This proposal outlines a short film project titled "STM (small town mentality)". The project will explore how being a creative individual in a small northern town can be an advantage or disadvantage. It will profile 4 individuals, their work, how they got started, and their perspectives on living in a small town. The film will use narration and some dialogue. Inspiration will come from graphic art and rap music videos from the late 1990s/early 2000s known for a similar style. The project will be evaluated based on audience feedback on Instagram to gauge if the small town element was effectively conveyed. Positive feedback would lead to continuing similar work and adding the project to portfolios.

Project proposal title and date:
STM (small town mentality)
Main area of activity:
Short film
Rationale: 100 words approx.
My first project was a video that uses similar techniques and styles I want to use for this one. I
found in the first project I didn’t plan effectively which meant in edit I was slightly bewildered by all
my shots. For this project I will plan every little detail and ensure that in production I can work
smoothly without having to change the overall concept.
Project Concept: 200 words approx.
My project is a short film outlining creative individuals and how they find operating in a small
northern town is an advantage or disadvantage. It will cover 4 individuals and what they do, how
they got into it and finally how they feel about doing so in a little town. The films main factual info
will be spoken in narration, with small contextual dialogue coming from certain video clips. I will
research videos from the early 2000s era that cover similar topics. ‘1up’ is a very poular graffiti art
media company and they have basically the exact look I want to go for with their videos, so im
going to look into lots of them. Also early rap videos from london in the late 90s/early 200s are big
inspirations.
How will the project be evaluated and reviewed: 50 words approx.
I want to evaluate the work mainly with audience responses. I will upload the final video to my
instagram which has a large following of people interested in my personal creative work already so
imagine I will get more than enough feedback. I will ask those who take interest weather they think
I covered the small town element to the video, as that’s the real message I want to convey. If all
goes to plan and they like it, I will continue to produce products like this and definitely add it to my
portfolio for uni/jobs.
