Reflective Sociology Essay
The last six weeks have challenged my preconceived ideas about sociology and the role that it plays
in society in the popular and social media, my values, behaviours and belief system. What I hope to
highlight throughout this reflective essay is what I have learnt and how that has shaped my new
thought process and reinforced old thought patterns. Week one I learnt about the Sociological
imagination where to quote C Wright "The sociological imagination enables us to grasp the
connection between history and biography." (Henslin et al., 2011). Upon further reflection of the
reading material in Sociology a down to earth approach there was one particular story that really
resonated with me. It was the illustration about expecting...show more content...
Week three see's the introduction of the fathers of sociology Auguste Comte, Herbert Spenser, Karl
Marx, Emile Durkheim, Max Weber, Georg Simmel. Karl Marx and Durkheim are the two that
really resonate with me, Durkheim due to his theories around the subject of suicide and how that
subject is particularly personal with me and also Karl Marx theory around class inequality.
Karl Marx believed that man's basic needs were food and shelter and the evolution of these basic
needs led to capitalism, after the industrial revolution we see there being two distinct classes of
people the workers and the capitalist and the effect that this ultimately has on social aspect of
society. Marx looked at the unequal power struggle in this theory and how that conflict would lead to
socialism and eventually communism and it was then that he co–wrote with Englels in 1948 "The
Communist Manifesto". I can really see the same picture that Marx was looking at, even in today's
society in Australia we see the rich getting richer and the poor getting poorer, but more evident in
third world countries where there are polar opposites in wealth and power.
This subject has actually spilled out into my conversation at different locations, talking at a bar with
a guy about the possibility that Jesus was a

Reflective Essay Before I first started my essay, I looked and noticed that I had to do a
documented research essay. I then had to come up with a topic for my essay. I chose ADHA for
my topic, then I have done some research on this topic. I had to find all the information I wanted to
know about this topic I had chosen to write about. I had to write down everything I could find about
this topic, so I could write my essay. With this topic, there is a lot of web pages that have a lot of
information that will help you get everything you need. My first strategy I did was to collect all
information on my topic, so I could do a sketch on topic I had chosen to write about. When
researching this topic, I had found there is a lot of web pages with about this topic I had chosen. I
made sure to have all my web pages written down so that way I can go back and put all my
information down correctly. The next strategy I had done was once I was done I wrote me a
sketch with all the information I collected during my research. I then wrote down everything that I
had found about this topic I had chosen to write about. While I was doing my research, I have
found multiple webpages about this topic and they all had a lot of information about this topic. I
made sure I wrote down all the valuable information from each site I had come across....show more

Once you do the research you find out a lot about your topic and what you wanted to know about
it. I have found out that when researching ADHD there is a different diagnosis. You have to
always make sure you have everything you have found about this topic cited in your essay as well
as at the end of the essay. This helps you make sure you did not copy someone else works and not
give them credit for it. Always go through your essay and make sure you have not left out any

Action Plan: proposed targets for self–development with justification of how they might be achieved.
One of the most difficult obstacles in achieving personal self–development is the lack of a good
action plan. It is not a difficult task, but requires learning to be efficiently executed. The result should
be an effective practise to reach my goal. This is done by the inclusion of an Action Plan, which will
assist in reaching my goal and narrow my focus and drive to achieve that goal. To enable me to
create an Action Plan, I first need to list particulars of thing needed to do to accomplish my goal.
This is done by...show more content...
I now know that my weaknesses particularly lack of confidence is through lack of knowledge in a
specific area and can be boosted by improving my self management and allocating dedicated periods
of time to a specific topic. This in itself will help me overcome the majority of my weaknesses and
boost my confidence, in turn this will have a knock on effect in improving my assertiveness and
concentration and avoid selling myself short. As stated by Chuck Gallozi Internet article 08.12.09
"Many are painfully aware of weaknesses that hold them back. Yet, surprisingly, they are unaware
of their many strengths. Focusing on our weaknesses while ignoring our strengths can be a source
of discouragement and failure. And glorifying our strengths while ignoring our weaknesses can be
equally unproductive. It is only when we give equal weight to our strong points and faults that we
can realise our potential. Also note that we must choose our friends carefully because each
relationship nurtures our strengths and weaknesses. That is, we will grow better or worse,
depending on whom we spend our time with. " Choosing associates at University is not an option

Assessment Reflection Essay examples
As I reflect on my past assessment process, I realized how much my assessments have changed
over the years. In my early years, I used tests for informational recall as my assessments. I felt
these were appropriate guidelines in which I needed to follow in order to substantiate a student's
grade. Every assignment or tests was given a point value and then based on the amount of points, a
grade was given. Every student's assessment was exactly the same, and the assessments did not
contain any subjectivity. I felt confident in giving the grade based on a valid point system. However
reflecting back, I see that I did not include any performance–based assessments or individual learning
styles in my early assessment. I also did not take...show more content...
Part of my assessment philosophy is to assess students on a daily basis which also includes their
reaction to my class. Students come to school with so much baggage that if you only chose one day
a week, or four or five times a marking period to assess them, chances are, they may be having a bad
day. Therefore, these students may not demonstrate their true ability if given only a few attempts
during the marking period. Assessment needs to be a continuous process throughout the marking
period. Everyday my students are given an opportunity to demonstrate their learning whether it is an
observation, a quick answer or a one–on–one discussion or a group project. My assessments are
consistent, flexible and achievable. I adhere to the deadlines that I give my students as part of my
assessment process. I want to infuse in my students that the world has deadlines, and you must be
prepared to meet them.
Assessment for many students means failure instead of demonstrating what you know. Too many
students walk away from a test, a science lab, or any other learning experience and feel as if they
have failed. Students should walk away from these experiences with a feeling of curiosity. If
assessments are correctly used, students would want to experiment more and take additional risks
knowing that the end result would be a feeling of achievement instead of failure. Assessments

Reflective Poetry Essay
Reflective Poetry Essay
Composing poetry is an artistic expression; subsequently it's a way of conveying everything that
needs to be conveyed and finding importance in expressions. Through poetry words are illuminated
to form a picture, express feeling and share a thought in so few words. Putting down on paper all
the emotions going through ones head is a way of re–living and remembering the overwhelming
emotions they grapple with throughout their lives. Poet Michelle Williams states that: ".... humans
have always grappled with overwhelming emotions. Throughout history we have expressed these
emotions in many ways, such as through song, music, dance, art and poetry"
This is true because putting on paper emotions such as hurt and...show more content...
This stanza returns to the solitude of the lonely wondering cloud. However, the poet has been
changed by his imaginative experience involving the daffodils and the accompanying bay waters.
Loneliness is now a peaceful solitude. William Wordsworth describes himself as alone and lonely,
detached even from nature. Wordsworth feeling of sadness emerges from this poem.
In Conclusion, poets William Wordsworth, Percy Shelley and William Blake show how poetry
displays the importance of human ability to convey emotions and say what they feel. Therefore the
quote by poet Michelle Williams is true. In poets William Wordsworth "Preface" to Lyrical ballads,
he describes poetic process as follow:
"Poetry is the spontaneous overflow of powerful feeling: it takes its origin from emotion recollected
in tranquility.
Thus through poetry the opportunity to recreate and relive the previously experienced emotion is
conveyed.
