Why Huckleberry Finn Should Not Be Banned
I would like to bring up the situation on banning books. In our 8th grade Language Arts class we have
been assigned a project to read a banned or challenged book and determine whether or not the we
think that our book should be approved or banned. I chose the book The Adventures of Huckleberry
Finn and discovered almost immediately why this book was banned.
Over the years since has been published, many have been tried to ban this book but their attempts have
never succeeded . Many of this book s readers think that this book is racist and contains inappropriate
language. In fact most of the time this book has been out it has either been banned or challenged since
it was first published in 1885.

Feminism In The Novel Herland
There are many different ways one may view a utopian society. While looking back in a historical
context of feminism, we may see feminism through a political aspect in a utopian society. The
connection between feminism and utopianism could be drastic if viewing in a historical context
because of the want of a perfect world which would include the equality of women. When reviewing
the novel Herland written by Charlotte Perkins Gilman, the author demonstrates her strong views on
feminism throughout the novel in many different ways. Gilman addresses gender roles throughout her
novel to express her own views of feminism in the late first wave of the feminist movement. To
understand the novel Herland in a historical context one must understand the challenges women have
faced in the mid 1800 s including the aspects of motherhood, marriage and not having the opportunity
to work.
Motherhood has changed throughout the world especially in today s time. In the 20th century women
tend to juggle many different aspects besides motherhood such as a job, school and their own
responsibilities. In the novel Herland the men in the novel express motherhood differently than the
basic norms. The women in the novel are not only expressed as doing the normal duties of a mother
such as cooking, cleaning and taking care of the children. In fact the women in the novel are shown
doing jobs a man would do. In the novel Gilman created her own utopian society where females were
superior and the roles

Conformity Experiment
Conformity is a situation of changing one s behavior in order to match the actions of the society
around the person. The social influence cause people to agree or even behave like the majority of the
people in the specific group so that the group can perceive them as normal. Solomon Asch (1956) was
interested to know the act of people in conformity pressure. Because of that, he created an experiment
to investigate the process by asking college students in a group of eight to match the lengths of
different lines. The experiment shows that 95% of the students correctly match 12 lines without
pressure of group. Ash repeats the experiment by changing the situation. The students now need to
hear answers of five other people who are actually confederates ... Show more content on

I personally had an experience in which a salesperson was trying to induce compliance but he failed to
persuade me. He came to me asking me to taste some free food. When I took the food he suddenly
show me the products he sell and wants me to buy them. The salesperson tried to use the compliance
technique to me but unfortunately he didn t succeed. In my opinion, the salesperson didn t have
enough experience to persuade people effectively. Outcome that he should use in order to make more
customers is by using the liking or friendship influence. (Kenrick, Neuberg, Cialdini, 2010). The idea
of this method is customers more prefer to buy things from people they know and like. The
salesperson should have a little talk or asking a simple question as How was you day so that me as a
customer will like him and say yes to buy his

How People Give Up Rights When Using an Airline
Many people modern day use airlines as a form of transportation. To be able to use this service
passengers must have their bags and personal belongings checked by the airline. Airlines do this for
the safety of their passengers and to ensure that no catastrophe happens during flight. But when this is
done are passengers giving up their rights? Is it right for someone to go through your personal
belongings? Or is this procedure only for security reasons? What rights do airplane passengers give up
by allowing themselves to be checked before boarding?
When Someone travels with an airline they must have their baggage checked before boarding the
plane. Some people feel that this invades their privacy and that it is not necessary. Why ... Show more

3. The owner of the firearm must be at the screening or the item and provide the combination or key to
open the secure container containing the firearm. 4.ant and all ammunition must be placed in fiber or
packaging specifically designed to hold ammunition. And 5. The ammunition must be in the same
container as the unloaded firearm. As long as when traveling with a firearm you follow all of these
procedures you can legally bring a gun with you while traveling with an airline. Once again these
rules might restrict your rights as an American citizen but they do NOT take away your rights as an
American citizen. And there is also rules with sharp objects such as knives. The only rule that there is
on these items is,1. It can not be in carry on luggage and it must be securely wrapped to prevent injury.
So once again it is one hundred percent legal to bring a weapon with you while flying with an airline
service. Also if someone fells that having their baggage checked is taking away their rights that is also
not true. The FAA (a government run organization) enforces these rules and regulations for the airline
passengers safety and for no other reason except for the passenger s safety. Also by having these rules
enforced by the government they can not possibly eliminate your rights as an American citizen
(although they might restrict them temporarily). And concerning the rule for having baggage checked,
it is up to the airlines to charge

My Experience As An Educator
Reflecting over this semester I have come to the realization the more time I have had teaching has
made me as an educator, more prepared for each and everyday. When I think back to last year and
compare how prepared and confident I felt, there is no comparison where I stand today. Within this
semester, I have grown immensely as an educator from taking on new roles from having a K state
education student observe with me for 40 hours, to presenting at the state KSDE conference, and to
many more adventures in which I have yet to experience. Even though it has only been a semester, I
feel this year is flying by and I am constantly reflecting on last year s experiences and changing this
years experience for the better.
When comparing my experiences from last year as a new educator I have realized this year I am more
prepared and ready to get started each and every day. For example, all of my lessons were well
thought out and prepared for each and every class period. When creating and deciding what lessons I
wanted to teach to my students I planed out my first semester of classes during the summer, which has
made me prepared for this this school year. I also feel my classroom management skills have
improved as well, since this year I have more experience under my belt and I am constantly reflecting
if I am managing my classes with the best skills possible. I also am constantly collaborating with other
teachers for feedback on areas of improvement, which has really pushed me to be

Pricing Strategies And Marketing Strategies
Pricing strategies can vary from offering relatively stable prices across a wide range of products,
which is known as Everyday Low Pricing (EDLP) or Promotional Pricing (PROMO) which involves
emphasising deep and frequent discounts on smaller sets of goods (Ellickson and Misra, 2008). The
EDLP store adopts a constant everyday low prices across a wide range of product categories, whereas
PROMO or Hi Lo stores occasionally price a category at the regular price or at a deep discount (Bell
and Lattin, 1998). Ellickson and Misra (2008) argue that the concept of choosing the best pricing
strategy is a complex process as it forces firms to balance the preferences of their consumers, as well
as taking into account their competitors performances in terms of the store pricing and market share.
Supermarket Pricing Strategies (Ellickson and Misra, 2008)
Ellickson and Misra (2008) established that supermarkets typically cluster in terms of pricing
strategies, and therefore stores using the same strategies are likely to be found within close proximity
of each other. Evidence from the study showed that consumer demographics played a significant role
in the choice of pricing strategy. The result from the study carried out by using a discrete choice model
which explains and predicts choices between two or more discrete alternatives; which in this case the
study focused on three choices EDLP, PROMO and Hybrid. The study demonstrated that
demographics and firm characteristics are

