Rhetorical Analysis Of Ezra Pound s His Philosophy And...
Ezra Pound was one of the most famous and influential figures in the Modernist literature
movement. Make it new was his philosophy and the rallying cry for Modernist literature. Whilst the
Modernists tried to capture the new by a persistent experimentalism , it rejected the traditional
(Victorian and Edwardian) framework of narrative, description, and rational exposition in poetry
and prose . Modernist literaturenot only rejected the old in terms of form, but also in subject matter
Modernismbegan to focus more on the self, on the internal dialogue. Whilst Post Modernism is
much harder to define, one thing that is prolific in Postmodern literature is the re working and
imitation of the past in the form of parody and pastiche. What I find interesting is that whilst
Modernist were driven by the desire to create something new, they were mostly benighted
traditionalists that were reacting to the change around them. The Postmodernists however, were not
lamenting change but using literature in a way that hoped to stimulate it. I am going to look at this
with a specific focus on The Waste Land by T.S. Eliot and The Crying Lot of 49 by Thomas
Pynchon.
Of course neither Modernist Literature nor Postmodernist literature existed in a vacuum. They were
both parts of wider movements as a whole The Modernist movement and the Postmodernist
movement. The Modernist period occurred during a time of great change rapid industrialisation and
new media which disrupted the class

Eva Peron Essay
Evita: The Real Life of Eva Peron
Evita: The Real Life of Eva Peron by Nicholas Fraser and Marysa Navarro is a life story of one of
the popular political figures in the recent Latin American history. Eva Peron is among the most
controversial women in the modern history and a significant Latin American political figure, has
also been portrayed as a cultural symbol through movies and popular music over the last decades.
The biography exposes Eva Peron s real humanity, and it does not only focus on her achievements
but also her failures and eccentricities.
Fraser and Navarro s book carries the life of Peron from birth to death in a chronological sequence.
The first chapter of the biography gives the details of Peron s family survival on the ... Show more

Marysa Navarro and Nicholas Fraser, however, maintain that there is no record of Magaldi
performing in Junin in the year 1934.
The Peronist version of Evita s participation in crisis placed her in the traditional Argentine woman
s role. Evita was depicted as a supportive and a faithful wife even in Peron s darkest hour. The
opposition s version was that it was Evita who resisted Peron s arrest and led the organizing his
release. On the surface, Evita s role description by the opposition appear to have some positive
qualities, they also had negative connotations that were disparaging both to Evita and her husband.
The actions of Evita taking the role assigned to Peron, she emasculates him and reveal her
masculinity.
Nicholas Fraser and Maryssa Navarro recognize the negative connotations of Evita s portrayal in
the Argentine context. This element alerts the reader to the meaning of the current Latin
fascination with Eva Peron. One the surface Evita seems to be a strong woman who is a role
model to others, but Both actors reveal her real self and attack her character of a woman who
leaves her traditions. Until the publication by Fraser and Navarro, Evita had been viewed as an
uneducated, obscure and a vulgar woman who used men to climb the gutter. She is depicted as a
scheming woman who manipulated herself into her powerful

Japan Baseball History
The sport of baseball was not established until the late 1800 s. The sport was not played at the
collegiate or even pro level until the early 1900 s. Whenever the first colleges started playing
baseball, there were two colleges that aided in the help to form the Tokyo Big Six University
League: Keio and Waseda. There was also a high school championship that occurred in Osaka,
which helped spark the love of baseballacross the nation. The country of Japan didn t have a
professional team at this time, but there was one thing that caused them to change their minds. The
United Statesteam was touring from country to country which eventually led them to stop in Japan.

This team also toured the United States, and later went on to be named the Tokyo Giants. This
team, along with seven other teams made up what was then called: The Japanese Baseball
League. Around 1950, the Nippon Professional Baseball League (NPB), was divided into two
different leagues: the Pacific League and the Central League. Each of these leagues were made
up of six teams that played each other up until the Japan Series, as well as the All Star game.
Despite the many athletes that Japan has, not very many of them went on to play in the Major
League. One major factor that kept Japanese players from playing in the Major League during this
time was World War II. The Japanese players felt that they shouldn t leave their country during that
time of turmoil, so many of them turned down contracts to play in the majors. Another reason
many of them stayed to play in Japan was the contracts that many of them had with the NPB.
Around 2000, the NPB and MLB worked out the differences, in order for Japanese players to play
in the MLB without there being consequences because of their NPB

Essay on Oedipus Rex s Moral Responsibility
Conscience, in modern usage, term denoting various factors in moral experience. Thus, the
recognition and acceptance of a principle of conduct as binding is called conscience. In theology
and ethics, the term refers to the inner sense of right and wrong in moral choices, as well as to the
satisfaction that follows action regarded as right and the dissatisfaction and remorse resulting from
conduct that is considered wrong. In earlier ethical theories, conscience was regarded as a separate
faculty of the mind having moral jurisdiction, either absolute or as a representative of God in the
human soul.

Lonely and homeless, Oedipus arrived at Thebes, which was beset by a dreadful monster called
the Sphinx. The frightful creature frequented the roads to the city, killing and devouring all
travelers who could not answer the riddle that she put to them: What walks on four legs in the
morning, on two legs at noon, and on three legs in the evening? The answer was a human being,
who in infancy crawls on all fours, in adulthood walks upright on two legs, and in old age uses a
cane. When Oedipus solved her riddle, the Sphinx killed herself. Believing that King Laius had
been slain by unknown robbers, and grateful to Oedipus for ridding them of the Sphinx, the
Thebans rewarded Oedipus by making him their king and giving him Queen Jocasta as his wife.
For many years the couple lived in happiness, not knowing that they were really mother and son.
Then a terrible plague descended on the land, and the oracle proclaimed that Laius s murderer
must be punished. After he made king, Oedipus takes it upon himself to rid Thebes of the plague
by finding Laius murder.(p311/ln.104) Oedipus soon discovered that he had unknowingly killed
his father. In grief and despair at her incestuous life, Jocasta killed herself, and when Oedipus
realized that she was dead and that their children were accursed, he put out his eyes and
relinquished the throne. He lived in Thebes for

Time to Reduce Nuclear Dangers by Garwin and Gronlund
According to the Arms Control Association, as of 2013 there was roughly 15,494 deployed and
non deployed nuclear warheads between the five nuclear weapon states. The argument of
whether or not nuclear weapons should be reduced in the United States is starting to arise.
Nuclear weapons have the power to kill millions of people and lots of land. This is an issue that
can t be ignored. Nuclear weapons should be reduced in the United States because it s a danger to
the world and could ruin this Earth and eventually its people.
The United States can have fewer nuclear weapons without putting our nations security in
jeopardy. If we have just a little less nuclear power we could still have power over other
countries but not too much power. However, some may argue that having a lot of nuclear
weapons on and keeps the United States safe from harm. Robert Spalding said, The U.S. nuclear
force exists to keep a threshold on the level of violence. While nuclear weapons are a useful source
of defense, it s still overdone to the point where it s too much. The Pentagon, the headquarters of the
United States defense, even thinks the nation should reduce its nuclear weapon number. Garwin
and Gronlund said in their article, According to news reports, the Pentagon has concluded that the
United States can meet its security needs with fewer deployed weapons perhaps 1,000. If our
country isn t using our extra nuclear weapons, we could afford to get rid of only 1,000 of them. As

Respect And Disrespect In Society
What is the definition of respect? Respect is defined as the quality or state of being esteemed
according to the Merriam Webster Dictionary. Society, thus far, has been based off of respect, but
in a world where respect has seemed to have begun to start disappearing; what exactly could
happen to society itself? Society can handle some disrespect but if disrespect begins to take
control, disrespect could very well become the new norm and lead to dangerous consequences
down the road.
Respect has been around since the dawn of the human race. Leaders have been granted respect
from making a tough decision in hard times to authoritative positions. Respect is not a trait that
has the capability to be gained overnight. Respect is a trait that can be wiped away from just one
mistake an individual makes. Leaders have a huge impact on society. For example, current
President Donald Trump, has received huge amounts of disrespect from decisions he has made
while in office or remarks he made on the campaign trail. This form of disrespect has huge
consequences on society. Society is not functioning in a healthy way due to examples like this.
This is not about whether an individual likes the President or not this is about showing respect.
When the youth see this form of disrespect, it lays the grounds for how the youth will teach their
children. Could society really function with this continuing growth of disrespect? I do not believe
society can survive if there is no more

