The document discusses the research, planning, problem solving, and technical/management challenges involved in producing a vaporwave-style fanzine. Key areas of research included conducting a survey to understand audience preferences, examining layouts of other magazines, and analyzing color schemes of similar fanzines. Planning covered selecting appropriate photo shoot locations and creating layout plans. Experiments helped develop skills like applying visual effects. Not having access to Adobe Illustrator and last-minute train booking issues presented technical and management problems.
The document summarizes the student's progress over 7 weeks of planning and research for a fanzine project. In week 1, the student feels confident in their skills and knowledge but wants to do more research. By week 3, the student has identified locations for photography and conducted a survey to inform their work. Problem solving in weeks 4-5 helped the student learn new software. Planning in weeks 6-7 included locations, models, budgets, and developing color schemes, with additional layout plans still needed. The student created a Gantt chart to help manage the project schedule.
The document discusses the locations the author will use to take photos for their project. They will take photos at Sheffield Botanical Gardens, focusing on the Grade II listed glass pavilion. They will also take photos at The Winter Garden in Sheffield. Another potential location is Manchester's Chinatown due to its inspiration for vaporwave genre. The author notes challenges with each location, such as lighting conditions or frequent events.
The document discusses potential problems and solutions related to different aspects of photography and video production. It addresses issues that may occur with equipment, software, personnel, locations, data storage, and specific challenges of creating a fanzine. Suggested solutions include using safety features on cameras, keeping software updated, planning shoots in advance, backing up files frequently using cloud storage and external drives, and accounting for page bleed when designing fanzine layouts. The document also describes experiments conducted to create a "VHS effect" in Photoshop by adding text, applying noise, stretching and warping pixel rows, and using the shear filter to mimic the distortions sometimes seen on old videotapes.
Jack Fraser Ward proposes creating a vaporwave fanzine over 14 weeks. The main medium will be graphic design using Photoshop to create artwork in the vaporwave style, incorporating his own photography. Inspiration comes from vaporwave musicians and artists. The concept is to produce two 12-page fanzine issues, advertisements, and possibly a t-shirt design. Evaluation will include peer and online feedback to assess design and content. Production will involve studio photography, photo editing, layout design, and special effects to achieve the vaporwave aesthetic.
The document discusses graphic design research methods and provides examples of existing vaporwave products. It describes primary, secondary, and tertiary research methods and provides examples of each. It then analyzes the work of graphic designer Aaron Campbell, noting his vaporwave-style artwork. Finally, it examines the designs of three Spanish-language vaporwave fanzine covers, identifying common vaporwave design elements like the use of purple and green colors, classical statues, and glitch effects that reference 1980s/1990s technology. The document breaks down the covers into sections and discusses the aesthetics and conventions used in each one.
This document summarizes and analyzes three vaporwave fanzine front covers and vaporwave merchandise from an online store. It examines design elements and conventions commonly found in vaporwave artwork, such as the use of Greek statues, palm trees, neon colors, glitches, and nostalgic references to the 1980s and 1990s. The document breaks down the front covers into sections and identifies recurring images, fonts, and styles. It also analyzes colors used in the front covers and common target demographics for vaporwave art and merchandise. Overall, the document provides insight into the aesthetics, themes, and techniques of the vaporwave genre in order to inform the creation of original vaporwave-style designs.
This document discusses potential problems and solutions related to photography equipment, software, data backup, storage, and power for a photography project. It identifies common equipment issues like cameras or lenses getting damaged and recommends using safety straps and lens caps. Software issues like outdated programs are addressed by setting up automatic updates. Data backup is suggested by copying photos from SD cards to laptops/cloud storage. Running low on storage space could be remedied by using external hard drives or cloud storage. Power issues may require charging equipment regularly. The document also details experiments conducting VHS-style visual effects on images to create an authentic retro look for a fanzine. Techniques like adding text, noise, color adjustments and glitch lines are tested
The document provides details on the planning and design process for a fanzine about the musical group BROCKHAMPTON. It includes analyses of mood boards, color schemes, fonts, and pagination for the fanzine. For the color scheme, the document examines colors used in BROCKHAMPTON album artwork and merchandise. Specific page designs are outlined, such as lyrics pages with contrasting colors and textures. The front and back covers will feature the group with thermal filters and block borders. Interior pages will include interviews, song lists, and album information graphically presented with edited photos of the group.
