The 1960 Presidential Election
Kennedy is generally considered to have won the national popular vote by 112,827, a margin of
0.17% (although the unusual nature of the election in Alabama has caused some to question this
figure)[2] and though Nixon carried more individual states (26 to 22),[3] Kennedy won a 303 to
219 Electoral College victory.
The 1960 presidential election was the closest election since 1916, which can be explained by a
number of factors.[4] Kennedy benefited from the economic recession of 1957 58, which hurt the
standing of the incumbent Republican Party, and he had the advantage of 17 million more
registered Democrats than Republicans.[5] Furthermore, the new votes that Kennedy, the first
Roman Catholic president, gained among Catholics almost neutralized

Ox Looks At Man
It is extremely crucial to have the ability to feel satisfied with very little in life. The poem An Ox
Looks at Man, by Carlos Drummond de Andrade, is about an ox judging humans for forgetting a
crucial element in life. The poem s language suggests that while the ox is able to remain content
with life, humans can never feel satisfied as shown by the ox s description of humans physical
characteristics and emotional behaviors. The Ox s assessment of humankind s physical
characteristics describes not only humankind s state of mind, but the Ox s as well. The Ox
criticizes people by claiming that they have a translucent inner emptiness. The Ox claims that
humans have a large void in our souls. Humankind s inner emptiness is based on the fact... Show

It is supposed to be simple and crucial. Yet, humans are unable to realize this truth, thus causing the
Ox to question if it truly is vital. Not only that, but humans are also causing the truth to scatter and

cannot see the truth, they do not realize that they are ruining it. The Ox looks at humans because it
is worried that they will deteriorate this truth that has been so vital to its life.
The Ox s assessment of humankind s physical characteristics and emotional behaviors shows
humankind s inability to reach a state of satisfaction as well as the Ox s ability to reach a state
of serenity. The Ox has found to way to view life as fulfilling, but it judges humans because it is
worried that they will never discover this element in their lives. Most people believe that having

Robert Frost Explication Analysis
Poetry Explication Essay The poem Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening was published in
Robert Frost s New Hampshire in 1924 (Pritchard). The poem is among the most easily
recognizable and familiar works written by Frost. On the surface, this poem is a short encounter at
the edge of a snowy forest. Perhaps its outer simplicity is what makes the poem stand out in the
minds of readers. The straightforward structure and balanced rhymepattern make it easy to recite
and the imagery Frost evokes is both beautiful and engaging. However, this surface level is only a
façade to the underlying subject matter. As Ciardi puts it, the surface level events display ... the
pretended simplicity of the narrative, suggesting that Frost intends a deeper... Show more content on

He also doesn t describe the physical traits or gender of the narrator (hereinafter referred to as
male). This is an attempt to make the situation more easily relatable to a large pool of readers
representing any errand as well as any person. As Ciardi puts it, The errand ... is left generalized
in order the more aptly to suggest any errand in life and, therefore, life itself (Ciardi 14). Ciardi
goes on to examine the man talked about in the poem. This man represents the village of mankind
and thus tells us that the narrator is divided or has chosen to divide himself from society at least
for a short horse ride (Ciardi 14). This division is an important theme in the poem, instantly
showing us that the reflection is a highly personal experience for the narrator. The horse in the
poem, on the other hand, is the narrator s connection to reality. Ciardi goes so far as to call the
horse the foil of the protagonist for disagreeing with his actions demonstrated in the line My little
horse must think it queer / To stop without a farmhouse near (CITE). This horse has been subject to
analysis by other critics as well, Virginia Faulkner explains that the horse represents male sexual
potency (Faulkner 560). Though not many critics agree with Faulkner in the respect that the poem
is dealing with an amatory adventure, the sexual connotations of the horse still adhere to its
connection with the narrator through the symbolism of

Cost Of Billboard
What Are the Added Costs of Renting a Billboard?
Other than renting a billboard, there are other costs that must be accounted for. On average,
companies will spend $500 to $1,000 to pay someone to design the billboard. Buying the vinyl
material for a bulletin billboard will cost about $500 for 700 square feet of vinyl. To lower costs,
businesses can always choose to hire a freelancer online to complete the design.
How Do I Rent the Billboard That I Want?
If the business has already found the right spot for their advertisement, the next step is actually
renting the billboard. Normally, the advertiser s name will be listed below or next to the billboard
image. Once this name is found, businesses can look up the advertising company online ... Show

They allow running text and easy changes between different advertisements. Often, companies can
rent them for a portion of the time each day or during specific time periods like rush hour.
Painted Billboards: While these were once the most popular option, painted billboards have been
increasingly replaced by graphically produced designs.
Scented Billboard: Believe it or not, companies like Bloom have used scented billboards so that
people smell scents like charcoal when they pass by the billboard.
Mobile Billboards: A mobile billboard is often placed on a car or temporarily added to large events.
While they are less common, mobile billboards are often more memorable for consumers.
No matter what a business is looking for, there are many different types of billboards and price

Create Legal Relations Essay
Intention to create legal relations
Statement of the Rule
To create a contract there must be a common intention of the parties to enter into legal obligations,
mutually communicated expressly or impliedly (Rose and Frank Co v JR Crompton Bros Ltd).
It is open for the parties to use express language to indicate an intent (or lack of) to impose legal
obligations on each other. Alternatively, this intention can be impliedly from the circumstances.
The courts use an objective test in making a determination about the intention of the parties. In
making an objective determination of the parties, intention the court looks at the surrounding
circumstances and asks if a reasonable person would regard the agreement as intended to be binding.

Government Activities
Commercial Agreements
If a government contract arises out of the commercial need for the operation of government, for
example the order of stationary or contracts to purchase vehicles, the usual contractual principles
apply to determine whether a contract has been formed.
Increased formality may be required to demonstrate the necessary legal intent when one of the
contracting parties is the government (Coogee Esplanade Surf Motel Pty Ltd v Commonwealth of
Australia).
Policy Initiatives
Where the government activity relates to a policy initiative a court may be less likely to find that
the parties intended to enter contractual relations (Administration of PNG v Leahy). In PNG v
Leahy the department of Agriculture, at the request Leahy, provided assistance to help Leahy
eliminate an infestation of cattle tick on his property, an activity which was consistent with
government policy. After the exercise, the Department was sued by Leahy who claimed damages
for breach of contract on the basis that the departmental officers did not perform their activities
skillfully.
The court held that the agreement between the parties was not contractual in nature. The conduct of
the parties constituted an administrative arrangement by which the Administration in pursuance of
its agricultural policy gave assistance to an owner to

Uncanny In The Sand-Man By Sigmund Freud
Out of Sigmund Freud s many definitions of the word uncanny, I found the definition of the
uncanny as something hidden, not known, or withheld from others the most intriguing (223). In
The Sand Man, Hoffman purposefully keeps the audience in the dark through his use of the letter
format and Nathanael s ignorance and hallucinations in order to retain the readers attention.
Upon starting The Sand Man, any reader would notice the letter style narrative, which serves to
drive the story onward through the reader s curiosity. By telling the part of the story through the
character s correspondence, Hoffman limits the amount of information the audience can receive.
Take, for example, the very first letter from Nathanael, it was only meant for Lothair, meaning
Nathanael was trying to hide information from the other characters. Nathanael even ends the
letter by telling Lothair not to say anything to Nathaniel s mother and that he will write to Clara
when he has a somewhat calmer frame of mind. (9). This deliberate action of obscuring the truth
is Freud s very definition of uncanny. In addition, even if a character is willing to express his or
her account, it will no doubt be influenced by his or her emotions and memories that may or may
not be completely accurate. Describing Coppelius as hideous, cat like, and distorted in surprising
and suspicious detail, Nathanael seems like a rather unreliable narrator (5). Not only was this
memory from his childhood and therefore

