Describe The Similarities And Differences Between The...
According to Niall Ferguson, westerners make up about 19% of the world s population, but have
66% of the world s wealth. The reason why westerners, or Europeans, are so wealthy today is
because of European cities. Western European cities during the time period of 1000 1500 CE had
distinct cultural developments which allowed Europeto later conquer world trade. Other global
civilizations, such as Mongol China and medieval Cairo, were similar and different from
medieval Europe culturally. These civilizations were similar in the fact that both Europe and
China had urban growth in cities; both Europeans and the Muslims of Cairo were able to live in a
society with no rigid rules. These civilizations differed from Europe as well: European towns were
autonomous, while the citizens of both China and Cairo were ruled by the... Show more content on

In addition to the differences they share culturally, there are differences between Europe and
both China and Cairo economically. For example, in European towns, capitalism was practiced.
Because there was no formal government dominating in Europe, capitalism allowed merchants
to do as they wished without the government s permission. This contrasts with China and Cairo,
as in these civilizations, socialism was exercised. Because of socialism, the merchants of China
and Cairo had to have the government s approval before they were able to make any decisions.
This is just one of the many differences between these global civilizations. Because Europe was
different than the other global civilizations, such as Cairo and China, it was able to advance and
later, dominate world trade. Europe today is one of the most wealthiest places in the world (they
have 66% of the world s wealth, according to Ferguson). They were able to achieve such power
and wealth because of the way European towns were

Low Back Pain Interview Paper
Interviewing CC with Low Back Pain
Patient Focused Elements I interviewed CC, a 42 year old female, who is suffering from her
back pain. CC obtained her master degree in computer science from Virginia Tech in 2004 and
works as a software engineer at Xetreme Websites at Kensington, Maryland. She is married and
has 2 kids, 7 and 5 years old. CC lives in our community and we knew each other at the block
party last August. She has been noticing worsening back pain over the past 2 years. She claimed
her first back pain late at night after she had been working on a program for the whole week. Since
then she tried to relieve her symptom by regular breaks and exercise, and she thought she is getting
better except the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The most comfortable area was her educational and living style because that s what she really
like to talk about. The least comfortable area was the uncertainty of the future because she has to
adjust her workload due to her physical condition. I can feel that s so hard for her; I felt sad and
wanted to seek help for her. When I shared the back issues my wife encountering and what we are
doing on it; I can see she felt much relaxed and talked about her symptom much easier. In terms of
communication techniques, I used active listening, clarification, reassuring and summarization. The
most effective skill I found was that to let the patient tell you what s are their concerns, and do not
cut off their stories.
Evaluation
From the beginning I explained why I needed an interview and how I can protect her information
confidentially. It was a relaxed and respectful conversation; we communicated easily and had eye
contacts attentively. I opened the conversation by asking how she was doing? She started talking
about her family, life and work. I was an active listener, allowed sufficient time sharing her
experience before asking follow up questions to explore in depth medical and psychosocial
concerns. My strengths were kind, respect and caring attitude; I also paid much attention to details.

Production Overheads Based On Direct Labour Hours Essay
Costing
At present PC4U apportions its production overheads based on direct labour hours. With a range
of products available and opportunity for customising these products individually to meet the
retailer s needs, this report aims to assess the effectiveness of this traditional method of allocating
production overheads. It will discuss the drawbacks of the current approach used by PC4U, as well
as an alternative approach in the Activity Based Costing system, which is intended to overcome the
weakness of the traditional method by having various pools of costs and then allocating each pool s
costs on the basis of its root cause. (Averkamp 2007) As well as comparing the benefits and
drawbacks of these costing systems to determine what recommendations should be given regarding
the approach PC4U should adopt, the report shall also discuss the impact an activity based
management system may have on the company.
The current method of apportioning production overheads based on direct labour hours can be
described as a traditional approach to product costing. In a manufacturing company s financial
statements, each item produced must be allocated some of the production overheads to make the
statements compliant. Sometimes the individual costs of these items can be calculated incorrectly
based on overall production overhead and the system of allocating in place, however the overall
financial statement can still be accurate. This traditional method of allocating the production

Explain Why Did The Frankfurt Parliament Fail
Why did the Frankfurt parliament fail? Throughout the 1840 s many German states were under
pressure from liberal demonstrators and nationalists who wanted a revolutionary change and greater
political representation. Those standing for a unified Germany recognised that a unified Germany
with a constitution and election would be the most efficient way of securing their political freedom.
However, German monarchs such as the king of Prussia, Frederick William IV feared that a united
Germanyunder nationalists conditions would cause Germany to lose its power and influence in
their land and territories. After the ferocious demonstration in not only Berlin in 1848 but also in
other states and nations, the king agreed to draft a prussian constitution... Show more content on

The Frankfurt parliament failed to accomplish its goals, the attempt of creating a unified Germany
through political reform did not work as it was intended to. One can argue that there are multiple
reasons for why the parliament failed but the strength of the conservative forces, the divisions
within the parliament and its inability to make decisions were significant causes as to why the
parliaments weaknesses were overpowering and caused it to fail.
One of the contributing factors to the failure of the Frankfurt parliament was the divisions within
the parliament itself. The parliament was mainly built upon liberals in the middle class who
happened to be males that had to be1 of a certain age as well as being economically stable, i.e it
did not represent the people as a whole. This was a problem itself as only one of the classes was
being represented, leaving the other two omitted which arguably caused problems within and
outside of the parliament. The parliament arguably consisted of three different groups, the liberals
who wanted to safeguard the rights of the central government and the individual rights, the radicals
who wanted to replace the princes and form a unified republic and thirdly the conservatives who did
not want the central government or

Child Prostitution in Asia
Child Prostitution in Asia In ancient times, children were viewed as smaller versions of adults.
There was little perceptible difference between an adult and their younger counterparts. By the
Middle Ages and up until the Renaissance, girls as young as twelve were still considered
marriageable age. Sexualizing children was a form of their education and indoctrination into the
world of adults. However, in the modern time, we have come to understand that children and
childhood is a time for innocence and development. The historical adulteration of children was
rightly seen as barbaric and archaic. Forcing children into adult roles can lead to a destructive
adulthood. Physical and emotional abuse of children can destroy someone. Even worse is the type
of abuse characterized by sexual activity and sexual interaction with children. The sexual abuse of
children leads to abnormal development and an adult with severe mental problems, prone to
violence and often continuing the chain of abuse into subsequent generations. Forcing a child to
commit sexual acts before they are physically or mentally mature enough to handle it is the worst
kind of crime. Yet, in nations all over the world, this kind of abuse not only occurs, but is a
profitable business for perpetrators. Child prostitutionis illegal all over the world, but in some
countries the laws against child prostitution and the use of underage people for sexual interactions
are lax and often go unenforced. The World Congress

ADN VS.BSN Degree Essay examples
Competency Differences between ADN and BSN Prepared Nurse Nursing education encompasses a
vast continuum. Within the undergraduate subdivision, there are two preparatory levels of nursing
education: Associates Degree in Nursing (ADN) and Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing (BSN).
Although the underlying philosophies of patient centered care and compassion remain consistent
between both degree levels, there are distinctions pertaining to clinical decision making and care
delivery. Major differences in competency of critical thinking and problem solving skills, evidence
based practice and clinical judgment, exist between nurses prepared at the associate degree level
and baccalaureate degree level, thus... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The BSN curriculum fosters the development of these skills. The nurse obtains knowledge
regarding public health and community issues. Additionally, the nurse develops skills in nursing
administration and research in order to provide optimum health care for the patient and
organization, thus carrying out expert assessment and evaluation (Forster, 2008). There are
numerous studies depicting the correlation between the four year degree nursing education and
improved patient outcomes. In the August 2008 edition of Health Services Research, Dr.
Christopher Friese and associates identified a link between patient outcomes and nursing
education level. They determined that moving to a nursing practice environment with a higher
proportion of baccalaureate prepared nurses led to a significant decrease in the mortality of
hospitalized cancer patients who underwent surgery. In addition to lowered mortality rates,
patients also experienced lower failure to rescue rates. In a separate study published by the
Journal of Advanced Nursing, researchers at the University of Toronto resolved that facilities with
a greater number of BSN prepared nurses had lower 30 day mortality rates. For every 1,000
patients discharged, a 10% increase in the number of baccalaureate degree nurses resulted in 9
fewer deaths (Rosster,

Point Of View In Lenny Abrahamson s Film Room
Some films make an impression on our lives that last forever, award winning film Room directed
by Lenny Abrahamson, is one of those films. In Room a young woman named Joy is locked and
hidden away in a shed with her five year old son Jack. Joy was locked in what her and her son
call room for seven years. Joy was seventeen when she tried helping a man with his injured dog,
but the man tricked her and kidnapped her. Room has a very well thought out plot, but an even
more well thought out composition. The use of point of view for Jack and the opening and closing
scenes of Room stand out the most. In the filma point of view shot is used quite a few times. A
point of view shot is very resounding and very remeable. A point of view shot can also... Show more

characters to briefly and one still has the sense of anticipation. There is then a rotating
establishing shot of the only natural light source in the room, a sky light. Jack then starts
narrating a story his mom Joy told him about when he was born. While this narration is going on
the film cuts to a shot of Joy and Jack in bed Jack is just waking up. This releases some of the
tension but there is still some residing anxiety and one really can t make out what is really
going on yet. Joy makes a plan to escape with most of the task on Jack. After Jack completes his
escape and leads the police back to his mom still locked in the room, they go live together with
Joys mom. Joy and Jack have a hard time adjusting to their new life. Joy gets very depressed and
has to seek treatment, while Jack stays with his grandma. When Joy and Jack are reunited Jack

