3. Fear Of Strangers In Public Spaces
Imagine walking down a crowded city block and knowing every single person that passes by. It s hard
to imagine, because the chances of knowing everyone are improbable. Each day city dwellers pass by
strangers they have never met before and have the good chance of never seeing again. Each day these
dwellers pass by each other without any forms of social acknowledgement interactions. Though
everyone s actions may appear the same, behavioral patterns and mindsets when interacting and being
near strangers in public spaces vary depending on gender. Fear is the main contributor in behavior and

The thin body is such a cultural standard and is an unchallenged norm and is rarely questioned as a
state of being. Universal media images reinforce and perpetuate the normalcy of thinness. When
watching a movie, a television show, or even flipping through a magazine, those with a slimmer body
dominate. Even if there is an individual with a slightly larger figure, typically the plot line is centered
around that, and it isn t considered normal. Thin individuals are made to feel welcome and normal in
the usual walks of public life. Meanwhile, those without privilege must negotiate daily interactions,
sometimes feeling shame, guilt, and anger because of their bodies (Kawn 147). Those without the
privilege experience being judged and, at times, verbally abused. These experiences leave them
emotionally scarred and weary of any social interactions with strangers in public spaces. If they

4. Comparison Of Silent Hill And Alan Wake
(Untitled game) is a detective story that focuses on the emotional aspects of victims in order to solve
cases. The philosophy is that strong emotions get trapped with the belongings of people. The detective
(the main character) will have the ability to relive the traumatic experiences of victims to get clues as
to who is behind a string of mysterious deaths and disappearances. There are some aspects similar to
how Heavy Rain works in terms of detective work and interactions. Other similarities would be Silent
Hill and Alan Wake in terms of psychological horror, specifically the twisting of reality from Silent
Hill and the tension and mental aspects of Alan Wake... Here, game play has two parts: Normal,
investigative work during the daytime and a nightmare mode when the detective sleeps. At first, the
daytime mode is intended to seem basic but this is to give the player a base line in terms of normality.
Players can investigate crime scenes and discover evidence and create a link with the memories within
each item through effective analysis. At night, he re lives these memories. They are essentially
scenarios leading up to the final days of a victim who s being hunted. During nightmare sequences, the
player faces survival scenarios. The objective is to survive as long ... Show more content on

5. Rhetorical Devices In The Scarlet Letter Essay
Born in Salem, Massachusetts in 1804, Nathaniel Hawthorne wrote many novels and short stories.
Hawthorne s best novel, The Scarlet Letter, overtook the role of the first truly, American novel. His
use of rhetorical devices, especially symbolism, established him as one of the most studied authors of
all time. In order to convey meaning or to persuade, Hawthorne utilized numerous rhetorical devices.
Rhetorical devices in The Scarlet Letter evoked emotions of the audience. In Hawthorne s work, the
devices helped the audience elaborate on the novel. Hawthorne used rhetorical devices to show his
character s turmoil. He did this through the character of Hester Prynne, a social outcast bound to
isolation by her sins. In novel, The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne, Hawthorne depicts Hester
s inner turmoil through the portrayal of the sinful nature of human beings utilizing rhetorical devices.
To begin with, Hester s sin drove the story, but after the community established her as a sinner, she
overcame her sins but she still struggled through other characters. Instead of depicting Hester s inner
turmoil directly to Hester, Hawthorne portrays her tumult through other characters in her life such as
Dimmesdale, Chillingworth, and the community. Dimmesdale proclaimed to Hester, If thou feelest it
to be for thy soul s peace, and that thy earthly punishment will thereby be made more effectual to
salvation, I charge thee to speak out the name of thy fellow sinner and

8. Mandatory Ventilatory Case Study
Primary and long term treatment for CCHs is placement of a permanent tracheostomy. This most
common invasive procedure involves the child being placed on positive pressure ventilation during the
night. Depending on the severity of alveolar hypoventilation, some patients may require around the
clock ventilation. The suggested ventilator mode for these patients iare spontaneous intermittent
mandatory ventilation (SIMV). SIMV delivers a set number of fully assisted breaths whether the
breaths are patient triggered, flow limited trigger, or time triggered. Additional spontaneous breaths by
the patient are unassisted with no ventilator help. Ventilators should be used in the spontaneous
intermittent mandatory ventilation (SIMV) mode. Another recommendation is the use of an uncuffed
tracheostomy to minimize granuloma formation. Ventilator settings can compensate for air leaks
around the tracheotomy tube by increasing volume and peak airway pressure as necessary. Mild

