Alcoholics Anonymous Support Group
In the United States, there are many support groups and programs available to individuals
seeking recovery from hardships, addictions, or struggles. Members with similar experiences
meet together to encourage, advise, and provide support for one another in order to promote
recovery. One well known support group, Alcoholics Anonymous, is a 12 step program a
support group that applies a series of 12 steps in order to achieve recovery. 12 step programs and
support groups can be spotted almost anywhere, including at churches, medical facilities, as well
as in schools. AA s 12 step program and 12Stone Care s non 12 step grief group are examples of
groups that provide services to individuals and offer support for those who are taking steps towards

The 12 step program gives the impression that it has the capability of helping clients through
alcohol abuse in its systematic, recovery focused, and empathetic approach. AA s 12 steps, from
having admitted we were powerless over alcohol... to having a spiritual awakening as a result of
these steps helps guide a person from alcoholism to sobriety (Alcoholics Anonymous [AA], 2001,
pp. 59 60). The steps are easy to follow checkpoints in the steps to sobriety, and because they are
verbalized at every meeting, they reinforce a recovery mindset from alcoholism. This recovery
approach emphasized in AA minimizes any particular focus on past struggles and magnifies
progress, and as a member described, the group s positivity and numerous success stories

Moon Landing Significance
July 20th, 1969 marks a day in which American ingenuity provided three men with the opportunity
to change history. At 10:56 on the evening of this historic date, one small step for Neil Armstrong,
represented one giant leap for mankind. Through small television screens, the world witnessed as
Neil Armstrong become the first individual to step foot on the moon.
Just four days prior to this remarkable event, over six hundred million people watched as three
brave men boarded the space module Columbia. On board were commander Neil Armstrong, lunar
module pilot Buzz Aldrin and command module pilot Michael Collins, all specified with the
mission of performing a manned lunar landing and returning to Earth. (Smithsonian) After blasting

accomplishment demonstrated that the United States was a powerful and capable country. It

With this inspiration and sense of initiative, the country as a whole flourished. The medical industry

Antipsychotic Therapy For Schizophrenia Essay
Medications used to treat symptoms of schizophrenia are often used when the individual is in a
state of psychosis. These medications are commonly antipsychotics, but can also include atypical
antipsychotics as well. Types of antipsychotics include phenothiazines, chlorpromazines,
butyrophenones, and thioxanthenes. Phenothiazines work by blocking dopaminereceptors in the
brain, preventing excess stimulation and thus reduced symptoms. All antipsychoticmedications do
help reduce positive symptoms, but none reduce negative symptoms. However, they also result in
many negative motor side effects. Atypical antipsychotics work by influencing serotonin receptors
and typically have less motor side effects than antipsychotics. Some of these medications include
clozapine, olanzapine, and risperdone.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Psychoanalytic therapists most involved in developing a treatment approach for this disorder are
Sullivan and Reichmann. They emphasize the trusting and open relationship the therapist and
patient should share. It introduces more methods of communication to the patient that are effective.
Also, recent therapy methods are reality based and more focused on the present than the past. There
is currently no evidence supporting this type of therapy. Social skills training focuses on enhancing
the individual s functioning and experiences in society. Thus the therapist may have the patient
practice how to interact with people when buying food, receiving medical care, etc. This treatment
may include positive reinforcement of skills that are useful for a fulfilling life in society as well as
modeling or role playing behaviors. This treatment is most effective in preventing the individual

Comparing Ashima And Ashoke s Culture
When Ashima and Ashoke move to America, they have two children, Nikhil and Sonia, who are
both quite immersed in American culture. While their children are like this, they try to hold onto
their own Indian cultural traditions. Because of that, the family can be divided many times. In
particular, Nikhil doesn t always respect his familys culturewhich proves to be very challenging for
Ashima and Ashoke because they remain attached to that culture when they move and want him to
grow up a certain way. Although the audience can not blame them for feeling this way, it is easy to
sympathize with Nikhil as well. Many children of immigrants embrace their heritage, but that is not
the case at all with Nikhil. He hides it from people, embarrassed by it, for most of the story. Of
course that upsets Ashima and Ashoke and makes them want to push their son into accepting the
Indian culture as his own.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

fascinated by Maxine s family. He also knows that his parents would not approve of this lifestyle,
which might make him want to engage in it even more. While he is with Maxine, he realizes that
there are different ways of life than that of his parents and he finds that he is connecting more and

Jean Piaget s Morality And Its Many Stages
In 1950, Lawrence Kohlberg graduated from the University of Chicago planning to go into clinical
psychology. However after reading some of the articles that Jean Piaget published on morality in
children and adolescents, Kohlberg begins researching morality and its many stages. Over the next
30 years he researches moralityand publishes two volumes critical to his work, leaving his legacy
in psychology. Lawrence Kohlberg was born to a wealthy Jewish family in Bronxville, NY in
1927. At a young age he was sent to Phillips Academy, a boarding school, in Andover, MA, it was
here that he was known more for his mischief than his academics. He threw himself in to the Zionist

In his dissertation he talks about six stages of moral development, which was in contrast with
Piaget s two stages (Walsh 37). After his dissertation was published, his career as a professor
took off. He started as an assistant professor of psychology at Yale University in 1959 ( Find the
Right Therapist ). Kohlberg then went back to the University of Chicago as an assistant
professor, however after a few years he was promoted to an associate professor and director of
the Child Psychology Training Program ( Find the Right Therapist ). Through his work with
children he believed that they made their own moral decisions (Walsh 37). In his thirties, Kohlberg
had received a field of inquiry, making him a hot commodity (Walsh 38). In 1968 till his death in
1987, he came to the Harvard Graduate School of Education, teaching education and social
psychology (Walsh 37). While teaching at Harvard Kohlberg did something unusual, he brought his
critics to his class to have an intellectual discussion (Walsh 37).
Even though he was busy pursuing his career, he still found time for his pursue a personal life. In
1955 he married Lucy Stigberg, which is around the time that he was working on his dissertation
and obtaining his PhD. They had two sons and by the time that he got the job at Harvard, he was
divorced. He later meets his fiancГ©, Ann Higgins, a former instructor at Harvard.