A Thousand Splendid Suns Character Analysis
In A Thousand Splendid Suns and First They Killed My Father, we find the three female characters
of Laila and Mariam, and Loung, respectively, in harrowing and dangerous political atmospheres.
Both of the political atmospheres described in these two books expose these characters to harsh
realities of war, abuse, starvation, and oppression; these characters must also come to terms with a
rising body count around them. From Mariam s perspective, we hear that there was looting, murder,
and, increasingly, rape, which was used to intimidate civilians and reward militiamen (Hosseini
253). Despite these despotic circumstances, and perhaps in spite of the physical toll they take, the
three female characters of these books exhibit extraordinary perseverance as a result of their
tumultuous surroundings.
The most prevalent and threatening theme that each character experiences first hand, as a result of
the dangerous political atmospheres they are exposed to, is starvation; we slowly see each
character physically diminished throughout their stories. Loung describes vividly to readers, I can
count every rib in my rib cage, but my stomach protrudes outward, bloated like a ball between my
chest and hips (Ung 83). Similarly, Mariam recounts how starvation had ravaged Laila s daughter
s body: Aziza s ribs began to push through the skin, and the fat from her cheeks vanished. Her
calves thinned, and her complexion turned the color of weak tea. When Mariam picked her up, she
could feel her

The Importance Of Safe And Effective Prescribing Within...
The purpose of this assignment is to illustrate the use of safe and effective prescribing within the
role of health visiting (HV). This will be demonstrated by critically analysing prescribing episode
within the practice in relation to eczema. Therefore, provide an understanding of the benefits and
restrictions of HV taking on the role of the non medical prescriber. A framework will be utilised to
guarantee safe and effective prescribing, which is beneficial to guide nurses through the prescribing
process (Nuttall et al 2011). The significance of legal issues, being accountable and ethical
principles that endorse nurse prescribing. In accordance with the Nursing Midwifery Council
(NMC) (2015), confidentiality will be maintained throughout assignment, with pseudonym patient
names, Rose four month old and Elaine the mother. Nuttall (2013) that nurse prescribing is an
important activity within HV, since the recommendations from the Department of Health (DOH)
Crown reports one and two (1989, 1999). Following the government s Cumberledge report (1986)
which outlined the importance of nurses becoming prescribers within community settings to
improve delivery of care, benefits impose more flexibility when assessing and planning medication
treatment to service users (Nuttall et al 2011). Bishop et al (2015) see that nurse prescribing has
vast many benefits from patient concordance with treatment, reduction of both hospital and general
practitioners (GP) attendances.

Agendas, Alternatives, And Public Policy
Author John Kingdon s book entitled Agendas, Alternatives, and Public Policy takes at look at
Policy issues and examines how these policy issues became issues to begin with. Kingdon starts
his book by looking into how policy issues come to the government s attention. He expresses to his
readers that problems get identified when we focus on certain events or changes. Policy is taken
over by researchers and bureaucrats, and the political aspect is dominated by members of the
government. When these three come together, Problems, Policy and Politics, issues get on the
decision agenda.
In the first chapter of his book, Kingdon explains the point of his writing. He wants his readers to
know why and how certain issues come to and overtake the government and decision agenda. He
explains the difference between issues and alternatives. Issues are the vast areas of concern
whereas alternatives are the specific ideas that could be implemented. He also makes a distinction
between the government agenda and decision agenda. The government agenda includes subjects
that people involved in government are aware of. The decision agenda only includes specific
issues. These issues are made to discuss and take action on.
Kingdon begins by examining the importance of various actors within the government. The actors
in the administration include the President, Executive Office Staff, and Political Appointees. The
President is the actor who sets agendas through veto power and hiring and firing

Rhetorical Analysis of Public Thinking
Journalist, Clive Thompson in his book, Smarter Than You Think , specifically in the chapter titled,
Public Thinking , published on September 12, 2013, addresses the topic of technology and argues
that because of the internet, we are doing more writing now than ever. Therefore technology is
helping us think publicly in new and improved ways. He supports this claim by asserting that
there is an improvement in our writing, which is happening because of the audience effect , he
then goes on to say that anything we write changes the way we think, and finally he talks about
how the internet builds connections, which is essential to the spread of new ideas. Thompson s
purpose is to inform readers about how the internet is a tool being used to advance our society in
order to encourage more people to partake in online, public thinking. He adopts a contemplative
tone for his audience, the readers of The New York Times, and others interested in the topic of
technology. It is my intention in this paper to analyze the author s subclaims and use of rhetorical
strategies.
In his article, Thompson claims that there is an audience effect which is causing an improvement in
writing. While talking about the important aspects of the increase in online writing, Thompson
states that, When you write something online whether it s a one sentence status update, a comment

The Rise Of Civilization And Ancient Civilizations
The rise of civilization has always fascinated people. Since the appearance of anatomically modern
human beings, some one hundred and fifty thousand years ago, the emergence of civilization has
been one of the most important accomplishments of people.
Civilization is defined as an organizing principle that implies common institutions, economic
systems, social structures, and values that extend over space and time (Matthews 3). Some of the
things that make up a civilization are religion, government, arts, writing and language, currency,
study of science, math and medicine as examples. The two earliest known civilizations were
Mesopotamia and Egypt. These two civilizations arose around the same time and coincidentally
near one another, near the Mediterranean Sea. Many similarities and differences exist between
these ancient civilizations. In particular, the religions of these two civilizations are distinguishably
different, yet have many concrete similarities as well.
The religions of Mesopotamia and Egypt are the products of the environment that the people lived
in and their experiences living in it. Because of the harsh and unpredictable nature of their
environment, the religion of the ancient people in Mesopotamia was very pessimistic.
They lived only at the mercy of their gods, who they believed were of great power and controlled
the environment. In ancient Egypt, contrastingly, nature was far more stable and predictable. It was
thusly believed that the gods favored

Epic Of Gilgamesh Analysis
In the Epic of Gilgamesh , it is easy to conclude that Gilgamesh, the protagonist of the story, is the
hero. In Like Mayflies in a Stream , Gilgamesh is merely a scary person who appears in the story
here or there rather than being the protagonist. Instead, Shamhat is the main person that the story
focuses on, but the book is imprecise on one heroof the entire story. There are numerous characters
that could reflect hero aspects such as going on a quest, having another to help guide them, or
facing trials. Personally, I believe that there is no true hero in this story due to the nature that
Shamhat is a woman, who were represented badly during this time, and that Shauna Roberts did not
want to misrepresent the epic due to extreme... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This singular word, only , immediately tells us as a reader that they are looked down upon, are
not as good as men, and are not as important to society. Along with this, many people call
Shamhat a whore when her pregnant stomach begins to show. Women, and girls for that matter,
as Nameshda was only 13, were raped by Gilgamesh. Shamhat is the older sister in her family,
yet her younger brother Geshtu gets to make all of the decisions for the family. The scenarios in
this book are contemplative of how women are viewed and treated compared to the men of
society. Patriarchy is correct by their standards, and having women in any sort of important role
is almost nonexistent. Due to this condescending view, we can understand why it would be
difficult to have Shamhat as the hero in this story. If men are the superior ones, wouldn t it make
sense to have a man as the hero? In the event that a woman was a hero in this story, it may make
readers predict that the entire society will change their outlook on women by the end of the story.
On the other hand, others may think that Roberts was trying too hard to modernize this epic. With
this issue, Roberts could fear that creating this story with a female hero may be too contemporary
and take away from the true epic. She already modernized the book somewhat by adding in a love
triangle and happily ever after ending. Adding a female hero may just completely

The addict does not have a choice of whether or not to crave anymore than a diabetic can choose to

In the documentary, A Pleasure Unwoven, Dr. McCauley explains that until over a hundred years
ago doctors would usually try and treat the symptoms of a disease with poor outcomes and that
most diabetics died in early childhood (2009). It was not until the famous work of Louis Pasteur

By using this model we can see that if the organ was the pancreas, the defect Islet cell death (no

symptoms would get you nowhere. If, however, doctors were to treat the defect (no insulin) by
using insulin replacement therapy then the symptoms would recede and the disease would enter
remission. For many years doctors did not understand how to put addiction into this model and so

The Age Discrimination On Employment Act Of 1967
The Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967 was established to provide fairness in the
workplace for citizens over the age of 40. This law was intended to guard against employers
using unscrupulous hiring practices and unfairly firing individuals without legitimate reasons.
The Civil Rights Act was updated to fight discrimination based on sex, race, and religion, but
never addressed the issue of age. Age related concerns arose during the 1960 s when the
economy began to change rapidly in technology and scope. Many experienced professionals
were being displaced or simply discriminated against, because it was believed that it was cheaper
to hire and train inexperienced employees, or because it would save on pension expense that was
due to personnel approaching retirement age. The Age Discrimination in Employment Act of
1967 provides security for older employees that have the competency to do work but are held in
prejudice, because they are advancing in years. According to the West s Encyclopedia of
American Law (2005), before the enactment of the Employment Act of 1967, it was a standard
practice to fire a senior employee in order to give a promotion to a younger staff member. This
practice supposedly saved the company money, because the wages of the newly promoted person
were lower compared to the previous staff. In addition, this behavior promoted the idea within the
business that the manager does not need any substantial justification to let staff members go. The

Lottery Narrative Story
The morning of April 1st was sunny and bright; the ground was moist and flowers of vibrant
colors were blooming. The olive green trees were swaying in a gentle breeze and the river by the

attention. The villagers of Shiveria had begun to assemble at the center of the villagewhere the
annual lottery was being held. Because of the towns small population of 400 people, the lottery
would probably take less than 3 hours. The children ran from their homes, as they had the day off
from school because of the lottery. Bryan McCabe, a boy about 13, collected stones and filled up
his entire backpack with them. When they reached the villagecenter, they placed all their rocks in a

him insane for wanting to stop the lottery and claimed he was betraying every tradition they had.

