Thursday Assure
A. Analyze Learners---Students are 11th
graders in an advanced placement U.S. History course.
These students are 16 to 17 years old. There are 10 male students and 12 female students. Of
those students 7 are Hispanic, 5 are transfer students from England, and 10 Caucasian. Some
students are kinesthetic learners while others are visual.
S. State Objectives---Students will recognize and describe key battles during the revolutionary
war through exploration of museums through second life, as they will create an avatar and take a
picture of them at the museum. They will then gather information about the war through
collaboration and exploration of Facebook and Twitter Pages and lastly looking at a Website
about key battles of the war. This information will reinforce prior knowledge and provide a
foundation of information that will lead up to the war itself with 90% accuracy within the school
day.
S. Select Methods, Media, Materials---The methods used for this day will be based on
exploration and projects via Secondlife, Facebook, Twitter and the Website All Things Liberty.
Materials needed will be access to the interne, and Facebook, Twitter and Secondlife accounts.
U. Utilize Media and Materials--- After initial review of Wednesda via discussion, students will
be assigned to work on their projects through Secondlife, Facebook, Twitter and the website All
Things Liberty. Desks will be set up in a circle or group setting to allow group participation and
discussions.
R. Require Learner participation---Students will be required to be involved with their projects
and encouraged to work collaboratively as well as encouraged to ask questions about anything
interesting or confusing to the individual. Participating in these projects will allow students to
have a variety of methods to help learn the material. Lastly, students will take screenshots of
their exploration and write a discussion of their research through Facebook, Twitter and other
online sites. Projects assigned will be assessed to look at application.
E. Evaluate and Revise---To assess the students I will observe each students input through their
written discussions and observe the assigned projects to observe the students’ application. I will
informally interview the students to see how much information is being retained and review what
students struggled with. Students should have their projects mostly completed and see me for
revision or help before Friday.
