The Ballet Of The Italian Renaissance Essay
Ballet originated in the Italian Renaissance courts of the 15th century and later developed into a
concert dance form in France and Russia. Barre is French for bar, and a barre has been used in ballet
training as a support to help with balance while practicing traditional ballet technique.
Modern barre techniques can be traced back to Lotte Berk who, like Joseph Pilates, fled Germany
because of the Nazis. (Lotte Berk fled to the UK in 1938 because she was Jewish, while Pilates fled to
New York City supposedly because the Nazis wanted to recruit him to train the uber German body).
Lotte Berk developed a fitness regime in the UK that incorporated barre and other dance related and
core strengthening exercises. Her technique was popular in the sixties and seventies in New York city
and other cities around the world. Since then other individuals and companies have developed barre
programs that use a ballet barre and incorporate different fitness concepts. Now there are many fitness
franchises in the US that incorporate the ballet barre.
How is Ellie Herman s Brooklyn Barre different from other Barre Methods?
While many of the current barre methods do exercises that may make your legs and tummy look good,
they ultimately can damage the knee joints and lumbar spine.
Neutral Pelvis v. Flat Back
Like classical Pilates and the Lotte Berk method, many of the current barre franchise regimes place
the pelvis in a poster pelvic tilt instead of a neutral pelvis. Why is this

How Far Do You Agree That Mussolini Rise to Power Was Due...
Mussolini rise to power through the use of violence is widely evident as it is summed up in this
Mussolini himself for my part, I prefer 50 000 votes to 5000 votes . Alternatively, there are also many
other factors that shows Mussolini did not depend on violence but however considered it a useful tool.
This could be from his foreign policy, effort with socialist trade unionist and his effort in gaining
political power legally. As Fascism began as a radical socialist movement, it was only inevitable that
radical measures be taken. Mussolini use of violence mainly relied on the squadristi. This was his
main instrument of violence and it was made up of a group of paramilitaries, the famous black shirts.

His oratory skills along with his influence on the press such as Ill popolo d italia provided a huge
benefit to the fascist party. This is shown in 1921, Mussolini was forced to step down and was to be
replaced with D annunzio however, the 2 factors stated above recognized the huge power and
influence Mussolini had therefore felt they needed him in order to maintain the support base for
fascism. Mussolini also appealed to most aspect of life and had good relations with the church
particularly the pope and the south. The south came to support the fascist as they provided funds in
order to keep the business running. The church was also taken by Mussolini as he introduce a range of
measures i.e formally dropped proposals to tax church property. This is summed up by pope puis xvi
saying:
Mussolini has a proper understanding of what is necessary for this country in order to rid it of the
anarchy to which it has been reduced by an impotent parliamentarianism
This shows that although terror was used in order to gain power, the squadristi actions was justified as
certain groups of people welcome this action and violence was only extensively use during the
beginning of the fascist regime. However, we can later see Mussolini tries to gain power by legal
methods, such as running for office and appealing to the masses which in time, replace the violence
used during the early period of the fascist

Thomas Hobbes No Legal System
In a world where no legal system or no police force exist, one will assume corruption and havoc will
arise and that is exactly what will happen. With no force to prevent humans from committing crimes
or selfish acts, society will crumble. Thus, why we need a legal system and police force around to
enforce punishments to those who commit any wrong doings. There is a need for a higher authority to
keep life from being led astray.
No legal system, no police force and no government is a recipe for disaster. Life needs order and
without order, all direction in life is lost. Hobbes strongly believed and made numerous points about
life under the sovereignty and why it should be obeyed. He states that civilisation cannot co exist
without a legal system,

This is the formula of the Malthusian population model. Graphically we will have:

Figure 2: Gross Population Growth Rate Function (Crafts, N, 2008)
In the model, population at the next time period is determined by the population at the previous time
period, so we can said that this is a difference equation model. In this case, we can use the model to
determine population sizes at any point in the future by applying the equation repeatedly until we
reach the desired point in time.
2.1 Production Function At the time when Malthus wrote his essay, the second factor of production
except land was labor. In the model, he assumes that all individuals own an equal share of the land and
the total amount of the land limited by L. Productivity of each particular person is also fixed. Then

Characteristics Of Magnet Schools
Magnet schools are a fantastic idea when viewed from a large spectrum, however the system remains
slightly skewed. Northern Hartford is 80% Black and Latino. Many of the students that attend magnet
schools represent these ethnicities. However, there are still parents searching for a better academic
option for their children as they attend the inner city public schools that exemplify all of the
characteristics discussed before: poor educators, run down buildings, and merely an inadequate quality
of education. These parents try very hard to enroll their children into the magnet schools, but
unfortunately, 50% of these ethnic children are on a waitlist. Once again, white children are
prioritized.
Officials of these magnet schools go out of their way to seek out white children to attend these magnet
schools in order to meet the quota, and yes, it creates a diverse environment, but these white children,
again, are given additional opportunities. If a white child and his or her parent do not like the magnet
school, they can easily attend their neighborhood school which is usually highly accredited. On the
contrary, for Black and Latino children of Northern Hartford, the magnet school is their one and only
opportunity to escape the inadequate, segregated, public school system, and yet, these children are the
ones on the waitlist.
Overall, magnet schools provide an opportunity for success to children of all ethnicities. It exposes
them to diversity and broadens their views of greater society. Children are likely to perform well due
to the extensive resources provided in these magnet schools such as the vivarium and planetarium in
the magnet school for environmental sciences. Not only is it beneficial for the children, but it
demonstrates to parents who grew up in white, suburban, areas with one or two black children that
diversity is good, that these children are just like any others but with a different skin tone. Integration
aids in ridding the idea of racism and stereotypes. Ultimately, it is the solution for a myriad of societal
issues. In the establishment of magnet schools, the existing diversity exemplifies symbolic
interactionism between the children. Through their interactions, each student is

Violence Against Women And Girls Essay
Violence against women and girls is internationally prevalent. Regardless of class, age, or race,
women everywhere are subject to physical, sexual, psychological, and economic aggression (United
Nations, 2015; 1). According to the World Health organization, 1 in 3 women will experience physical
and/or sexual violence by a partner a non partner. Moreover, studies conducted by the World Health
Organization suggest that exposure to violent behavior can have detrimental impacts that can affect
the physical, mental, and emotional health of a woman or girl; some instances of extreme violence
also lead to death. Due to the epidemic of gender based homicides, the term femicide became
apparent. The term femicide was coined by a woman named Carol Orlock, but was later defined in
2001 by an expert on violence against women and girls, Diana E. H. Russell. Femicide, as Diana
defines it, is the killing of females by males because they are female . Presented by the World Health
Organization, the main types and prevalence of femicide are intimate femicide, murders in the name
of honor , dowry related femicide, and non intimate femicide (Garcia Moreno, Guedes and Knerr,
2012; 1 2). Indeed, the forms of femicide existing vary among all cultures internationally, however, in
this paper; I will primarily focus on non intimate femicide in the region of Ciudad Juarez. Before
delving into the complexities surrounding non intimate femicide in Juarez, I will first examine the

Analysis Of No Firemen At Ground Zero By Michael Burke
In the article No Firemen at Ground Zero This 9/11? , Michael Burke uses multiple techniques to
persuade his audience of the injustice committed against the first responders of 9/11 by excluding
them from the 10 year anniversary at Ground Zero. Burke works towards the goal of having first
responders be included in the memorial at Ground Zero, after Mayor Bloomberg claims there isn t
enough room. Throughout the piece, Burke targets his argument at the influential readers of the Wall
Street Journal in New York to get them to use their influence to put pressure on Bloomberg to get the
first responders to be properly honored. Some of the most important strategy that Burke uses to
persuade his audience is the structure of his piece, and his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As Burke eventually does argue that first responders should be included in the memorial, he makes
sure to point out that denying them the privilege of coming to the memorial would deny the first
responders their due and proper honor .This would not be as impactful if Burke would not have started
his piece by emphasizing the horrors that the first responders voluntarily walked into. By organizing
the piece the way Burke did, it allowed him to shape the reader s viewpoint of first responders before
he even began arguing his point that first responders must be honored at Ground Zero on the ten year
anniversary of 9/11. Another powerful technique that Burke uses to persuade his audience is he uses
quotes. Burke uses quotes from people who were at the scene of 9/11 themselves. Burke quotes a
woman who was descending from the 89th floor who said When I saw the firemen I knew we would
be all right. By using quotes like this, Burke shows the emotional reinsurance that the first responders
gave to the people involved in the attack. By showing the emotional response to the first responders, it
makes the reader clearly see the importance of the presence of first responders on the scene and the
impact they had on the victims. The first responders altered the emotional atmosphere of the scene.
This shows the significant of the first responders at the scene and how discluding them from the
memorial is atrocious . Quotes worked hand

Evolution Of Neon Signs
Neon signs, you can find them just about anywhere such as bars, bowling alleys, and restaurants. You
mainly see them in store windows saying open. But open signs are just the beginning. You can find
them in a variety of vibrant colors and complex shapes.
The atoms of the 18 noble gases including neon and argon, etc, will almost never form stable
molecules by chemically bonding with other atoms. It s simple to build a gas discharge tube such as a
neon light which reveals that inertness is a relative matter. To create a neon sign, you need to provide a
high enough electric voltage to electrodes at the ends of a glass tube containing the noble gas. The
light then begins to glow. For most neon signs, it takes at least 3000 volts.Argon

