Goal Setting Interview Paper
The first goal setting interview I had was with one of my students by the name of Skyler. Based off of
my interaction with Skyler these past few days, he is always looking for ways to get better with
academics as well as a become a better scholar. Not to mention, Skyler is a high performing student in
reading and math. When asked, What is something you would like to work on for the school year? , he
responded I would like to do better in math and cooperate. Skyler sometimes gives me a hard time
when it comes to cooperating in class. It is good to see that he also chose a behavior that I have
discussed with him on several occasions. Once his goal was set, I asked about the importance of this
particular goal and how will the goal be reached.

The 2016 College Basketball All Americans Are A Surprising...
The 2016 College Basketball All Americans are a surprising bunch. With the exception of Ben
Simmons and Jamal Murray, there is a conspicuous lack of former blue chip prospects on the list. This
year it was unheralded players from states not considered to be basketball hotbeds that ended up
making huge impacts huge. Jarrod Uthoff was a 90th ranked recruit in his high school class and from
the state of Iowa. Georges Niang was ranked 56th and from Massachusetts. Kris Dunn was ranked
23rd and from Connecticut. This didn t stop them from all eventually becoming all americans, and
when it came draft time Kris Dunn was picked 5th overall, Niang was picked 50th, and Uthoff signed
a contract with the Sacramento Kings as an undrafted free agent. ... Show more content on

However, as is the case with many widely accepted notions, there is no respectable study proving that
states such as California, Florida, Texas and Illinois are justified in taking up such a large portion of
the rankings, or whether high school players from these states really turn out to be better than the rest.
My methodology for doing this was I compiled the information for the top 100 high school recruits
from the years 2010 to 2014, analyzing the statistics for just about 500 players. Each player would be
rewarded a point if they met the criteria for win shares, and a point if they met the criteria in the draft.
If they received a point in each category they were labeled an overachiever, if they received a point in
one category but not the other they would be meeting expectations, and a point in neither category
would result in them underachieving. A state with a large amount of overachievers and those meeting
expectations has clearly been underrated, and the states with large amount of underachievers have
been overrated.
The criteria for win shares was as follows:
If you were a top 10 recruit who produced a win share of at least 4 in your freshman year, or averaged
a win share of 4 per season throughout your career you were awarded a point
If you were a recruit ranked 11 30 who produced a win share of at least 3

Effects Of Erosion Control On The Environment
Erosion control
Before any new construction begins in the United States the state or local municipality typically
requires an environmental impact statement, plan for erosion control, inspections and any other
methods needed to protect the environment from chemicals used, debris, and other waste which might
seep into the groundwater or land and pollute those important natural resources. Our project is
building in Huntsville, Alabama. We plan to follow advice for Low Impact Development, will use for
meeting civil standards for erosion control, such as water purity for example, underground pipes for
sewage. We also plan to attend any soil and water seminars offered before building begins to learn as
much as possible about any new developments in environmental codes.
We will begin to use autocad software to gain a clear picture of the building and the surrounding area
to help see possible sites where erosion might be a problem. The area in which the building will be
located is subject to erosion from wind, rain, and water, which is the primary source of erosion in
Alabama. Therefore, protection from water erosion caused by rains will be one of our primary
concerns. The autocad software will tell us the area we need to protect in it entirely, and we will use a
black silt fence for his purpose. Black silk fence comes in rolls of hundreds of feet, and if that isn t
enough connectors are available to connect additional silt fence.

without tax stamps. The incident was captured on video tape and made publicly available shortly after
and went viral. In the footage, the asthmatic, three hundred fifty pound Eric Garner was put into an
apparent chokehold in an effort to subdue him after he told the arresting officers that he was tired of
being harassed and refused to comply with their orders. In the footage audio Garner can be heard
exclaiming I can t breathe eleven times before the chokehold is released. Garner had to be hospitalized

The demographics of protesters are widely varied, representing the racial breakdown of the country
almost perfectly. Those that are engaged in the public outcry but are not directly affected by the
recognized public issue are likely to be engaging in social solidarity. Social solidarity refers to the ties
in a society that bind individuals as one group. Émile Durkheim defines it as a social cohesion that is
based on the dependence individuals on one another (Durkheim 133). Durkheim further classifies
solidarity into two types, mechanical and organic. Mechanical solidarity is largely based on social
cohesion stemming from the homogeneity of individuals. People form bonds through having similar
lifestyles, and those lifestyles are often based on the kinship ties of familial networks. This would be
the type of solidarity more likely to be undertaken between members the African American
community in this situation. Organic solidarity is generally found in more complex and less
homogenous social circles. In this type of solidarity bonds are formed based on interdependence
among complementary members of a social circle as opposed to homogeneity. This is the type of
solidarity that can be seen most readily among the outraged public as a whole. We see many different
demographics represented during these protests. Suburban

In the article entitled the Knowledge Tax , the author looks at why is Higher Education facing a higher
rate of taxes, and why is the tax pool itself so large compared to other taxable entities. An example
used in the text is that why would a person who graduates from college, and then decides to go on
medical school, faces a higher tax rate with less lucrative tax loopholes than someone who decides to
run an apartment complex, citing the more relaxed tax laws in property ownership than education. The
author also looks at how much can be deducted on tax forms via capital gains for the apartment

In the immediate aftermath of the 9/11 attacks, members of both parties were in support of how
President Bush handled the situation as well as his response thereafter. But after the clean up was over,
and the tears shed dried, another issue has arisen that creates an interesting decision process. What is a
terror threat has now become an issue that Washington has dealt with thru the remaining seven years
of the Bush administration and into the current seven years of the Obama administration. The article
looks at how those who are perceived as less tolerant are more likely to believe in greater threats of
terrorism than those who are tolerant. In an experiment that was done in the article, there was an
almost pure one hundred percent link between people who had terrorism fears and support of anti
terrorism policies. Essentially this was the people who identified as members of the GOP. The
Democrat side of the aisle was considered a bit more skewed as there were people who had little

