A Portrait Of The Artist As A Young Man
Essay
Crafting an essay on the topic "A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man" presents a myriad of
challenges that require careful consideration and thoughtful analysis. Firstly, delving into James
Joyce's seminal work demands a comprehensive understanding of its complex narrative structure
and intricate literary techniques. Navigating through the protagonist's psychological and
emotional evolution requires a keen eye for detail and the ability to interpret subtle nuances that
contribute to the overall character development.
Moreover, the essay must go beyond mere plot summary and delve into the broader themes and
motifs embedded in the novel. Unraveling the layers of symbolism, allegory, and allusion that
Joyce artfully weaves into his narrative is no small feat. This task necessitates an in-depth
exploration of the cultural, historical, and philosophical context surrounding the work, adding an
additional layer of complexity to the writing process.
The challenge is further heightened by the need to articulate a coherent and insightful thesis that
not only captures the essence of the novel but also offers a fresh perspective or interpretation.
Developing a compelling argument requires careful research, critical thinking, and the ability to
synthesize disparate elements into a cohesive and persuasive analysis.
Additionally, maintaining a balance between personal interpretation and academic rigor poses its
own set of difficulties. Striking the right tone and ensuring that the essay is both engaging and
scholarly demands a delicate balancing act that can be particularly challenging when grappling
with a work as rich and multilayered as "A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man."
In conclusion, tackling an essay on this particular literary masterpiece requires a combination of
literary acumen, analytical skills, and a deep appreciation for the nuances of Joyce's writing. It is
a task that demands time, dedication, and a commitment to unraveling the complexities inherent
in the text. However, for those seeking assistance or looking to explore similar topics in depth, a
variety of resources are available, including the option to order essays from services like

Dichotomy In Redfern Speech
In speeches the real and ideal values are the enduring values of the past (as what
Paul Keating sees it which the real) playing a key role in the present and future (the
ideal that Paul Keating speaks of) similarly, fact playing a key role in fiction (how
Geraldine Brooks portrays the difference in mathematics and English). The
dichotomy of these values allows for speeches to retain textual integrity. Paul Keating
s Redfern Speech demonstrates textual integrity as it has dichotomy of real and ideal
values. Paul Keating uses the power of rhetoric to effectively highlight the mistakes
made by White Australians . Some journalists showed surprise that this speech
bluntly acknowledged the cultural devastation wrought by colonial conquest. This is

cultural devastation as it was our failure...to ask how would I feel if this were done

that what we were doing degraded all of us. The inclusivity sheds light on reality of
the dispossession of Aboriginal people from their land. A factual report The Report of
the Royal Commission into Aboriginal Deaths in custody showed that the past lived

They currently have approximately 15,000 members, in and out of prison. Initially
formed for the protection of whites against blacks in prison, the gang gradually
moved to becoming a criminal enterprise. The AB are concerned with white
supremacy, and are a ruthless gang who regularly murder those who oppose the
system, growing so out of control at times, that even their own ranking members
could not consider themselves safe. In prison, they strive to control the sale of drugs,
gambling, and punks, or male prostitutes. The Aryan Brotherhood has carried out
contract killings for the Mexican Mafia, but racist beliefs prevent members from
consorting with African Americans, including even taking a cigarette or a candy
bar from them. The only way to be a member is to abide by their philosophy of

Plains Indians Research Paper
The Plains Indians ensued two principal varieties of life: farming and hunting. The
farmers lived in perpetual villages. These tribes were the Arikaras, Pawnees, and
Wichitas (who spoke languages of the Caddoan family) and additionally the Mandans,
Hidatsas, Omahas, Otos, and Osages (who spoke Siouan languages). Their residences
within the northern plains were generally fabricated from logs coated with dirt.
Within the southern plains, their residences were coated in grass. Women farmed,
prepared, and preserved food crops. The men hunted, fished, and cultivated tobacco.
Twice the year the men would endure extended hunting trips for buffalo. Once within
the early summer after their crops were planted and so once more in autumn after the

The army maintained a system of forts at strategic locations and fielded heavy
offensive columns burdened by slow‐moving supply trains. The Indians fought
with hit‐and‐run tactics that exploited environmental factors and avoided open
engagement unless the risk was small. The individual warrior excelled over the
typical regular in virtually every test of combat proficiency, but in open battle, this
was offset by military organization, discipline, command, and firepower. In general,
the army prevailed when the Indians abandoned their orthodoxy and fought by white
rules, or when commanders abandoned their orthodoxy and fought by Indian
Shining Light Lab Report
The hypothesis that was made was, if we shine light at several different transparent
objects at ranging densities the light will bend more when it moves through an object
of higher density, and bend less with an object of lower density. For this project a
computer was used to simulate shining light at the following objects/mediums:
Prisms, water, air, and glass. The intensities of the reflection and refractionwere
measured by the angles from the vertical speed and wavelength. Lightcame through
several prisms, and we noticed that different wavelength of light (i.e. colors of lights)
behaved differently. When reacting to different objects the light came out at sharper
angles of light.
When the light moved from an area of low density (like air) to high density (like
glass) the angle of refraction reduced, this was found during the project. For example,
... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The density causes the speed of light to increase or decrease. This is the
measurements of the mediums testing the previous sentences on the speed of light.
Glass is the most dense medium (out of air, glass, and water). The light from the
laser going into the glass came out as 0.67 c, the speed of refraction (speed going
through the glass) stayed at 0.67 c, this medium had no refraction light . Water is
the second most dense medium. The speed of the light from the laser leaving was
0.75 c, the refraction speed was 0.67 c, and the speed of reflection was 0.75 c. Air
is the least dense. The speed of the light going in is 1.00 c, the refraction light was
0.67 c, and the reflection light was 1.00 c. The speed of light changed as the
medium changed because some objects are more and less dense. The light came out
at different speeds this happens because the less dense mediums allow the light to go
through quicker because there is less density, if the medium is more dense the object
allows the light to go through but not as quickly as an object with less
Advantages And Disadvantages Of Helmet
Helmets have been around since warfare. Nowadays, helmets are used for many
things such as sports, vehicles and fashion. Most current helmets are made up of a
shell, a liner and a strap (bhsi.org). The shell is the outer layer of the helmet and is
usually made of plastic and glued on top of the liner. The liner is the most important
part of the helmet as it provides the most protection. It is usually made of Expanded
Polystyrenefoam. As the foam crushes, it converts the mechanical energy of the
collisionto other forms of energy such as heat, as well as, lengthens the time of
impact which reduces the impact force (F↓= I/T↑). These days some helmets
have different layers of foam with different densities to accommodate to different
kinds of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Standards should help ensure the safety of products. Making new standards,
however, are affected by customer s willingness to buy the product, and thus, we do
not have very safe standards. Helmet standards, just like any other standards, could
also mislead people into being overconfident of the certified product. Lab tests,
which are used to make standards, also cannot accurately stimulate the effects on the
skull because they use a rigid head model. As time passes and impacts occur,
standards could also become meaningless because the foam starts to weaken. To
accommodate to this, you could either buy another helmet after each impact, which
could be expensive, or use the same helmet and endanger
The Concept Of Integrated Marketing Communications
Originating in the early 1990s, the concept of Integrated Marketing
Communications (hereafter referred to as IMC) remains highly contested and
unstable. According to Oxford Dictionary (2015), a concept is an abstract idea or a
plan or intention. IMC falls into both categories as a theoretical definition for some
and a plan of action for others. Equivalently, its value is difficult to assess, as its
range of definitions, confusion over implementation, and lack of empirical studies
prohibit grounded judgments. Even vocal proponents of IMC, such as Don E.
Schultz and Philip J. Kitchen (1997, p.8), acknowledge that there is not any
consistent or mutually agreed upon definition, description, or process to identify
what is IMC and what it is not. In fact, their study demonstrates that only some
advertising agencies affirm Schultz and Kitchen s definition of IMC, highlighting
ambiguity among practitioners as well as academics. Jerry Kliatchko (2008) agrees,
considering the definition and concept as a still developing topic of research. More
recently, Mabel Zvobgo and T.C. Melewar (2011, p.2), state almost identically to
Schultz and Kitchen (1997), There appears to be no mutually agreed upon definition,
description, or process to identify what is IMC and what is not. Similarly, Fill (2013)
discusses the lack of universal definition. Fill (2013) also outlines five interpretations
of the IMC concept: Harmonisation, Planning, Perspective, Portfolio, and Relational.