Hamlet s Soliloquy in Branagh s Adaptation
In contrast to previous film adaptations of Shakespeare that have appeared mostly as filmed stage
productions, Kenneth Branagh approaches his Shakespeare films in a style more reminiscent of big
budget Hollywood movies (Crowl 26). For his 1996 Hamlet adaptation, Branagh chose a very
different style from the predominantly dark and moody medieval settings of previous stage and film
productions. Crowl describes the film as a bright, bold mirror in stunning contrast to Olivier s dark
impressionist maze. (28). Moving the time period forward to the Victorian era, Branagh s Elsinore

Watergate Affair The system of checks and balances did not work well during the Watergate affair.
The president was not sent to prison and Gerald Ford became the president when he shouldn t have
but the part that went well was when Nixon got caught and resigned. The president got away with the
crime when others who were involved did not. To begin with, the system of checks and balances did
not work well during the Watergate affair because the president was not sent to prison after trying to
spy on the democratic party to find misleading information against them to win the reelection. This
wasn t the first time that his workers attempted to do this. On May, 11,1972 Nixon s worker broke into
the offices at Watergate, took photos of hidden documents and placed wiretaps on phones. They got

be president so that he can prevent him from going to prison. Document 5 indicates that Mr.Ford
should not have been the president because Nixon placed him there and the next president after Nixon
should be elected. This means the checks and balances failed because Ford became the president
without any election and freed Nixon from his crime. The audience in document 5 is the citizens of
United States. On the other hand, document 3 contradicts document 5 because the author demonstrates
that it s good that Ford became the president or else there would have been a violent revolution but the
author is ignoring that Ford was the one who gave a petition to Nixon. The purpose of document 3 is
to say that it s good that America has a vice president and that no other country has it and when the

As discussed above, besides the benefits that e tailers can reap from activity based costing, this system
also brings drawbacks. Those drawbacks cause challenges for e tail corporations in establishing the

basic steps to implement activity based costing. These steps are (1) Define activities, activity cost

maintaining the affiliate relationship to facilitate the integration of information about what is

merchandise inventory, each inventory item must be scanned, described, classified and linked to

Descartes Arguments For The Mind Body Problem
The mind body problem can be understood in the following way, there is something it is like to be and
this being is by its nature subjective and an organism has conscious metal states only if there is
something it is like to be that organism. This indeed seems to be incredibly perplexing to explain in
terms of science because science the way it is practiced currently only explains phenomena
objectively, either it tries to reduce and explain the subjective in terms of objective processes or only
makes co relation of the subjective processes to the objective processes but if it only makes co relation
then it is not able to explain the subjective itself. For example take the color red, no account of any

This idea was first pointed to as far back as Thomas Hobbes and Pierre Gassendi, they both made
claims which now would be understood as mind/brain identity theory (R 39). However it wasn t till
the mid nineteen hundreds this claim was systematically fleshed out by a group of Australian
philosophers which included J.J.C Smart. Smart gives the following analogy to make the argument
clear, mental states are identical to brain states in the same way water in identical to H2O or lightning
is identical to atmospheric electrical discharge. To further clarify the argument we will explain the
important distinction between token and types. Imagine that there are four German Shepard s playing
in the park, in this case we have four tokens of the type German Shepard. The tokens are the
individual dogs and the type is the kind or class they belong to. The German Shepherds also belong to
many other types for example, mammals, animals, material, object, etc. Now that we have the
distinction between tokens and types clear we can further proceed and explain token identity and type
identity. Take for example Superman and Clark Kent are the same person so if were to be invited to a
party by Clerk Kent you are simultaneously invited to the party by Superman. Thus Clerk Kent and
Superman being the same person are token identical.

Influence of Early Life and War on Kurt Vonnegut Jr. to Encourage a Generation Against War Kurt
Vonnegut Jr. is one of the most well known World War II authors. His humble beginnings and early
life misfortunes shaped not only his writings, but also his view of the world. His imprisonment in
Dresden in World War II, however, formed his opinions about war at an early age and later inspired
many of his works and style of writing. After the returning from World War II, Vonnegut voiced his
sentiments through his writing that war was wasteful and uncivilized. Vonnegut developed a unique

When British and American forces raided the city with firebombs, Vonnegut and his fellow captives
were saved due to their underground imprisonment. The bombing killed more than 135,000 people,
most of whom were innocent civilians, more than the deaths of Hiroshima and Nagasaki combined.
After the bombing, Vonnegut was given the morbid task of carrying the corpses from Air Raid
shelters, including women, children, and the elderly; dead from concussions, fire, or suffocation. In a
letter to his father, Vonnegut described his job and the reaction of the locals, Civilians cursed us and
threw rocks as we carried bodies to huge pyres in the city, (Boomhower). His distressing internment in
Dresden not only furthered his anti war sentiments, but also established a reoccurring theme in his
books: the irrationality of government and the senselessness of war. Vonnegut saw the bombing of
Dresden and the slaughter of innocents as wasteful and meaningless. He could not comprehend the
purpose of destroying a beautiful and fully functional civilization (Wiswell 5). The annihilation of the
city and lives of the innocent affirmed his views of war as a waste, and even lead to his feeling that,
civilization ended in World War I (Vitale). This view indicated Vonnegut believed World War II was a
meaningless act committed by the uncivilized. Vonnegut exercised a minimal and comical style of
writing to communicate his views against war. His experience in high school and

The Radiation And Its Health Effects
After reviewing the Radiation and Its Health Effects section, review the health effects and expected
life lost graph. How many days or years does an average person lose due to radiation exposure versus
cigarette smoking? Were you surprised by the number of days or years lost to radiation versus
cigarette smoking? Why or why not? From the table, the life expectancy lost annually due to a typical
background radiation of 360 millirems is 18 days compared to 6 days for smoking a pack of cigarette
a day. I would have to say, the numbers are not surprising to me at all. I believe radiations from
nuclear materials are very potent facilitators of carcinogenesis and DNA damages in humans. Hence,
it is not surprising that radiation shortens the life expectancy humans than cigarette smoking.
However, the compounded effect of both annual background radiation from natural sources and
cigarettes, in addition to the carcinogenic effect of smoking would give a person that smokes a life
expectancy loss of over 24 days per year ( Radiation and its health, 2014). Summarize the section

the animator draws Daffy with a guitar, we then expect to hear the guitar playing. But at first, no

we hear a variation of distant sounds that start again, whenever he plays a chord. At first, with a

ground in frustration. To make matters worse, the animator goes on to take away Daffy s voice when
he comes back on screen after clearing away the guitar. His voice, now replaced with animal sounds
that Daffy gets embarrassed and distraught over. It is fantastic to see artistic variation between form,

Upholding Restraint of Trade (ROT) Clauses
The control on restraint of trade (ROT) clauses is designed to protect employees from vindictive
employers, and courts tend to keep that in mind when hearing disputes. The question of upholding the
ROT clauses in favour of the employee or employer by the courts would largely depend on the facts
presented in the each case and the determination of the reasonability of ROT that would be covered in
this paper. The extent to which restraint of trade clauses are legally allowed varies per jurisdiction.
Some jurisdictions, such as the state of California in the US, invalidate non compete clauses for all but
equity stakeholders in businesses. For the purpose of this comparative study, we will be using
Singapore and California to illustrate the differences in the applicability of ROT and the different
outcomes that would arise out of a case study, applying the different labour law on ROT restrictions in
these two countries. 2. Applicability of ROT Singapore The law regarding restraint of trade clauses in
Singapore has been originated from the case law where it helps in providing guidance on the
effectiveness of such clauses. Non compete clauses during the period of the employment and beyond,
the preservation of confidentiality clauses as well as non solicitation clauses are types of express
restraint of trade clauses that are commonly found in employment contracts in Singapore. However,
the existence of such clauses do not automatically imply that the courts in Singapore will

God Created Light, And The Nature Of Sovereignty And Control
God created light, and it was good. God created day and night, and it was good. God created the Earth
and the oceans, and they were good. Then God said, Let us make humankind in our image, according
to our likeness; and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over all the wild animals of
the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps upon the earth (Genesis 1:26). Everything that
God created was good, but some of his creations were agents of evil and others were victims. God
gave humans dominion over the plants and the animals, and that was created to be good. But, this
dominion is misunderstood as it is read in a literal sense, and not within context of the time that the
bible was written. Humans are not given dominion in the sense of sovereignty and control, but rather
humans are to respect plants and animals, they are to till it and keep it (Genesis 2:15). Pope Francis in
his encyclical Laudato Si says that tilling refers to cultivating, ploughing or working, while keeping
means caring, protecting, overseeing and preserving. This implies a relationship of mutual
responsibility between human beings and nature. Each community can take from the bounty of the
earth whatever it needs for subsistence, but it also has the duty to protect the earth and to ensure its
fruitfulness for coming generations (¶67).
God placed Adam in his garden to till and keep it for him. Humans are to do the same with the Earth.