Negative pressure ventilation relies on the ability to move the chest wall. Negative pressure ventilation
(NPV) has also been used in treatment in CCHS patients, however it has been linked to upper airway
obstruction during sleeping. Nasal mask ventilation has also been proven in children who are older
than 7 years of age with a dependency on nocturnal ventilation. This is the preferred mode of
ventilatory support by parents and patients.[32]
Daytime diaphragm pacing in children with CCHS provides greater mobility than mechanical
ventilation.[33] Thus, candidates for diaphragm pacing are potentially ambulatory patients who
require ventilatory support 24 h/d via tracheotomy and who do not exhibit significant ventilator
related lung damage. Diaphragm pacer settings must provide adequate alveolar ventilation and
oxygenation during rest and daily activities. Long term outcome appears good, especially quality of

9. Research Paper On Jane Flanders
The world has several great poets and many mind blowing works, each with its own way of portraying
its own message and some the same ones. Jane Flanders wrote the poem named Cloud Painter she
shows the world from an artistic way, using a painter and his canvas to help the reader picture the true
meaning behind the words and images created. Robert Frost takes on the same idea but uses a less
complex example so that it makes his work easy to understand while not revealing the real meaning of
the poem. Frost and Flanders are just two of the many poets that use nature as a way of explaining the
very lessons in life. Each poet has a different way of presenting similar images but from a different
perspective. Flanders sees the world as simple backdrop as seen when she simply states, At first, as
you know, the sky is incidental a drape, a backdrop for the trees and steeples. Here an oak clutches a
rock (already he works outdoors), a wall buckles but does not break, water pearls through a lock, a
haywain trembles. Showing that the world is just another curtain painting that is there for looks. The
message behind this line is that life rests upon a single canvas and although it has been damaged it still
stands as if to hang on to its life. The first line sets the poem for the next line to come which explains
the main point of the poem The pleasures of landscape are endless. What is seen should be enough.
Horizons are typically high and far away. This shows that the things in life are often taken for granted
and used for the wrong reasons. Flanders uses this line to represent the things in the world that are
there and difficult to get without giving up something in return. The special treasure that is there from
the start is often not appreciated but the ones that have been worked for do not tend to lose their value
over time. Robert Frost, on the other hand, used a more fictional approach in Nothing Gold Can Stay .
Nature s first green is gold, Her hardest hue to hold. This couplet has one key theme, hat not only lies
in the word choice but in the poem, itself. The start of spring is when all the new flowers bloom and
the leaves on trees become greener. The start of something new and beautiful is the

Tanzania Globalization In this paper i will write about the effect that globalization has had on the
country of Tanzania. When globalization made its way to Tanzania it became worse and worse for the
citizens there. Tanzania is place with an abundance of land and the western people that came to the
country took advantage of that.
History Before the people of Tanzania were introduced to globalization, they have been living in this
country for thousands of years. The country is on the eastern side of the continent. Archeologist have
found evidence of early inhabitants by studying the paintings on the rocks made by the early ancestors
of the country. The paintings would portray the people hunting and dancing. They would find these
paintings all around, inside caves that they believe were used to make tools for hunting and under
huge rocks.(Taylor Francis group, 2010)But Soon after the people of Tanganyika were used as slaves
and as cheap labor to make products for industrial Europe.
Before gaining their independence they were under the control of Portugal but that changed for a
while, they were apart of German territory until WW1 and were given to British rule where they
eventually gained their independence in 1961. The two countries of Tanganyika and Zanzibar became

House bubble situation on the real estate market is presented by condition when there are low supply
and high demand at the same time, which causes shortage on the market. (Yoshino, Nakamura and
Sakai, 2013). Moreover, house price bubble is always associated with speculators who are buying
houses with the goal to resell it in the short term. These conditions appeared on London real estate
market and caused «Bubble Trouble». This essay will discuss main causes of the bubble, matters of its
bursting and danger, connected with bursting.
Very high indexes of demand in London are mostly caused by several components, such as:
desirability of London, job opportunities and real estate market seen as investment.
London is considered to be one of the most desirable cities to work and live in (Kollewe, 2014). One
of the reasons of this indicator is connected with «best jobs and economic opportunities .

public healthcare and cultural diversity . Vast majority of foreigners (65 percent) consider buying
property in London as investment (Statista, 2013), without goal to let for rent or live there (BNP

