In order to test the psychological and physiological benefits of utilizing yoga as a stress management
technique, I decided to start doing hatha yoga on a daily basis. Hatha yoga is an alternative style of
yoga than emphasizes physical exercise and mental health, with the goal of balancing both aspects in
your life. In a study by Luu and Hall (2017) they found that both hatha yoga and mindfulness in
conjunction saw significantly improved results on both mood and executive functioning (Luu Hall,
2017). I then downloaded Yoga Guru an app that includes hatha style yoga onto my smartphone,
which provides videos and acts as a personal trainer to get started. I spent 20 minutes on day 1
following along to the asanas (poses) and breathing directions in the training videos. Ordinarily, I
struggle with my thoughts wandering to the stressors that inflict pain on my life, which further
promotes rumination and negative affect. I tried to actively focus on the asanas and breathing
technique encouraged in the app, however, because I am starting yoga on my own I have no basis to
know if I am doing the technique correctly. The videos were easy to follow and great for a beginner,
however, some of the asanas do require more flexibility than I expected to be required. Additionally, I
struggled with maintaining the asanas for the total duration of time. Consequently, by the end of this

In 1908, BP was founded under the name Anglo Persian Oil Company. In 1954 they changed their
name to British Petroleum and merged with Amoco in 1998. (BP Public Website, 2010) The Texas
City Refinery is BP s largest and most complex oil refinery... It was owned and operated by Amoco
prior to the merger of BP and Amoco. (Michael P. Broadribb, 2006) Throughout their history, there
have been a number of accidents that have been caused by negligence and disregard of safety
precautions. Unfortunately many lives have been cut short or seriously injured as a result. My research
will focus on the 2005 Texas City Oil Refinery Explosion. I will attempt to look into the ethical
implications that surrounded this disaster before and after the event and suggest what BP could have
done to prevent the incident then and in the future.
What Happened?
On March 23, 2005, at 1:20 pm, the BP Texas City Refinery suffered one of the worst industrial
disasters in recent U.S. history. Explosions and fires killed 15 people and injured another 180, alarmed
the community, and resulted in financial losses exceeding $1.5 billion. (U.S. Chemical Safety and
Hazard Investigation Board, 2007) There are many small and big decisions and oversights that led to
the incident. Underneath all the specific actions or inaction is a blatant disregard for addressing safety

Even though the definition of hero has changed drastically over the years, characters in The Odyssey,
an epic that describes the journey of Odysseus trying to return to his home, Troy, exhibit traits that can

Introduction
In 1817, James Parkinson first described a disease, later to be known as Parkinson s Disease (PD) as a;
neurodegenerative disorder affecting the physical, psychological, social, and functional status of
individuals (Parkinson Society Canada Staff, 1965). In the time since the disease was first described,
the frequency of individuals affected with the disease has increased, with no single cause yet to be
identified as the culprit for the onset of the disease. According to the Parkinson s society Society of
Canada, approximately one hundred thousand Canadians live with this debilitating disease (Parkinson
Society Canada Staff, 1965). Not only has no successful cure for Parkinson s been developed, there
has yet to be any diagnostic tools developed that prove any suredefinite diagnosis (Parkinson Society
Canada Staff, 1965). To this point, Parkinson s is a disease that continues to impact a higher
percentage of the population each year, with no true hope being given to those that struggle with the
impairment. The purpose of this paper is to provide a summary of our knowledge on PD to date,

factors, the signs and symptoms, and finally any known treatments that help to reduce the impairments
