Flamingos live in saline lakes and lagoons lacking vegetation. They feed by filtering shrimp, fish, and insects from the water with their unique bills. Flamingos can be found in western America, northern Europe, and northeast Africa, living in both the eastern and western hemispheres. However, flamingos are dying by the thousands due to toxic bacteria in the water and some have been killed for their fat which was believed to cure tuberculosis.