14. Where Worlds Collide Summary
We should feel empowered by where we came from and who we are, not hide it, the author Lorin
Morgan Richards once said. When given the opportunity to express oneself, one should always take
that opportunity and make the most out of it. The sharing of culture is what creates such a diverse and
interesting world, and culture is what defines every human being. Culture, one of the most important
factors in one s life, continually influences a person s perspective because it forms the roots of one s
beliefs, morals, and opinions. This is especially evident throughout the stories Where Worlds Collide,
HAPA, An Indian Father s Plea, and By Any Other Name.
One s cultural background plays an essential role in one s life, especially when one is faced with new
experiences. In Where Worlds Collide, the immigrants are very curious and dumbfounded by what
they see outside of the airport: There are no military planes on the tarmac, the newcomers notice, no
khaki soldiers in fatigues, no instructions not to take photographs, as at home (Iyer 63). ... Show more

her: ...I d choose Hapa. It means half Asian and half another race... It s meant to be slightly derogatory,

acronym to describe herself, and characterizes it as part of who she is. She uses her ethnic background
to express how others see her and how she sees herself. In addition, in An Indian Father s Plea, the
young Indian boy s father believes that western society has made assumptions about his son s culture:
He is a full basket coming into a different environment and society with something special to share.

The SCN also reduces the amount of melatonin produced when light is detected. Having an increased
amount of melatonin causes sleepiness. The scientific understanding of sleep has changed due to the
invention of the electroencephalograph, which then produces an electroencephalogram. The
understanding of rapid eye movements also contributed the scientific understanding of sleep. With

The brain grows at a faster rate than any other part of the body. By age 5, child s brain weighs 90% of
average adult brain weight, whereas total body weight is merely 30%.
One reason is due to increase in the number of interconnections among cells. These interconnects
allow for more complex communication between neurons, permit rapid growth of cognitive skills.
Amount of myelin (protective insulation that surrounds parts of the neurons) increases, which speeds

22. Comparison Of The Book And Alice In Wonderland
Comparison of Alice in Wonderland Book and Movie Alice s Adventures in Wonderland written by
Lewis Caroll was originally published on November 26, 1865. On the other hand, the movie version,
directed by Clyde Geronimo, Wilfred Jackson, and Hamilton Luske and produced by Walt Disney, was
published in 1951. Carroll s book has twelve chapters and begins by describing a girl who named
Alice that falls down a hole and finds herself in wonderland. In comparison, the movie begins with a
scene not included in the book in which Alice sings about her world, foreshadowing wonderland. In
the beginning, the versions are similar. Alice follows the rabbit because she is bored with her sister
who only wants to read books with pictures. When she follows the rabbit, Alice finds herself in a
different world. The difference is that in the book when Alice comes to the place, she finds the rabbit
and follows him until she sees many doors. In the movie, however, the door talks to her instead. In the
movie Mrs. Doorknob never appears, but the door has magic and gives her a potion bottle and box on
the table. Conversely, in the book the bottle and box are already there. Because she didn t see the two
things, they appear after she talks to the door and he works his magic, and she drinks the potion to
become smaller so she can enter the door. In the second chapter, there are several differences. In the
book Alice feels so desperate that she was ready to ask help from

23. The Gangster Film
The Gangster film is a genre that tells a story that can be universally appreciated. Formed in America
there is a grand appeal to their methods and composition. Gangster film has a certain formula, where
any country can use its intrinsic convections, but it s also adaptable enough to conform with any
particular country s context without losing its inherent meaning. In French cinema following the
Second World War, for example, there was a visible shift that had French films shadow Hollywood s
approach. Director Jean Pierre Melville was one of the pioneers of the French crime movie. In 1956
his appreciation of the American gangster and film noir led way to Bob le Flambeur . A film very
American in its characteristics, but still withholds a French aura about it.
The American features in Bob le Flambeur are hard to miss. In its settings, with its noir like, sulky
lighting and urban ambiance, the film provides meaning with the characters surroundings. Most urban
city settings in gangster films support a type of community that breeds gangsters. ... Show more

on the crime boss, but in the film is one that is retired and respected by most. He has Paolo as his

At each site, the client s often come up with a shared goal that everyone would like to work on.
Recently, at one of the groups, I talked about establishing healthy boundaries with the clients. As a
group, all of the clients decided to incorporate weekly guidelines for setting appropriate limits with
one another during their time together. I thought this was an excellent example of the clients coming
together to support one another while attending weekly sessions. Another recent example of shared
goals for the group was setting up a Halloween party at the drop at some of the drop in sites. Each
location required some individuals of the group to participate in tasks for the Halloween Parties. Each
person of the group must complete a task such as brining, food, drinks, party favors, or board games.
The ultimate goal for the teenagers was to plan and implement a party for the whole group to enjoy!