The Intake Of Synthetic Sugar
Once ingested, sugar causes blood glucose levels to frequently spike and drop. When blood sugar
is unstable, it can lead to headaches, fatigue, and mood swings. Low blood sugar triggers the
release of hormones such as adrenaline, epinephrine, and cortisol, inducing stress. Furthermore,
sugar elicits the release of dopamine, causing it to be somewhat of an addictive substance.
Adrenaline and epinephrine are chemicals which allow the sinoatrial node to fire more frequently,
preparing the body for intense physical activity. Sugar absorption therefore engenders irregular
firing of the sinoatrial node, even when the body is not preparing for physical activity. A normal
resting heart rateranges between 60 100 bpm, but can vary still depending on many factors,
including levels of activity and athleticism. Active heart rate is even more variable, greatly
depending on exercise intensity. Generally speaking, however, a healthy target range is below 220
bpm.
The purpose of this experiment is to find out how the intake of synthetic sugar may have an effect
on both resting and active heart rate. This should allow an understanding of the effects sugar can
have on the body as well as providing insight concerning the negativity towards excessive portions
of this particular substance.
Hypothesis If one consumes a relatively high amount of sugar, then the average rate at which the
heart beats, both in resting and active circumstances, would increase because sugar causes blood
glucose

Differences In The Outsiders Movie And Novel
The Outsiders movie and novel are both great. After finishing both I found out they are very
similar , but they also have some differences. The movie and novel both share similarities that
are very alike. For example , both have the same characters , the church burns down , and the
greasers and Socs both hate each other. They might have these major similarities ,but they have a
lot of very minor differences. In The Outsiders there are a lot of similarities . For example , the
church that Ponyboy and Johnny stayed in burnt down . The story takes place in Tulsa Oklahoma .
They might be similar , but they have some differences as well . A major differenceis that in the

The Forest Of The Rumpi Hills
The forests of the Rumpi Hills also contain what is commonly referred to as the Rumpi Hills
Forest Reserve or previously known as the Rumpi Hills Native Administration Forest Reserve
created by Forestry Ordinance No 38 of 1937 and approved by Forestry Ordinance No 16756/79
of 2nd July, 1941 (SWPA, 2016). The North Boundary is the road from Lipenja Mukete through
Ikoi and Dikome Ngolo to Madie; the South Boundary goes through Nalende, Monyange, Itoki and
Ilor to Moko. Whereas the East Boundary, goes through Dikome Balue, Mofako, Itende to Bisoro;
the West Boundary goes through Dibonda and Ndian and Ituka to Lipenja which is also the
starting point of the reserve (SWPA, 2016). These boundaries give the Rumpi Hills ForestReserve a
characteristic inverted letter C shape and structure, see figure 7.
The reserve is composed of land belonging to the Ngolo, Bima and Balue tribes, the first two
form part of the North West while the latter, forms part of the South East area. Most of the
villages are on top of the hills, so that, a more or less vertical climb of anything up to 400 meters
has to be faced before reaching a village or settlement.
The proposal that, part of the Rumpi Hills forests should be made a forest reserve was first made
by Mr Rosevear in a memorandum written in 1933 on the potential forest reserves of the Kumba
Division, Cameroon (SWPA, 2016). The actual preliminary survey of the area was done by Mr F.S
Collier in 1937, after a tour round the approximate

compared to GSM. Reliance Infocomm has tied up with Kyocera for supply of high end PDAs.
Reliance has procured around 50,000 PDAs. The PDAs will be focused for high end users
whereby one can use it both as a phone as well as a PDA. The phone will be used for making
voice calls whereas PDA will be utilized to provide wireless data access for web clippings,

Heaven s Gate and the Infingement of Religious Freedom

freedom do we want? The United States Constitution guarantees religious freedom to all citizens.
However, since the establishment of this freedom, there have been continuous debates and
modifications. Despite this independence, there have been times when the government felt it
necessary to infringe upon religious freedom for various reasons. The question is, at which point
it is okay for the government to become involved in religious affairs for the sake of safety and
protection? The Heaven s Gate religious group is one group in particular that has aroused much

While it may seem contrary to their practices, Heaven s Gate believers do not promote suicide in
its normal connotation. Rather, they consider suicide transitioning into the next level when it is
being offered. Prior to the mass suicide of 1997, Heaven s Gate members thought that a UFO
would pick them up from Earth and bring them to the next level. After years of waiting for the
UFO s coming and many false alarms, many Heaven s Gate followers felt called to abandon
their vehicles or bodies, in hopes of freeing the spirit into the next level as was exemplified in
the ritual suicide in 1997. Additionally, there was also a large communal component to Heaven s
Gate. Members lived together and traveled together and members all had a platonic partner. With
this platonic partner, Friction was practiced. Friction was where two individuals would share
deep, personal issues that were meant to be uncomfortable so the two individuals could truly
bond on a deeper level. Additionally, there was a group of individuals within Heaven s Gate who
were called the Away Team and held the position of leading members in The Process. The Process,
one of the most central principles of Heaven s Gate, is the journey to renounce all aforementioned
personal attachments to the Earth so that one may be prepared to exit this level, such as the
abstinence from sex and name changes.