Maya Angelou Similes
In Maya Angelou s Still I Rise, Angelou uses similes and the placement of her ideas to establish that
self esteem generates strength to resist humiliation. Angelou includes examples of society belittling
the speaker to establish their humiliation. Angelou follows the incidents and examples of
humiliation with similes that create images of elevation, to establish the speaker s strength to
continue after humiliation. Angelou uses similes to associate valuables with the speaker to
establish their self esteem. By placing an example of the speaker s self esteem between two
different displays of the speaker s strength, Angelou establishes the influence self esteem has on a
person s strength to continue after humiliation. Angelou s strategic placement of examples, which

Angelou uses the example of being stepped upon to establish the speaker s inferiority in society.
Angelou compares the speaker being stepped upon with society s oppression of the speaker.
Through the comparison, Angelou communicates society s humiliation and undignified regard of
the speaker. Angelou s comparison of a defeated person to the speaker establishes society s
expectation of the speaker. Using the image of a defeated person as a metaphoric comparison to
the speaker, Angelou conveys that society expects the speaker to be weak. Society s regard of the
speaker as weak and inferior is another form of humiliation and oppression. Through examples of
societal oppression, Angelou establishes the speaker s

How I Learned Throughout The Semester And Why It Helped Me...
My journey through this semester was very knowledgeable and interesting experience. From
learning about musical techniques and applying it to my songwriting process, it helped me become
a better songwriter. Throughout this reflection, I want to discuss the things I learned throughout the
semester and why it helped my as a songwriter.
Before taking this course, I used to just sing my songs, but never used to write them down.
Throughout, the course I learned that it s important to work on your songs even if it s working
on part of it. Taking time to improve you songs is already a step forward. Starting from lesson
two, I learned the importance of having a strong premise. I found this very useful because then
you have an idea of what your song is going to be about. You start thinking of emotion and
storyline you want to write in the lyrics. For example, if you premise is about heartbreak, then the
lyrics will be about a relationship, with maybe a sad piano accompaniment. Another interesting
thing I learned about lesson two was the articles we read about techniques for finding ways to be
inspired when writing a song. The article that was very useful was Finding Inspiration. From this
article, a technique that I found useful was to write music about yourself or experiences. I found
this to be a common thing for songwriters, according to the book we read In their Own Words,
which was very interesting to read, I found that most of the famous songwriters, for example Dolly

In this huge world everyone is unique. These unique individuals go through many mental stress,
trauma and bad experiences in life. Due to this some of them are not affected but many are
affected by psychological, mental or physical illness. So what would be explanation for this
happening? By resiliency we can explain this phenomenon in better way. In real life doctors are
also promoting this concept to examine this in every effected individual. In this article, I review
theoretical and by experimental studies by comparing no difficulty or high difficulty with people

Literature Review:
Resilience is a positive wave in terms of adversity, rather than to positive adaptation in general, It
surfaces in the face of hardship (Hawley, 2000, p 102) and also ability of an individual to come
back from hardship. Without struggle, resilience does not exist by Hawley.
To understand the resilience we need to understand the concept of stress. Stress is somewhat
subjective both in the measurement of severity and experience; the way in which individuals
perceive and interpret stressors may vary greatly (Bowes Jaffee, 2013). In this articles we found
that stress is the reason by which resilience occur.

Filippo Brunelleschi Accomplishments
One of the world s most famous architects and engineers was born in the Italian city state of
Florence sometime in 1377. Although he had a huge influence on building design and
construction, and on art, we don t know a lot about Filippo Brunelleschi s early life. Nonetheless,
he left buildings and artwork that still exist today, and he had two biographers who provided
information about his work, from these we can learn a lot about this Renaissance genius. His most
important work, the ll Duomo di Firenze (the Dome of the FlorenceCathedral), was finished in 1436
and remains as one of the greatest symbols of the period. Before he started building this
revolutionary structure, Brunelleschi studied the architecture of Roman buildings and monuments....

Filippo Brunelleschi invented new technology for the dome and created far more advanced
technology to help the dome be built. He began studying the science of motion and particular
weights, wheels, and gears and it lead him to invent some of the first alarm clocks, as well as
some of the equipment to raise the bricks from the ground to the roof (King, 13). In addition,
Brunelleschi also made sure that the dome was being built to his standard and it was going to
last a long time. For example, he inspected every one of the four million bricks that he was going
to use for the structure. Another important quality of the dome was the mortar used to hold the
bricks together. It was made by mixing sand and water with quicklime (King, 93). The quality of
the bricks and mortar was only the beginning. He worked out how to set the bricks for the
greatest strength to support the weight of the dome by having them set in a criss crossing
herringbone pattern (Mueller, 84). The brickwork was crucial because the bricks needed to make
up the dome without any outside support. In order to do this Brunelleschi linked the bricks in a
spiral going up to the top, called a herringbone pattern. The vertical bricks acted as book ends to
keep the horizontal bricks in place. The ll Duomo di Firenze was built to be an eight sided dome
that stood taller and stronger than others during that time period.

An Age Of Mass Migration And International Terrorism
In an age of mass migration and international terrorism, the intersection of liberty and equality
while also pursuing domestic security and efficiency is a major concern. The ability to untangle
these forces is critical to national identities and to resolving contradictions between these
principles in order to strengthen the values of justice. The values of liberty, equality, security and
efficiency have different weights, but all of these have come to characterize the modern state,
have guided the formation of domestic public policy and continue to constitute the criteria by
which policy success is judged. This paper aims to outline the national policy objectives and the
value oriented solutions of societal problems like the ones mentioned above. Since September 11
2001, the type of terrorist attacks which have emerged have begun to have major ramifications on
how states are able to aspire to the ideals of liberty, equality, security and efficiency. States have
changed the way they conduct policy and focus on efforts to face the challenge of how efforts to
increase security may have curtailed citizens liberties (Haubrich, 400). The anti terrorismstrategies
and tactics that democratic states have employed in order to neutralize terrorist threats have varied
widely. Some have been reactive, others proactive or preventative. However, all measures have
been concerned about the trust citizens have in those in power and the legitimacy of their rule as
well as protecting

The Pros And Cons Of Corruption
process of corruption is ever threatening. And when virtue has been corrupted, a heroic leader must
appear who in rebuilding the political order infuses this virtue into the entire citizenry. Montesquieu
saw corruption as the dysfunctional process by which a good political order is perverted into evil
one and a monarchy into despotism. According to Rosseau political corruptionis a necessary
consequence of the struggle for power. Then he argued that man had been corrupted by social and
political life. It is not the corruption of man which destroyed the political system but the political
system which corrupts and destroys man.
Corruption is a kind of behavior which deviates from the norm actually prevalent or behaved to
prevail in a given context, such as the political. It is deviant behavior associated with a particular
motivation, namely that of private gain at public expense. There have been a number of different
attempts at defining corruption. However no precise definition can be found which applies to all
forms, types and degrees of corruption, or which would be acceptable universally. According to
Oxford English Dictionary (OED) the term corruption in political context is defined as Perversion
or favor, the use or existence of corrupt practices, especially in a state, public corruption.
According to the vast knowledge of corruption, it can be gladly said that corruption can be defined
as the use of public office for private advantage. This definition is both

I was a stranger in a foreign country and I was surrounded by numerous people known to have

would eventually lead toward open conversations between enemies in an effort to better their

signify the importance of existentialism. To be more specific, the authors of Lord of The Flies,
Siddhartha, and The Stranger all created characters in which they question the purpose of life and
proceed to find answers through different means. In the novel Lord of the Flies, all of the boys
are isolated and free from supervision, and find themselves questioning how to continue their lives.
In Siddhartha, Siddhartha finds himself unhappy with his lifestyle and attempts to find a brighter
perspective on life to answer why life has a purpose. In The Stranger, Meursault constantly
struggles to find a purpose to life. In the end of the novel, when is about to be sentenced to death,
he finally shows what he believes is his reasoning for existing.... Show more content on