2020 marks for the 50th anniversary of the first Earth Day, in that year the main focus will be to end
plastic pollution (Earth Day). The first Earth Day was on April 22, the 1970s all throughout the U.S.
Know it s a global event that people from all over the world celebrated. Before the movement started
in the 1970 s, a great oil spill happened that Santa Barbara had in California, 1969. Thus, the oil spill
encouraged Senator Gaylord Nelson of having a day to focus on helping the environment and teach
the public of natural disasters (History of earth day, 2017). Millions of people went to the street to
protest for the negative impacts of more than a hundred years of industrial development. The natural
environment has been on a road of destruction ever since the industrial revolution. In addition, humans
have been overwhelmed with gaining wealth that they have ignored the environmental needs for many
years. It can be said that this movement has been a great success in protecting the environment. There
are three main reasons why this movement is successful: The first, is the strong focus of the
movement, which promotes public awareness of pollution problems, the second, is all the positive
influence the main media has have to the movement and lastly, is the overall knowledge that people
receive after participating in an earth day activity. First, Gaylord Nelson wanted there to be a

film focuses on the development of Eugenia Skeeter Phelan, a young, aspiring Anglo American author

The Mammy is a stereotypical black motherly figure that has cast African American actors as either
slaves or domestic help in the film industry since its inception. For example in the classic 1939 film
Gone with the Wind adapted from Margaret Mitchell s 1936 novel set during the American Civil war
in 1861, the character named Mammy is played by African American actress Hattie McDaniel. In this
role Mammy is portrayed as an overweight, elderly, black servant. She is beyond the years of
childbearing but who is devoted to the white O Hara family she is assigned to nurture. In the book she
is described as, a huge old woman with the small, shrewd eyes of an elephant. She was shining black,
pure African, devoted to her last drop of blood to the O Haras... (Mitchell, 1936) . Since this depiction
a Mammy has become an archetypal figure that began with slavery but continued to be depicted by
white Americans as classic domesticated help. Like McDaniel s character these women are most often
characterised as portly with large breasts (Gray, 2004) devoid of any sexual identity. In The Help the
appearance of the African American maids, particularly the main character, Aibileen, is reminiscent of
the Mammy figure. Aibileen is not portrayed as overweight as Hattie McDaniel s character, but she is
noticeably larger than all of the white characters in the film. Aibileen also has very dark skin which
separates her from her white counterparts. In the novel Aibileen compares

The Sirens of Titan by Kurt Vonnegut , Why It is Great How It Affected My Ideas?
The Sirens of Titan was the third Kurt Vonnegut novel I read.
Books, to me, are meant to serve the purpose of creating an enlightened and timeless version of
ourselves. In this sense, The Sirens of Titan was, undoubtedly, the most astounding and mesmerizing
novel I have ever laid my eyes on. It poses a great significance for both my personality and thoughts
as it changed them drastically; therefore, I find The Sirens of Titan to be the most influential piece of
literature and the Magnum Opus amongst all of Kurt Vonnegut s his works. Kurt Vonnegut structures
an elaborate plot in which he masterfully touches upon the great themes of free will, luck, religion,
and the actual meaning of life, all the while using a sarcastic yet humanistic tone with an extensive
symbolism in The Sirens of Titan. Moreover, the manipulation of time structure, change of narrations,
and premature/delayed revelations he exposes his readers to, as chapters advance, constitutes the novel
s genuine and idiosyncratical postmodern character. He does all these maintaining his signature use of
simplex syntax, metafiction, and hyperreality, developed and supported by the interconnected literary
universe he created through his writing career. He is influenced, in my ... Show more content on

that the cousins can be with each other. Family comes from New Jersey, California, and sometimes

because I would mostly be left out of adventures the big kids would do. My older cousins were

My cousins decided to go down to the river, I really wanted to go, but they said no, because something

handle issues regarding how to better manage this process; human resource specialist were called to
handle the logistical issues and the assistants handle issues of suppliers and customer while members
of the management provide direction and inputs in case of disagreements.
The main purpose of the meeting was to discuss the reason behind the delay in completing
background investigations, which had been undergoing problems in recent times. The meeting was