Rhetorical Devices In Julius Caesar s Speech
In Shakespeare s play of Julius Caesar, Rhetoric is the art of convincing and persuading people by
language through public speaking which is used in Julius Caesar s speeches. These devices are used in
Brutus and Antony statements throughout the play. Brutus is a conspirator who kills Caesar since he
fears that he will have too much power over Rome and its people. In comparison, Marc Antony is the
closest friend and most trusted to Caesar, who persuades the people of Rome against Conspirators for
killing Caesar. (Thesis statement) Brutus appeals to logic when he explains his actions in Caesar
funeral, where as Antony appeals to emotions, playing with the audience feelings to seek justice upon
the conspirators. Brutus gives a speech to the people of Rome to explain his reasoning in killing
Caesar by using logic. He claims that he killed Caesar because he loves Rome and fears for well being
of the people since Caesar was an ambitious man. Brutus expresses feelings by saying Had you rather
have Caesar were living, and die all slaves/ than that Caesar were dead to live all free men? (III.I.175).
Brutus uses rhetorical questions to make a point to the audience of saying that Rome is better without
Caesar because Caesar if he was alive they would all be slaves since Caesar would have ultimate
power and control. Brutus showing facts to the people of Rome, Brutus s argument becomes
influential to win over the audience. Throughout his Aboelfoul|2 speech, he calls Caesar ambitious

Investigating The Spatial Difference Between The East...
AIM:
The investigate the spatial difference between the east coast and west cost of New Zealand.
Comparing Muriwai Beach with Eastern Beach
HYPOTHESIS:
A west coast beach is a destructive environment compared to an eastern coast environment which is
constructive.
Introduction:
Muriwai Beach is a coastal community on the west coast of the Auckland region, in the north island of
New Zealand. Muriwai is approximately 17ilometer m west of kumeu and 42 kilometre northwest of
Auckland. Muriwai draws lots of surfers and fisherman.
Eastern beach is a suburb of Auckland New Zealand. It is located on the eastern city of the city centre.
Its most common attraction is a popular palm fringed beach, in summer, the temperature attracted
thousands of people around Auckland.
In this internal I would like to investigate whether there is a spatial difference between Eastern Beach
and Muriwa, and find out what caused the two beaches to be different. To achieve this I will use
different equipment s to help collect the data I need
Methodology:
Equipment
Stop watch
Clinometer
Ranging poles (*2)
Tape measure
Float( tennis ball or apple)
Alba wind watch
Wind o We used an Alba wind watch to record the wind speed and the direction at both the base and
the top of the dunes to see if there is any variation. We used a compass to record the direction of the
wind.
Long Shore Drift o The stopwatch is used to measure whether long shore drift occurs at eastern beach,

Contribution Of The Montessori Method
Maria Montessori once stated, The greatest sign of success for a teacher is to be able to say, The
children are now working as if I did not exist (Chattin McNichols, 1992). The end goal of a
Montessori classroom is to create independent and curious learners ready to take on any challenge
thrown their way. The Montessori Method differs from traditional school settings because learning is
child centered, meaning children create their own knowledge from experiences within a prepared
environment.
Who were the leaders?
Maria Montessori, the first female physician in Italy, brought about revolutionary ideas in regards to
Early Childhood Education because of how she understood how complex and advanced young minds
were. Dr. Montessori had two main strands of ideas that overall led to her development in the
Montessori Method. This includes the writings of the Swiss educators, Jean Jacques Rousseau and
Johann Pestalozzi, who wrote about the need of hands on experiences and the Scottish businessman,
Robert Owen, who insisted that the social environment contributed to children s knowledge (Bloom,
2004). Shortly after graduation, Dr. Montessori was placed into a psychiatric clinic where she would
visit with people living inside of an insane asylum. Inside of this asylum she observed children living
alongside their parents. The children were considered to be feebleminded because they played with
bread crumbs found on the floor. However, Montessori came to the conclusion of, these

Physics Of Pitching Research
Physics is the study of matter, energy, and the interaction between them. Physics is involved in so
many things, from sports to spacecraft to instruments. One of the sports physics is involved in is
softball. Newton s first law states when an object is in motion it stays in motion until acted upon by an
outside force. This is the key element in softball. When the pitcher pitches the ball it travels on the
path until the batter hits the ball. The softball travels through the air due to the seams (Bauer Westfall,
Motion of a Softball, 2010). The seams cause high and low pressure fronts while the grip determines
how the ball will rotate. Gravity, wind, air drag, velocity, spin, and Magnus are all forces acting upon
the softball when it is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As the pitcher pitches the softball the ball continues on the path until the batter hit the ball, thus
changing the direction and speed (Bauer Westfall, 2010). The key to getting a good hit is hitting the
ball on the sweet spot of the bat. The sweet spot is where there is the minimal vibration from the
contact with the ball. This maximizing the energy transferred and the distance the ball will travel. The
sweet spot is located about 17 centimeters from the end of the barrel (Bauer Westfall, 2010). The
batter will be able to tell when the ball has hit the sweet spot on the bat because the batters hands will
not sting. To analysis the physics of hitting a softball a person can use an equation and a free body
force diagram (see Appendix A for free body force diagram). A uniform slender rod, pivoted at the
end, represents the bat. FPx is the x factor of the force exerted on the slender rod by the fixed pivot P.
P represents the hands of the batter holding the bat and P is expected to be a frictionless pivot. FPy is
the y factor of the force applied on the slender rod by the fixed pivot P. G is the center of mass of the
slender rod. F is the force utilized on the bat by the ball when it strikes. L is the length of the slender
rod. lF is the distance from the point P to the contact point F. lG is the distance from the point P to the
center of mass G. W is the angular velocity of the bat just before the ball is

Explanations Of Dreaming Research Paper
Dreams, something that most of us see in our daily basis. It is defined as a series of images, ideas,
emotions, and sensations occurring involuntarily in the mind during certain stages of sleep. But what
is the real meaning of a dream ? There are three main explanations of dreaming: unconscious wish
fulfillment theory, dreams for survival theory, and activation synthesis theory.
In 1990 Sigmund Freud proposed the unconscious wish fulfillment theory he viewed dream as
unconscious wishes that dreamers wish to see fulfilled. Dreams are subjected to each person but there
are common elements often occurring in everyone s dream. Nightmares unusually frightening dreams,
occur fairly often. However, Freud developed two content of dreams manifest and latent. Manifest,
visible to the mind impersonates the latent content, the hidden meaning of a dream. Because the
underlying wishes are threatening to the dreamer, they are hidden in the dream s storyline. However
many rejected Freud s prospect because they believe that the direct, overt action of a dream is the
focal point of its meaning.
The dreams for survival theory is an idea that dreams help us to keep information that is critical to
surviving in our everyday life. dreaming provided a mechanism that permitted the processing of
information 24 hours a day. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Allan Hobson proposed neuroscience perspective(all the sciences) of the dream, the activation
synthesis theory explains that dreams are a result of the electrical energy that the brain produces
during REM sleep, possibly as a result of changes in the production of particular neurotransmitters.
The electrical energy randomly triggers the memories stored in the brain because the brain tries to
make sense of neutral activity that happens during sleep. The brain tries to put the event that occurred

William Woods University Essay
I have finally arrived. My palms are clammy and nervousness is coursing through my veins. Never
have I ever been away from home, but here I am, at William Woods University, one hundred miles
from comfort, for a week long camp hosted by MASC (Missouri Association of Student Councils).
After driving into the campus, a ginormous white dome sits on the right, with a crowd of people in
front of it. Driving closer to the massive igloo, I notice six strange teenagers with wacky hats on
dancing to the usual Party in the U.S.A and banging on windows when cars drove up to them. Of
course, driving up to them, they began hitting our windows, as if I was an A list celeb. After passing
by them, my nervousness transitions to excitement; them and the ... Show more content on

the side and up to the stage, where tables are set up giving the campers information. Once again, I
gradually make my way to the stage, as if I was a turtle. Finally, I reach the stage; I walk over to the
last table (because of my last name) and receive papers on my itinerary, my dorm room, my council I
will be with, and a massive book filled with ideas to bring back home. Leaving the auditorium, I am
directed down a hallway, where there are more people crowding the room. Squeezing through the
labyrinth, I arrive at another table, and was given a yellow lanyard and a name tag. I sat down at a
long table, where I designed my name tag. After many dots and swirls, I finished my name tag and
walk out of the dome to my family waiting in the car. I hopped back in, and we drove down the road
to Brockman Hall, where I will be staying for the week. Once we grabbed all of my bags, we walk
into the residence, where there is a man who gives me my key to my dorm. Climbing up four flights of
stairs, I am physically exhausted as if I just ran a marathon. My frail body gives its last effort to reach
my door; I swing open the door, and fall onto my bed. I rise up, finally done with my over
exaggeration of being in pain, and I talk to my roommate, Caleb. He is socially awkward and will not

A Few Good Men is a 1992 American drama film directed by Rob Reiner and starring Tom Cruise,
Jack Nicholson, and Demi Moore. It was adapted for the screen by Aaron Sorkin from his play of the
same name. A courtroom drama, the film revolves around the court martial of two U.S.
Marinescharged with the murder of a fellow Marine and the tribulations of their lawyer as he prepares
a case to defend his clients.
Lieutenant Junior Grade Daniel Danny Kaffee (Tom Cruise) is an inexperienced U.S. Navy Judge