The WEIRDO Brand
WEIRDO is a brand founded in Las Vegas by me, Austin. The same city where the biggest EDC
happens to take place only 15 minutes from where I live! I started to attend events later in 2014, my
very first rave was actually Zomboy, when I had no idea who he was! I accidentally met him that night
too, wandering around the venue I stumbled backstage and just recognized him from experiencing his
set literally 10 minutes earlier. Knowing the status of such an artist now, I would go ballistic! Not only
at that rave, but a couple more following I remember a certain sense of discomfort. I was more the
type to stand in the back analyze everyone, I actually was pondering what others would think if I were

A Tale of Resurrection in Two Cities
A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens incorporates many themes, one being resurrection. This
theme is used time and time again in the novel. Resurrection is revealed not only in the characters, but
in the culture of the book itself. Dickens indicates that resurrection is an influential theme, so much
that he combines it with his characters to make the novel have a deeper meaning. Being recalled to life
or resurrected is similar to being reborn: In A Tale of Two Cities, many characters are reborn ,
meaning that they have a new chance at life (Dingyuan and Xiaohua, 91). Requirements for being
recalled to life are embodied in A Tale of Two Cities. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Decline of the Minoan Civilization
Minoan Crete was a major civilization in its time, but several theories have been advanced to explain
its demise, including speculations associating it with mythical Atlantis. What were the causes of the
Minoan Civilization s decline? State the mystery and provide a brief summary of 2 reasonable
scholarly theories. Identify one of the theories as the most plausible and provide at least two
convincing reasons.
In researching this topic there are essentially two main theories that have been invoked to explain the
demise of Minoan civilization, but neither matches the observed ... Show more content on

Hendrik Bruins took some soil samples which showed sea microorganisms and species, in places that
no known phenomenon could explain their existence. The only way they could have been deposited
on the land of Crete was by a tsunami. The tidal wave caused by Santorini Volcano travelled and hit
the shores of Crete, destroying the plantations, the crops, the ships and commerce, devitalizing and
deviating the Minoan Civilization. The Minoan ports and infrastructures were destroyed by the 50 feet
waves and were never rebuilt. (Minoan Civilization, 2015) Another theory is that the Minoan
civilization on Crete was wiped out due to massive earthquakes and large amounts of ash that fell on
the island from the volcano. It was believed that the earthquakes caused the palaces to crumble, and
the ash choked off light and killed plants, leaving the survivors to starve. However, recent research
suggests otherwise. Most of the ash from the volcano fell in the opposite direction from Crete, and
Crete seems to have suffered only a slight dusting of ash. More destructive was a massive tsunami that
resulted from the eruption and devastated the Minoan settlements on the northern coast of Crete.
Earthquakes associated with the volcanic eruption also likely took their toll on Minoan urban life, but

Studies about FPM in the foster care system indicates that engagement is an important component to
achieving permanency for foster children (Boldis, Tomlinson, 2014; Crampton, Usher, Wildfire,
Webster, Cuccaro Alamin, 2011). It has been demonstrated that FPM increases biological family
members participation in permanency planning (Crampton, Usher, Wildfire, Webster, Cuccaro Alamin,
2011; Gladstone et al., 2012; Montserrat, L?pez, Bravo, del Valle, 2013). Permanency is more likely to
be long term when biological families are active members of the FPM (Balsells, Pastor, Mateos,
Vaquero, Urrea, 2015; Boldis, Tomlinson, 2014; Crampton, Usher, Wildfire, Webster, Cuccaro
Alamin, 2011; Steen, Duran, 2013). However, there is a gap in research on FPM and permanency
planning through the team approach of decision making that is inclusive of foster parents. The school
approved topic is How do foster parents describe the experiences and engagement in family
partnership meetings and permanency planning? This study looks to expand on the concept of foster
parents as professional members of a multidisciplinary team through their engagement in FPM and
permanency planning.

Loss Of Innocence In Catcher In The Rye
Justin Hwang Ms. Lydia Wells English 9 10/24/17 Loneliness and Phoniness: Loss of Innocence in
Salinger s Catcher in the Rye Loss of innocence is one of the major elements of The Catcher in the
Rye that make the novel so renowned. The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger is about an adolescent
named Holden who wanders around New York City after being kicked out of a prestigious boarding
school in eastern Pennsylvania. While learning more about himself and the adult world, he
experiences alcohol, prostitution, and sexuality. Holden struggles with issues such as identity and
maturity. Eventually, he realizes what it means to become an adult and accepts that maturity and
development is inevitable. Holden suffers from a loss of innocence when ... Show more content on

However, he admits that while the couple s actions are crumby (Salinger 81) and crude, he is still
aroused and wouldn t mind (Salinger 81) doing it, especially to a girl he is attracted to. While Holden
wants to preserve his innocence by not thinking about sex at all, he agrees that he is a sex maniac
(Salinger 81), and is a fiend about losing his virginity. Holden even goes as far as to make rules for
himself. On page 82, he recounts, I made a rule that I was going to quit horsing around with girls that,
deep down, gave me a pain in the ass. I broke it, though, the same week I made it the same night, as a
matter of fact (Salinger). He is slowly losing his innocence, and while he hates to admit it, Holden s
constant thoughts about sexuality is a sign of adulthood. To him, one should only have sex with
someone they truly love. Holden is almost proud of himself for having such a morally correct view of
sex. This is why he is so riled when he discovers that Stradlater had sex with Jane Gallagher. Holden
realized that Jane barely knew Stradlater and felt that he, if anyone, should be dating Jane. His
increasing thoughts on sexuality and loss of a conventional or shielded view of sex show that his loss
of innocence is apparent. Holden also loses his innocence when he accepts the inevitability of growing
up. When he visits the Natural History Museum, Holden notes that the exhibits