The author included many characters experiencing existentialist thoughts to show readers different
ways in which people are able to find a reason to be alive. In the beginning of the novel, many of
the boys were hopeless and lacked encouragement to the point where they all seemed to be
constantly arguing. They had lost the true meaning of life due to isolation and lack of supervision.
Many of them were dependent on others, but towards the end of the novel their true selves seemed
to be more evident. As time progressed through the novel, the boys were able to express their true
selves and became more independent. Independence was an asset for them retrieving their full
potential on the isolated

Persuasive Essay On Xbox
I like to casually play games on my Xbox 360. I ve been thinking to upgrade my living with a
new device. What would be the best and the cheapest option? Should you get Xbox One,
PlayStation 4 or PC? At first, I was thinking to buy PlayStation but at the end, I decided to build
a custom gaming PC. I will list some of the benefits of PCs over consoles and the process to
build cheap PC for gaming, Hardware price Game consoles are cheap if you compare the price to
a high end gaming PC. The earning logic behind consoles is to make the profit from game
selling and sell the consoles with lost. The gaming PCs sold by manufacturers like Asus or Dell
are usually high end devices with a high price tag. To compete with console price you can build
a custom gaming PC with almost the same cost. Gaming PC cost can be cut even further by
using used parts from eBay and other sites. Game prices Consoles have their own ecosystems
and user is limited to buy games through official channels usually through manufacturers online
game store. PC games have multiple channels where users can buy games with more competitive
price. Most popular is Valves Steam Online store. Valve makes buying games on PC as easy as on
consoles and Steam also has a large library of game titles. There is also games... Show more content

Analyzing The Demand Of The Bidders And Auction Results
Nyborg et al (2002) conduct their study by analysing the demand of the bidders and auction results
in Swedish Treasury auctions during uncertainty at the time of when the bidding occurs. They find
that bidders respond to uncertainty in three separate ways; as uncertainty increases, bidders reduce
the price levels at which they want to bid, they reduce quantity demanded and bidders also increase
bidding dispersion amongst the same bond. Nyborg et al also deem auction size to be a less
important factor than price uncertainty in how it influences the bidders behaviour even though as
the auction size increases, bidders increase their individual demands. They also suggest that
cautious bidding involves both a reduction in prices and a reduction... Show more content on

Ahmad and Steeley (2007) further examine a type of price discovery in the bond market review the
types of markets there are, i.e. primary or secondary bond market, by specifically examining the
secondary market. Their objective is to review the secondary market pricing behaviour of U.K bond
auctions by using an event study to test the statistical significance of auctions on the secondary
market bond prices. In their event study, they use the price movement that is associated with a level
change in the zero coupon yield curve as an appropriate benchmark.
Whilst running the regressions on the cumulative average abnormal returns (they refer to them
as CAR( x, x) ) they focus on three scenarios found in earlier yield drift testing, which takes place
during 6 days before the auction, on the auction day and up to 8 days after the auction (CAR( 6,
1), CAR(0,0) and CAR(+1,+8)). They find there is a negative average return in the post auction
period. They also find the most significant variables in explaining bond prices, from their
regression modelling, are the cover and size of the auction.
There is also a positive association between the cover variable and the pre auction CAR, which
means that the greater the demand for gilts at an auction, the greater the abnormal returns. Cover
and post auction CAR are negatively associated showing that the greater the excess demand at an
auction, the smaller the

Part 158 allows airports enplaning more than 2,500 passengers per year to charge passengers up
to $4.50 per each flight segment but not more than $18.00 per round trip ticket (Price amp;
Forrest, 2012). PFC funds are collected by the airlines, forwarded to the airports by the collecting
airlines, and must be expended by airports for projects directly related to safety, security, capacity,
noise reduction, and carrier competition enhancement (Price amp; Forrest, 2012).
The PFC program s history dates back to the 1970s. Prior to 1973, some airports would impose a
toll on enplaning or deplaning passengers, a practice known as per head taxes (Wells amp; Young,
2004). A 1972 Supreme Court ruling upheld the constitutionality of this practice in Evansville
Vanderburgh AirportAuthority District et al. v. Delta Air Lines, Inc. et al. (Wells amp; Young,
2004). However, in 1973, Congress passed the Anti Head Tax Act that prohibited airports from
imposing these per head tolls on enplaning or deplaning passengers (Wells amp; Young, 2004). By
1978, efforts to remove these anti head tax bans were moving forward, though this came with
counter efforts to prohibit airports that impose per head tolls from collecting any other federal
funding (Wells amp; Young, 2004).
In 1990, then Secretary of Transportation Samuel Skinner asked Congress to allow the imposition
of $3.00 PFCs in an extension of the Airport and Airway Improvement Act program (Wells amp;

Globalization And The Globalization Project
In this paper you will understand the shift of the development to the globalization project. In
doing so you will learn what globalization means as a project and as a process and why it is
described as being in crisis. Next you will learn about the financial and farming dimensions of the
problems confronting the globalization project. With that you will thirdly learn about how global
warmingpresents multiple challenges to globalization. I will also discuss the emergent
sustainability project , with particular attention to agricultural, green technology and environmental
movements. Lastly I will analyze how terrorism and the emergence of Trumpismo complicates all
of this.

The debt crisis transformed the development project into a globalization project. In 1997 Asian
financial crisis, exposed Indonesian military regime in social rebellion against cronyism and
neoliberal austerity, called IMF policies into question. During this crisis the IMF had worsened
the finical crisis because of speculator fear. (Mc Michael 282). In 1997 Asian financial crisis had
the government control half of their industrial assets, and invest in infrastructure. With this the
government was not capable of meeting a number of demands from private economic sector. The
free market economy was opposed to state move to increase the profit of the free market

market induced crisis in Argentina reveled the legitimacy crisis of the globalization project at the
same time it exposed ambiguities of sovereignty (Mc Micheal118). With this the market induced

crisis of globalization is as a manifested in both its material and failures and resistances.

Kennings In Beowulf Research Paper
Thesis: Beowulf offers an opportunity to learn about the literary elements of alliteration and
kennings, as well as what it means to be an epic hero.
The literary element of alliteration can be found engraved throughout Beowulf. While reading this
poem, one would learn that alliteration is the repetition of consonant sounds at the beginning of
words. Alliteration is used to emphasize words or images, enhance moods, and create a music like
tone. Beowulf, which was originally intended to be read aloud, contains alliteration to grasp and
engage the listeners ears. The practice of this literary element is seen on the first page when
reading So Hrothgar s men lived happy in his hall (Raffel 41). The repetition of the H sound
appeals to the audience, making for a more enjoyable reading experience. The evil Grendel s
killings are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The usage of kennings throughout Beowulf can be understood by a scholar, as a descriptive
phrase or compound word that substitutes for a noun. From reading Beowulf, one would come
to understand that kennings are used to describe objects into further detail. Some examples of
kennings used throughout Beowulf are mail shirt which means armor, sea road meaning the
ocean, mankind s enemy indicating Grendel, battle sweat meaning blood, mighty water witch
suggesting Grendel s mother, and sleep of the sword implying death (Raffel). As one can see,
the practice of using kennings is to indirectly, as well as creatively, name a person, place, or
thing. Kennings could also be understood by a reader as compressed metaphors, meaning they
have a logical implication with only one or two words. Beowulf is one of the first well known
writings to include kennings, which are now used in everyday dialect. These can also be
considered cliches. Because Beowulf is so greatly known for its usage of kennings, it makes for the
perfect poem to better understand this literary

Rise and fall of the First Persian Empire The First Persian Empire, also known as the