In the course of the trial, it is established that code reds are standard in Guantanamo Bay as a means of
enforcing discipline and getting sloppy Marines to follow procedure. Kaffee especially goes after
Kendrick, particularly over the fact that he denied Dawson a promotion after the latter helped out a
fellow Marine who was under what could be seen as a code red.
Lieutenant Colonel Markinson has gone absent without leave since the incident, but he resurfaces in
Kaffee s car during the trial, revealing that Jessep never intended to transfer Santiago off the base as
previously claimed but created the transfer orders as part of a cover up long after Santiago s death.
Kaffee is unable to find evidence corroborating these claims and announces his intention to have
Markinson testify. Rather than publicly dishonor himself and the Marine Corps, Markinson sends a
letter to Santiago s parents, blaming his own weakness for the loss of their son, outfits himself in full
Dress Blue A uniform and commits suicide by shooting himself in the mouth with his service pistol.
Without Markinson s crucial testimony, Kaffee believes that the case is lost and returns home after a
drunken stupor, having come to regret that he fought the case instead of considering the plea bargain.
Galloway, however, convinces Kaffee to take the great risk of calling Colonel Jessep as a

Total Fitness Resource. It is important that all levels of the company are aware of the objectives and
strategies that are being used to meet those objectives. While Bally s has been doing well at this, they
should never get complacent and always be attentive to what is going on with all of their staff and all
of their members. Effective training and constant evaluation of staff members will insure top notch
customer service.
In short, Bally Total Fitness has been faring well in the fitness industry. First quarter results of 2004
have shown that net revenue has increased from the previous year s first quarter but by only 2%. By
more aggressive marketing this number can increase more by the next year. Both a market penetration
strategy and a market expansion strategy should be utilized to further this objective. These strategies
will ensure that current and potential consumers will be aware of the product Bally Total Fitness has to
offer. The current campaign says it best, Every Body Needs Something and Bally Total Fitness has

How Does Diabetes Mellitus Affect The Individual s...
Metabolism is a sequence of biochemical reactions that take place in every single cell and organ to
maintain the organism growth, reproduction, damage repair, and adaptation to the surrounding
environment. These reactions involve catabolism and anabolism using the major sources of energy:
proteins, lipids, and carbohydrates. Furthermore, any disruption in the regulation of the metabolic
processes affects the individual s morbidity and mortality [1]. Accordingly, in this chapter, we are
going to discuss diabetes mellitus, which is one of the main metabolic disorders.
1.1.1 Pancreatic regulation of Blood Glucose
The regulation of the cornerstone of the whole body energy, glucose, in blood stream by the pancreas,
specifically the islets of Langerhans, is very critical through the secretion of insulin and glucagon.
Insulin, which is secreted from beta cells of the islets of Langerhans in response to high blood glucose
levels, has an anabolic effect via its stimulation of glucose uptake in peripheral, skeletal muscle, as
well as central, brain, tissues to be stored in the form of glycogen and fat [2]. On the other hand, low
glucose levels enhance pancreatic alpha cells secretion of Glucagon that plays the catabolic role
through stimulation of stored glycogen breakdown and formation of glucose from non carbohydrate
sources via glycogenolysis and hepatic gluconeogenesis, respectively [2]. This mechanism is well
controlled through the opposite secretion of these hormones in response

Wobbler Syndrome Summary
Critique of Scientific Articled The article I reviewed discussed a study of the body shape and
alignment in a breed of dogs called Great Danes. Some of the dogs had a disease called Cervical
Spondylomyelopathy, commonly known as Wobbler Syndrome or CSM, and some of them were
perfectly normal and healthy. The cause of this disease is unknown but many believe that it is a mix of
large breed dogs having a large and heavy head and long neck which can cause irregular forces on the
vertebrae of the neck. The study included 15 dogs with Wobblers and 15 dogs who had no clinical
signs of wobblers. In the beginning stages, wobblers causes dogs to have a funny, wobbly walk in
their back legs and they will seem extra clumsy. This study used MRI scans to determine that there
were no distinct differences in dogs with Wobbler Syndrome verses those who are healthy. This
finding disproved the original hypothesis that it is caused by a large head and long neck. ... Show

Overall, I believe that this study was conducted in a manner which exemplifies the scientific method

How Does Sandburg Use Personification In The Divine Grass
The Divine Grass: Personification, Allusions, and Free in Grass by Carl Sandburg A great Italian poet
named Dante Alighieri once said, Nature is the art of God. Nature has dominated earth since the very
beginning. When all perishes, nature still remains. This is seen in the poem called Grass by Carl
Sandburg which is a free verse poem that emphasizes war and the immortality of nature. Throughout,
the entire poem, the speaker remains unsympathetic towards the deaths caused by humanity because it
is a constant cycle. Sandburg uses personification, allusions, and free verse with an emphasis on the
imperative tense to express nature as a divine being, covering up the casualties of human intervention.
To demonstrate how insignificant humans are when compared to nature, Carl Sandburg used
personification in order to make grass the speaker of the poem. In the poem, Grass appears to be a
force of intelligence and labor. The speaker states, I am grass. I cover all (Sandburg 3). It is important
to note that the poem is in first person because it makes the audience aware that they are in the
perspective of a being other than themselves. Grass does not have its own thoughts, but the poet gave

At the time, World War I was believed to be the war that ends all wars. Ironically, this did not happen
because World War II immediately followed. This shows as time passes, the grass will cover it all,
leaving nothing behind for people to remember. Nature covers the scars of the past with beautiful
landscapes, but there will always be the forgotten bodies beneath. Humans will eventually be

Analysis Of Marjorie Prime
Production Response B: Marjorie Prime
1. The main question Marjorie Prime opens for the audience is, what can technology do for the human
experience? The answer to this question is tricky, but I think it was covered well throughout the play
by focusing on the idea of, what would you say to a person you loved if they were still here? First, the
definition of the human experience is all of the emotions and events someone will experience
throughout their lifetime; examples fitting for this play are grieving and death. The first moment from
Marjorie Prime where I felt the meaning was the first time we see Walter Prime. Walter Prime is clean
cut and smooth in his dark blue suit and oxford shoes. He could pass for human, but his voice is eerily
like that of a male Siri on iPhones. The whole idea of getting a prime for Marjorie was so that when
her memory is totally gone from her mind, it will still be in the mind of the prime, and then he can
feed her back her memories. The prime is in the form of Marjorie s husband, Walter, when he was in
his thirties. Both of these elements of the prime give Marjorie back some companionship other than
her daughter, Tess, and Tess s husband, John. We learn later on in the play that Marjorie lost her son,
Damien, to suicide. The prime is able to help Marjorie s human experience by not relaying the painful
memories of him back to her. He in turn indirectly takes away her grief because other people can add

HIP HOP/RAP
When we think of hip hop do we think of the dance or do we think of the music? More often than not
we think of the music industry when someone says hip hop. however hip hop music was created with
the dance.
Both were created in the 1970 s by the African American and Puerto Rican people in New York. The
music originally incorporated the Rhythms of salsa, Afro conga, bongo drums, jazz and funk and
became more popular outside of the African American community around the 1980 s. Although some

I think the most important thing is to keep an open mind. The great fashion industry has taken over the
hip hop culture and evolved over time. People like Ralph lauren, Calvin Klein, and Tommy Hilfiger
tapped into hip hop culture and gave very little in return. It first consisted of baggy shirts, sagging
pants and jerseys. Then people like Jay Z linked up with brands like louis vuitton to create their own
fashion lines. The clothes got tighter, classically fashionable and much more expensive. Clothing will
always evolve with the dancers and music to fit the style of that era. Hip Hop dancing has multiple
different styles that can be put together or left alone to form a unique dance. There is Break, Popping,
Locking, Krumping, Freestyle and Novelty. Break was the first hip hop dance and is classified as one
of the five pillars of hip hop culture. It was created in the 1970 s and made popular by the dance
crews. Dance crews were sometimes called B Boys as in break boys and B Girls as in break girls. It
was practiced in both studios and on the streets. The dance was created in New York and incorporated
dances from african and latino communities.

