Analysis Of The Movie The Gift
While film is a visual medium, some of the understated elements of cinematic choices are often
overlooked. General audiences are attracted to films due to the choice of actors and a general interest
in the story, but the most complex mechanisms of successful films are rarely spoken of or noticed. The
choice of color scheme, set design, and props, are all various ways in which the director adds their
stamp of creative concept. When all of these components are blended, they create the mood, tone, and
style of the of movie. In this essay, three short films all featuring different locations, characters, and
themes are examined to try and understand why directors pick certain visual undertones and to decide
if they worked in favor or against the overall story. In doing so, this essay hopes to explore the many
ways in which aspiring creatives can add appealing visuals to their work to underline the main theme
and create a better understanding for their audience.
The first film, The Gift, is a quirky if not surreal look at love. Ms. Anderson, A woman in charge of
wrapping gifts in a store, is tasked with wrapping the gift of a local magician and customer, Mr.
Grimm. It is obvious she has feelings for him, and she believes the gift, a family heirloom necklace, is
for another woman. This leads to her spiral, coming to the realization that he does not share the same
feelings. In the end, however, as he leaves, she discovers that he has somehow magically placed the
necklace on her,

Methanol Experiment
Introduction: This practical report is based on the experiment of identifying the two alkanes used in
the alcohols. The aim of this practical was to determine the type of alcohol A and B were by using
their boiling points and the amount of carbons each alcohol had. Hypothesis: If more carbon atoms are
added to an alcohol then the boiling point of the alcohol will be higher. Variables: Independent: The
independent variable of this practical was the type of alcohol. Dependent: The dependent variable of
this practical was the boiling point of the alcohol. Controlled: The controlled variables of this practical
were the amount of alcohol used and the process of boiling the alcohol. Safety: Chemical Risk of

As the number of carbon atoms is increased the boiling point of the alkane is also increased.
Beginning at 1 carbon atom, the boiling point was 164 degrees. As another carbon atom was added,
this boiling point increased. This continued through to 10 carbon atoms which had a boiling point of
174 degrees. In the second graph, it was found that the trend is decreasing. As the number of carbon
atoms is increased the melting point of the alkane decreased. Beginning at 1 carbon atom, the melting
point was 182 degrees. As another carbon atom was added, this melting point decreased. This
continued through to 10 carbon atoms which had a melting point of 30 degrees. Since the two alcohols
used in this practical were Methanol and Propanol, the boiling point of those two alkanes were
focussed on. According to the graph and table, methane had 1 carbon atom and a boiling point of 164
degrees, while propane had 3 carbon atoms and a boiling point of 42 degrees. When testing the boiling
points of these alcohols in the practical experiment, it was found that alcohol A had a boiling point of
68 degrees and alcohol B had a boiling point of 99 degrees. These results proved that methane was
alcohol A and propane was alcohol B. This was determined as alcohol A had a lower boiling compared
to alcohol B. When comparing the boiling point of methane and propane, methane had the lower

The impact of interest rate increasing on real estate market Generally, the increasing of the bank s
interest rate has crowding out effect on the asset bubble. But how does interest rate affect the real
estate market? We can analyze the effect of interest rate increasing on different market entities from
micro perspective.
FOR ONE THAT HAVING BOUGHT THE HOUSE: Monthly payment increases and the assets may
shrink. Most of the housing mortgage loan is floating interest rate now. According to the rules, if the
interest rate increases, the mortgage loan contract which has been signed will use the new interest rate
since the January 1st next year. Assuming the owner has bought a real estate at a price of 1million
RMB by using a 30 year, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the short run, the demand of the house inventory will fall.
FOR DEVELOPER: the interest rate of construction loan increases, the expected price changes. A. It
will decrease the investment scale. For a real estate developer, if it want to develop a project, it should
own some self owned capital to develop, and in order to improve the efficiency of the capital, it will
get some construction loan from the bank.. And as the interest rate increases, the cost of the capital
increases. And the developer has been calculated this cost into the cost of management. If the sale
price unchanged, the profit of the developer falls, and the return on assets follows to decrease. When
the objective return equal or even lower than other industries, to some middle and small entities with
high debt ratio, single financing ways and high management cost may choose to quit, and switch to
other industry. Some may go bankruptcy. To some big entities, they may cut their investment scale on
real estate and increase their investment on other industry of high return so that they can maintain the
previous return on assets. And on the other hand, they will shift this management cost to the sales
price of the house, so the consumption will burden this cost increasing, and they will get little impact.
B. It will decrease the number of the real estate developers. Most of the developers achieve the
indirect financing by loan from bank.. So

The Christmas Holiday From The Federal Calendar
Omitting the Christmas Holiday from the Federal Calendar
The establishment of a legal holiday is best defined as a day where there are no courts, labor, and is a
day of joy and rest. While there should be a separation of church and state, Christmas is considered a
legal holiday and one needs to question the validity of establishing this day as a legal holiday when
one looks at the concept of separation of church and state and considering the diversity we face in
today s modern society.
Christmas in in fact defined as a Holyday. This should not be considered a legal holiday due to the fact
that it is Christian based and we do not have legal holidays that recognize other religions. The United
States does not have a recognized national religion, so Christmas should be separated from legally
recognized holidays.
In the American Law Register the opening paragraph gives an interesting point of view on this matter.
Notwithstanding the distinction drawn by the great American Lexicographer, between a holiday and a
holy day, where by the latter should be used as the proper term for a religious festival, while the
former should rather denote a day of exemption for labor and of amusement, joy and gaiety, the
common impression seems to liken both the holiday and the holyday to the great weekly day of rest
and legal inaction? (Uhle 137)
With cultural diversity being what it is today, and the many different religious traditions that comes of
this, establishing a holyday as a legal

A Complex Adaptive System ( Cas )
Organizations and businesses are now seen as a function of increased specialization. Technology has
become the order of the day where more and more businesses are heading towards that direction to
have a competitive edge within the industry they best identify with. In light of this, conflicts are
sometimes very challenging to comprehend, and theorists have also questioned the nature of the whole
system to which all these complicating factors contribute. Many experts and scholars have argued that
all these developments are characterized by a Complex Adaptive System (CAS). Most organizations
are engulfed in planning activities such as formalized planning sessions that are of a strategic nature
by design and to do this; business leaders tend to look for business intelligence, knowledge
management and other methods that will enable them to have active planning sessions in real time to
match the ever growing system. What then is Complex Adaptive System? To best define CAS, we
need to understand what a system is. A system is defined as an assembly of elements hooked together
to produce a whole in which the attributes of the elements contribute to a behavior of the whole (
Complex Adaptive Systems, n.d.). Examples of systems include the human body, galaxies,
ecosystems, airplanes and computers. CAS is the study of natural systems and how they interact,
adapt, and survive over time (Evans, 2015). By this definition, it is fair to say that organizations
cannot ignore the

Criticism Of Rudali
Rudali is set against the exploitative system where poor people have o escape from their sufffeings.
Rudali is about... how to survive ... bread and mouth . It is a story about the problem of survival in a
rigid patriarchal system Mahasweta Devi exposes this curel and indifferent system. The novella
explicates the various strategies of survival employed by the subaltern individually and as a
community. Even the opening lines of Rudali place the main protagonist Sanichari in a socio
economic context and shows her way to her. She has been a victim of dichotomy where woman is
worshipped as a goddess and whipped as a slave. She is a professional mourner and gradually she
earns to employ the system against her masters who have so far exploited her. The story revolves
around the life of a poor lowcaste village woman who is twice marginalised. She is woman as well as

thre is no hope of release from this system, not evern on death. The burden of ritualized religion, the
absolute power of the malik mahajans, are shown as the controlling agencies of the economic system.
The lower caste villagers become their easy victim. Religion and rituals turn out to be shackles for
them. It is strange that throughout the narrative no character gets any relief and solace from religion.
Sanichari is the best example of how the system oppresses and exploits a poor being. Such people
have no other choice and the picture looks dismal. Whenever there has been a death in her family.
Sanichari has no time to cry and shed tears because she has to make ritual offering after the last rites.

Abstract
Malignant pleural mesothelioma (MPM) is a rare and aggressive type of cancer which originates in the
pleura within the chest cavity. MPM arises due to fibrous minerals exposures such as asbestos and
causes a pleural effusion. Usually thoracoscopy with some histo biochemical tests is needed to
establish the correct diagnosis. The pleural effusion (accumulated fluid) may be due to MPM, Lung
cancer (LC), metastic lung cancer (MLC), benign transudate (BT) or Benign Excaudate (BE). In this

The Electric Kool Aid Acid Test
From what does the self originate? For ages, humans have pondered the nature of their personalities.
Several theories have been presented over the years, One implies that a person s traits are determined
at birth and that one s personality may be ingrained into their very DNA; while another sates that the
environment in which the subject is in affects their characteristics far more than any deep seated traits.
This question, as well as many others, are topics that are brought to exhibition in Tom Wolfe s book
The Electric Kool Aid Acid Test. Set in the late 1960 s, Wolfe tells the true story Ken Kesey and his
band of followers, the Merry Pranksters, who brought the psychedelic drug movement to the forefront

Upon Kesey s return to California, he is greeted in high regard as he is being seen as the leader of this
rising new counter culture movement. He is picked to give seminars on what he is doing and to teach
people how to live in the now. Following their return from the seminars, the Pranksters are raided by
the police and cleaned out of all of their drugs. The following media frenzy cause the group to rise to
prominence of the counter culture movement. It was after this that Kesey befriends the Hell s Angels
motorcycle gang and even begins leading retreats of church leaders. Some begin to think that the
Prankster s movement is mimicking a new religious movement and even begin to refer to Ken as The
Prophet Kesey. Kesey begin hosting Acid Tests which were massive parties where everyone would
take acid and attempt to discover themselves. These became instantly popular and take off

Magenta, turquoise, and auburn glimmered in the ceiling of the refurbished gymnasium as hundreds of
students engulfed the area for the Homecoming dance.
For the preceding months, I had spent numerous hours quarreling with members of the ASB Executive
Council, trying to formulate a plan to diminish the apathy that pervaded our school. The student
morale was at an all time low, and the administration had lost confidence in the ability of ASB to
successfully conduct school events.? As ASB President, I knew that the week of
Homecoming needed to be the pivotal experience that would electrify and regenerate the declining
spirit of Fallbrook High School.