Online application technique is savvy to both the business and the worker. In spite of the fact that

shape around the circle pad of antibiotic that represents the effectiveness of an antibiotic at a given
dosage. It is measured in millimeters and included the diameter of the disk of antibiotic. We

coli, and the other was for s. epi. We covered the inside of each petri dish (that had a jelly base)
with the bacteria it was designated for. After that, we split both dishes into four sections. In the
middle of each section we would put an antibiotic disc. After all four of the antibiotics were
placed in each dish with tweezers, they were incubated overnight. The next day, we measured
the zone of inhabitance around each antibiotic disc. I had two statements in my hypothesis. If S.
epi is gram positive, then penicillin, streptomycin, and tetracycline will be effective on it
because each one reacts with gram positive bacteria. If E. coli is gram negative, then
streptomycin and tetracycline will be effective on it because each one reacts with gram positive
bacteria. I reject the first statement in my hypothesis because only one of the antibiotics was
susceptible on s. epi, while the others were resistant. I accept my second hypothesis because both
streptomycin and tetracycline were susceptible on the e. coli bacteria. We can relate this
experiment to the outside world by testing the effectiveness of antibiotics on certain diseases and
infections. This important for the care and treatment of people so they can continue living their

The production and distribution of CSDs involved four major participants: concentrate producers,
bottlers, retail channels, and suppliers.7 Concentrate Producers The concentrate producer blended
raw material ingredients, packaged the mixture in plastic canisters, and shipped those containers to
the bottler. To make concentrate for diet CSDs, concentrate makers often added artificial sweetener;
with regular CSDs, bottlers added sugar or high fructose corn syrup themselves. The concentrate
manufacturing process involved relatively little capital investment in machinery, overhead, or labor.
A typical concentrate manufacturing plant, which could cover a geographic area as large as the

My Experience At My Bedroom s Door
When a frantic knock came to my bedroom s door, I was standing in front of a three sided mirror
looking at myself. I had purchased a floral print bikini the same day I had my conversation with
Howard s cousin Myra and lucky that I had. It had taken me nearly three days looking at myself
in it for my face to no longer redden. Even with the floral wrap giving the illusion that my lower
half was covered still left very little to the imagination as to what was under it. I had even
returned to the boutique to look over less revealing swimwear, but this was what Myra had
suggested. My mind was changed when the least expected event occurred. I had overheard a
few women angry whispers about someone like me who can eat all they want and look like they
are preparing to walk down some fashion runway in Malan. Skinny girls like me were always
the ones the guys truly want and if I had what they called boobs, then I would have men walking
into walls. After looking up what boobs actually meant, I now understood what Myra was saying
and put back on my floral print bikini. I still wasn t going to get breast implants, but at least I
was no longer self conscious about being called Long Legged Hendrix behind my back when I
was in boarding school. Now I knew it was more than just an insult. It was jealousy. Once again I
caught myself looking at all of me in the three sided mirror giggling and having all thoughts of
inappropriate ideas. Whoever was disturbing my... Come in, I

In the other hand, we notice that there is a non linear distribution between Sales Advertising
(Appendix 1 Figure 3) which would lead us to build our regression model using the squared value
of advertising as well as delayed advertising..
Correlation
Before going forward and do additional analysis, we might consider looking at the multi
colinearity issues if any. In fact, the multi collinearity problem does not result in biased
coefficient estimates, but does increase the standard error of the estimates and thus reduces their
reliability. According to (Appendix 2 Correlation), we notice a low correlation between
explanatory variables: So there is no multi collinearity issue. We keep all the presented
independent variables and we carry out the regression so as to be able to go further in the analysis.
Regression is very likely to be reliable after this correlation analysis.
Regression
We might now consider doing some regression analysis. In fact, the main objective of regression
analysis is to explain variability of the dependent variable by means of one or more of independent
or control variables. Regression 1 SUMMARY OUTPUT Regression Statistics Multiple R 0.95 R

Journey s End Journey
20th Century Drama The name of this play is Journey s End, written by R. C. Sherriff.
Introduction
The name of this play is Journey s End, written by R. C. Sherriff. The play was first preformed on a
Sunday night in December 1928. By 1929 it was being shown at the Savoy Theatre where it ran
for two years.
Later I will be studying the characters of Stanhope and Osborne, and how they link in with the title
Journey s End , and I will also examine the idea of journeys. I will also study the impact the play
had, why it was so successful and journeys of the minor characters,
Hibbert, Raleigh and Trotter.

It starts at the beginning of the play, with him complaining of neuralgia. Stanhope doesn t believe
that Hibbert really has neuralgia, but thinks he is using it as an excuse to get out of the front line.
Later, Hibbert tries to leave, to go see the doctor so he can go home, but Stanhope confronts
Hibbert who still tries to leave. Stanhope threatens to shoot Hibbert, who stands there and shows
courage by telling Stanhope to shoot him.
This is a turning point in Hibbert s journey. Stanhope has realized that Hibbert may not actually
have neuralgia, but may just be terrified of what may happen in the war. Stanhope tells Hibbert
that he is terrified of what may happen, and in that moment, Hibbert decides to stay, and to fight
on. That is the major event in Hibbert s journey. Hibbert s journey went from being scared to
showing courage and bravery by staying. His journey ends in the big German attack at the end of
the play.
Trotter s journey is simpler, and mostly revolves around food, and where his next meal is coming
from. Back home trotter is a keen gardener, and has grown a prize Hollyhock. His journey ends in
the big
German attack at the end of the play.
Raleigh s journey is, and has been, strongly influenced by Stanhope, and his presence in Raleigh s
life. Stanhope knew Raleigh before the war, as their fathers were friends. When he first arrives in
the trenches, at the beginning of the play, he is very enthusiastic about

A Cross-Examination Of Themes In Walden, By Henry David...
The Journey from Enslavement to Freedom, from Society to Nature: A Cross Examination of
Themes in Thoreau s Walden and Slavery in Massachusetts
Working Thesis
In Walden, Thoreau explains that to him, slavery is not only as simple as the historically common
definition of the physical enslavement of a man or woman to another man. Slavery, in the abstract,
is both mental and physical, and society represents a seemingly unavoidable, but somewhat
overlooked form of slavery put upon us all. Thoreau hypothesizes and experiments with the
journey from enslavement of society to freedom. What characterizes enslavement? Is it mental,
physical, or both? How do people go about attaining their freedom? Can we ever achieve it
completely? The journey from slavery to freedom is a prominent theme in Thoreau s writings.
This essay cross examines these themes in the first chapter of Walden ( Economy ) with a
discourse delivered by Thoreau at an anti slavery convention, Slavery in Massachusetts , and argues
for an interpretation of Thoreau s concept of the journey from enslavement to freedom: All of
society represents enslavement, with everyone being slaves in various degrees and forms, such as
physical, mental, forced, voluntary, or self inflicted. For Thoreau, the only paths to freedom are
nature and God.

Journey to Success
The American Dream is the dream that regardless of where you are born or what social class you
are born into, anyone can attain their own version of success. In The Great Gatsby and The Pursuit
of Happyness , both protagonists pursue the path to achieving their American Dream. For both Jay
Gatsby and Christopher Gardner they are both given unfortunate privileges to where they start
their journey. Both men are lower class citizens who make less than minimum wage salaries but
that do not stop them from wanting to succeed. Chris story begins in a small apartment in San
Francisco. Chris Gardner is a black man with a minimum wage job, who lives with his wife
Linda and his 5 year old son Christopher. One day, his wife leaves him because of his lack of
income and motivation to provide for the family. That day, Chris devotes his life and his son s
life to a successful future. Chris and his son are pushed to their limits in the hope that Chris will
achieve his American Dream of being a stockbroker. Jay Gatsby is quite similar to Chris Gardner
in his story. He was born James Gatz in Louisville, Kentucky, to a couple who owned a poor
farm. James was constantly working on his family s farm and even worked other jobs as a child
just to have a decent source of income. He was a lonely little boy who lacked motivation to do

Explaining Bounded Rationality
Explaining Bounded Rationality
As proposed by Herbert Simon, bounded rationality defines the idea that clarifies the concept of the
human rationality. In other words, it maintains that there exists a limit to any individual s
intellectual capability, accessible information, and time regardless of how smart he/she may be
(Ibrahim, 2009). Undeniably, quite many decisions are often not entirely thought through since
people can only remain rational ones within the constraints of cognitive ability and time. Therefore,
it is crucial that this aspect of intelligence and its impacts are taken into consideration whenever a
solution is to be arrived at.