Control and Manipulation in A Rose for Emily and The...
In William Faulkner s A Rose for Emily and Charlotte Perkins Gilman s The Yellow Wallpaper, the
two main characters exhibit behavior that some readers may consider unusual or even totally crazy.
These two women are having a difficult time adjusting to the many changes taking place around
them. In the midst of these changes, they face the struggles of being women such as post partum
depression and love and rejection from men. Such problems become so overbearing that each
woman ends up in their own delusional world which in turn, leads to their isolation and insanity.
Genderissues, love, hate, insanity and isolation, are thematic connections in both stories and are

When the woman gets out of bed to investigate the wallpaper in the room, her husband says,
What is it, little girl? Don t go walking about like that you ll get a cold (319). His choice of words
of calling her a little girl belittles the woman and amplifies her feelings of being isolated, not
only physically, but emotionally. Since her husband is away most of the time and leaves her in
confinement, the woman immerses herself into studying the wallpaper [following] the pattern
about by the hour (317). She follows all the twist and turns of the wallpaper, decoding each
detail and discovers what she seems to be a woman in a cage. She spends all her time looking at
the paper that she eventually becomes obsessed with figuring out the patterns. She begins to
identify with the woman in the cage which could signify her imprisonment in the room and her
being tormented by her husband s lack of sympathy for her condition and his dominance in their
marriage. Just as male dominance is an issue for the woman in Gilman s work, Faulkner s A Rose

control since an early age. Her, father who was described as a spraddled silhouette and clutching a

The Middle Ages

The English Middle Ages The middle ages (1066 1485) is known as the Dark ages for
representing cultural and economic deterioration following the decline of the exuberant Roman
Empire. However, a variety of important events that took place in that period, mainly in England,
helped shape society as we know it today. Feudalism was created in the middle ages with the king
at the top of military, political, and economic hierarchy, nobles owning the land, and peasants, or
vassals working on the land. Living conditions were hard in general, but life was especially hard
for peasants. The crusades marked the period with knights sent to Jerusalem to fight against
Muslims, demonstrating the immense power of the Roman Chaotic Church, in all areas of
people s lives. The Black Death, or bubonic plague, was also a relevant event that killed one third
of the population of western Europe. The British middle ages influenced the development of
society through the politics, the religion, and the literature of the era. Politics was a key factor in
the development of England in the middle ages. For example, the impact of the new political
regime when the Normans conquered England. The Normans (1066 1154) and the Angevins (1154
1399) created political institutions that set England apart from the rest of Europe ( England ).

A Doll House Henrik Ibsen play A Doll House, written in 1879, focuses on a story of a
disparaging role of women in Victorian society through his doll motif, played out in Nora s
sudden distaste for her home. Throughout the play there are many examples of Nora s husband
Torvald treating Nora in an insulting manner because she s a woman. Torvald calls her little pet
names, and states that she s frail. Nora does things according to what Torvald wants. Everything is
done by his standards. He also doesn t allow her to have much freedom. He doesn t let decisions to

The King And The Chessboard Of Wheat
Humans have many methods to describe large numbers mathematically. Ever since the invention
of the concept of zero essential to the ancients for keeping good records of various transactions
humans have been using mathematics to describe ever larger quantities of items. The story of
the king and the chessboard of wheat demonstrates that while humans have been using large
numbers since the dawn of history; using and comprehending are two entirely different things.
In the story, a king tells a clever mathematician that he may ask for any reward he wishes for his
services to the kingdom. And so the mathematician asks for one grain of rice to be placed on the
first square of a chessboard, and then double that on the second square, and then double the
second on the third, and so on. By the time all the rice would be added up, it would equal well
over the production of rice in the entire modern world! Needless to say, the mathematician did not
receive his reward . The same concept applies to time, at some point the human mind ceases to
differentiate between larger and larger timescales.
Like the king and his chessboard, we have trouble contemplating the vast eons of time that lie
between us and the creation of the earth. Each day seems like a grain of rice, so small that it seems
as though they could never add up to anything substantial. However, looking back allows us to put
ourselves into perspective. By examining history, we can see that we have been on this planet for

Questions on Economics, the Recession, and the Federal...
Part 8 A recession is typically defined as at least two consecutive quarters of economic decline in
GDP. When this happens, unemployment tends to rise, personal income may drop, and the price
of goods and services become volatile. Most agree that it is impossible to eliminate recession in a
capitalistic economy, since it is so cyclic. Recessions may trim weak business and allow stronger
ones to survive by employing techniques that improve quality and service. Recessiondoes not mean
depression; it simply means that there are peaks and valleys within the overall economic system.
Now that economies are more global though, these dips have a far more reaching set of
consequences. In most firms, however, recession may result in some lay offs, but it also may mean
greater attention to sustainability, cost cutting, and a more lean and strategic approach to the
individual product or service (Moffatt, 2009).
Part 9 The Federal Reserve System was created in 1913 to act as the central bank of the United
States and to oversee the nation s monetary policy, regulate banking, and make financial systems
stable. Over the past two years, though, the Fed has faced serious challenges as it responded to
severe recessionary times. The TARP program was a new tool to provide capital to banks, as well
as new programs to stabilize money market mutual funds and short term paper markets. TARP and

Role Of Nurse Leader And Nurse Manager
Role of Nurse Leader and Nurse Manager in Nursing Shortage and Turn over
During the recent years, the American Healthcare system is struggling with the issue of the nursing
shortage and turnover. There are many rationales and reasons for this issue and the writer will
discuss some of them in this paper. Nursing shortage and turnover remarkably influenced on the
provision of the services by the health care provider, the financial burden on the healthcare facility
and also a stressful working environment for the nurses. Also, the writer will discuss and evaluate
this issue by evaluating numerous leadership and management theories and their roles. In addition
to it, will also share a personal and professional philosophy of nursing associated with this issue.
Major reasons for nursing shortage and turn over
A report, published by United State General Accounting Office mentioned that the health care
system and a long term system heavily depend on the nursing services. It also mentioned that the
extreme shortage of nurses is expected in the near future because of the baby boomers are
reaching the age of 60 s and 70 s (GAO, 2001) and due to their age related complications, they
need more assistance for hospitals, long term services, and home health care. On the contrary, The
National Council of State Boards of Nursing indicated that 55% of the Registered Nurse workforce

The Islamic And Christian Faith Essay
he first, second, and third Crusade took place during the time of chivalry. Close to the end of the
11th century was the time in which the First Crusade had begun. The Islamic and Christian faith
had similar views toward Jerusalem as their Holy Land. In 1095, Pope Urban II called for the first
crusade to then later claim the land of Jerusalem from the Muslims. As time went on, the Saracens
rebelled against the Crusaders in defense of their culture and rights. The theme of crusadesis vividly
discussed in literature with a various number of viewpoints in regards to the reasoning and
background of these historical events. The thought process behind the Crusades and the motive
to push this war into action was originally believed that it was for the sake of preserving
sacredness of religions, but in reality, the reasoning is much further from the truth than one
would think and the terrible outcomes of it are even greater. he Crusades was not a rational
movement that could easily be explained purely because of it economical or territorial ambition,
neither would it be explained due to a clashing or rights and interests. Both the Christians and
Muslims were fueled by myths and passions that were far more effective in getting people to act
than any political matter would. And so the years of war have followed. The main spark to this

The Human Papillomavirus ( Hpv )
The Human Papillomavirus (HPV), a sexually transmitted disease (STD), is the most common
sexually transmitted disease in the United States with about 14 million cases each year. There
are two different types of HPV: low risk and high risk. According to the Centers for Disease
Control and Prevention (CDC), more than 90 percent and 80 percent, respectively, of sexually
active men and women will be infected with at least one type of HPV at some point in their
lives. Around one half of these infections are with a high risk HPV (CDC n.p.). High risk HPV
can sometimes cause cancer; however, there is no way of predicting which infected persons could
develop cancer or other serious health problems. The most common form of HPV, low risk, causes
warts; this type of HPV goes away on its own in most cases (CDC n.p.). A vaccination, proven to
prevent against four major stands of HPV, has recently been developed. The vaccination has led to
an enormous amount of controversy regarding whether the vaccination should be mandatory.
Although the vaccineis new, it has been proven effective in preventing HPV and numerous types
of cancer caused by HPV; therefore, it should be mandatory in order to protect today s youth from

Argumentative Essay About Legalizing Marijuana
What really happens when you legalize marijuana? What would happen to America if it was
legal? The effects of this drug on the people who use it and America is a very serious topic. Some
think that that because of the positive effects of marijuana means it should be available to
everyone. In contrast the effects of this drug is detrimental to a person s health and should be
illegal. It causes lung cancerand other breathing problems. In younger adults it causes their
brains to not properly and it can have long term effects on the body. However this drug helps
with terminal illnesses, nausea and stimulating appetite. There are times when this drug is
needed and very useful. The constant argument on whether to legalize marijuana for everyone or
keep it illegal and only used for medical purposes needs to come to a close. While a large and
growing number of people want to legalize it because of its medical uses, the side effects of this
drug cause cancer and development problems; the disadvantages clearly outweigh the advantages of
it. Marijuana is currently and should stay illegal.

