Report
 The PAR is utilized by the incident
commander at specific time intervals, or as
incident conditions demand such as going
from offensive to defensive strategies,
collapse, or mayday.
 When a PAR is requested the reply should
include the unit ID, if the unit has a PAR,
the unit’s current location and assignment.
 “Engine 1 has a PAR, division 2 Alpha/Bravo
corner, checking for extension.”

 Accountability involves a personal
commitment from everyone on the
fire ground to work within the
safety system at an incident.

make a radio transmission that includes

42. Fast Attack Mode (FAM)
 FAM is the command operation where the first
due company officer handles command while
working as part of a company.
 This lasts a short duration and involves
directing three or four companies at the scene
until relieved by an on scene chief or district
officer.
 “Engine 40 is on the scene of a large two story
residential dwelling, smoke showing from the
second floor side Alpha. Engine 40 will be
Compton command in the fast attack mode,
this is an offensive fire.”

43. FAM
 Engine 40 now has all the command
responsibilities until he is assisted by a
responding chief or district car that can
operate from a fixed location.
 “Engine 40 to Quint 96, upon your arrival I
need you to conduct a search of the first
floor.”
 A company officer operating in the FAM
mode is instrumental to the initial
organization of the emergency.

44. FAM Command Transfer
 Once a command officer arrives on scene, he/she
will advise the FAM officer of their arrival and state
the current assignments to the FAM officer for
confirmation:
8302:“8302 to Compton command, I have Engine 40
with fire attack and Quint 96 with search, is this
correct?”
Engine 40: “Engine 40 affirmative.”
8302:“8302 is clear, I’ll go ahead and assume command
from here.”
 At this point command of the incident has been
handed off to 8302, who will announce this change
on fire primary.