The War Experience in Italian Film Essay
The War Experience in Italian Film
The experience of war as it is presented throughout the history of Italian cinema is a uniquely
composite display of historical reverence and cultural consecration. An analysis of this experience
in all of its manifestations can be discerned from the evaluation of one or several works from the
post World
War II period within the corpus of the Italian cultural signification. It follows from this approach
that the essence of the results of this analysis will then represent an appreciative grasp of the
aforementioned corpus. The war experience in Italian film can be succinctly considered through a
detailed analysis of Rome, Open City (Roma, CittГ Aperta, Roberto Rossellini, 1945),

The film, which contains moments ranging from dark comedy to poignant melodrama, also relies
on stock documentary footage and intimate battle sequences to supplement the enthralling story.
The narrative progression of the film carries through effortlessly, and is accompanied by
rhetorically inventive dialogue and character associations that operate on the allegorical level. For
instance, one scene in which a group of Nazi officials murder a sheep operates metaphorically to
link Christianity to communism while simultaneously equating the fascists with butchers of the
innocent. (Forgacs 9 45)
Concomitant with this method of scrutinizing the film, many of the characters names are subject to
onomastics. Giorgio Manfredi, who later in the film changes his identity to Giovanni Episcopo, is
switched from association with St. George (typically shown slaying a dragon) to St. John (the
martyred priest of ancient Rome). The priest, Pietro Pellegrini, is translated as
Peter Pilgrim. He is associated, by virtue of his name, with the side of good and in the dominion of
religion represents a modern analog of St. Peter (A martyr who was put to death during the Roman
persecutions). Giussepina
(Pina), is the female form of Joseph, who was the patron of the Universal church. Lastly there is
Romoletto, the neighborhood child that sabotages the
Nazi events and chants the themes of the resistance without knowing their meaning. His name is

Comparing Hamlet And Gladiator
Since the beginning of time, humans have attempted to correct an unjust behavior through the act
of seeking revenge. But does seeking revenge really correct the wrongs? Mahatma Gandhi once
famously said, before you embark on a journey of revenge, dig two graves . Seeking revenge
maybe useful to punish the offender but it will never calm the inner anger. The works of Hamlet,
written by William Shakespeareand Gladiator, directed by Ridley Scott, show that Hamlet and
Maximus end up digging their own graves as they strive to get revenge for the wrongdoings that
were done to them. Hamlet and Maximus both want to seek revenge for the murder of their fatherly
figures but they both contrast each other in the ways they have their revenge. In Hamlet and

However, in Hamlet, Hamlet delays his actions and is not able to act on his intentions, while on
the other hand in Gladiator, Maximus is much more determined to have revenge. Hamlet and
Maximus both feel the responsibility to take revenge in order to restore justice or the chain of
being. In response to the internal turmoil that Hamlet is experiencing he questions his existence
and states, To be, or not to be: that is the question: Whether tis nobler in the mind to suffer the
slings and arrows of outrageous fortune, Or to take arms against a sea of troubles, And by
opposing end them (3.1.57 61). In this particular instance, Hamlet displays his hesitation towards

Fast Food Nation, by Eric Schlosser Essay
One of the most shocking books of the generation is Eric Schlosser s Fast Food Nation. The
novel includes two sections, The American Way and Meat and Potatoes, that aid him in
describing the history and people who have helped shape up the basics of the McWorld. Fast
Food Nation jumps into action at the beginning of the novel with a discussion of Carl N. Karcher
and the McDonald s brothers. He explores their roles as Gods of the fast food industry. Schlosser
then visits Colorado Springs and investigates the life and working conditions of the typical fast food
industry employee. Starting out the second section, Schlosser travels to the western side of
Colorado to examine the effects presented to the agriculture world in the new... Show more content

He wants to show a personal account of the difficulties that everyday people endure trying to
accommodate different aspects of a fast food meal possible to the consumer. By stressing this,
Schlosser also shows the need for the sanitation of fast food to be dealt seriously. He directs
these ideas towards the less informed of American society. Schlosser wants to reach out to those
that wish to become more informed of the fast food aspect of America, and to Americans, fast
food has become a normal aspect of life. Even Professer Pothukuchi, of Wayne State University
agrees that fast food is destroying us: individuals, communities, work and family life, and
indeed, our very connections with the world (Pothukuchi 1). This book is intending the
audience to steer away from what seems harmless, because fast food seems innocuous, when in
reality is the opposite. Schlosser, in his novel, uses the first person narrative point of view. This
aids the reader to see through his eyes all of the events he has seen from across the nation. He
displays a large amount of irony and controversial discussion through this point of view, which in
the end helps carry his purpose of the novel. In the sub chapter Food Product Design, Schlosser
mentions in his view point that, everywhere I looked, I saw famous, widely advertised products
sitting on laboratory desks and tables (Schlosser 121). As he

Comparing Mountain Lion and Badger Essay
Comparing Mountain Lion and Badger
These are two poems that were written at the beginning and end of the nineteenth century. The
views on animal hunting and animal cruelty are very different today. Animals such as badgers were
hunted for sport; it was considered to be entertaining to track a badger using dogs and capture and
torture it until death. Animas such as the Mexican mountain lion were hunted in Mexico for a
profit, their fur was a highly sought after fashion item and was sold at very high prices.
Both the poems describe animals that are put through a chase before they are killed. The badger is
portrayed as aggressive and fierce yet he is demure, the first two characteristics are masculine but
the badger also seems ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Repetition is also used, she will never this brings home the fact that the mountain lion is dead and
all the things that were affected by her will notice the loss and be greatly affected by it. At the
beginning the repetition of, gun shows that the poet s party become un nerved and intimidated.
They are wary, as animals would be in the same situation. The alliteration of f in face , frost ,
fashioned , all add to the perfection of this creature and how amazed the poet is. As the f sound is
quite soft.
In Badger the poet sets the scene very differently to that in Mountain
Lion. Badger has a very busy and fast moving situation the beating rhythm of the poem reflects
this, it also shows the pounding beat of the badgers heart as it is running for its life. There is
tension as the dogs and men enter on the scene.
During the poem the badger varies its reaction as though it is working to a plan, like it is trying
to fool the men, runs along and bites , and, The badger grins. The strong rhyming couplets of
Badger also give an exited, noisy and chaotic atmosphere. There are ten syllables to each line and
fourteen lines in each of the two stanzas. There is also a lack of commas and pauses all the way
through until the end when the badger finally dies, and crackles, groans, and dies. The use of
commas shows the slow death of the animal as all its energy is

the implant process doesn t stop when you leave the dentist s office, since there are some key
things to know about recovering from the surgery.
The Length of Recovery
There are many factors that play into how long it will take to recover from dental implant surgery.
This includes how many implants you received and the strength of the jawbone the implant was
placed in. In fact, it can take several months for the implant to fully recover and feel completely
natural. However, most of the recovery process will take place over the first few days after the

Practice Good Oral Hygiene
The dental implant may be a fake tooth, but it is more important than ever that you practice good
oral hygiene to keep your gums and jawbone protected. Bacteria runs the risk of slowing down

All you need to do is floss and brush regularly to remove harmful bacteria that can become stuck

