2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

1. Preschool Year 2
6-17 November
Dear Parents,
Activities we will be doing in Preschool
Over the next 2 weeks we will continue to talk about autumn and all the
wonderful changes we can see, as well as hearing all about the children’s
bonfire night experiences. There will be lots of craft activities to allow the
children to express themselves through different media.
We will also begin to think about Christmas!! The children will start to
make their nativity stables and we will start to rehearse the Christmas
play.
Activities to do at home
Go to the park with your child and talk about the different colours and
items you can see. Make an autumn picture with your child using crayons
and autumn leaves you have found and bring them into Preschool so we
can display them on our walls. We appreciate all different types of
pictures!
Notices
Please can you bring in any adult size shoe boxes you have in order for us
to make the Christmas nativity stables.
Our Christmas Play will be on the last day of term – Tuesday 19 December
at 9.30 am. Further information will be given out soon but if you have any
queries about this please see Julie Twist this week.
Don’t forget Drop in will start this Thursday for year twos at 11.30 in the
morning and 3.30 in the afternoon. This will be a chance for you to play
with your child in Preschool and see the activities they enjoy doing. There
will be a sign up sheet in the parent’s area tomorrow for you to sign if you
want to come this week. As this is a weekly activity please don’t feel any
pressure to come every week or any week.