31. Conflict in Daniel Ridgway Knight´s Paintings
Daniel Ridgway Knight was an odd American artist who loved to paint relaxed French peasants in
luscious landscapes. Ironically, he lived during a stressful time when the Industrial Revolution
displaced numerous farmers and polluted the environment. He seemed to ignore the harsh truth and
shut himself in his imaginary serene world. For instance, In the Premier Chagrin, translated as The
First Grief, Knight paints two healthy girls conversing on a stone wall in front of gorgeous fields. At
first, it appears as merely a pretty painting that is nicely contrasted to show depth and realism. Yet,
with a closer look, this contrast in the colors and lines of the landscape and the figures creates tension
to suggest the painter s conflict between longing for serene freedom and feeling trapped within the
stiff society. Though the viewers focus first on the centered figures, it is easier to first analyze the
surrounding settings to understand them. The stone wall foreground and the open fields of the
background each embodies one of the girl s thoughts. The back landscape is filled with warm, airy
colors of blue and orange, as if it were under a bright sun. On the other hand, the foreground s stone
walls and concrete floor has dark, cold, shadowy, earthy colors that seem to appear as if under a
stormy cloud. The sunny land suggests free, pure, spacious land previous to the industrialization. Yet,
the darkened foreground due to the overcasting shadows resemble the currently dirty,

There are many different experiments which can give varying intelligence about the makeup of matter,
in different ways and with different conclusions. In this instance I will be looking at the discovery of
the electron, how our understanding of it has changed over the years, and measure how it has
contributed to where we are today.
Joseph John Thomson (J. J. Thomson, 1856 1940) is widely recognized as the discoverer of the
electron. Thomson was a Professor of Experimental Physics at Cambridge University, and Director of
its Cavendish Laboratory, from 1884 until 1919. It is here where his most well known, varied and
comprehensive work, in the field of conduction of electricity within gases, was undertaken. In 1897

Despite this, it did not signify that the discharge had stopped, as there would still be current flowing
between the electrodes, and these are what Thompson referred to as cathode rays.
J. J. Thomson presumed that the cathode rays which emanated from the negative electrode were a
collection of particles possessing negative charges. If a negative electric potential were applied to the
upper plate, and the lower plate was positive, then the cathode ray beam would curve downwards and
the spot visible on the screen would also move downward. Thomson recorded this, and also noted that
the spot neither spread significantly, nor faded. This demonstrated that Thompson s conclusions were
correct, and cathode rays comprise a beam of like particles with a negative charge.
It has transpired that the electron is not quite what Thomson concluded, as it is incorrect to believe
that electrons are either particles or waves, but cannot be both. Under some circumstances electrons
behave like particles, while under other conditions they act as waves. Subsequently, much has been
learnt about the characteristics of electrons from the work of other scientists. However, Thomson s
first painstaking experiments and adventurous hypotheses were substantiated by crucial experimental
and theoretical work. From this was derived the computers and T.V. we now generally encounter in
society: they are direct descendants from the cathode ray tube on which Thompson

way, which was racist and discriminated. When I read the materials from class, I felt I had experienced

rights and more voice in the government, which was hard but a goal for every Chinese nonimmigrants

Effect of Liquidity and Capital Structure on Financial Performance: Evidence from banking Sector.
Abstract
This research is titled as the impact of liquidity and capital structure on the financial performance of
Cement sector firm. Capital structure and liquidity both play a vital role in growth and profitability of
the firm. The data of fifteen cement sector firms were randomly analyzed, for the period of 2008 to
2014. The statistical approaches i.e. correlation, fixed effect, random effect and hausman tests were
applied. The results indicated that all capital structure variables, i.e. Debt to equity, debt ratio, funded
capital ratio and Funded debt ratio has negative relationship with firm financial performance of these
selected cement sector firms. The results also indicated that liquidity proxies, i.e. quick ratio and
current ratio have significant positive impact on the financial performance of these cement sector
firms. On the bases of the findings of this study it is suggested that these firm s manager should take
care of its capital structure proxies as it negatively impacting its financial performance. On the bases
of findings, it is also advised that these managers should further improve the mechanism of liquidity.

Though it can be used for individuals with mental illness, it is also a solid fit for individuals such as
Joel that could benefit from the teaching of these skills. This is because Social Skills Training (SST)
involves the systematic teaching of interpersonal skills through the practice and demonstration of
those skills (Mueser Bellack, 2007).
Joel and his fellow group members will be taught social skills during group counseling sessions. A
large part of this will be taught through role playing common social scenarios with group members.
Role playing is effective because it allows clients such as Joel to watch these skills be demonstrated
by others in addition to practicing them himself (Mueser Bellack, 2007). Once Joel and his group
members practice these improved social behaviors they will be provided with positive feedback on
what they did well and corrective feedback on how they could have done better.
In addition to role playing, Joel will be provided with assignments to practice what he learned during
naturally occurring situations. For example, when Joel is frustrated with other students in the class for
not being able to keep up or answer questions correctly, he can practice keeping his thoughts to
himself and/or engages in more supportive behavior. This may include the avoidance of showing his