Theme Of Materialism In Death Of A Salesman
Distracted from Success
In a competition filled environment, the ability to thrive is directly related to achieving more than
the competition. Through the medium of money, overzealous comparisons can be formed about the
success of others. Defining success tangibly as possessing a certain amount of currency leaves out
the emotional aspect of a career. Having a reason to work other than sheer sustenance allows for
any job to be valued rather than dreaded. The understanding that money and materialism are second
to personal fulfillment prevents the possibility of disenchantment with the necessity of labor. The
loss of focus on personal fulfillment occurs because of the strength of materialistic desires have the
ability to lead one astray. In Death of a Salesman, materialism continually pressures members of the
Loman family, creating enough strife to never allow them to reach their respective visions of
success. As the matriarch of the Loman household, Linda constantly aims to develop a sense of
love and peace in the family. Despite her efforts, she can not change the personalities of her
husband or her children, leading to a significant amount of conflicts. Linda aims to foster
understanding in the quote I think if he finds himself, then you ll both be happier and not fight any
more, (I.15). She tries to bring Willy and Biff together as father and soneven though they both see
success in two very different ways. Linda chooses to accept the disappointment of Biff and

Benefits Of Running Convection Allowing Models ( Cams )...
1.Introduction
The benefits of running convection allowing models (CAMs) for convective storm prediction
have been demonstrated in a variety of contexts over the past decade (e.g., Done et al. 2004;
Kain et al. 2006; Lean et al. 2008; Kain et al. 2008; Clark et al. 2009; Coniglio et al. 2010;
Schwartz et al. 2009; Sobash et al. 2011; Clark et al. 2010, Clark et al. 2011; Weisman et al. 2013).
As these studies show, much of the value of running CAM forecasts comes from their ability to
provide explicit information about convective properties such as initiation, mode, motion,
longevity, and intensity. To effectively use CAM output in operational forecastingsettings, novel
forms of guidance are needed to summarize these forecast attributes in ways that can be easily
understood by forecasters and other end users.
Toward this end, Sobash et al. (2011), hereafter S11, documented a proof of concept for
producing a next day (12 UTC to 12 UTC) severe convective weather guidance product using
output from deterministic CAM forecasts initialized at 00 UTC. In S11, locations where intense
simulated convective storms occurred were identified using updraft helicity (UH; Kain et al.
2008), a diagnostic designed to detect mid level mesocyclones in CAM output. A threshold was
applied to the UH field to identify severe simulated convection and produce a field of surrogate
severe weather reports, which were then spatially smoothed to create a surrogate severe
probabilistic forecast

Motivation For European Exploration In The 15th And 16th...
Exploration Essay European exploration wasn t only entirely based of one motivation in the 15th
and 16th century. Although many voyages of discovery were started in search of wealth, religion
was also a big reason for exploring other continents. Religion wasn t the main motivation for
European exploration in the 15th and 16th century. Instead, the main motivation was economic
motives, which was closely followed by religion, and to a lesser extent was technological
developments. The main motivation of European exploration was economic motives. People were
beginning to become more interested in traveling by sea to reach Asia and Africa and all their
riches(Duiker,494). The spice trade was what linked Europeto Asia, and the gold trade linked
Europe to Africa. Furthermore, in the 15th and 16th centuries, as the economy and purchasing
power of Europe developed and increased, the spice demand grew at a steady rate(Arnold,12).
Therefore, spices were one of the few things that made overseas trade possible. Europe did not
have very much gold to begin with, so ultimately the gold mines that they did possess were

The Invention Of The Automobile Industry Essay
Cars are definitely the biggest invention on history changing the way humans transport. In the
past, there were no vehicles and therefore people used to walk while only the few lucky had the
privilege of enjoying a horse ride. There were also horse wagons which were made in order to
increase the number of persons who could be carried (Lynn, 54). However, in the year 1907, Henry
Fordinvented the first car model which was referred to as T model, that allowed everyone to own a
automobile. In this paper I will argue the importance of cars through history and why cars are the
biggest history humans have created using too expecific examples from history. The T model
reinvented the automobile industry making automobiles accessible for every social class. And
almost a century after Toyota car company reinvented again the automobile industry creating the
first hybrid named Prius. The importance of automobiles in history is obvious and this two
creation will teach you why. In the year 1903, there was the formation of a Association of Licensed
Automobile Manufacturers (ALAM) which was aimed at ensuring that only the licensed dealers
could be allowed to produce and sell vehicles (Grimm, 51). There was however rule and regulations
that they had to follow and failure to adhere would have led to being overthrown from the business.
During the invention of T model, the government was in the process of eliminating monopolies
which had taken the better part of the economy. These included

We were on the bus on September 9, 2017, in Brecksville, Ohio. As the bus was pulling up to the
stadium it was dead on the bus as we were all focusing in on one of the hardest games of the
season. As we were getting off the bus we felt the intense heat of the sun beating down on our
bodies and the sweat was slowly foaming on our faces. During warm up we were all being very
serious and not messing around, trying to prepare for the gamewe were about to play. As the time of
the warm up was slowly coming to an end we already had sweat dripping down our damp faces.
As we gathered in the huddle we all had a very serious look on our face all looking at each other
and our coach waiting patiently to see what he had to say before the game started. Before we
went on the field our coach said, All of the hard work, practice, and dedication isn t for nothing it

huddled up and said as a team Tigers on three, 1...2...3 TIGERS Then we slowly ran onto the
field as both fans were cheering for their team. As we were on the field in our formation it was
dead silent, so quiet you could hear your own heart beating faster and faster as the referee was
getting ready to blow the whistle to indicate the start of the game. During the first 5 minutes of the

