Target Audience Profile
• My target audience for my FMP project is teenagers
ages 16-19. This is to narrow it down to people a
similar age to me .
• I don’t have a specific gender in mind for this
particular project it is aimed for as anyone can suffer
with mental illnesses, which is the basis of my
‘Choose your own Adventure’ short film project.

YouTube are quite a popular form of
media on the website, especially for
highly subscribed, popular youtubers like
Markiplier, Jacksfilms and CINEMATTOX.

My short film is going to have a similar
setup as to this with the elements of
choice affecting the story throughout the
whole of the narrative and choices that
you had made at the start, come back
around and affect the ending. There are
multiple different endings to this (5 main
endings) and each one is distinct from
each other but depending on what
choices you made before, there are small
differences between versions of the same
ending, proving that every choice has its
small consequences in the long run.
Bandersnatch:
Existing Product
This short film is actually based on the
Bandersnatch show on Netflix but this
shows setup is formatted via YouTube. The
choices are easily shown on the screen so
the audience can choose them. The actors
also actively ask you for your choice,
breaking the forth wall, which I think is a
cool thing to add. I like this show as it
involves the camera setup that I would like
to have in my short film. It uses a first
person camera throughout the videos to
put you in the shoes of this person and this
is what I would like to do with my videos.

Research Analysis
• What common features do the researched products
have?
– The main similarity between the products I have researched is that they are
both heavily based on the element of choice and how that choice can affect
the events following it.
• What aspects of the research will you include
within your on work?
– I will use the narrative flow of Bandersnatch as I would like my project to be
about someone's daily life.
– I will use the first person camera shots of A Heist with Markiplier as it will
put you in the shoes of the main character and it is one of the lesser used
camera angles because of the complexity of filming it.

• Over half of the people who took
the survey are in the age range 16-
19. This is the ideal age range for
this project as I want it to be
targeted for people around my age
range. I want to make a ‘choose
your own adventure’ based project
so it would fit well with an age
group that has to make big choices
in their lives.

• In this survey, it is quite an even
spread of what gender completed it
but the majority is people who are
feminine or don’t identify in the
binary system. I will try to appeal to
these more in my project but the
main character will have a neutral
gender so it can appeal to everyone.

• People in the survey wanted this
project to be 3 minutes long and
above as the majority. I will try to
make the total length of the project
be this long but also to appeal to
the other people who wanted it to
be shorter, I will have it split in
individual videos compared to one
long video.

• A very high majority of those who
answered the survey watch these
short films on YouTube compared to
other video platforms. This means
that I will base my choosing feature
off of how it is set up on YouTube. I
will either edit the videos to make it
look like there is a choice or I will
actually give the viewer the ability
to choose their own path.

your own adventure'
genre?
• I gave a few suggestions for what people liked about this
genre I am planning to do and also a box to write their own
answers. The highest of the four were the different endings
and the element of choice so I will definitely include these
in my final project

• I gave the same suggestions as the previous question on
the survey and also the option to write their own answers.
Some people did write their own for this compared to the
previous one. The most common thing people would like to
see improved is the characters and the storyline. I will also
focus on the custom written ones too as they are from a
personal source.
What could be better
about 'Choose your
own adventure'
videos?
- Just making sure that the choices are actually
realistic and make an impact on the ending
- navigation (easy way to keep track of where
you are in the story and previous choices)

• I would like to use the setup of
YouTube to host my ‘Choose your
own adventure’ videos as I know the
setup well. The majority of people
know the setup of YouTube choices
from a viewers point of view. This
makes sure they will know how to
use the feature and heighten the
choice element of this project.

• Everyone who took this survey knew
something about mental health and
the majority of them knew most
things about it. This means that I
can show a realistic representation
of what it is actually like to have it
and not an exaggerated version of
what people assume it is like.

• I chose a few options of mental illness for what I have some
knowledge of and I am comfortable filming about. The
highest of the five were Anxiety and ADHD so I will have my
overall theme showing what it is like to live with one of
these, possibly even both if I can have the narrative make
sense with both. If not, I will choose whichever of the two I
may find easier for me to write a storyline about.