Rasputin s Death Justified
Sometimes, you can become close to people who are not what they seem. Rasputin was undoubtedly
one of those people. Though he claimed to be a holy man, rumors about him actually said that he was
a follower of Satan who seduced other women for sex. I believe that Rasputin s death was justified
because he was negatively influencing the Tsarina Aleksandra and granted a lot of political favors to
other royal politicians.
For that time period, your reputation could be the wall between life and death. Rasputin was seen as
the dark force that was ruining Mother Russia (Rosenberg 1). Although he became married to
Proskovia Fyodorovna Dubrovina in 1889, Rasputin continued to have sex and drink alcohol
regularly. Though he appeared a pious and saintly holy man in front of the royal couple, others saw
him as a dirty sex craved peasant who was ruining Russia and the monarchy (Rosenberg 1). All of the
aristocrats only saw Rasputin as filth who had been granted way too much power. Because of his
cravings, Rasputin would sometimes bring home women and give them political favors in return for
sex. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

was planning to overthrow the Tsar and started to plot his death. Of course, this is mostly speculation,

Maybe the industry may go up after several years (as marketing vice president said). At that time, the
increase of output will benefit the company. Here we draft this project DCF with a conservative
assumption to see whether this project is value to invest. The EPC project, originated by assistant
plant manager, should be a separate project in the Merseyside s capital budgeting. Although the EPC
production is a part of output from Merseyside plant, this project we are talking about is to renovate
and rationalize the polypropylene production line. There is no dependency between them. We
understand this EPC project might be very important for the company. But it is needed to propose
another separate capital budgeting for approval. As Gowan said, The Treasury staff thinks this
impounds a long term inflation expectation of 3 percent per year . To keep the gross margin, the
company may need increase sales 3% per year. As we all known, in most cases, the cost of goods sold
will increase accordingly with inflation. If the company continues keeping original sales, it means the
revenue will decline. So in DCF table, we add 3% increase for both before and after Merseyside
project. The impact items from the table are: new sales [_line 4 of exhibition 3_], old sales [_line 9 of

There is something about the word dead that many people suddenly feel dread. It is just your usual

death in Deadwood, South Dakota. There we have it perhaps he should never have gone to a town

The Ones Who Walk Away From The Omelas By Ursula Le Guin
A dream of ignorance The short story The ones who walk away from the Omelas by Ursula Le Guin
does a great job of criticizing the flaws of a capitalist society. What this means is that she talks about
how it has become a standard for someone to become happy at the expense of others. In order to
demonstrate this she presents a society that guarantees eternal happiness at the expense of a single
child who must suffer through it all. The characters are faced with two choices which would be to stay
and accept the child s fate or to walk away and leave for the mountains. Both of these choices do not
involve helping the child but rather abandoning it in both circumstances. This is a criticism of how
people in reality typically treat those who are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Le Guin s exploitation of this in her writing gives us a clear indication of her intended audience. This
once again justifies my theory as to why Omelas is based off of a dream she once had. What the dream
did was remind of her that there are people out there suffering and being completely ignored. The fact
that she contributed towards the continuation of such suffering ultimately inspired her to push for
change in public awareness. An important method that Le Guin uses is to maintain respect by not
acting angry to the general public. If she was calling out individuals disrespectfully then she herself
would be subject to criticism as well. This is why she turns to writing due to past difficulties with
public activism. While she did help influence a few people to help spread the word, she gained more
public criticism as people found her too demanding(jstor.org). Therefore she switched to becoming an
activist through writing literature. Switching through this method has helped gain widespread respect
while further popularizing her cause. An interesting fact about this short and the poverty rate in the
Unites States there seems to be a positive correlation in terms of reducing it. The story was written in
the year 1973 and the poverty rate has reduced by a seven percent(the nation.org). While there is

I Am An American Teenager With An Hispanic Background
Nowadays, people are exposed to more cultures that they are not accustomed to than in the past. As
the years go by, more interracial marriages are being accepted exposing future generations to multi
cultures. I am an American teenager with an Hispanic background. My parents, born and raised in
Guatemala immigrated to the United States a few years before my birth. Since my birth, I have been
exposed to two very different types of cultures. I have lived in the United States all my life while I
have visited Guatemala a couple of times for a few weeks each. Being more accustomed to life in the
United States, life in Guatemala is very distinctive. Communicating with family in Guatemala was
definitely more challenging than communicating with the family back home in the United States.
These types of situations have led to complexities in communication, a topic that LaRay M. Barna
analyzes thoroughly in her article Intercultural Communication Stumbling Blocks. The complexities
in communication that Barna addresses are spread into five stumbling blocks: language, nonverbal
signs and symbols, preconceptions and stereotypes, tendency to evaluate, and high anxiety. These five
stumbling blocks can occur in any shape or form in communication between two cultures. Language,
nonverbal signs and symbols, as well as preconceptions and stereotypes are the stumbling blocks that
occurred most when communicating with my family that reside in Guatemala. According to Barna,

Dante And The Road Of Humanism
Dante and the Road to Humanism During the Renaissance, the ideology of humanism became
extremely popular. After the black plague people presumed that God had abandoned them. As a result,
they began to search for their own answers through observation and experimentation; this method was
called empiricism. Through this, man began to place himself at the center of the universe instead of
God. Individuals began to embrace their own talents and spend less time worrying about the next life
and more living in the current one. Humanism was also developed from a desire to re live the
Classical time period, or the golden age; therefore, the humanistic education consisted of studies of
Greek, Latin, art, music and philosophy. This contemporary way of thinking inspired many
philosophers and writers. Throughout Dante s work he emphasizes the concept of humanism, and it is
this work that influenced many other philosophers including Petrarch and Boccaccio. Dante Alighieri
was born in 1265 in Florence, Italy. Dante was an Italian poet, prose writer, literary theorist, moral
philosopher, and political thinker. In the thirteenth century, groups called the Guelfs and the
Ghibellines arose. The Guelfs supported the pope, and around 1290 they divided into two groups, the
White and Black Guelfs. Dante was closer to the White party which was composed of merchants and
traders; the Black group consisted of banking families. In 1301 Dante left Florence on a mission to