Internet Addiction Disorder The technology is growing strong every day. More and more people
start to use smartphone, computer, etc. In addition, the main purpose of using smartphone,
computer or any technology devices is to gain access to the Internet. Consequently, people started to
be addictive to the Internet. Internet Addiction Disorder (IAD) is the term to describe the massive
using of Internet. IAD is similar with other addiction disorders such as gambling, sex, gaming, or
shopping. People who develop problems with their Internet use may start off using the Internet on
a casual basis and then progress to using the technology in dysfunctional ways. Many people
believe that spending large amounts of time on the Internet is a core feature of the disorder
(Minddisorder.com). In fact, the way that Internet is being used in daily routines is the most
important factor. Internet Addition Disorder or IAD was first noticed by Kimberly Young, PhD,
an assistant professor of psychology at the University of Pittsburgh, Bradford. According to the
article Trap in the Web , in 1994, Young did a survey on 500 Internet users about their on line
habits. Young separated participants into two groups: dependent and non dependent. She gave
seven questions about using the Internet. If a participant answered yes to three or more questions,
he or she will be classified as a dependent. According to the survey, dependents

Sonny s Blues
Sonny s Blues
A captivating tale of a relationship between two troubling brothers in Harlem, Sonny s Blues is
told from the perception of Sonny s brother, whose name is never mentioned. Baldwin s choice of
Sonny s brother as a narrator is what makes Sonny s Blues significant in terms of illustrating the
relationship and emotional complications of Sonny and his brother. The significance of Sonny s
Blues lies in the way Sonny s brother describes their relationship based on what he observes, hears,
and feels, and how he struggles trying to understand Sonny through the course of the story. This is a
story of how two African Americans brothers take their own path through life as they struggle to
find meaning in their lives. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Their father spent many years struggling to support a family in an overtly racist Northern urban
community. Sonny, by contrast, is a romantic artist who is not afraid of taking risks to pursue
the things he desires. His passion for music makes him impatient with everything else. He drops
out of school; however, he does try to stay away from danger. Sonny does want to live a
respectable life without corruption. He does several things to try to escape this corruption; he
tries to escape by joining the military, but fails. He tries to escape by using illicit drugs and fails.
When life seems to take a toll on Sonny he immerses himself in his music. He realizes that his
problems are real and that he can t truly escape them. Music becomes his life as he plays to
transform his pain and suffering into something beautiful depicted in his jazz and blues music.
Perhaps there is no way that we can absolutely stay out of danger, like Sonny s father said, there is
no safe place for anyone (Baldwin 95). Sonny s music offers an outlet for expressing the darkness
within him while giving his life meaning.
In the pivotal scene of Sonny s Blues, the narrator agrees to go with Sonny to the jazz nightclub.

In 1869, Dmitri Mendeleev and Lother Meyer separately made the periodic table, which showed
that the properties of chemicals recur periodically. However, both periodic tables sorted the
elements in order of increasing atomic mass. This, along with the discovery of the noble gasses
made several errors in repeating periods, one being argon and calcium. In 1913, H. G. J. Moseley
ordered these elements in increasing atomic number, fixing the error. In the periodic table,
horizontal lines of elements are called periods and vertical lines are called groups. Elements in the

How Labor Laws And The Work Of The Individual And How They...
In the late 1800 s, labor laws and ethics were something that nobody thought of and did much
about. It wasn t until the reign of Pope Leo XIII and his idea of a revolutionary change that came
in the doctrine of the Rerum Novarum, which focused on the laboring class. In first world
countries, they have labor laws to help benefit the worker, but those first world companies take
advantage of third worldcountries, and impoverished individuals. The focus of this paper will
focus on how labor laws and the work of the individual and how they have a major effect on poverty
. In first world countries, labor laws were created to protect and benefit the labor workers and to
enable them to profit from their labor. According to Economic Justice for All, employment is a
basic right, a right which protects the freedom of all to participate in the economic life of society.
This quote is true for all individuals of all backgrounds, and not just those in first world countries.
Many individuals in the world do not benefit from the property that makes profits and so they must
endure employment to elude poverty, and to support themselves and their families. With the ethics
of Economic Justice for All, in the United Statesalone, there are 8 million American s that are
unemployed, cannot find jobs, and are living under the poverty line, which equivalates to 7 percent
of the labor force in America. The article goes on to say that the burdens of unemployment compel

Virtual Machine Intrusions
The technique can detect DDoS attacks as well and blocking complete botnets (Amna Riaz
2017). However, NIDS is going to face issues processing all packets in large virtual network and it
may fail to detect attacks in time as SNORT is single threaded.
Another solution that has been studied is Virtual Machine Introspection (VMI) based technique
(Amna Riaz 2017). Virtual machine introspection (VMI) is the main idea behind out of box
intrusion detection. VMI is a technique of inspecting VM state by moving the inspection module
outside of the VM. The software running inside the guest system is analysed externally to detect
any intrusion. One advantage of this technique is that malware detection continues to work
unaffectedly even in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, on the brighter side a NIDS has high attack resistance ().
Being SNORT as a single threaded, processing huge logs for the cloud computing is an issue so
multi thread IDS is essential in the cloud computing (Parag K. Shelke 2012, p. 68). SURICATA is
multi threaded and could resolve the performance issues and packet loss we face with the single
thread IDS.
Virtualization has made network management more challenging, and it s more and more difficult to
consistently apply firewall and content filtering policies. When you add in complexities such as
securing BYOD devices, the security problem is intensified. Software defined networking (SDN)
is next evolving technology for the cloud computing. SDN is an umbrella term covering several
kinds of network technology aimed at making the network as agile and flexible as the virtualized
server and storage infrastructure of the modern data center. The SDN Controller provides a
centralized system to manage the network. The network administrators are empowered by SDN to
easily access and manage individual flows by facilitating them to implement monitoring
applications, i.e., firewall and IDS. Furthermore, scalable monitoring and dynamic reconfiguration
requirements of the network in cloud makes SDN a perfect choice (Amna Riaz 2017).
Using OSSEC and BRO as IDS tools can also help to resolve analysing and integrating the log files