My Writing Course Analysis
I grew up in a extremely small town outside of Birmingham, and the high school I went to is not
known for its academia. If I recall right, my high school english classes assigned only 1 2 papers a
year, so writing 4 5 in a semester was a completely new adventure for me. I learned many things in
this course that greatly helped me improve my writing. My writing overall improved in style, flow,
and basic fundamental writing thought processes, which is all the areas that are hard to learn. I started
to see my style and flow had grown bland and very fact based instead of grabbing the attention of the
readers. Now that I understand where my writing needs improvement, I can start focusing on those
areas and fixing my papers.
One of my weaknesses in my writing is that I tend to have a one track mind . Once I have an idea
about how to word something or organize an essay, I tend to only see it from that perspective, even if
it s not the most optimal way to convey my arguments. This class helped me think outside of the box
and learn to organize things like I would not normally do, this included how I would analyze texts or

Arguably, the decline in religious vocations is not responsible for the decline in Catholic school

tuition funded, and the cost of running the school is borne by the students, any increase in the cost of

I would have been too afraid to do something or say something but I purposefully now choose the path
of bravery. This year it feels like the words Don t be afraid have been like a shield of armor around me
keeping fear at bay.
My attempts at living a life of don t be afraid first played out in my wanting to volunteer. It was as if I
had a calling from deep inside my soul to just do it; just put myself in the thick of where someone else

A year ago I was made aware that people only volunteer where they feel most comfortable; that it is
rare that people will volunteer in places and activities they no nothing about or feel is too much away
from people and a life they are accustomed to. So I thought about that and realized that I didn t want
to be that kind of person so I signed up to be a volunteer in the cancer center of a hospital. Too many

The Steinbeck s Book And The Migrant s Choice Of Words...
Having The Grapes of Wrath and Their Eyes Were Watching God on my library shelf occurred
because the two novels are required summer reading for my junior year language arts class. I doubt I
ever would have read Hurston s book, but Steinbeck s book is known to me. So, I took advantage of
this opportunity, to become involved with Tom Joad (and his family) and Janie Crawford (and her
grandmother and three husbands). From my reading, I saw connections with the issues of power and
self fulfillment, survival, family life and relationship, and community connections. Both books take
place in the 1930 s; one in rural Florida and the other from Oklahoma to California. The writing style
in the books relies on conversation indicative to the identity of the characters and the setting. The
initial problem I had is reading the southern dialect spoken by the characters in Hurston s book and the
migrant s choice of words and speech patterns in Steinbeck s book. Eventually, I succumbed to it and
became engaged with the character s determination and the impact of events on their lives as the
stories evolved.
Power is important in both books. For the Joads and the migrants it is confronting and dealing with the
landowners. The idea of power results in a bond between the Joads and the Wilsons, and later
incorporates the other migrant families. I see this as an example of self preservation. On the other
hand, for Janie, power of others prevents her from achieving independence and self

How To Get Rid Of Cars In Cities Essay
AGREE Cities are known for being packed with cars and people, but Taras Grescoe argues in her New
York Times article that cities should be made car free. Cars are obviously one of the most popular
choices for going from one place to another, but more recently cars have also become a popular
weapon in terrorist attacks. Cars are easily accessible, which makes them an unsuspecting, instrument
of mass murder, This was recently demonstrated in Charlottesville, VA, where a 20 year old man has
been accused of ramming his Dodge Challenger into a crowd of people during protests, killing one
person and injuring 19 more. The most obvious solution to this problem would be to ban cars in cities
all together. There are many other ways to get from one ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Taras Grescoe in her New York Times article, car attacks have become an increasingly
common mode of terrorism. Although this might be true, that does not mean that cities should get rid
of cars altogether. Even though cars might be turning into a weapon, they still stand to be a popular
and efficient mode of transportation. Out of the thousands of cars that go through big cities everyday,
In the last three years, at least 14 vehicle ramming attacks, have happened in Western cities.
Thousands of cars safely go through cities, but only about five car attacks happen per year. Banning
cars in might stop these attacks, but it might cause other problems with thousands of people relying on
their cars to get them from one place to another. Banning cars might also help the environment, but an
increasing amount of cars are already becoming more environmentally friendly. In more recent years,
there has been a large increase in the amount of electric and fuel efficient cars, which is helping to
prevent dangerous levels of pollution. No matter what the reason is, banning cars in cities is not going
to do anything besides cause more

Reflection Paper On Volunteering
Reflection Paper
I volunteered at the United Boys and Girls of Saint Barbara County (UBGSB). This is a non profit
youth development agency that deals with children ranging as from five to eighteen years of age in the
county of Saint Barbara County. The organization s mission aims to encourage the young population
to be productive in their endeavors as well as being responsible for everything they are doing. Areas of
concerns are focusing on the academic performance, role models, and adopting healthy behaviors in
the population. I choose this organization because being a psychology student, it will enable me to
work with children and therefore improve my knowledge in psychology and how to deal with
children.

I also noticed that every child in the program was treated in a unique way. According to Raskin,
(1996), it s stated that each person has a unique problem and should be treated in a unique manner.
Each person will be able to define their problem and it s the responsibility of the helper to come up
with a unique way to address the problem (Raskin, 1996). In the organization, children had issues
ranging from poor grades at school, lack of taking part in physical activities and irresponsible
behavior in general. It s, therefore, the responsibility of the organization to offer assistance at an
individual level.
I also learned that when dealing with children it s important to empathize due to the problems and
issues they face so as to be able to help them appropriately. According to Karen 2011, empathy is very
important when it comes to the development of the therapeutic

African American Oppression Between 1865 And 1905
Oppression is a common theme in history. Whether it is based on race or gender the oppressed are
inevitably strengthened by the oppression through commitment and perseverance. African Americans
were one of the most significant examples of oppression in American history. The emancipation of
slavery in 1865 signified the slow fight for freedom and equality for African Americans. Between
1865 and 1905 they suffered extreme oppression, but remained united in their fight to gain
independence.
In 1865 all slaves were emancipated which declared them free, but racism was far from over. In the
South, freed African Americans continued to be killed as an act of racial violence. Between the period
of 1865 1905 African Americans fought to defeat their oppression. By the year 1905, freedmen were
still fighting for the same rights they were fighting for in 1865. African Americans were oppressed in
many regards, a great example of this is the black codes. These codes were written into Louisiana law
which prohibited blacks from passing within the limits of said parish without a special permit, renting
or buying a house within said parish, working without a white person supervising them, ... Show more

In an interview for Congress Joint Selection Committee, Lucy McMillan, an African American who
lived in South Carolina during this oppression said, They came in and burned my house down, they
went there and knocked down and beat my house a right smart while. She later said All the Ku Klux
Klan had against me was that I was bragging and boasting that I wanted the land. African Americans
could have accepted they would never have equal rights, but they remained steadfast in their pursuit of
equality. As time passed, their efforts gained momentum and strength. In 1905, schools were built for
African Americans. This was paramount for the culture because it signified imminent changes in the
fight for

Eliza Haywood Fantomina
Literature Response to Fantomina by (Eliza Haywood) The Age of Enlightenment is a very vital part
in human history. This time period was one of a new found understanding. Many women accepted
society for what it was and depended on men for guidance. Some would say a person who isn t
enlightened has characteristics of a child. Most men had the freedom to do as they pleased. Eliza
Haywood shows many hardships faced by women during this time period. In the story Fantomina she
battles the stereotype of women being dependent, A young lady of distinguished birth, beauty, wit, and
spirit (Haywood, 569). She showed that not only men could become Enlightened, women could also
be Enlightened. This is a true display of female authority. In every

Mastitis Research Paper
Mastitis is the inflammation of the mammary gland (Damron 685). It looks nothing like it should.
Mastitis makes the milk very stringy and clumpy. It can be caused by many different things. Most
common bacteria that causes mastitis are: Coagulase negative staphylococci bacteria and Mycoplasma
capricolum. Other things that can cause mastitis are yeast infections and frequent use of penicillin.
Mastitis can be fatal if it is not treated. Your does (nanny goats) will usually show signs of mastitis by
one or both of the teats being swollen and warm to the touch. Its very painful for them. Sometimes
mastitis shows no signs until it is too late to treat. Treatment for mastitis can be very costly! First you

Menace 2 Society Analysis
20th century South Central Los Angeles in Menace II Society and An ethnographic investigation and
comparison of the film Menace II Society and the social and economic issues in South Central Los
Angeles in the 20th century Introduction Before the picture even starts rolling in the film, a question
which represents the economic issues of a place where poverty pervades a third of the population is
posed and 1 muttered by a raspy voiced man asking Can y all brothers spare some change? In the 2
following three minutes, the film portrays a disturbing, violent scene, sure to shock the average
audience member, sending a powerful message of the deeply rooted, menacing social issues which
have come to be ingrained into everyday life in this society. Caine, the narrator of his own story, puts
it simply as, Went into the store just to get a beer. Came out an accessory to murder and armed
robbery. It s funny like that in the hood sometimes. But you never knew what was gonna happen or
when. 3 Menace II Society is a film directed by the Hughes brothers and set in Watts, Los Angeles,
mainly taking place in 1993 featuring scenes set earlier in the century. The film can be summarized as
the story of a short lived, but by no means out of the ordinary, life of an eighteen year old black
teenager named Caine. Growing up in this society influences him to lead a life of criminal activity
especially in the summer after graduating high school. Although soon after a love interest enters his
life, he decides to turn his life around by overcoming his struggles and influences to change his
character and leave Watts for Atlanta only to be killed just as he was about to embark on his journey
out. The Hughes brothers set out to paint parallels in the film to 4 everyday life in Watts to reveal to
the rest of America the bleak reality of these conglomerate, segregated, low income communities.
Watts is a city in Los Angeles pertaining to the South 1 Matsunaga, Michael, Concentrated Poverty