The Effects Of Xanax On A Person s Health
There are many drugs in the world that can better a person s health. There are also
drugs that can worsen a person s health. If the patient takes the prescribed drug
correctly, than the drug should work, right? What if the patient takes the drug
correctly, but the problem is still not fixed?
The possibilities are endless with the controversial drug, Xanax. The purpose of
Xanax is to make the patient less anxious, but in most cases, it does not. There is a
bigger story behind
Xanax than most people know, it effects the body in many different ways, and it is
not recommended to take if not prescribed.
Xanax is a drug that treats anxiety, panic disorder, sleeplessness, and sometimes used
for short term relief of extreme stress. These medications can also calm patients in
danger of hurting themselves or hurting others, and soothe patients dealing with
tragic life events.
(go.galegroup.com, 1) Some people refer to Xanax as Alprazolam, which is the
generic, most often used brand, of the drug. Xanax belongs to the class of minor
tranquilizers known as benzodiazepines. Xanax comes in the form of a tablet, an
extended release tablet, and a concentrated solution. This drug is prescribed by a
doctor and comes with many rules. If the patient abuses the drug there is a high risk
of addiction. Many patients need 4 milligrams of the pill a day. Using that high of a
dosage may cause the patient to become addicted. If the patient discontinues the drug
too quickly, they could go through
The Assassination Of John Brown
There are many definitions of terrorism and no one can be completely certain what
it really means. Despite his actions at Pottawatomie Creek and Harper s Ferry, John
Brown certainly had legitimate reasons to carry out his attacks. Throughout his
childhood, John had learned to be against slavery. His father was a deeply religious
man who believed owning people was against God s word. Even as a child and
teenager John was mature, enough to be an adult. So when he saw slaves beaten by
their owners, he knew it was wrong. As a teenager, John proceeded to become closer
to the lord. Soon John was an adult and still believed that slaverywas wrong. The
murder of Elijah P. Lovejoy set John over the edge and he vowed that he would end
slavery. In the years that followed, John Browns vow became unfulfilled. Despite his
concern on slavery, John had much more... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When they made it, they rested up for a while before finally acting. As they were
making their way across a railroad. A person, recognizing John, ran off to try to
warn the others. John s men shot to kill. What is ironic about that situation? The
first man they killed in Harper s Ferry was a free black man. Having no remorse
over the dead, John kept tromping onward. He took over Harper s Ferry as
planned but no slaves came to help. In fact, the slaves were among the ones to be
horrified at John s actions. Eventually, the military came and wiped out all of John
s men including two of his sons. John was captured and had to be brought on a
stretcher to his hearing. They announced him guilty of all his crimes and he was
later sentenced to be hanged. John s actions caused a ripple throughout the north.
Northerners looked up to him as a hero. He inspired the north to make their moves
to stop slavery. He showed them that if one man can stand up to slavery imagine
what would happen if all the north stood up too. John Brown was a freedom
Artistic Voice Essay
Artistic Voice
Authors have a distinct identity that you recognize when you read their work of art.
The qualities and aspects of a text that give an author a distinct identity as an artist are
known as their artistic voice. Denise Levertov and Anne Sexton both use different
themes in their poetry that separate them from other poets. Denise Levertov writes
about the unknown and the unsaid in life. Anne Sexton distinguishes herself by
writing about her family, loves, and her emotional tragedies. Sandra Cisneros wrote a
novel called The House on Mango Street that contained a different setup than most
novels. It was written in fragments and the language was straightforward. Cisneros
focuses on the importance of freethinking ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Meaning those problems that occur in the marriage will not just disappear when you
kiss and make up. In the second stanza she is using communion to express how a
spouse if looking for communication with their partner and is being turned away
each by each. Levertov refers to society as a leviathan in the third stanza. She also
talks about how the couple is looking for joy in their relationship, but they do not
want it to be known that things are not working out with them. In the last stanza
Levertov uses to the ark of to explain the survival of marriage. Everyone feels that
marriage is a delightful experience; choosing to ignore the reality of struggles that
relationships must deal with. Levertov took the one sided view that people hold of
marriage and exemplified the realistic problems that people tend to forget.
When Anne Sexton writes her poetry she writes to make the reader feel what she is
writing. Sexton tends to write about her own experiences and events in other women
s lives. In Anne Sexton s Unknown Girl in the Maternity Ward, she uses a language
to express a mother s pain and anger after she gave birth to her fatherless child:
And now that s that. There is nothing more that I can say or lose.

Essay On Frankenstein Perspective
Point of view and perspective are very influential tools. Seeing different perspectives
can change another person or observer s perspective. Thoughts and experiences
influence perspective heavily. We can see this in our political climate, in psychology,
and the way people treat one another based on their experiences, thoughts, and
previous actions. This carries on to Frankenstein is the excerpt; he has a very heavily
varied perspective than those of the villagers , and there is a distinct difference in
thought. Readers learn the thoughts going through Frankenstein s mind, as well as his
good deeds, actions, and curiosity with a will to learn and discover. If the story were
to be told from the point of viewof a villager, it would probably be very negative and
completely different to Frankenstein s perspective.
Actions are very important in telling what something or someone is like. Future
actions can be estimated by someone s previous actions; actions usually reflect the
character and personality of someone. Positive actions are almost always associated
with a good hearted, positive person, and negative actions usually correspond with
wretched, wicked, fearful, hateful, and negative people. These staples of action and
character seem to apply to Frankenstein as well. In paragraphs 4 6, he discovers that
the family he usually observes suffers from poverty. What s amazing is that when he
heard and understood this, he refrained from taking their food again. For a monster

The Endosymbiotic Theory
Before eukaryotic cells contained organelles and worked symbiotically as one, life
consisted of free living bacteria. Organelles, such as chloroplasts and mitochondria,
that are currently found in eukaryotic cells are theorized to have been separate
bacteria before the evolutionary success of the eukaryotic cell. Such idea is proven
through the endosymbiotic theory. This concept provides an evolutionary origin for
the mitochondrion and chloroplast seen in organisms of today. This theory is held
together by DNAevidence found within the organelles themselves. The
mitochondrion alone contain its own genome enclosed in the form of circular DNA,
as well as their own ribosomes and transfer RNA. Similarly, the chloroplasts have
their own genome. When compared to their bacterial ancestors, these DNA sequences
resemble that of the respective organelles. The DNA sequences of these genes
provide clear evidence to the evolutionary success of the eukaryotic cell.... Show

One of these of which were the mitochondrion then the chloroplast respectively over
time. However, the ancestral cell had no need for a free living oxygen metabolizing
bacteria to live symbiotically within its membrane due to its anaerobic nature. After
consumption, the mitochondrial free living bacteria bypassed digestion and
progressed into the membrane of the ancestral cell. This initiated the symbiotic
relationship. The cell can now receive power generation within itself, while the
mitochondria take shelter in the cell. Additionally, the chloroplast has similar
originations; the photosynthetic bacteria were consumed then used in symbiosis to
create food for the ancestral

The World Is The Best
As time elapses, ideas, thoughts, and view of the world tend to modify. I assume that
the literature that is present from hundred years ago until now, displays a shift of
religion to nature. Religion used to be the basis for most of the things, but as new
ideas approached, nature began to replace it. Not implying that nature completely
replaced religion, but it became a new way to understand the world. I believe there
is always going to be a debate on which way to understand the world is the best.
Religious people would argue that the bibleis the guide for lives and the way to
control the world, but on the other hand, science also tries to explain this idea.

How would it pleased God to see a person die in a desperate manner even if they had
sin? God gives us life and would pardon our sins if we seek for him. However, I
believe the puritans, including Bradford, felt that there was no option of
forgiveness. According to what I have read in Bradford s story, I would say that
religion could make someone selfish. I am not against religion, but this is what I
conclude based on this literature. I feel this way because it seems that they just
think for themselves. They believe they are perfect and that anyone else is evil. I
feel that being a religious person, should not make them feel superior like the
puritans did. I believe that in God s eye we are all the same, but the puritans saw
the Native Americans as savages and not pure. An example of this is in the first
encounter the puritans had with the so called savages. Thus it pleased God to
vanquish their enemies...and by his special providence so to dispose that not any
of them were either hurt or hit... (79) In my point of view, here is a clear example
of how they are being selfish. They are just worried about them not being hurt, but
what about the savages? I feel that religion means caring for everyone, but here I see
the opposite of that. Again, how God would be pleased by an

In the Tragedy of Macbeth, Shakespeare depicted the fall of a valiant general, who

During the course of regicide, his wife Lady Macbeth act as a powerful stimulant,
who coaxed and pushed Macbeth to kill the beloved king Duncan. However,we can

Weimar Republic Recovery Essay
The Weimar Republic s Recovery by 1929
From 1919 until 1924 the Weimar Republic had somehow managed to survive
political, economic and foreign policy problems. This was followed by a period of
stability and apparent prosperity until 1929, but I am cautious about the extent to
which the Weimar Republic recovered by 1929. There are three main problematic

There were many economic problems that Germany needed to resolve. Germany was

There were high taxes and farming was not doing well. On top of all of this
Germany still had to make reparation payment as the Young Plan just gave her more
time to pay reparations.
Overall I believe that Germany made a good recovery for the time being, They
were stable and I think well on her way to full recovery but there were still big
problems that needed to be resolved. A main problem that was causing Germany a
lot of grief was that she still needed to pay reparations. I think once they pay back
her loans then she will be able to start to make a full recovery but in the long run I
don t think she has recovered completely.
There were also political problems. Stresemann called off the passive resistance in
the Ruhr and agreed to resume reparations payments, then renegotiated the terms of
reparations. After Germany began to make reparations payments, France and
Belgium had no real reason to stay in the Ruhr, which they had occupied since 1923,
and once they had withdrawn the German government could try to establish political
stability. Socialists had become more popular with the middle classes, there were no
more revolutions and even with all of these problems Weimar had survived!
But there were still problems. A main problem was that no political party ever won a
majority and so Germans were still voting for extreme parties. In 1925 Hindenburg

