3-0 PROJECT PLANNING - The purpose of Project Planning is to define the exact parameters of a project and ensure that all the pre-requisites for Project Execution and Control are in place.
Project Planning is an opportunity to identify and resolve any remaining issues and answer outstanding questions that may undermine the goals of the project or threaten its success. It is an opportunity to plan and prepare, as opposed to react and catch up.
2. IT’S NOT THE PLAN
THAT’S IMPORTANT,
IT’S THE PLANNING.
DR. GRAMME EDWARDS
3. Project Planning builds upon the work performed during Project Startup.
The project definition and scope are validated with appropriate
Stakeholders, starting with the Construction Manager, and the Client
Representative. The Triple Constraints – Project Scope, Budget, and
Programme – are refined and confirmed, and Risk assessment activities
advance to the mitigation stage. The Project Startup deliverables – the
components of the Project Definition Document (PDD) are further
developed, enhanced, and refined until they form a definitive plan for the
rest of the project.

5. Project Management Plan (PMP) - a document that describes in
detail the project boundaries, including defining the deliverables:
how they will be produced, who will produce them during the
course of the project, and the means by which changes to the
deliverables will be identified and managed.
This is a picture in time and once approved is the baseline by which
scope changes and performance will be managed.
The document continues to be refined throughout the project as
new information is known.
