The document describes Callum Joy's process for producing an album cover and song. It discusses adjusting the album cover by adding borders to make it look neater and adding colors to make elements stand out. It then lists the different tracks of the song, describing how samples and self-created elements were used and adjusted. For most tracks, samples were used from a library and adjusted as needed. The producer discusses how each element fits together and their choices to keep the overall aesthetic and genre intact for the target audience.
2. Process
• Starting production with
album cover, using my
old experiment and
adding onto it because I
like it and feel like it can
convey a general feeling
of what I wanted to
create. I feel like my
target audience would
like this too as its similar
to other artists album
covers that I have seen
before.
3. Process
• Added borders
around the side to
make it look better, I
like it because it
looks way neater
when they're there.
I think it will also
grab peoples
attention a bit
better instead of just
having a flat black
background.
4. Process
• Added white
borders to the face
and halo to make it
stand out more
against the darker
background. I like
how it looks because
it contrasts well with
the colours inside
the face.
5. Process
• Added red lines to the
background because it
looks good with the rest
of the colours and fits in
well with the overall
layout, I like how it looks
and am happy to leave it
as is. I think my target
audience will like this
too because it adds
more to the aesthetic
rather than just leaving
it blank.
6. Process
• Used a combination of samples and keys that I did myself to make the whole
song, forgot to take screenshots so I will just list which track I am talking
about and how I did it
• Vocal- I used pre-set tracks that I found on ‘Bandlab Sounds’ in the bottom
right of the screen, I then clicked and dragged the sample I wanted to use
and put it onto the track then I split it up into parts I would use and parts I
wouldn’t. Also faded it out using automation.
7. Process
• Pad- Definitely more of a background sound to pull the track together,
used another sample here so I don’t have much to explain. I think it
definitely fits though as the main genre includes these a lot and that
would gain the attention of my target audience.
• I think it paired well with the rest of the track and really brought it all
together even if it is overshadowed by the other tracks at some points.
8. Process
• Keys- Used a mix of my own work (highlighted with blue) and a
sample on this track, I made parts of the track pretty simple, basic
notes, I think it pairs quite well with the drums and the guitars,
happy how good it came out. It also mixes in well with the rest of
the track and subtly effects the genre because changing it too
much could have changed how the entire song felt.
9. Process
• Drums- I used a sample for the drums, I also turned it up a little
bit using automation (The lines on screen) paired very well with
the rest of the track, I like how it came out very much and don’t
think I would have changed anything with it other than maybe
keeping it more consistent throughout the track.
10. Process
• Guitar- Used another sample for the guitar, I think it fits
in well while also changing the pace of the song, could
have had a smoother transition from Bar 41 into Bar 45
but I'm happy with how I did it.
11. Process
• Bass- Not as predominant as bass would usually be but still makes
a big difference on the rest of the song, I didn’t use a sample for
this one, I did the base by myself and made it a simple enough
track that it wouldn’t overlap the drums too much in the section
where they do play at the same time. I then converted it into an
audio track rather than a midi track because I needed to change it
to B minor like the rest of the track.