Essay on Effective Communication Case Study
Effective Communication Case Study Analysis Communication can be defined as the act of
transmitting information. Effective communication is a two way process. Information that flows back
and forth between sender and receiver is considered effective (Clark 2003). For example, an
organization communicates to their publics and then begins to look for feedback from their customers
to ensure that everyone understands the message. Sometimes the feedback is not verbal and
organizations can only measure the effectiveness by analyzing consumers actions (Clark 2003). Some
companies have a great understanding of their customers and excel with effective communication.
One such company is Johnson Johnson. The purpose of this paper is to present a ... Show more

The company started by sending out a nationwide alert to all doctors and all distributors (Bell, n.d.).
The company then issued a massive recall of 31 million bottles of Tylenol (Bell, n.d.). Johnson
Johnson issued the recall even after the company found out that the products were tampered with after
the bottles reached the stores (Bell, n.d.). According to Albert Tortorella, Manager of the firm that
advised Johnson Johnson, Before 1982, nobody ever recalled anything (Rehak, 2002). This PR tactic
showed the public that the company was ethically motivated to protect the people at any cost. The
decision is estimated to have cost the company over $100 Million (Rehak, 2002). However, the benefit
to the company was consumer trust. Upon the return to the market, the PR department issued coupons
for $2.50 to get consumers to buy the new product (Susi, 2002). They also introduced a lower pricing
plan to attract buyers to their product (Susi, 2002). To inform the public about the crisis Johnson
Johnson was not alone. Local police in the Chicago are drove around through neighborhoods
announcing the danger of the pain medicine and informed everyone that was present of the recall
(Bell, n.d.). An objective third party kept the public informed about the crisis. The Food and Drug
Administration (FDA) helped Johnson Johnson calm the public by holding several press conferences
(Center and Jackson, 2003). Not to mention the news media captured every quote from

The Relationship Between Utopia And Dystopia
Utopia one can say Utopia is portrayed as an ideal society in a hypothetical no place . A central
difficulty of utopian fiction is the lack of dramatic conflict, a state of perfection, is inherently
uneventful. The counter concept to Utopia is Dystopia, in which hopes for betterment is replaced by
electrifying fears of the ugly consequences of the present day behavior. Utopias tended to have a
placid gloss of phony benevolence, while Dystopias displayed somewhat satanic thunder. Utopias
commonly featured moderns undergoing an experiment to the utopian mind set after which all action
stopped. On the other hand, Dystopia is a character representing modern is excitingly chased down,

Dissolution of marriage including child support and custody issues
Facts
Forest and Olive Green have decided to obtain a dissolution of marriage, after twenty years of
marriage. She and Mr. Green have already had several arguments concerning child support
arrangements for their children Kelly Green, age 14, and Moss Green, age 10. Mrs. Green thinks that
it would be best for the children if she and Mr. Green had joint custody of the children. Along with
this, Mrs. Green wants to be able to receive child support from Mr. Green because due to her lack of
job experience she thinks it is unlikely that she can find a job that will support herself and the
children. Mr. Green who is a corporate executive who ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since Mr. and Mrs. Green intend on having joint custody of the children, it looks as if all aspects of
rearing the children, including expenses as well as decision making would be shared among the
parents. Although it is shared , that does not signify that it will be equally shared. The court will
determine, based on the formula contained in the Kentucky Child Support Guidelines, what each
parent pays. Furthermore, since Mrs. Green is without income as a homemaker, it seems as though
some sort of child support payment should be paid in regards to the children while they are residing in
her home. Also, if Mr. Green takes a job, earning less income due to health problems, this may affect
the amount of child support he would be obligated to pay, but it shouldn t keep him from being
required to pay some sort of child support. This job change can cause the court to deviate from the
guidelines. However, the court may look at Mrs. Green s unemployment as being voluntary. Thus, the
court may not use that issue in determining the child support Mr. Green should be obligated to pay.
The court will probably not order Mrs. Green to obtain employment, but in looking at the facts, there
is no valid reason as to her unemployment, and it may be in the

The Silent Killer Short Story
The Silent Killer
Reginald and Timothy
Let me recount to all of you the tale of Reginald. Reginald was a corporate lawyer based in New York
and lived there with his wife and four children. Reginald s life was rich and full of joy and happiness.
Years went by and Reginald retired with his family and moved to the great state of Utah. Months later
Reginald s wife died of cancer and his children all moved away to start their futures at college. At that
point in time, Reginald found himself completely alone, depressed, and unable to leave his house
without assistance. But why is he depressed? Some would argue that he lived a successful life and he
has no reason to be depressed. While this is true some of the time what most people don t see what is
really going on. Reginald often finds himself stilling alone day after day with no one visiting him and
being unable to leave. Reginald is suffering from social isolation however this does not just affect the
elderly or those who don t have family around.
Let s take a look at Reginald s child Timothy. Timothy moved away to college just a few months after
his mother died. He knows a few people and he does is go to class, comes home, and does his
homework. Timothy does this day after day and sits at home every day. Timothy tries to get out of the
house but he feels that he doesn t have any friends but more like acquaintances. Timothy, much like
his father, is suffering from social isolationism and it is a silent epidemic. People find

The Political Landscape Of South Eastern Asia
Introduction: The political landscape of South Eastern Asia
The politics of South Eastern Asia in respect to the conflicts of India Pakistan Kashmir dispute and the
Korean Peninsula dispute, are really leftover cleavages by greater powers that occupied/supported the
respective regions. Hence like all leftover problems of the ages past, it is complicated by nature.
However as all actors seek to win the favor of great powers once more, the regional power, China is
facing a complicated problem, the problem of having to supporting an ungrateful ally and supporting
an ally that won t win, all involved in conflicts that can t be solved in the foreseeable future. China,
despite having a personal benefit and loss in both, really has no idea what she is doing.
A rivalry of ideology: The conflict between North and South Korea
When we talk about the conflict between North and South Korea, we need to go back to the history of
Korean War in 1950(), which is also a part of the Cold war. During this conflict, there were also some
international power interventions, the United States of America, USSR and PRC were all get involved
to some extend. On June 25, 1950, the troops of Communist Kim II Sung crossed the dividing line and
separate the Korean Peninsula into two separate parts between the South and the North because of
South Korea s constant defiance (). This is also considered as the beginning of the Korean War as well
as pulls the rivalry history of North and South Korea open.