The Use of Capital Punishment to Serve Justice, and its Social Implications
What is Capital Punishment?
Capital punishment is a practice in which prisoners are executed in accordance with judicial
practice when they are convicted of committing what is known as a capital crime. Capital crimes are
crimes deemed so heinous that they should be punishable by death. People may also use the term

Symbolism In Frankenstein
The lessons the monster learns from the De Lacey family play an important role in the monsters
coming of age in Mary Shelley s novel Frankenstein. The De Lacey family is a poor family that
the creature has been watching from the outside for some time now. Eventually, he wants to make
an appearance to the family and show himself to get help. The perfect time is to knock at the door
when nobody is home, except for the old man. All the monster wants is somebody who will accept
him and care for him. As shown in Frankenstein, there is a strong symbolism in which the old man
is blind and can t see the monster. Yet, he accepts him for who he is, while the rest of the De
Lacey family harm him and beat him. Symbolism is also shown with the De Lacey family and their
cottage. It has a strong representation with the Garden of Edenas the cottage acts as the garden. The
novel Frankenstein has many different symbolic elements to it while being connected to the De
Lacey s, including the symbolism of the blindman, the way the monster reacts as the humans react
to his looks, and the comparison to the Garden of Eden. As shown throughout several chapters of
Frankenstein, the old man gives the monster affection and shows that he ll care for him. He was
never able to judge the monster by the way he looked, but only on the way he acted. As the old
man said, I am blind and cannot judge of your countenance, but there is something in your words
which persuades me that you are sincere. I am poor

Edwin H. Land Invented The Polaroid Camera

Edwin H. Land invented the Polaroid camera and developed many uses for polarized glass.
American inventor Edwin H. Land was the driving force behind the Polaroid Corporation s
engineering and marketing successes. He founded the company to manufacture his inventions, such
as polarized windows and sunglasses, and he also produced revolutionary optics for the military
during World War II (1939 45). It was his development of the instant camera, however, that made his

They were married in 1929, and Land returned to Harvard that same year. This time the university
provided him with a laboratory to conduct his research.
Develops commercial method to polarize light
It had been known since the eighteenth century that certain kinds of crystals (clear colorless
glasses of superior quality) could affect the direction of light waves. In his effort to develop a
method for polarizing light, Land was searching for a crystal that could not only reduce glare but
was stable and economical enough to be produced commercially. He conceived the idea of two
plates that would absorb the light waves that were not wanted and transmit those that were. He
then succeeded in aligning millions of microscopic iodine crystals in one direction, thus creating
the first polarizer. Land presented a paper on his discovery at a physics colloquium (meeting) at
Harvard in February 1932. In June, he left the university, one semester short of a degree, and never
returned.
Invents Polaroid
With a Harvard graduate student named George Wheelwright, who had been one of his teachers,
Land formed Land Wheelwright Laboratories, Inc., in June 1932. The two men worked on
developing methods of manufacturing polarized sheets made of crystals trapped in nitrocellulose
(any of several nitric acid esters of cellulose used for making explosives, plastics, and varnishes).
On November 30, 1934, the camera company Eastman Kodak gave Land Wheelwright an order for

Examples Of Foreshadowing In Tangerine
Tangerine is a book full of interesting details and ideas. The protagonist, Paul, attempts to
remember what happened to his eyesight, and why he must wear thick glasses. After moving to

constantly overshadowed by the star of his family, Erik. Paul thinks his brother Erik is a jerk,
but everybody else sees him as the great football star. In Paul s mind, he is the person that is not

of all, Bloor uses suspense to display fear, as in page 168, I could see Erik lurking behind me, in
the shadows of the imaginary clock. Erik is like a shadow behind Paul, always ready to jump him.

Sportsmanlike Behavior
Throughout my time as a high school student, I have learned the importance of sportsmanlike
behavior. While participating in athletic and academic programs, I have found that good
sportsmanship is what makes a good program and a good student athlete. It requires you to not
only look out for yourself but also to look out for the well being of others, both on your team and
on the opposing team. It is important to possess positive sportsmanship because you learn to care
for and help others regardless of differences, which is a quality that is beneficial in an academic
setting, athletics, and life as a whole.
During my high school career, I have demonstrated good sportsmanship while participating in
various extracurricular activities, such as the National Honor Society, diversity club, rocket
cheerleading, track, competitive cheer, and sideline cheer. The activity that allowed me to show my
extreme dedication and sportsmanship the most, was volunteering for rocket cheer. While

between them, particularly with Freud; their followers have continued these differences. One of
the point of disagreement is Jung s opinion that Freud s concept of the libido is too concerned

On the other hand, Freud and Adler had difficulty in refusing the development of both humanity
and the individual and were rigid in their beliefs.
Jung believed that psychic energy had its foundation in the tension of opposites; this energy could

neurosis, with the first focusing the object and the second emphasized the subject, are viewed as
manifestations of an oppositional type. The introverted personality type focuses on the subject
while the extraversion type focuses on the object; however, these two types are rare observed in
their unadulterated state. Moreover, the dynamics of a relationship between individuals who retain
contradictory personality types was examined by Jung. Alternatively, to contrast with the concepts
of Freud and Adler, they describe neuroses as sometimes allocating useful adaptive functions.

created to represent his soul rousing I Have A Dream speech. The memorialization of MLK and
this event s significance and impact on history was exquisitely executed, in my opinion. If you had
to take the responsibility of memorializing someone or a noteworthy event, how would you go
about doing so? Creating a monument takes time, hard work, and good reasoning. There are many
factors to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another example of a muddled purpose lies within The Maine Lobsterman. Maine is known for
its fishermen, so H. Elroy Johnson, a resident of Maine who trapped lobsters for a living, was
chosen to be memorialized. As his statue was moved from place to place its purpose was lost
because he truly represented his home state of Maine only. When developing a monument, its
purpose is at the root of its success and should be timeless and/or clear to those who will view it in
the general public.
Secondly, placement is a key factor in creating a monument of someone or an event. As described
in Source E, placement could offend the surrounding population. In this source, the Holocaust
Museum is located in The Mall in Washington, DC and it offended both Jewish and non Jewish
communities. This is primarily due to the fact that a museum dedicated to the memory of the
Holocaust would be built in the United States, who did little to stop the Holocaust from
occurring, or... ...open our shores to the few survivors... . The United States didn t act on what it
stands for, equality and freedom, and so to have it there seemed to be a sign of disrespect to
many. On the other hand, supporters believed, such as George Will, a political columnist, that, No
other nation has a broader, graver responsibility in the world...No other nation needs citizens
trained to look like in the face. Due to what the United States stands for, he says this because by