Theobromine Research Paper
Although discovered by A. Woskresensky in 1841, and synthesized by E. Fischer in 1882,
theobromine can be traced back to ancient civilizations such as the Aztecs. With seven carbon, eight
hydrogen, four nitrogen, and two oxygen atoms, theobromine s chemical formula is C7H8N4O2,
and can be found in the beans of the cocoa plant, tea leaves, or kola nuts. From the hulls of the
cocoa beans, theobrominecan be extracted, coming out to be a white powder. The largest supply
of these cocoa beans, more than 70% of them, originates from western African countries, where
they are harvested on plantations, and then packed and sold to chocolate companies. These
companies will then sell the delicious treat for the public to enjoy in a plethora of ways.

Gambling Addiction
Introduction Gambling can stimulate the brain s reward system much like drugs or alcohol can,
leading to addiction (Compulsive, 2016). That is when gambling goes from a fun, harmless
pastime to an unhealthy obsession with serious consequences. Whether you bet on horses, buy
lottery tickets, play poker, or pull the arm on the One Armed Bandits in a casino, at the track, or
online if your gambling becomes a problem, it can strain your relationships, interfere with work,
and lead to financial disaster. It can cause you to do things you never thought you would do like
stealing money, not paying your bills, and pawning everything you own to get more money. All so
you can keep gambling or pay your debts. Gambling addictionalso called Compulsive gambling is
the uncontrollable urge to keep gambling despite the toll it takes on your life. Gambling means that
you re willing to risk something you value in the hope of getting something of even greater value
(Compulsive, 2016).
Individual Impact
When a person is a compulsive gambler or an addict, the effects are devastating. Many addicts will
use credit cards , loans, or even tap our their retirement fund to pay for their addiction. The result
places them in debt to the point of losing homes, jobs, vehicles, and even filing bankruptcy. If they
become to attached to the gambling they can forget to care for themselves causing poor physical
and emotional health. It can also cause additional addictions to drugs, smoking, or alcohol

Guinea Worm Eradication Program ( Nigep )
Guinea worm has long been documented in Nigeria, yet despite the long term presence, there had
been little effort to quantify the burden or to prevent the disease until the inception of the Nigerian
Guinea Worm Eradication Program (NIGEP).6 NIGEP was developed with the goal of eliminating
guinea worm cases in Nigeria. However, this program also aimed to better understand the full
burden and distribution of the disease in Nigeria and to define a framework to begin to initiate
prevention measures for the disease.6
The announcement of the inception of NIGEP in 1988 was quite bold due to the lack of data on
the burden of guinea worm nationally and the lack of effort previously taken to prevent the
disease in Nigeria. What might explain a seemingly rash decision by the Ministry of Health, is
that a UNICEF sponsored study was released in 1987 documenting the high endemicity of guinea
worm in Nigeria and the loss of agricultural productivity that the country was facing.3 Following
this document, a Nigerian newspaper published a cover story on guinea worm and the need for
eradication in the country.3 From there on the Nigerian mass media seemed to incorporate guinea
worm into all modes of the media.3 Finally, the major push for the NIGEP occurred in 1989 when

Tribulations Of Leave In James Joyce s Eveline
Tribulations of Leaving
Eveline is deeply troubled about whether she should leave or stay. In Joyce s Eveline there are
many reasons that Eveline should leave and just a few big reasons why she should stay, and the
reasons are the way the father treats her, the way she feels obligated to stay, the unknown things
of Eveline leaving ultimately made her not want to leave with frank. Eveline should leave
because of the way the father treats her. Eveline says, Even now, though she was over nineteen,
she sometimes felt herself in jeopardy of her father s violence (Joyce). This shows that she was
terrified that her father was going to beat her. Eveline had two choices which Waltz said: Her

Even though the kids are not hers it has been made her responsibility to make sure they get to

Automated Design And Modelling Of Knuckle Joint
AUTOMATED DESIGN AND MODELLING OF KNUCKLE JOINT ABSTRACT
This paper shows the methodology of developing an application for design process of machine
element making a Knowledge Based Engineering (KBE) in the visual basic interfacing with the
solid works to automate the task of repetitive design process and design models, while reusing and
modifying the existing designs in a Computer Aided Design (CAD) environment. The presented
work shows the procedure for developing KBE tools for standard design process of machine
element and mechanical /engineering parts and assemblies based on the empirical relations. With
the proposed methodology and the developed Graphic User Interface (GUI), it is possible to
achieve direct interaction between ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
KBE is a system or process which collects and stores and organizes this knowledge and makes it
available in the reusable form by providing computational support to the design process.
The need of KBE arouse due to problems in current knowledge structure, which is disorganized.
Existing databases, designs, thumb rules, etc. are not maintained in order, which makes the
reusability difficult. Current knowledge structure is not secure also, as the databases that are
not prepared centrally are susceptible to changes by other designers and loose reliability.
Capturing knowledge is essential, but capturing the knowledge that is not necessary would lead
to confusion and decrease effective reusability. KBE systems solve all the problems which are
indicated above. KBE allows designers to devote more time and effort in creative and the
innovative work and makes design process simpler. KBE system automatically extracts the given
necessary knowledge from every stage of design cycle, and makes this knowledge available for
remaining design cycles. KBE system allows capturing and organization of knowledge in an
efficient manner. With the application of KBE, it is possible to analyze the possibility of
manufacturing any part, knowing whether design is optimal or there are other alternative solutions
available based on the designer. The objective of the present work is to develop methodology for
automating

The Effects Of Acid Rain On Plants
Abstract
Acid rain is a current issue due to the potential danger it could pose to plant life in the case that it
is harmful to plants. In this lab, it was determined whether or not acid water was harmful to red
radish plants, and in doing so, established the possible effects of acid rain on plants. It was
hypothesized that the acid would take all nutrients from the soil, therefore harming the plants. In
this lab, three plants two experimentals and one control were monitored after receiving either acid
water or tap water. After the experiment was conducted, it was plain to see that the plants were
affected negatively by the acid water, as the plants to receive the acid water immediately showed
symptoms of nutrient deficiencies, therefore proving the hypothesis. As such, acid rain was proved
to be a danger to the environment, as it destroys nutrients in the soil, therefore killing the plants.
Without efforts to minimize acid rain, it could potentially destroy the ecosystem.
Introduction
The purpose of this lab is to determine whether or not acidic water affects the growth of red radish
plants. Vinegar with a similar acidic pH as acid rain was used to water plants to simulate the
effects of acid rain which is a current problem.. The pH used was 3.5. In comparison, the tap
water was a pH of 7, a neutral liquid. By simulating acid rain and observing how the vinegar
affects the plant, it will be possible to come to a conclusion about how acid rain may affect crops.

The Veldt By Ray Bradbury Analysis
Competing, as humans we compete so much throughout our lives, it s what makes us human. We
even try so hard that we distance ourselves from others. Ray Bradbury shows us in his two stories,
The Veldt and Marionettes, Inc. that there is something we can t contend with; technology. In these
stories the author shows us a world where people are distant because of and can t compete with
technology. In Ray Bradbury s short story The Veldt he shows us a family that is so distant from
each other because of technology. The Hadley family lives in a Happylife Home that does
everything for them and the children depend on their nursery that has raised them their entire
lives. Mr. David McClean comments to Mr. Hadley, You ve let this room and this house replace
you and your wife in your children s affections. This room is their mother and father, far more
important in their lives than real parents ( The Veldt 10). Children Wendy and Peter live in their
own personal bubble because they don t have to rely on their parents for anything. The children rely
so much on their nursery that it has replaced and made them so distant from their own parents.
Technology has become the children s parents; their role model. The nursery has caused the family
to become distant, but it s more than that, it s the entire house. Bradbury adds, And he marched
around the house turning off the voice clocks, the stoves, the heaters, the shoe shiners, the shoe
lacers, the body scrubbers and swabbers

Examples Of Outdated Things In The Outsiders
Although the book The Outsiders was published 50 years ago there are still things that are not
timeless but there are some things that are outdated. Some examples of timeless things are that
we still have gangs, and fighting. Also, some examples of outdated things are rumbles, escaping
by a train, boys home. All of these examples show that the book still relates to students every day.
Some examples of things that are timeless are that we still gangs, and stereotypical people. The
whole book was based on gangs, we still have gangs today some people can get really violent just
like in the book. It says this in the book I m not saying that either Socs or Greasers are better.
(Hinton, 3) This shows that there are two main gangs in the book the Greasers and the Socs. Not
only are gangs timeless but also stereotypical people are. People just assume things that the... Show

In the book, the one really big event that everyone knew about was the rumble. The rumble is
where there is a really big fight where all of the gangs get together and fight each other. Today
people don t have rumbles people do fight most the time one on one or like a small group but not
like that. It talks about this on page 11 in the book A rumble, when it s called, is usually born of
a grudge fight, and the opponents just happen to bring their friends along. This helps you
understand that in the Outsiders the gang s did have rumbles. Another thing that is outdated in
the book is escaping by a train. It is illegal to do that today and it would be really hard to get
away with that because of all of the high security. It says that Johnny and Pony did this in the book
The train slowed to a screaming halt. Now, whispered Johnny. We ran and pulled ourselves into an
open boxcar. (Hinton, 62) This quote shows that they traveled somewhere by jumping on a train