The document discusses several existing fanzines focused on different topics such as Gorillaz, K-pop, and Newcastle United Football Club. It analyzes the types of content, designs, subjects, and writing styles used in each fanzine. The research found that fanzines typically include content submitted by fans in the form of opinions, art, and interviews and utilize bright colors, images, and informal writing to engage dedicated followers of the topic.
The document describes the process of creating a Star Wars movie poster. It involves:
- Sizing up an image of Han Solo and placing it in the center of the canvas.
- Cutting out Han Solo's body and adjusting the position.
- Lowering the opacity and adding an outer glow to Han Solo's head to blend it into the background.
- Adding cutouts of Lando and Chewbacca and adjusting them similarly.
- Adding the Millennium Falcon ship and adjusting it.
- Creating laser beams using brush strokes and transforming them.
- Adding a title and the Star Wars logo.
The document provides an evaluation of the student's research, planning, time management, technical qualities, and aesthetic qualities for a magazine production project. Some strengths identified include investigating existing successful products for inspiration, conducting a useful survey, creating a detailed schedule, and developing a style sheet. Weaknesses discussed are focusing research on broad techniques not used, creating flat plans that went unused, and lack of detail in font selection for the front cover. The student also reflects on needing better time management and setting a more realistic schedule.
The document describes the process the student took to create a poster for a class project on Star Wars. They began by finding an image of Han Solo and sizing it to be the centerpiece. They then cut out Solo's body and adjusted the opacity and added a glow to make him fit on the background better. Following the same process, the student added images of Lando and Chewbacca. Next, they included the Millennium Falcon and added laser beams extending from it. Finally, the student added the title and Star Wars logo to complete the poster.
The document discusses pre-production plans for a gaming magazine, including:
- Researching color schemes and choosing red, green, and blue as primary colors associated with gaming brands.
- Selecting fonts like "Robo" for the masthead and "Accidental Presidency" for headings to relate to gaming.
- Developing layout concepts with elements like a free poster offer, side stories, headlines, and images.
- Outlining a shooting schedule at a gaming center to photograph a league of legends event.
- Preparing interview questions about the history and future of gaming for players at the center.
- Noting the camera and locations needed for photos to illustrate stories.
The audience research showed that the target audience for the gaming magazine is predominantly male teenagers aged 15-20 who play video games regularly. They prefer to get their gaming news and information online rather than from physical magazines. While some read magazines monthly or weekly, online content will be key. The front cover and content of the magazine are most important for potential buyers. Information should be presented in both short facts and longer detailed articles. Readers expect to pay an average price point similar to established gaming magazines.
This document summarizes the process taken to create a magazine double page spread about esports. Screenshots were taken of an esports tournament to be used. An interview was conducted with the manager of a gaming center. Images were also taken at the gaming center. In InDesign, a background image was selected and text boxes were used to layout the interview responses. Fonts, sizes and colors were adjusted to create a uniform style across the spread. An infographic was also added using images found online.
The document provides a summary and evaluation of the author's research, planning, production, and peer feedback for a magazine project. Some key strengths highlighted include thorough research, a detailed schedule, and consistent use of color. Weaknesses included broad research techniques not directly applied and lack of detail in planning. Peer feedback praised the professional style and layout but suggested adding more content to empty spaces. The author agreed more could be added to the front cover to make it less sparse.

2. Interview:
You should document the process of getting your interview. You should produce a range of questions and also a list of
interviewees.
You should provide an unedited transcript of the interview as well as at least one draft of it.
Interviews can be written in whatever style you prefer.