Culture Is Defined As The Beliefs, Customs, And Arts
Merriam Webster states culture is defined: as the beliefs, customs, and arts, of a
particular society, group, place, or time. People think of culture as they think of a
specific person(s) or a region but with a little studying of culture they would
understand what it really is. The first thing we have to understand is that culture is
taught, or learned over time. Culture is not something you were born with or
receive from your parents. People learn the different cultures through life
experiences, family, and friends. We as humans all require food, water, sleep and
education on important cultural characteristics in order to learn different culture.
Everywhere in the world is different and people come from all different parts of the
world because culture is shared. We learn from others and how people have live
throughout the world. The next characteristic would be symbols, symbols can be
anything from money, art, and language. In parts of the world language to a
specific region is important to their culture. Culture is engraved into our brains at a
young age. A country like the United States, foreigners arrive into a new culture and
learn to adapt in many ways the same as we would have to while in another country.
The last characteristic would be dynamic, this means things change over time. People
always have changed over time and areas change as society grows and advancement
in technology arises. There is actually remote islands where there are
Project Approach Advantages And Disadvantages
The project approach enables children to emerge in projects which they are
interested in, in order to encourage them to raise and ask questions while teachers
will provide materials and allow children to find answers by themselves rather than
telling them the answer directly. For example, if children wonder where breads
come from, or how they are made, teachers may arrange a field trip where they can
find the answers by asking an experienced baker from a bakery, or staff from the
supermarket, and such. Children are also encouraged to use modern technology like
the internet to search for answers under adult supervision or through the traditional
way of going to the library and look for relevant books. A project investigation
promotes in depth... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The main challenge of the project approach is that teachers need to know children
very well in order to be able to understand and fulfill their curiosity. It requires a lot
of time and dedications to learn and understand each child s individual strength and
interests. Another challenge is part of the planning. Although there is no assigned
topic as it is based on children s interest, the teacher has to make sure there is unity
and cohesiveness which every child in class can appreciate at the same time and not
only favoring a certain child s interest. As various interests are developed, teachers
have to keep the communication focused on the value of each group s equal
contribution in terms of knowledge and understanding of the chosen topic by all
children in class.
To conclude, despite the challenges project approach face, it is a great way to
develop in depth thinking while engaging the heart and minds of young children.
Project work offers a wide variety of opportunities for young children s ideas to be
appreciated, their creativity to be encouraged, their interests to be fostered, and for
their learning needs to be met in order to develop a life long love of learning and
understand the interconnected relationship of all things. These are the unique
characteristics of project
Notes On Database Management Systems Essay
Enhancement in Database Management Systems By: Nipun Jain Computer science
department Dronacharya College of Engineering, Gurgaon, Haryana, India
Abstract
This paper is based on the database systems. And will result in providing the whole
new information about that. Basically, database systems are the computer
applications which interacts with the user and help in maintaining the work by
making them in synchronization and in a relative format sometimes. Database
systems are also help in keeping the records of utilities and securing them for ages.
This paper will tell you whole new achievements which can be done with the help of
using the database with its correct efficiencies.
Introduction
A database is an synchronized collection of the data. It is the collection of schemes,
tables, queries, reports, views and other objects. The data is typically organized to
model aspects of reality in a way that supports processes requiring information, such
as modeling the availability of rooms in hotels in a way that supports finding a hotel
with vacancies.
A database management system (DBMS) is a computer software application that
interacts with the user, other applications, and the database itself to capture and
analyze data. A general purpose DBMS is designed to allow the definition, creation,
querying, update, and administration of databases. Well known DBMSs
A Short Note On Response Network ( Warn ) Act
and Response Network (WARN) Act was passed by Congress in 2008. The WARN
Act allows federal agencies to transmit alerts from the President of the United
States, National Weather Service (NWS), state and local emergency operation
centers to participating wireless providers to have those alerts broadcast to their
customers. With the CAP technology of IPAWS using the IPAWS OPEN, the
program formerly known as the Commercial Mobile Alert System (CMAS), now
called the Wireless Emergency Alert (WEA), issues alerts that are transmitted with
technology akin to SMS text messages. These WEA alerts are delivered to all
cellular phones by way of cell towers rather than the older technique of transmitting
text alerts to individual users. The WEA has... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Foreign tourists to the United States will find that their cellular telephones do not
work unless their cellular device are unlocked and capable of functioning on the
MHz spectrum of the area they are visiting. Normally within the US, the service
providers operate on the 850 and 1900 MHz bands. Most other countries, and their
cellular phones operate on the 900, 1800 and 2100 MHz bands. Therefore, foreign
tourists risk not receiving cellular device EAS broadcasts on their locked cellular
phones even if they are within a regional geographically targeted alert zone for
wireless emergency alerts. The lack of other than English alerts also becomes an issue
with these demographic groups. Currently, this weakness in the United States
emergency alert system is not being corrected.
According to the Government Accounting Office report of 2007, there are some 54
million adults within the United States with some degree of hearing or vision
impairment (GAO, 2007). The current EAS system also has poor capabilities to issue
alerts to individuals within the disabled community. At this time, the alerting options
for the disabled community remains limited and further research and development
will be needed. The redundant communication platform alerting capabilities of the
CAP within IPAWS OPEN will be needed for the alerting of this community.
It is expected in 2018, a new application

Decreasing Fossil Fuels
Decreasing Fossil Fuels Over the past century America has continuously used its
own fossil fuel resources and paid handsomely for additional supplies, in the race to
stay current with modern technology and life .The possession of this resource has
made the United States a very prosperous and powerful nation. The same fossil fuels
that s has made America such a powerhouse are the same that are damaging the
environment and economy they have enabled. It is imperative that we decrease our
dependency on fossil fuels, or it is inevitable that our economy and environment will
suffer tremendously. With these fuels being such a crucial and essential part of
Americas livelihood and status, it brings us to the question .What are fossil fuels?...

We will lose these natural blessings with the continuing use of fossil fuels. These
fuels are having jeopardous effects on our ecosystem. The extraction of these fuels
on land degrades the land .It destroys the habitat .The process of drilling, extracting
and processing fossil fuels is not entirely efficient and creates waste .This
sometimes results in harmful by products entering the ground. (Rabl and
Spadaro). It can make it unsustainable .It destroys the habitat of animals that live on
the sites. Land extraction is not worse of two evils. Extraction in marine or
wetland environments has had severe impacts (Cleveland, Hall and Kaufmann
357).Oil spilled on water spreads out and is carried out by water currents. This
contaminated water can be ingested by animals or worse maybe even humans. It
has the propensity to clog appendages, body coverings and membranes of marine
animals. Transporting fossil fuels can cause damage as well. Pipelines carrying oil,
for example, can rupture and spread pollutants over a large area of land. In areas of
chemical spills, vegetation can be killed and unable to be grown for many years.
Toxins contaminating the ground may directly affect crops and the habitats of
animals (358). Another effect of the fuel usage is air pollution. According to Ayhan
Demirbas air pollution can cause health problems and it can also damage the
environment and property. One of the main air pollutants that helps exceed the air
quality standard or AQS is
Sega Enterprises Ltd V. Accolade Inc.
Sega Enterprises Ltd v. Accolade Inc. In the year 1989, Sega Enterprises Ltd
released Sega Genesis and the game had decent security checks which allowed
only the licensed games by the publisher to play on the console. However,
Accolade Inc. released their games into market which could be played on Sega s
console. Accolade had to take license from Sega and pay them some fee for
licensing, but that would increase the overall cost of their game making it
impractical to market it at such overhead charges. So, Accolade decompiled the
game of Sega Genesis and re engineered the code in a way that it could disable the
security locks on the Genesis. Sega as a counter measure introduced the TMSS
(TrademarkSecurity System) on their then latest version Genesis III, which would
scan for and display their trademark on the game before playing. Accolade
responded to this change by identifying the TMSS file and adding it to their games.
The first lawsuit was filed by the Sega Enterprises Ltd against Accolade Inc. on the
grounds of trademark infringement and false designation of origin in violation of
sections 32(1) and 43(a) of the Lanham Act (1946). Later Sega even added copyright
infringement to the existing case. Accolade counter acted by filing case against Sega
under section 43(a) of the Lanham Act (1946). At the District Court level Sega won
the lawsuit, but Accolade took the case to the next level by appealing the case at the
Ninth Circuit of U.S. Court of Appeals. Accolade won

To Hell With Dying as an Autobiography Essay
To Hell With Dying as an Autobiography
When reading fiction, one can begin to wonder how much of a gap there is
between the story the narrator is telling and the actual events that occurred to make
the author decide to write the story. In Alice Walker s To Hell With Dying, one
could say that this story is basically auto biographical. Although some people may
have thought that To Hell With Dying was completely fiction, evidence from the
story and other sources suggest otherwise. The love the narrator feels towards Mr.
Sweet parallels with actual events that took place in Alice Walker s life.
In the preface of Donna Haisty Winchell s book Alice Walker, it is revealed that Alice
Walker was blinded in one eye at age ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This part of the story may be a symbol showing how Mr. Sweet made Walker feel
good in real life just as he makes the narrator feel good in the story.
Walker admired the things that Mr. Sweet stood for. In the story and, most likely, in
real life, Mr. Sweet had ambitions that were not possible to achieve because black
men fare better if they are not [ambitious] (1143). This did not discourage Mr. Sweet
from becoming an artist. Mr. Sweet continued to sing, and it was through this singing
that Walker realized that she wanted to become an artist 148). The memory of Mr.
Sweet s continuous singing also saved Walker s life. In Alice Walker Winchell
writes that Walker credits an old artist in Georgia with turning her attention to life at
a time when death was much on her mind (12). Walker loves Mr. Sweet for saving
her from death.
Although there are differences between Mr. Sweet s death in the story and in real
life, there is still a parallel between the events. In real life. Walker couldn t make it
home when Mr. Sweet died because she was too poor. In the story she races home
to see Mr. Sweet for the last time. Mr., Sweet gives his guitar to the narrator to
remember him. Mr. Sweet s gift of the guitar in the story symbolizes the gift of
creativity he gave Walker in real life. Winchell writes, The seed of creativity was Mr.
Sweet s legacy to Walker. In the story the gift of creativity is passed on