Empire were equally doing great but then when Emperor Theodosius came into power in 379 CE,
the fall began. Barbarian attacks and religious disagreement were two major causes for the fall.
Christianity was rising, pagan rites were being knocked, and Roman beliefs were just crumbling.
The waring within the Empire left it weakened and ultimately vulnerable. Which then left their
defences down long enough for barbarian attacks. Christianity is a monotheistic religion, only one
god, which clashed with the traditional Roman religion that was polytheistic, multiple gods.
Persecution was brought down on Christians horribly that is, until Constantine, the first Christian
Emperor, ended the tyranny over the Christians in 313 CE. Soon Christianity became an official
religion and the Western Empire was Roman Catholic. By Roman beliefs, the Emperor was
considered a god of sorts but the Christians only followed one god and since Christianity was

Argumentative Essay On Bhagavad Gita
In the Hinduism Hit The Bhagavad Gita , Buddha Weighs Questions of The Truth
Could killing but not being emotionally attached solve a conflict? In The Bhagavad Gita, Krishna
encourages Arjuna to kill and not be attached. He says, If you are killed, you win heaven; if you
triumph, you enjoy the earth; therefore, Arjuna, stand up and resolved to fight the battle. The path
of my own teachings has three important instructions: moral precepts, no killing; mental
concentration, breath control meditation; and wisdom, the knowledge of knowing there is no self.
Instead of killing, we need to be merciful and kind to others. No man who does not love himself
could love others. Every creature has a life so we need to appreciate and respect them instead of
killing them.
For more than 100 pages, Krishna mainly talks about three types of yoga in The Bhagavad Gita:
jnana (knowledge) yoga, karma (action) yoga, and devotion yoga.
The soul can never be destroyed or changed. Krishna mentions that the soul and body mind are
different. The body dies and is reborn. The soul remains. I also believe in the universal soul
(purusha). My values, however, are slightly different. I realize that there are three types of
suffering: dukkha dukkha, viparinama dukkha, and samkhara dukkha. Dukkha dukkhua means
obvious physical or mental pain. Viparinama dukkha means losing something that is valuable to
you. Suffering can also be translated to satisfactoriness, instability, and uncertainty.

Retinal Degeneration
New stem cell treatment has the potential to restore vision once lost. Researchers have developed
a new treatment that prevents irreversible vision loss brought on by end stage retinal disease. The
new technique involves the use of stem cells that are grown in a lab. During trails, scientist s were
able to grow new retinatissue and then transplant the tissue into the mice who had end stage retinal
degeneration. During the study skin cells are taken from an adult mouse and converted with
induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs). During this experiment, researchers from RIKEN Center for
Developmental Biology in Japan used iPSCs since they can act like embryonic stem cells. Coupled
with a shuttle avoidance test researchers determined whether the... Show more content on

More than forty percent of the mice tested gained the ability to see light clearly. This was a new
medical advancement for the science community as no one has ever before been successful in
transplanting stem cells that have the ability to sense light. Retinal degeneration is extremely
complex to treat until now. Cells need to have the ability to make connections with the host s
nervous system and send signals to the brain. Regardless, many unsolved answers exist.
Researchers are still trying to find a way to increase the number of connections between a
degenerated retina and the transplant. This would allow the hosts to not only see light but large
scale figures and movement. This is extremely important as retinal degeneration that affects
approximately around 170 million people worldwide can led to total blindness. Nevertheless, this
advancement comes with many unanswered questions. Researchers are concerned whether this
treatment could actually be applied to humans as many risk factors exist. The experiments do not
provide information on recovery time in humans nor how the transplanted retinas would respond to
the same procedure. Moreover, Scientists contend whether human eyes have different environments
from mice. The only way researchers could test human retinal transplants would be from human
conducted trails which remain a controversial

Seeking Your True Self in the Virtual World
The question of identity has always been a central theme for many, in particular the youth. Today,
as we enter a new age of Internet technology, the quest for defining oneself has shifted online. While
many, especially the younger generation, embrace the liberation that digital communities offer,
others are apprehensive of the dangers that lurk in the virtual world. The anxiety is not entirely
unjustified. Nevertheless, the truth is the benefits that accompany online communities far outweigh
its drawbacks. According to Daniel Chandler, author of Identities under Construction , and Danah
Boyd, an American researcher known for her works on social network sites, online tools such as

The misrepresentation and manipulation of one s identity is an ongoing concern for many.
Chandler cites that some critics are alarmed by the excessive manipulation of public identities. In
support, Boyd bought up the issue of staged imagery not truly representative of one s behaviors.
Despite the fact that the vast majority of online users tend to portray a polished self representation
by ridding the undesirable aspects, there are some others that are utterly unpretentious. They
frequently include details in their Web pages that are not glamorizing, but are what they felt
necessary to paint a more genuine picture of themselves.
There are still some who constructed online identities not for the pursuit of self definition, but for
others to come to terms with a side of themselves that they have difficulty disclosing face to face.
Chandler presents two examples in which two gay personal home page authors use their website to
inform others about their homosexuality. One of them, Rob, mentioned that people can consider
his side of the story before reacting (Chandler, 2004).
Staying Connected
One reason why so many people are fascinated with online communities is the ability to socialize
not only with immediate circle of friends, but with a much broader secondary network of peers and
people with a shared interest. In addition, tools such as MySpace provide them the capacity to be
constantly connected to their

There are over 300 different kinds of cancer in the world. That s a pretty scary number. If you don t

member who has cancer, your risks just increased. There is a 2 3% chance that out of every 100

that can contribute to this are two or more people on the same side (either father s or mother s)
of the family that has developed that cancer, a relative developed the cancer at a young age, or a
relative has developed two different types of cancer. Most of these cancers are caused by a faulty
gene that is passed down from generation to generation.

Water Coliforms Lab Report
Abstract
The purpose of this experiment is to determine whether or not the samples involved in the testing
contain coliforms, and if the samples do contain coliforms are they fecal or non fecal. This also
allows us as students to understand that microbes can be in everything.
Introduction
The element of water is very essential to the human body. From basic needs of life to bathing we
use water on a daily basis. Due to the fact that we use water every day, its only important that we
find out what is in our water. Lakes, rivers, and other fresh water sources are key for drinking
water and even beneficial for the land. (Guan, et al, 2017) Even though we use these sources, they
can become contaminated with microbes. For example, animals such ... Show more content on

Coliforms are lactose fermenters so the most probable number test confirmed that the bacteria in the
water samples were lactose fermenters. When the lactose broth changed from red to yellow is
indicated that acid was produced, and when the bubble was found in the Durham tube, it
indicated the presence of gas. EMB agar was used because EMB agar is differential and a type
of selective media. EMB agar selects for gram negative bacteria and differentiates just how strong
of a lactose fermenter it is by altering the color of the colony. For example, this dictate the pink or
purple color of the culture. At this point the presence of coliforms had been confirmed and the next
step was to identify the type of coliform. This was done with the use of the IMViC test. The four
sub tests within the IMViC are indole production, Methyl red test, Voges Proskaur test, and citrate
utilization. The indole production test indicates whether or not the hydrolysis of trytophan into
indole, pyruvate, and ammonia happened. The Methyl red test indicated the Ph. In the Methyl red
test if the solution turns red, it indicates the Ph is 4.2 or lower. If the solution does not turn red it
indicates that there is no mixed acid fermentation and that butanediol was produced instead. The
Voges Proskaur test is only positive is the Methyl red test