3. Interview:
1. How do you think Brockhampton handled the Ameer situation? Could the have done anything any better?
2. What is the next move for Ameer as a musician? What would you like to see him do?
3. Do you think Brockhampton are better or worse without Ameer? Why?
4. How much more can Brockhampton grow?
5. How many more albums do Brockhampton have in them?
6. Do you have have any unpopular Brockhampton opinions?
1. They did fine, they seem to be handling it in the best way I think they could
2. Disappear. Couldn’t care less what he does
3. Hard to say until I hear the full album, honestly he was one of my favourite members until I heard about what he
did so it definitely feels like an absence but hopefully we’ll continue to see the rest of the members grow and come
even more into their own
4. Who knows? Anything it possible
5. Same as above, although it would be a shame if they didn’t do at least a couple more. They have even more
potential in them, I know it
6. Matt champion is so overrated, something about him annoys me but I cant put my finger on it
- Sarinn Scarnon (The Official Brockhampton HipHop Page)
4. Interview:
1. I approve of them dropping Ameer, but I don’t like how they took the solution into their own hands. When we talk
about things concerning abuse, its important to give the victim/survivor full control. I don’t think they did that well
enough. Cutting off Ameer was the second best thing and it was a positive step forward
2. We should’t give him our attention. Abusers aren't worthy of our time
3. Better, I sometimes feel like he was some filler. Like they had to give him an obligatory 16 bars or something
4. I don’t think they can get much better than this, to be honest, and that’s not a bad thing. They're just really good
5. 2 more after iridescence
6. I would love to see them add more members
- Jo Choe (The Official Brockhampton HipHop Page)
5. Interview:
1. Very well, I'm not sure how they could have done it any better
2. To not be in the public eye in any way, shape or form
3. Haven't decided yet, loved the days of our lives but I'm waiting for iridescence to come out to make a full
judgement
4. I think they could be globally famous
5. Probably a couple but people might get bored so they should space them out
6. Don’t have any sorry
- Jess Prophet
6. Interview:
1. They handled it very well. They took their time to think and made a good decision without rushing it and it turned out great
2. He could continue doing music but I doubt people will listen to it because in my opinion he was one of the weakest members in
the group and because of the accusations. He brought a somewhat heavier side to their music, but alone he wont do anything
good.
3. They will do better, as I said, Ameer was kind of different to the rest of the group. He didn’t fit in and his style was way weaker
than any of the other members
4. They are only at the beginning of their career despite already having 3 albums a mix tape and another album on they way. There is
a lot more to do, a lot of time to become better and its only the start of Brockhampton’s career
5. At least 2 with the best year of our lives trilogy, but I know they also have a contract of 6 albums with RCA, however I am unsure if
that was signed before or after the saturation trilogy.
6. They probably wont become mainstream because they have a different style, but they will develop a niche and nurture it
- Derek Laroche (The Official Brockhampton HipHop Page)
7. Interview:
1. I think the whole situation was very volatile and any move that they made would have backlash however they have
received a lot of support from the fans
2. I would like to see him do solo work as a musician however as a person his entire career could potentially be
tainted
3. I don’t think we have seen the true Brockhampton without Ameer yet and they can only get bigger so we will see
4. I think they currently have unlimited potential. They are only just coming into their full character so this is where
they will either excel or break
5. The albums they have created show progression throughout. However they have written 2 albums which have not
been released due to the Ameer situation so we will have to see how this effects them creatively
6. They seem hesitant to take support from others and do it on their own. This isn't a bad thing however they should
take help when they need it
- Jack Henderson
8. Copy:
All the other written elements of your fanzine are up to you but should be documented here. If you decide to write a
review, a polemic, an article or anything else, it needs to be documented here.
Drafts are good so it is worth writing a first draft then producing a second which not only checks for spelling and grammar
errors but also ensures that your work has a consistent style, quality and structure.
Recording your research, as and when it happens, is also a very strong idea. If you need to look up a fact or read an article,
record that.

13. Introduction
BROCKHAMPTON have finally dropped their 4th studio album. The first album under RCA, the first album of 2018 but
most importantly the first album without founding member, Ameer Vann. After recording the whole thing in 10 days at
the famous Abbey Road right after their European tour this is the first instalment of “The Best Years of Our Lives”
trilogy. I wouldn’t be expecting a year as saturated (pun intended) as last year due to the boys being on tour a lot of
this year and probably early next year as well.
14. Songs worth a listen
WEIGHT
This song has not only managed to become my favourite song on the album it has become my favourite song that ‘The
best boyband since One Direction’ have ever produced. The combination of Kevin Abstract pouring his heart out to the
audience and giving us a further insight into his battle of finding his sexuality and how he wants to care more for his
friends after what happened with Ameer. It everything we expect from Kevin and then some. To perfectly contrast the
slow, heartfelt performance it goes into a fast paced solo from Joba who raps about the hardships of life and how there
is segregation in the world. The final solo verse is from the only Dom McLennon, who with his clever wordplay, delivers
a verse that brought himself to tears the first time he performed it live.