Introduction
India is a country where multiple cultures and identities live wih the notion of unity
in diversity . also due to the distinct geographical, economical and ecological
conditions , probability of influence of certain disease in various areas is probably
high. One such endemic disease is poliomyelitis. A few years back India was in the
list of endemic countries for poliomyelitis as announced by WHO (excluded from
the list in 2012). The highly contagious disease has been a curse from past decades
to the population especially children below 5 years of age. In india the majorly
affected areas were the 107 blocks of western uttar Pradesh and bihar, where the
major challenge is overcoming suboptimal vaccine efficacy. In districts of western
uttar Pradesh which still remains endemic for polio, lower levels of sanitation and
personal hygiene remains a concerned topic for the public health officials, low rate
of immunization and fear of spreading the polio virus, an efficient network of
various national and international agencies was formed to control and eradicate
polio from this region and help india to be declared as polio free .with continous
efforts of this network the residents are now appraising and adapting the vaccination
programmes for polio, which in itself is breakthrough achievement of the pulse polio
eradication programme. Now new initiatives such as USHA project started in 107
blocks aiming to improve water quality, personal hygiene and

Residents feel that the youths hanging out is just a brewing pot for trouble. This
problem can be fixed by many members of the community with one major idea,
give the kids something to do! The town already has in place what is referred to as
Teen Nights, held by the Hasbrouck Heights Recreation Commission. The problem
with these Teen Nights is that it involves a minute amount of the teens in this area.
It involves only 7th and 8th graders. What about the high schoolers? They re the
ones who get bored most easily. To resolve this problem, the need for community
support is at its peak. If different organizations would pitch in and sponsor some
special nights for the teens to get together, there would be fewer nights for kids to
roam the streets. The churches could pitch in by opening up their basements, for a
few nights throughout the year and hold different functions, like dances or have
guest speakers or comedians. The YMCA program that is offered to children in
the elementary school could be expanded to the twelfth grade, not only providing a
place for youth to go, but a place where they can be active. Also local restaurants
can hold such things as a dinner dance every once in a while only expecting a small
fee in return. Another place that could be rented out for teens can be the halls where
Knights of Columbus, the VFW, or the Elks club resides. Another predominant group

The Oppression of Miranda in The Tempest Essay

Prospero manipulates his followers sexuality is the mainstay of his power. The

here is still minimal and sums up to three. Miranda speaks of the lack of female
companionship around her because of her location, but simultaneously the
audience sees that the references to women that do occur within the play often
have a sinister purpose for appearing within the lines. The other women mentioned
in the play seem to provide a sort of dark cloak over the proceedings of the play,
even if they are completely absent. Regardless, Miranda, as the only physical
woman in the play the audience actually sees and hears, is described by Prospero
with kind words, and few, if any, negative imagery revolves around the appearance
of the innocent Miranda. For example, Prospero informs Miranda that this Art is

Prospero also tells Miranda that his mistreatment and harshness toward Caliban

According to my case study of an individual with the disease, progression of
symptoms coincided with stressors involving life dilemmas and other illnesses (Vita,
2009). Stress affects the immune system either directly or indirectly through the
nervous and endocrine systems. These immune modulations may contribute to the
development of autoimmunity as well as the susceptibility to autoimmune disease in
genetically predisposed individuals. Stress can be one of the environmental factors
for thyroid autoimmunity (Mizokami, 2005).
Physical signs/symptoms of the disease involve: bulging eyes (proptosis), vision
issues, low tolerance to heat (increased sweating), massive weight loss, redness and
thickening of the skin of the shins (pretibial myxedema), increased heartbeat
/palpitations and fits of thyroid storm if untreated (Graves Disease and Thyroid
Foundation, 2014). The eyes are affected due to the similarities of this tissue to the
thyroid. The eyes are particularly vulnerable to Graves eye disease, because the
autoimmune attack often targets the eye muscles and connective tissue within the
eye socket. This likely occurs because these tissues contain proteins that appear
similar to the immune system as those of the thyroid gland (Kellog Eye Center,
2014). TSI assaults tissues of the thyroid and the eyes.
Other related symptoms are caused by the homeostatic connection of the

His work, Two Nudes reflects this attitude.
Cubism soon followed after this. Picasso began experimenting with the many facets
of Cubism. Cubism was developed in stages: analytic, synthetic, hermetic, and
rococo. These techniques were not only useful in painting but in collages as well.
Picasso met Eva Marcelle Humbert, and fell in love with her but the war separated
them and she died in 1915. Picasso worked on Harlequin to cope with the grief of his
lost friend.
In 1917, Picasso involved himself with Diaghilev s Russian Ballet. He worked on
costume and set design for Parade(1917) and while all this was going on Picasso
met his future bride, Olga Kokhloven, who was a dancer for the ballet. The Ballet
gave him inspiration for his next work, Three Dancers . Then something dreadful
happened, a small Spanish town became a test site for some new bombs. Picasso s
work, the Guernica demonstrates the horror, cruelty, and injustice that took place.
On a greater scale, not only does it provide compassion for those lost at Guernica, but
it also illustrates how useless and horrible war truly is. Following that, Picasso
became director of the Prado Gallery in Madrid. World War II blazed on while
Picasso worked in Paris and he worked diligently despite the world around him.
Picasso left his wife in 1931, and following that he had many mistresses that
provided him with inspiration for his works and even did some modeling work for
him. Picasso

Cross Gender Communication Essay
Cross Gender Communication: And the Problems Associated with It.
Women and men are different in many ways. They see the world through completely
different perspectives which leads to differences in communication. Women
communicate with their partners not only because they want to talk to someone, but
they also use conversation as an opportunity to bond intimately with their partner,
explore and share thoughts, and express her anxieties. Men on the other hand believe
that all conversations should have a clear purpose, he doesn t need or want to hear the
small details, he listens passively not patiently, he wants to tackle the problem head
on otherwise he loses interest in what the women is trying to convey. Men and
women want to keep each other happy but with the differences in both sexes it could
be easy to end up in a frustrated state of conflict and resentment if they don t
understand each other since the beginning of the relationship. Effective gender
communication is essential to every thriving relationship; however, lack of
communication and problem resolve could result in relationship conflict and
unsatisfied partners if it is not addressed or acknowledged.
Relationships start off with two people showing their best behavior, they connect on
multiple levels and far too often adjust themselves to fit in the relationship they are
in. With time, the connection deepens and the level of fulfillment excels and both
partners find themselves compromising considerable things
Time In Blue Analysis
Brief #6 writing #7 (Art Museum)
Art is intricate as it can be simple. The art piece Time in Blue No. 29, 1996 By
Tatsuo Miyajima, shows that simplicity can still be thought provoking even if the
art piece is merely blue numbers on a pitch black background. What the art piece
meaning is beyond me, but I believe that the art work might mean that even if you
are in the worst time, you can still continue on or something along those lines.
Other than meaning or a purpose all art has set ways that it has used the elements
of art and the principles of art. The way that Time in Blue No. 29, 1996 uses the
elements and principles of art is simple and basic. Since the art work only has a
single color which is as the title implies is blue which is also conveniently
surrounded by pitch black darkness meaning the value of the art is on completely
different spectrums as it goes from bright to dark black. Speaking of the dark black
that surrounds the numbers, this also means that the space is nearly entirely negative.
The lights or the numbers in this case also have a very high intensity since they glow
and are also being highlighted by the surrounding darkness. A strange thing though is
that there are bright blue lights right next to a dark surface so there should be
surrounding glow, yet there is not any which would mean that the graduation is

started by A. Mitchel Palmer. He felt that in order to keep the American values in
tact communism had to be out of the picture. Palmer believed that communism was
amp;quot;eating its way into the American workman amp;quot;. He thought it was
the root of all evils in his society. Palmer felt that communism was
amp;quot;seeking to replace marriage vows with libertine laws, burning up the
foundations of society amp;quot;. In December of 1919, in their most famous act,
Palmer s agents seized 249 resident aliens. Those seized were placed on board a
ship, the Buford, bound for the Soviet Union. Deportees included Emma Goldman
the feminist, anarchist and writer who later recalled the deportation in her
autobiography. Another reason for the Red Scare was the strike held by mine
workers. They were thought to be making threatening moves against the Capitalist
system through subversive Socialist organizations. These strikes were part of a series
of events taking place in 1919. This strike,
The Dark Knight Rises Film
Even to this day, many have failed to replicate what has been known to be the most
successful superhero trilogy of all time. With awards totaling south of over seventy
total wins and over 100 nominations, the Dark Knight Rises remains to be everything
a film needs to be to always remain a timeless classic. The method the team used to
overwhelm the world with this immaculate trilogy was to create the last installment
as more than just a film, but as a piece of art as well. Many methods were used to
reach this profound approach to filmmaking, however it was the brilliant
cinematography, the acting that brought the characters to life, and the director s
genius ending that transitioned the Dark KnightRises from an ordinary film, into an
admired piece of art to all.
One of the major reasons for the success of the Dark Knight Rises film is because of
its award winning cinematography that the brilliant Mr. Wally Pfister orchestrated
throughout the vigorous 3 hour film. Without a doubt, the vividness portrayed from
the gritty lightening aids the goal of achieving timeless art through the process of
using natural light to depict the different array of natural colors to create beauty.
Another method of the brilliant cinematography that this film contains is the
directing of the action sequences. Christopher Nolan constructed a scene prop that
allows him to film night scenes during the day. This allows him to overexpose the
lightening during the actual fighting that gives those
Sebw Case Studies
Introduction
Premature birth occurs at a time of rapid fetal growth and nutrient accumulation and
therefore establishing postnatal nutrition is essential to achieve appropriate growth
and maintain biochemical normality. There are significant risks with parentral
nutrition like infection, cholestasis, hepatic dysfunction, thinning of gut mucosa and
impairment of enzyme production. A delay in reaching full enteral feeding is linked
to poor outcome in preterm neonates including postnatal growth restriction and
failure to thrive issue especially in extremely low birth weight neonates. An increased
length of time to reach full enteral feedings is also significantly associated with a
poor mental outcome in preterm neonates at 24 months corrected ... Show more