Through cheering voices, the homecoming king and queen were crowned. Pride filled my heart as I
engaged in and conducted this successful event. The homecoming dance was another challenge to
rectify prior sagging attendance. To rectify the situation, ASB established two sites of activities for the
students that necessitated two gyms, one for the dance and the other for the myriad of activities and
food that entertained these eager students. As I stood in the gym with its glittering and shimmering
draperies cascading above the dancing students, I knew my ASB goals had been achieved by this
opulent event. We now earned the respect of our administration and energized our student body, and
made a substantial profit. Clearly, the students at Fallbrook High had lost their lethargy and regained
their commitment to the school.
This experience truly defined who I became and who I am now as a leader. I learned to incorporate
important problem solving skills by working to unify the executive council and the school
administration. Bringing together diverse groups of people to engage in meaningful dialogue to solve
complicated problems taught me valuable people skills. Organizing and executing the dynamic week
of
Homecoming taught me the value of setting high goals and coordinating a multitude of people in order
to accomplish them. These experiences created a new career goal, that of business lawyer. I now have

Hamlet as So Much More Than a Traditional Revenge Tragedy...
Hamlet as So Much More Than a Traditional Revenge Tragedy
Although Shakespeare wrote Hamlet closely following the conventions of a traditional revenge
tragedy, he goes far beyond this form in his development of Hamlet s character. Shakespeare s
exploration of Hamlet s complex thoughts and emotions is perhaps more the focus of the play rather
than that of revenge, thus in Hamlet Shakespeare greatly develops and enhances the form of the
traditional revenge tragedy.
The main source of Hamlet is Saxo Grammaticus Historiae Danicae, a folk tale that has a similar plot
to Hamlet; however, Shakespeare greatly transforms this story of revenge when creating Hamlet.
Shakespeare also draws upon ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The revenge ghost is a convention Kyd took from Seneca s tragedies, and in fact, Don Andrea has
similar parallels to the ghost of Achilles in Seneca s play Troades.
The first appearance of the old king s ghost in the opening scene of Hamlet would have been
suggestive of a revenge tragedy to an Elizabethan audience. However, the ghost does not demand
revenge as Don Andrea does, but rather adds to the uncertainty and sense of foreboding in the scene.
The play begins in a bitter cold night, bringing a sense of pathetic fallacy to the scene, as the setting
adds to the sense of trouble in Denmark, as described by Horatio and Marcellus. It is not until Act I,
Scene V that the ghost appears to Hamlet, demanding revenge [for] his foul and most unnatural
murder, and thus introducing the theme of revenge in Hamlet. Although Hamlet proclaims that [he
will] sweep to [his] revenge, he does not take his revenge until the final scene of the play. Hamlet s
inaction and delay of his revenge is paralleled in The Spanish Tragedy, however the reasons for delay
in Hamlet are somewhat different.

ABNORMAL PSYCHOLOGY: MOOD DISORDERS
A mood disorder is the term given for a group of diagnoses in the DSM IV TR classification system
where a disturbance in the person s emotional mood is hypothesised to be the main underlying feature.
The classification is known as mood (affective) disorders in ICD 10.
English psychiatrist Henry Maudsley proposed an overarching category of affective disorder. The term
was then replaced by mood disorder, as the latter term refers to the underlying or longitudinal
emotional state, whereas the former refers to the external expression observed by others.

UNIPOLAR DISORDERS
Depression without a history of mania
In almost all countries, women are at least twice as likely as men to experience episodes of severe
unipolar depression. Approximately half of people with unipolar depression recover within six weeks
and 90% recover within a year, some without treatment (Kessler, 2002; Kendler et al., 1997).
However, most of them have at least one other episode of depression later on their lives (Boland
Keller, 2002).
The DSM IV TR approach to classifying mood disorders recognizes several subtypes of depression,
placing special emphasis on the distinction between unipolar and bipolar disorders.
Diagnostic Criteria of Major Depressive Disorder
A minimum of five of the following symptoms must be present for at least 2 weeks. Depressed mood
or loss of interest or pleasure must be one of them.
Depressed mood most of the day, nearly every day.
Diminished interest or pleasure in all or almost all activities nearly every day.
Significant weight loss or weight gain.
Insomnia or hypersomnia (excessive sleeping) nearly every day.
Restlessness or lethargy nearly every day.

Financial Statements Paper
Abstract
In this paper I will identify the four basic financial statements, discuss how they are interrelated with
each other, and why they are useful to managers, investors, creditors, and employees.
BALANCE SHEET
A balance sheet provides detailed information about a company s assets, liabilities and shareholders
equity.
Assets are things that a company owns that have value. This usually means they can either be sold or
used by the company to make products or provide services that can be sold. Assets include physical
property, such as plants, trucks, equipment and inventory. Assets also include things that can t be
touched but nonetheless exist and have value, such as trademarks and patents. Cash itself is an asset,
as well as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Small business owners use these statements to find out what areas of their business are over budget or
under budget. Specific items that are causing unexpected expenditures can be pinpointed, such as
phone, fax, mail, or supply expenses. Income statements can also track dramatic increases in product
returns or cost of goods sold as a percentage of sales. They also can be used to determine income tax
liability.
Income statements, along with balance sheets, are the most basic elements required by potential
lenders, such as banks, investors, and vendors. They will use the financial reporting contained therein
to determine credit limits.
STATEMENT OF OWNERS EQUITY (STATEMENT OF RETAINED EARNINGS)
Retained earnings appear on the balance sheet and most commonly are influenced by income and
dividends. The Statement of Retained Earnings therefore uses information from the Income Statement
and provides information to the Balance Sheet.
The Statement of Retained Earnings is a summary of the changes that occurred in the owner s equity
during a specific time period, such as a month or a year. Increases to owner s equity arise from
investments by the owner and from net income earned during the period. Decreases result from owner
withdrawals and from a net loss for the period. Net income or net losses come directly from the
income statement, and owner investments are capital transactions between the business

Children Should Be Mandatory For Children
In 1998 Andrew Wakefield released a paper linking the MMR vaccine to autism. This article caused
panic among parents, leaving a trail of unvaccinated children. This trail eventually lead to a
nationwide outbreak of the measles virus. This is the worst outbreak the US has seen since 1994. Even
though Wakefield s publication has been discredited, there are still parents that choose not to protect
their children because of his study. These children not being vaccinated is hurting our nation by
lowering our herd immunity. It should be mandatory for children to receive vaccines. Children should
be vaccinated because the research is conclusive that vaccines do not cause autism, children benefit
from the vaccines, and help protect others who cannot be medically vaccinated. According to Tafuri,
Martinelli , Prato and Germinario (2011) the anti vaccination movement was started by Andrew
Wakefield in 1998. Wakefield published a paper in the Lancet of a study he conducted of twenty
patients. This published study determined that autism and some forms of colitis were caused by the
MMR vaccine (pg.1). Despite the fact the study has been discredited by medical professionals, and
retracted by the Lancet, parents are still choosing not to vaccinate their children based on these
falsified reports. Newer research reported by CNN as published by the British medical journal
determines Wakefield, misrepresented or altered the medical histories of all 12 of the patients whose

his mind boggling work in the expansive sci fi genre but has also successfully utilized his position in
television and radio to speak out against socialism. During World War II, Serling fought Nazi forces in
Europe. It was there that he realized the true wrongs in the world. Serling understood the world had

Serling s work against socialism is in the ingenious tale of The Shelter, 1961 nuclear war has

this was based on human morals and questioned what man was willing to do for the sake of another
man. Serling lifted the veil of ignorance by giving the gift of awareness. It is in this glorious
achievement that the world can truly see Serling s genius, because when we are made aware of our
mistakes as people, there can be no excuse for what we continue to do. Serling was audacious enough

The Legality of Marijuana
As members of a sophisticated and modern society, to participate in the day to day social life there are
a few things we must act in accordance with. We must follow the natural laws that the societies have
placed in order, and must establish guidelines by understanding their moral and ethical obligations.
They are the foundations of our day to day life. Whether we choose to obey or disobey the norms and
regulations of our social environment is determined by the way we appeal to their distinct morals and
ethics.
There are many ethical situations in our society on which various people have various different
opinions. The legality of marijuana is one such situation in the society regarding the morals and ethics.
It is argued worldwide by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They require accurate measurements of utility. Utilitarianism has to make very strong claims on what
is right and wrong on a very vague concept such as happiness. Utilitarianism may find more use when
determining how a military may provide relief aid to an allied country or determine how much
funding an organization may allocate to any given entity. When the utility is something more concrete
than mental and the idea of benefit is more relative. Utilitarianism would not work in a situation where
a hospital must choose between a child and a celebrity both on the waiting list for a lifesaving organ
transplant.
The two very different philosophical views react differently to the subject of marijuana legalization.
Utilitarianism, for instance, would almost certainly legalize marijuana. This is a simple answer,
because the way that Utilitarianism is laid out, the end goal is the greatest aggregate happiness. In an
ideal Utilitarian world, there would be no laws, limits, or codes, save that everyone should be as happy
as they can be. This may seem too good to be true, as though it would go to far and society would not
be able to recover, but that is not the case. Things that are pleasurable in moderation are not always so
in excess. Some person with Mill s philosophy would only use marijuana if it brought them the
greatest happiness possible. It stands to reason, and indeed Mill elaborates