Intelligence-Led Policing Case Study
Intelligence led policing is one of the main global issues and important factor that the police service
are faced with in today s modern society in particular the Queensland Police Service. Intelligence led
policing is explained through a various different sources in literature, which explain the definition and
issues surrounding intelligence led policing, the main fundamental structures that support and make up
intelligence led policing and the role it has played in information communication technologies,
organised crime and transnational organised crime. There is also a link seen between the literature of
intelligence led policing and organisational documents such as annual reports, legislation s and

While the literature tries to define intelligence led policing the Queensland Police service makes no
attempt to define as it is assumed knowledge that every police offer knows what intelligence led
practices are (Ratclifee 2008). This can then create misinterpretation of actions plans as there is no
universal definition by the Queensland police of what intelligence led policing is. Another major
difference is that seen in the literature and the Queensland Police services is the interactions with
external partnerships as stated by Ratcliffe (2003, p.3). Within the documentations provided by the
Queensland Police Service very few mentioned working with external partnerships on the global issue
of intelligence led policing. Most of the documents focused on inside the Queensland police service
while only the Queensland Police Service ICT Resources Strategic Plan 2009 2013 annual report
addressed the issue of working with external stakeholders and intergrading them into the intelligence

To test this prediction, five social groups of savannah baboons were followed over nine years in
Amboseli, Kenya. This was done to measure testosterone (fT) and glucocorticoid (fGC) levels by
analyzing collected fecal samples. General linear mixed models (GLMMs) were made to predict fGC

David Hume and Future Occurrences Essay
David Hume, in An Inquiry Concerning Human Understanding, discusses how we cannot predict the
future. Even though our experiences and our reasoning tell us that objects act in a predictable way, we
still cannot prove how objects will act in the future based upon previous interactions. After biting into
a piece of pizza we expect an enjoyable taste. This enjoyable taste is expected because our past
experiences have proven this to us. Even though we think we can predict that the pizza will act the
same as our previous experiences, it may just blow up upon biting. Hume explains that there is no way
to predict the future based on our previous experiences and reasoning and I will explain the logic he
uses to prove this.
To start, Hume makes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An example of a matter of fact is that my name is Josh Peete. I could have been named something else
like John Doe and I still would be the same object. The contrary of every matter of fact is still
possible, because it can never imply a contradiction and is conceived by the mind with the same
facility and distinctness, as if ever so conformable to reality. (500) So the opposite of a matter of fact
can be true. The piece of pizza that I bite into could explode in my face even though I had never
experienced that before. Matters of fact, or knowledge learned through experience, cannot prove how
objects function.
People believe in matters of fact because they have some other reason for doing so. All reasoning
concerning matter of fact seems to be founded on the relation of cause and effect. By means of that
relation alone we can go beyond the evidence of our memory and senses. (500) I have a firecracker
and a lighter. The cause for the firecracker to explode would be me lighting the fuse. The effect of me
lighting the fuse would be that the firecracker explodes. These claims are called causal claims and
they explain the cause and effect relationships of objects. Hume uses the example of someone on a
desert island who finds a watch. The person on the island concludes that the effect of a watch being on
the island is a cause of a human once inhabiting it. His reasoning though may be

Several comparative material has been found from the ancient Near East which have many similarities

creation story.[footnoteRef:5] They suggest several similarities and differences in the flood epic
narrative from ancient Mesopotamia and the Genesis narrative[footnoteRef:6] and have attempted to
make comparisons between the flood stories in Gilgamesh and Genesis on ?literary grounds?, in terms
of flood traditions in both the Hebrew tradition and the Mesopotamian tradition. [4: W. G. Lambert, ?
A NEW LOOK AT THE BABYLONIAN BACKGROUND OF GENESIS,? The Journal of
Theological Studies 16, no. 2 (1965): 101.] [5: W. G. A. R. MILLARD LAMBERT, Atra Hasis: The
Babylonian Story of the Flood. With The Sumerian Flood Story by M. Civil (Oxford Clarendon Press,
1970), 101.] [6: Ibid., 25?27.]
K.A. Kitchen names nine differences and seven similarities in the two traditions. The two narratives
claim that the decision to send the flood as punishment was divine (made by deity); a chosen person
(man) is instructed to save himself and his family, together with living animals and to do this he is
asked to build an ark (boat); the flood destroys everyone else on the earth. The boat eventually rests on
a mountain and the birds are sent out off the boat to see if there is any land that is habitable. The
chosen man eventually sacrifices to the divine and humanity is renewed on the earth.[footnoteRef:7]
For Kitchen, the differences are that in the Genesis narrative, deity (God) observes the wickedness that
was done by the humans on the earth

The Mediation Context Of Public Policy
Case Title: An International Incident Context and Sources I sought out the mediation context of public
policy. More specifically, I was interested in the purpose of international relations. This sort of large
scale mediation can literally affect the world as a whole, and may prove to be a key for continued
survival of the human race. In researching mediation from an international context, I ran across a
number of interesting articles detailing various viewpoints, advances in the field, shortcomings, and
examples of successful mediation. The articles and authors I used in the creation of this mediation
case are as follows: Alexander, N., Leathes, M., Monberg, T., Vanenkova, I. (2013, August 20).