Analysis Of Orson Welles And Herman Mankiewicz
Citizen Kane figures in one of the most influential, and greatest filmography works of all time.
However, the making of its fame was rather rough. Orson Welles and Herman Mankiewicz were the
screenwriters for this movie, Welles was the leading director; therefore, he had the final saying in the
contributions to the movie. Both writers worked separately when developing the story, only having the
main character defined: Charles Foster Kane it is pertinent to say that I think Foster is supposed to be
ironic considering his morose childhood . Welles had a rough childhood, which is portrayed in the
film, since he came from a broken home and lost his hardworking mother when he was nine. The
origins of Kane s personality is sort of like a mixture between allusions to Welles miserable childhood
due to his parents divorce, and later the death of his mother in his first ten years of life; and also an
exposé of William Hearst s life. Hearst is arguably one of the most influential American journalists
and main contributor of the creation of yellow journalism basically, headlines with information that
had almost no support for its claimings . Kane s character is mainly built out of these two pivotal
events, hence his childhood, passion for yellow journalism, and obsession with power over papers.
The category for this film is called film à clef, and just like roman à clef for novels, this means that the
work is describing real life situations, or characters are minimally changed

How Did Barack Obama Use Humor In Pop Culture
It s 2016 and Barack Obama s 8th year of going to the presidential dinner at the White House, where

Some topics that are usually uncomfortable to talk about can be brought up and talked about when it
used through the use of humor. Racism is a prime example of this because you re not usually going to
just start talking about racism in a conversation but if it is brought up in a joke people can talk about it
and laugh about it. One dramatic way that racist humor has been spread throughout the world is over
the internet. Youtube is a great example of this because most the comedy videos uploaded in today s
world will have some kind of rude or racist humor that jabs at someone or some other race. One
example would be with Key Peele videos and how racist they are in their videos but what makes them
different is that they are trying to teach a lesson with their videos. Such as in their video named Racist
Zombies when there is a zombie apocalypse and all the white people in the world are turned into
zombies but there are no black zombies because they aren t attacked. The point behind that video is
that they are trying to teach about racism and how bad it is looked upon but they use comedy to
somewhat mask the pain from the racism but still get a point

The Case Of Dr. Jekyll And Mr. Hyde
Among the words used to describe the elitist Victorians, hypocrites may very well be the most popular.
This supposed generation of Do Gooders, with their heightened sense of morality, repressed sexuality
and increased piety, were actually far from perfect. They had an exceptional list of standards by which
they claimed to dutifully abide, but more often than not fell short of. The Victorians were, in the words
of literary critic Walter Houghton, brilliant actors able to [conceal] or [suppress] their true convictions
and their natural tastes (146). The matter of Victorian hypocrisy, as it has come to be known, has been
scrutinized by a plethora of critics and authors alike. However, the moral façade that has come to be
associated with the Victorian era was perhaps first criticized in Robert Louis Stevenson s Strange Case
of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Apart from being an exceptional Gothic work, Stevenson s novella is an
excellent critique of the hypocrisy that dominated the Victorian era. In his novella, Strange Case of Dr.
Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, Robert Louis Stevenson uses the characters of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde to expose
the double standards and moral pretensions that governed Victorian society. Dr. Jekyll, the protagonist
in Stevenson s Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, is the ultimate embodiment of the standards
of morality by which the upper class Victorians claimed to abide. In the novella, Dr. Jekyll is a
righteous, upstanding member of the elitist

In our case, Microsoft developed a new operating system Windows Vista as the solution for the
problems of Windows XP rather than developing patches and upgraded versions to provide solution.
This has resulted in failure to recognize the actual problem which should occur during the

When Windows XP was released in 2001, there were about 600 million computers used worldwide.
Approximately 90% of them were running Windows but it was split between two code bases:
Windows 95/98 (65%) and Windows NT/2000 (26%), according to IDC. One of the challenging task
of Windows XP was to unite the Windows 9x and Windows NT code bases, and it eventually
accomplished that.

The Most Common Way Computers Use Communication
Society is based on flourishing technology. The main source of technology today is computers.
Computers are everywhere and they have many modern uses. Without computers the modern
generation would not exist. Since computers have such an important role in communicating and
gaining information, it would almost be impossible to perform these activities without them. Over the
past few years, computers have become an essential asset in the way business industries run and make
decisions. Computers are transforming the way one lives; they have impacted every aspect of social
and business life. Therefore, one must have knowledge of basic computer skills and software in order
to keep up in the business world because these skills are essential in communication, management,
and research.
Communication is the key to gain and maintain clients and other important contacts (Crowder). Email
is the most common way computers use communication. An email account gives a business quick
access to instant messaging in addition to contacts. Being able to contact coworkers from a computer
has made communication extremely efficient. Every company has an email for customer service so
they can keep their customers updated and satisfied. When companies hire new employees, they
usually look through a personal email with someone s resume attached to it. This gives the employer
quick and easy feedback to see if someone fits the qualifications of the company. So, an applicant has

Building Concrete Structures Of Building Solid Stone...
Materials like tile covered concrete quickly supplanted marble as the primary building material and
more daring buildings soon followed, with great pillars supporting broad arches and domes rather than
dense lines of columns suspending flat architraves. Concrete also inspired the colonnade screen, a row
of ornamental columns in front of a load bearing wall. For smaller buildings, concrete s strength freed
the floor plan from rectangular cells to a more free flowing environment. Most of these developments
are described by Vitruvius writing in the first century AD in his work De Architectura. Ancient Roman
concrete was a mixture of lime mortar, sand with stone rubble, pozzolana, water, and stones, and
stronger than previously used concrete. The ancient builders placed these ingredients in wooden
frames where it hardened and bonded to a facing of stones or (more frequently) bricks. Concrete
construction proved to be more flexible and less costly than building solid stone buildings. The
materials were readily available and not difficult to transport. The wooden frames could be used more
than once, allowing builders to work quickly and efficiently. On return from campaigns in Greece, the
general Sulla returned with what is probably the most well known element of the early imperial
period: the mosaic, a decoration of colorful chips of stone inset into cement. This tiling method took
the empire by storm in the late first century and the second century and in the Roman home joined