War Stories
Tim O Brien got his inspiration from multiple instances of his time served in Vietnam. O Brien was
against the war like most of the people in the United States were at the time. He was a college student
looking forward to a different future. Like many others, he received a draft noticed on June 17th,
1968. He felt he was too good to go to war and tried to get out of being drafted with no luck. This
angered him greatly. He was drafted into the U.S. Army where he served in the 3rd Platoon, A CO. 5th
Battalion, 46th Infantry, as a foot soldier. His tour of duty was from 1969 to 1970. The unit he was in
deployed in with went to a part of Vietnam that they called Pinkville . His time in Vietnam gave him,
along with others, many stories to tell.
The Vietnam War was the longest conflict America has been involved in. The main reason for U.S.
involvement in Vietnam was to help stop the spread of communism. The theory at the time was the

Data Compression Essay
Data Compression
I. Introduction
In the modern era known as the Information Age, forms of electronic information are steadily
becoming more important. Unfortunately, maintenance of data requires valuable resources in storage
and transmission, as even the presence of information in storage re quires some power. However,
some of the largest files are those that are in formats re plete with repetition, and thus are larger than
they need to be. The study of data compres sion is the science which attempts to advance toward
methods that can be applied to data in order to make it take up less space. The uses for this are vast,
and algorithms will need to be improved in order to sustain the inevitably larger files of the future.
Thus, I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The chronicle of modern data compression begins in the late 1940 s with a method de signed by
Claude Shannon and Robert Fano, logically named Shannon Fano coding. It takes the frequencies of
the symbols in a file to represent the more recurrent ones using shorter coding. This was improved
upon by one of Fano s students, David Huffman, into an optimal version, and has obsoleted Shannon
Fano coding (except for historical pur poses).
The next step up, arithmetic coding, is similar to, and even better than Huffman coding, but it requires

Essay on Stefan Sagmeister, an Influential Designer
Libby Castellani Holly Vaughn GRA 1109C 17 October 2012 Stefan Sagmeister: An Influential
Designer In today s art world there seems to be a large gap that separates fine art from commercial art.
Often there is a disconnected coldness associated with those who work in communications art and
produce art for clients. As if all emotion and feeling is stripped from commercial artwork merely
because it was created with the intention of pleasing a client. Stefan Sagmeister bridges the gap in the
art industry by redefining commercial design as a personal, emotional, and deep art. While Sagmeister
s work encompasses a vast spectrum of mediums such as, album covers, logos, installations, and
posters it is his philosophy on design that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The poster displays the midsection of Sagmeister s nude body, stretching from the top of his lip all the
way down to where his pubic hair begins. The audacity of his brazen body is accompanied by harsh
lettering that has literally been carved into his skin by his intern with a razorblade (Heller amp;
Vienne, 10). While the broad reception to this poster can be attributed to its shock value, Sagmeister s
self mutilation was a commentary on the absurdity of inking the body with tattoos (Heller amp;
Vienne, 10). The scratches in his body display the details of the lecture as well as Sagmeister s words
pertaining to his philosophy on design, Style=Fart. This philosophy, which he has now put to rest,
translates as his conscious effort to not get wrapped up in fashion statements or trends; design that is
defined by a temporary style is meaningless (Designboom). Sagmeister explains why he relinquished
the philosophy in an interview with Designboom: I discovered that this is simply not true. Through
experience I found that if you have content that is worthwhile the proper expression of that content, in
terms of form and style is actually very important. It can be a very useful tool to communicate that
content (Designboom). Stefan Sagmeister also has two published books under his design belt
(Sagmeister). Made You Look, Sagmeister s first book was published in 2001

Speech On Corruption Of India
THE PLUNDER OF INDIA
Corruption in India is widely spread. India is ranked 85 out of 179 countries in Transparency
International s Corruption Perceptions Index; its score has improved rapidly from 2.7 in 2002 to 3.4 in
2008. It is the one of the main problem facing by India in his way of development. Corruption is not a
recent phenomena it existed in form or another form since immemorial. In various ancient
civilizations it is clearly demonstrated that bribery was a serious problem among the Jews, Chinese,
Japanese, Greeks, Romans as well as Azeets of the modern world. A study done by Transparency

Indian economy has grabbed steam and the Nation has started to be specified in the same class as
China. Also nobody has ascribed the increasing speed of the rate of development to a sudden diminish
in defilement in India. It would be tricky to contend that the level of defilement in India is altogether
not the same as that in Pakistan. Furthermore on the off chance that somebody does contend the case,
it would be of significant enthusiasm to go into the purposes behind the distinction. An exchange of
the reasons for defilement could yield some significant pointers in regards to the measures that could
help lessening its commonness. A centered discourse of defilement would profit from characterizing it
barely as the ill use of open office for private increase. This would recognize it from other criminal
acts like extortion, theft, blackmail and coercion, all of which can be conferred by private people not
holding open office. It would likewise help to consider independently the phenomena of low what s
more abnormal state defilement, separately. Low level defilement (best described as chai paani
corruption) is the thing that the regular resident experiences consistently and what shades his view of
its imperativeness. The social dissatisfactions brought about by needing to circled and pay additional
cash for basically everything can naturally make it appear the Reason for all our issues. Truth be told,
chai paani corruption might not have real negative results for financial development. It constitutes

numerous open authorities are not paid a living compensation and where bureaucratic methods stay
antiquated, bulky and moderate. Its occurrence inexorably reduces with financial development and

One appreciates the recommendation of providing information on restructuring debt to help the

The similarity is notes payable also have fixed maturity dates and carry either a stated or implicit
interest rate (Kieso, Weygandt, amp; Warfield, 2007, p. 685). The difference is notes payable are not
easily tradable. A company reports notes payable in a similar fashion as it does bonds. In reporting a
note payable a company records the note at its face value of its future interest and principal cash
flows. The company amortizes any discount or premium of a note over its life. If a note has no bearing
interest rate the company should report the difference between the face value and the cash received as
a discount on the note. This amount one amortizes over the life of the note to interest expense.
Capital Leases
A company may use capital leases to finance its acquisition of capital assets. In lease financing a
company must met the criteria of the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) on capital leases.
In this a company must record both a liability, and a related asset on its balance sheet. In reporting
capital lease a company reports the lease at its present value of the minimum lease payments. The
company allocates these lease payments using the effective interest method to interest expense. This
allocation using the effective interest method reduces the lease liability of the company.
A company regardless of the type of liability it has must report the interest rate, maturity date, current
interest expense, and future

THE LOST SHEEP, LOST COIN AND LOST SON Essay
During Jesus life he was teaching in many different ways one of them was telling the parables. Parable
is an earthly story with the heavenly meaning. That means that Jesus was making up a story in which
there would be a real people, working of doing something that was common at that times. Sometimes
he used the values whether material or spiritual, that were valuable in old times. So he was making
everything to make the story look more realistic. But under the close of the poor man or woman and
under the animal or a subject there was always something mach more complicated, something about
his father, himself, and the people that were following the God or not. Jesus was telling the parable

And another is to understand a parable like an old story about the God helping the people mentally or
something like that. When you are reading the parable about The Lost Coin for the first time, the
meaning of it might look like that to you. The woman had 10 coins and she lost one them she tried to
find it really hard, she spend a lot of time searching for it with the lamp and when she finally found
the coin she was so happy. She is so poor and god helped her to find it. God is a good person because
he helps poor people might be your conclusion. Yes the God is good. But the main topic, main idea, of
the parable is deeply inside. By the character of a woman Jesus meant himself. By the lost coin he
meant a lost person or sinner. The friends and neighbors were probably mentioned there as an Angels.
The main thing there is the house: very dark, lit only by one circular 18 inch window. The floor was
packed dirt, covered by dry reeds and rushes. 2 that represents the Earth. From the Bible we can see
that the lamp was needed to search for a small coin in the house, even in the daytime. That means that
Jesus needed something to search, for lost people , something bright and important like fire. And that
something had to be the Kingdom of Good. In the old days the coin that the woman lost was called
drachma, which was equal to the Roman denarius, and worth about 20 cents today. However, it had

Tenochtitlan Fall DBQ
The first reason that best explains why Tenochtitlan fell is manipulation because the Aztecs thought
Cortes was their god but he wasn t. Cortes manipulated the Aztecs for they can think he is their god
and let him inside the empire. This was clear in document 1 when it states For a while, the Aztecs saw
Cortés as the reincarnation of their god Quetzalcoatl, a fact which Cortés used to great advantage.
(Anglin Hamblin, 1993). This evidence shows how Cortes used Aztecs belief to his advantage. The
Aztecs were so shocked that they didn t fight back. This allowed Cortes to strengthen his position to
better take over. This is important to our understanding of how Tenochtitlan fell because If Cortes