In 1950, the Lao Resistant Government established a state and named it Pathet Lao in Lao. The
state did not have its own territory and based in Vietnam. The PL tried to return to its own country
with the military assistance of the DRV. However, the PL didn t have the firm base until the

The Successful Outcome Of The United Nations Essay
The successful outcome of the United Nations 21st annual Conference of the Parties (COP21)
raised hopes and expectations of concerted global efforts to tackle climate change, and brought
forward a whole raft of questions:
How will this affect the momentum behind the deployment of key renewable technologies and the
drive for greater energy efficiency?
Ample supply is keeping downward pressure on fossil fuel prices, coal, oil and natural gas. When
and how will market dynamics change or might lower prices for some fuels be here to stay?
The impact of local pollution, often energy related, on air quality is a matter of rising social and
political concern in many countries. How can governments act to tackle this problem and what
would these actions mean for the energy sector?
The World Energy Outlook 2016 published by the International Energy Agency(IEA) is coming out
in November and will shed some light on these questions with insightful analysis.
In the meantime, there is one matter that everyone can agree on: for the near future, energy
demand will continue to grow. How it is produced and used will be a critical factor in the future of
the global economy, geopolitics and the environment.
With that in mind, McKinsey Company s Global Energy Insights team took a hard look at the data,
modeling energy demand by country, sector and fuel mix, with an analysis of current conditions,
historical data and country level assessments. On this basis, McKinsey put together

Persuasive Essay On Censorship
They say that the less you know the better, which couldn t be more true. Why bother with
information that will cause more stress and unnecessary worry in your life? This is where
censorship comes into play. Whether it be about the world or your country, there will always be
something you do not know. People automatically assume that it s a bad thing when certain
information is kept away from society. But is it? I mean, censored material is censored for a
reason! It s not a difficult concept to understand. Daily occurrences are often things that are seen
on the internet as well as on TV. Do you really want to know about some of the events that
happen on a daily basis? Events that could scar a person physically, emotionally, and
psychologically? Events that would be deemed inappropriate for certain ages? Or what about
actions that could be repeated again negatively? No one wants to live in a country like North
Korea; however, some action is necessary. North Korea has censored much of their country,
specifically, the internet. Different aspects of speech are removed, including hate speech. The
case is similar to different countries as well. In Canada, judges can deem what hate speech is and
have it removed from the internet (Brandon Gaille). Having a judge, someone who is of high order
and education, would be beneficial to society in this case.
I know it may be tough for some people to understand, but censorship is something that benefits
society, especially when it comes

studying and measuring characteristics of patients with PICCs as well as the details of the
specific PICC used in order to identify common factors of infection. The researchers viewed the
topic of interest as clinically significant due to the growing implementation of PICCs and to
provide information for safer decisions among PICC use and care of patients (Chopra et al.,

All participants were studied until the PICC(s) were excised or an infection developed. Patient
characteristics measured included: demographics, hospital unit, comorbidities, and markers of
illness (Chopra et al., 2014). Device factors considered included: duration of use, indication for
placement, complications such as dislodgement or number of insertion attempts, arm of choice
used, vein of choice, unit where PICC was placed, implanting operator such as radiologist or
vascular access nurse, number of lumens, and gauge of PICC. The association between the
descriptive characteristics chosen, both PICC and patient, and the development of bloodstream
infection was determined using bivariate logistic regression for unadjusted odds ratios and 95%
confidence intervals (Chopra et al., 2014). The study determined the most common factors
among those sampled to be: an overwhelming majority of male patients (98%), most seeking long
term use for antibiotic treatment (52%) or for venous access (21%), 85% were placed by
vascular access nurses within the basilic vein of the right arm (Chopra et al., 2014). Single

Teams Are An Integral Part Of Most Business Situations
In all employment situations, there will be circumstances where an employee will find themselves
on a team with a specific problem to solve or goal to reach. Teams are an integral part of most
business situations. Leadership within the respective organization often creates teams. The way
that the leadershipinteracts with the teams can affect how cohesive the team is and if they reach
their goals. These two groups can cause a business to succeed or fail.
Teams
Utilizing teamwork has been a key to the success of our military for many years. The most
effective of these is the cross functional team. This is a team comprised of, employees from about
the same hierarchical level, but from different work areas, who come together to accomplish a task.
(Robbins Judge, 2009) One of these teams I was a part of was involved in ensuring a large multi
agency training event occurred without any problems. This event involved the Active Army, Army
Reserves, Army National Guard, Active Air Force, Air Force National Guard, Marine Corps, local
fire departments, local law enforcement agencies, and the Departments of Emergency Management
from multiple states. It had national military and civilian leaders that came to watch the outcome.
This extremely high stress situation was accomplished through teamwork and planning. The event
was checking the response of the agencies to a natural disaster situation. The meetings that we had

Job Satisfaction And The Banking Industry
Job Satisfaction in the Banking Industry 1. Research design Cross sectional design aimed at
finding out the level of frequency of specific subject matter, such as job opportunities and its
satisfaction in a defined number of population at a specific time period. (Cress sectional surveys,
2015) For example, by carrying out cross sectional research we can find out what is the level of
worker s satisfaction, dissatisfaction, stress and burnout in their designated role. Advantages of
cross sectional design include: A single research can find out various outcome variables and
relevant information. On the basis of these variable and information, the level of job satisfaction
in the banking industry can easily be classified. It is cheap to perform and does not take long
time. To perform the research only 15,000 employees have been chosen out of 69,000, which
roughly denotes 21% of the whole employees. Multiple variables of data can be captured at a time
as participants are required to provide detail information such as name, gender, address etc. while
doing the survey. Captured data can be used for various other research. Through this particular
research it can be find out those other jobs which are high in demand too. After comprehensive
checking, analysing and filtering the research regarding job satisfaction in banking industry, these
findings can be used as theory or step for further depth research study. Disadvantages of cross

subcommittees were brought together wednesday during a meeting of two panels working on gang
violence issues, but the element of time was also a key issue discussed by those in attendance at the

The Significance of Women in the Play Oedipus Essay
When you say Man, said Oedipus, you include women too. Everyone knows that. She said, That s
what you think. These lines, from the ending of Muriel Rukheyser s poem On Oedipus the King,
Myth, comment on the significance of women both in the play and in society. Though the character
of Oedipussuggests that women are equal, the issue of the true role of women is brought up in the
poem, and is raised in Sophocles play.
The female who plays the largest role in Sophocles play is Oedipus wife and mother, Iokaste. From
the beginning, one can assume that she has little say in the events of her life. As queen of Thebes,
she had little power over the rulings of the kingdom. Furthermore, once news of her husband s death
came ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Women have little responsibility in the workings of society and are basically seen as child
bearers. For example, anytime Iokaste is mentioned, the fact that she is the bearer of children
seems to always follow. In the first scene, Oedipus describes how indebted he is to Laios. Now I,
having the power that he held before me, having his bed, begetting children there, upon his wife,
as he would have, had he lived their son would have been my children s brother, if Laios had had
luck in fatherhood! (727) Iokaste is not presented as an actual being; instead, she is described as
Laios property that had come into Oedipus possessionalong with the throne, land, and power. A
similar instance occurs in the third scene when Choragos says, It is this very place, stranger; he is
inside. This is his wife and mother of his children. Instead of presenting Iokaste as the queen of
Thebes, Choragos introduces her as belonging to Oedipus and as the bearer of Oedipus offspring.
The insignificance and expectations of women in society are further presented in the Exodus. In
the Exodus, Oedipus says, As for my sons, you need not care for them. They are men, they will
find some way to live. But my poor daughters, who have shared my table, who never before have
been parted from their father take care of them, Kreon; do this for me. (760) Oedipus also says,?

retail store worldwide with $482.1 billion in revenue and has 2.3 million associates. As I have
worked there for the summer holding an instock position in the back room unloading trucks, I have

company.
Risks and Hazards Identified by Walmart
Walmart identifies many different risks and hazards that an employee may face during work and
believe that employees need to be aware of them. These hazards can be identified in various forms
such as: physical, ergonomic, chemical, psychological, and safety/security
Physical Hazards: can result when performing various activities around the workplace. They can
occur from the equipment that we use, such as the pumps trucks, electric pump trucks or from the
trash compactor. Employees need to be trained on how to properly use the different equipment to
ensure that they have sufficient knowledge on how to operate them safely. The training allows for
individuals to understand what to do when there is a malfunction with the equipment and how they
need to be properly reported and documented, as well as locked away so that others do not use the
broken equipment.
Other physical harms can be from slipping, which can be prevented from non slip safety shoes

Key Variables Related To Juvenile Delinquency

Juvenile delinquency has been an emerging problem, involving much interest from researchers
around the world. In Robinson et al. (2015), juvenile delinquency can be defined as committing any

at home or in the school. Painter (2010) stated, The National Advisory Mental Health Council Work

Juvenile delinquency is a significant issue that lacks understanding and research needs to be done
to find possible factors, such as SES, that may play a role in the effectiveness of treatment
outcomes. An important shortcoming of the existing research is the lack of studies that examine
the data on delinquent outcomes to consider the possible impact of socioeconomic status (SES). In
Tiernan et al. (2015), they determined that demographic factors such as socioeconomic status have
been related to treatment outcomes in evidence based treatment. Research suggests that clinicians
should pay more attention to factors interfering with progress in cases with delinquent youth
(Tiernan et al., 2015). Importantly, none of these studies have examined the roles of socioeconomic
status in the perspective of understanding MST treatment efficiency (Robinson et al., 2015). The
purpose of the current study is to explore how effective Multisystemic therapy is on juvenile