Newton s Laws of Motion
An object at rest stays at rest and an object in motion stays in motion with the same
speed and in the same direction unless acted upon by an unbalanced force (Newton s First Law).
To determine if a person should run or walk, you will have to understand the Second Law of
Motion. The second law states that force equals mass times acceleration. In order for a person
of a certain mass to accelerate, that person must use some force, so the force must overcome
gravity, friction, and be larger than the mass of the person trying to move (Newton s Second Law
of Motion). If you want to walk or run you will need a bigger force (¶ 4). To walk is not as hard
as running, so less force is needed to succeed in doing it (Forester). This leads us to the third law
of motion, for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction (Newton s Third Law).
Another concept of Physics is moving water. For example, flushing the toilet, waterfalls
and dams. Flushing a toilet is a great example of transferring energy. Usually on most toilets
there is tan on the back of it filled with water. Water that is stored is a great example of potential
energy and no kinetic energy. Once toilet is flushed, it gives the water momentum. From
waterfalls and dams we can produce hydropower. It is a renewable energy source that converts
kinetic energy from falling water into electricity. From the water momentum pushes against the
turbine s blades to switch

In A World Full Of All Kinds Of Languages, They Don’T Always
In a world full of all kinds of languages, they don t always mean the same thing. In the passage Words
Don t Always Mean What They Mean by Steven Pinker, he writes about the nature of language and
cognitive science. In his passage, he is analytical and straightforward with analyzing multiple
examples of how euphemisms are used and why. He always makes his examples to prove his points
and by getting his audience involved and thinking by including rhetorical questions. Words don t mean
what they mean because of different interpretations, the complex and euphemism human language,
and the manipulation of people s intent. Steven Pinker, in Word Don t Always Mean What They Mean,
is able to give points as to how words can have different ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Pinker had also included Gee, Officer, is there any way I could pay the fine right here? and anyone
who has sat through a fundraising dinner is familiar with euphemistic schnorring like, We re counting
on you to show leadership. (Pinker) The example included someone bribing a police officer with
money to try to get out of a ticket but saying it in such a way where it sounds less inappropriate than it
would be to bribe a cop. To show how language can be manipulated to insinuate people s intent rather
than stating it as a blatant proposition. In paragraph ten of Words Don t Always Mean What They
Really Mean, Pinker states, Later he slaps his forehead: Coffee doesn t mean coffee! Coffee means
sex! The moment is funny, but it s also a reminder of just how carefully romantic partners must always
tread. Make too blatant a request, as in Tootsie, and the hearer is offended; too subtle, as in Seinfeld,
and it can go over the hearers head. (Pinker) This was a great example by Pinker because the man
completely misunderstood the woman because she disguised the true meaning of what she really
wanted. In the article Languages from Bloomsbury Guide to Human Thought, it states Language is a
way of communication by symbols. Feelings, ideas, thoughts and wishes are encoded, sometimes
manipulated and passed on by the utterer; the receiver then decodes them. (Bloomsbury Guide to
Human Thought)

Persuasive Essay On The Joker
The scene opens with Darth Vader, one of the greatest villains to exist in a fictional universe. He
glides through the doors of the Rebel ship, stormtroopers following closely behind. His all black
outfit, cape, helmet, and all stand out against the stark white interior of the ship. His unmistakable
breathing echoes throughout the hall, and his light saber clings by his side. All great and memorable
villains have several things in common. All great fictional villains have great costumes that make
them memorable. For example the Joker from the Batman comic books, as well as the movie
adaptations has a great costume. He is most noticeably seen in a royal purple suit, and green or purple
tie. His hair is a nasty green color, usually seen slicked back. His defining characteristic lies with his
clown makeup, pasty white face paint, and a bright red smile, all which define the name Joker.
Another great villain with a memorable costume also belongs to the Batman universe. This villain
being The Penguin. The version that has the most notoriety is the one from the Tim Burton Batman
film from 1989. The Penguin is seen in a black suit, monocle, and top hat. It is his makeup that really
makes him live up to his namesake. His skin is painted a pale white, eyes a sunken in grey color, and a
nose made to be elongated to resemble a beak. A villain with a great costume outside of the Batman
universe is the greatest of all villains, the one and only Darth Vader. He is clad is all black apparel,

Here at Virgin Atlantic, we identify and meet customer needs through customer survey questionnaires/
comment cards and customer forums/focus groups.
When the survey questionnaires or comment cards have been read by a member for our staff, usually
the customer service manager, they then analyse all of the comments to find areas of improvement in
order to meet customer needs.
For example, if a number of customers have complained about staff not knowing obvious information
i.e. directions around the airport, prices of products or check in times, that would tell us that our staff
are unequipped to help our customers.
From this, we will then need to realise and work our a way to get more information into our staff in
order to meet the needs of our customers more efficiently.
This can be done in many ways, however the most ideal one for this situation would be to hold regular
morning/afternoon meetings to keep staff updated with information.
When we exceed customer expectations, we like to go that extra mile by giving out customers more in
depth information. An example of this would be when a customer asks simply the time of their flight,
we like to make sure that our staff will fully inform our customers of their flight time, boarding time,
gate number and if there will be any delays.
At the Martime Museum (NMM) they meet and exceed

Understanding the Black Power Movement
Introduction Understanding the Black Power Movement as it relates to the creation of Black or
African American study programs and departments is to recognize the efforts of radical student
activists on college campuses. The prevailing thought of the Black existence casted doubt on the
importance of Black/African studies at colleges and universities. Blacks, unfortunately, were thought
to not have a history, or at least one not worth examining, in the American existence and even within
world civilization. However, such as notion is baseless. In the tens of thousands of years of
civilization, Africans have witnessed and contributed to the productivity of the human existence. The
great salt and gold kingdoms of the Ghanaian and Malian Empires thrived long before the Hapsburg
and Bourbon dynasties rules Spain and France, respectively. Yet, the contributions of those great
African civilizations were often ignored in the historiography of early civilizations. Even the
contributions of the Ancient Egyptians have become part of the ensemble of the Greek and Roman
tragedy, removing Egypt from the history of Africa. The contributions of Black Americans in the
history of the United States were virtually absent prior to the creation of Black Study programs and
departments. The assumption of Black history was that it included the 300 plus years of enslavement,
the Civil War (where student are indoctrinated to believe that President Lincoln intended on freeing