There was also no significant difference observed in the secondary outcome
between theto groups. An observational cohort study by Shim et al. reported a
significant positive effect on feeding tolerance and sepsis prevention in VLBW
infants. The study group achieved full enteral feeding significantly faster than the
control group (16 days vs. 22.9 days). Haiden, et al. in a randomized control trial
found that repeated daily application of small volume diluted glycerin enemas does
not accelerate meconium evacuation and FEF in VLBW infants. Khadr, et al. in a
non blinded randomized control trial showed that the median time to full feeds was
1.6 days shorter in the glycerin suppository group however it was not statistically
significant. The study concluded that regular glycerin suppositories did not reduce
the time to full enteral feeds in infants born at 32 weeks gestation and no
significant differences were observed in secondary outcomes like incidence of
sepsis, NEC, duration of oxygen requirement, growth or age at discharge. A double
blinded RCT by Shinde, et al. concluded that once daily application of glycerin
suppository does not accelerate the achievement of full feeds in preterm VLBW
neonates. Meconoium retention is believed to result in gastric residuals, distention of
abdomen, delayed passage of food possibly by enteroenteric reflexes leading to
delayed gastric emptying. The passage of first meconium only reflects the function of
terminal bowel and achievement of total meconium evacuation which is delayed in
preterm infants also correlate better with feed tolerance. The
Death of Baby P Essay examples
Death of Baby P
Peter Connelly also known as Baby P was a British 17 months old boy who died in
London in August 2007 after suffering more than 50 injuries over the eight months
period, during which he was repeatedly seen by Haringey Children s Services, NHS
Health Professionals and the Police; all who committed a catalogue of errors which
led to the Death of Baby P at the hand of his mother and her sadistic boyfriend (Mr H
Baker).
According to the two Serious Case Review (SCR) released by the coalition and then
Children Health Secretary Ed ball, which found the youngster s horrifying death
could and should have been prevented by the public workers charged with protecting
him.
Baby P s mother (Tracey Connelly) told her social ... Show more content on

They also swallowed Connelly s account of Baker s limited involvement, which
showed a lack of thoroughness of police investigations.
The family G.P accepted Connelly s lies that Baby P s bruised easily when he
examined the baby at six months. In the final days of baby P s life a G.P said he was
in a sorry state but did not alert others, decides she cannot carry out a full check up
as the boy is miserable and cranky . A post mortem examination later reveals Peter
had probably already suffered a broken back and fracture ribs by this point.
According to the Mail on Sunday 15 March 2009, reported that details of the
Serious Case Review initiated by Haringey Council had come into its possession.
It stated that there were instances of mishandling by officials, missed and delayed
meetings, miscommunication among officials, and a failure to follow through
with decisions related to he child s safety. It also noted among other issues that
officials had not followed through with obtaining an interim care order that would
have removed Peter from his home when they had agreed that legal grounds had
existed for doing so six months before he died; key officials also failed to attend a 25
July 2007 meeting intended to decide if it would be necessary to remove Peter from
his mother s mom at that
The Repercussions Of Ignorance In The Chrysalids By
John...
The Repercussions of Ignorance Martin Luther King said, Nothing in all the world is
more dangerous than sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity (Bell). The
Chrysalids by John Wyndham is set in the future after an apocalyptic event known as
Tribulation, causing a lack of knowledge of the past. The main community, Waknuk,
is prejudiced and ignorant. The narrator, David, recalls the unfolding of the dangerous
predicament caused by his society s ignorance. In this novel, the author presents that
ignorance results in adversity and ultimately, a society s downfall. The Waknukians
ignorance creates a hostile environment, causes disagreement, and is the agent of
their own defeat.
The Waknukians ignorance leads to their abomination of Mutants, creating a very
hostile environment. Their ignorance and lack of knowledge cause them to rely on
the only remains of the Old People and are used for direction in their lives. When
speaking of Nicholson s Repentances David says, Frequent references to these texts
had made me familiar with the words long before I was able to read, in fact I am
not sure that they did not give me my first reading lessons. I knew them by heart,
just as I knew others elsewhere in the house, which said things like: THE NORM
IS THE WILL OF GOD (18). This represents the environment that the Waknukians
are exposed to early in life, and this is evident when David says that he was
familiar with the words long before [he] was able to read. It shows how significant
these morals are to the Waknukians, and how in the absence of knowledge, they
preach the only things that they know. This creates an image from a young age of
what Mutants are like and creates a hostile and antagonistic society. The people of
Waknuk are very vigilant because of their upbringing, and what they have been
taught is right. David says, People in our district had a very sharp eye for the odd, or
the unusual, so that even my left handedness caused slight disapproval (5). This is
important because it gives insight into the Waknukians views and opinions, and the
mentality of Waknuk becomes clear. It ties into the communities ignorance because
they act this way out of scarcity of any other options. They are taught that
Causes Of A Blocked Drain In Bomber Bridge
A blocked drain in Bamber Bridge is no joke! This often occurs at the most
inopportune time when you least expect it, or when you have a house full of
guests. Rather than trying out home remedies to sort out a blocked drain, speak to
a professional drain cleaning company. They will be able to determine the cause of
the blocked drain and the best method of solving the problem. Blocked drains are
caused by a multitude of different things and a drain cleaning company can find
the source of the problem, repair it, and advise you on how to keep your drains
working the way they should. For your home in Bamber Bridge, a blocked drain
could be caused by excess fat washing down your kitchen sink. In the bathroom, the
shower drain can become blocked

Summary Of Speak By Laurie Hales Anderson
The novel Speak by Laurie Hales Anderson shows Melinda Sordino struggling
through the year, and her recovery from the painful memory of getting raped at the
party in summer break. In the beginning of the story, the story shows how bad
Melinda feels and then she changes and starts growing and at the final stage of the
story Melinda becomes a strong hard oaktree like person. In the book Speak, the
author symbolizes the tree to show Melinda s change from being an outcast to being
an accepted person; this also supports the theme: time can help heal one s painful
memories. In the beginning of the year, her trees looked like trees that existed
nowhere on earth, but by the end of the year, her trees were breathing and looked as
if they had shot up... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As the year goes on Melinda finds Heather from Ohio. She realizes that Heather is
also in the same position as her. The relationship with Heather allows Melinda to
build on herself. She sees herself as a strong oak tree with a wide scarred think and
thousands of leaves reaching into the sun (78). However Heather decides to end
the relation in the friendship between Melinda and joins the Marthas. After
Melinda makes the turkey bone tree which represents herself, Ivy in her art class
shows interest toward her, and becomes the second Heather to Melinda. Ivy tells
Melinda that it s just fine the way it is, it just needs some leaves. Layer the leaves
and make them slightly different sizes and they will look great .(146). Ivy helps
Melinda see that the tree is just fine the way it is, and it is only the wounded parts
she has to work on; the tree only has to regrow some leaves, as Melinda could also
be healed if she cuts off her wounds. Towards the end of the year, there is a clear
change in Melinda and she is confident of herself. When Andy tries to attack her
again she says NNNOOO!!! (188) This shows how much she has grown because
she decides not to be a silent victim anymore. Now she is a definitely breathing
(197) tree. She came up struggling and feeling alone by herself, but she knew that
she made a lot of progress from the start.
The Tragedy Of Jacob And The Princes
Everything went silent. Everyone was staring at me with shock. I can feel the guilt
come off of them in waves.
Let her go, Prince Coby whispers quietly. So quietly that not many people could hear
it, including the executioner. A moment later after realizing the executioner didn t
hear Coby yells angrily, Let her go!
The executioner flinches but quickly after he lets me up. I crawl to my shaky feet.
I look around at everyone but as soon as I meet the gaze they look down in shame. I
look at Jacob. I let my betrayal and hurt shine through. He looks at me and then at the
ground.

was saying I did the only logical thing I could think of at the moment. I ... Show more

I turn and glare at him making him flinch.
Morganne we need to talk, Jacob began. I know that you are a little freaked about
what I said.
A little! A little? try a whole fucking lot! I scream in his face. Here let me give you
a scenario. First, you get attacked by unknown people. Then, you get teleported to
an unknown land where you find out you have powers. Then, you get falsely
accused of being a spy and sent to execution. Then lastly, right before you re about
to be executed your boyfriend screams out that you re a princess. I say in a sickly
sweet voice. Now let me ask you a question, how would you react if all that
happened to you? Because I know how I am reacting to that. I am pretty damn
freaked out and I m hoping that this is some sick joke or a nightmare. I say slowly
feeling the panic take over.
I start to hyperventilate. Tears are threatening to fall down my face. Someone kneels
in front of me and touches my arm. I look up and see it is Prince Bobby.
I can help you calm down all you need to do is allow me. He says softly.
No, I say softly. No, No, No. Don t fucking touch me. I yell while slapping his arm
away. The tears start to fall and I can t stop it. I hear Prince Bobby exhale with
frustration. Jacob kneels down in front of me and grabs my hand.
Morganne is there anything I can do for you. Just tell me what you want. Jacob said
in a soft voice. I look at him straight in the eye. Tears still flowing down my cheeks..