This was made clear in document 5 when The sick were so helpless that they could only lie on their
beds like corpses, unable to move their limbs or even their heads...a great many died from this plague,
and many others died of hunger. ( Bernardino, 1545). This evidence shows how the smallpox affected
the Aztecs. It affected them by not being able to move so this means they couldn t get up to find food
or fight. Many died because of the disease and others by hunger. This is important to our
understanding of how tenochtitlan fell because the Aztecs were weak and they could not train to fight.
They couldn t even get up their bed because they were so sick and they could not move. A lot of them
died because no one could take care of them. Since they were not able to fight Cortes had a chance of
going again and destroying them with not problem. This was also made clear in in document 6 when
200,000 died of the disease, and twice that number were seriously sickened......It also robbed the
Aztecs of the will (determination) to fight because they were convinced the disease was the wrath of
the white man s god or a form of witchcraft. (Weir, 2009). This evidence shows how many people died
and how many people got sick. It also says that they were weak to fight. The disease killed many
people. This is important to our understanding of how Tenochtitlan fell because they were not able to
fight. Also 200,000 die and 400,000 got sick which meant there will be less people in the empire. In
summary disease led to the fall of Tenochtitlan because the Aztecs were weak and couldn t train. With
the death of all those people the empire turn smaller. Therefore the Spanish got the chance to

Reflective Essay Work
When it comes to work, most of my work is comprised of personal projects or school work I don t
have a job in the sense of something that will make me money. I work best when i am told exactly
what my tasks will be and when I have to do them. I can do self directed work, but it is harder for me.
I think it s because when there is someone who is telling me that a certain task is essential, I am afraid
of what will happen if I don t meet the deadline, whereas I don t scare myself as much. As for the the
specific kinds of work I like to do, I enjoy working with both my hands and my mind equally. I don t
enjoy super labor intensive jobs, but I like jobs where I still get to create something. That said, I also
need proof that what I am doing is actually productive, and worth something. What I make does not
have to be a physical object, but I wouldn t be able to stand a job where I know what I do might not
even be used. I do not have an official job. All of the work that I have done has either been for school
or for myself, and a lot of my personal projects are writing or art based, since I want them to lead
directly into practicing skills for a possible future career. These things might not be considered work,
but they are still productive, and the fact that I have thought about how these activities might lead into
a future career might suggest that I have thought about how much effort and time getting and working
at that career will take. In fact, I have both over and

Unfortunately, my office setting does not vary from those classic lyrics. The text calls the grapevine

The interesting part of the grapevine that is particularly applicable to the situation I described is that
rumors emerge as a response to situations that are important to us, when there is ambiguity, and under
conditions that around anxiety, (Robbins Judge, 2009). The mid shift change of staff announcement
was particularly ill timed because the project was not approved, nor were dates set for the approval;
the pilot project announcement was ambiguous. This set a motion for anxiety. The common theme

many people speculating who was being fired. This rumor was damaging not only to my co workers

Essay On Education In The Middle Ages
The Middle Ages occurred when the eastern world seemed to have plummeted into an age of
regression and darkness. It consisted of the period between 500 and 1500 A.D, and it happened after
the fall of the Roman Empire. During this time, education was seemingly forgotten. Many people
believed that education was not an important factor during the Middle Ages, but they were wrong.
According to the article Medieval Women , Education back then was very important, so much that
even some women were admitted to learn how to read and write ( Medieval Women ). It is important
to know that in the Middle Ages most of the people were not able to go to school. As explained by the
historian, John Simkin In 1330 only about 5% of the population could read or write. It was extremely
rare for peasants to be literate. Some lords of the manor had laws banning serfs from being educated
(Simkin). It was usually only the sons from rich families that went to school. During the Middle Ages,
there were some important aspects in Education such as types of schools, methods for courses, and
rejection of women for school.

The Horrible And Gruesome Events Of The Holocaust
The author of Night, a novel documenting the horrible and gruesome events of the holocaust, Elie
Wiesel expresses his experiences and observations in which he and his fellow Jews were dehumanized
while living in concentration camps (a hell on earth). All Jews, as a race were brutalized by the Nazis
during this time; reducing them to no less than objects, positions which meant nothing to them,
belongings that were a nuisance. Nazis would gather every Jew that they could find and bring them to
these infernos, separating the men and women. Families, not knowing it would never see each other
again. Individuals within the categories were divided even more, based on their health, strength, and
age. They would be judged by a Nazi officer, which would then decide their fate, if they would have
the opportunity to live or if they would be sentenced strait to execution. In these camps, babies
became target practice, being tossed in the air like an object with no significant value and shot at with
no remorse. The more mature could be sentenced to execution, tossed into pits of fire while fully
conscious burning them alive. In addition, the ones who passed inspection received treatment as if
they were slaves and dogs, making them follow any command, any disobeying of these demands
would consequence them to be shot without hesitation. These dehumanizing crimes were the
punishments forced on the Jewish race by the Nazi influence, turning Jewish nationality into a

Essay On The Governess In The Turn Of The Screw By Henry...
Henry James was a prominent figure in Victorian Era literature known for his attention to conscious
perception and ambiguous writing. Because of the mystery shrouding his works, people have become
adept at reading between the lines and filling in his plot holes with their own inferred ideas. His book
The Turn of the Screw is one of his most vague and intriguing pieces and has therefore been a subject
of much conflict among critics. Of all possible theories, most boil down to the reliability of the
governess; is she telling the truth, or has she gone insane? Given James background living with a

Acetaminophen Theory
Description of Disease and Underlying theory
Acetaminophen, once ingested into the body is rapidly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract into the
blood stream where it reaches peak plasma concentration in as little as half an hour. Here, it circulates
around the body for a period of up to 4 hours during which it produces its analgesic and antipyretic
effects before the acetaminophen is metabolised and deactivated by the liver by a possible 3 pathways:
Glucuronidation, sulfation and oxidation (Show below in Figure 2). The most commonly used
pathway is the glucuronidation metabolism, closely followed by the sulfation pathway. These methods
of metabolism deactivate the acetaminophen in the hepatocytes into non toxic conjugated sulphate and
glucuronide which are excreted in the urine [23] [24]. The majority of the initially ingested therapeutic
dosage is metabolised this way, with the remaining acetaminophen being metabolised via the third
hepatic cytochrome P45 oxidase pathway, primarily by the enzyme CYP2E1 [25]. When
acetaminophen is metabolised via this method, a small amount of a highly reactive toxic intermediate

The Theories Of The Typology Of Serial Killers
A serial killer is a person who commits a series of murders, often with no apparent motive and
typically following a characteristic or predictable behavior pattern. Theories on Serial Killers Holmes
and DeBurger (1998) specified the typology of serial killers and expressed this typology into four
distinct categories: Visionary killers are categorized as being out of touch with reality and are noted as
hearing voices in their head Mission oriented serial killers, state that their life s mission is to kill
certain kinds of people Hedonistic killers gain their thrills from the joy of the act and these are the
majority of serial killers Power/control killers seek more satisfaction through bloodlust and having
complete control over their victims (Walsh) Law enforcement and social scientists have often tried to
assess serial killers who have been caught in order to better understand their reasons for acting violent.
Since serial killers have a definitive personality profile. Some serial killers share the same behaviors
such as; wetting the bed and wanting to start fires. While these reasons are not associated with all
serial killers, there has been a tendency for these traits to be present in the majority of serial killers
that have been studies. Social science has discovered that about 90% of serial killers are Caucasian
males. These individuals are most times very smart. Serial killers usually come from dysfunctional
families, or have had one parent abandon them at an early age. Psychological analysis has reasoned
that this dysfunction or abandonment has caused many individuals to commit criminal acts. Female
Serial Killers Female serial killers have been discovered by going by significant data to killer for
money or pure excitement as opposed to their male counterparts who have other reasons for killing.
Poison is usually seen to be a common technique used by female serial killers. Female serial killers
also have been shown to have longer careers as murderers than males and they typically carefully plan
their crimes through a methodical process. Kelleher and Kelleher (1998) in a study on serial killers
selected seven different categories for women who kill: Black widow Angel of death Revenge killer

Analysis Of The Noachian Flood Deluge
I am arguing that the Noachian Flood Deluge as depicted in the biblical book of Genesis is a fable,
with no basis in reality. My opponent is required to be a creationist who believes in a worldwide flood.
He can not however, just ignore problems and say that God did it. He can t used faith as a justification
for belief, and must prove it with evidence. Of course, positive claims require positive evidence, and
that is what I expect.
Meteorology and Thermodynamics
Leonard G. Soroka and Charles L. Nelson in their Physical Constraints on the Noachian Deluge
examined four separate methods for flood waters, being rain, hypothermic springs, and two types of
cometary impact. None of them work, due to excessive energy and heat.
Rainfall Model
The amount of water presently in the oceans is about 1.37 billion cubic kilometers, and to cover all the
high mountains of the earth would require 4.4 billion additional cubic kilometers or approximately 3
times the amount of water present in the oceans. Not only would this make the air unbreathable due to
it being 99.9% water vapor, atmospheric pressure being 840 times what it is now. Then take the latent
heat of vaporization, when a kilogram of water vapor condenses and 2.26 million joules of energy are
released. This is what powers thunderstorms and hurricanes. Condensing 4.4 billion cubic kilometers
would create 10^26 joules of energy, making the planet 3500 degrees C, temporarily making the
planet the second hottest object in the solar

and composition of the minerals and elements in the plates.
Story:
To start on our journey Jay and I started out towards magnetic north using our GPS (global positioning
system) on a beautiful mountain in the great state of Hawaii. You don t realize how beautiful nature
and the world is until you get out and experience it with your own eyes. To even think that magnetic
reversals can happen at any given time and change the way we would be headed on the mountain is
insane. The Curie point can show why the magnetic field changes. The ... Show more content on

