SUBUNIT: Fruits
Lesson1
Time: 40 minutes
Age group: 6 - 7 years old
Resources - Materials:
Erasmulis and Erasmula figure,
silent, loud, angry figures,
laminated papers, board
markers, real fruits and a bowl,
a big cube with fruits’ images,
students’ cushions, A 3 papers,
old magazines, PowerPoint
presentation, classroom’s
computer, whiteboard,
Recycled language: Colours,
numbers

bananas, pears, oranges,
strawberries)
Objectives:
Pupils should be able to:
 identify the fruits taught
 name at least four fruits (apples, bananas, pears, oranges,
strawberries)
 comprehend basic classroom language
 follow teacher’s instructions

Introduction
The teacher presents the heroes of the today lesson, Erasmula and
Erasmulis. The two children say goodmorning to the children and
ask from them to sing the “Goodmorning” song with them.
The two friends want to make a fruit salad. That’s why they went to
the fruit market. They mention the fruits (apples, bananas, pears,
oranges, strawberries) they have bought. Pupils repeat the words after
the teacher. The teacher uses different figures to show the way they
will repeat the word (i.e. silently, loudly, in an angry way).
Teacher asks the pupils to identify the fruits’ colours, thus recycling
previously learned colours.
Note: We don’t expect the pupils to learn all the words in the first
lesson. The fruits will be repeated and revised in the next lesson.

Activities
Activity 1: Erasmulis and Erasmula are ready to make the fruit salad.
They give the recipe to the students. Children are given A4
laminated papers presenting a big bowl. Then, they are asked to
follow the recipe read by the teacher and draw with a marker the
ingredients of the fruit salad. Every time, one student comes in front
and puts in a big bowl the real fruits.
Activity 2: Erasmulis and Erasmula ask the children to play the game
“Pumb Up the Volume” Hide-and-Seek game. The teacher sends one
pupil out of the room to be the "Seeker". Then, either the teacher or a
pupil hides one of the five fruits. When the pupil-seeker returns, all
of the pupils in the room say the name of the fruit over and over again
as the Seeker tries to find it. The pupils must speak softer and quieter
as the Seeker moves further away from the hidden fruit. As he/she
moves closer, the class pumps up the volume by repeating the word
louder and louder until the fruit is found. Then, the teacher hides
another fruit and another pupil becomes the Seeker.
Activity 3: Pupils are asked to sit on their cushions in a circle. Then,
the teacher gives a big dice to the children. The dice has fruits
images on its sides. Each pupil throws the dice and says the phrase “I
like _________” (the word of the fruit shown on the dice). The rest
children repeat the word three times.
i.e.
- I like apples!
- Apples, apples, apples.
In this way, the children create fruit lyrics. When the game ends they
create the following short song:
- I like apples!
- Apples, apples, apples.
- I like bananas!
- Bananas, bananas, bananas.
- I like pears!
- Pears, pears, pears.
- I like oranges!
- Oranges, oranges, oranges.
- I like strawberries!
- Strawberries, strawberries, strawberries.
- We like fruits!
- Fruits, fruits, fruits.

Evaluation:
Children are asked to choose which fruit they like the most. The
teacher presents fruit sketches done by the older students of the
school. Then, she gives A3 pages to the children and asks from them
to sketch the fruit they have chosen. The teacher will provide the
children with old magazines or old, used books. Children will search
for the colour they want and they will cut the papers into very small
pieces. Then, using a glue, they will decorate their favorite fruit. At
the end of the lesson, the students will present their work to the whole
class saying the sentence “I like ___________ (their favorite fruit).
Two students are working on the computer using the on line
application www.onemotion.com/flash/sketch-paint/ to sketch their
favorite fruit. They can also use Microsoft Paint to sketch their
favorite fruit.
This art activity will continue in an art lesson.