A Portrait Of The Artist As A Young Man Essay

  • 1. A Portrait Of The Artist As A Young Man Essay Crafting an essay on the topic "A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man" presents a myriad of challenges that require careful consideration and thoughtful analysis. Firstly, delving into James Joyce's seminal work demands a comprehensive understanding of its complex narrative structure and intricate literary techniques. Navigating through the protagonist's psychological and emotional evolution requires a keen eye for detail and the ability to interpret subtle nuances that contribute to the overall character development. Moreover, the essay must go beyond mere plot summary and delve into the broader themes and motifs embedded in the novel. Unraveling the layers of symbolism, allegory, and allusion that Joyce artfully weaves into his narrative is no small feat. This task necessitates an in-depth exploration of the cultural, historical, and philosophical context surrounding the work, adding an additional layer of complexity to the writing process. The challenge is further heightened by the need to articulate a coherent and insightful thesis that not only captures the essence of the novel but also offers a fresh perspective or interpretation. Developing a compelling argument requires careful research, critical thinking, and the ability to synthesize disparate elements into a cohesive and persuasive analysis. Additionally, maintaining a balance between personal interpretation and academic rigor poses its own set of difficulties. Striking the right tone and ensuring that the essay is both engaging and scholarly demands a delicate balancing act that can be particularly challenging when grappling with a work as rich and multilayered as "A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man." In conclusion, tackling an essay on this particular literary masterpiece requires a combination of literary acumen, analytical skills, and a deep appreciation for the nuances of Joyce's writing. It is a task that demands time, dedication, and a commitment to unraveling the complexities inherent in the text. However, for those seeking assistance or looking to explore similar topics in depth, a variety of resources are available, including the option to order essays from services like HelpWriting.net. Dichotomy In Redfern Speech In speeches the real and ideal values are the enduring values of the past (as what Paul Keating sees it which the real) playing a key role in the present and future (the ideal that Paul Keating speaks of) similarly, fact playing a key role in fiction (how Geraldine Brooks portrays the difference in mathematics and English). The dichotomy of these values allows for speeches to retain textual integrity. Paul Keating s Redfern Speech demonstrates textual integrity as it has dichotomy of real and ideal values. Paul Keating uses the power of rhetoric to effectively highlight the mistakes made by White Australians . In prison, they strive to control the sale of drugs, gambling, and punks, or male prostitutes. The Aryan Brotherhood has carried out contract killings for the Mexican Mafia, but racist beliefs prevent members from consorting with African Americans, including even taking a cigarette or a candy bar from them. • 5. Plains Indians Research Paper The Plains Indians ensued two principal varieties of life: farming and hunting. The farmers lived in perpetual villages. These tribes were the Arikaras, Pawnees, and Wichitas (who spoke languages of the Caddoan family) and additionally the Mandans, Hidatsas, Omahas, Otos, and Osages (who spoke Siouan languages). Their residences within the northern plains were generally fabricated from logs coated with dirt. Within the southern plains, their residences were coated in grass. The Indians fought with hit‐and‐run tactics that exploited environmental factors and avoided open engagement unless the risk was small. In general, the army prevailed when the Indians abandoned their orthodoxy and fought by white rules, or when commanders abandoned their orthodoxy and fought by Indian
  • 6. Shining Light Lab Report The hypothesis that was made was, if we shine light at several different transparent objects at ranging densities the light will bend more when it moves through an object of higher density, and bend less with an object of lower density. For this project a computer was used to simulate shining light at the following objects/mediums: Prisms, water, air, and glass. The intensities of the reflection and refractionwere measured by the angles from the vertical speed and wavelength. Lightcame through several prisms, and we noticed that different wavelength of light (i.e. colors of lights) behaved differently. When reacting to different objects the light came out at sharper angles of light. When the light moved from an area of low density (like air) to high density (like glass) the angle of refraction reduced, this was found during the project. For example, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The density causes the speed of light to increase or decrease. This is the measurements of the mediums testing the previous sentences on the speed of light. Glass is the most dense medium (out of air, glass, and water). The light from the laser going into the glass came out as 0.67 c, the speed of refraction (speed going through the glass) stayed at 0.67 c, this medium had no refraction light . Water is the second most dense medium. The speed of the light from the laser leaving was 0.75 c, the refraction speed was 0.67 c, and the speed of reflection was 0.75 c. Air is the least dense. The speed of the light going in is 1.00 c, the refraction light was 0.67 c, and the reflection light was 1.00 c. The speed of light changed as the medium changed because some objects are more and less dense. The light came out at different speeds this happens because the less dense mediums allow the light to go through quicker because there is less density, if the medium is more dense the object allows the light to go through but not as quickly as an object with less
  • 7. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Helmet Helmets have been around since warfare. Nowadays, helmets are used for many things such as sports, vehicles and fashion. Most current helmets are made up of a shell, a liner and a strap (bhsi.org). The shell is the outer layer of the helmet and is usually made of plastic and glued on top of the liner. The liner is the most important part of the helmet as it provides the most protection. It is usually made of Expanded Polystyrenefoam. As the foam crushes, it converts the mechanical energy of the collisionto other forms of energy such as heat, as well as, lengthens the time of impact which reduces the impact force (F↓= I/T↑). Helmet standards, just like any other standards, could also mislead people into being overconfident of the certified product. Lab tests, which are used to make standards, also cannot accurately stimulate the effects on the skull because they use a rigid head model. As time passes and impacts occur, standards could also become meaningless because the foam starts to weaken. To accommodate to this, you could either buy another helmet after each impact, which could be expensive, or use the same helmet and endanger
  • 8. The Concept Of Integrated Marketing Communications Originating in the early 1990s, the concept of Integrated Marketing Communications (hereafter referred to as IMC) remains highly contested and unstable. According to Oxford Dictionary (2015), a concept is an abstract idea or a plan or intention. IMC falls into both categories as a theoretical definition for some and a plan of action for others. Equivalently, its value is difficult to assess, as its range of definitions, confusion over implementation, and lack of empirical studies prohibit grounded judgments. Even vocal proponents of IMC, such as Don E. Schultz and Philip J. Kitchen (1997, p.8), acknowledge that there is not any consistent or mutually agreed upon definition, description, or process to identify what is IMC and what it is not. In fact, their study demonstrates that only some advertising agencies affirm Schultz and Kitchen s definition of IMC, highlighting ambiguity among practitioners as well as academics. Jerry Kliatchko (2008) agrees, considering the definition and concept as a still developing topic of research. More recently, Mabel Zvobgo and T.C. Melewar (2011, p.2), state almost identically to Schultz and Kitchen (1997), There appears to be no mutually agreed upon definition, description, or process to identify what is IMC and what is not. Similarly, Fill (2013) discusses the lack of universal definition. Fill (2013) also outlines five interpretations of the IMC concept: Harmonisation, Planning, Perspective, Portfolio, and Relational. If the patient takes the prescribed drug correctly, than the drug should work, right? What if the patient takes the drug correctly, but the problem is still not fixed? The possibilities are endless with the controversial drug, Xanax. The purpose of Xanax is to make the patient less anxious, but in most cases, it does not. There is a bigger story behind Xanax than most people know, it effects the body in many different ways, and it is not recommended to take if not prescribed. Xanax is a drug that treats anxiety, panic disorder, sleeplessness, and sometimes used for short term relief of extreme stress. These medications can also calm patients in danger of hurting themselves or hurting others, and soothe patients dealing with tragic life events. (go.galegroup.com, 1) Some people refer to Xanax as Alprazolam, which is the generic, most often used brand, of the drug. Xanax belongs to the class of minor tranquilizers known as benzodiazepines. Xanax comes in the form of a tablet, an extended release tablet, and a concentrated solution. This drug is prescribed by a doctor and comes with many rules. If the patient abuses the drug there is a high risk of addiction. Many patients need 4 milligrams of the pill a day. Using that high of a dosage may cause the patient to become addicted. If the patient discontinues the drug too quickly, they could go through
  • 10. The Assassination Of John Brown There are many definitions of terrorism and no one can be completely certain what it really means. Despite his actions at Pottawatomie Creek and Harper s Ferry, John Brown certainly had legitimate reasons to carry out his attacks. Throughout his childhood, John had learned to be against slavery. His father was a deeply religious man who believed owning people was against God s word. Even as a child and teenager John was mature, enough to be an adult. So when he saw slaves beaten by their owners, he knew it was wrong. As a teenager, John proceeded to become closer to the lord. Soon John was an adult and still believed that slaverywas wrong. The murder of Elijah P. Lovejoy set John over the edge and he vowed that he would end slavery. In the years that followed, John Browns vow became unfulfilled. The first man they killed in Harper s Ferry was a free black man. Having no remorse over the dead, John kept tromping onward. He took over Harper s Ferry as planned but no slaves came to help. In fact, the slaves were among the ones to be horrified at John s actions. Eventually, the military came and wiped out all of John s men including two of his sons. John was captured and had to be brought on a stretcher to his hearing. They announced him guilty of all his crimes and he was later sentenced to be hanged. John s actions caused a ripple throughout the north. Northerners looked up to him as a hero. He inspired the north to make their moves to stop slavery. He showed them that if one man can stand up to slavery imagine what would happen if all the north stood up too. John Brown was a freedom