I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings, By Maya Angelou
In I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings, by Maya Angelou, Maya learns just how critical books are
to everyone and learns to be dependent on them over other people because while everything
around her is changing, books, writing and literature are always there to be her friend. Everything
Maya was dependent on, before she discovered books, (her mother, Momma, Bailey, her family, her
educators and her home) are so unstable throughout the whole book that she can not depend on
them. However, through all of that, books are always there and they are critical to her.
Maya Angelou writes As quickly as I had not reached my home, I sneaked away to Robin Hood s

(Angelou, 70) which states that, as Maya arrives to her house, she realizes it s not her home. As

realised and formulated, there needs to be a well organized system which works together, jointly
as well as separately for ultimate achievement of the goal, which in a democracy would be to
help people realise their will, express that will and help the people to formulate the ideas as to
what is right for society and be part of what would then become ideally, a true and well functioning
democracy. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He was an ardent believer in the theory of natural law which is a philosophy of law that is
determined by nature and so would be universal. Natural law refers to the use of reason to analyze
human nature, both socially as well as personally and to deduce binding rules out of morality and
moral behaviour out of them.
Locke believed that there should be a separation of powers whereby there would a legislative body
which has the ultimate power of making laws, he believed that the legislative authority should be
given such power, because the members of such legislative authority are elected by the people who
will be the guardian of the natural laws that he holds dear and as his first and foremost priority.
John Locke believed that there should be a separation of powers, but rather than the tri partite
system as we know today, he believed in a bi partite system of governance that included just the
executive and the legislature, the legislature being in this case the law making body, whereas the
executive would be the king on the monarchy who could exercise judicial powers.
John Locke was questioned by certain other philosophers of government policy on how there
could be an executive who is a monarch who has an absolute power alongside a democratic
legislature which makes their own laws which are the representative of the will of the society in
general,

The Model Of Racial Equality
In certainty, the model of racial equality has not always been performed, nor has it been fully
accomplished in the world. This is because the acceptance in racial equality has been said to
counter deeply rooted beliefs in racial inequality and political, legal, and customary practices of
racial discrimination and oppression. Therefore, racial equality is stated in antiracist philosophy
and in antiracist political mobilization.
With this said, as citizens, are we still equal? The answer to that question is no . The world is
living in Orwellian times where citizens are equal, but some citizens are more equal than others.
While some agree, there are many groups that are pushing for reform and equality, such as Take
Back Our Republic, By The People, and Common Cause: Holding Power Accountable. Now that
the facts are said, we must ask how did we become so unequal? Over time, big corporations, racial
groups, and corruption in government have been advocating inequality for the minority. Some
people are filled with wrong ideas and beliefs that attack those in the minority group, especially
people of color. Franklin said, almost from the beginning of their national history, people have been
relentless, at times ruthless, in their pursuit of equality.
Nearly fifty years ago, Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his I Have a Dream speech, a clarion call
for the end of racial discrimination in the United States. The 1963 March on Washington for Jobs
and Freedom also called for

Organizational Culture And The Lincoln Electric Company
ORGANISATIONAL CULTURE AND THE LINCOLN ELECTRIC COMPANY
The success of a business is intimately tied to the success of its culture. To understand better how
organisational culture is created and maintained we will examine one of America s most
successfully managed companies, the Lincoln Electric company. We will examine many aspects of
the company that contribute to its culture, such as the influence of the company s founders, the
golden rule, the incentive management plan, the performance appraisal system, the merit pay plan,
the bonus plan, the way people communicate within the company and the management style. In
analysing these we will reveal a strong people oriented culture formed and maintained for over a
century.

Consequently, there has never been an attempt at unionising within the company and this is partly
due to there not being a need. When workers are not being exploited, there is no need for them to
fight back.
James Lincoln was the son of a congregational minister and his Christian values were a guiding
principle in his managerial decisions. When viewing his employee policies, we can see the golden
rule at work. The needs of employees at every level are thoughtfully considered and aligned with
the needs of the company. More than that, the customer is also given great consideration and the
creation of products with real value is given providence over marketing or advertising. There is a
genuine commitment to creating real worth rather than short term profits. James treats both the
customers and the employees with respect and dignity, creating a culture is that is people oriented.
The only people involved in the business that are not see as important are the shareholders. They
are not actively involved in the business and their interests are therefore seen as the least important.
This attitude may have protected Lincoln from a gradual change toward a more aggressive or sales
oriented culture.
Lincoln s incentive management plan is not only exemplary in its structure, but also in its
implementation. For example, piece work has been shown to increase worker productivity, but has
also been widely abused as a means of rewarding workers less for the work

The Lady With The Pet Dog Chekhov
One of the sweet comforts in life is to curl up in a favorite chair with a short story that will
briefly carry people away from their everyday lives. On rare occasions, a tale mirrors real life in
such a way that one is strangely comforted by the normalcy reflected in the words. A perfect
example of a story about ordinary life that will soothe the soul in search for some insight on
understanding the human behavior is Anton Chekhovs The Lady with the Pet Dog. This style of
writing has such a mass appeal because the characters wear recognizable social masks and reflect
an everyday reality. In his simple story of a chance meeting between a middle aged, chauvinistic,
repeat offender adulterer, unhappily married man, and a young, naГЇve,... Show more content on

After becoming acquainted, Anna and Gurov walked and talked of the strange light on the sea:
the water was a soft, warm, lilac color and there was a golden band of moonlight upon it (Chekov
507). Later, when he is alone in his hotel room, Gurov reflects on her slim, delicate throat, her
lovely gray eyes (Chekov 507) and his thoughts reveal that he has determined this young, vulnerable
woman to be an ideal candidate for another one of his many affairs that he just cannot help
becoming involved in. And as the story unfolds, the color gray reveals itself as an integral
component in the sort of comfortable, yet, unresolved feeling that the relationship between Gurov
and Anna emanates. Finally, when things are heating up between the two lonely travelers, so is the
weather, which was close indoors, while in the street the wind whirled the dust about (Chekov 507)
and their thirst is unrelenting no matter what they eat or drink to quench it. One did not know what
to do with oneself (Chekov 507), seemingly, with the desire for one another that is beginning to
blossom. On this particular evening, the couple makes way for the pier to watch the incoming ship.
A crowd of people have gathered with many bouquets of flowers to greet arrivals. The churning
ocean echoes the intensity of their attraction for each other, along with the mess of people
surrounding them and Anna s display of uneasiness and absentmindedness. As the crowd thins out,

Nikola Tesla s Impact On The Car Company
When people think about famous people from the early 1900 s many may think about Thomas
Edison, inventor of the light bulb and DC electricity, or Albert Einstein, founder of the Theory of
Relativity, and the famous equation, E=mc2. Many have heard the name Tesla as a car company
which specializes in electric vehicles. This paper is not going to be on the car company, but rather
the person who indirectly inspired its name, Nikola Tesla.
On July 10th, 1856, Tesla was born in Smiljan, Croatia. Tesla was born during a storm and the
doctor told his mother that he will be a child of the storm, his mother insisted, he will be a child of

Henrietta Lacks Essay
Henrietta Lacks was born on August 1, 1920, in Roanoke, Virginia. Lacks died of cervical cancer
on October 4, 1951, at age 31. Cells taken from her body without her knowledge were used to form
the HeLa cell line. Lacks s case has sparked legal and ethical debates over the rights of an
individual to his or her genetic material and tissue.
Life and Death
Henrietta Lacks was born as Loretta Pleasant. At some point in time, she changed her name to
Henrietta. After her mother died in 1924, she was sent to live with her grandfather in a log cabin,
that had been the slave head quarters of a white ancestor s plantation. Henrietta shared a room with
her first cousin. When she was 14, they had a boy named Lawrence and a girl name Elsie. In 1941,

The case gained new visibility in 1998, when the BBC screened an award winning documentary on
Lacks and HeLa.
The Lacks family has been honored at the Smithsonian Institution and the National Foundation for
Cancer Research. The HeLa case has raised questions about the legality of using genetic materials
without permission. Neither Lacks nor her family granted permission to harvest her cells, which
were then cloned and sold. The Lacks family has had limited success in gaining control of the HeLa
strain. In August 2013, an agreement between the family and the National Institutes of Health
granted the family acknowledgement in scientific papers and some oversight of the Lacks genome.
Henrietta Lacks Foundation
The Henrietta Lacks Foundation is a non profit organization founded by Rebecca Skloot, author of
The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks, who is donating a portion of her book s proceeds to the
Foundation. Henrietta was a poor black farmer whose cancer cells had damaging consequences for
her family who today can t afford access to the health care advances their mother s cells helped
make possible. The Foundation strives to provide financial assistance to needy individuals who
have made important contributions to scientific research without personally benefiting from those
contributions, particularly those used in research without their knowledge or consent. The
Foundation gives those who

  • 2. Describe The Similarities And Differences Between The... According to Niall Ferguson, westerners make up about 19% of the world s population, but have 66% of the world s wealth. The reason why westerners, or Europeans, are so wealthy today is because of European cities. Western European cities during the time period of 1000 1500 CE had distinct cultural developments which allowed Europeto later conquer world trade. Other global civilizations, such as Mongol China and medieval Cairo, were similar and different from medieval Europe culturally. These civilizations were similar in the fact that both Europe and China had urban growth in cities; both Europeans and the Muslims of Cairo were able to live in a society with no rigid rules. These civilizations differed from Europe as well: European towns were autonomous, while the citizens of both China and Cairo were ruled by the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In addition to the differences they share culturally, there are differences between Europe and both China and Cairo economically. For example, in European towns, capitalism was practiced. Because there was no formal government dominating in Europe, capitalism allowed merchants to do as they wished without the government s permission. This contrasts with China and Cairo, as in these civilizations, socialism was exercised. Because of socialism, the merchants of China and Cairo had to have the government s approval before they were able to make any decisions. This is just one of the many differences between these global civilizations. Because Europe was different than the other global civilizations, such as Cairo and China, it was able to advance and later, dominate world trade. Europe today is one of the most wealthiest places in the world (they have 66% of the world s wealth, according to Ferguson). They were able to achieve such power and wealth because of the way European towns were ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

