• My name is Marcus I like
skateboarding, video games

writing about lemurs
because I think they are
interesting and funny
looking. I think this project
will be a fun experience.

3. Who am I?
• The lemur is a primate .
That means they are
related to apes and
humans! The lemur has
a body length of an
average of 20 inches
and the tail by itself is
another 20 inches long!

4. The Early Years
• Some species of lemurs have
litters of two or more young.
Other species such as the
ring tailed lemur only have
one baby at a time. When a
baby is born it latches on to
its mom’s belly. It feeds on
its mother’s milk. At about 3
weeks of age the baby starts
riding piggyback. When the
lemur is three months old,
the mother sends it out to
get its own food!

5. Habitat Sweet Habitat
• Lemurs live in hot
forests and live in trees.
Although their homes
are being destroyed and
being made into resorts
and hotels.

6. What’s on the Menu?
• A lemur’s diet consists
of bugs , plants, fruits
and small animals. To
get food they use their
claws and nails. They
find their food on the
jungle floor and in
trees.

7. Making Tracks
• Most lemurs are arboreal but
the ring tailed lemur spends
most of its time on the
ground. The lemur’s fingers
and toes all end in nails
which helps them grasp on
to trees and small objects.
The second toe of the hind
foot of most of the species
has a long claw that the
lemur uses to comb itself.

8. Simply Irresistible!
• At least 14 species of
lemurs are extinct and
about 30 species remain
but several are on the
endangered list.Lemurs
communicate vocally
and through sent
markings.

9. Where in the World?
• The only place you can
find lemurs in their
natural habitat is in
Madagascar.The lemur’s
habitat is being
destroyed and their
homes are being
demolished.

10. Did You Know?
• Did you know almost all
lemurs live up to 18
years. They also have
very keen hearing and a
good sense of smell.
Lemurs also have
opposable thumbs.
