This document discusses how to configure DHCP on a server. It describes installing and configuring the ifconfig utility to assign IP addresses statically or dynamically from DHCP. It also explains how to install and configure the ISC DHCP server, including editing configuration files, starting the DHCP service, and checking the firewall status.

2. IFCONFIG
• ifconfig is a system administration utility in Unix-like operating systems
for network interface configuration.
• The utility is a command line interface tool and is also used in the system startup
scripts of many operating systems. It has features for configuring, controlling, and
querying TCP/IP network interface parameters.

3. INSTALL IFCONFIG
• Sudo apt-get install -y net-tools
Configure IP in the interface
• sudo nano /etc/network/interfaces

4. AUTOMATICALLY TAKE FROM DHCP

5. STATICALLY ASSIGN IP ADDRESS
• Ifconfig ens33 192.168.144.148/24
• Route add default gw 192.168.110.5 ens33
• Echo “nameserver 8.8.8.8” >>/etc/resolv.conf

6. REMOVE STATIC IP
• echo “iface eth0 inet dhcp” >>/etc/network/interfaces

7. SHOW THE PROCESS
• Ps aux | grep -I apt
Kill the process
• Sudo kill -9 process ID

8. TO MAKE SERVER IN GUI
• Sudo apt update
• Sudo apt upgrade
• Sudo apt-get install ubuntu-desktop
• Sudo apt install ubuntu-gnome-desktop
• Sudo apt-get install gnome-shell
• Sudo tasksel

9. DHCP SERVER INSTALLATION AND
CONFIGURATION
• Sudo apt-get update
• Sudo apt-get install isc-dhcp-server

10. DHCP SERVER CONFIGURATION
• Sudo nano /etc/default/isc-dhcp-server
INTERFACEv4-“ens33”
• Sudo nano dhcpd.conf
Authorative;
Subnet 172.25.1.0 netmask 255.255.255.0 {
Range 172.25.1.100 172.25.1.200;
Option domain-name-servers 172.25.1.5;
Option subnet-mask 255.255.255.0
Option routers 172.25.1.255
Option broadcast- addresss 172.25.1.255
}

11. • Sudo systemctl start isc-dhcp-server
• Sudo systemctl status isc-dhcp-server
• Sudo systemctl enable isc-dhcp-server
• System-sysv-install enable isc-dhcp-server
• Sudo ufw status
