sight as well as your emotions and critical thinking skill.

on identifying or telling real or make-believe and factual or non-factual
images.
As said earlier, this module hopes you to be a smart learner today as well
as a wise reader in the future. Believe in yourself!

images or pictures that are common to you. How do you feel asyou see
each image?

Then in your own paper, copy the emoji in the box below that
describes your feeling for each image. You can have more than one

I. J.
With the emotion/s that you feel for each image, it will be much
easier to discuss to you the lesson on identifying or telling real
or make-believe and factual or non-factual images, let us use
again in this part the imagesin What’s In.
6
8. For real and make-believe images, here are some of
the pictures:
A. B.
F. E.
7
9. For factual and non-factual images, here are the examples:
C. D.
G. H.
8
10. Now that you have been given examples of different kinds of image or visual
representation of something like those pictures, you are going to learn in this part the
characteristics of real, make-believe, factual and non-factual image.
Let us start with Images A and F:
Images A and F are real. Image A represents a picture of a real
tree, showing its complete parts like roots, trunk, leaves and
branches. Likewise, Image F is real for flying is possible to a man
only if there is a jetpack, a machine that makes him go up in the sky.
Real images then are:
what we exactly see in our surroundings like the those in
nature;
what happen in real-life situations;
what are done in real life; and
not imaginary or fanciful.
In addition, most images from reading materials - school
textbooks like science, social studies, TLE and MAPEH - can help you
tell if an image is real.
On the other hand, Images B and E are make-believe, the opposite of
real. Image B, a tree with a human face, is an impossible one.
Also, Image E is very unlikely to happen in real life; it comes from
a fiction movie.
Therefore, make-believe images are:
imaginary;
fanciful;
fiction;
impossible or unlikely to happen in real life; and
mostly funny.
Fairy tales, myths, fables, science-fiction and fantasy texts or
movies are the common sources of as well as the ones that use make-
believe images.
9
11. Let us now talk about Images C and G.
Images C and G are factual. Image C is the correct representation of
the solar system. It is a fact that according to all science and history
textbooks, the sun is the center and all the planets revolve around the sun.
Similarly, Image G shows the true and correct picture of a human heart.
Based on science textbooks and medical texts the image of the heart there is
the exact representation of the pumping organ of humans and animals.
Thus, factual images:
can be proven true;
come from reliable or credible sources; and
are repeatedly observed in sources like school and college
textbooks, encyclopedia, newspapers, TV news programs, and
credible online sources.
Lastly, here are the characteristics of Images D and H.
Images D and H are non-factual. Image D shows the wrong position
of the members of the solar system and this not the image that all of
the sources use. So, it cannot be proven true. Also, Image H is a picture
of a wrong concept of how a human heart exactly looks like. The heart
there is the fancy image of a heart.
In conclusion, non-factual images are the opposite of the factual ones
which:
can never be proven true;
come from poor or unknown sources; and
are seldom, not always, seen or observed.
For a better understanding, you can read again the discussion here.