Jay and I look into the sky again but this time thinking about how far away we are from the Sun we
are from here on Earth. The Titius Bode relationship helps us learn how the spacing is possible in
which it is all mathematical. Spacing wise, if one were to stand on the sun and measure the distance to
each planet in the Milky Way Galaxy, someone would find that each planet would be almost twice as
far from the sun as the planet before. All of the planets orbiting the sun are rotating in a ecliptic which
is a oval shaped invisible ring that each planet has and follows. When Earth was still forming, the iron
catastrophe took place, making the material Earth would be made of turn into a spherical mass.
Ultimately, the earth is made of a hot iron core and the outer shell of the Earth is called the
lithosphere, also known as the crust or, that conveys many different things. As Jay and I walk slowly
up the mountain, climbing the so called lithosphere, we think about why we have different types of
hydrogen atoms. Some hydrogen atoms are safe like the hydrogen in water but others can be lethal
like in hydrogen bomb. This thought can be backed up with the research that the same element can
have a different number of neutrons in their nucleus and with those radioactive elements they are
called unstable isotopes. The weight of one of these atoms is calculated by mols. To calculate mols,

The British Army
The British Army during the American War of Independence served for eight years in battles fighting
around the globe. Imprisonment at the Siege of Yorktown with a recipe of France and US force
eventually led to the loss of the Thirteen Colonies in eastern North America Not only that, the Treaty
of Paris robbed Britain many of the profits attained in the Seven Years War. However several victories
in other places meant that much of the British Empire remained unbroken. The army suffered because
of deficiency of peace spent and useless enlistment in that period since the Seven Years War. These
circumstances had left it in a wrecked state at the burst of war in North America. To counterbalance
the British, the government ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A lot of the early training was found to be insufficient, with officers unsure how to use light
companies. In 1772, General George Townshend wrote Instructions, and Training and Equipping of
the new Light Companies that was distributed to troops on the Irish founding and offered a hands on
guide for training light companies and assistance for tactics. Townshend also introduced a new
communication method for light bob officers when in control of carelessly positioned troops. By
whistling different signals, it would specify an action. In 1774 William Howe wrote the Manual for
Light Foot soldiers Drill and made an investigational Light Foot soldier s squad training at Salisbury
camp. This then became the outline for all regular light foot soldiers helping in North America. Howe
s system varied in that it fixated on development composite squadrons of light foot soldiers more
appropriate to large scale group of soldiers in North America, rather than individual

Emily Dickinson s Tell All the Truth but Tell It Slant ...
An explication of Emily Dickinson s Tell all the Truth but tell it slant brings to light the overwhelming
theme of how one should tell the truth. It also illuminates the development of the extended metaphor
of comparing truth to light. From the very beginning of the poem, the speaker is instructing on the best
way to tell the truth. Dickinson, through a use of a specific technique of rhyming, literary elements,
and different forms of figurative language, establishes the importance of not telling the truth all at
once. Alliteration is a key aspect to how the reader experiences the poem; it especially gives interest
toward alliteration of the letter T. This alliteration begins in the very first line Tell all the Truth but tell

Dickinson is by no means stating that we should keep the truth completely hidden; however, she is
quickly asserting her opinion of how the truth needs to be told. In telling the truth one must slant or
hold back from embellishing all of the details of that particular truth. The ensuing line, Success in
Circuit lies (1.2), parallels the first lines slant with a curvature of a circuit. A circuit goes perfectly
around an area eventually returning back to the same spot. Dickinson conveys that only certain details
should be let out, eventually giving you the truth as a whole. Also the words chosen in this line seem
have reason to be grouped together. The word lies (1.2) is paired within a sentence with the word
Success (1.2), giving the connection that lies may be needed to obtain success. The poem is trying to
point out that truth and lies both can become truth, if they are presented in the correct circuit. The third
line, Too bright for our infirm Delight (1.3), uses a metaphor to compare truth to light. This metaphor
is full of imagery, associating truth to something that stimulates one s sense of sight. Something that is
too bright hurts the eyes, thus the metaphor conveys that telling the truth in its entirety can at times be
painful. Finally, the last line of this stanza, The Truth s superb surprise (1.4), personifies the truth as
having the ability to give a surprise. A

Compare And Contrast The Landlady And Lamb To The Slaughter
In stories, The Tell Tale Heart by Edgar Allen Poe, The Landlady and Lamb to the Slaughter both by
Roald Dahl, ideas of guilt and sanity prevail. In these short stories, the lack of guilt and insanity create
a mental state which not only allows them to commit their crimes but also to do so without remorse.
Poe uses close description and large amounts of figurative language to bring through the ideas of trust,
insanity, lack of guilt and perfect crimes . In contrast, Roald Dahl uses other figurative language
techniques such as juxtaposition and foreshadowing.
In all three horror stories Roald Dahl and Poe explore the lack of guilt. There are direct references to
the lack of guilt in The Tell Tale Heart and Lamb To The Slaughter. In addition to

The Biography Of Adam Smith
The Biography of Adam Smith Adam Smith was born in Kirkcaldy, Scotland in the year 1923, and
died in the year 1790 at the age of 67 (Stewart, 1861). His exact date of birth is unknown but was
baptized on 5th June 1723. His father was a prosecutor, advocate, and solicitor but passed on two
months after his birth, leaving his mother to bring him up. His mother, Margaret Douglas, played a
great role in his upbringing, especially in education. He joined the Burgh school where he learned
history, writing, Latin and mathematics. He went to the University of Glasgow at the age of 14 where
he studied moral philosophy; he also established his passion for reason, free speech and liberty
(Stewart, 1861). In 1740, he entered Balliol College, Oxford where he undertook his postgraduate
studies and became the first student to gain from the scholarship of John Snell. Conversely, his studies
at Balliol College, Oxford did not contribute a lot towards his lifework as compared to his studies at
Glasgow University (Stewart, 1861). His professional life began in 1748 when he began giving
lectures in Edinburgh with the approval of Lord Kames. He met with David Hume in 1750 who
remained one of his closest friends and source of influence in his professional life. Doors opened for
him and in 1751, he was appointed as the professor of logic at Glasgow University and reassigned to
the chair of moral philosophy in 1752. At this time, his lectures included the field of political
economy, rhetoric,

Analysis Of Carline Hawthorne s The Great Gatsby
It was a brutally cold night in the Alps .The cold felt as if it was seeping through the walls and floors
and was pressing every one closer to the fire. The family had not been on the best of terms in the
recent months and needed time together. Carline Hawthorne, the mother, was the wealthiest member
of the family. Her business start up was a massive success and she was one of the wealthiest women in
Great Britain. In the recent months, Carline had caught her husband Neville , cheating on multiple
occasions. The unfortunate truth for her was that she was still deeply in love with him and was hoping
to make the marriage work. The vacation, which the detective learned later, was in hopes that the
family could bond and prevent further ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This mood continued for weeks before Carline began to get suspicious. She decided to stay home from
work and spy on him. Carline waited until Neville left the house, then tailed him until he reached his
destination. This was where she learned the dreadful truth. Neville was seeing another woman.
Unfortunately, Carline couldn t tell who this other woman was, but it didn t much matter. She rushed
home and started crying. She believed with all her heart that this was the end of their marriage.
Carline was searching and grasping for any positivity in that moment and realized that it didn t
necessarily mean the death of their marriage. She could make it work. SHe did some quick research
and found a great getaway to the alps where they could talk everything over and, hopefully, save their
marriage. Because money wasn t an issue, she rented a charter plane for the next day to fly to Austria.
She told her husband when he returned home and it started a dispute. Carline told him that she knew
he was cheating and needed this vacation. He accepted, but it was clearly forced. Carline, Neville,
James, and her assistant all flew to Austria the next day. When they arrived at her cottage, she was
astonished by the surreal view. The family unpacked and they went out to the town. They returned
home late and quickly realized the needed to start a fire. The family went to sleep shortly after. The
next day, Carline reserved seats for her, her family, and

Heroism In Hamlet
The Tragedy of Hamlet, Prince of Denmark, often shortened to Hamlet, is a tragedy written by
William Shakespeare at an uncertain date between 1599 and 1602. Set in the Kingdom of Denmark,
the play dramatises the revenge Prince Hamlet is instructed to enact on his uncle Claudius. Claudius
had murdered his own brother, Hamlet s father King Hamlet, and subsequently seized the throne,
marrying his deceased brother s widow, Hamlet s mother Gertrude.
Hamlet is Shakespeare s longest play and among the most powerful and influential tragedies in
English literature, with a story capable of seemingly endless retelling and adaptation by others. The
play seems to have been one of Shakespeare s most popular works during his lifetime It has inspired
writers from Goethe and Dickens to Joyce and Murdoch, and has been described as the world s most
filmed story after Cinderella .
The story of Hamlet ultimately derives from the legend of Amleth, preserved by 13th century
chronicler Saxo Grammaticus in his Gesta Danorum, as subsequently retold by ... Show more content

Written in Latin, it reflects classical Roman concepts of virtue and heroism, and was widely available
in Shakespeare s day. Significant parallels include the prince feigning madness, his mother s hasty
marriage to the usurper, the prince killing a hidden spy, and the prince substituting the execution of
two retainers for his own. A reasonably faithful version of Saxo s story was translated into French in
1570 by François de Belleforest, in his Histoires tragiques. Belleforest embellished Saxo s text
substantially, almost doubling its length, and introduced the hero s