Research finds that the employees realized many difficulties of the modification of work routines,
especially concerning work performance, professional knowledge, and professional role, but
employees recognized the change as an opportunity for the acquisition of knowledge and competence
development. Griffin, (1991) studies the Effects of Work Redesign on Employee Perceptions,
Attitudes, and Behaviors. A Long Term Investigation. The results emerged from this study shows a
pattern that holds clear implications for practicing managers and task design intellectuals. First, the
task redesign hindrance significantly distorted employee perceptions in the expectation and desired
directions. Furthermore, the altered perceptions remained at their new level for the duration of the
study. Second, attitudes including satisfaction and commitment also increased quickly but then
reduced back to their initial levels. Finally, performance did not increase initially, but did increase a lot
by the end of the study period. For empirical researchers, perhaps the most important finding from this
study was the differential pattern of changes across time periods. Researchers need to be more
sensitive to the nature of perceptual, attitudinal, and behavioral variables. The findings reported here
emphasize the need to retain work redesign as a practical tool for enhancing

Illegal Vehicle Abuse Research Paper
This incident happened in the City of Auburn, County of King, Washington.
On 3 3 3016 at about 1830 hrs I was westbound on SE 312th ST near the intersection of 112th ST SE,
when I was alerted, via my in car automated license plate reader system (ALPR), to a possible stolen
vehicle. The ALPR indicated the vehicle, WA/AUY8263 had just passed my vehicle heading
eastbound toward 124th ST
SE.
I advised dispatch, via radio, of the plate and dispatch advised the vehicle was a reported stolen
vehicle through Kent PD, OCA 16 4607. Dispatch later confirmed the vehicle as stolen with Kent PD.
By the time I turn my vehicle around, I noticed the vehicle making a right turn from SE 312th ST to
southbound 121st PL SE. I initiated my overhead lights ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As the passenger exited the vehicle I ordered him to the ground. The male complied and I placed him
into handcuffs, per my training. I advised the male of his Miranda Rights, to which he stated he was a
juvenile. I then advised him of the additional warnings to a juvenile. The male stated that he
understood his rights and that he would speak with police.
The male initially stated that his name was Dezmon Ah Siu 3 21 00. However, later he stated that he
had lied and that his name was actually Jerome Ah Sui. After a check through WACIC/NCIC, it was
found that he had a no bail juvenile misdemeanor warrant for Youth at Risk. Post Miranda, Officer
Minkler spoke with
Jerome and he stated that he knew the vehicle was stolen. Furthermore, Jerome stated he knew who
stole the vehicle, but did not disclose the information. See
Officer Minkler s supplemental report for further information and her contact with
Jerome.
After a long pursuit and track with included Kent PD K9 Officer Tung and King

A Look at Ethical Perspectives Essay example
A Look at Ethical Perspectives While it would be nice to think that it is easy to make decisions and all
come to the same conclusion, this is not always the case. Unfortunately, even regarding ethical
decisions where you may think a right and wrong way exist may not be easy to determine. Since
everyone has different backgrounds and therefore, different perspectives, we may not agree on what
the best course of action is to take in a difficult decision. While I believe that character is the most
important, someone else may think that as long as the majority is satisfied that their decision is best.
An exercise created by the Williams Institute for Ethics and Management looks at four different
perspectives which are referred to using ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ultimately the boss found someone else to lie to the customer, but when he needed to find someone to
trust, he would go to Matt. Not every decision is this easy to make, but through study and close
attention to mistakes made by myself and others, I am able to increase the wisdom needed to give a
virtuous answer.
Obligation
The names of the perspectives speak mostly for themselves. Obligation is making sure that the
decision that is made is fair to all and that everyone is treated as equals (Weiss, 2006). The thought is
that we should have a duty to all humanity. This however, presents a challenge when attempting to
make a prompt decision and having to analyze the consequences that it will have on everyone. When
choices are made from this perspective, an individual may not use his or her first thought of what is
right or wrong, but instead what they think the majority of people would identify as being right.
Generally this would be very similar to the character perspective as considering the effect on society
as a whole would be an honest choice; however, this may not always be the case. When I consider
integrity, I think of Godly values which are occasionally distorted by society due to man believing that
he knows what is best.
Results
In most business decisions, organizations have to determine if the ends justify the means. This is the
correct method most of the time, but may not be acceptable in all ethical decisions. However, someone
who has this

Functional Behavior Assessment A Behavior Intervention Plan
Introduction Under Functional Behavior Assessment a Behavior intervention plan or a BIP is a
detailed outline designed for a specific behavior that a child may be experiencing. The detailed
outlined is used to change the behavior of concern examples are off task behaviors meaning; drawing
when the child is supposed to be working on an academic task or oppositional behaviors meaning;
child often argues with adults or people in authority. There are many reasons a child should have a
BIP. One reason is to reduce problem behaviors so that a child may learn to the best of his/her ability
and another is to keep themselves and others safe in the environment that they are in. For this
behavioral assessment I have chosen scenario # 1. A third grade student in a public elementary school
has been referred for behavior problems continuously for the past three months. This student is
demonstrating consistently disruptive behaviors in this classroom and in other settings within the
school (lunch, recess, specials, etc.). Disruptive behaviors have been termed aggressive and non
compliant by school staff. Kyle entered the Vanderbilt Elementary School in the third grade. He has
had a great deal of managing and regulating his behavior, cooperating with teachers directives, and
maintaining appropriate behaviors at various locations and times of the school day (lunch, recess,
specials, etc.) for the past three months. Not only does his behavior interfere with his own learning

We Real Cool Poem Summary
Mortality is the state of being subject to death. For centuries, authors have been pondering the answer
to the question why does someone have to die and could they escape death. In Colette Inez s poem,
Back When All Was Continuous Chuckles , the speaker and Doris have a very humorous view on
death before a tragic event occurs that enlightens the pair to reality. The poem, We Real Cool by
Gwendolyn Brooks, is about a group of pool players that describes their actions which will lead to
severe suspected consequences. In the poems, Back When All Was Continuous Chuckles by Colette
Inez and We Real Cool by Gwendolyn Brooks, reflects a theme of mortality based on the shifting

