Preparing for the interview
Before the interview:
• research the company and its competitors.
• identify your skills and knowledge.
• identify where you may need to develop your skills and knowledge.
• prepare two or three questions to ask during the interview.

The interview
Do:
• be prepared to answer
questions about the company
and the job role
• be prepared to answer
questions about your CV,
covering letter or application
form
• listen to the question being
asked and take your time to
answer.
 Don’t:
• ignore the question that
you have been asked and
try to move onto a different
topic
• answer questions with ‘I
don’t know’
• slouch or use inappropriate
language.

Training in businesses
On-the-job:
Where employees are trained at work to complete a
task which is part of their job.
Off-the-job:
Where you are sent to a place of training to
complete a course which will develop your skills or
knowledge with the help of someone outside the
business.

Career development plans (1)
There are different sources of information which you
should use to plan your career development.
• Sources of information include:
o government and employment agencies
o careers advice services
o advertisements
o friends and families
o careers fairs
o teachers/tutors
o previous employers.