  • 3. Goal Setting Interview Paper The first goal setting interview I had was with one of my students by the name of Skyler. Based off of my interaction with Skyler these past few days, he is always looking for ways to get better with academics as well as a become a better scholar. Not to mention, Skyler is a high performing student in reading and math. When asked, What is something you would like to work on for the school year? , he responded I would like to do better in math and cooperate. Skyler sometimes gives me a hard time when it comes to cooperating in class. It is good to see that he also chose a behavior that I have discussed with him on several occasions. Once his goal was set, I asked about the importance of this particular goal and how will the goal be reached. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The 2016 College Basketball All Americans Are A Surprising... The 2016 College Basketball All Americans are a surprising bunch. With the exception of Ben Simmons and Jamal Murray, there is a conspicuous lack of former blue chip prospects on the list. This year it was unheralded players from states not considered to be basketball hotbeds that ended up making huge impacts huge. Jarrod Uthoff was a 90th ranked recruit in his high school class and from the state of Iowa. Georges Niang was ranked 56th and from Massachusetts. Kris Dunn was ranked 23rd and from Connecticut. This didn t stop them from all eventually becoming all americans, and when it came draft time Kris Dunn was picked 5th overall, Niang was picked 50th, and Uthoff signed a contract with the Sacramento Kings as an undrafted free agent. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, as is the case with many widely accepted notions, there is no respectable study proving that states such as California, Florida, Texas and Illinois are justified in taking up such a large portion of the rankings, or whether high school players from these states really turn out to be better than the rest. My methodology for doing this was I compiled the information for the top 100 high school recruits from the years 2010 to 2014, analyzing the statistics for just about 500 players. Each player would be rewarded a point if they met the criteria for win shares, and a point if they met the criteria in the draft. If they received a point in each category they were labeled an overachiever, if they received a point in one category but not the other they would be meeting expectations, and a point in neither category would result in them underachieving. A state with a large amount of overachievers and those meeting expectations has clearly been underrated, and the states with large amount of underachievers have been overrated. The criteria for win shares was as follows: If you were a top 10 recruit who produced a win share of at least 4 in your freshman year, or averaged a win share of 4 per season throughout your career you were awarded a point If you were a recruit ranked 11 30 who produced a win share of at least 3 ... • 5. Effects Of Erosion Control On The Environment Erosion control Before any new construction begins in the United States the state or local municipality typically requires an environmental impact statement, plan for erosion control, inspections and any other methods needed to protect the environment from chemicals used, debris, and other waste which might seep into the groundwater or land and pollute those important natural resources. Our project is building in Huntsville, Alabama. We plan to follow advice for Low Impact Development, will use for meeting civil standards for erosion control, such as water purity for example, underground pipes for sewage. We also plan to attend any soil and water seminars offered before building begins to learn as much as possible about any new developments in environmental codes. We will begin to use autocad software to gain a clear picture of the building and the surrounding area to help see possible sites where erosion might be a problem. The area in which the building will be located is subject to erosion from wind, rain, and water, which is the primary source of erosion in Alabama. Therefore, protection from water erosion caused by rains will be one of our primary concerns. The autocad software will tell us the area we need to protect in it entirely, and we will use a black silt fence for his purpose. Black silk fence comes in rolls of hundreds of feet, and if that isn t enough connectors are available to connect additional silt fence. Figure 1: Silt fence 36 wide filter ... The incident was captured on video tape and made publicly available shortly after and went viral. In the footage, the asthmatic, three hundred fifty pound Eric Garner was put into an apparent chokehold in an effort to subdue him after he told the arresting officers that he was tired of being harassed and refused to comply with their orders. In the footage audio Garner can be heard exclaiming I can t breathe eleven times before the chokehold is released. Garner had to be hospitalized immediately, and was pronounced dead less than an hour after the incident. Garner s death was ruled a homicide and the officer responsible ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The demographics of protesters are widely varied, representing the racial breakdown of the country almost perfectly. Those that are engaged in the public outcry but are not directly affected by the recognized public issue are likely to be engaging in social solidarity. Social solidarity refers to the ties in a society that bind individuals as one group. Émile Durkheim defines it as a social cohesion that is based on the dependence individuals on one another (Durkheim 133). Durkheim further classifies solidarity into two types, mechanical and organic. Mechanical solidarity is largely based on social cohesion stemming from the homogeneity of individuals. People form bonds through having similar lifestyles, and those lifestyles are often based on the kinship ties of familial networks. This would be the type of solidarity more likely to be undertaken between members the African American community in this situation. Organic solidarity is generally found in more complex and less homogenous social circles. In this type of solidarity bonds are formed based on interdependence among complementary members of a social circle as opposed to homogeneity. This is the type of solidarity that can be seen most readily among the outraged public as a whole. We see many different demographics represented during these protests. Suburban ... • 7. The Knowledge Tax 1.) Simkovic, Michael. (Fall 2015). The Knowledge Tax. The University of Chicago Law Review. Vol. 82.4. 1981 2043. In the article entitled the Knowledge Tax , the author looks at why is Higher Education facing a higher rate of taxes, and why is the tax pool itself so large compared to other taxable entities. An example used in the text is that why would a person who graduates from college, and then decides to go on medical school, faces a higher tax rate with less lucrative tax loopholes than someone who decides to run an apartment complex, citing the more relaxed tax laws in property ownership than education. The author also looks at how much can be deducted on tax forms via capital gains for the apartment property owner versus what the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the immediate aftermath of the 9/11 attacks, members of both parties were in support of how President Bush handled the situation as well as his response thereafter. But after the clean up was over, and the tears shed dried, another issue has arisen that creates an interesting decision process. What is a terror threat has now become an issue that Washington has dealt with thru the remaining seven years of the Bush administration and into the current seven years of the Obama administration. The article looks at how those who are perceived as less tolerant are more likely to believe in greater threats of terrorism than those who are tolerant. In an experiment that was done in the article, there was an