The American Of New Canada
Welcome good friend to the brand new state of New Canada! What once was a corrupt country
north of the center of the world (U.S.) is now the 55th state to the American Empire. The year is
2050, and almost five years since the ending of the Third World War. Five years post war and
civilization is still in a stateof recovery, which is why we bring Americans a piece of the past and a
bit of familiarity with the grand opening of New Canadas capitol building. We do this to honor the
fallen and help Canadians assimilate into American Culture.
New Canada is a shell of what it used to be before its great depression and eventually WWIII. The
Canadian depression started in 2033 with what historians are now calling The Great Sellout.
Historians have no idea what initially caused it, but the act was that all businesses in Canada
relocated and outsourced to foreign countries leaving millions of Canadian citizens unemployed
and Canada without industry. Canada suffered the largest deficit ever to be had by a country at
the time and the record only grew higher every year after. In its desperation, Canada sold itself out
to China in 2039 in an attempt to improve the lives of its citizens. China took over what used to be
car factories and turned them into weapon manufacturers. Only one year after the colonization of
Canada, China invaded the U.S.
WWIII lasted for five years, ending in 2055 with the U.S. now having control over China and part
of Russia, Ukraine, and Japan. These four

Examples Of Actor Network Theory
The Actor Network Theory (ANT) is a social theory which treats objects as part of the overall
social network. This approach places emphasis on the capacity of nonhuman objects to interact
and even participate in various social networks and systems. The following information will
explain Actor Network Theory, provide examples of how it is believed to work, and explore the
relationship this theory has in regards to power and politics.
The Actor Network Theory Explained
This theory was developed by scholars Bruno Latour and Michel Callon. Sociologist John Law also
contributed to the theory. Humans and nonhumans are obviously not the same, but they can be
studied and observed in similar ways and can both be seen as actors influencing their environment.
Anything that makes a difference in the overall scheme of things can be considered an actor, or an
actant. Even though it is technically called a theory, ANT usually doesn t explain how or even why
a network emerges into the form that it does. Instead, ANT explores the intricate ties in a network.
In many ways it is more of a method than a theory. It describes how activities and habits can sustain
themselves while interacting with one another and working toward a common goal. Although ANT
is usually associated with science and technology, it has expanded into the field of sociology as ...

When it comes to politics and the power associated with it, the first thing that must be noted is that
much more is involved than the people, or in this case, the politicians. Ideas and concepts play a
crucial role in the political process. Therefore, just like the previous example of the hospital, there
are lots of moving parts, hence, actors, involved in politics. There are people, places, and
communication mediums involved. Even getting a message out depends on a channel or venue
through which that message must travel to reach the

Controlling consists of verifying whether everything occurs in conformities with the plans adopted,

Financial Controls: Financial controls focus on income, expenditures, cash flow, asset mix, and
acquisition of funds and investment of funds.
Informational control: This control helps managers and others get the information they need to
make lamely and intelligent decisions. It focuses on collection processing, storage, security and
dissemination of data at the right time and place, in suitable quantity quality and format.
Operational Controls: This monitors production, marketing finance, and staff process; inventory
control; effectiveness of planning abilities and method used to meet customer needs.
Different Internal Controls:
Generally speaking there are two types: preventive and detective controls. Both types of controls are
essential to an effective internal control system. From a quality standpoint, preventive controls are
essential because they are proactive and emphasize quality. However, detective controls play a
critical role by providing evidence that the preventive controls are functioning as intended:
Preventive Controls are designed to discourage errors or irregularities

Thomas Polk s County And The Founding And Progress Of...
Thomas Polk in Mecklenburg County, 1750 1800
With over 250 years of history as a county in North Carolina, Mecklenburg County has an extensive
and fascinating story to tell. Established in 1762, the county that I call home has been a part of this
country since before we gained our independence from Great Britain. When most Americans hear
the surname Polk, they automatically think of our nation s eleventh president, James Knox Polk. A
fraction of those people are able to tell you that James was born in Mecklenburg County and spent
the first ten or so years of his life in present day Pineville. Very few, however, could tell you of
James great uncle, Thomas Polk, who was crucial to the founding and progress of Mecklenburg
County.
Through my research, I have found numerous Polks who were either born in, raised in, or simply
moved to Mecklenburg County. Some of these people had a minor impact on the area, but
Thomas Polk influenced Mecklenburg County in a much bigger way. Polk had numerous
accolades. Among them are Revolutionary War soldier, local political leader, prominent land
surveyor, and government executive. In this paper, the time period is restricted from circa 1750
until circa 1800. These approximate dates correspond to the arrival of Thomas Polk to
Mecklenburg County, and to his death. Nearly every aspect of this era of Mecklenburg County
history has been touched in some aspect by Thomas Polk.
The journey of the Polk family to the North Carolina Piedmont region is

