The Nazi party introduced economic policies after gaining power in 1933 to ensure they maintained control, including building autobahns and the Strength Through Joy program. While these policies provided employment and benefits to workers, contributing to popularity, the key reason the Nazis maintained power between 1933-1939 was through fear, particularly the fear created by the SS secret police.

For part 1 choose ONLY 1 essay question from the list below.docxlmelaine
For part 1
choose ONLY 1 essay question from the list below, which covers chapters 18 and 19 in the textbook. Grades will be based on the content of the answer and must be more than 300 words in length. Direct quotes do not count toward the required word count.
Part 1 Essay Questions:
1 - In what ways was the Progressive era a period that saw both the expansion and the restriction of political and economic freedoms?
2 - Analyze the various roles women played during the Progressive era, from social reformer, to feminist, to suffragist. How did various women define freedom? Be sure to distinguish between different types of women and include the “Voices of Freedom” excerpt in your answer.
3 - Freedom of expression was given new meaning by labor in the Progressive age. Thinking back to previous chapters, compare the various movements to expand the meaning of freedom of expression—from the Alien and Sedition Acts to the abolitionists in the antebellum era—with the labor movement in the Progressive age. Use the “Voices of Freedom” piece.
4 - Compare the Populist and Progressive movements. Critically analyze why the Progressive movement seemed to have more success. What were the limitations of the Populist movement?
5 - Compare the presidencies of Roosevelt, Taft, and Wilson. What made them Progressive presidents? Identify what you believe to be the most important pieces of legislation passed during each administration. Why are these so significant? Finally, be sure to indicate what each president did to expand the meaning of freedom for Americans.
6 - Explain how Americans used the language of freedom when discussing foreign policy. Look specifically at the foreign policies of Roosevelt, Taft, and Wilson in your answer. Did the meaning of freedom change with each administration or stay constant?
7 - It is April 1917, you are a member of Congress, and President Wilson wants a declaration of war. Justify your vote for or against war with Germany.
8 - Examine the restrictions placed on freedom during World War I. Be sure to analyze Debs’s piece in “Voices of Freedom,” the Committee on Public Information, and “coercive patriotism.”
9 - Compare the political ideas of W. E. B. Du Bois and Marcus Garvey. What were the similarities (if any)? What were the differences?
10 - Examine and analyze Woodrow Wilson’s ideas about foreign policy. To what extent did Wilson put into practice his stated ideas?

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

10. After the Nazi party gained power in 1933 and transformed Germany into a totalitarian state. To
ensure that they held onto power they introduced a variety of economic policies such as building
the autobahns and social policies such as strength through joy (KDF) to not just maintain power
but to continue their popularity. This will discuss the question about whether or not it was these
economic policies that contributed to the Nazis maintaining power between 1933-1939. (1 Mark)
Hitler introduced a variety of economic policies framed around his two goals of full employment
and Autarky which suggested that Germany would not need to rely on any other country.
Policies such as the creation of the Autobahn was successful as it ensured that 80,000 people
were employed (1 mark ).Even those who were employed benefitted from the Nazi policies with
the ‘beauty of work scheme’ designed to make workplaces more appealing with freshened up
factories and canteens being introduced to increase worker happiness (1 mark). Hitler also,
according to the Nazi records did manage to decrease the unemployment rate from 6 million to 0
in the period 1933-1939 (1 Mark) however it must be noted that many people just took jobs that
were previously allocated to Jews and women.
11. There were other reasons why the Nazi party maintained power between
1933-1939 (1 Mark). They built upon increased worker happiness and
productivity with a variety of social policies such as offering worker holidays
through the KDF Strength through joy scheme with 30 million taking
advantage of this scheme. (1 Mark). Perhaps most crucial of all the Nazi
Party maintained power through fear, the SS State security service in
particular struck fear into the heart of many Germans who dared not step
out of line. (1 Mark). Connected to the fear of the SS was the fear of getting
sent to a concentration camps such as that in Dachau which was the most
feared tool of the Nazi Government. (1 Mark).
To conclusion, while it is true the Nazi economic policies contributed to the
Nazi party maintaining power between 1933-1939 in particular surrounding
giving white Germans a job the key reason why they maintained power was
because of the fear they created (1 Mark). The SS in particular through their
aim of eliminating all opposition to Hitler created fear in the German
population that helped Hitler maintain power. (1 Mark)