3rd lesson plan fruits niki papaeftsthiou

  • 1. 3rd LESSON PLAN Created by Niki Papaefstathiou (Cyprus) UNIT: ENVIRONMENT SUBUNIT: Fruits Lesson1 Time: 40 minutes Age group: 6 - 7 years old Resources - Materials: Erasmulis and Erasmula figure, silent, loud, angry figures, laminated papers, board markers, real fruits and a bowl, a big cube with fruits’ images, students’ cushions, A 3 papers, old magazines, PowerPoint presentation, classroom’s computer, whiteboard, Recycled language: Colours, numbers New language: Fruits (apples, bananas, pears, oranges, strawberries) Objectives: Pupils should be able to:  identify the fruits taught  name at least four fruits (apples, bananas, pears, oranges, strawberries)  comprehend basic classroom language  follow teacher’s instructions Time Procedure 4’ 6’ 4’ Introduction The teacher presents the heroes of the today lesson, Erasmula and Erasmulis. The two children say goodmorning to the children and ask from them to sing the “Goodmorning” song with them. The two friends want to make a fruit salad. That’s why they went to the fruit market. They mention the fruits (apples, bananas, pears, oranges, strawberries) they have bought. Pupils repeat the words after the teacher. The teacher uses different figures to show the way they will repeat the word (i.e. silently, loudly, in an angry way). Teacher asks the pupils to identify the fruits’ colours, thus recycling previously learned colours. Note: We don’t expect the pupils to learn all the words in the first lesson. The fruits will be repeated and revised in the next lesson. Whole class Whole class Whole class
  • 2. 8’ 8’ 5’ Practise Activities Activity 1: Erasmulis and Erasmula are ready to make the fruit salad. They give the recipe to the students. Children are given A4 laminated papers presenting a big bowl. Then, they are asked to follow the recipe read by the teacher and draw with a marker the ingredients of the fruit salad. Every time, one student comes in front and puts in a big bowl the real fruits. Activity 2: Erasmulis and Erasmula ask the children to play the game “Pumb Up the Volume” Hide-and-Seek game. The teacher sends one pupil out of the room to be the "Seeker". Then, either the teacher or a pupil hides one of the five fruits. When the pupil-seeker returns, all of the pupils in the room say the name of the fruit over and over again as the Seeker tries to find it. The pupils must speak softer and quieter as the Seeker moves further away from the hidden fruit. As he/she moves closer, the class pumps up the volume by repeating the word louder and louder until the fruit is found. Then, the teacher hides another fruit and another pupil becomes the Seeker. Activity 3: Pupils are asked to sit on their cushions in a circle. Then, the teacher gives a big dice to the children. The dice has fruits images on its sides. Each pupil throws the dice and says the phrase “I like _________” (the word of the fruit shown on the dice). The rest children repeat the word three times. i.e. - I like apples! - Apples, apples, apples. In this way, the children create fruit lyrics. When the game ends they create the following short song: - I like apples! - Apples, apples, apples. - I like bananas! - Bananas, bananas, bananas. - I like pears! - Pears, pears, pears. - I like oranges! - Oranges, oranges, oranges. - I like strawberries! - Strawberries, strawberries, strawberries. - We like fruits! - Fruits, fruits, fruits.   • 3. 5’ Evaluation: Children are asked to choose which fruit they like the most. The teacher presents fruit sketches done by the older students of the school. Then, she gives A3 pages to the children and asks from them to sketch the fruit they have chosen. The teacher will provide the children with old magazines or old, used books. Children will search for the colour they want and they will cut the papers into very small pieces. Then, using a glue, they will decorate their favorite fruit. At the end of the lesson, the students will present their work to the whole class saying the sentence “I like ___________ (their favorite fruit). Two students are working on the computer using the on line application www.onemotion.com/flash/sketch-paint/ to sketch their favorite fruit. They can also use Microsoft Paint to sketch their favorite fruit. This art activity will continue in an art lesson. Individual work