In one sudden movement, I found myself lying down. From what had once been a still and
contemplative stare forward, I suddenly had no recollection of how I landed with my eyes observing
upwards with my head at a ninety degree angle from the ground. I became aware of how finely cut the
edges of the Drakensburg wild grass were, as they sliced through the thick hair on my head and legs,
pushing eagerly towards my scalp and skin, pulling me further into the ground, returning me. I became
aware of how unstable the ground was as it bubbled and flowed past the bends and protrusions of my
spine, preparing to split beneath me and return me. I became aware of how silent the air was as I
listened for a voice of consolation but was met with the wallowing of daggered winds. I noticed the
sky above me. Too soon yet too late, I was holstered from my daze and told to return.
Eyes widened. Pupils dilated. Shivering. Wincing. I tried to squirm. I tried to scream. As I gazed at the
ephemeral blackness, extending past the reaches of my peripheral vision, I found the three burning
balls on Orion s Belt. There they were. They must have been real. For a few metres to the right a
perfectly spaced constellation in the shape of a repulsively large woman beamed. She looked right at

The As A Night Creature
Firefly The stars were exceptionally bright as I strolled along one of the many paths that led into the
local park. The public gardens consisted of a small wooded area, lined with fragrant flowerbeds,
dotted with the occasional willow tree. Here one would find an oasis within an urban sprawl. Trees
bordered the natural area like a green palisade, keeping at bay the city s chaos and neon lights. One
might forget the city even existed. Only the park lights and the blinking glow of fireflies cast any
illumination at all. To a mortal, all was quiet. A mortal could not see the night creatures making their

Their signals created a lovely dance of alien starlight cast adrift in the inky night. I could smell the
summer flowers like a heady perfume, mixed with the scent of blood. I ignore the smell of animals.
Their blood, though sweet and thick, simply couldn t slack my thirst as the blood of human could.
There was also the thrill of the hunt, to stalk and subdue my victims. Blood was my usual fare, but
occasionally I feasted on flesh if my appetite called for it. Sometimes I would drain my victims dry,
with others I took a drink and finished their life in some other way. I relished the skill of the hunter,
practically gloried in my ability to kill. As I headed to the more secluded end of the city park, I found
her sitting on a blanket near a clearing. She was a young thing, with honey blond hair, and pale skin
that reflected the dimming sky. She sat on the outstretched blanket in a clearing watching the night.
Knees drew up against her chest, her legs shrouded in a floral print dress. I caught the whiff of her
scent like a bee to honey. As I approached, I noticed she held a small penlight one might find on a
keychain. Every minute or so, she flashed the light two times. This was curious behavior. I paused in
my advancement to see the fireflies descend on her open hand. The insect explored her open palm
until wing cases extended and flew away. I had to get closer. We were still in a public place where

Essay On Female Oppression In The Yellow Wallpaper
The Yellow Wallpaper : The Epidemic of Female Oppression
Neurasthenia is a medical condition characterized by lassitude, fatigue, headache, and irritability,
associated chiefly with emotional disturbance. The disorder can cause tiredness, fatigue, and extreme
stress or anxiety leading to oppression of a being. Oppression causes the separation of oneself from
society due to large amounts of anxiety. In the story The Yellow Wallpaper , the protagonist is
suffering from an illness that is said to be cured by her moving away from society and living in the
country for a few months with her husband. The short story is written by a nineteenth century feminist
Charlotte Perkins Gilman, who relates to the protagonist because she also feels the ... Show more

She doesn t say how old the child is but still addresses it as a baby, but being separated from the baby
is ideal especially due to her illness. Her being placed in an old nursery often will give her thoughts on
how she wants to hold the baby and how she misses her child. All of the action and suspense of the
story arises within the four walls of the narrator s bedroom, a former nursery and playroom with bars
on its window (Miskolcze 3). This can be showing that women are forced to take care of children and
that s all they can do. The irony of her being placed in a nursery shows that women are always taking
care of something in the nursey. The nursery is described much like a prison with bars on the windows
and the bed is also nailed to the ground and impossible to move. The narrator spends most of her time
in this room because she is usually in bed and this is a big cause for her breakdown due to the ugly
wall paper. She hates the wall paper; it infuriates her. The paper is a weird yellow color and has a very
ugly pattern. The wallpaper later symbolizes her oppression and is eventually torn down representing
her breaking through and fighting it