Colette Inez uses diction to aid in developing the tone to cause a surprising emotion from the reader.
The author uses words that are carefree and almost playful, such as silly , freaky and har har to
contrast what is really occurring during the poem. It is not until the last stanza that the author depicts a
depressing and somber mood that catches the readers off guard. This showcases that the realization
that everyone is subject to death is unexpected and unpredictable. However, Gwendolyn Brooks uses
diction to add a sense of identity by using the word we instead of I, he, or she. This particular example
of diction creates a group of individuals that are defined by their rebellious action and are at odds with
society. The group identity delays or cripples the awareness of mortality and increases the strength of
the belief in immortality. The authors utilization of diction is not the only major contrast there is in
these two poems there is also the difference in the child like

The Mermaid Theme
I thought martial arts was my forte, but then I realized I wasn t the only person that could do this when
I got into show business. Compared to others, I wasn t really that good. So, I became a children s TV
program host. This came from the mouth of one of the famous comedy film directors named Stephen
Chow.
One of the films I like is The Mermaid which is a romantic comedy film directed by Stephen Chow. It
was released in the year 2016 and it also broke a few box office records such as the biggest opening
day and biggest single day gross in China. The main characters of this film are played by actor Deng

Mermaid , Deng Chao played the male lead role of Liu Xuan, in which he did a good job of it. Deng

also has high popularity in China so it would be a good choice of having popular actors being the lead
role to attract interest in audiences. As for the female lead role, Stephen Chow chose Lin Yun to be the
mermaid as her personality of genuineness is suitable for the role of Shan the

The Life of an Immigrant Black Woman Essay
Hardship and loss of freedom comes to mind as I think about an immigrant black woman. If they had
other forms of persuasion other then the glamour or positive side of England that they heard about

black woman still be as naïve?
Once becoming a part of a different society, she has to adapt to the ways that she is unfamiliar with.
She has to erase in a form of what she knows and feels is correct to from her true self. I am staring
painfully at an image. My image? No! what is left of what once used to be my image . (Darko p1) The

wife from my little African village, Naka, to him in the city . (Darko p3) When those so called
traditional courts ask him what gives him the right, his self righteous excuse is, I bought her. Why, he
can even quote the amount! That s just too much. What is a woman worth, after all? And who has the
right to make such audacious calculations? (Maraire p34) She would only be known to work and
provide for her family with no questions asked or help provided. Even the field of work is already
picked without knowing or without consent. There is no equality in which she may know from her
home. Traditions are left behind as a part of her adapting to the new life and ways even if she tries to
follow them, they are considered wrong in that country because they do not understand. You must not
take the Western anthropologists view of our culture. They perceive our customs through their lens.
There are terms and customs that cannot be translated adequately into their language and so become
distorted . (Maraire p32) When she arrives at this grand place of opportunity, she is thrown into a glum

How Do Recent Legislative Developments Affect The British...
When critically analysing how recent legislative developments have affected the British Constitution,
there are many different aspects to take into consideration. We need to consider the nature of the
British Constitution, which has been widely accepted as uncodified, being found in Acts of
Parliament, Court Judgements and Conventions. Whilst there is no written document forming the
Constitution, there are understood to be governing principles. These include the need for the
separation of powers and Parliamentary sovereignty. Three primary legislative developments affecting
these principles are: The separation of powers within the United Kingdom, the Legislature, the
Judiciary and the Executive, have been made much clearer over the years, ... Show more content on

The main issue that should first be outlined is that it can be argued that the Human Rights Act causes
an imbalance. The Act favours the judiciary over both the executive and the legislature as it gives the
judiciary the power to impose their authority over the other two. Section 3 of the Act gives the
judiciary the power to read and give effect to primary and secondary legislation in a way which will be
most compatible with the Convention Rights. This puts the judiciary in a sufficiently decent position
when interpreting legislation passed by the executive and the legislature due to the Act allowing them
to declare incompatibility with the European Convention on Human Rights and therefore negating the
provision in question. The case of R v A demonstrates the challenges that other legislation has faced
due to the ability for the judiciary to declare incompatibility. This was due to section 41 of the Youth
Justice and Criminal Evidence Act 1999 restricting the admissibility at trial of evidence relating to the
sexual behaviour of those who made allegations of rape. The aim of Parliament was clearly to prevent
making the victim uncomfortable by being asked questions of sexual history which could impact
willingness to report crime and the prospects of a successful prosecution. However the judiciary
position was that upholding the defendant s Article 6 right to a

Discuss Fritz Lang s Metropolis and Charlie Chaplin s Modern Times
Very few movies portray the relationship between the government and civilian masses during trying
moments such as Fritz Lang s Metropolis , and Charlie Chaplin s Modern Times . These are two
critically acclaimed films made in the late 1920 s and mid 1930 s. The time period captured is the
great depression, and examine the role of the governing authorities in relation to those governed.
Metropolis simply passes as one of the original science fiction movies in the world, and it has vivid
imagery in it. Its main themes revolve around cultural exploitation and political issues facing the
citizenry. It is set in Germany and tells the story of a metropolis where there are ... Show more content

It concentrates on the effects of know how on the society and how human beings are living side by
side with them. They effects of mechanization are evident from the opening scene of this film where
workers are being monitored by machines in a factory lending credence to his view of human
enslavement by technology. At the time of making the film, America was going through high
unemployment rates, and corporate downfall as a result of the great depression. Hence, the idea of
saving money and time so as to amass huge profits came up hence the introduction of machines to
work on behalf of humans.
Many film critics have argued that these two films resemble each other even though they were
produced almost a decade apart. Both are about the suffering of the ordinary person in the hands of a
ruthless upper class. The ordinary man is seeking to live in a normal environment where there are no
controls, and work is not mechanized. They all talk about a future where machines take over from
human beings and do all the work. The machines even subdue the humans. In both films machines are
at the centre of businesses as they make work easier, and increase profits for the elite. Governments in
a capitalistic society do not control businesses. Furthermore, in both films the government is unable to
take care of the masses as the elitist control all the resources available.
In Metropolis , it represents a capitalistic society where only those with the means

Bust Of St Lawrence Essay
A bust of Saint Lawrence from Borgo San Lorenzo, a region just north of Florence, was recently
attributed to the famous Florence sculptor, Donatello (Povoledo par. 4). It was sculpted during the
Renaissance, circa 1440, and it demonstrates characteristics similar to that found in classical art
(Povoledo par. 4). The bust appears is and almost paradoxically idealistic; it is viewable from multiple
angles and is composed of terra cotta. By the depiction of Saint Lawrence, the patron saint of
librarians for the Catholic Church, it constructs a religious theme ( St. Laurence Martyr par. 17).
Hence, the bust of Saint Lawrence serves as an illustration that the Renaissance was the revival of the
artistic techniques of the Classical.
During the Renaissance, artists were once more interested in making their portrayals realistic, and as a
result, the sculptor thoroughly detailed the bust. Saint Lawrence s hair was carefully considered by
containing aspects of fluidity and asymmetry that reminiscent of hair styling achieved by the Classical
Greeks. His ears are partially covered because it is a challenge to sculpt ears in such a way that is
anatomically correct. Proportion is achieved in the facial features; the eyes, nose, and lips all appear
relative to each other in size. There is proper depth in the face; the eyes are slightly inset, the nose ...