The Reform Of The Health Care Reform Essay
The latest health care reform has done what few policies manage to do sicken both republicans
and progressive democrats. While we can all agree that a reform of the health care system is
sorely needed, we must also acknowledge that Obamacare is not the cure all we so desperately
require. Rather, President Obama, like a medieval barber, prescribed a health care reform that
treated the symptoms of our flawed system rather than the actual disease. The subsidization of
health insuranceproviders has proven ineffective at providing affordable coverage for all.
Certainly one is likely to hear the various incendiary talking points of both the proponents and
opponents. Whether it s the republican candidates blaspheming Obamacare as socialism, or the
administration praising the success of health care for all, it is difficult to actually find constructive
dialogue. We are purview to many sound bites, but few actual solutions. We have witnessed heated
debates, but rarely do we witness intelligent discourse. If beneficial reform is to be crafted and
implemented, we must first acknowledge the issues and inconsistencies of the current system and
begin to explore alternate methods of providing health care to the American people. This diagnoses
of the flaws in our health care system must start with identifying and redefining the social
constructs of America. In most other civilized nations, it is generally accepted that it is in the best
interest of the public that every individual be

Eulogy Of Man By Ellen Goodman
In modern day society, people fill up their busy lives, trying to balance work, family, and social
life, trying to achieve their idea of a perfect life . However, some cannot manage to do
everything and focus all of their life under one aspect leaving their lives seemingly empty and
unaccomplished when they die. Ellen Goodman writes a eulogy to a man, Phil, to satirize the
workaholic lifestyle. Goodman employees rhetorical strategies to convey her attitude towards
Phil, that such a workaholic archetypes have unfulfilled lives, defined by their work. Goodman
uses descriptive diction to highlight and satirize the lifestyle and choices of the character Phil.
Are concrete language within her definite description of Phil and his life makes a double
emotional appeal, for she both mocks Phil s life path and creates sorrow with a respectful
mourning facade. Goodman characterizes Phil as Type A, a workaholic who was fifty one
years old and overweight , to appear on the surface as a normal, successful person, but her
attitude is revealed to be critical of the true Phil. Goodman s word choice builds Phil to be a plain
man, which she then uses to convey her message that a workaholic lifestyle takes over one s life
and makes a person a plane husk of character. Goodman insights strong emotions from the audience

Blindness in Ramayana Essays
Blindness in Ramayana
Temporal Blindness is where we are time blinded to what actually is going on in life due to a
focus on what is going on right now at this moment. It is as if we put something major important in
the back of our minds and then our actions are greatly dependent on that important thing we put in
the back of our mind. In the Ramayana, Ravana is temporally blind when he decides to capture Sita,
which ultimately leads to his death.
When Rama, his beloved wife Sita, and his helpful brother Lakshmana are forced to exile for
fourteen years, they encounter many demons. Rama is ultimately put to the test when he has to

Ravana was temporally blind into seeing this occurring in the future because of his
overwhelming obsession with Sita; at the time Soopanaka was in love with Rama. Ravana could
have prevented his death by not capturing the love of Rama, which causes Rama to go on the
ultimate quest into finding her and by doing so he kills the evil Ravana in revenge of him
steeling Sita. He also could have prevented his death by letting Sita go back to Rama, so his life
wouldn t be in such danger.
Temporal blindness can also be seen in my life today. I would say that our country and our
president were blind on September 11. I think we could have prevented it from happening if we
had paid attention to what was actually going on in life. I think many people here in the United
States took their life for granted. The attacks on September 11 put everyone s life into
perspective and opened their eyes from that blindness that was blocking them from seeing what
was actually occurring in the real world. I think many people before September 11 were just
living it up. I think we all believed we lived in this perfect world where everything was going just
right, until there was a pit stop that changed our lives forever. The stock market then went

limescale as possible with the wire, and replace damaged valves.
Connect a garden hose to the drain valve, and lay the free end of the hose in a sink or outside.
.Ensure the hose has no kinks and slants down. Allow the water to drain, which commonly takes
about forty minutes. If the water seems slow, shake the hose.
Clean the Tank
Find the anode rod, a recessed bolt, which is commonly on top of the water heater. Remove the hex

Fill the tank with three or four cups of apple cider vinegar. Apple cider vinegar has acidcontent that

Before police began patrolling more often no one would do this due to the fear that someone
would rob them. Many people had terrible experiences in front of their children or even by

mission known as Detroit One and they made arrests of 33 suspects of gang affiliated members
known as Latin counts. Police would not say how many Latin Counts members remain or how
the arrests will impact the gang s operations, but they did say this joint effort to root out violent
criminals has resulted in more than 140 arrests in the last year alone (Schwartz). A Fox 2 news
reporter wrote this in a news article for a live broadcast report in July to the residents of

Management Models Of Management Model
Management is the activity of getting things done with the aid of people and other resources
(Boddy, 1998). Today, organizations around the globe rely heavily on management to ensure
effective and efficient business. A wide variety of management models exist in order to
accommodate different business needs. This essay will briefly discuss various managementmodels,
but will mainly focus on the Competing Values Framework (CVF) and current examples
demonstrating two models within the CVF. A simple search in Google or a quick browse through
the library proves that vast models of management exist. Joan Magretta, author of What

135). The final model within the CVF is internal process. This model is similar to the rational goals
model, but its main focus is on consolidation and continuity within the company (Boddy, 1998).
Max Weber played a large role in the development of bureaucratic management within this model.
Bureaucratic administration allows businesses to thrive in terms of precision, continuity, unity,
and the reduction of material and personal costs, according to Weber (Weber, 1978). Though
each of these models is crucial to the CVF, the remainder of this essay will focus on comparing
and contrasting only the open systems model and internal process model. Internal process and
open system models are located diagonally from each other on the CVF diagram. That being said,
many differences exist between the two models; however, the basic management goal is similar.
These two models will be analyzed based on the framework shown in diagram B. Contemporary
examples, mainly Haier Power and Deloitte, but also Google and McDonalds, will exemplify each
model. It is important to note that many companies don t strictly follow one model. Companies
may follow certain characteristics of one model and other characteristics of another model. Every
company, regardless the model of management followed, expects management to add value to the
company. This is illustrated through financial statements. The 2013 financial statements for

The Rule Of The King
After the failure of the Judges, Israel desired a king, so they could be like all other nations.
(1Sam 5:8 paraphrased) Creating a United Monarchy meant many changes would have to take
place. At the time Israel had been theocracy and God was their King, however the elders had a
different plan. They wanted a king, even if it meant rejecting God. God told Samuel to listen to
the people, appoint them a king, but make sure they understand what the king who reigns over
them will do Samuel explained to the people that their sons would be part of the army, their
children would have to work for the king, they also would have to pay high taxes. The people
refused to listen to Samuel. So God gave them a king. The LORD replied, Do as they say, and
give them a king. (1 Sam 8:22 NLT) Then Samuel agreed and sent the people home. God was
rejected and a human monarchy would now rule Israel.
Unknown to the people God had chosen a man to serve as their king. (1Sam 9:16 17 paraphrased)
According to Hindson and Yates Saulwas the people s choice, more than God s choice for a king.
They focused on his outward appearance more than his heart. Tall, dark, and handsome, Saul was
the chosen one the appointed king. According to Hindson and Yates Despite Saul s strong
beginning (chap. 11) and being warned by Samuel to honor the Mosaic covenant (chap.12), Saul s
poor choices caused his kingdom to deteriorate rapidly. (chap.13 15) Saul s blatant disobedience

continent believing e to be India. The continent is later visited by Americo Vespucio who