The qualities and aspects of a text that give an author a distinct identity as an artist are known as their artistic voice. Denise Levertov and Anne Sexton both use different themes in their poetry that separate them from other poets. Denise Levertov writes about the unknown and the unsaid in life. Anne Sexton distinguishes herself by writing about her family, loves, and her emotional tragedies. In the second stanza she is using communion to express how a spouse if looking for communication with their partner and is being turned away each by each. She also talks about how the couple is looking for joy in their relationship, but they do not want it to be known that things are not working out with them. In the last stanza Levertov uses to the ark of to explain the survival of marriage. Everyone feels that marriage is a delightful experience; choosing to ignore the reality of struggles that relationships must deal with. Levertov took the one sided view that people hold of marriage and exemplified the realistic problems that people tend to forget. When Anne Sexton writes her poetry she writes to make the reader feel what she is writing. Sexton tends to write about her own experiences and events in other women s lives. In Anne Sexton s Unknown Girl in the Maternity Ward, she uses a language to express a mother s pain and anger after she gave birth to her fatherless child: And now that s that. • 12. Essay On Frankenstein Perspective Point of view and perspective are very influential tools. Seeing different perspectives can change another person or observer s perspective. Thoughts and experiences influence perspective heavily. We can see this in our political climate, in psychology, and the way people treat one another based on their experiences, thoughts, and previous actions. This carries on to Frankenstein is the excerpt; he has a very heavily varied perspective than those of the villagers , and there is a distinct difference in thought. Readers learn the thoughts going through Frankenstein s mind, as well as his good deeds, actions, and curiosity with a will to learn and discover. If the story were to be told from the point of viewof a villager, it would probably be very negative and completely different to Frankenstein s perspective. Actions are very important in telling what something or someone is like. Future actions can be estimated by someone s previous actions; actions usually reflect the character and personality of someone. Positive actions are almost always associated with a good hearted, positive person, and negative actions usually correspond with wretched, wicked, fearful, hateful, and negative people. These staples of action and character seem to apply to Frankenstein as well. In paragraphs 4 6, he discovers that the family he usually observes suffers from poverty. What s amazing is that when he heard and understood this, he refrained from taking their food again. For a monster who

  • 15. The Endosymbiotic Theory Before eukaryotic cells contained organelles and worked symbiotically as one, life consisted of free living bacteria. Organelles, such as chloroplasts and mitochondria, that are currently found in eukaryotic cells are theorized to have been separate bacteria before the evolutionary success of the eukaryotic cell. Such idea is proven through the endosymbiotic theory. This concept provides an evolutionary origin for the mitochondrion and chloroplast seen in organisms of today. This theory is held together by DNAevidence found within the organelles themselves. The mitochondrion alone contain its own genome enclosed in the form of circular DNA, as well as their own ribosomes and transfer RNA. Similarly, the chloroplasts have their own genome. When compared to their bacterial ancestors, these DNA sequences resemble that of the respective organelles. The DNA sequences of these genes provide clear evidence to the evolutionary success of the eukaryotic cell.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, the ancestral cell had no need for a free living oxygen metabolizing bacteria to live symbiotically within its membrane due to its anaerobic nature. After consumption, the mitochondrial free living bacteria bypassed digestion and progressed into the membrane of the ancestral cell. This initiated the symbiotic relationship. The cell can now receive power generation within itself, while the mitochondria take shelter in the cell. Additionally, the chloroplast has similar originations; the photosynthetic bacteria were consumed then used in symbiosis to create food for the ancestral

I assume that the literature that is present from hundred years ago until now, displays a shift of religion to nature. Religion used to be the basis for most of the things, but as new ideas approached, nature began to replace it. Not implying that nature completely replaced religion, but it became a new way to understand the world. I believe there is always going to be a debate on which way to understand the world is the best. Religious people would argue that the bibleis the guide for lives and the way to control the world, but on the other hand, science also tries to explain this idea. How would it pleased God to see a person die in a desperate manner even if they had sin? God gives us life and would pardon our sins if we seek for him. However, I believe the puritans, including Bradford, felt that there was no option of forgiveness. According to what I have read in Bradford s story, I would say that religion could make someone selfish. I am not against religion, but this is what I conclude based on this literature. I feel this way because it seems that they just think for themselves. They believe they are perfect and that anyone else is evil. I feel that being a religious person, should not make them feel superior like the puritans did. I believe that in God s eye we are all the same, but the puritans saw the Native Americans as savages and not pure. An example of this is in the first encounter the puritans had with the so called savages. Thus it pleased God to vanquish their enemies...and by his special providence so to dispose that not any of them were either hurt or hit... (79) In my point of view, here is a clear example of how they are being selfish. They are just worried about them not being hurt, but what about the savages? I feel that religion means caring for everyone, but here I see the opposite of that. Again, how God would be pleased by an

Basic Information: Jason Carvalho UPI: jcar604 ID: 911599634 Date: 6 May 2015 10:00 to 13:00 Group 1 2. Aim: The speed of sound in air is determined by many factors. Our aim was to measure the speed of sound in air using ultrasonic waves in the laboratory, then comparing the results to the theoretical value to thus determine any discrepancies between the two values and understand the factors that affected our experimental value. The Theoretical Speed of Sound in air is = 343 ms 1 3. Method: Good laboratory practices follows, checking the equipment and familiarising yourself with all the components that you will use in your experiment. We undertook this by following figure 4 in the laboratory manual. For our first trial, we started by adjusting the frequency of the signal generator such that the observed amplitude of the generated signal of the Oscilloscope was at the maximum, to which the signal generator indicated this to be at 32.4 kHZ or 32400 Hz. Next we adjusted the position of the receiver such that the waveform of the generated signal and the received signal were in phase. We recorded the position as which this occurred as 0.120m from the origin on the angle track and labelled it at R . Setting Ti (Transmitter Cone Initial Position) at a random position at which the two waveforms were in phase, we proceed to move Ti through twenty periods of phase change,

This was followed by a period of stability and apparent prosperity until 1929, but I am cautious about the extent to which the Weimar Republic recovered by 1929. There are three main problematic areas; political, economic and foreign policy. There were many economic problems that Germany needed to resolve. A main problem that was causing Germany a lot of grief was that she still needed to pay reparations. I think once they pay back her loans then she will be able to start to make a full recovery but in the long run I don t think she has recovered completely. There were also political problems. Stresemann called off the passive resistance in the Ruhr and agreed to resume reparations payments, then renegotiated the terms of reparations. After Germany began to make reparations payments, France and Belgium had no real reason to stay in the Ruhr, which they had occupied since 1923, and once they had withdrawn the German government could try to establish political stability. Socialists had become more popular with the middle classes, there were no more revolutions and even with all of these problems Weimar had survived! But there were still problems. A main problem was that no political party ever won a majority and so Germans were still voting for extreme parties. In 1925 Hindenburg was

Although there is no assigned topic as it is based on children s interest, the teacher has to make sure there is unity and cohesiveness which every child in class can appreciate at the same time and not only favoring a certain child s interest. As various interests are developed, teachers have to keep the communication focused on the value of each group s equal contribution in terms of knowledge and understanding of the chosen topic by all children in class. Database systems are also help in keeping the records of utilities and securing them for ages. This paper will tell you whole new achievements which can be done with the help of using the database with its correct efficiencies. Introduction A database is an synchronized collection of the data. It is the collection of schemes, tables, queries, reports, views and other objects. The data is typically organized to model aspects of reality in a way that supports processes requiring information, such as modeling the availability of rooms in hotels in a way that supports finding a hotel with vacancies. A database management system (DBMS) is a computer software application that interacts with the user, other applications, and the database itself to capture and analyze data. In the year 1989, Sega Enterprises Ltd released Sega Genesis and the game had decent security checks which allowed only the licensed games by the publisher to play on the console. Accolade had to take license from Sega and pay them some fee for licensing, but that would increase the overall cost of their game making it impractical to market it at such overhead charges. So, Accolade decompiled the game of Sega Genesis and re engineered the code in a way that it could disable the security locks on the Genesis. Sega as a counter measure introduced the TMSS (TrademarkSecurity System) on their then latest version Genesis III, which would scan for and display their trademark on the game before playing. Accolade responded to this change by identifying the TMSS file and adding it to their games. Picasso began experimenting with the many facets of Cubism. Cubism was developed in stages: analytic, synthetic, hermetic, and rococo. These techniques were not only useful in painting but in collages as well. Picasso met Eva Marcelle Humbert, and fell in love with her but the war separated them and she died in 1915. Picasso worked on Harlequin to cope with the grief of his lost friend. In 1917, Picasso involved himself with Diaghilev s Russian Ballet. He worked on costume and set design for Parade(1917) and while all this was going on Picasso met his future bride, Olga Kokhloven, who was a dancer for the ballet. The Ballet gave him inspiration for his next work, Three Dancers . Then something dreadful happened, a small Spanish town became a test site for some new bombs. Picasso s work, the Guernica demonstrates the horror, cruelty, and injustice that took place. On a greater scale, not only does it provide compassion for those lost at Guernica, but it also illustrates how useless and horrible war truly is. Following that, Picasso became director of the Prado Gallery in Madrid. World War II blazed on while Picasso worked in Paris and he worked diligently despite the world around him. Picasso left his wife in 1931, and following that he had many mistresses that provided him with inspiration for his works and even did some modeling work for him. Picasso

