This document summarizes a presentation given by Oscar Lazaro at the FInES Cluster Meeting on May 6th, 2013. It discusses the changing ICT world and digital transformation trends affecting industries. Platform-based businesses using any possible device are outperforming other ICT businesses, particularly in the US and Asia. The FI-PPP aims to support digital business innovation through technological foundations and validating generic enablers via pilot implementations. However, the FI-PPP faces challenges in aligning short-term innovation with long-term evolution, supporting customer-driven business generation, and ensuring usability and sustainability to benefit SME innovation.

The changing environment of industrial enterprises is characterized by increased competition, which encourages decision-makers to adopt a consistent approach to innovation and to seek new sources of competitive advantages. We are witnessing a change in the practices of individual industrial enterprises. These require their suppliers or impose to their customers an efficiency, reactivity and an adaptability more and stronger, passing gradually from a subcontracting of capacity to a subcontracting of function.

D204 - PANEL: Enterprise Use Cases for Speech Technologies
451 Research survey data shows that consumers are increasingly adopting connected devices and applications, such as Amazon’s Echo and virtual assistants such as Cortana and Siri. We expect these trends to extend into the enterprise.
This session looks at specific use cases that represent near-term opportunities where speech technologies transform the user experience and redefine how organizations create and deliver value.
Key challenges for adoption of speech-enabled devices and applications in the enterprise are identified.
With the advent of smartphones, the average attention span of individuals has lowered down to 8 seconds. Surprisingly, a billion dollar business can be built by capturing less than a minute of an average user’s daily attention.

B. Elvesæter, A.-J. Berre, H. d. Man, and M.-S. Li, "Networked Enterprise transformation and resource management in future internet enabled Innovation Clouds", paper presentation at IESA 2010, Coventry, United Kingdom, 15 April 2010.
The Internet of Things can be a major driver of digital transformation, enabling new business models based on widespread devices and new data streams. For enterprises, the Internet of Things (IoT) currently represents something of a double-edged sword. On the one hand, there are manifold opportunities to boost the efficiency of products and services, create new revenue streams and reduce operational costs by connecting all manner of devices ('things') to the internet and analyzing the data they generate.
Lessons from Long Tail: Delivering on the Semiconductor Digital Engagement Ma...Infosys
Traditional customer engagement methods and information infrastructures are no longer sufficient. Success in the semiconductor marketplace will belong to those who are prepared for comprehensive digital and social interactions and commerce across the sales and support cycle with traditional and new prospects and customers who are “engineers” by day and “digital consumers” after hours. The industry is realizing the power of Web 2.0 technologies to reach untapped emerging markets of product developers and engineers across the globe, while increasing customer satisfaction, productivity, and profitability.
Building it infrastructure framework that drives innovation and business perf...GlobalStep
Whitepaper on Building IT infrastructure framework that drives innovation and business performance by GlobalStep.
The first trend is the buyer’s increased perception of IT Infrastructure service as a commodity which lowers perceived value and forces cost reductions. The second trend is that of increased complexity which is driven by disruptive technologies like cloud, virtualization and others along with innovative service models such as software-as-a-service and desktop-as-a-service.
The challenges of cost, complexity, and compliance are nearly overwhelming today's CIOs. Instead of devising business aligned IT programs, they are forced to concentrate on maintaining and managing a sloppy infrastructure. To tackle these challenges and to align with business goals, IT must shift its focus to become a business-centric line of business. From the large variety of our clients and our interaction with their IT Infrastructure leaders, we understand that they strongly believe that consistent innovation is their only means of meeting user expectations and rapidly evolving business demands within budgetary constraints. This innovation is not just about using a new technology but also about doing the same thing differently, which involves new way of interacting with the customers and vendors.

6. 0 FI-PPP as an innovation instrument and as a complex ecosystem that
involves many different actors in the ICT value chain has to face
various challenges
0 Challenge 1 - Market dynamics. Develop short-term innovation cycles aligned
with long-term evolution of the Internet technological foundations for business
innovation.
0 Challenge 2 – Customer-driven business generation processes. Support lean
business generation processes which involve intense customer-driven processes
for technology valorisation.
0 Challenge 3 – Future Internet usability. availability of the GEs would not directly
lead to the expected growth and impact unless the challenges of simplicity, value
and usability are addressed.

and exploit FI-PPP offerings, a factor that hinders innovation from SMEs and
mitigates the business value perceived by adopters.
0 Challenge 5 – Friendliness to SME innovation. Enable a holistic framework
focused on SMEs values (simple, beneficial, transparent, quantifiable) and where
SMEs can perform innovation focused activities relying on clear and simple
business models for GE/SE exploitation.