The bust has a slight tilt in the shoulders, reminiscent of the contrapposto found within the classical
art, which allows for a less two dimensional image, suited for more angles. Rounded sides and depth
in the shoulders and arms also create a three dimensional appearance. Furthermore, the back has
significant detail; the hair is styled and flayed cords dangle. This back has slightly degraded with age
so even more detail could have existed but been lost. Overall, the design meets the visual goals of
Renaissance and classical sculptors

Unit Four Mattel Case Study Analysis In 1944, the Mattel brand was founded by Ruth and Elliot
Handler and Harold Matt Matson. They launched Mattel out of a garage workshop in Southern
California. The first Mattel products were actually picture frames, but Elliot soon started using the
scrap from the picture frames to create dollhouse furniture. Harold Matson eventually sold out to his
partner, Ruth and Elliot Handler. The Handler s, encouraged by the success of the doll furniture and
turned the emphasis of the company to toys. By 1955, Mattel was advertising ... Show more content

Mattel investigated the toy crisis thoroughly. The outcome to the problem had Mattel dismiss several
of their subcontractors in the global economy. The next step was to ensure that all toys manufactured
by those subcontractors, were removed from the shelves.
Prior to facing any these problems, Mattel implemented their Global Manufacturing Principles
(GMP). This applied to all businesses that produced or distributed their products. The GMP s provided
structure for both subcontractors and contractors to abide by. This also helped to maintain safety for
employees as well as the consumers.
Mattel should revise their GMP s to be more up to update and implement them in their global
economy, since much of their business is oversees. There should be regular inspections to make sure
that their products are lead free. Equipment and products should be tested and examined to ensure that
there are limited issues that could arise, which could lead to harmful safety issues for the consumer.
Even though running a business may be stressful, it is important that companies make sure that the
safety of their consumers is part of their mission, even when expanded globally. A business must make
sure that their standards and principle are ones that their global contractors and subcontractors adhere
to when manufacturing products for the company.

The English Language Learning Assessment
Student Background Elijah is a 2nd grade student who has been classified as an English Language
Learner by the Comprehensive English Language Learning Assessment (CELLA) at the school.
However, he is not fluent in his native language, which is Spanish. According to Elijah, he does not
speak Spanish at home or study it even though his parents speak the language. He could comprehend
in Spanish but can only speak a little of the language. Most of the times, he responds to his mother in
English. Elijah has one older sister who is married and lives in Georgia, where his family used to live
before they moved to Florida, and a younger brother in Kindergarten. Elijah prefers addition problems
over subtraction problems and can read almost as fluently as his native English speaking peers. He can
comprehend, follow direction, and complete his assignments as well, but at a much slower rate than
his peers. For example, in a phonic instruction, Elijah was very slow at proving the words given on the
board. He continuously looked over at his peers whiteboard to see where they segmented the words
into two syllables and which letters were identified as a vowel or which letters were marked as
digraphs. On Tuesdays, Elijah s class goes to the computer lab for i Ready math. Students had
headphones that they used to listen to the directions, but Elijah s headphones failed to work on one of
those days. The teacher did not have any extra ones available either. As a result, Elijah had to read

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Observation Methods
The observation method is the most commonly used method especially in studies relating to
behavioral sciences. Under the observation method, the information is sought by way of investigator s
own direct observation without asking from the respondent. The main advantage of this method is that
subjective bias is eliminated, if observation is done accurately. Secondly, the information obtained
under this method relates to what is currently happening; it is not complicated by either the past
behavior or future intentions or attitudes. Thirdly, this method is independent of respondents
willingness to respond and as such is relatively less demanding of active cooperation on the part of
respondents as happens to be the case in the interview or the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The results are then to be interpreted for drawing the inference from the experiment. Another
important thing in the observation is that this is a critical role player in any experiment or research.
The surveys in the research need to be observed minutely and they are to be interpreted by statistical
or theoretical means.
Observation thus is a vital role player in any research as these parts make or procure the data available
from different surveys like questionnaires or interviews to make the data converted to information.
This information is the player for justifying a hypothesis or making the research informative and result
oriented. Not only that, the observation also is concerned about the historical part of the research or
research field or topic. The topic or field on which the research is based is to be justified by the
previous researcher s view and view point and that is best done by the observation part. Thus
observation starts from the collection of data and interpreting them on the basis of the historical
research on the topic and also on the analysis of the participants and the participant s research
elements on the topic at earlier