almost pure one hundred percent link between people who had terrorism fears and support of anti terrorism policies. Essentially this was the people who identified as members of the GOP. The Democrat side of the aisle was considered a bit more skewed as there were people who had little terrorism fears yet supported anti terrorism ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. The WEIRDO Brand WEIRDO is a brand founded in Las Vegas by me, Austin. The same city where the biggest EDC happens to take place only 15 minutes from where I live! Resurrection In A Tale Of Two Cities Kaylee Gilkeyson Mr. Rowe World Literature 29 March 2018 A Tale of Resurrection in Two Cities A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens incorporates many themes, one being resurrection. This theme is used time and time again in the novel. Resurrection is revealed not only in the characters, but in the culture of the book itself. Dickens indicates that resurrection is an influential theme, so much that he combines it with his characters to make the novel have a deeper meaning. Being recalled to life or resurrected is similar to being reborn: In A Tale of Two Cities, many characters are reborn , meaning that they have a new chance at life (Dingyuan and Xiaohua, 91). It was believed that the earthquakes caused the palaces to crumble, and the ash choked off light and killed plants, leaving the survivors to starve. However, recent research suggests otherwise. Most of the ash from the volcano fell in the opposite direction from Crete, and Crete seems to have suffered only a slight dusting of ash. The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger is about an adolescent named Holden who wanders around New York City after being kicked out of a prestigious boarding school in eastern Pennsylvania. Holden even goes as far as to make rules for himself. On page 82, he recounts, I made a rule that I was going to quit horsing around with girls that, deep down, gave me a pain in the ass. I broke it, though, the same week I made it the same night, as a matter of fact (Salinger). He is slowly losing his innocence, and while he hates to admit it, Holden s constant thoughts about sexuality is a sign of adulthood. To him, one should only have sex with someone they truly love. Holden is almost proud of himself for having such a morally correct view of sex. This is why he is so riled when he discovers that Stradlater had sex with Jane Gallagher. Holden realized that Jane barely knew Stradlater and felt that he, if anyone, should be dating Jane. His increasing thoughts on sexuality and loss of a conventional or shielded view of sex show that his loss of innocence is apparent. The Ones Who Walk Away From The Omelas By Ursula Le Guin A dream of ignorance The short story The ones who walk away from the Omelas by Ursula Le Guin does a great job of criticizing the flaws of a capitalist society. What this means is that she talks about how it has become a standard for someone to become happy at the expense of others. In order to demonstrate this she presents a society that guarantees eternal happiness at the expense of a single child who must suffer through it all. The characters are faced with two choices which would be to stay and accept the child s fate or to walk away and leave for the mountains. Both of these choices do not involve helping the child but rather abandoning it in both circumstances. This is a criticism of how people in reality typically treat those who are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Le Guin s exploitation of this in her writing gives us a clear indication of her intended audience. This once again justifies my theory as to why Omelas is based off of a dream she once had. What the dream did was remind of her that there are people out there suffering and being completely ignored. The fact that she contributed towards the continuation of such suffering ultimately inspired her to push for change in public awareness. An important method that Le Guin uses is to maintain respect by not acting angry to the general public. If she was calling out individuals disrespectfully then she herself would be subject to criticism as well. This is why she turns to writing due to past difficulties with public activism. While she did help influence a few people to help spread the word, she gained more public criticism as people found her too demanding(jstor.org). Therefore she switched to becoming an activist through writing literature. Switching through this method has helped gain widespread respect while further popularizing her cause. • 21. Dante And The Road Of Humanism Dante and the Road to Humanism During the Renaissance, the ideology of humanism became extremely popular. After the black plague people presumed that God had abandoned them. As a result, they began to search for their own answers through observation and experimentation; this method was called empiricism. Through this, man began to place himself at the center of the universe instead of God. Individuals began to embrace their own talents and spend less time worrying about the next life and more living in the current one. Humanism was also developed from a desire to re live the Classical time period, or the golden age; therefore, the humanistic education consisted of studies of Greek, Latin, art, music and philosophy. This contemporary way of thinking inspired many philosophers and writers. Throughout Dante s work he emphasizes the concept of humanism, and it is this work that influenced many other philosophers including Petrarch and Boccaccio. Dante Alighieri was born in 1265 in Florence, Italy. Dante was an Italian poet, prose writer, literary theorist, moral philosopher, and political thinker. In the thirteenth century, groups called the Guelfs and the Ghibellines arose. The Guelfs supported the pope, and around 1290 they divided into two groups, the White and Black Guelfs. (500) So the opposite of a matter of fact can be true. The piece of pizza that I bite into could explode in my face even though I had never experienced that before. Matters of fact, or knowledge learned through experience, cannot prove how objects function. People believe in matters of fact because they have some other reason for doing so. Kitchen names nine differences and seven similarities in the two traditions. The two narratives claim that the decision to send the flood as punishment was divine (made by deity); a chosen person (man) is instructed to save himself and his family, together with living animals and to do this he is asked to build an ark (boat); the flood destroys everyone else on the earth. The boat eventually rests on a mountain and the birds are sent out off the boat to see if there is any land that is habitable. The chosen man eventually sacrifices to the divine and humanity is renewed on the earth.[footnoteRef:7] For Kitchen, the differences are that in the Genesis narrative, deity (God) observes the wickedness that was done by the humans on the earth ... • 28. The Mediation Context Of Public Policy Case Title: An International Incident Context and Sources I sought out the mediation context of public policy. More specifically, I was interested in the purpose of international relations. This sort of large scale mediation can literally affect the world as a whole, and may prove to be a key for continued survival of the human race. In researching mediation from an international context, I ran across a number of interesting articles detailing various viewpoints, advances in the field, shortcomings, and examples of successful mediation. The articles and authors I used in the creation of this mediation case are as follows: Alexander, N., Leathes, M., Monberg, T., Vanenkova, I. (2013, August 20). Engineering Peace: Achieving the promise of mediation in the world s most difficult conflicts. One of the biggest problems they face is coordinating discussions between a set of countries (often more than two) that have so many cultural and structural differences from language and traditions, to religion, to gender roles, and any number of