1. What presentational devices are used to
persuade the audience?
The ‘Quit smoking’ advert uses colour to draw the audience into the
advertisement. The use of the colour red is used as the background
of the advert. The connotations of the colour red suggest that people
who smoke may be in danger, and your eyes are automatically drawn
to the advert. Furthermore, the use of the white text and ‘Smokefree’
logo makes it stand out more.

6. Model answer
The Cola-Cola advert uses colour to attract us to the advertisement. The
use of the white background, and the vibrant foreground, showing the
bottles of Coke which are red and brown. The clash of the background and
foreground make the two bottles of coke stand out, and you can see the
small speckles of Coke splattering out to show that they have clinked. The
white background has connotations of a happy event, such as a wedding,
party or could even be the sky. The foreground highlights the liquid of the
coke with a slight glow, which makes it extremely attractive. The colour is
extremely effective because it immediately attracts your attention, even if
you are far away and fixes your eyes onto the coke bottle and names
straightaway.