Homeless Youth Research Paper
The effect of homelessness among teens
Transitioning to adulthood is a difficult point in time for adolescences under the greatest of
conditions. It is an occasion when adolescents are developing their freedom and individuality.
These psychological changes influence cognitive processing and behavior. Homeless youth not
only have to make new decisions concerning how and where to be in this world but they must also
make these decisions when their decision making and problem solving skills are still budding
(National Alliance to End Homelessness, 2005). Homeless teens need the financial, social, and
emotional capital to sufficiently supply for their personal requirements, and this can direct to
hazardous consequences. Many homeless youth portray ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(Administration for Children Families, 1995). The exchange of sex for shelter, food, drugs, or
money is one of the most damaging consequences of homelessness. Adopting abnormal strategies
can place adolescents at a greater risk for life threatening victimization (Eugene, 1997). It is
complicated to get a practical image of the everyday life of an unaccompanied and homeless youth.
The data of homeless youth is rising, but this subgroup of the homeless population remains one of
the least understood, most vulnerable, and most convoluted to attain. Once on the street,
adolescents are victimized as they are exposed to dangers that equal or exceed the home situations
they sought to escape. Ways in which youth are most likely to become homeless include running
away, being thrown away, or transitioning out of systems care without stable placement. While
many episodes of homelessness may be short in duration or located in relatively protective settings
such as shelters other episodes are potentially more serious (e.g., spending the night outside or in an
abandoned building). Living life on the street leaves adolescents very vulnerable to victimization,
exploitation, substance abuse, and a multitude of other physical, mental, and emotional problems,
many of which

Those feelings are what caused high poverty rates, the formation of gangs, and the high level of
violence into Homewood, Pennsylvania.
John and Robert always dreamed about running away from the poverty embracing their
community. Even though they shared the same dream, each considered different means of
achieving this dream. John realized at an early age that education was his was out of poverty in
Pittsburgh. In his book Brothers and Keepers, John explains how he was running away from
Pittsburgh because of the poverty. He explained that the only logical way to get out of these
unbearable conditions were to go to college.
For many African Americans growing up in the 1960 s college was not an option. The only thing
that was option for African Americans, were to get a job to support their family. Most of the
African American communities did not have enough money to send their child to college. John
understood this situation and did not let it hinder him. He knew that the first step to his exile, his
flight from home would be getting good grades.
While attending school John did not only get good grades, he played basketball. The people in the
African American culture in the 1960 s believed that the only way for a black person to get into
college was to play sports for the white man. With many African Americans having this mind set, it

The relevance of nutrition in health Essay
Optimum nutrition is needed for optimum health
Nutrition can be described as the science of consuming and utilizing foods in a natural medicinal
way so as to provide the human body with optimum health by taking care of the body s dietary
needs. Nutritional science studies how the human body catabolizes and anabolizes certain groups
of foods to see how they affect the repair and creation of new and old cells. Good nutrition and a
healthy lifestyle, combined with regular physical activity, are essential to good health and wellbeing.
Poor diet and lifestyle choices can lead to an increased susceptibility to disease, reduced immunity
and impaired physical and mental development (World Health Organization 2009).

Both of these practices require implementation of a healthy and varied diet in order to achieve
beneficial therapeutic outcomes (Community Services and Health Industry Skills Council 2013).
The relevance of considering dietary changes and nutritional supplementation in addressing
nutritional status
Dietary changes and nutritional supplementation are well known as highly useful tools when
attempting to correct a nutritional deficiency. Folic acid s benefit in pregnancy is a well
documented example of this. Folate, also known as vitamin B9, is a micronutrient which can be
found in foods such as green leafy vegetables, grains, cereals and meat. Folate has an important
role in the synthesis of DNA and the division of cells. Significant folate deficiency can lead to
several different birth defects including neural tube defects (NTD s), spinal bifida and anencephaly
(birth without part of the brain) as the neural tube is the embryonic precursor to the brain and
spinal column. Folic acid, a synthetic form of folate, is used in multivitamin supplements because
it is better absorbed by the body (Science Based Medicine 2013).
Recently, a meta analysis was conducted on women who were planning to marry in an area of
China which exhibited a high prevalence of NTD s. They were asked to take 400mg of folic

Starbucks And Its Impact On The World Coffee Industry Essay
Millions of people all over the world will take time out of their day to walk into a Starbucks for a
cup of Joe . Coffee is the most popular leading beverage that is enjoyed throughout the world and
in so many different forms. You can get coffee just about anywhere, but there is a reason why
people choose Starbucks coffee. Starbucks is known for their friendly, positive environment with
staff that is truly accommodating and welcoming. People buy Starbucks for what it represents and
the status image that comes along with it. Starbucks has an excellent business structure due to its
national and global success. Starbucks stands strong in the world coffee industry and still is
financially succeeding even in hard economic times with coffee that may seem overpriced to many.
The coffee industry is continually growing regardless of the increase cost of coffee since
January 2009. The price has been rising not because of the price of coffee itself, but because of
the supply chain and the current economic situation around the world. In 2012, Starbucks had to
raise their prices globally, but especially in the United States and China, due to rising prices of
coffee and other ingredients they use to make their signature drinks. Although prices were raised
globally due to high demand of the product and the cost of producing it, there is still a strong
demand for Starbucks because of their large consumer base. Starbucks main competitors are
McDonald s and Dunkin Donuts. Starbucks knows

Film Analysis Of Stanley Kubrick s A Clockwork Orange
Stanley Kubrick has returned after his 1971 s controversial success A Clockwork Orange with
his tonally different 1975 feature, Barry Lyndon. His last feature was a movie that was ultra
violent and about a totalitarianism society. This movie is different by a wide margin. It has
more of a historical value because it takes place in England during the Seven Years War and we
get a sense of English society at the time. It is also based off the works of famed nineteenth
century writer William Makepeace Thackeray. This film also has a lovely atmospheric air to it.
Kubrick, as usual, masterfully write this feature. You could tell that this is his pet project.
However, the movie does clock in at over three hours and with the lack of action, there can be a
dull moment or two to be had. After all, I feel the aristocratic world can get somewhat boring at
times. That being said, we have Kubrick on the top of his game as he created a valued historical
narrative that remains mostly interesting and our eyes are able to feast on perfect costuming and
successful camera experimenting. Essentially, Kubrick and cinematographer John Alcott shot the
film without the use of electrical light, and that is why the look of the film seemed a bit odd
compared to other films. Narratively, I felt the first hour of the film was the strongest. I found the
last two hours enjoyable, but it would be very hard to top the perfect narrative of the first hour.

A Major Area China s Air Pollution Effects On The...
A major area China s air pollution effects is the environment. With this in mind a way the pollution
damages the environment is through acid rain ( Air pollution in China ). Sulfur dioxide and
nitrogen oxides go high into the atmosphere to combine with oxygen to form the heavy pollutant
known as acid rain (epa.gov). Acid rain easily dissolves in water, and when mixed with other
pollutants in China s atmosphere, can contaminate the soil and water sources. One third of China s
water is unusable in the industry and agriculture because of contamination (Kahn Yardley). That is
concerning because water is used for a lot of things in the world and if it can be contaminated, the
contamination might spread to wildlife. Acid rain is a really common issue the air pollutioncauses in
China. Another subject with the environment is how the air pollutionhas affected the world. It has
pervaded through the air to neighboring countries including Korea, Japan, and some parts of North
America ( Air pollution in China ). This causes some other countries to worry about China s
ignorance towards the problem, because it has large potential to pervade the world. On the other
end of the effects, the heavy air pollution in China causes a variety of health problems. The air
pollution in china greatly increases the cases of cancer, respiratory diseases, chronic obstructive
pulmonary diseases, a weakening immune system, and a reduced lung function ( Air pollution in

