This document discusses using diversity reception with multiple antennas to improve underground wireless communication. It proposes a lateral-direct-reflected (LDR) approach using three antennas to separately receive the lateral, direct, and reflected signal components. Software-defined radio experiments show maximum ratio combining (MRC) of the three signals can increase SNR by 3 times compared to a single antenna, reducing bit error rate from 10^-2 to 10^-5. The contributions include exploiting the spatial modularity of underground channels with multiple antennas and analyzing performance improvements from diversity reception techniques.