According to Theodor Elze (1889) the island in The Tempest is Pantalaria, whose natural sights
correspond with the descriptions in the play, and its nearby town of African coast Calibia, served
as an inspiration to Shakespeare. Another explanation for the name Caliban is kalebon, an Arabic
word for vile dog , common reference for North African creature in England at that period. Dutch
scholar Albert Kluyver, would eliminate the cannibal, as it did not exist in English language with
the same meaning as in Shakespeare`s time, instead he believes it to mean black in gypsy
language. It is very probable that Shakespeare addressed African slaves, since Prospero himself in
the play, observes Caliban as filth , something inhuman. (Vaughan and Vaughan). The relationship
between Prospero and Caliban could be Shakespeare`s way of describing the treatment of African
slaves by European feudalists. This marvellous literature piece is a testimony of slavery and its
roots. Even more, few years after Shakespeare died, the biggest export of African slaves took
place and racism was imprinted in people`s subconscious. Shakespeare describes the horrible
manner African slaves were treated and the aggressiveness by which they responded to that
treatment, since Caliban could be a victim or aggressor, since he tried to rape Miranda. As illiterate
and simple creature,

stock market crash Essay
The Stock Market crash of 1929 has been looked at as the greatest symbol of depression is our
countries history. Although the Stock Market crashing had a huge effect on the beginning of the
Great Depression, there are still factors to consider when looking for a source to blame. It s hard to
put responsibility on the stockmarket for something so huge and disheartening. The Great
Depressionis seen as a slippery road downward, not a sudden jolt into hopelessness.
The Stock Market in the 1920 s had consistently seen prices climb over the last few years. By the

The banking system of the 1920 s is not what it should have been. Today we have insurance on the
money we put in the bank, so if that bank should go under, we can still have our money. This was
not the case in the 20 s. If your bank closed, and many of them did, you lost all the money you
had saved. No one could help you and many families ended up on the street due to this loss.
Bread lines were now crowded as people tried any way they could to feed themselves and their
children. Suicide was now at a high as well. Many businessmen or farmers and really anyone else
who had lost their job or business due to the times often committed suicide as the easy way out.
The way out of the Depression was a long road ahead.
FDR, in my opinion, is mainly the reason that the Great Depression ended. FDR would hold
fireside chats everyday on the radio. This was very consoling for a country who thought they
were headed nowhere. It was nice to hear a man of power tell you that everything was going to be
okay. He gained even more great respect after announcing the New Deal.
The first New Deal was aimed towards business recovery. He insisted that the banking industry
now be regulated and developed F.D.I.C. that would insure your deposits up to $5,000. This is the
same system that we use today.

Differences Between The And The Islamic World
From deep within the mountains of Central Asia, a group of nomads arose who would one day
rule over half of the Islamic world. Though the tribes separated, all three of the greatest empires to
grace the Islamic world began with Turkic roots. Over the years they developed into distinct
cultures of their own, with unique religious interpretations and ideas of leadership. Each founding
emperor had a different claim to leadership. The Ottomans of Anatolia relied on their military
success, especially the unlikely victory against the Byzantines. The Safavids of Iranrelied on
religion to legitimate their rule. Specifically, their eclectic mixture of Sufism and Shi ism and their
position as Sufi pirs (spiritual masters). The Mughals of South Asia depended upon their standing as
the descendants of the great Timurid dynasty.
All three empires had Turkic origins. Additionally, the ruling classes of all three empires were
literate in Persian. All three empires appreciated Persian language histories and poetry and Sufi
poetry. Despite these similarities, each empire had distinct tribal origins and dialects. Owing to the
cultural importance of Persian in the Islamic world, the Ottoman dialect was a mixture of Turkish
and Persian. The Ottomans were speakers of Oghuz Turkish who descended from Oghuz Khan.
The Safavids were Aq Quyunlu Turks who spoke Azeri Turkish, and the Mughals were speakers of
Changatai Turkish who descended from TimurKhan.

Thalassemia is a blood disorder transferred through...
Thalassemia is a blood disorder transferred through families. It occurs when the body makes less
hemoglobin than needed or an unusual form of hemoglobin. Hemoglobin is the protein in red
blood cells that carry oxygen. The disorder makes an excessive amount of destruction of red blood
cells. This eventually leads to anemia. There are two main types of thalassemia. The first one is
Alpha thalassemia. This occurs when a gene or genes related to the alpha globin protein are
missing or mutated. It happens mostly in Southeast Asia, the Middle East, China, and in those of
African descent. If one gene is missing or damaged: Your red blood cells might be smaller than
normal. You will have no symptoms and you will not need treatment. If two genes... Show more

Thalassemia minor happens when you inherit the defective gene from only one parent. People
with thalassemia minor are carriers of the disease and usually do not have symptoms. Beta
thalassemia is also called Cooley s anemia. The chances of getting it include being of Asian,
Chinese, Mediterranean, or African American ethnicity, or the family s history of the disorder.
The most severe form of alpha thalassemia major causes stillbirth. Stillbirth is the death of an
unborn baby during birth or the later stages of pregnancy. Children born with thalassemia major
are fine and normal at birth, but develop severe anemia during the first year of their life. Other
symptoms can be bone deformities in the face, fatigue, growth failure, shortness of breath, and
yellow skin. People with the minor form of alpha and beta thalassemia have small red blood
cells, but no symptoms. If they have thalassemia and take a physical test they may have a
swollen spleen. A blood sample will be taken and sent to a laboratory. The red blood cells will be
small and abnormally shaped under a microscope. A complete blood count reveals anemia. A test
called hemoglobin electrophoresis shows the presence of an abnormal form of hemoglobin. A test
called mutational analysis can help detect alpha thalassemia that cannot be seen with hemoglobin
electrophoresis. Treatment for thalassemia major often involves regular blood transfusions and

Why The United States Can Make Any Toys With Greater...
The United States can make certain toys with greater productive efficiency than can China. Yet
we import those toys from China. However the main reason why the U.S. has become so
dependent upon China for goods is that production costs are less in China than the U.S. Reduced
production costs are so attractive to companies the benefits of low cost production are passed on
to customers with lower prices on goods the relationships U.S. companies have with China are
important because of the variety of products available from China. Adam Smith born in 1723 was
a Scottish political economist and philosopher famous by his influential book The Wealth of
Nations. Smith proposed in his book that a nation s wealth should be judged not by this metric but
by the total of its production and commerce. Smith wrote in his book that that productive labor
should be made even more productive by deepening the division of labor. Smith describes the
evolution through feudalism into a stage of society requiring new institutions, such as market
determined rather than guild determined wages and free rather than government constrained
enterprise. If a foreign country can SUPPLY us with a commodity cheaper than we ourselves can
make it, better buy it of them with some part of the produce of our own industry, employed in a
way in which we have some advantage. Relationships with China have proved profitable for some
major U.S. corporations. One of the reasons that the U.S. has become so dependent

Made of Corn Essay
We are all made of corn. Take a strand of your hair. A recent study proved that if you are like the
average American consumer today, your hair is 69% made of corn carbon. This is in contrast to
the 5% of corn carbon that is in the hair of Europeans. Americans use more corn in their diet than
anyone else, and the corn content of the American diet is partially responsible for our country s
widespread obesity and the prevalence of diabetes. America s over production of corn has serious
consequences for our health and for our environment.
How is it possible that we are made of corn? Most of the beef, chickens, and even salmon eat corn.
Today, it is rare to find anything not made of corn. We cook our food in corn oil, and we use corn

The problem is, cows are not built to digest corn, and so we are actually poisoning them while we
try to get the most meat that we can for America. Due to the severity of the situation, cows are
pumped with hormones and antibiotics just to keep them alive. In fact, if we didn t kill the cattle
when we do, six months later, the cattle would die anyways.
The mid 70 s was also the beginning of the rise of high fructose corn syrup.
Now, I m not talking about the corn we eat on the cob. There are many types of corn. The surplus
corn needs to be chemically processed in order to be edible. Basically, the average American eats
200 more calories a day than we did in the 1970s, a major factor being corn. This is why the levels
of obesity and diabetes in America have increased dramatically within the past thirty years. So much
so, that statistics show that we are the first generation of Americans who might actually be outlived
by our parents.
Okay, so what can you do? Before calling up an anti animal abuse organization or blaming farmers
for growing corn, remember that corn is an entirely government funded industry, from growing
corn to funding research programs to find new uses for corn. That s right, the government uses our
tax dollars to make us fat. You can write letters to our congressmen in hopes of changing the Farm
Bill, which sets the rules of food and agriculture in the United States and is