  • 2. Why Huckleberry Finn Should Not Be Banned I would like to bring up the situation on banning books. In our 8th grade Language Arts class we have been assigned a project to read a banned or challenged book and determine whether or not the we think that our book should be approved or banned. I chose the book The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn and discovered almost immediately why this book was banned. Over the years since has been published, many have been tried to ban this book but their attempts have never succeeded . Many of this book s readers think that this book is racist and contains inappropriate language. In fact most of the time this book has been out it has either been banned or challenged since it was first published in 1885. Editors, librarians, parents, and others ... • 3. Feminism In The Novel Herland There are many different ways one may view a utopian society. While looking back in a historical context of feminism, we may see feminism through a political aspect in a utopian society. The connection between feminism and utopianism could be drastic if viewing in a historical context because of the want of a perfect world which would include the equality of women. When reviewing the novel Herland written by Charlotte Perkins Gilman, the author demonstrates her strong views on feminism throughout the novel in many different ways. Gilman addresses gender roles throughout her novel to express her own views of feminism in the late first wave of the feminist movement. To understand the novel Herland in a historical context one must understand the challenges women have faced in the mid 1800 s including the aspects of motherhood, marriage and not having the opportunity to work. Motherhood has changed throughout the world especially in today s time. In the 20th century women tend to juggle many different aspects besides motherhood such as a job, school and their own responsibilities. In the novel Herland the men in the novel express motherhood differently than the basic norms. The women in the novel are not only expressed as doing the normal duties of a mother such as cooking, cleaning and taking care of the children. In fact the women in the novel are shown doing jobs a man would do. In the novel Gilman created her own utopian society where females were superior and the roles ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Conformity Experiment Conformity is a situation of changing one s behavior in order to match the actions of the society around the person. The social influence cause people to agree or even behave like the majority of the people in the specific group so that the group can perceive them as normal. Solomon Asch (1956) was interested to know the act of people in conformity pressure. Because of that, he created an experiment to investigate the process by asking college students in a group of eight to match the lengths of different lines. The experiment shows that 95% of the students correctly match 12 lines without pressure of group. Ash repeats the experiment by changing the situation. The students now need to hear answers of five other people who are actually confederates ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In my opinion, the salesperson didn t have enough experience to persuade people effectively. Outcome that he should use in order to make more customers is by using the liking or friendship influence. (Kenrick, Neuberg, Cialdini, 2010). The idea of this method is customers more prefer to buy things from people they know and like. • 5. How People Give Up Rights When Using an Airline Many people modern day use airlines as a form of transportation. To be able to use this service passengers must have their bags and personal belongings checked by the airline. Airlines do this for the safety of their passengers and to ensure that no catastrophe happens during flight. But when this is done are passengers giving up their rights? Is it right for someone to go through your personal belongings? Or is this procedure only for security reasons? What rights do airplane passengers give up by allowing themselves to be checked before boarding? When Someone travels with an airline they must have their baggage checked before boarding the plane. The owner of the firearm must be at the screening or the item and provide the combination or key to open the secure container containing the firearm. 4.ant and all ammunition must be placed in fiber or packaging specifically designed to hold ammunition. And 5. The ammunition must be in the same container as the unloaded firearm. As long as when traveling with a firearm you follow all of these procedures you can legally bring a gun with you while traveling with an airline. Once again these rules might restrict your rights as an American citizen but they do NOT take away your rights as an American citizen. And there is also rules with sharp objects such as knives. The only rule that there is on these items is,1. It can not be in carry on luggage and it must be securely wrapped to prevent injury. So once again it is one hundred percent legal to bring a weapon with you while flying with an airline service. Also if someone fells that having their baggage checked is taking away their rights that is also not true. The FAA (a government run organization) enforces these rules and regulations for the airline passengers safety and for no other reason except for the passenger s safety. Also by having these rules enforced by the government they can not possibly eliminate your rights as an American citizen (although they might restrict them temporarily). And concerning the rule for having baggage checked, it is up to the airlines to charge ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. My Experience As An Educator Reflecting over this semester I have come to the realization the more time I have had teaching has made me as an educator, more prepared for each and everyday. When I think back to last year and compare how prepared and confident I felt, there is no comparison where I stand today. Within this semester, I have grown immensely as an educator from taking on new roles from having a K state education student observe with me for 40 hours, to presenting at the state KSDE conference, and to many more adventures in which I have yet to experience. Even though it has only been a semester, I feel this year is flying by and I am constantly reflecting on last year s experiences and changing this years experience for the better. When comparing my experiences from last year as a new educator I have realized this year I am more prepared and ready to get started each and every day. For example, all of my lessons were well thought out and prepared for each and every class period. When creating and deciding what lessons I wanted to teach to my students I planed out my first semester of classes during the summer, which has made me prepared for this this school year. I also feel my classroom management skills have improved as well, since this year I have more experience under my belt and I am constantly reflecting if I am managing my classes with the best skills possible. I also am constantly collaborating with other teachers for feedback on areas of improvement, which has really pushed me to be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Pricing Strategies And Marketing Strategies Pricing strategies can vary from offering relatively stable prices across a wide range of products, which is known as Everyday Low Pricing (EDLP) or Promotional Pricing (PROMO) which involves emphasising deep and frequent discounts on smaller sets of goods (Ellickson and Misra, 2008). The EDLP store adopts a constant everyday low prices across a wide range of product categories, whereas PROMO or Hi Lo stores occasionally price a category at the regular price or at a deep discount (Bell and Lattin, 1998). Ellickson and Misra (2008) argue that the concept of choosing the best pricing strategy is a complex process as it forces firms to balance the preferences of their consumers, as well as taking into account their competitors performances in terms of the store pricing and market share. Supermarket Pricing Strategies (Ellickson and Misra, 2008) Ellickson and Misra (2008) established that supermarkets typically cluster in terms of pricing strategies, and therefore stores using the same strategies are likely to be found within close proximity of each other. Evidence from the study showed that consumer demographics played a significant role in the choice of pricing strategy. The result from the study carried out by using a discrete choice model which explains and predicts choices between two or more discrete alternatives; which in this case the study focused on three choices EDLP, PROMO and Hybrid. The study demonstrated that demographics and firm characteristics are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Essay on Effective Communication Case Study Effective Communication Case Study Analysis Communication can be defined as the act of transmitting information. Effective communication is a two way process. Information that flows back and forth between sender and receiver is considered effective (Clark 2003). For example, an organization communicates to their publics and then begins to look for feedback from their customers to ensure that everyone understands the message. Sometimes the feedback is not verbal and organizations can only measure the effectiveness by analyzing consumers actions (Clark 2003). Some companies have a great understanding of their customers and excel with effective communication. One such company is Johnson Johnson. The purpose of this