  • 2. The Ballet Of The Italian Renaissance Essay Ballet originated in the Italian Renaissance courts of the 15th century and later developed into a concert dance form in France and Russia. Barre is French for bar, and a barre has been used in ballet training as a support to help with balance while practicing traditional ballet technique. Modern barre techniques can be traced back to Lotte Berk who, like Joseph Pilates, fled Germany because of the Nazis. (Lotte Berk fled to the UK in 1938 because she was Jewish, while Pilates fled to New York City supposedly because the Nazis wanted to recruit him to train the uber German body). Lotte Berk developed a fitness regime in the UK that incorporated barre and other dance related and core strengthening exercises. Her technique was popular in the sixties and seventies in New York city and other cities around the world. Since then other individuals and companies have developed barre programs that use a ballet barre and incorporate different fitness concepts. Now there are many fitness franchises in the US that incorporate the ballet barre. How is Ellie Herman s Brooklyn Barre different from other Barre Methods? While many of the current barre methods do exercises that may make your legs and tummy look good, they ultimately can damage the knee joints and lumbar spine. Neutral Pelvis v. Flat Back Like classical Pilates and the Lotte Berk method, many of the current barre franchise regimes place the pelvis in a poster pelvic tilt instead of a neutral pelvis. Why is this ... • 3. How Far Do You Agree That Mussolini Rise to Power Was Due... Mussolini rise to power through the use of violence is widely evident as it is summed up in this Mussolini himself for my part, I prefer 50 000 votes to 5000 votes . Alternatively, there are also many other factors that shows Mussolini did not depend on violence but however considered it a useful tool. This could be from his foreign policy, effort with socialist trade unionist and his effort in gaining political power legally. As Fascism began as a radical socialist movement, it was only inevitable that radical measures be taken. Mussolini use of violence mainly relied on the squadristi. This was his main instrument of violence and it was made up of a group of paramilitaries, the famous black shirts. The extent to which they were use ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His oratory skills along with his influence on the press such as Ill popolo d italia provided a huge benefit to the fascist party. This is shown in 1921, Mussolini was forced to step down and was to be replaced with D annunzio however, the 2 factors stated above recognized the huge power and influence Mussolini had therefore felt they needed him in order to maintain the support base for fascism. Mussolini also appealed to most aspect of life and had good relations with the church particularly the pope and the south. The south came to support the fascist as they provided funds in order to keep the business running. The church was also taken by Mussolini as he introduce a range of measures i.e formally dropped proposals to tax church property. This is summed up by pope puis xvi saying: Mussolini has a proper understanding of what is necessary for this country in order to rid it of the anarchy to which it has been reduced by an impotent parliamentarianism This shows that although terror was used in order to gain power, the squadristi actions was justified as certain groups of people welcome this action and violence was only extensively use during the beginning of the fascist regime. However, we can later see Mussolini tries to gain power by legal methods, such as running for office and appealing to the masses which in time, replace the violence used during the early period of the fascist ... With no force to prevent humans from committing crimes or selfish acts, society will crumble. Thus, why we need a legal system and police force around to enforce punishments to those who commit any wrong doings. There is a need for a higher authority to keep life from being led astray. No legal system, no police force and no government is a recipe for disaster. Life needs order and without order, all direction in life is lost. Graphically we will have: 7 Figure 2: Gross Population Growth Rate Function (Crafts, N, 2008) In the model, population at the next time period is determined by the population at the previous time period, so we can said that this is a difference equation model. In this case, we can use the model to determine population sizes at any point in the future by applying the equation repeatedly until we reach the desired point in time. 2.1 Production Function At the time when Malthus wrote his essay, the second factor of production except land was labor. • 6. Characteristics Of Magnet Schools Magnet schools are a fantastic idea when viewed from a large spectrum, however the system remains slightly skewed. Northern Hartford is 80% Black and Latino. Many of the students that attend magnet schools represent these ethnicities. However, there are still parents searching for a better academic option for their children as they attend the inner city public schools that exemplify all of the characteristics discussed before: poor educators, run down buildings, and merely an inadequate quality of education. These parents try very hard to enroll their children into the magnet schools, but unfortunately, 50% of these ethnic children are on a waitlist. Once again, white children are prioritized. Officials of these magnet schools go out of their way to seek out white children to attend these magnet schools in order to meet the quota, and yes, it creates a diverse environment, but these white children, again, are given additional opportunities. If a white child and his or her parent do not like the magnet school, they can easily attend their neighborhood school which is usually highly accredited. On the contrary, for Black and Latino children of Northern Hartford, the magnet school is their one and only opportunity to escape the inadequate, segregated, public school system, and yet, these children are the ones on the waitlist. Overall, magnet schools provide an opportunity for success to children of all ethnicities. It exposes them to diversity and broadens their views of greater society. Children are likely to perform well due to the extensive resources provided in these magnet schools such as the vivarium and planetarium in the magnet school for environmental sciences. Not only is it beneficial for the children, but it demonstrates to parents who grew up in white, suburban, areas with one or two black children that diversity is good, that these children are just like any others but with a different skin tone. Integration aids in ridding the idea of racism and stereotypes. Ultimately, it is the solution for a myriad of societal issues. In the establishment of magnet schools, the existing diversity exemplifies symbolic interactionism between the children. Through their interactions, each student is ... • 7. Violence Against Women And Girls Essay Violence against women and girls is internationally prevalent. Regardless of class, age, or race, women everywhere are subject to physical, sexual, psychological, and economic aggression (United Nations, 2015; 1). According to the World Health organization, 1 in 3 women will experience physical and/or sexual violence by a partner a non partner. Moreover, studies conducted by the World Health Organization suggest that exposure to violent behavior can have detrimental impacts that can affect the physical, mental, and emotional health of a woman or girl; some instances of extreme violence also lead to death. Due to the epidemic of gender based homicides, the term femicide became apparent. The term femicide was coined by a woman named Carol Orlock, but was later defined in 2001 by an expert on violence against women and girls, Diana E. H. Russell. Femicide, as Diana defines it, is the killing of females by males because they are female . Presented by the World Health Organization, the main types and prevalence of femicide are intimate femicide, murders in the name of honor , dowry related femicide, and non intimate femicide (Garcia Moreno, Guedes and Knerr, 2012; 1 2). Indeed, the forms of femicide existing vary among all cultures internationally, however, in this paper; I will primarily focus on non intimate femicide in the region of Ciudad Juarez. Before delving into the complexities surrounding non intimate femicide in Juarez, I will first examine the politics of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Analysis Of No Firemen At Ground Zero By Michael Burke In the article No Firemen at Ground Zero This 9/11? , Michael Burke uses multiple techniques to persuade his audience of the injustice committed against the first responders of 9/11 by excluding them from the 10 year anniversary at Ground Zero. Burke works towards the goal of having first responders be included in the memorial at Ground Zero, after Mayor Bloomberg claims there isn t enough room. Throughout the piece, Burke targets his argument at the influential readers of the Wall Street Journal in New York to get them to use their influence to put pressure on Bloomberg to get the first responders to be properly honored. Some of the most important strategy that Burke uses to persuade his audience is the structure of his piece, and his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As Burke eventually does argue that first responders should be included in the memorial, he makes sure to point out that denying them the privilege of coming to the memorial would deny the first responders their due and proper honor .This would not be as impactful if Burke would not have started his piece by emphasizing the horrors that the first responders voluntarily walked into. By organizing the piece the way Burke did, it allowed him to shape the reader s viewpoint of first responders before he even began arguing his point that first responders must be honored at Ground Zero on the ten year anniversary of 9/11. Another powerful technique that Burke uses to persuade his audience is he uses quotes. Burke uses quotes from people who were at the scene of 9/11 themselves. Burke quotes a woman who was descending from the 89th floor who said When I saw the firemen I knew we would be all right. By using quotes like this, Burke shows the emotional reinsurance that the first responders gave to the people involved in the attack. By showing the emotional response to the first responders, it makes the reader clearly see the importance of the presence of first responders on the scene and the impact they had on the victims. The first responders altered the emotional atmosphere of the scene. This shows the significant of the first responders at the scene and how discluding them from the memorial is atrocious . Quotes worked hand ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Evolution Of Neon Signs Neon signs, you can find them just about anywhere such as bars, bowling alleys, and restaurants. You mainly see them in store windows saying open. But open signs are just the beginning. You can find them in a variety of vibrant colors and complex shapes. The atoms of the 18 noble gases including neon and argon, etc, will almost never form stable molecules by chemically bonding with other atoms. It s simple to build a gas discharge tube such as a neon light which reveals that inertness is a relative matter. To create a neon sign, you need to provide a high enough electric voltage to electrodes at the ends of a glass tube containing the noble gas. The light then begins to glow. The president was not sent to prison and Gerald Ford became the president when he shouldn t have but the part that went well was when Nixon got caught and resigned. The president got away with the crime when others who were involved did not. To begin with, the system of checks and balances did not work well during the Watergate affair because the president was not sent to prison after trying to spy on the democratic party to find misleading information against them to win the reelection. Descartes Arguments For The Mind Body Problem The mind body problem can be understood in the following way, there is something it is like to be and this being is by its nature subjective and an organism has conscious metal states only if there is something it is like to be that organism. This indeed seems to be incredibly perplexing to explain in terms of science because science the way it is practiced currently only explains phenomena objectively, either it tries to reduce and explain the subjective in terms of objective processes or only makes co relation of the subjective processes to the objective processes but if it only makes co relation then it is not able to explain the subjective itself. For example take the color red, no account of any physical theory of light wave, how ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This idea was first pointed to as far back as Thomas Hobbes and Pierre Gassendi, they both made claims which now would be understood as mind/brain identity theory (R 39). However it wasn t till the mid nineteen hundreds this claim was systematically fleshed out by a group of Australian philosophers which included J.J.C Smart. Smart gives the following analogy to make the argument clear, mental states are identical to brain states in the same way water in identical to H2O or lightning is identical to atmospheric electrical discharge. To further clarify the argument we will explain the important distinction between token and types. Imagine that there are four German Shepard s playing in the park, in this case we have four tokens of the type German Shepard. The tokens are the individual dogs and the type is the kind or class they belong to. The German Shepherds also belong to many other types for example, mammals, animals, material, object, etc. Now that we have the distinction between tokens and types clear we can further proceed and explain token identity and type identity. Take for example Superman and Clark Kent are the same person so if were to be invited to a party by Clerk Kent you are simultaneously invited to the party by Superman. Thus Clerk Kent and Superman being the same person are token identical. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Influence of Early Life and War on Kurt Vonnegut Jr. to Encourage a Generation Against War Kurt Vonnegut Jr. is one of the most well known World War II authors. His humble beginnings and early life misfortunes shaped not only his writings, but also his view of the world. His imprisonment in Dresden in World War II, however, formed his opinions about war at an early age and later inspired many of his works and style of writing. After the returning from World War II, Vonnegut voiced his sentiments through his writing that war was wasteful and uncivilized. After the bombing, Vonnegut was given the morbid task of carrying the corpses from Air Raid shelters, including women, children, and the elderly; dead from concussions, fire, or suffocation. In a letter to his father, Vonnegut described his job and the reaction of the locals, Civilians cursed us and threw rocks as we carried bodies to huge pyres in the city, (Boomhower). His distressing internment in Dresden not only furthered his anti war sentiments, but also established a reoccurring theme in his books: the irrationality of government and the senselessness of war. Vonnegut saw the bombing of Dresden and the slaughter of innocents as wasteful and meaningless. He could not comprehend the purpose of destroying a beautiful and fully functional civilization (Wiswell 5). The annihilation of the city and lives of the innocent affirmed his views of war as a waste, and even lead to his feeling that, civilization ended in World War I (Vitale). How many days or years does an average person lose due to radiation exposure versus cigarette smoking? Were you surprised by the number of days or years lost to radiation versus cigarette smoking? Why or why not? From the table, the life expectancy lost annually due to a typical background radiation of 360 millirems is 18 days compared to 6 days for smoking a pack of cigarette a day. I would have to say, the numbers are not surprising to me at all. I believe radiations from nuclear materials are very potent facilitators of carcinogenesis and DNA damages in humans. Hence, it is not surprising that radiation shortens the life expectancy humans than cigarette smoking. However, the compounded effect of both annual background radiation from natural sources and cigarettes, in addition to the carcinogenic effect of smoking would give a person that smokes a life expectancy loss of over 24 days per year ( Radiation and its health, 2014). At one stage, the animator draws Daffy with a guitar, we then expect to hear the guitar playing. But at first, no sound is heard when he strikes a chord. Daffy then holds up a sign asking Sound please , shortly after, we hear a variation of distant sounds that start again, whenever he plays a chord. At first, with a machine gun, then a horn and finally the sound of a donkey when Daffy strikes the guitar into the ground in frustration. To make matters worse, the animator goes on to take away Daffy s voice when he comes back on screen after clearing away the guitar. His voice, now replaced with animal sounds that Daffy gets embarrassed and distraught over. It is fantastic to see artistic variation between form, prop and even an anonymous force, but all of this could not compliment each other without the sound to intensify the moment. • 19. Upholding Restraint of Trade (ROT) Clauses The control on restraint of trade (ROT) clauses is designed to protect employees from vindictive employers, and courts tend to keep that in mind when hearing disputes. The question of upholding the ROT clauses in favour of the employee or employer by the courts would largely depend on the facts presented in the each case and the determination of the reasonability of ROT that would be covered in this paper. The extent to which restraint of trade clauses are legally allowed varies per jurisdiction. Some jurisdictions, such as the state of California in the US, invalidate non compete clauses for all but equity stakeholders in businesses. For the purpose of this comparative study, we will be using Singapore and California to illustrate the differences in the applicability of ROT and the different outcomes that would arise out of a case study, applying the different labour law on ROT restrictions in these two countries. 2. Applicability of ROT Singapore The law regarding restraint of trade clauses in Singapore has been originated from the case law where it helps in providing guidance on the effectiveness of such clauses. Non compete clauses during the period of the employment and beyond, the preservation of confidentiality clauses as well as non solicitation clauses are types of express restraint of trade clauses that are commonly found in employment contracts in Singapore. However, the existence of such clauses do not automatically imply that the courts in Singapore will ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 20. God Created Light, And The Nature Of Sovereignty And Control God created light, and it was good. God created day and night, and it was good. God created the Earth and the oceans, and they were good. Then God said, Let us make humankind in our image, according to our likeness; and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over all the wild animals of the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps upon the earth (Genesis 1:26). Everything that God created was good, but some of his creations were agents of evil and others were victims. God gave humans dominion over the plants and the animals, and that was created to be good. But, this dominion is misunderstood as it is read in a literal sense, and not within context of the time that the bible was written. Humans are not given dominion in the sense of sovereignty and control, but rather humans are to respect plants and animals, they are to till it and keep it (Genesis 2:15). Pope Francis in his encyclical Laudato Si says that tilling refers to cultivating, ploughing or working, while keeping means caring, protecting, overseeing and preserving. This implies a relationship of mutual responsibility between human beings and nature. Each community can take from the bounty of the earth whatever it needs for subsistence, but it also has the duty to protect the earth and to ensure its fruitfulness for coming generations (¶67). God placed Adam in his garden to till and keep it for him. Humans are to do the same with the Earth. Humans are to take care of and respect ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 21. Rhetorical Devices In Julius Caesar s Speech In Shakespeare s play of Julius Caesar, Rhetoric is the art of convincing and persuading people by language through public speaking which is used in Julius Caesar s speeches. These devices are used in Brutus and Antony statements throughout the play. Brutus is a conspirator who kills Caesar since he fears that he will have too much power over Rome and its people. In comparison, Marc Antony is the closest friend and most trusted to Caesar, who persuades the people of Rome against Conspirators for killing Caesar. (Thesis statement) Brutus appeals to logic when he explains his actions in Caesar funeral, where as Antony appeals to emotions, playing with the audience feelings to seek justice upon the conspirators. Brutus gives a speech to the people of Rome to explain his reasoning in killing Caesar by using logic. He claims that he killed Caesar because he loves Rome and fears for well being of the people since Caesar was an ambitious man. Brutus expresses feelings by saying Had you rather have Caesar were living, and die all slaves/ than that Caesar were dead to live all free men? (III.I.175). Brutus uses rhetorical questions to make a point to the audience of saying that Rome is better without Caesar because Caesar if he was alive they would all be slaves since Caesar would have ultimate power and control. Brutus showing facts to the people of Rome, Brutus s argument becomes influential to win over the audience. Throughout his Aboelfoul|2 speech, he calls Caesar ambitious ... Comparing Muriwai Beach with Eastern Beach HYPOTHESIS: A west coast beach is a destructive environment compared to an eastern coast environment which is constructive. Introduction: Muriwai Beach is a coastal community on the west coast of the Auckland region, in the north island of New Zealand. Muriwai is approximately 17ilometer m west of kumeu and 42 kilometre northwest of Auckland. Muriwai draws lots of surfers and fisherman. Eastern beach is a suburb of Auckland New Zealand. It is located on the eastern city of the city centre. Its most common attraction is a popular palm fringed beach, in summer, the temperature attracted thousands of people around Auckland. In this internal I would like to investigate whether there is a spatial difference between Eastern Beach and Muriwa, and find out what caused the two beaches to be different. Contribution Of The Montessori Method Maria Montessori once stated, The greatest sign of success for a teacher is to be able to say, The children are now working as if I did not exist (Chattin McNichols, 1992). The end goal of a Montessori classroom is to create independent and curious learners ready to take on any challenge thrown their way. The Montessori Method differs from traditional school settings because learning is child centered, meaning children create their own knowledge from experiences within a prepared environment. Who were the leaders? Maria Montessori, the first female physician in Italy, brought about revolutionary ideas in regards to Early Childhood Education because of how she understood how complex and advanced young minds were. Dr. Montessori had two main strands of ideas that overall led to her development in the Montessori Method. This includes the writings of the Swiss educators, Jean Jacques Rousseau and Johann Pestalozzi, who wrote about the need of hands on experiences and the Scottish businessman, Robert Owen, who insisted that the social environment contributed to children s knowledge (Bloom, 2004). Shortly after graduation, Dr. Montessori was placed into a psychiatric clinic where she would visit with people living inside of an insane asylum. One of the sports physics is involved in is softball. Newton s first law states when an object is in motion it stays in motion until acted upon by an outside force. This is the key element in softball. When the pitcher pitches the ball it travels on the path until the batter hits the ball. The softball travels through the air due to the seams (Bauer Westfall, Motion of a Softball, 2010). The seams cause high and low pressure fronts while the grip determines how the ball will rotate. As the pitcher pitches the softball the ball continues on the path until the batter hit the ball, thus changing the direction and speed (Bauer Westfall, 2010). The key to getting a good hit is hitting the ball on the sweet spot of the bat. The sweet spot is where there is the minimal vibration from the contact with the ball. This maximizing the energy transferred and the distance the ball will travel. The sweet spot is located about 17 centimeters from the end of the barrel (Bauer Westfall, 2010). The batter will be able to tell when the ball has hit the sweet spot on the bat because the batters hands will not sting. To analysis the physics of hitting a softball a person can use an equation and a free body force diagram (see Appendix A for free body force diagram). A uniform slender rod, pivoted at the end, represents the bat. FPx is the x factor of the force exerted on the slender rod by the fixed pivot P. It is defined as a series of images, ideas, emotions, and sensations occurring involuntarily in the mind during certain stages of sleep. But what is the real meaning of a dream ? There are three main explanations of dreaming: unconscious wish fulfillment theory, dreams for survival theory, and activation synthesis theory. In 1990 Sigmund Freud proposed the unconscious wish fulfillment theory he viewed dream as unconscious wishes that dreamers wish to see fulfilled. Dreams are subjected to each person but there are common elements often occurring in everyone s dream. Nightmares unusually frightening dreams, occur fairly often. However, Freud developed two content of dreams manifest and latent. Manifest, visible to the mind impersonates the latent content, the hidden meaning of a dream. Because the underlying wishes are threatening to the dreamer, they are hidden in the dream s storyline. However many rejected Freud s prospect because they believe that the direct, overt action of a dream is the focal point of its meaning. Metabolism is a sequence of biochemical reactions that take place in every single cell and organ to maintain the organism growth, reproduction, damage repair, and adaptation to the surrounding environment. These reactions involve catabolism and anabolism using the major sources of energy: proteins, lipids, and carbohydrates. Furthermore, any disruption in the regulation of the metabolic processes affects the individual s morbidity and mortality [1]. Accordingly, in this chapter, we are going to discuss diabetes mellitus, which is one of the main metabolic disorders. 1.1.1 Pancreatic regulation of Blood Glucose The regulation of the cornerstone of the whole body energy, glucose, in blood stream by the pancreas, specifically the islets of Langerhans, is very critical through the secretion of insulin and glucagon. Insulin, which is secreted from beta cells of the islets of Langerhans in response to high blood glucose levels, has an anabolic effect via its stimulation of glucose uptake in peripheral, skeletal muscle, as well as central, brain, tissues to be stored in the form of glycogen and fat [2]. On the other hand, low glucose levels enhance pancreatic alpha cells secretion of Glucagon that plays the catabolic role through stimulation of stored glycogen breakdown and formation of glucose from non carbohydrate sources via glycogenolysis and hepatic gluconeogenesis, respectively [2]. This mechanism is well controlled through the opposite secretion of these hormones in response ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

