The A-Darter is a fifth-generation, short-range air-to-air missile developed in South Africa. It has lock-on-after-launch capability and infrared imaging for guidance. The missile is wingtip-mounted, 2.98m long, weighs 90kg, and has a 10km range. Flight tests on the JAS-39 Gripen demonstrated its agility and accuracy at high speeds and altitudes. Future versions of the A-Darter are planned, including anti-ship and extended range variants.