  • 37. Cross Gender Communication Essay Cross Gender Communication: And the Problems Associated with It. Women and men are different in many ways. They see the world through completely different perspectives which leads to differences in communication. Women communicate with their partners not only because they want to talk to someone, but they also use conversation as an opportunity to bond intimately with their partner, explore and share thoughts, and express her anxieties. Men on the other hand believe that all conversations should have a clear purpose, he doesn t need or want to hear the small details, he listens passively not patiently, he wants to tackle the problem head on otherwise he loses interest in what the women is trying to convey. Men and women want to keep each other happy but with the differences in both sexes it could be easy to end up in a frustrated state of conflict and resentment if they don t understand each other since the beginning of the relationship. Effective gender communication is essential to every thriving relationship; however, lack of communication and problem resolve could result in relationship conflict and unsatisfied partners if it is not addressed or acknowledged. Relationships start off with two people showing their best behavior, they connect on multiple levels and far too often adjust themselves to fit in the relationship they are in. With time, the connection deepens and the level of fulfillment excels and both partners find themselves compromising considerable things
  • 38. Time In Blue Analysis Brief #6 writing #7 (Art Museum) Art is intricate as it can be simple. The art piece Time in Blue No. 29, 1996 By Tatsuo Miyajima, shows that simplicity can still be thought provoking even if the art piece is merely blue numbers on a pitch black background. What the art piece meaning is beyond me, but I believe that the art work might mean that even if you are in the worst time, you can still continue on or something along those lines. Other than meaning or a purpose all art has set ways that it has used the elements of art and the principles of art. The way that Time in Blue No. 29, 1996 uses the elements and principles of art is simple and basic. Since the art work only has a single color which is as the title implies is blue which is also conveniently surrounded by pitch black darkness meaning the value of the art is on completely different spectrums as it goes from bright to dark black. Speaking of the dark black that surrounds the numbers, this also means that the space is nearly entirely negative. The lights or the numbers in this case also have a very high intensity since they glow and are also being highlighted by the surrounding darkness. A strange thing though is that there are bright blue lights right next to a dark surface so there should be surrounding glow, yet there is not any which would mean that the graduation is almost nonexistent ... The colors pop from the pitch black background and bright lights for colors along with the numbers being exactly the same in size making it not focused on anything allowing free movement along the entire canvas. The art work as stated previously is simple, but the message that it may be trying to covey is still fairly big, for when times are dark there will still be a dim light that is bright in this pitch blackness even if it shows that the days are
  • 39. Essay on Mccarthyism Vivian Gonzalez Mr. Martinez Ramos A.P. United States History May 3, 2000 McCarthyism was one of the saddest events of American history. It destroyed people s lives and shattered many families. It threw innocent people into a whirlwind of mass confusion and fictional portrayals of their lives. McCarthyism spawned for the country s new found terror of Communism known as the red scare. McCarthyism was an extreme version of the red scare, a scare whose ends did not justify the means. The Red Scare happened twice in the history of this great country. When the communist took over Russia in 1919, the American peoplewere unnerved. It causes people to do and act in certain ways in which they are not accustomed. It can turn brother against brother, neighbor against neighbor, politician against politician, and country against country. Fear instigates panic. It was that panic that prompted the Palmer Raids. The Palmer Raids were started by A. Mitchel Palmer. He felt that in order to keep the American values in tact communism had to be out of the picture. Palmer believed that communism was amp;quot;eating its way into the American workman amp;quot;. He thought it was the root of all evils in his society. Palmer felt that communism was amp;quot;seeking to replace marriage vows with libertine laws, burning up the foundations of society amp;quot;. In December of 1919, in their most famous act, Palmer s agents seized 249 resident aliens. Those seized were placed on board a ship, the Buford, bound for the Soviet Union. Deportees included Emma Goldman the feminist, anarchist and writer who later recalled the deportation in her autobiography. Another reason for the Red Scare was the strike held by mine workers. They were thought to be making threatening moves against the Capitalist system through subversive Socialist organizations. These strikes were part of a series of events taking place in 1919. This strike,

With awards totaling south of over seventy total wins and over 100 nominations, the Dark Knight Rises remains to be everything a film needs to be to always remain a timeless classic. The method the team used to overwhelm the world with this immaculate trilogy was to create the last installment as more than just a film, but as a piece of art as well. Many methods were used to reach this profound approach to filmmaking, however it was the brilliant cinematography, the acting that brought the characters to life, and the director s genius ending that transitioned the Dark KnightRises from an ordinary film, into an admired piece of art to all. One of the major reasons for the success of the Dark Knight Rises film is because of its award winning cinematography that the brilliant Mr. Wally Pfister orchestrated throughout the vigorous 3 hour film. Without a doubt, the vividness portrayed from the gritty lightening aids the goal of achieving timeless art through the process of using natural light to depict the different array of natural colors to create beauty. Another method of the brilliant cinematography that this film contains is the directing of the action sequences. Christopher Nolan constructed a scene prop that allows him to film night scenes during the day. This allows him to overexpose the lightening during the actual fighting that gives those

Sebw Case Studies Introduction Premature birth occurs at a time of rapid fetal growth and nutrient accumulation and therefore establishing postnatal nutrition is essential to achieve appropriate growth and maintain biochemical normality. There are significant risks with parentral nutrition like infection, cholestasis, hepatic dysfunction, thinning of gut mucosa and impairment of enzyme production. A delay in reaching full enteral feeding is linked to poor outcome in preterm neonates including postnatal growth restriction and failure to thrive issue especially in extremely low birth weight neonates. An increased length of time to reach full enteral feedings is also significantly associated with a poor mental outcome in preterm neonates at 24 months corrected ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There was also no significant difference observed in the secondary outcome between theto groups. An observational cohort study by Shim et al. reported a significant positive effect on feeding tolerance and sepsis prevention in VLBW infants. The study group achieved full enteral feeding significantly faster than the control group (16 days vs. 22.9 days). Haiden, et al. in a randomized control trial found that repeated daily application of small volume diluted glycerin enemas does not accelerate meconium evacuation and FEF in VLBW infants. Khadr, et al. in a non blinded randomized control trial showed that the median time to full feeds was 1.6 days shorter in the glycerin suppository group however it was not statistically significant. The study concluded that regular glycerin suppositories did not reduce the time to full enteral feeds in infants born at 32 weeks gestation and no significant differences were observed in secondary outcomes like incidence of sepsis, NEC, duration of oxygen requirement, growth or age at discharge. A double blinded RCT by Shinde, et al. concluded that once daily application of glycerin suppository does not accelerate the achievement of full feeds in preterm VLBW neonates. Meconoium retention is believed to result in gastric residuals, distention of abdomen, delayed passage of food possibly by enteroenteric reflexes leading to delayed gastric emptying. The passage of first meconium only reflects the function of terminal bowel and achievement of total meconium evacuation which is delayed in preterm infants also correlate better with feed tolerance. • 43. The Repercussions Of Ignorance In The Chrysalids By John... The Repercussions of Ignorance Martin Luther King said, Nothing in all the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity (Bell). The Chrysalids by John Wyndham is set in the future after an apocalyptic event known as Tribulation, causing a lack of knowledge of the past. The main community, Waknuk, is prejudiced and ignorant. The narrator, David, recalls the unfolding of the dangerous predicament caused by his society s ignorance. In this novel, the author presents that ignorance results in adversity and ultimately, a society s downfall. The Waknukians ignorance creates a hostile environment, causes disagreement, and is the agent of their own defeat. The Waknukians ignorance leads to their abomination of Mutants, creating a very hostile environment. Their ignorance and lack of knowledge cause them to rely on the only remains of the Old People and are used for direction in their lives. When speaking of Nicholson s Repentances David says, Frequent references to these texts had made me familiar with the words long before I was able to read, in fact I am not sure that they did not give me my first reading lessons. I knew them by heart, just as I knew others elsewhere in the house, which said things like: THE NORM IS THE WILL OF GOD (18). This represents the environment that the Waknukians are exposed to early in life, and this is evident when David says that he was familiar with the words long before [he] was able to read. It shows how significant these morals are to the Waknukians, and how in the absence of knowledge, they preach the only things that they know. This creates an image from a young age of what Mutants are like and creates a hostile and antagonistic society. The people of Waknuk are very vigilant because of their upbringing, and what they have been taught is right. David says, People in our district had a very sharp eye for the odd, or the unusual, so that even my left handedness caused slight disapproval (5). This is important because it gives insight into the Waknukians views and opinions, and the mentality of Waknuk becomes clear. It ties into the communities ignorance because they act this way out of scarcity of any other options. They are taught that