The Hobart Shakespeareans Essay
Rafe Esquith is more than an elementary school teacher; he is a role model to hundreds of students,
teachers, and other individuals who have the honor of learning about him. Most teachers follow
their school responsibilities to educate their children. Rafe not only educates them, but makes sure
that he gets to know each child, enhances their self esteem, and empowers them. Rafe also works
the weekends just for his students who come to learn more. Rafe demonstrates various skills that
are utilized in the social work field throughout the movie The Hobart Shakespeareans.
A few social work skills that Rafe has portrayed in the film are therapeutic alliance, listening, use of
self, and understanding the children to where they are at developmentally. The use of these skills
are highly portrayed through the use of play. Rafe introduced dramatic play ... Show more content

lifestyle these children are growing up in and becomes a great support system for them. This is
greatly shown as his former students created a foundation for his classroom to continue with his
teaching methods. The students in Room 56 also empower and encourage each other through their
work and play. As portrayed in the film, when they were reading Hamlet and rehearsing their lines,
the entire class would clap and praise the reader on a job well done. The classroom creates a safe
environment for the children to be themselves and to work together to establish teamwork. At the
end of the school year, the students work together to present the play to an audience right in their

The Animal Of Animal Welfare Act
Animal Welfare Act
Casandra Sasaki
Eagle High School
Abstract
The Animal Welfare Act, passed in 1966, establishes guidelines for the protection of animals used
for research and other purposes, defines the requirements for facilities housing those animals, and
outlines the procedures for inspection and maintenance of those facilities by government entities.
This paper explores the pros and cons of the act as well as the effectiveness of the guidelines and
their enforcement. Finally, it makes several recommendations based on the evidence presented.
Policy Identification and Explanation
The policy that I am researching is: United States Code: CHAPTER 54 TRANSPORTATION,
SALE, AND HANDLING OF CERTAIN ANIMALS. (Animal Welfare Act, 2015). This is the
Animal Welfare Act. Because the Animal Welfare act has so many parts to it, the section I am
focusing on is: В§2143: Standards and certification process for humane handling, care, treatment,
and transportation of animals (Animal Welfare Act, 2015).
This specific section is focusing on animal testing in research facilities across the United States. It
tells the minimum requirements for animals housing, treatment, care, sanitation, etc. This section
also states the requirements for procedures done on animals. Section three, part B states: the
principal investigator considers alternatives to any procedure likely to produce pain or distress
(Animal Welfare Act, 2015). The Animal Welfare Act is a federal law,

