A Platypuses Life

  Allison
About the author

My name is Allison. I like
           to play with my friends,
           outside,and pets. I love
           school.I am writing
           about this animal
           because I think they are
           interesting to learn
           about and people learn
           about this animal
           because they are not
           as popular as other
           animals.
Who am I?
            Platypuses are 20 inches
            long including the tail. Their
            weight is about 3 pounds
            when they are adults. They
            are mammals that lay eggs.
            When on land they move
            awkward, but the webbing
on their feet retracts , to
            expose individual nails and
allows the creatures to run. It
takes ten days to hatch in a
            burrow.
The Early Years
                   Females nurse their young
                  for three up four months
until they can swim on their
own. The young lick the fur
                  around any aboriginals
                  openings of the glands
                  because the female lacks.
When born born they are the
size of a lima bean and they
                  are very helpless.
Habitat Sweet Habitat
                The platypuses habitat
is near a river or stream
to make a burrow to lay
                eggs of their young.
                They live in a small
                burrow when it is not
                breeding season. In
                breeding season they
                build a larger burrow so
                they have room for their
                young.
What’s on the Menu?
         The platypus eats
         invertebrates as
         caddis, mayfly, and
         dragonfly larvae,
         freshwater shrimp,
         crayfish and
         earthworms.
Making Tracks
      Platypus tracks look
      like webbed feet
      with five toes and
      small sharp claws.
      You will find these
      near streams or
      rivers, and by their
      burrows.
Simply Irresistible !
        The male platypus
        has poison on their
        back feet stingers .
        Platypuses swim by
        using alternate
        strokes of their
        webbed feet. When
        swimming they
        create bow waves.
Where in the World?
        Platypuses are
        found Australia and
        in a certain range.
        They are not found
        any other parts of
        the but Australia.
1. They are also Platypuses are only
called duckbill. 2. as tall as less than a

under their fur. 3. standing up on 2

Only one,two, or
three eggs are laid
at one time.