CC obtained her master degree in computer science from Virginia Tech in 2004 and works as a software engineer at Xetreme Websites at Kensington, Maryland. She is married and has 2 kids, 7 and 5 years old. CC lives in our community and we knew each other at the block party last August. She has been noticing worsening back pain over the past 2 years. The most comfortable area was her educational and living style because that s what she really like to talk about. The least comfortable area was the uncertainty of the future because she has to adjust her workload due to her physical condition. When I shared the back issues my wife encountering and what we are doing on it; I can see she felt much relaxed and talked about her symptom much easier. In terms of communication techniques, I used active listening, clarification, reassuring and summarization. The most effective skill I found was that to let the patient tell you what s are their concerns, and do not cut off their stories. Evaluation From the beginning I explained why I needed an interview and how I can protect her information confidentially. It was a relaxed and respectful conversation; we communicated easily and had eye contacts attentively. I opened the conversation by asking how she was doing? She started talking about her family, life and work. I was an active listener, allowed sufficient time sharing her experience before asking follow up questions to explore in depth medical and psychosocial concerns. My strengths were kind, respect and caring attitude; I also paid much attention to details. The area for improvement including verbal skills and body language, my body was not ... • 4. Production Overheads Based On Direct Labour Hours Essay Costing At present PC4U apportions its production overheads based on direct labour hours. With a range of products available and opportunity for customising these products individually to meet the retailer s needs, this report aims to assess the effectiveness of this traditional method of allocating production overheads. It will discuss the drawbacks of the current approach used by PC4U, as well as an alternative approach in the Activity Based Costing system, which is intended to overcome the weakness of the traditional method by having various pools of costs and then allocating each pool s costs on the basis of its root cause. (Averkamp 2007) As well as comparing the benefits and drawbacks of these costing systems to determine what recommendations should be given regarding the approach PC4U should adopt, the report shall also discuss the impact an activity based management system may have on the company. The current method of apportioning production overheads based on direct labour hours can be described as a traditional approach to product costing. In a manufacturing company s financial statements, each item produced must be allocated some of the production overheads to make the statements compliant. Sometimes the individual costs of these items can be calculated incorrectly based on overall production overhead and the system of allocating in place, however the overall financial statement can still be accurate. This traditional method of allocating the production ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Explain Why Did The Frankfurt Parliament Fail Why did the Frankfurt parliament fail? Throughout the 1840 s many German states were under pressure from liberal demonstrators and nationalists who wanted a revolutionary change and greater political representation. Those standing for a unified Germany recognised that a unified Germany with a constitution and election would be the most efficient way of securing their political freedom. However, German monarchs such as the king of Prussia, Frederick William IV feared that a united Germanyunder nationalists conditions would cause Germany to lose its power and influence in their land and territories. After the ferocious demonstration in not only Berlin in 1848 but also in other states and nations, the king agreed to draft a prussian constitution... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Frankfurt parliament failed to accomplish its goals, the attempt of creating a unified Germany through political reform did not work as it was intended to. One can argue that there are multiple reasons for why the parliament failed but the strength of the conservative forces, the divisions within the parliament and its inability to make decisions were significant causes as to why the parliaments weaknesses were overpowering and caused it to fail. One of the contributing factors to the failure of the Frankfurt parliament was the divisions within the parliament itself. The parliament was mainly built upon liberals in the middle class who happened to be males that had to be1 of a certain age as well as being economically stable, i.e it did not represent the people as a whole. This was a problem itself as only one of the classes was being represented, leaving the other two omitted which arguably caused problems within and outside of the parliament. The parliament arguably consisted of three different groups, the liberals who wanted to safeguard the rights of the central government and the individual rights, the radicals who wanted to replace the princes and form a unified republic and thirdly the conservatives who did not want the central government or ... • 6. Child Prostitution in Asia Child Prostitution in Asia In ancient times, children were viewed as smaller versions of adults. There was little perceptible difference between an adult and their younger counterparts. By the Middle Ages and up until the Renaissance, girls as young as twelve were still considered marriageable age. Sexualizing children was a form of their education and indoctrination into the world of adults. However, in the modern time, we have come to understand that children and childhood is a time for innocence and development. The historical adulteration of children was rightly seen as barbaric and archaic. Forcing children into adult roles can lead to a destructive adulthood. Physical and emotional abuse of children can destroy someone. Even worse is the type of abuse characterized by sexual activity and sexual interaction with children. The sexual abuse of children leads to abnormal development and an adult with severe mental problems, prone to violence and often continuing the chain of abuse into subsequent generations. Forcing a child to commit sexual acts before they are physically or mentally mature enough to handle it is the worst kind of crime. Yet, in nations all over the world, this kind of abuse not only occurs, but is a profitable business for perpetrators. Child prostitutionis illegal all over the world, but in some countries the laws against child prostitution and the use of underage people for sexual interactions are lax and often go unenforced. • 8. ADN VS.BSN Degree Essay examples Competency Differences between ADN and BSN Prepared Nurse Nursing education encompasses a vast continuum. Within the undergraduate subdivision, there are two preparatory levels of nursing education: Associates Degree in Nursing (ADN) and Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing (BSN). Although the underlying philosophies of patient centered care and compassion remain consistent between both degree levels, there are distinctions pertaining to clinical decision making and care delivery. Major differences in competency of critical thinking and problem solving skills, evidence based practice and clinical judgment, exist between nurses prepared at the associate degree level and baccalaureate degree level, thus... Additionally, the nurse develops skills in nursing administration and research in order to provide optimum health care for the patient and organization, thus carrying out expert assessment and evaluation (Forster, 2008). There are numerous studies depicting the correlation between the four year degree nursing education and improved patient outcomes. In the August 2008 edition of Health Services Research, Dr. Christopher Friese and associates identified a link between patient outcomes and nursing education level. They determined that moving to a nursing practice environment with a higher proportion of baccalaureate prepared nurses led to a significant decrease in the mortality of hospitalized cancer patients who underwent surgery. In addition to lowered mortality rates, patients also experienced lower failure to rescue rates. In a separate study published by the Journal of Advanced Nursing, researchers at the University of Toronto resolved that facilities with a greater number of BSN prepared nurses had lower 30 day mortality rates. For every 1,000 patients discharged, a 10% increase in the number of baccalaureate degree nurses resulted in 9 fewer deaths (Rosster, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 10. A Thousand Splendid Suns Character Analysis In A Thousand Splendid Suns and First They Killed My Father, we find the three female characters of Laila and Mariam, and Loung, respectively, in harrowing and dangerous political atmospheres. Both of the political atmospheres described in these two books expose these characters to harsh realities of war, abuse, starvation, and oppression; these characters must also come to terms with a rising body count around them. From Mariam s perspective, we hear that there was looting, murder, and, increasingly, rape, which was used to intimidate civilians and reward militiamen (Hosseini 253). Despite these despotic circumstances, and perhaps in spite of the physical toll they take, the three female characters of these books exhibit extraordinary perseverance as a result of their tumultuous surroundings. The most prevalent and threatening theme that each character experiences first hand, as a result of the dangerous political atmospheres they are exposed to, is starvation; we slowly see each character physically diminished throughout their stories. Loung describes vividly to readers, I can count every rib in my rib cage, but my stomach protrudes outward, bloated like a ball between my chest and hips (Ung 83). Similarly, Mariam recounts how starvation had ravaged Laila s daughter s body: Aziza s ribs began to push through the skin, and the fat from her cheeks vanished. Her calves thinned, and her complexion turned the color of weak tea. When Mariam picked her up, she could feel her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 12. Agendas, Alternatives, And Public Policy Author John Kingdon s book entitled Agendas, Alternatives, and Public Policy takes at look at Policy issues and examines how these policy issues became issues to begin with. Kingdon starts his book by looking into how policy issues come to the government s attention. He expresses to his readers that problems get identified when we focus on certain events or changes. Policy is taken over by researchers and bureaucrats, and the political aspect is dominated by members of the government. When these three come together, Problems, Policy and Politics, issues get on the decision agenda. In the first chapter of his book, Kingdon explains the point of his writing. He wants his readers to know why and how certain issues come to and overtake the government and decision agenda. He explains the difference between issues and alternatives. Issues are the vast areas of concern whereas alternatives are the specific ideas that could be implemented. He also makes a distinction between the government agenda and decision agenda. The government agenda includes subjects that people involved in government are aware of. The decision agenda only includes specific issues. These issues are made to discuss and take action on. Kingdon begins by examining the importance of various actors within the government. The actors in the administration include the President, Executive Office Staff, and Political Appointees. • 13. Rhetorical Analysis Of Public Thinking Danny Reyes Professor Crane RWS100 28 September 2015 Rhetorical Analysis of Public Thinking Journalist, Clive Thompson in his book, Smarter Than You Think , specifically in the chapter titled, Public Thinking , published on September 12, 2013, addresses the topic of technology and argues that because of the internet, we are doing more writing now than ever. Therefore technology is helping us think publicly in new and improved ways. He supports this claim by asserting that there is an improvement in our writing, which is happening because of the audience effect , he then goes on to say that anything we write changes the way we think, and finally he talks about how the internet builds connections, which is essential to the spread of new ideas. Thompson s purpose is to inform readers about how the internet is a tool being used to advance our society in order to encourage more people to partake in online, public thinking. He adopts a contemplative tone for his