  • 2. Analysis Of The Movie The Gift While film is a visual medium, some of the understated elements of cinematic choices are often overlooked. General audiences are attracted to films due to the choice of actors and a general interest in the story, but the most complex mechanisms of successful films are rarely spoken of or noticed. The choice of color scheme, set design, and props, are all various ways in which the director adds their stamp of creative concept. When all of these components are blended, they create the mood, tone, and style of the of movie. In this essay, three short films all featuring different locations, characters, and themes are examined to try and understand why directors pick certain visual undertones and to decide if they worked in favor or against the overall story. In doing so, this essay hopes to explore the many ways in which aspiring creatives can add appealing visuals to their work to underline the main theme and create a better understanding for their audience. The first film, The Gift, is a quirky if not surreal look at love. Ms. Anderson, A woman in charge of wrapping gifts in a store, is tasked with wrapping the gift of a local magician and customer, Mr. Grimm. It is obvious she has feelings for him, and she believes the gift, a family heirloom necklace, is for another woman. This leads to her spiral, coming to the realization that he does not share the same feelings. In the end, however, as he leaves, she discovers that he has somehow magically placed the necklace on her, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Methanol Experiment Introduction: This practical report is based on the experiment of identifying the two alkanes used in the alcohols. The aim of this practical was to determine the type of alcohol A and B were by using their boiling points and the amount of carbons each alcohol had. Hypothesis: If more carbon atoms are added to an alcohol then the boiling point of the alcohol will be higher. Variables: Independent: The independent variable of this practical was the type of alcohol. Dependent: The dependent variable of this practical was the boiling point of the alcohol. Controlled: The controlled variables of this practical were the amount of alcohol used and the process of boiling the alcohol. Safety: Chemical Risk of Methanol: Methanol is highly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As the number of carbon atoms is increased the boiling point of the alkane is also increased. Beginning at 1 carbon atom, the boiling point was 164 degrees. As another carbon atom was added, this boiling point increased. This continued through to 10 carbon atoms which had a boiling point of 174 degrees. In the second graph, it was found that the trend is decreasing. As the number of carbon atoms is increased the melting point of the alkane decreased. Beginning at 1 carbon atom, the melting point was 182 degrees. As another carbon atom was added, this melting point decreased. This continued through to 10 carbon atoms which had a melting point of 30 degrees. Since the two alcohols used in this practical were Methanol and Propanol, the boiling point of those two alkanes were focussed on. According to the graph and table, methane had 1 carbon atom and a boiling point of 164 degrees, while propane had 3 carbon atoms and a boiling point of 42 degrees. When testing the boiling points of these alcohols in the practical experiment, it was found that alcohol A had a boiling point of 68 degrees and alcohol B had a boiling point of 99 degrees. These results proved that methane was alcohol A and propane was alcohol B. This was determined as alcohol A had a lower boiling compared to alcohol B. When comparing the boiling point of methane and propane, methane had the lower ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Environmental Analysis of Starbucks The impact of interest rate increasing on real estate market Generally, the increasing of the bank s interest rate has crowding out effect on the asset bubble. But how does interest rate affect the real estate market? We can analyze the effect of interest rate increasing on different market entities from micro perspective. FOR ONE THAT HAVING BOUGHT THE HOUSE: Monthly payment increases and the assets may shrink. Most of the housing mortgage loan is floating interest rate now. According to the rules, if the interest rate increases, the mortgage loan contract which has been signed will use the new interest rate since the January 1st next year. Assuming the owner has bought a real estate at a price of 1million RMB by using a 30 year, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the short run, the demand of the house inventory will fall. FOR DEVELOPER: the interest rate of construction loan increases, the expected price changes. A. It will decrease the investment scale. For a real estate developer, if it want to develop a project, it should own some self owned capital to develop, and in order to improve the efficiency of the capital, it will get some construction loan from the bank.. And as the interest rate increases, the cost of the capital increases. And the developer has been calculated this cost into the cost of management. If the sale price unchanged, the profit of the developer falls, and the return on assets follows to decrease. When the objective return equal or even lower than other industries, to some middle and small entities with high debt ratio, single financing ways and high management cost may choose to quit, and switch to other industry. Some may go bankruptcy. To some big entities, they may cut their investment scale on real estate and increase their investment on other industry of high return so that they can maintain the previous return on assets. And on the other hand, they will shift this management cost to the sales price of the house, so the consumption will burden this cost increasing, and they will get little impact. B. It will decrease the number of the real estate developers. Most of the developers achieve the indirect financing by loan from bank.. So ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Christmas Holiday From The Federal Calendar Omitting the Christmas Holiday from the Federal Calendar The establishment of a legal holiday is best defined as a day where there are no courts, labor, and is a day of joy and rest. While there should be a separation of church and state, Christmas is considered a legal holiday and one needs to question the validity of establishing this day as a legal holiday when one looks at the concept of separation of church and state and considering the diversity we face in today s modern society. Christmas in in fact defined as a Holyday. This should not be considered a legal holiday due to the fact that it is Christian based and we do not have legal holidays that recognize other religions. The United States does not have a recognized national religion, so Christmas should be separated from legally recognized holidays. In the American Law Register the opening paragraph gives an interesting point of view on this matter. Notwithstanding the distinction drawn by the great American Lexicographer, between a holiday and a holy day, where by the latter should be used as the proper term for a religious festival, while the former should rather denote a day of exemption for labor and of amusement, joy and gaiety, the common impression seems to liken both the holiday and the holyday to the great weekly day of rest and legal inaction? (Uhle 137) With cultural diversity being what it is today, and the many different religious traditions that comes of this, establishing a holyday as a legal ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. A Complex Adaptive System ( Cas ) Organizations and businesses are now seen as a function of increased specialization. Technology has become the order of the day where more and more businesses are heading towards that direction to have a competitive edge within the industry they best identify with. In light of this, conflicts are sometimes very challenging to comprehend, and theorists have also questioned the nature of the whole system to which all these complicating factors contribute. Many experts and scholars have argued that all these developments are characterized by a Complex Adaptive System (CAS). Most organizations are engulfed in planning activities such as formalized planning sessions that are of a strategic nature by design and to do this; business leaders tend to look for business intelligence, knowledge management and other methods that will enable them to have active planning sessions in real time to match the ever growing system. What then is Complex Adaptive System? To best define CAS, we need to understand what a system is. A system is defined as an assembly of elements hooked together to produce a whole in which the attributes of the elements contribute to a behavior of the whole ( Complex Adaptive Systems, n.d.). Examples of systems include the human body, galaxies, ecosystems, airplanes and computers. CAS is the study of natural systems and how they interact, adapt, and survive over time (Evans, 2015). By this definition, it is fair to say that organizations cannot ignore the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is a story about the problem of survival in a rigid patriarchal system Mahasweta Devi exposes this curel and indifferent system. The novella explicates the various strategies of survival employed by the subaltern individually and as a community. Even the opening lines of Rudali place the main protagonist Sanichari in a socio economic context and shows her way to her. She has been a victim of dichotomy where woman is worshipped as a goddess and whipped as a slave. The burden of ritualized religion, the absolute power of the malik mahajans, are shown as the controlling agencies of the economic system. The lower caste villagers become their easy victim. Religion and rituals turn out to be shackles for them. It is strange that throughout the narrative no character gets any relief and solace from religion. Sanichari is the best example of how the system oppresses and exploits a poor being. Such people have no other choice and the picture looks dismal. Whenever there has been a death in her family. • 9. The Electric Kool Aid Acid Test From what does the self originate? For ages, humans have pondered the nature of their personalities. Several theories have been presented over the years, One implies that a person s traits are determined at birth and that one s personality may be ingrained into their very DNA; while another sates that the environment in which the subject is in affects their characteristics far more than any deep seated traits. This question, as well as many others, are topics that are brought to exhibition in Tom Wolfe s book The Electric Kool Aid Acid Test. Magenta, turquoise, and auburn glimmered in the ceiling of the refurbished gymnasium as hundreds of students engulfed the area for the Homecoming dance. For the preceding months, I had spent numerous hours quarreling with members of the ASB Executive Council, trying to formulate a plan to diminish the apathy that pervaded our school. The student morale was at an all time low, and the administration had lost confidence in the ability of ASB to successfully conduct school events.? To rectify the situation, ASB established two sites of activities for the students that necessitated two gyms, one for the dance and the other for the myriad of activities and food that entertained these eager students. As I stood in the gym with its glittering and shimmering draperies cascading above the dancing students, I knew my ASB goals had been achieved by this opulent event. We now earned the respect of our administration and energized our student body, and made a substantial profit. Clearly, the students at Fallbrook High had lost their lethargy and regained their commitment to the school. This experience truly defined who I became and who I am now as a leader. I learned to incorporate important problem solving skills by working to unify the executive council and the school administration. Bringing together diverse groups of people to engage in meaningful dialogue to solve complicated problems taught me valuable people skills. Hamlet as So Much More Than a Traditional Revenge Tragedy Although Shakespeare wrote Hamlet closely following the conventions of a traditional revenge tragedy, he goes far beyond this form in his development of Hamlet s character. Shakespeare s exploration of Hamlet s complex thoughts and emotions is perhaps more the focus of the play rather than that of revenge, thus in Hamlet Shakespeare greatly develops and enhances the form of the traditional revenge tragedy. The main source of Hamlet is Saxo Grammaticus Historiae Danicae, a folk tale that has a similar plot to Hamlet; however, Shakespeare greatly transforms this story of revenge when creating Hamlet. Shakespeare also draws upon ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The revenge ghost is a convention Kyd took from Seneca s tragedies, and in fact, Don Andrea has similar parallels to the ghost of Achilles in Seneca s play Troades. The first appearance of the old king s ghost in the opening scene of Hamlet would have been suggestive of a revenge tragedy to an Elizabethan audience. However, the ghost does not demand revenge as Don Andrea does, but rather adds to the uncertainty and sense of foreboding in the scene. The play begins in a bitter cold night, bringing a sense of pathetic fallacy to the scene, as the setting adds to the sense of trouble in Denmark, as described by Horatio and Marcellus. It is not until Act I, Scene V that the ghost appears to Hamlet, demanding revenge [for] his foul and most unnatural murder, and thus introducing the theme of revenge in Hamlet. Although Hamlet proclaims that [he will] sweep to [his] revenge, he does not take his revenge until the final scene of the play. Hamlet s inaction and delay of his revenge is paralleled in The Spanish Tragedy, however the reasons for delay in Hamlet are somewhat different. Abnormal Psychology ABNORMAL PSYCHOLOGY: MOOD DISORDERS A mood disorder is the term given for a group of diagnoses in the DSM IV TR classification system where a disturbance in the person s emotional mood is hypothesised to be the main underlying feature. The classification is known as mood (affective) disorders in ICD 10. English psychiatrist Henry Maudsley proposed an overarching category of affective disorder. The term was then replaced by mood disorder, as the latter term refers to the underlying or longitudinal emotional state, whereas the former refers to the external expression observed by others. Approximately half of people with unipolar depression recover within six weeks and 90% recover within a year, some without treatment (Kessler, 2002; Kendler et al., 1997). However, most of them have at least one other episode of depression later on their lives (Boland Keller, 2002). The DSM IV TR approach to classifying mood disorders recognizes several subtypes of depression, placing special emphasis on the distinction between unipolar and bipolar disorders. Diagnostic Criteria of Major Depressive Disorder A minimum of five of the following symptoms must be present for at least 2 weeks. Depressed mood or loss of interest or pleasure must be one of them. Depressed mood most of the day, nearly every day. Diminished interest or pleasure in all or almost all activities nearly every day. Significant weight loss or weight gain. Insomnia or hypersomnia (excessive sleeping) nearly every day. Restlessness or lethargy nearly every day. Frequent fatigue or loss of energy. Feelings of worthlessness or in appropriate guilt. Financial Statements Paper Abstract In this paper I will identify the four basic financial statements, discuss how they are interrelated with each other, and why they are useful to managers, investors, creditors, and employees. BALANCE SHEET A balance sheet provides detailed information about a company s assets, liabilities and shareholders equity. Assets are things that a company owns that have value. This usually means they can either be sold or used by the company to make products or provide services that can be sold. Assets include physical property, such as plants, trucks, equipment and inventory. Assets also include things that