Animals In The Trojan War
As we discussed in class, the Iliad s mortals lie between gods and animals in their thoughts and
actions, and often struggle to overcome their baser instincts in the pursuit of god like wisdom and
power. However, the events of the Trojan War paradoxically suggest that in order to attain divine
glory heroes must become increasingly bestial, slowly losing their humanity as the battle drags on.
Homer makes the inhuman ferocity of his heroes obvious, most notably in frequent similes
comparing various fighters to predators. These comparisons are more frequent and violent as the
war escalates. During the peak of Agamemnon s fury in battle, he is compared to a lion [seizing] the
innocent young of the running deer...and [ripping] out... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although the Achaians and the Trojans place high value on honor earned in battle, multiple
characters comment on the futility of war. While in combat, Menelaos angrily declares that the
Trojans will never be satisfied with their accomplishments in war, directly contrasting it with more
humane activities such as song and dance. Even Achilleus admits, There [is] no gratitude given for
fighting incessantly forever against your enemies...A man dies still if he has done nothing, as one
who has done much (9.316 318). However, the heroes recognition of the wasteful, unending nature
of war is ultimately meaningless, as emotion drives them to fight even when logic would tell them
to turn back. This is what separates the humans from the gods gods have some control over their
emotions, while humans, like animals, are completely beholden to them. This contrast is clearest in
Book 16, where Zeus ultimately masters his own sadness over his son Sarpedon s impending death
and allows fate to take its course, while Patroklos, in a huge blind fury (16.685), forgets Achilleus s
orders and pursues the Trojans, leading to his demise. Thus, the human heroes lead a fundamentally
tragic existence they, like animals, are increasingly controlled by their instincts and emotions as the

carbs and sugar, with blueberries, crispy rice and wheat flakes type cereal, formulated from

introductory working label of this cereal will be Special K Bursting Blueberry.
The attractiveness of this cereal is whereas most cereals contain high amounts of sugar and carbs;
this cereal does not because of the natural sweetness provided from the blueberries, instantly making
it a healthier choice when selecting breakfast. This new cereal selection should interest a variety of

Cma 76ers Research Paper
17. Philadelphia 76ers USA TODAY Sports The Philadelphia 76ers just completed their second
straight season with fewer than 20 wins, and that was unfortunately the goal. To the confusion
of many NBA fans, this simply means that everything is going to plan in the city of brotherly
love. General manager Sam Hinkie, is sticking to his rebuilding plan of asset collecting, and it is
bound to pay off for Philly at some point. The question is; how long will it take for the 76ers to
finally build a respectable team? The biggest X factor for the Sixers is second year big man Joel
Embiid. Embiid is one of the rare players that has the distinct possibility of being out of the
league or a top 10 player in the NBA five years from now. After missing his entire rookie season
with a foot injury, Embiid will be forced to miss another season after aggravating his foot. It
would be a big boost for the Sixers future if Embiid could come back and avoid being labeled the
next Greg Oden. Despite not having Embiid s services this season, the 76ers will still have two

Okafor is. Okafor has a polished post game for just a one and done player. Not many players can
walk into the NBA as a rookie and average 18 points and 8 rebounds, but Okafor has that
potential. Nerlens Noel made his much anticipated debut for Philly last season after missing the
entire 2013 14 campaign with a torn ACL. Noel averaged 11.6 points and 9.5 rebounds on his
way to All Rookie First Team honors. The most impressive part of Noel s game is his versatility
on the defensive end. Noel has the speed to switch onto perimeter threats and is an outstanding rim
protector. Noel accomplished the rare feat of finishing in the top 10 in both steals and blocks per

Why Are Noxious Weeds Bad
One may ask, How do noxious weeds personally affect me? Despite common belief that they do
not, noxious weeds do in fact affect lives. A noxious weed is a plant that can be harmful to that of
animals or the environment. A problem with noxious weed management is many do not recognize
their beautiful flowering plants as noxious weeds. Some noxious weeds put on a mask of beauty
but inside are seeking simply for destruction and overrule of other plant species. Although, at first it
seems unlikely to affect anyone other than that of ranchers and farmers, in truth noxious weeds
harm multiple individuals in their own homes but particularly on public and private land.
In agriculture, noxious weeds pose a threat to a successful yield in crops and a healthy livestock
crop each year. While some weeds are not as extreme as others, all pose a threat of some sort. Take
Knapweed for example. Varieties of Knapweed tend to inhibit crops and their... Show more content

Noxious weeds affect many things: Farmers, ranchers, consumers, tourists, animals, and
environments. More specifically, noxious weeds affect anything. The weeds can damage a crop
to the point that the farmer is unable to sell any of it. Livestock can be harmed negatively either
through nutritional defects or physical attacks by these weeds. Consumers of products may
increase in demand, but noxious weeds can lower the supply causing economic imbalance. Fans
of state parks and public land are losing the beautiful lands that once existed due to the tyranny
of noxious weeds. By understanding the affect noxious weeds have on one s life, better
management processes will be developed and put to work. Each individual can do their part by
becoming educated in noxious weeds, even if it is a basic knowledge. In final, noxious weeds do
affect lives and it s the role of those on Earth to properly recognize, plan, and eliminate the
damaging weeds as best they

Primary Cause Of The Civil War Essay
The Civil War began from the battle at Fort Sumter, where the Confederacy took Fort Sumter from
the Union. The root of the Civil War is probably one of the most disputed topics in American
history. Some historians argue that slavery was the primary cause of the American Civil War,
whereas others argue that slaverymay have been a reason, but not the primary cause of the Civil
War. They argued that the main reason of the Civil War was State s rights were being jeopardized,
which led to the State s seceding from the Union. Starting off, the Civil War began because the
south wanted slavery mainly because they wanted to have workers without having to pay them.

Which means, that this war which surrounds the issue of slavery will affect the whole continent of
United States. In contrast, the people claim the war was over state rights was because President
Lincoln stated he wanted to abolish slavery in all the United States but the Southern states
claimed Lincoln didn t have the power to do that. They claimed state s rights gave the power to
decide if slavery was legal or not to state governments and not the Federal government. The issue
was not slavery, but who decided whether slavery was acceptable, local institutions or a distant
central government power. The war was indeed about protecting the institution of slavery, but
only as a specific case of a state s right to declare a federal law null and void. Southern states
sought to secede because they believed that the federal government had no authority to tell them
how to run their affairs. The primary reason for the Civil War was indeed because of slavery.
The South wanted to break from the North because the South wanted to allow slavery whereas,
the North wanted to end slavery. There was no controversy on whether the war began over the
fact that the North wanted to end slavery whereas the South didn t. However, people soon began
to declare the Civil War began mainly because of the State s worry of their rights. According to
William Walker, views on the Western

Learning Languages Essay
Effects of learning Languages
Learning another language is not only learning different words for the same things, but learning
another way to think about things. A bilingual person is more than one person. Whenever we are
learning a new language, it means that we have started a new life with a different vision. If we
learn a language, we understand much about culture or life of a country. If we know one
language we are one person, if we know two languages, we are two people. As an instance; if
there is a job vacancy that requires two people knowing two languages and you know two
languages, then you are qualified for that job. Learning a new language seems like we are starting
a new journey toward our future life. I am always passionate about learning a new language, and
when I start learning a new language everything is changed.
Firstly, I was the only one in my family who started learning a new language in early ages. Without
knowing Dari, which in my native language, I had started learning Urdu. When I was living in