  • 3. Target Audience Profile • My target audience for my FMP project is teenagers ages 16-19. This is to narrow it down to people a similar age to me . • I don’t have a specific gender in mind for this particular project it is aimed for as anyone can suffer with mental illnesses, which is the basis of my ‘Choose your own Adventure’ short film project.

Existing Product My short film is going to have a similar setup as to this with the elements of choice affecting the story throughout the whole of the narrative and choices that you had made at the start, come back around and affect the ending. There are multiple different endings to this (5 main endings) and each one is distinct from each other but depending on what choices you made before, there are small differences between versions of the same ending, proving that every choice has its small consequences in the long run.   • 7. Existing Product This short film is actually based on the Bandersnatch show on Netflix but this shows setup is formatted via YouTube. The choices are easily shown on the screen so the audience can choose them. The actors also actively ask you for your choice, breaking the forth wall, which I think is a cool thing to add. I like this show as it involves the camera setup that I would like to have in my short film. It uses a first person camera throughout the videos to put you in the shoes of this person and this is what I would like to do with my videos. A Heist with Markiplier:

Research Analysis • What common features do the researched products have? – The main similarity between the products I have researched is that they are both heavily based on the element of choice and how that choice can affect the events following it. • What aspects of the research will you include within your on work? – I will use the narrative flow of Bandersnatch as I would like my project to be about someone's daily life. – I will use the first person camera shots of A Heist with Markiplier as it will put you in the shoes of the main character and it is one of the lesser used camera angles because of the complexity of filming it.
  • 10. Audience research • Over half of the people who took the survey are in the age range 16- 19. This is the ideal age range for this project as I want it to be targeted for people around my age range. I want to make a ‘choose your own adventure’ based project so it would fit well with an age group that has to make big choices in their lives. Age range?
  • 11. Audience research • In this survey, it is quite an even spread of what gender completed it but the majority is people who are feminine or don’t identify in the binary system. I will try to appeal to these more in my project but the main character will have a neutral gender so it can appeal to everyone. Gender?
  • 12. Audience research • People in the survey wanted this project to be 3 minutes long and above as the majority. I will try to make the total length of the project be this long but also to appeal to the other people who wanted it to be shorter, I will have it split in individual videos compared to one long video. What length short film would you watch?
  • 13. Audience research • A very high majority of those who answered the survey watch these short films on YouTube compared to other video platforms. This means that I will base my choosing feature off of how it is set up on YouTube. I will either edit the videos to make it look like there is a choice or I will actually give the viewer the ability to choose their own path. What do you watch short films on the most?

Audience research What do you like about the 'Choose your own adventure' genre? • I gave a few suggestions for what people liked about this genre I am planning to do and also a box to write their own answers. The highest of the four were the different endings and the element of choice so I will definitely include these in my final project
  • 15. Audience research • I gave the same suggestions as the previous question on the survey and also the option to write their own answers. Some people did write their own for this compared to the previous one. The most common thing people would like to see improved is the characters and the storyline. I will also focus on the custom written ones too as they are from a personal source. What could be better about 'Choose your own adventure' videos? - Just making sure that the choices are actually realistic and make an impact on the ending - navigation (easy way to keep track of where you are in the story and previous choices)
  • 16. Audience research • I would like to use the setup of YouTube to host my ‘Choose your own adventure’ videos as I know the setup well. The majority of people know the setup of YouTube choices from a viewers point of view. This makes sure they will know how to use the feature and heighten the choice element of this project. Do you understand the format of a ‘Choose your own adventure’ video on YouTube?
  • 17. Audience research • Everyone who took this survey knew something about mental health and the majority of them knew most things about it. This means that I can show a realistic representation of what it is actually like to have it and not an exaggerated version of what people assume it is like. How much do you know about mental health?
  • 18. Audience research • I chose a few options of mental illness for what I have some knowledge of and I am comfortable filming about. The highest of the five were Anxiety and ADHD so I will have my overall theme showing what it is like to live with one of these, possibly even both if I can have the narrative make sense with both. If not, I will choose whichever of the two I may find easier for me to write a storyline about. What side of mental health should I focus on?