paper is to present a ... The company then issued a massive recall of 31 million bottles of Tylenol (Bell, n.d.). Johnson Johnson issued the recall even after the company found out that the products were tampered with after the bottles reached the stores (Bell, n.d.). According to Albert Tortorella, Manager of the firm that advised Johnson Johnson, Before 1982, nobody ever recalled anything (Rehak, 2002). This PR tactic showed the public that the company was ethically motivated to protect the people at any cost. The decision is estimated to have cost the company over $100 Million (Rehak, 2002). However, the benefit to the company was consumer trust. Upon the return to the market, the PR department issued coupons for $2.50 to get consumers to buy the new product (Susi, 2002). They also introduced a lower pricing plan to attract buyers to their product (Susi, 2002). To inform the public about the crisis Johnson Johnson was not alone. Local police in the Chicago are drove around through neighborhoods announcing the danger of the pain medicine and informed everyone that was present of the recall (Bell, n.d.). Mrs. Green thinks that it would be best for the children if she and Mr. Green had joint custody of the children. Since Mr. and Mrs. Green intend on having joint custody of the children, it looks as if all aspects of rearing the children, including expenses as well as decision making would be shared among the parents. Although it is shared , that does not signify that it will be equally shared. The court will determine, based on the formula contained in the Kentucky Child Support Guidelines, what each parent pays. Furthermore, since Mrs. Green is without income as a homemaker, it seems as though some sort of child support payment should be paid in regards to the children while they are residing in her home. Also, if Mr. Green takes a job, earning less income due to health problems, this may affect the amount of child support he would be obligated to pay, but it shouldn t keep him from being required to pay some sort of child support. This job change can cause the court to deviate from the guidelines. However, the court may look at Mrs. Green s unemployment as being voluntary. Thus, the court may not use that issue in determining the child support Mr. Green should be obligated to pay. The court will probably not order Mrs. Green to obtain employment, but in looking at the facts, there is no valid reason as to her unemployment, and it may be in the ... • 13. Analysis Of Orson Welles And Herman Mankiewicz Citizen Kane figures in one of the most influential, and greatest filmography works of all time. However, the making of its fame was rather rough. Orson Welles and Herman Mankiewicz were the screenwriters for this movie, Welles was the leading director; therefore, he had the final saying in the contributions to the movie. Both writers worked separately when developing the story, only having the main character defined: Charles Foster Kane it is pertinent to say that I think Foster is supposed to be ironic considering his morose childhood . Welles had a rough childhood, which is portrayed in the film, since he came from a broken home and lost his hardworking mother when he was nine. The origins of Kane s personality is sort of like a mixture between allusions to Welles miserable childhood due to his parents divorce, and later the death of his mother in his first ten years of life; and also an exposé of William Hearst s life. Hearst is arguably one of the most influential American journalists and main contributor of the creation of yellow journalism basically, headlines with information that had almost no support for its claimings . Kane s character is mainly built out of these two pivotal events, hence his childhood, passion for yellow journalism, and obsession with power over papers. The category for this film is called film à clef, and just like roman à clef for novels, this means that the work is describing real life situations, or characters are minimally changed ... Youtube is a great example of this because most the comedy videos uploaded in today s world will have some kind of rude or racist humor that jabs at someone or some other race. One example would be with Key Peele videos and how racist they are in their videos but what makes them different is that they are trying to teach a lesson with their videos. Such as in their video named Racist Zombies when there is a zombie apocalypse and all the white people in the world are turned into zombies but there are no black zombies because they aren t attacked. The point behind that video is that they are trying to teach about racism and how bad it is looked upon but they use comedy to somewhat mask the pain from the racism but still get a point ... This supposed generation of Do Gooders, with their heightened sense of morality, repressed sexuality and increased piety, were actually far from perfect. They had an exceptional list of standards by which they claimed to dutifully abide, but more often than not fell short of. The Victorians were, in the words of literary critic Walter Houghton, brilliant actors able to [conceal] or [suppress] their true convictions and their natural tastes (146). The matter of Victorian hypocrisy, as it has come to be known, has been scrutinized by a plethora of critics and authors alike. However, the moral façade that has come to be associated with the Victorian era was perhaps first criticized in Robert Louis Stevenson s Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Apart from being an exceptional Gothic work, Stevenson s novella is an excellent critique of the hypocrisy that dominated the Victorian era. In his novella, Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, Robert Louis Stevenson uses the characters of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde to expose the double standards and moral pretensions that governed Victorian society. Dr. Jekyll, the protagonist in Stevenson s Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, is the ultimate embodiment of the standards of morality by which the upper class Victorians claimed to abide. • 21. Building Concrete Structures Of Building Solid Stone... Materials like tile covered concrete quickly supplanted marble as the primary building material and more daring buildings soon followed, with great pillars supporting broad arches and domes rather than dense lines of columns suspending flat architraves. Concrete also inspired the colonnade screen, a row of ornamental columns in front of a load bearing wall. For smaller buildings, concrete s strength freed the floor plan from rectangular cells to a more free flowing environment. Most of these developments are described by Vitruvius writing in the first century AD in his work De Architectura. Ancient Roman concrete was a mixture of lime mortar, sand with stone rubble, pozzolana, water, and stones, and stronger than previously used concrete. The ancient builders placed these ingredients in wooden frames where it hardened and bonded to a facing of stones or (more frequently) bricks. Concrete construction proved to be more flexible and less costly than building solid stone buildings. The materials were readily available and not difficult to transport. The wooden frames could be used more than once, allowing builders to work quickly and efficiently. On return from campaigns in Greece, the general Sulla returned with what is probably the most well known element of the early imperial period: the mosaic, a decoration of colorful chips of stone inset into cement. First, the task redesign hindrance significantly distorted employee perceptions in the expectation and desired directions. Furthermore, the altered perceptions remained at their new level for the duration of the study. Second, attitudes including satisfaction and commitment also increased quickly but then reduced back to their initial levels. Finally, performance did not increase initially, but did increase a lot by the end of the study period. Obligation The names of the perspectives speak mostly for themselves. Obligation is making sure that the decision that is made is fair to all and that everyone is treated as equals (Weiss, 2006). The thought is that we should have a duty to all humanity. This particular example of diction creates a group of individuals that are defined by their rebellious action and are at odds with society. Whilst there is no written document forming the Constitution, there are understood to be governing principles. These include the need for the separation of powers and Parliamentary sovereignty. Bust Of St Lawrence Essay A bust of Saint Lawrence from Borgo San Lorenzo, a region just north of Florence, was recently attributed to the famous Florence sculptor, Donatello (Povoledo par. 4). It was sculpted during the Renaissance, circa 1440, and it demonstrates characteristics similar to that found in classical art (Povoledo par. 4). The bust appears is and almost paradoxically idealistic; it is viewable from multiple angles and is composed of terra cotta. By the depiction of Saint Lawrence, the patron saint of librarians for the Catholic Church, it constructs a religious theme ( St. Laurence Martyr par. 17). Hence, the bust of Saint Lawrence serves as an illustration that the Renaissance was the revival of the artistic techniques of the Classical. During the Renaissance, artists were once more interested in making their portrayals realistic, and as a result, the sculptor thoroughly detailed the bust. Saint Lawrence s hair was carefully considered by containing aspects of fluidity and asymmetry that reminiscent of hair styling achieved by the Classical Greeks.