These medications are commonly antipsychotics, but can also include atypical antipsychotics as well. Types of antipsychotics include phenothiazines, chlorpromazines, butyrophenones, and thioxanthenes. Phenothiazines work by blocking dopaminereceptors in the brain, preventing excess stimulation and thus reduced symptoms. All antipsychoticmedications do help reduce positive symptoms, but none reduce negative symptoms. However, they also result in many negative motor side effects. Atypical antipsychotics work by influencing serotonin receptors and typically have less motor side effects than antipsychotics. While their children are like this, they try to hold onto their own Indian cultural traditions. Because of that, the family can be divided many times. In particular, Nikhil doesn t always respect his familys culturewhich proves to be very challenging for Ashima and Ashoke because they remain attached to that culture when they move and want him to grow up a certain way. Although the audience can not blame them for feeling this way, it is easy to sympathize with Nikhil as well. Many children of immigrants embrace their heritage, but that is not the case at all with Nikhil. He hides it from people, embarrassed by it, for most of the story. • 7. The Intake Of Synthetic Sugar Once ingested, sugar causes blood glucose levels to frequently spike and drop. When blood sugar is unstable, it can lead to headaches, fatigue, and mood swings. Low blood sugar triggers the release of hormones such as adrenaline, epinephrine, and cortisol, inducing stress. Furthermore, sugar elicits the release of dopamine, causing it to be somewhat of an addictive substance. Adrenaline and epinephrine are chemicals which allow the sinoatrial node to fire more frequently, preparing the body for intense physical activity. Sugar absorption therefore engenders irregular firing of the sinoatrial node, even when the body is not preparing for physical activity. A normal resting heart rateranges between 60 100 bpm, but can vary still depending on many factors, including levels of activity and athleticism. Active heart rate is even more variable, greatly depending on exercise intensity. Generally speaking, however, a healthy target range is below 220 bpm. The purpose of this experiment is to find out how the intake of synthetic sugar may have an effect on both resting and active heart rate. This should allow an understanding of the effects sugar can have on the body as well as providing insight concerning the negativity towards excessive portions of this particular substance. Hypothesis If one consumes a relatively high amount of sugar, then the average rate at which the heart beats, both in resting and active circumstances, would increase because sugar causes blood glucose ... After years of waiting for the UFO s coming and many false alarms, many Heaven s Gate followers felt called to abandon their vehicles or bodies, in hopes of freeing the spirit into the next level as was exemplified in the ritual suicide in 1997. Through the medium of money, overzealous comparisons can be formed about the success of others. Having a reason to work other than sheer sustenance allows for any job to be valued rather than dreaded. Benefits Of Running Convection Allowing Models ( Cams )... 1.Introduction The benefits of running convection allowing models (CAMs) for convective storm prediction have been demonstrated in a variety of contexts over the past decade (e.g., Done et al. 2004; Kain et al. 2006; Lean et al. 2008; Kain et al. 2008; Clark et al. 2009; Coniglio et al. 2010; Schwartz et al. 2009; Sobash et al. 2011; Clark et al. 2010, Clark et al. 2011; Weisman et al. 2013). As these studies show, much of the value of running CAM forecasts comes from their ability to provide explicit information about convective properties such as initiation, mode, motion, longevity, and intensity. To effectively use CAM output in operational forecastingsettings, novel forms of guidance are needed to summarize these forecast attributes in ways that can be easily understood by forecasters and other end users. Toward this end, Sobash et al. (2011), hereafter S11, documented a proof of concept for producing a next day (12 UTC to 12 UTC) severe convective weather guidance product using output from deterministic CAM forecasts initialized at 00 UTC. In S11, locations where intense simulated convective storms occurred were identified using updraft helicity (UH; Kain et al. 2008), a diagnostic designed to detect mid level mesocyclones in CAM output. A threshold was applied to the UH field to identify severe simulated convection and produce a field of surrogate severe weather reports, which were then spatially smoothed to create a surrogate severe probabilistic forecast ... Although many voyages of discovery were started in search of wealth, religion was also a big reason for exploring other continents. Religion wasn t the main motivation for European exploration in the 15th and 16th century. Instead, the main motivation was economic motives, which was closely followed by religion, and to a lesser extent was technological developments. The main motivation of European exploration was economic motives. People were beginning to become more interested in traveling by sea to reach Asia and Africa and all their riches(Duiker,494). The spice trade was what linked Europeto Asia, and the gold trade linked Europe to Africa. Furthermore, in the 15th and 16th centuries, as the economy and purchasing power of Europe developed and increased, the spice demand grew at a steady rate(Arnold,12). Therefore, spices were one of the few things that made overseas trade possible. Europe did not have very much gold to begin with, so ultimately the gold mines that they did possess were emptied. After 1400, Europe started trading with the areas that produced gold, increasing their amount of gold. Gold was very important to Europe, because not only was it used for decorations, but also their currency. In 1500, Portugalwas controlling the flow of gold to Europe, making Portugal much wealthier(Buckler,500). Eventually, slaves were included in the gold ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, in the year 1907, Henry Fordinvented the first car model which was referred to as T model, that allowed everyone to own a automobile. In this paper I will argue the importance of cars through history and why cars are the biggest history humans have created using too expecific examples from history. Periodic Law Lab Periodic Table and Periodic Law Experiment Date: March 16, 2017 20170004 к°•лЏ™н „ Co worker: л°•м •м–ё Introduction In 1869, Dmitri Mendeleev and Lother Meyer separately made the periodic table, which showed that the properties of chemicals recur periodically. However, both periodic tables sorted the elements in order of increasing atomic mass. This, along with the discovery of the noble gasses made several errors in repeating periods, one being argon and calcium. In 1913, H. G. J. Moseley ordered these elements in increasing atomic number, fixing the error. In the periodic table, horizontal lines of elements are called periods and vertical lines are called groups. Elements in the same group tend to have repeating properties. Three of these main ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The whole process took about nine seconds. It wasn t until the reign of Pope Leo XIII and his idea of a revolutionary change that came in the doctrine of the Rerum Novarum, which focused on the laboring class. In first world countries, they have labor laws to help benefit the worker, but those first world companies take advantage of third worldcountries, and impoverished individuals. The focus of this paper will focus on how labor laws and the work of the individual and how they have a major effect on poverty . In first world countries, labor laws were created to protect and benefit the labor workers and to enable them to profit from their labor. According to Economic Justice for All, employment is a basic right, a right which protects the freedom of all to participate in the economic life of society. This quote is true for all individuals of all backgrounds, and not just those in first world countries. Many individuals in the world do not benefit from the property that makes profits and so they must endure employment to elude poverty, and to support themselves and their families. With the ethics of Economic Justice for All, in the United Statesalone, there are 8 million American s that are unemployed, cannot find jobs, and are living under the poverty line, which equivalates to 7 percent of the labor force in America. Another solution that has been studied is Virtual Machine Introspection (VMI) based technique (Amna Riaz 2017). Virtual machine introspection (VMI) is the main idea behind out of box intrusion detection. VMI is a technique of inspecting VM state by moving the inspection module outside of the VM. SURICATA is multi threaded and could resolve the performance issues and packet loss we face with the single thread IDS. Virtualization has made network management more challenging, and it s more and more difficult to consistently apply firewall and content filtering policies. When you add in complexities such as securing BYOD devices, the security problem is intensified. Software defined networking (SDN) is next evolving technology for the cloud computing. SDN is an umbrella term covering several kinds of network technology aimed at making the network as agile and flexible as the virtualized server and storage infrastructure of the modern data center. The SDN Controller provides a centralized system to manage the network. The network administrators are empowered by SDN to easily access and manage individual flows by facilitating them to implement monitoring applications, i.e., firewall and IDS. The De Lacey family is a poor family that the creature has been watching from the outside for some time now. Eventually, he wants to make an appearance to the family and show himself to get help. The perfect time is to knock at the door when nobody is home, except for the old man. All the monster wants is somebody who will accept him and care for him. As shown in Frankenstein, there is a strong symbolism in which the old man is blind and can t see the monster. Yet, he accepts him for who he is, while the rest of the De Lacey family harm him and beat him. Symbolism is also shown with the De Lacey family and their cottage. It has a strong representation with the Garden of Edenas the cottage acts as the garden. The novel Frankenstein has many different symbolic elements to it while being connected to the De Lacey s, including the symbolism of the blindman, the way the monster reacts as the humans react to his looks, and the comparison to the Garden of Eden. As shown throughout several chapters of Frankenstein, the old man gives the monster affection and shows that he ll care for him. In his effort to develop a method for polarizing light, Land was searching for a crystal that could not only reduce glare but was stable and economical enough to be produced commercially. He conceived the idea of two plates that would absorb the light waves that were not wanted and transmit those that were. He then succeeded in aligning millions of microscopic iodine crystals in one direction, thus creating the first polarizer. This approach places emphasis on the capacity of nonhuman objects to interact and even participate in various social networks and systems. The Actor Network Theory Explained This theory was developed by scholars Bruno Latour and Michel Callon. Sociologist John Law also contributed to the theory. Established in 1762, the county that I call home has been a part of this country since before we gained our independence from Great Britain. When most Americans hear the surname Polk, they automatically think of our nation s eleventh president, James Knox Polk. A fraction of those people are able to tell you that James was born in Mecklenburg County and spent the first ten or so years of his life in present day Pineville.