  • 2. Rhetorical Analysis Of Ezra Pound s His Philosophy And... Ezra Pound was one of the most famous and influential figures in the Modernist literature movement. Make it new was his philosophy and the rallying cry for Modernist literature. Whilst the Modernists tried to capture the new by a persistent experimentalism , it rejected the traditional (Victorian and Edwardian) framework of narrative, description, and rational exposition in poetry and prose . Modernist literaturenot only rejected the old in terms of form, but also in subject matter Modernismbegan to focus more on the self, on the internal dialogue. Whilst Post Modernism is much harder to define, one thing that is prolific in Postmodern literature is the re working and imitation of the past in the form of parody and pastiche. What I find interesting is that whilst Modernist were driven by the desire to create something new, they were mostly benighted traditionalists that were reacting to the change around them. The Postmodernists however, were not lamenting change but using literature in a way that hoped to stimulate it. I am going to look at this with a specific focus on The Waste Land by T.S. Eliot and The Crying Lot of 49 by Thomas Pynchon. Of course neither Modernist Literature nor Postmodernist literature existed in a vacuum. They were both parts of wider movements as a whole The Modernist movement and the Postmodernist movement. The Modernist period occurred during a time of great change rapid industrialisation and new media which disrupted the class ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Eva Peron is among the most controversial women in the modern history and a significant Latin American political figure, has also been portrayed as a cultural symbol through movies and popular music over the last decades. The biography exposes Eva Peron s real humanity, and it does not only focus on her achievements but also her failures and eccentricities. Fraser and Navarro s book carries the life of Peron from birth to death in a chronological sequence. The first chapter of the biography gives the details of Peron s family survival on the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Marysa Navarro and Nicholas Fraser, however, maintain that there is no record of Magaldi performing in Junin in the year 1934. The Peronist version of Evita s participation in crisis placed her in the traditional Argentine woman s role. Evita was depicted as a supportive and a faithful wife even in Peron s darkest hour. The opposition s version was that it was Evita who resisted Peron s arrest and led the organizing his release. On the surface, Evita s role description by the opposition appear to have some positive qualities, they also had negative connotations that were disparaging both to Evita and her husband. The actions of Evita taking the role assigned to Peron, she emasculates him and reveal her masculinity. Nicholas Fraser and Maryssa Navarro recognize the negative connotations of Evita s portrayal in the Argentine context. This element alerts the reader to the meaning of the current Latin fascination with Eva Peron. One the surface Evita seems to be a strong woman who is a role model to others, but Both actors reveal her real self and attack her character of a woman who leaves her traditions. Until the publication by Fraser and Navarro, Evita had been viewed as an uneducated, obscure and a vulgar woman who used men to climb the gutter. This team, along with seven other teams made up what was then called: The Japanese Baseball League. Around 1950, the Nippon Professional Baseball League (NPB), was divided into two different leagues: the Pacific League and the Central League. Each of these leagues were made up of six teams that played each other up until the Japan Series, as well as the All Star game. Despite the many athletes that Japan has, not very many of them went on to play in the Major League. One major factor that kept Japanese players from playing in the Major League during this time was World War II. The Japanese players felt that they shouldn t leave their country during that time of turmoil, so many of them turned down contracts to play in the majors. Another reason many of them stayed to play in Japan was the contracts that many of them had with the NPB. The frightful creature frequented the roads to the city, killing and devouring all travelers who could not answer the riddle that she put to them: What walks on four legs in the morning, on two legs at noon, and on three legs in the evening? This is an issue that can t be ignored. Nuclear weapons should be reduced in the United States because it s a danger to the world and could ruin this Earth and eventually its people. The United States can have fewer nuclear weapons without putting our nations security in jeopardy. If we have just a little less nuclear power we could still have power over other countries but not too much power. However, some may argue that having a lot of nuclear weapons on and keeps the United States safe from harm. Robert Spalding said, The U.S. nuclear force exists to keep a threshold on the level of violence. While nuclear weapons are a useful source of defense, it s still overdone to the point where it s too much. The Pentagon, the headquarters of the United States defense, even thinks the nation should reduce its nuclear weapon number. Garwin and Gronlund said in their article, According to news reports, the Pentagon has concluded that the United States can meet its security needs with fewer deployed weapons perhaps 1,000. If our country isn t using our extra nuclear weapons, we could afford to get rid of only 1,000 of them. As of November, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Respect And Disrespect In Society What is the definition of respect? Respect is defined as the quality or state of being esteemed according to the Merriam Webster Dictionary. Society, thus far, has been based off of respect, but in a world where respect has seemed to have begun to start disappearing; what exactly could happen to society itself? Society can handle some disrespect but if disrespect begins to take control, disrespect could very well become the new norm and lead to dangerous consequences down the road. Respect has been around since the dawn of the human race. Leaders have been granted respect from making a tough decision in hard times to authoritative positions. Respect is not a trait that has the capability to be gained overnight. Respect is a trait that can be wiped away from just one mistake an individual makes. Leaders have a huge impact on society. For example, current President Donald Trump, has received huge amounts of disrespect from decisions he has made while in office or remarks he made on the campaign trail. This form of disrespect has huge consequences on society. Society is not functioning in a healthy way due to examples like this. This is not about whether an individual likes the President or not this is about showing respect. When the youth see this form of disrespect, it lays the grounds for how the youth will teach their children. Could society really function with this continuing growth of disrespect? From learning about musical techniques and applying it to my songwriting process, it helped me become a better songwriter. Throughout this reflection, I want to discuss the things I learned throughout the semester and why it helped my as a songwriter. Before taking this course, I used to just sing my songs, but never used to write them down. Throughout, the course I learned that it s important to work on your songs even if it s working on part of it. Taking time to improve you songs is already a step forward. Starting from lesson two, I learned the importance of having a strong premise. I found this very useful because then you have an idea of what your song is going to be about. You start thinking of emotion and storyline you want to write in the lyrics. For example, if you premise is about heartbreak, then the lyrics will be about a relationship, with maybe a sad piano accompaniment. Another interesting thing I learned about lesson two was the articles we read about techniques for finding ways to be inspired when writing a song. The article that was very useful was Finding Inspiration. From this article, a technique that I found useful was to write music about yourself or experiences. I found this to be a common thing for songwriters, according to the book we read In their Own Words, which was very interesting to read, I found that most of the famous songwriters, for example Dolly ... Nonetheless, he left buildings and artwork that still exist today, and he had two biographers who provided information about his work, from these we can learn a lot about this Renaissance genius. Filippo Brunelleschi invented new technology for the dome and created far more advanced technology to help the dome be built. He began studying the science of motion and particular weights, wheels, and gears and it lead him to invent some of the first alarm clocks, as well as some of the equipment to raise the bricks from the ground to the roof (King, 13). In addition, Brunelleschi also made sure that the dome was being built to his standard and it was going to last a long time. For example, he inspected every one of the four million bricks that he was going to use for the structure. Another important quality of the dome was the mortar used to hold the bricks together. It was made by mixing sand and water with quicklime (King, 93). The quality of the bricks and mortar was only the beginning. He worked out how to set the bricks for the greatest strength to support the weight of the dome by having them set in a criss crossing herringbone pattern (Mueller, 84). The brickwork was crucial because the bricks needed to make up the dome without any outside support. In order to do this Brunelleschi linked the bricks in a spiral going up to the top, called a herringbone pattern. The vertical bricks acted as book ends to keep the horizontal bricks in place. The ll Duomo di Firenze was built to be an eight sided dome that stood taller and stronger than others during that time period. