Social won’t work without search….and today search will be improved by social...Michael Pranikoff
Presentation by PR Newswire Global Director of Emerging Media – Michael Pranikoff – at the IABC 2012 World Congress in Chicago, IL June 2012. Search and social are on a collision course. Google, Bing, Baidu, Sina, and traditional search engines all over the world are adding social components just as Facebook, Twitter, Foursquare, and other popular social tools are seeing their content into search and providing capabilities within their applications. Marketing and communication professionals around the world want to take advantage of the trends, but many are stuck in organizations where the search teams and social teams, let alone the marketing and PR teams, rarely talk. Integrating search and social together can have extraordinary results, increasing the visibility and engagement of your brand, product, or message with your intended audience.
Social Listening in Practice: Reputation & Crisis MonitoringBrandwatch
Every organization, regardless of size, will encounter a crisis at some point. Thankfully, not every organization will have to deal with one involving serious loss of life or injury. But every organization will encounter reputation issues with differing degrees of severity and impact.
But no matter what the size of your business, the principles and processes for effective crisis communications in the social media age are the same.
Our new guide outlines best practices for detecting and responding to a crisis, while also exploring:
- What reputation monitoring actually means
- How to identify a crisis, intelligently assess the damage, escalate and respond
- Real-world crisis case studies from Boeing, the Beverly Hills Hotel, United Airlines, Marriott Hotel & Walmart/ASDA

When %*#! Hits The Fan - Managing Social Media Crisis SituationsBrandon Chesnutt
A digital crisis situation can come from anywhere: a poor customer experience shared on YouTube, the offhand comments of an employee on Facebook, a blog post that creates a movement or a media story that spreads across the Internet like wildfire. Social media takes no prisoners and companies of all shapes and sizes, even those without an active online presence, run the risk of being exposed to the fury of online audiences.
So, how should companies update their communications and digital strategies to deal with the realities of social media? What should organizations have at the ready in order to quickly react to the next online crisis faced by their brand?
My December 2015 talk at Lunch Ann Arbor Marketing discussed the important elements of a social media crisis communications plan, highlighted the parties who need to have a seat at the table and provided tactical recommendations for analyzing social content that could spark a firestorm.
The example shared in the presentation is a real social media crisis situation experienced by my team. Our work resulted in an honorable mention in PR Daily's 2013 Digital PR Awards ("Renegade Employee's YouTube Videos Revealed as Hoax").

2017 NYSCOSS Presentation - Distrupting Poverty - A Moral ImperativeRobert Mackey
It is more likely Americans will experience downward social mobility than upward. Poverty is increasing in alarming fashion. What does this mean for learning, teaching, and leading public schools? How can leadership teams re-engineer their district to disrupt poverty's effects? Public schools stand at the threshold of a system that has behind it a history of over five decades of testing for identification and accountability since ESEA was first enacted. In front of them is a landscape that is shaped by dramatic changes in demographics; ever-changing technology; significant generational differences; and, policy changes at both the federal and state level that could deliver long sought after changes to top down accountability concepts. As educators, we can stand in the threshold, teaching and leading based on our past, or we can step through the door and facilitate learning in this new and constantly shifting environment. Fifty-on percent of school children attending public schools in America live in poverty based on the federal definition. We have disaggregated student demographic data as it relates to achievement for many years to determine improvement initiatives. In recent years we have experienced significant increases in the costs associated with remedial instruction and special education; both while overall student enrollment in most rural schools is decreasing. The percentage of students eligible for free and reduced lunch has reached all-time highs in many rural schools, even mirroring urban numbers. What are the implications of all this in the schoolhouse when it comes to teaching and leading? How can a school board support the work of a district improvement team to disrupt the impact of poverty when it comes to ensuring ALL students learn at high levels?

June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202

Embracing GenAI - A Strategic ImperativePeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

CRISIS COMMUNICATIONS
‣ CYBERBULLYING & CRISIS MANAGEMENT
‣ Crisis communication and social
media research becoming an
established area .
‣ Rise of social media to formulate
opportunities, but raise challenges.
‣ Establishes identity, reputation, and
communities (Kietzmann et al, 2011).
‣ Reputations are at risk due to being
“intangibles” & influenced by
perceptions of others (Ott &
Theunissen, 2015).
‣ Emotional support & venting
(Brummette & Sisco, 2015).
‣ Reactions differ on social media
depending on situation and
community (Gaspar et al 2016).

DEVELOPING A RISK COMMUNICATION STRATEGY
‣ RCS 1. Inform or educate people about the risks and provide examples of
those risks.
‣ RCS 2. Behavior Change and Protective Action. Encouraging individual risk-
reduction behavior and to motivate people to take action when they see
something.
‣ RCS 3. Warnings and Emergency Information. Provide direction and
behavioral guidance should they see something.
‣ RCS 4. Problem Solving and Conflict Resolution. Involving the community in
risk management decisions that aid in resolving health and safety
‣ RCS 5. Measure and listen in real time for early warning signs in case this
happens again to communities offline and online.