TONYA
This is the first song that the boys performed after Ameer was kicked out the group and we now finally have a studio
version. It combines the beautiful slow harmonies from Bearface and the soft chorus from serpentwithfeet. The verse
from Kevin that refers to the scandals of Ameer and how he’d happily trade all of his fame to live quietly in his home
state of Texas is echoed by Merlyns verse of his instability within stardom and how he wants to stay humble
throughout the fame. All of this is tied together nicely by a beat that perfectly matches the mood of each beat.
15. Songs worth a listen
FABRIC
Another track that kicks off with Kevin opening his mind to the audience as he raps about how the fans have become
too greedy and how new outlets only to notice of BROCKHAMPTON when it is to do with controversy. It then goes into
Dom who compares himself to Nikola Tesla who was a victim of capitalism. As the song picks up pace Merlyn’s verse
starts it off, bearface keeps it slow and then when the drums kick in Kevin delivers a verse that keeps the audience
buzzing and they end the album with a banger.
Unfortunately there are very few albums with no songs that are seen as not up to scratch and this album is not one of
them. Don’t get me wrong, Iridescence is a great album given the circumstances and with the amount they have to live
up to but this album has some songs that just don’t make me feel the same. Songs such as BERLIN, WHERE THE CASH
AT and DISTRICT just don’t sound quite right in my opinion. They all seem to have the drowning sound in the
background that distracts you from the lyrics and nobody really has a stand out performance on these tracks. They
bring energy but that’s only for the live performances in my opinion, I don’t want to feel shoehorned energy whilst I'm
sat in my room or driving my car.
16. Conclusion
So now for my final verdict, this album is good, very good. Is it the best thing BROCKHAMPTON have released? No, I'm
still waiting for something to come around and top Saturation 3. I do however believe that this is an amazing album in
terms of the circumstances. Since April they have signed a $15 million record deal to RCA, kicked out a founding
member Ameer Vann after sexual assault allegations, took a holiday to Hawaii to get away from the media, released 4
singles, scrapped a whole album, completed a European tour and recorded a new album in 10 days at Abbey Road. So
with all that said can anyone expect them to produce a perfect 15 track album with no flaws that all fans love. No you
can but they gave it a bloody good go and they have come out with a heartfelt album that have tracks that have easily
made it in to some of my favourite BROCKHAMPTON tracks, ever.

18. After listening to Iridescence at least 10 times over I can say that it is an album that grows on you. After the first listen I
felt that there was too much drowning sounds that plagued the background of a lot of the songs, but after listening to
the records for the second time and focusing on the lyrics deeply the background noise dies out and you are left with
very very strong lyrics which carry a lot of meaning and really tug on the heartstrings. Examples of these songs are
NEW ORLEANS, J’OUVERT, BERLIN and DISTRICT. The sad thing about this is most of these songs are at the beginning of
the album which doesn’t kick it off as well as I’d like. However songs like THUG LIFE and WEIGHT really redeem the
start of the album in my opinion, I mean WEIGHT has managed to make its way to my favourite BROCKHAMPTON track.
WEIGHT starts of with Kevin Abstract laying down a verse that really brings emotion and is just so Kevin. With lines
such as a him feeling like he's “the worst in the boy band” and that he's “still worried bout when Ashlan finna put the
razor down” however the most notable line in my opinion is “And every time she took her bra off my dick would get
soft”. This is Kevin showing the struggles he had whilst growing up trying to find his sexuality and I feel like that’s what
BROCKHAMPTON fans want to hear. Because BROCKHAMPTON put themselves out as a safe space for kids that don’t
fit in whether it be because of their sexuality, race or views, this verse really shows that if people look up to this artist
rapping publicly to millions of people about him battling with his sexuality it really helps people who don’t have that
confidence. After Kevin's heartfelt verse Joba really takes this somewhat depressing song into something that makes
you just want to dance and feel good whilst still admiring his hard hitting lyrics about the broad struggles of life. After
Joba you get Dom take it slow again and emphasise Joba’s verse about life is cruel and “not as simple as they teach in
school”. Whilst Dom performed this for the first time he actually broke down crying on stage toward the end of the
verse and I imagine a lot of the fans joined him.
