Callum Joy documented their process of creating a magazine cover in Photoshop over multiple steps: adding rats and a woodland background; including side story boxes with imported and resized images; adding a title using different fonts and styles; and arranging additional images, text, barcodes, and backgrounds to complete the design. At each step, they noted whether they were happy with the work and any struggles encountered. In the end, they changed the layout and started a double page spread for the second page, importing images to set up the story.
2. Process
• Added a woodland
background and
rats, used the magic
wand tool to remove
the white
background on the
rats.
• Looks pretty nice so
far, happy with my
work.
3. Process
• Added a small box for a
side story to add more
detail to the cover. Used
the rectangle tool and
the textbox tool,
imported the image
from google and resized
it to fit the box.
• Liked this choice, still
happy with how it looks
overall.
4. Process
• Added a title using the
text tool, adds more
detail overall and also
tells the reader what
the product is about.
• Struggled on font
choice but I think it
looks good, also made
the text bold to make
it stand out.
5. Process
• Added another side
story for extra detail
and to fill empty
space using the text
tool and the
rectangle tool.
• Think it adds to the
magazine as a
whole, makes it look
better.
6. Process
• Searched for barcode
and price tag, saved
the images from
google and imported
them into photoshop
where I resized them.
• I still think it looks
good as is and am
happy with the
overlay.
7. Process
• Used the
rectangle tool to
make the
background,
coloured them
different shades
of green because
it fitted well with
the theme of the
magazine.
8. Process
• Added text at the top so it’s clear
what the product is. Used the
text tool and chose ‘Warp text’
• Moved and overlapped images I
imported from google to give it a
more collage look rather than
just compacting everything into
one small cluster.
• Will probably add more images
but wont be noting them down
as it is just more of the same.
9. Process
• I changed the
layout of the
images and text,
also moved the
first page over
to a double page
spread.
10. Process
• (Cropping for
sake of space)
• Started second
page, imported
two images from
google to give an
idea of what the
story is going to
be about.
11. Process
• I got inspiration
from a real story
I found on
google, made
the text bold so
it would stand
out more.