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The ability to untangle these forces is critical to national identities and to resolving contradictions between these principles in order to strengthen the values of justice. The values of liberty, equality, security and efficiency have different weights, but all of these have come to characterize the modern state, have guided the formation of domestic public policy and continue to constitute the criteria by which policy success is judged. This paper aims to outline the national policy objectives and the value oriented solutions of societal problems like the ones mentioned above. Since September 11 2001, the type of terrorist attacks which have emerged have begun to have major ramifications on how states are able to aspire to the ideals of liberty, equality, security and efficiency. States have changed the way they conduct policy and focus on efforts to face the challenge of how efforts to increase security may have curtailed citizens liberties (Haubrich, 400). The anti terrorismstrategies and tactics that democratic states have employed in order to neutralize terrorist threats have varied widely. Some have been reactive, others proactive or preventative. And when virtue has been corrupted, a heroic leader must appear who in rebuilding the political order infuses this virtue into the entire citizenry. According to Rosseau political corruptionis a necessary consequence of the struggle for power. Then he argued that man had been corrupted by social and political life. It is not the corruption of man which destroyed the political system but the political system which corrupts and destroys man. Corruption is a kind of behavior which deviates from the norm actually prevalent or behaved to prevail in a given context, such as the political. She begins to identify with the woman in the cage which could signify her imprisonment in the room and her being tormented by her husband s lack of sympathy for her condition and his dominance in their marriage. Just as male dominance is an issue for the woman in Gilman s work, Faulkner s A Rose for Emily details how Emily s father and love interest dictate her life. Unlike the woman in The Yellow Wallpaperbeing dominated by her own husband, Emily Grierson was under her father s control since an early age. • 30. The Middle Ages Luiz Gustavo Machado Mrs. Phillips British Literature 6 January 2016 The English Middle Ages The middle ages (1066 1485) is known as the Dark ages for representing cultural and economic deterioration following the decline of the exuberant Roman Empire. However, a variety of important events that took place in that period, mainly in England, helped shape society as we know it today. Feudalism was created in the middle ages with the king at the top of military, political, and economic hierarchy, nobles owning the land, and peasants, or vassals working on the land. Living conditions were hard in general, but life was especially hard for peasants. The crusades marked the period with knights sent to Jerusalem to fight against Muslims, demonstrating the immense power of the Roman Chaotic Church, in all areas of people s lives. The Black Death, or bubonic plague, was also a relevant event that killed one third of the population of western Europe. The British middle ages influenced the development of society through the politics, the religion, and the literature of the era. Politics was a key factor in the development of England in the middle ages. For example, the impact of the new political regime when the Normans conquered England. The Normans (1066 1154) and the Angevins (1154 1399) created political institutions that set England apart from the rest of Europe ( England ). Essay about a doll house A Doll House Henrik Ibsen play A Doll House, written in 1879, focuses on a story of a disparaging role of women in Victorian society through his doll motif, played out in Nora s sudden distaste for her home. Nora does things according to what Torvald wants. Everything is done by his standards. He also doesn t allow her to have much freedom. He doesn t let decisions to be made by Nora. • 33. The King And The Chessboard Of Wheat Humans have many methods to describe large numbers mathematically. Ever since the invention of the concept of zero essential to the ancients for keeping good records of various transactions humans have been using mathematics to describe ever larger quantities of items. The story of the king and the chessboard of wheat demonstrates that while humans have been using large numbers since the dawn of history; using and comprehending are two entirely different things. In the story, a king tells a clever mathematician that he may ask for any reward he wishes for his services to the kingdom. And so the mathematician asks for one grain of rice to be placed on the first square of a chessboard, and then double that on the second square, and then double the second on the third, and so on. By the time all the rice would be added up, it would equal well over the production of rice in the entire modern world! Needless to say, the mathematician did not receive his reward . The same concept applies to time, at some point the human mind ceases to differentiate between larger and larger timescales. Like the king and his chessboard, we have trouble contemplating the vast eons of time that lie between us and the creation of the earth. Each day seems like a grain of rice, so small that it seems as though they could never add up to anything substantial. However, looking back allows us to put ourselves into perspective. • 34. Questions on Economics, the Recession, and the Federal... Part 8 A recession is typically defined as at least two consecutive quarters of economic decline in GDP. When this happens, unemployment tends to rise, personal income may drop, and the price of goods and services become volatile. Most agree that it is impossible to eliminate recession in a capitalistic economy, since it is so cyclic. Recessions may trim weak business and allow stronger ones to survive by employing techniques that improve quality and service. Recessiondoes not mean depression; it simply means that there are peaks and valleys within the overall economic system. Now that economies are more global though, these dips have a far more reaching set of consequences. In most firms, however, recession may result in some lay offs, but it also may mean greater attention to sustainability, cost cutting, and a more lean and strategic approach to the individual product or service (Moffatt, 2009). Part 9 The Federal Reserve System was created in 1913 to act as the central bank of the United States and to oversee the nation s monetary policy, regulate banking, and make financial systems stable. Over the past two years, though, the Fed has faced serious challenges as it responded to severe recessionary times. Close to the end of the 11th century was the time in which the First Crusade had begun. The Islamic and Christian faith had similar views toward Jerusalem as their Holy Land. In 1095, Pope Urban II called for the first crusade to then later claim the land of Jerusalem from the Muslims. As time went on, the Saracens rebelled against the Crusaders in defense of their culture and rights. The theme of crusadesis vividly discussed in literature with a various number of viewpoints in regards to the reasoning and background of these historical events. The thought process behind the Crusades and the motive to push this war into action was originally believed that it was for the sake of preserving sacredness of religions, but in reality, the reasoning is much further from the truth than one would think and the terrible outcomes of it are even greater. he Crusades was not a rational movement that could easily be explained purely because of it economical or territorial ambition, neither would it be explained due to a clashing or rights and interests. Both of these practices require implementation of a healthy and varied diet in order to achieve beneficial therapeutic outcomes (Community Services and Health Industry Skills Council 2013). The relevance of considering dietary changes and nutritional supplementation in addressing nutritional status Dietary changes and nutritional supplementation are well known as highly useful tools when attempting to correct a nutritional deficiency. Folic acid s benefit in pregnancy is a well documented example of this. Folate, also known as vitamin B9, is a micronutrient which can be found in foods such as green leafy vegetables, grains, cereals and meat. Folate has an important role in the synthesis of DNA and the division of cells. Significant folate deficiency can lead to several different birth defects including neural tube defects (NTD s), spinal bifida and anencephaly (birth without part of the brain) as the neural tube is the embryonic precursor to the brain and spinal column. Folic acid, a synthetic form of folate, is used in multivitamin supplements because it is better absorbed by the body (Science Based Medicine 2013). Recently, a meta analysis was conducted on women who were planning to marry in an area of China which exhibited a high prevalence of NTD s. They were asked to take 400mg of folic ... • 55. Film Analysis Of Stanley Kubrick s A Clockwork Orange Stanley Kubrick has returned after his 1971 s controversial success A Clockwork Orange with his tonally different 1975 feature, Barry Lyndon. His last feature was a movie that was ultra violent and about a totalitarianism society. This movie is different by a wide margin. It has more of a historical value because it takes place in England during the Seven Years War and we get a sense of English society at the time. It is also based off the works of famed nineteenth century writer William Makepeace Thackeray. This film also has a lovely atmospheric air to it. Kubrick, as usual, masterfully write this feature. You could tell that this is his pet project. However, the movie does clock in at over three hours and with the lack of action, there can be a dull moment or two to be had. After all, I feel the aristocratic world can get somewhat boring at times. That being said, we have Kubrick on the top of his game as he created a valued historical narrative that remains mostly interesting and our eyes are able to feast on perfect costuming and successful camera experimenting. Essentially, Kubrick and cinematographer John Alcott shot the film without the use of electrical light, and that is why the look of the film seemed a bit odd compared to other films. Narratively, I felt the first hour of the film was the strongest. I found the last two hours enjoyable, but it would be very hard to top the perfect narrative of the first hour. Acid rain easily dissolves in water, and when mixed with other pollutants in China s atmosphere, can contaminate the soil and water sources. One third of China s water is unusable in the industry and agriculture because of contamination (Kahn Yardley). That is concerning because water is used for a lot of things in the world and if it can be contaminated, the contamination might spread to wildlife. Acid rain is a really common issue the air pollutioncauses in China. Another subject with the environment is how the air pollutionhas affected the world. It has pervaded through the air to neighboring countries including Korea, Japan, and some parts of North America ( Air pollution in China ). This causes some other countries to worry about China s ignorance towards the problem, because it has large potential to pervade the world. On the other end of the effects, the heavy air pollution in China causes a variety of health problems.