The 1960 Presidential Election Kennedy is generally considered to have won the national popular vote by 112,827, a margin of 0.17% (although the unusual nature of the election in Alabama has caused some to question this figure)[2] and though Nixon carried more individual states (26 to 22),[3] Kennedy won a 303 to 219 Electoral College victory. The 1960 presidential election was the closest election since 1916, which can be explained by a number of factors.[4] Kennedy benefited from the economic recession of 1957 58, which hurt the standing of the incumbent Republican Party, and he had the advantage of 17 million more registered Democrats than Republicans.[5] Furthermore, the new votes that Kennedy, the first Roman Catholic president, gained among Catholics almost neutralized ... The poem An Ox Looks at Man, by Carlos Drummond de Andrade, is about an ox judging humans for forgetting a crucial element in life. The poem s language suggests that while the ox is able to remain content with life, humans can never feel satisfied as shown by the ox s description of humans physical characteristics and emotional behaviors. The Ox s assessment of humankind s physical characteristics describes not only humankind s state of mind, but the Ox s as well. • 4. Robert Frost Explication Analysis Poetry Explication Essay The poem Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening was published in Robert Frost s New Hampshire in 1924 (Pritchard). The poem is among the most easily recognizable and familiar works written by Frost. On the surface, this poem is a short encounter at the edge of a snowy forest. Perhaps its outer simplicity is what makes the poem stand out in the minds of readers. The straightforward structure and balanced rhymepattern make it easy to recite and the imagery Frost evokes is both beautiful and engaging. This is an attempt to make the situation more easily relatable to a large pool of readers representing any errand as well as any person. Ciardi goes on to examine the man talked about in the poem. This man represents the village of mankind and thus tells us that the narrator is divided or has chosen to divide himself from society at least for a short horse ride (Ciardi 14). This division is an important theme in the poem, instantly showing us that the reflection is a highly personal experience for the narrator. The horse in the poem, on the other hand, is the narrator s connection to reality. Ciardi goes so far as to call the horse the foil of the protagonist for disagreeing with his actions demonstrated in the line My little horse must think it queer / To stop without a farmhouse near (CITE). This horse has been subject to analysis by other critics as well, Virginia Faulkner explains that the horse represents male sexual potency (Faulkner 560). Though not many critics agree with Faulkner in the respect that the poem is dealing with an amatory adventure, the sexual connotations of the horse still adhere to its connection with the narrator through the symbolism of ... • 7. Uncanny In The Sand-Man By Sigmund Freud Out of Sigmund Freud s many definitions of the word uncanny, I found the definition of the uncanny as something hidden, not known, or withheld from others the most intriguing (223). In The Sand Man, Hoffman purposefully keeps the audience in the dark through his use of the letter format and Nathanael s ignorance and hallucinations in order to retain the readers attention. Upon starting The Sand Man, any reader would notice the letter style narrative, which serves to drive the story onward through the reader s curiosity. By telling the part of the story through the character s correspondence, Hoffman limits the amount of information the audience can receive. Take, for example, the very first letter from Nathanael, it was only meant for Lothair, meaning Nathanael was trying to hide information from the other characters. Nathanael even ends the letter by telling Lothair not to say anything to Nathaniel s mother and that he will write to Clara when he has a somewhat calmer frame of mind. (9). This deliberate action of obscuring the truth is Freud s very definition of uncanny. In addition, even if a character is willing to express his or her account, it will no doubt be influenced by his or her emotions and memories that may or may not be completely accurate. Describing Coppelius as hideous, cat like, and distorted in surprising and suspicious detail, Nathanael seems like a rather unreliable narrator (5). In fact, the multi collinearity problem does not result in biased coefficient estimates, but does increase the standard error of the estimates and thus reduces their reliability. According to (Appendix 2 Correlation), we notice a low correlation between explanatory variables: So there is no multi collinearity issue. • 15. A Cross-Examination Of Themes In Walden, By Henry David... The Journey from Enslavement to Freedom, from Society to Nature: A Cross Examination of Themes in Thoreau s Walden and Slavery in Massachusetts Working Thesis In Walden, Thoreau explains that to him, slavery is not only as simple as the historically common definition of the physical enslavement of a man or woman to another man. Slavery, in the abstract, is both mental and physical, and society represents a seemingly unavoidable, but somewhat overlooked form of slavery put upon us all. Thoreau hypothesizes and experiments with the journey from enslavement of society to freedom. What characterizes enslavement? Is it mental, physical, or both? How do people go about attaining their freedom? Can we ever achieve it completely? The journey from slavery to freedom is a prominent theme in Thoreau s writings. This essay cross examines these themes in the first chapter of Walden ( Economy ) with a discourse delivered by Thoreau at an anti slavery convention, Slavery in Massachusetts , and argues for an interpretation of Thoreau s concept of the journey from enslavement to freedom: All of society represents enslavement, with everyone being slaves in various degrees and forms, such as physical, mental, forced, voluntary, or self inflicted. In other words, it maintains that there exists a limit to any individual s intellectual capability, accessible information, and time regardless of how smart he/she may be (Ibrahim, 2009). Undeniably, quite many decisions are often not entirely thought through since people can only remain rational ones within the constraints of cognitive ability and time. In this particular instance, Hamlet displays his hesitation towards the idea of having revenge. He is unable to make up his mind as he tries to rationalize his purpose. On the other hand, in Gladiator, Maximus is a much more straightforward thinker. He clearly states his purpose of revenge when he meets Commodus for the first time after his wife and son were murdered. He says to Commodus, My name is Maximus Decimus Meridius... The novel includes two sections, The American Way and Meat and Potatoes, that aid him in describing the history and people who have helped shape up the basics of the McWorld. Fast Food Nation jumps into action at the beginning of the novel with a discussion of Carl N. Karcher and the McDonald s brothers. He explores their roles as Gods of the fast food industry. Schlosser then visits Colorado Springs and investigates the life and working conditions of the typical fast food industry employee. He wants to show a personal account of the difficulties that everyday people endure trying to accommodate different aspects of a fast food meal possible to the consumer. By stressing this, Schlosser also shows the need for the sanitation of fast food to be dealt seriously. He directs these ideas towards the less informed of American society. Schlosser wants to reach out to those that wish to become more informed of the fast food aspect of America, and to Americans, fast food has become a normal aspect of life. Even Professer Pothukuchi, of Wayne State University agrees that fast food is destroying us: individuals, communities, work and family life, and indeed, our very connections with the world (Pothukuchi 1). This book is intending the audience to steer away from what seems harmless, because fast food seems innocuous, when in reality is the opposite. Schlosser, in his novel, uses the first person narrative point of view. This aids the reader to see through his eyes all of the events he has seen from across the nation. He displays a large amount of irony and controversial discussion through this point of view, which in the end helps carry his purpose of the novel. In the sub chapter Food Product Design, Schlosser mentions in his view point that, everywhere I looked, I saw famous, widely advertised products sitting on laboratory desks and tables (Schlosser 121). The views on animal hunting and animal cruelty are very different today. Animals such as badgers were hunted for sport; it was considered to be entertaining to track a badger using dogs and capture and torture it until death. Animas such as the Mexican mountain lion were hunted in Mexico for a profit, their fur was a highly sought after fashion item and was sold at very high prices. There is tension as the dogs and men enter on the scene. During the poem the badger varies its reaction as though it is working to a plan, like it is trying to fool the men, runs along and bites , and, The badger grins. The strong rhyming couplets of Badger also give an exited, noisy and chaotic atmosphere. There are ten syllables to each line and fourteen lines in each of the two stanzas. While we can all agree that a reform of the health care system is sorely needed, we must also acknowledge that Obamacare is not the cure all we so desperately require. Rather, President Obama, like a medieval barber, prescribed a health care reform that treated the symptoms of our flawed system rather than the actual disease. The subsidization of health insuranceproviders has proven ineffective at providing affordable coverage for all. Certainly one is likely to hear the various incendiary talking points of both the proponents and opponents. Whether it s the republican candidates blaspheming