can t be touched but nonetheless exist and have value, such as trademarks and patents. Cash itself is an asset, as well as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Small business owners use these statements to find out what areas of their business are over budget or under budget. Specific items that are causing unexpected expenditures can be pinpointed, such as phone, fax, mail, or supply expenses. Income statements can also track dramatic increases in product returns or cost of goods sold as a percentage of sales. They also can be used to determine income tax liability. Income statements, along with balance sheets, are the most basic elements required by potential lenders, such as banks, investors, and vendors. They will use the financial reporting contained therein to determine credit limits. STATEMENT OF OWNERS EQUITY (STATEMENT OF RETAINED EARNINGS) Retained earnings appear on the balance sheet and most commonly are influenced by income and dividends. The Statement of Retained Earnings therefore uses information from the Income Statement and provides information to the Balance Sheet. The Statement of Retained Earnings is a summary of the changes that occurred in the owner s equity during a specific time period, such as a month or a year. Increases to owner s equity arise from investments by the owner and from net income earned during the period. Decreases result from owner withdrawals and from a net loss for the period. • 16. Children Should Be Mandatory For Children In 1998 Andrew Wakefield released a paper linking the MMR vaccine to autism. This article caused panic among parents, leaving a trail of unvaccinated children. This trail eventually lead to a nationwide outbreak of the measles virus. This is the worst outbreak the US has seen since 1994. Even though Wakefield s publication has been discredited, there are still parents that choose not to protect their children because of his study. These children not being vaccinated is hurting our nation by lowering our herd immunity. It should be mandatory for children to receive vaccines. Children should be vaccinated because the research is conclusive that vaccines do not cause autism, children benefit from the vaccines, and help protect others who cannot be medically vaccinated. According to Tafuri, Martinelli , Prato and Germinario (2011) the anti vaccination movement was started by Andrew Wakefield in 1998. Wakefield published a paper in the Lancet of a study he conducted of twenty patients. This published study determined that autism and some forms of colitis were caused by the MMR vaccine (pg.1). Despite the fact the study has been discredited by medical professionals, and retracted by the Lancet, parents are still choosing not to vaccinate their children based on these falsified reports. Newer research reported by CNN as published by the British medical journal determines Wakefield, misrepresented or altered the medical histories of all 12 of the patients whose cases ... When the utility is something more concrete than mental and the idea of benefit is more relative. Utilitarianism would not work in a situation where a hospital must choose between a child and a celebrity both on the waiting list for a lifesaving organ transplant. The two very different philosophical views react differently to the subject of marijuana legalization. Utilitarianism, for instance, would almost certainly legalize marijuana. This is a simple answer, because the way that Utilitarianism is laid out, the end goal is the greatest aggregate happiness. In an ideal Utilitarian world, there would be no laws, limits, or codes, save that everyone should be as happy as they can be. Unfortunately, maintenance of data requires valuable resources in storage and transmission, as even the presence of information in storage re quires some power. However, some of the largest files are those that are in formats re plete with repetition, and thus are larger than they need to be. The study of data compres sion is the science which attempts to advance toward methods that can be applied to data in order to make it take up less space. The uses for this are vast, and algorithms will need to be improved in order to sustain the inevitably larger files of the future. Thus, I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The chronicle of modern data compression begins in the late 1940 s with a method de signed by Claude Shannon and Robert Fano, logically named Shannon Fano coding. It takes the frequencies of the symbols in a file to represent the more recurrent ones using shorter coding. This was improved upon by one of Fano s students, David Huffman, into an optimal version, and has obsoleted Shannon Fano coding (except for historical pur poses). The next step up, arithmetic coding, is similar to, and even better than Huffman coding, but it requires more resources to implement. Also, it is burdened with patentship, one of the most adverse (in terms of adoption) properties of data compression algorithms. The same also applies to others such as LZW, MP3 and more obscure ones. LZW, standing for Lempel Ziv Welch, was developed by Terry Welch, and is still patented, and used in .gif and .pdf files. Mp3, developed by the German Fraunhofer Society in the 1990 s, is used for com pressing sounds by removing inaudible redundancy and frequencies. It is, however, a lossy compression algorithm, called so because it loses some information that is not es 1 sential in order to save a lot of space. Often there is a disconnected coldness associated with those who work in communications art and produce art for clients. As if all emotion and feeling is stripped from commercial artwork merely because it was created with the intention of pleasing a client. While the broad reception to this poster can be attributed to its shock value, Sagmeister s self mutilation was a commentary on the absurdity of inking the body with tattoos (Heller amp; Vienne, 10). The scratches in his body display the details of the lecture as well as Sagmeister s words pertaining to his philosophy on design, Style=Fart. This philosophy, which he has now put to rest, translates as his conscious effort to not get wrapped up in fashion statements or trends; design that is defined by a temporary style is meaningless (Designboom). Sagmeister explains why he relinquished the philosophy in an interview with Designboom: I discovered that this is simply not true. Through experience I found that if you have content that is worthwhile the proper expression of that content, in terms of form and style is actually very important. • 32. The Horrible And Gruesome Events Of The Holocaust The author of Night, a novel documenting the horrible and gruesome events of the holocaust, Elie Wiesel expresses his experiences and observations in which he and his fellow Jews were dehumanized while living in concentration camps (a hell on earth). All Jews, as a race were brutalized by the Nazis during this time; reducing them to no less than objects, positions which meant nothing to them, belongings that were a nuisance. Nazis would gather every Jew that they could find and bring them to these infernos, separating the men and women. Families, not knowing it would never see each other again. Individuals within the categories were divided even more, based on their health, strength, and age. They would be judged by a Nazi officer, which would then decide their fate, if they would have the opportunity to live or if they would be sentenced strait to execution. In these camps, babies became target practice, being tossed in the air like an object with no significant value and shot at with no remorse. The more mature could be sentenced to execution, tossed into pits of fire while fully conscious burning them alive. In addition, the ones who passed inspection received treatment as if they were slaves and dogs, making them follow any command, any disobeying of these demands would consequence them to be shot without hesitation. These dehumanizing crimes were the punishments forced on the Jewish race by the Nazi influence, turning Jewish nationality into a nuisance against what they ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Henry James was a prominent figure in Victorian Era literature known for his attention to conscious perception and ambiguous writing. Because of the mystery shrouding his works, people have become adept at reading between the lines and filling in his plot holes with their own inferred ideas. His book The Turn of the Screw is one of his most vague and intriguing pieces and has therefore been a subject of much conflict among critics. Of all possible theories, most boil down to the reliability of the governess; is she telling the truth, or has she gone insane? Given James background living with a philosopher father, a psychologist brother and a sister with numerous mental health issues, critics often choose the latter theory. The governess ... The governess is struggling to ignore her desires and maintain society s standards of a perfect woman as well as preserve her innocence and reliability as an authority figure. Since she was taught to look down upon women who deviate from societal expectations, she imagines Jessel in black, pale, and dreadful with a dishonorable connection to Quint (James 50, 52). The apparition of Miss Jessel forms from all the unacceptable sexual motives she finds within herself; a way to reprimand her behavior without villainizing herself . In addition, Jessel s affair with Quint reflects the governess s unconscious desire for a forbidden relationship with the master of Bly (Rodriguez 2). The ghosts provide her with a method to play out her fantasies while avoiding the consequences of an illegitimate child and harsh judgment, issues Jessel and Quint had experienced in their lives. Furthermore, the governess is afraid of scaring or tainting the innocence of the children with her abnormal behavior which is evident through her fear of the ghosts corrupting them. By projecting her dangerous, evil qualities on ghosts, she convinces herself that she will be inherently better at watching the children, gaining their trust and even saving them (Otten 2). • 34. Acetaminophen Theory Description of Disease and Underlying theory Acetaminophen, once ingested into the body is rapidly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract into the blood stream where it reaches peak plasma concentration in as little as half an hour. Here, it circulates around the body for a period of up to 4 hours during which it produces its analgesic and antipyretic effects before the acetaminophen is metabolised and deactivated by the liver by a possible 3 pathways: Glucuronidation, sulfation and oxidation (Show below in Figure 2). The most commonly used pathway is the glucuronidation metabolism, closely followed by the sulfation pathway. These methods of metabolism deactivate the acetaminophen in the hepatocytes into non toxic conjugated sulphate and glucuronide which are excreted in the urine [23] [24]. The majority of the initially ingested therapeutic dosage is metabolised this way, with the remaining acetaminophen being metabolised via the third hepatic cytochrome P45 oxidase pathway, primarily by the enzyme CYP2E1 [25]. • 35. The Theories Of The Typology Of Serial Killers A serial killer is a person who commits a series of murders, often with no apparent motive and typically following a characteristic or predictable behavior pattern. Theories on Serial Killers Holmes and DeBurger (1998) specified the typology of serial killers and expressed this typology into four distinct categories: Visionary killers are categorized as being out of touch with reality and are noted as hearing voices in their head Mission oriented serial killers, state that their life s mission is to kill certain kinds of people Hedonistic killers gain their thrills from the joy of the act and these are the majority of serial killers Power/control killers seek more satisfaction through bloodlust and having complete control over their victims (Walsh) Law enforcement and social scientists have often tried to assess serial killers who have been caught in order to better understand their reasons for acting violent. Since serial killers have a definitive personality profile. Some serial killers share the same behaviors such as; wetting the bed and wanting to start fires. While these reasons are not associated with all serial killers, there has been a tendency for these traits to be present in the majority of serial killers that have been studies. Social science has discovered that about 90% of serial killers are Caucasian males. These individuals are most times very smart. Serial killers usually come from dysfunctional families, or have had one parent abandon them at an early age. Psychological analysis has reasoned that this dysfunction or abandonment has caused many individuals to commit criminal acts. Female Serial Killers Female serial killers have been discovered by going by significant data to killer for money or pure excitement as opposed to their male counterparts who have other reasons for killing. Poison is usually seen to be a common technique used by female serial killers. Female serial killers also have been shown to have longer careers as murderers than males and they typically carefully plan their crimes through a methodical process. My opponent is required to be a creationist who believes in a worldwide flood. He can not however, just ignore problems and say that God did it. He can t used faith as a justification for belief, and must prove it with evidence. Of course, positive claims require positive evidence, and that is what I expect. Meteorology and Thermodynamics Leonard G. Soroka and Charles L. Nelson in their Physical Constraints on the Noachian Deluge examined four separate methods for flood waters, being rain, hypothermic springs, and two types of cometary impact. None of them work, due to excessive energy and heat. Rainfall Model The amount of water presently in the oceans is about 1.37 billion cubic kilometers, and to cover all the high mountains of the earth would require 4.4 billion additional cubic kilometers or approximately 3 times the amount of water present in the oceans. Not only would this make the air unbreathable due to it being 99.9% water vapor, atmospheric pressure being 840 times what it is now. Then take the latent heat of vaporization, when a kilogram of water vapor condenses and 2.26 million joules of energy are released. This is what powers thunderstorms and hurricanes. It also illuminates the development of the extended metaphor of comparing truth to light. From the very beginning of the poem, the speaker is instructing on the best way to tell the truth. Dickinson, through a use of a specific technique of rhyming, literary elements, and different forms of figurative language, establishes the importance of not telling the truth all at once. Dickinson is by no means stating that we should keep the truth completely hidden; however, she is quickly asserting her opinion of how the truth needs to be told. In telling the truth one must slant or hold back from embellishing all of the details of that particular truth. The ensuing line, Success in Circuit lies (1.2), parallels the first lines slant with a curvature of a circuit. A circuit goes perfectly around an area eventually returning back to the same spot. Dickinson conveys that only certain details should be let out, eventually giving you the truth as a whole. Also the words chosen in this line seem have reason to be grouped together. The word lies (1.2) is paired within a sentence with the word Success (1.2), giving the connection that lies may be needed to obtain success. The poem is trying to point out that truth and lies both can become truth, if they are presented in the correct circuit. The third line, Too bright for our infirm Delight (1.3), uses a metaphor to compare truth to light. This metaphor is full of imagery, associating truth to something that stimulates one s sense of sight. Something that is too bright hurts the eyes, thus the metaphor conveys that telling the truth in its entirety can at times be painful. Finally, the last line of this stanza, The Truth s superb surprise (1.4), personifies the truth as having the ability to give a surprise. A ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