other factors. This daunting task also requires a new breed of mediator that are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 29. Newton s Laws of Motion An object at rest stays at rest and an object in motion stays in motion with the same speed and in the same direction unless acted upon by an unbalanced force (Newton s First Law). To determine if a person should run or walk, you will have to understand the Second Law of Motion. The second law states that force equals mass times acceleration. In order for a person of a certain mass to accelerate, that person must use some force, so the force must overcome gravity, friction, and be larger than the mass of the person trying to move (Newton s Second Law of Motion). If you want to walk or run you will need a bigger force (¶ 4). To walk is not as hard as running, so less force is needed to succeed in doing it (Forester). This leads us to the third law of motion, for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction (Newton s Third Law). Another concept of Physics is moving water. For example, flushing the toilet, waterfalls and dams. Flushing a toilet is a great example of transferring energy. Usually on most toilets there is tan on the back of it filled with water. Water that is stored is a great example of potential energy and no kinetic energy. Once toilet is flushed, it gives the water momentum. From waterfalls and dams we can produce hydropower. It is a renewable energy source that converts kinetic energy from falling water into electricity. From the water momentum pushes against the turbine s blades to switch ... In the passage Words Don t Always Mean What They Mean by Steven Pinker, he writes about the nature of language and cognitive science. In his passage, he is analytical and straightforward with analyzing multiple examples of how euphemisms are used and why. He always makes his examples to prove his points and by getting his audience involved and thinking by including rhetorical questions. Words don t mean what they mean because of different interpretations, the complex and euphemism human language, and the manipulation of people s intent. Pinker had also included Gee, Officer, is there any way I could pay the fine right here? and anyone who has sat through a fundraising dinner is familiar with euphemistic schnorring like, We re counting on you to show leadership. (Pinker) The example included someone bribing a police officer with money to try to get out of a ticket but saying it in such a way where it sounds less inappropriate than it would be to bribe a cop. To show how language can be manipulated to insinuate people s intent rather than stating it as a blatant proposition. In paragraph ten of Words Don t Always Mean What They Really Mean, Pinker states, Later he slaps his forehead: Coffee doesn t mean coffee! Coffee means sex! The moment is funny, but it s also a reminder of just how carefully romantic partners must always tread. Make too blatant a request, as in Tootsie, and the hearer is offended; too subtle, as in Seinfeld, and it can go over the hearers head. (Pinker) This was a great example by Pinker because the man completely misunderstood the woman because she disguised the true meaning of what she really wanted. In the article Languages from Bloomsbury Guide to Human Thought, it states Language is a way of communication by symbols. Feelings, ideas, thoughts and wishes are encoded, sometimes manipulated and passed on by the utterer; the receiver then decodes them. (Bloomsbury Guide to Human Thought) ... Use Of Irony In Flannery O Connor s Good Country People In Flannery O Connor s short story Good Country People, O Connor examines Hugla s relationship to her wooden leg and the autonomy it gives her. Hugla sees as her leg as the only thing she s in control of and nothing else in the world matters, and she thinks that she is better than everyone else because she has a doctoral degree in philosophy. O Connor conveys this through irony begging with the story title. As it begins we meet Ms. Freeman, she and her husband have been working for Mrs. Hopewell for four years. • 33. Persuasive Essay On The Joker The scene opens with Darth Vader, one of the greatest villains to exist in a fictional universe. He glides through the doors of the Rebel ship, stormtroopers following closely behind. His all black outfit, cape, helmet, and all stand out against the stark white interior of the ship. His unmistakable breathing echoes throughout the hall, and his light saber clings by his side. All great and memorable villains have several things in common. All great fictional villains have great costumes that make them memorable. For example the Joker from the Batman comic books, as well as the movie adaptations has a great costume. He is most noticeably seen in a royal purple suit, and green or purple tie. His hair is a nasty green color, usually seen slicked back. His defining characteristic lies with his clown makeup, pasty white face paint, and a bright red smile, all which define the name Joker. Another great villain with a memorable costume also belongs to the Batman universe. This villain being The Penguin. The version that has the most notoriety is the one from the Tim Burton Batman film from 1989. The Penguin is seen in a black suit, monocle, and top hat. It is his makeup that really makes him live up to his namesake. His skin is painted a pale white, eyes a sunken in grey color, and a nose made to be elongated to resemble a beak. Here at Virgin Atlantic, we identify and meet customer needs through customer survey questionnaires/ comment cards and customer forums/focus groups. When the survey questionnaires or comment cards have been read by a member for our staff, usually the customer service manager, they then analyse all of the comments to find areas of improvement in order to meet customer needs. For example, if a number of customers have complained about staff not knowing obvious information i.e. directions around the airport, prices of products or check in times, that would tell us that our staff are unequipped to help our customers. From this, we will then need to realise and work our a way to get more information into our staff in order to meet the needs of our customers more efficiently. This can be done in many ways, however the most ideal one for this situation would be to hold regular morning/afternoon meetings to keep staff updated with information. When we exceed customer expectations, we like to go that extra mile by giving out customers more in depth information. An example of this would be when a customer asks simply the time of their flight, we like to make sure that our staff will fully inform our customers of their flight time, boarding time, gate number and if there will be any delays. Understanding the Black Power Movement Introduction Understanding the Black Power Movement as it relates to the creation of Black or African American study programs and departments is to recognize the efforts of radical student activists on college campuses. The prevailing thought of the Black existence casted doubt on the importance of Black/African studies at colleges and universities. Blacks, unfortunately, were thought to not have a history, or at least one not worth examining, in the American existence and even within world civilization. However, such as notion is baseless. In the tens of thousands of years of civilization, Africans have witnessed and contributed to the productivity of the human existence. The great salt and gold kingdoms of the Ghanaian and Malian Empires thrived long before the Hapsburg and Bourbon dynasties rules Spain and France, respectively. Yet, the contributions of those great African civilizations were often ignored in the historiography of early civilizations. Even the contributions of the Ancient Egyptians have become part of the ensemble of the Greek and Roman tragedy, removing Egypt from the history of Africa. The contributions of Black Americans in the history of the United States were virtually absent prior to the creation of Black Study programs and departments.