Obamacare as socialism, or the administration praising the success of health care for all, it is difficult to actually find constructive dialogue. We are purview to many sound bites, but few actual solutions. We have witnessed heated debates, but rarely do we witness intelligent discourse. If beneficial reform is to be crafted and implemented, we must first acknowledge the issues and inconsistencies of the current system and begin to explore alternate methods of providing health care to the American people. The final model within the CVF is internal process. This model is similar to the rational goals model, but its main focus is on consolidation and continuity within the company (Boddy, 1998). Max Weber played a large role in the development of bureaucratic management within this model. Bureaucratic administration allows businesses to thrive in terms of precision, continuity, unity, and the reduction of material and personal costs, according to Weber (Weber, 1978). Though each of these models is crucial to the CVF, the remainder of this essay will focus on comparing and contrasting only the open systems model and internal process model. Internal process and open system models are located diagonally from each other on the CVF diagram. That being said, many differences exist between the two models; however, the basic management goal is similar. These two models will be analyzed based on the framework shown in diagram B. Another explanation for the name Caliban is kalebon, an Arabic word for vile dog , common reference for North African creature in England at that period. Dutch scholar Albert Kluyver, would eliminate the cannibal, as it did not exist in English language with the same meaning as in Shakespeare`s time, instead he believes it to mean black in gypsy language. It is very probable that Shakespeare addressed African slaves, since Prospero himself in the play, observes Caliban as filth , something inhuman. (Vaughan and Vaughan). The relationship between Prospero and Caliban could be Shakespeare`s way of describing the treatment of African slaves by European feudalists. This marvellous literature piece is a testimony of slavery and its roots. Even more, few years after Shakespeare died, the biggest export of African slaves took place and racism was imprinted in people`s subconscious. Other symptoms can be bone deformities in the face, fatigue, growth failure, shortness of breath, and yellow skin. People with the minor form of alpha and beta thalassemia have small red blood cells, but no symptoms. If they have thalassemia and take a physical test they may have a swollen spleen. A blood sample will be taken and sent to a laboratory. The red blood cells will be small and abnormally shaped under a microscope. A complete blood count reveals anemia. • 43. Why The United States Can Make Any Toys With Greater... The United States can make certain toys with greater productive efficiency than can China. Yet we import those toys from China. However the main reason why the U.S. has become so dependent upon China for goods is that production costs are less in China than the U.S. Reduced production costs are so attractive to companies the benefits of low cost production are passed on to customers with lower prices on goods the relationships U.S. companies have with China are important because of the variety of products available from China. Adam Smith born in 1723 was a Scottish political economist and philosopher famous by his influential book The Wealth of Nations. Smith proposed in his book that a nation s wealth should be judged not by this metric but by the total of its production and commerce. Smith wrote in his book that that productive labor should be made even more productive by deepening the division of labor. Smith describes the evolution through feudalism into a stage of society requiring new institutions, such as market determined rather than guild determined wages and free rather than government constrained enterprise. If a foreign country can SUPPLY us with a commodity cheaper than we ourselves can make it, better buy it of them with some part of the produce of our own industry, employed in a way in which we have some advantage. Relationships with China have proved profitable for some major U.S. corporations. One of the reasons that the U.S. has become so dependent ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This is in contrast to the 5% of corn carbon that is in the hair of Europeans. Americans use more corn in their diet than anyone else, and the corn content of the American diet is partially responsible for our country s widespread obesity and the prevalence of diabetes. America s over production of corn has serious consequences for our health and for our environment. How is it possible that we are made of corn? Most of the beef, chickens, and even salmon eat corn. The problem is, cows are not built to digest corn, and so we are actually poisoning them while we try to get the most meat that we can for America. Due to the severity of the situation, cows are pumped with hormones and antibiotics just to keep them alive. In fact, if we didn t kill the cattle when we do, six months later, the cattle would die anyways. The mid 70 s was also the beginning of the rise of high fructose corn syrup. Now, I m not talking about the corn we eat on the cob. There are many types of corn. The surplus corn needs to be chemically processed in order to be edible. Basically, the average American eats 200 more calories a day than we did in the 1970s, a major factor being corn. • 46. Animals In The Trojan War As we discussed in class, the Iliad s mortals lie between gods and animals in their thoughts and actions, and often struggle to overcome their baser instincts in the pursuit of god like wisdom and power. However, the events of the Trojan War paradoxically suggest that in order to attain divine glory heroes must become increasingly bestial, slowly losing their humanity as the battle drags on. Homer makes the inhuman ferocity of his heroes obvious, most notably in frequent similes comparing various fighters to predators. These comparisons are more frequent and violent as the war escalates. During the peak of Agamemnon s fury in battle, he is compared to a lion [seizing] the innocent young of the running deer...and [ripping] out... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although the Achaians and the Trojans place high value on honor earned in battle, multiple characters comment on the futility of war. While in combat, Menelaos angrily declares that the Trojans will never be satisfied with their accomplishments in war, directly contrasting it with more humane activities such as song and dance. Even Achilleus admits, There [is] no gratitude given for fighting incessantly forever against your enemies...A man dies still if he has done nothing, as one who has done much (9.316 318). However, the heroes recognition of the wasteful, unending nature of war is ultimately meaningless, as emotion drives them to fight even when logic would tell them to turn back. This is what separates the humans from the gods gods have some control over their emotions, while humans, like animals, are completely beholden to them. This contrast is clearest in Book 16, where Zeus ultimately masters his own sadness over his son Sarpedon s impending death and allows fate to take its course, while Patroklos, in a huge blind fury (16.685), forgets Achilleus s orders and pursues the Trojans, leading to his demise. Thus, the human heroes lead a fundamentally tragic existence they, like animals, are increasingly controlled by their instincts and emotions as the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A noxious weed is a plant that can be harmful to that of animals or the environment. A problem with noxious weed management is many do not recognize their beautiful flowering plants as noxious weeds. Some noxious weeds put on a mask of beauty but inside are seeking simply for destruction and overrule of other plant species. Although, at first it seems unlikely to affect anyone other than that of ranchers and farmers, in truth noxious weeds harm multiple individuals in their own homes but particularly on public and private land. • 52. Primary Cause Of The Civil War Essay The Civil War began from the battle at Fort Sumter, where the Confederacy took Fort Sumter from the Union. The root of the Civil War is probably one of the most disputed topics in American history. Some historians argue that slavery was the primary cause of the American Civil War, whereas others argue that slaverymay have been a reason, but not the primary cause of the Civil War. They argued that the main reason of the Civil War was State s rights were being jeopardized, which led to the State s seceding from the Union. Starting off, the Civil War began because the south wanted slavery mainly because they wanted to have workers without having to pay them. Which means, that this war which surrounds the issue of slavery will affect the whole continent of United States. In contrast, the people claim the war was over state rights was because President Lincoln stated he wanted to abolish slavery in all the United States but the Southern states claimed Lincoln didn t have the power to do that. They claimed state s rights gave the power to decide if slavery was legal or not to state governments and not the Federal government. The issue was not slavery, but who decided whether slavery was acceptable, local institutions or a distant central government power. The war was indeed about protecting the institution of slavery, but only as a specific case of a state s right to declare a federal law null and void. Southern states sought to secede because they believed that the federal government had no authority to tell them how to run their affairs. The primary reason for the Civil War was indeed because of slavery. The South wanted to break from the North because the South wanted to allow slavery whereas, the North wanted to end slavery. There was no controversy on whether the war began over the fact that the North wanted to end slavery whereas the South didn t.
