General Motors recently went through a major overhaul in-sourcing all of our TA functions. Through this, we had to build a global sourcing platform and define the roles and responsibilities associated with being a world-class sourcer. Current market conditions and the evolution of TA had a large part to play in our strategy. William will discuss this journey and how GM defines success.

What are all the things you think about and take care of when you invite people for a little party? Lots of decisions and many invisible actions are happening beforehand. In the English language there is a nice word that captures this all: hosting. But you cannot only host parties, also conversations and collective learning processes benefit from good hosting. And it is not the same as ‘facilitating the meeting’. Can you image you would facilitate a dinner with friends or family? Hosting is different, it goes deeper and is beyond facilitation. The term Art of Hosting and Harvesting Conversations That Matter contains many elements: the convening, inviting, holding and guiding the conversations. This hosting practice and methodology is also known as the art of participatory leadership. In participatory leadership we want, just as in a successful party, that everyone can join in, feels safe and OK. Art of Hosting is crucial in the future of work, in a world where we no longer separate thinking from doing, in a world where everyone’s voice matters. Whether it is in your community, an Agile transformation or teams doing BAU.

Three years of self-selection reteaming at Redgate SoftwareChris Smith
For the past three years Redgate has run a self-selection reteaming process to shape how teams are assigned to reflect the company’s strategy for the year ahead.
Our approach allows people to strongly influence which team they’re part of, encouraging them to move towards the work they find most engaging.
We’ve found reteaming in this way to be good for our people, our teams and our products.
Be inspired to try a self-selection process that works for you, building on the take-aways below:
* The principles of self-determination and the value of providing staff with autonomy, master & purpose
* What holds us back from self-selection both as leaders and participants
* What happened when Redgate Software ran their self-selection process (Spoiler: Good things)
* How to plan and run a considerate self-selection process - physically and remotely

The purpose of this session is to help participants understand how to build in the appropriate processes and development initiatives to ensure that their organisations’ most talented people make the biggest positive impact in the organisation that they can. Participants will walk away from the session having been introduced to cutting edge ways to accurately identify potential and with the full understanding of what talented people need to be exposed to in order to reach their potential. They will also leave with a clear view of what kills potential in people and a kick-start of how to change the talent landscape in their organisation.

What we've learned about learning - PowershopPowershopNZ
Slides from November's Agile Welly meetup: http://www.meetup.com/AgileWelly/events/216188702/
Over the last two years Powershop has grown from 10 developers and two testers to a technical team of 40. We used to work as 10 separate development silos delivering work to a separate test team. Now we have small, integrated and engaged multi-disciplinary teams of development, test, design and product ownership.
We’ll talk about the changes we’ve made to get here, what we did well and what went wrong. And most importantly what we’ve learned about growth through learning and teaching.

The art and sciance of project executionShaun West
What is missing with traditional project execution?
What projects have in common is that they are multidisciplinary and team members have to learn to work together, they need to be both creative and disciplined, and to work to a common aim.
Approaches are needed that supplement the science of project execution (Process, Plan, Schedule, etc.) with the art of project execution (Leadership, Trust, Ownership, Teamwork, etc.)
This will improve project effectiveness, efficiency and success rate. Helping the team to deliver the right outcomes in the right way.

Considerations for large scale aws migrationExpediuz Tech
IT services providers recommend virtualization not because it is an IT business trend that everyone simply must ride, but because it is, quite, a smart way of managing your IT resources. Every day, more and more organizations migrate to the Amazon Web Services public cloud. However, despite the cloud’s benefits in scalability, agility and efficiency, they discover a new set of challenges that need to be overcome.
Here are a few points that you should consider when in moving to the AWS cloud long term direction….
Leveraging Core Values for Healthier, More Productive TeamsTechWell
Although all teams require a healthy level of interaction, high-performing teams' interactions are all based on trust, respect, and shared goals. Such teams find ways to overcome the fear of conflict, and quickly identify and resolve issues that are getting in the way. Scott Ross shares how, when the Omnyx software R&D department determined their culture was hindering performance, they crafted a core values statement that has served them well for the past three years. Scott describes the ways they proactively and intentionally use their value statement to drive the culture they seek and discusses the results they have achieved. Take back the list of resources that Scott uses daily to help himself and others see how their actions add to and take away from their core values. Return to the office prepared to use this same process with your team and start on the road to a high-performing team whose members love to come to work every day.

Company leadership and hiring managers are only as great as the team they build. So, it’s no surprise that a core responsibility of all group managers is to design and hire top talent for their organization. But, in order to be effective at hiring and building a grade-A team, managers need to know what questions to ask during the initial interview stages. By asking candidates strategic interview questions, hiring managers can quickly identify the best job candidates or potential employees.
Cory Eustice, Talent Director at Hart, reveals ways the most effective leaders interview candidates to identify those great hires.
You’ll learn:
*The interview process most leaders and managers take
*The art and science to developing custom and strategic interview questions based on the role
*What to look for in the interview answers received from candidates
*The top interview questions CEOs ask candidates

Three Reasons Construction Leaders Fail: Learn Practical Ways to Identify and...Eric Anderton
Construction is booming, and 2018 promises to be a great year for contractors.
Great leaders share these components of success:
1. Thinks Strategically
2. Maximizes People
3. No Silos
4. Results Focused
5. Mentors Others
6. Has High Personal Standards
Unfortunately, there are three areas that Construction Leaders fail (whether it be in the office or the field)
Lousy interpersonal and communication skills:
---Always seems to be feuding
---Has a reputation for being authoritarian
---Acts as a polarizing force
---Avoids direct communication
---Delivers bad news through e-mail
---Exhibits a hostile attitude towards co-workers
---Becomes the target of subtle or blatant sabotage efforts.
Failure to see beyond their functional silo:
---Unwilling to communicate or collaborate with others outside of his unit.
---Makes decisions that benefit his job but clearly hurt the overall company.
---Resists change that impacts him but clearly benefits the organization.
---Hoards information that might benefit others outside of his unit. ----Co-workers complain that the manager is out of touch with the organization’s mission.
Inability to deliver expected results:
---Results consistently below goal, especially those that are measurable.
---Manager blames others or makes excuses for their failure.
---Manager avoids discussions about setting, tracking and progressing toward goals.
---Manager spends too much time, energy and resources on low priority activity.
---Manager demonstrates a defeated or negative attitude.
---Team unaware of how they contribute to the manager’s or organization’s goals.
Watch this webinar and learn how to overcome those failures.

Implicitly or explicitly all competing businesses employ a strategy to select a mix
of marketing resources. Formulating such competitive strategies fundamentally
involves recognizing relationships between elements of the marketing mix (e.g.,
price and product quality), as well as assessing competitive and market conditions
(i.e., industry structure in the language of economics).