How Does Sandburg Use Personification In The Divine Grass The Divine Grass: Personification, Allusions, and Free in Grass by Carl Sandburg A great Italian poet named Dante Alighieri once said, Nature is the art of God. Nature has dominated earth since the very beginning. When all perishes, nature still remains. This is seen in the poem called Grass by Carl Sandburg which is a free verse poem that emphasizes war and the immortality of nature. Throughout, the entire poem, the speaker remains unsympathetic towards the deaths caused by humanity because it is a constant cycle. Sandburg uses personification, allusions, and free verse with an emphasis on the imperative tense to express nature as a divine being, covering up the casualties of human intervention. To demonstrate how insignificant humans are when compared to nature, Carl Sandburg used personification in order to make grass the speaker of the poem. In the poem, Grass appears to be a force of intelligence and labor. The speaker states, I am grass. I cover all (Sandburg 3). The answer to this question is tricky, but I think it was covered well throughout the play by focusing on the idea of, what would you say to a person you loved if they were still here? First, the definition of the human experience is all of the emotions and events someone will experience throughout their lifetime; examples fitting for this play are grieving and death. The first moment from Marjorie Prime where I felt the meaning was the first time we see Walter Prime. Walter Prime is clean cut and smooth in his dark blue suit and oxford shoes. He could pass for human, but his voice is eerily like that of a male Siri on iPhones. The whole idea of getting a prime for Marjorie was so that when her memory is totally gone from her mind, it will still be in the mind of the prime, and then he can feed her back her memories. The prime is in the form of Marjorie s husband, Walter, when he was in his thirties. Both of these elements of the prime give Marjorie back some companionship other than her daughter, Tess, and Tess s husband, John. We learn later on in the play that Marjorie lost her son, Damien, to suicide. The prime is able to help Marjorie s human experience by not relaying the painful memories of him back to her. So my theme this year seems to be revolving around the multitude of times God has said Don t be afraid . Ever since realizing that theme I have been so aware of my life moments when I know for sure I would have been too afraid to do something or say something but I purposefully now choose the path of bravery. This year it feels like the words Don t be afraid have been like a shield of armor around me keeping fear at bay. My attempts at living a life of don t be afraid first played out in my wanting to volunteer. It was as if I had a calling from deep inside my soul to just do it; just put myself in the thick of where someone else had a need. A year ago I was made aware that people only volunteer where they feel most comfortable; that it is rare that people will volunteer in places and activities they no nothing about or feel is too much away from people and a life they are accustomed to. So I thought about that and realized that I didn t want to be that kind of person so I signed up to be a volunteer in the cancer center of a hospital. Too many scary, uncomfortable scenes played out in my head and that is how I knew it was the right thing to do. Choosing this particular quest met all ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 44. The Steinbeck s Book And The Migrant s Choice Of Words... Having The Grapes of Wrath and Their Eyes Were Watching God on my library shelf occurred because the two novels are required summer reading for my junior year language arts class. I doubt I ever would have read Hurston s book, but Steinbeck s book is known to me. So, I took advantage of this opportunity, to become involved with Tom Joad (and his family) and Janie Crawford (and her grandmother and three husbands). From my reading, I saw connections with the issues of power and self fulfillment, survival, family life and relationship, and community connections. Both books take place in the 1930 s; one in rural Florida and the other from Oklahoma to California. The writing style in the books relies on conversation indicative to the identity of the characters and the setting. The initial problem I had is reading the southern dialect spoken by the characters in Hurston s book and the migrant s choice of words and speech patterns in Steinbeck s book. Eventually, I succumbed to it and became engaged with the character s determination and the impact of events on their lives as the stories evolved. Power is important in both books. For the Joads and the migrants it is confronting and dealing with the landowners. The idea of power results in a bond between the Joads and the Wilsons, and later incorporates the other migrant families. I see this as an example of self preservation. On the other hand, for Janie, power of others prevents her from achieving independence and self ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. How To Get Rid Of Cars In Cities Essay AGREE Cities are known for being packed with cars and people, but Taras Grescoe argues in her New York Times article that cities should be made car free. Cars are obviously one of the most popular choices for going from one place to another, but more recently cars have also become a popular weapon in terrorist attacks. Cars are easily accessible, which makes them an unsuspecting, instrument of mass murder, This was recently demonstrated in Charlottesville, VA, where a 20 year old man has been accused of ramming his Dodge Challenger into a crowd of people during protests, killing one person and injuring 19 more. The most obvious solution to this problem would be to ban cars in cities all together. There are many other ways to get from one ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to Taras Grescoe in her New York Times article, car attacks have become an increasingly common mode of terrorism. Although this might be true, that does not mean that cities should get rid of cars altogether. Even though cars might be turning into a weapon, they still stand to be a popular and efficient mode of transportation. Out of the thousands of cars that go through big cities everyday, In the last three years, at least 14 vehicle ramming attacks, have happened in Western cities. Thousands of cars safely go through cities, but only about five car attacks happen per year. Banning cars in might stop these attacks, but it might cause other problems with thousands of people relying on their cars to get them from one place to another. Banning cars might also help the environment, but an increasing amount of cars are already becoming more environmentally friendly. In more recent years, there has been a large increase in the amount of electric and fuel efficient cars, which is helping to prevent dangerous levels of pollution. No matter what the reason is, banning cars in cities is not going to do anything besides cause more ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 48. African American Oppression Between 1865 And 1905 Oppression is a common theme in history. Whether it is based on race or gender the oppressed are inevitably strengthened by the oppression through commitment and perseverance. African Americans were one of the most significant examples of oppression in American history. The emancipation of slavery in 1865 signified the slow fight for freedom and equality for African Americans. Between 1865 and 1905 they suffered extreme oppression, but remained united in their fight to gain independence. In 1865 all slaves were emancipated which declared them free, but racism was far from over. In the South, freed African Americans continued to be killed as an act of racial violence. Between the period of 1865 1905 African Americans fought to defeat their oppression. By the year 1905, freedmen were still fighting for the same rights they were fighting for in 1865. African Americans were oppressed in many regards, a great example of this is the black codes. Menace 2 Society Analysis 20th century South Central Los Angeles in Menace II Society and An ethnographic investigation and comparison of the film Menace II Society and the social and economic issues in South Central Los Angeles in the 20th century Introduction Before the picture even starts rolling in the film, a question which represents the economic issues of a place where poverty pervades a third of the population is posed and 1 muttered by a raspy voiced man asking Can y all brothers spare some change? In the 2 following three minutes, the film portrays a disturbing, violent scene, sure to shock the average audience member, sending a powerful message of the deeply rooted, menacing social issues which have come to be ingrained into everyday life in this society. Although soon after a love interest enters his life, he decides to turn his life around by overcoming his struggles and influences to change his character and leave Watts for Atlanta only to be killed just as he was about to embark on his journey out.