audience, the readers of The New York Times, and others interested in the topic of technology. It is my intention in this paper to analyze the author s subclaims and use of rhetorical strategies. In his article, Thompson claims that there is an audience effect which is causing an improvement in writing. While talking about the important aspects of the increase in online writing, Thompson states that, When you write something online whether it s a one sentence status update, a comment on someone s photo, or a ... • 14. The Rise Of Civilization And Ancient Civilizations The rise of civilization has always fascinated people. Since the appearance of anatomically modern human beings, some one hundred and fifty thousand years ago, the emergence of civilization has been one of the most important accomplishments of people. Civilization is defined as an organizing principle that implies common institutions, economic systems, social structures, and values that extend over space and time (Matthews 3). Some of the things that make up a civilization are religion, government, arts, writing and language, currency, study of science, math and medicine as examples. The two earliest known civilizations were Mesopotamia and Egypt. These two civilizations arose around the same time and coincidentally near one another, near the Mediterranean Sea. Many similarities and differences exist between these ancient civilizations. In particular, the religions of these two civilizations are distinguishably different, yet have many concrete similarities as well. The religions of Mesopotamia and Egypt are the products of the environment that the people lived in and their experiences living in it. Because of the harsh and unpredictable nature of their environment, the religion of the ancient people in Mesopotamia was very pessimistic. They lived only at the mercy of their gods, who they believed were of great power and controlled the environment. In ancient Egypt, contrastingly, nature was far more stable and predictable. It was thusly believed that the gods favored ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 16. Epic Of Gilgamesh Analysis In the Epic of Gilgamesh , it is easy to conclude that Gilgamesh, the protagonist of the story, is the hero. In Like Mayflies in a Stream , Gilgamesh is merely a scary person who appears in the story here or there rather than being the protagonist. Instead, Shamhat is the main person that the story focuses on, but the book is imprecise on one heroof the entire story. There are numerous characters that could reflect hero aspects such as going on a quest, having another to help guide them, or facing trials. Personally, I believe that there is no true hero in this story due to the nature that Shamhat is a woman, who were represented badly during this time, and that Shauna Roberts did not want to misrepresent the epic due to extreme... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This singular word, only , immediately tells us as a reader that they are looked down upon, are not as good as men, and are not as important to society. Along with this, many people call Shamhat a whore when her pregnant stomach begins to show. Women, and girls for that matter, as Nameshda was only 13, were raped by Gilgamesh. Shamhat is the older sister in her family, yet her younger brother Geshtu gets to make all of the decisions for the family. The scenarios in this book are contemplative of how women are viewed and treated compared to the men of society. Patriarchy is correct by their standards, and having women in any sort of important role is almost nonexistent. Due to this condescending view, we can understand why it would be difficult to have Shamhat as the hero in this story. If men are the superior ones, wouldn t it make sense to have a man as the hero? In the event that a woman was a hero in this story, it may make readers predict that the entire society will change their outlook on women by the end of the story. On the other hand, others may think that Roberts was trying too hard to modernize this epic. With this issue, Roberts could fear that creating this story with a female hero may be too contemporary and take away from the true epic. She already modernized the book somewhat by adding in a love triangle and happily ever after ending. Adding a female hero may just completely ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 18. The Age Discrimination On Employment Act Of 1967 The Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967 was established to provide fairness in the workplace for citizens over the age of 40. This law was intended to guard against employers using unscrupulous hiring practices and unfairly firing individuals without legitimate reasons. The Civil Rights Act was updated to fight discrimination based on sex, race, and religion, but never addressed the issue of age. Age related concerns arose during the 1960 s when the economy began to change rapidly in technology and scope. Many experienced professionals were being displaced or simply discriminated against, because it was believed that it was cheaper to hire and train inexperienced employees, or because it would save on pension expense that was due to personnel approaching retirement age. The Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967 provides security for older employees that have the competency to do work but are held in prejudice, because they are advancing in years. According to the West s Encyclopedia of American Law (2005), before the enactment of the Employment Act of 1967, it was a standard practice to fire a senior employee in order to give a promotion to a younger staff member. This practice supposedly saved the company money, because the wages of the newly promoted person were lower compared to the previous staff. In addition, this behavior promoted the idea within the business that the manager does not need any substantial justification to let staff members go. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The olive green trees were swaying in a gentle breeze and the river by the village was teeming with fish. A rainbow glowed against the blue sky, catching every villagers attention. The villagers of Shiveria had begun to assemble at the center of the villagewhere the annual lottery was being held. Because of the towns small population of 400 people, the lottery would probably take less than 3 hours. The children ran from their homes, as they had the day off from school because of the lottery. Bryan McCabe, a boy about 13, collected stones and filled up his entire backpack with them. When they reached the villagecenter, they placed all their rocks in a neat pyramid next to the broken down church. Behind everyone stood Mr. Krahzi, silently watching from the back. He had participated in the lottery for over 65 years, yet had never won again since his son Alex won 25 years ago. After his 14 year old son won, he realized the faults of the lottery and begged everyone to stop the tradition, but nobody listened. Everyone called him insane for wanting to stop the lottery and claimed he was betraying every tradition they had. • 20. Theobromine Research Paper Although discovered by A. Woskresensky in 1841, and synthesized by E. Fischer in 1882, theobromine can be traced back to ancient civilizations such as the Aztecs. With seven carbon, eight hydrogen, four nitrogen, and two oxygen atoms, theobromine s chemical formula is C7H8N4O2, and can be found in the beans of the cocoa plant, tea leaves, or kola nuts. From the hulls of the cocoa beans, theobrominecan be extracted, coming out to be a white powder. The largest supply of these cocoa beans, more than 70% of them, originates from western African countries, where they are harvested on plantations, and then packed and sold to chocolate companies. These companies will then sell the delicious treat for the public to enjoy in a plethora of ways. • 22. Guinea Worm Eradication Program ( Nigep ) Guinea worm has long been documented in Nigeria, yet despite the long term presence, there had been little effort to quantify the burden or to prevent the disease until the inception of the Nigerian Guinea Worm Eradication Program (NIGEP).6 NIGEP was developed with the goal of eliminating guinea worm cases in Nigeria. However, this program also aimed to better understand the full burden and distribution of the disease in Nigeria and to define a framework to begin to initiate prevention measures for the disease.6 The announcement of the inception of NIGEP in 1988 was quite bold due to the lack of data on the burden of guinea worm nationally and the lack of effort previously taken to prevent the disease in Nigeria. What might explain a seemingly rash decision by the Ministry of Health, is that a UNICEF sponsored study was released in 1987 documenting the high endemicity of guinea worm in Nigeria and the loss of agricultural productivity that the country was facing.3 Following this document, a Nigerian newspaper published a cover story on guinea worm and the need for eradication in the country.3 From there on the Nigerian mass media seemed to incorporate guinea worm into all modes of the media.3 Finally, the major push for the NIGEP occurred in 1989 when former United States President Jimmy Carter travelled to Nigeria to meet the military president of the country and the Sultan of Sokoto at an international conference in which the President of Nigeria, Ibrahim Babangida, ... KBE is a system or process which collects and stores and organizes this knowledge and makes it available in the reusable form by providing computational support to the design process. The need of KBE arouse due to problems in current knowledge structure, which is disorganized. Existing databases, designs, thumb rules, etc. are not maintained in order, which makes the reusability difficult. Current knowledge structure is not secure also, as the databases that are not prepared centrally are susceptible to changes by other designers and loose reliability. Capturing knowledge is essential, but capturing the knowledge that is not necessary would lead to confusion and decrease effective reusability. KBE systems solve all the problems which are indicated above. KBE allows designers to devote more time and effort in creative and the innovative work and makes design process simpler. KBE system automatically extracts the given necessary knowledge from every stage of design cycle, and makes this knowledge available for remaining design cycles. KBE system allows capturing and organization of knowledge in an efficient manner. With the application of KBE, it is possible to analyze the possibility of manufacturing any part, knowing whether design is optimal or there are other alternative solutions available based on the designer. • 25. The Effects Of Acid Rain On Plants Abstract Acid rain is a current issue due to the potential danger it could pose to plant life in the case that it is harmful to plants. In this lab, it was determined whether or not acid water was harmful to red radish plants, and in doing so, established the possible effects of acid rain on plants. It was hypothesized that the acid would take all nutrients from the soil, therefore harming the plants. In this lab, three plants two experimentals and one control were monitored after receiving either acid water or tap water. After the experiment was conducted, it was plain to see that the plants were affected negatively by the acid water, as the plants to receive the acid water immediately showed symptoms of nutrient deficiencies, therefore proving the hypothesis. As such, acid rain was proved to be a danger to the environment, as it destroys nutrients in the soil, therefore killing the plants. Without efforts to minimize acid rain, it could potentially destroy the ecosystem. Introduction The purpose of this lab is to determine whether or not acidic water affects the growth of red radish plants. Vinegar with a similar acidic pH as acid rain was used to water plants to simulate the effects of acid rain which is a current problem.. The pH used was 3.5. In comparison, the tap water was a pH of 7, a neutral liquid. By simulating acid rain and observing how the vinegar affects the plant, it will be possible to come to a conclusion about how acid rain may affect crops. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Ray Bradbury shows us in his two stories, The Veldt and Marionettes, Inc. that there is something we can t contend with; technology. In these stories the author shows us a world where people are distant because of and can t compete with technology. In Ray Bradbury s short story The Veldt he shows us a family that is so distant from each other because of technology. The Hadley family lives in a Happylife Home that does everything for them and the children depend on their nursery that has raised them their entire lives. Mr. David McClean comments to Mr. Hadley, You ve let this room and this house replace you and your wife in your children s affections. This room is their mother and father, far more important in their lives than real parents ( The Veldt 10). Children Wendy and Peter live in their own personal bubble because they don t have to rely on their parents for anything. The children rely so much on their nursery that it has replaced and made them so distant from their own parents. Technology has become the children s parents; their role model. The nursery has caused the family to become distant, but it s more than that, it s the entire house. The Successful Outcome Of The United Nations Essay The successful outcome of the United Nations 21st annual Conference of the Parties (COP21) raised hopes and expectations of concerted global efforts to tackle climate change, and brought forward a whole raft of questions: How will this affect the momentum behind the deployment of key renewable technologies and the drive for greater energy efficiency? Ample supply is keeping downward pressure on fossil fuel prices, coal, oil and natural gas. When and how will market dynamics change or might lower prices for some fuels be here to stay? The impact of local pollution, often energy related, on air quality is a matter of rising social and political concern in many countries. How can governments act to tackle this problem and what would these actions mean for the energy sector? The World Energy Outlook 2016 published by the International Energy Agency(IEA) is coming out in November and will shed some light on these questions with insightful analysis. In the meantime, there is one matter that everyone can agree on: for the near future, energy demand will continue to grow. How it is produced and used will be a critical factor in the future of the global economy, geopolitics and the environment. Whether it be about the world or your country, there will always be something you do not know. People automatically assume that it s a bad thing when certain information is kept away from society. But is it? I mean, censored material is censored for a reason! It s not a difficult concept to understand. Daily occurrences are often things that are seen on the internet as well as on TV. Do you really want to know about some of the events that happen on a daily basis? Events that could scar a person physically, emotionally, and psychologically? Events that would be deemed inappropriate for certain ages? Or what about actions that could be repeated again negatively? No one wants to live in a country like North Korea; however, some action is necessary. North Korea has censored much of their country, specifically, the internet. Different aspects of speech are removed, including hate speech. The case is similar to different countries as well. In Canada, judges can deem what hate speech is and have it removed from the internet (Brandon Gaille). Though the character of Oedipussuggests that women are equal, the issue of the true role of women is brought up in the poem, and is raised in Sophocles play. The female who plays the largest role in Sophocles play is Oedipus wife and mother, Iokaste. From the beginning, one can assume that she has little say in the events of her life. Now I, having the power that he held before me, having his bed, begetting children there, upon his wife, as he would have, had he lived their son would have been my children s brother, if Laios had had luck in fatherhood! A similar instance occurs in the third scene when Choragos says, It is this very place, stranger; he is inside. This is his wife and mother of his children. Instead of presenting Iokaste as the queen of Thebes, Choragos introduces her as belonging to Oedipus and as the bearer of Oedipus offspring. The insignificance and expectations of women in society are further presented in the Exodus. In the Exodus, Oedipus says, As for my sons, you need not care for them. • 41. Key Variables Related To Juvenile Delinquency 1.Introduction Juvenile delinquency has been an emerging problem, involving much interest from researchers around the world. In Robinson et al. (2015), juvenile delinquency can be defined as committing any criminal offense, diagnosis of conduct disorders, substance use, or significant behavioral problems at home or in the school. Painter (2010) stated, The National Advisory Mental Health Council Work group on Child and Adolescent Mental Health Intervention Development and Deployment (2001) reported that an estimated 36% of youth involved in the juvenile justice system nationally became involved due to inadequate or unavailable mental health services, and that children living in poverty are at a higher risk of not receiving appropriate, adequate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Juvenile delinquency is a significant issue that lacks understanding and research needs to be done to find possible factors, such as SES, that may play a role in the effectiveness of treatment outcomes. An important shortcoming of the existing research is the lack of studies that examine the data on delinquent outcomes to consider the possible impact of socioeconomic status (SES). In Tiernan et al. (2015), they determined that demographic factors such as socioeconomic status have been related to treatment outcomes in evidence based treatment. Research suggests that clinicians should pay more attention to factors interfering with progress in cases with delinquent youth (Tiernan et al., 2015). Importantly, none of these studies have examined the roles of socioeconomic status in the perspective of understanding MST treatment efficiency (Robinson et al., 2015). The purpose of the current study is to explore how effective Multisystemic therapy is on juvenile delinquency with low, middle, and high ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings, By Maya Angelou In I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings, by Maya Angelou, Maya learns just how critical books are to everyone and learns to be dependent on them over other people because while everything around her is changing, books, writing and literature are always there to be her friend. Everything Maya was dependent on, before she discovered books, (her mother, Momma, Bailey, her family, her educators and her home) are so unstable throughout the whole book that she can not depend on them. However, through all of that, books are always there and they are critical to her. Maya Angelou writes As quickly as I had not reached my home, I sneaked away to Robin Hood s forest and the caves of Ally Oop where all reality was unreal and even that changed everyday (Angelou, 70) which states that, as Maya arrives to her house, she realizes it s not her home. As upsetting as that sounds, she immediately turns to books which make her feel better so quickly. This quote directly shows that it does not matter to Maya if, in a sense, she is homeless as long as she has her books and that is very important. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But for the will of the people to be so expressed, realised and formulated, there needs to be a well organized system which works together, jointly as well as separately for ultimate achievement of the goal, which in a democracy would be to help people realise their will, express that will and help the people to formulate the ideas as to what is right for society and be part of what would then become ideally, a true and well functioning democracy. ... Natural law refers to the use of reason to analyze human nature, both socially as well as personally and to deduce binding rules out of morality and moral behaviour out of them. Locke believed that there should be a separation of powers whereby there would a legislative body which has the ultimate power of making laws, he believed that the legislative authority should be given such power, because the members of such legislative authority are elected by the people who will be the guardian of the natural laws that he holds dear and as his first and foremost priority. John Locke believed that there should be a separation of powers, but rather than the tri partite system as we know today, he believed in a bi partite system of governance that included just the executive and the legislature, the legislature being in this case the law making body, whereas the executive would be the king on the monarchy who could exercise judicial powers. John Locke was questioned by certain other philosophers of government policy on how there could be an executive who is a monarch who has an absolute power alongside a democratic legislature which makes their own laws which are the representative of the will of the society in general, ... • 44. The Model Of Racial Equality In certainty, the model of racial equality has not always been performed, nor has it been fully accomplished in the world. This is because the acceptance in racial equality has been said to counter deeply rooted beliefs in racial inequality and political, legal, and customary practices of racial discrimination and oppression. Therefore, racial equality is stated in antiracist philosophy and in antiracist political mobilization. With this said, as citizens, are we still equal? The answer to that question is no . The world is living in Orwellian times where citizens are equal, but some citizens are more equal than others. While some agree, there are many groups that are pushing for reform and equality, such as Take Back Our Republic, By The People, and Common Cause: Holding Power Accountable. Now that the facts are said, we must ask how did we become so unequal? Over time, big corporations, racial groups, and corruption in government have been advocating inequality for the minority. Some people are filled with wrong ideas and beliefs that attack those in the minority group, especially people of color. Franklin said, almost from the beginning of their national history, people have been relentless, at times ruthless, in their pursuit of equality. Nearly fifty years ago, Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his I Have a Dream speech, a clarion call for the end of racial discrimination in the United States. Consequently, there has never been an attempt at unionising within the company and this is partly due to there not being a need. When workers are not being exploited, there is no need for them to fight back. James Lincoln was the son of a congregational minister and his Christian values were a guiding principle in his managerial decisions. When viewing his employee policies, we can see the golden rule at work. The needs of employees at every level are thoughtfully considered and aligned with the needs of the company. More than that, the customer is also given great consideration and the creation of products with real value is given providence over marketing or advertising. There is a genuine commitment to creating real worth rather than short term profits. James treats both the customers and the employees with respect and dignity, creating a culture is that is people oriented. The only people involved in the business that are not see as important are the shareholders. They are not actively involved in the business and their interests are therefore seen as the least important. This attitude may have protected Lincoln from a gradual change toward a more aggressive or sales oriented culture. On rare occasions, a tale mirrors real life in such a way that one is strangely comforted by the normalcy reflected in the words. A perfect example of a story about ordinary life that will soothe the soul in search for some insight on understanding the human behavior is Anton Chekhovs The Lady with the Pet Dog. After becoming acquainted, Anna and Gurov walked and talked of the strange light on the sea: the water was a soft, warm, lilac color and there was a golden band of moonlight upon it (Chekov 507). Later, when he is alone in his hotel room, Gurov reflects on her slim, delicate throat, her lovely gray eyes (Chekov 507) and his thoughts reveal that he has determined this young, vulnerable woman to be an ideal candidate for another one of his many affairs that he just cannot help becoming involved in. And as the story unfolds, the color gray reveals itself as an integral component in the sort of comfortable, yet, unresolved feeling that the relationship between Gurov and Anna emanates. Finally, when things are heating up between the two lonely travelers, so is the weather, which was close indoors, while in the street the wind whirled the dust about (Chekov 507) and their thirst is unrelenting no matter what they eat or drink to quench it. One did not know what to do with oneself (Chekov 507), seemingly, with the desire for one another that is beginning to blossom. On this particular evening, the couple makes way for the pier to watch the incoming ship. A crowd of people have gathered with many bouquets of flowers to greet arrivals.
