How Did Fleming Discovered Penicillin
Penicillin is an antibiotic medicine used to treat harmful bacteria and infections
inside and outside of your body. Alexander Fleming, a bacteriologist, discovered it
in the early 1900s. As stated by Brittany Connors on page 125 of The Discovery of
Penicillin: The True Story , Fleming often admitted that he discovered Penicillinby
accident, and that all of the work was done by nature. Although the finding of this
cure may have been an accident, it s use case has helped save many lives and keep
many from sickness. There were numerous events that led to the discovery and
development of this treatment such as Fleming s messy laboratory, Florey s
realization of the medical potential of Penicillin, and Moyer s success in raising the
production yield. Many can argue that having a messy laboratory or office is a bad
thing, however, it is believed to be the reason why Fleming discovered Penicillin in
the first place. As Jesse Lane stated in Not So Dumb Luck , When bacteriologist
Alexander Flemingleft for vacation one day in September of 1928, he left a mess in
his laboratory. Fleming left petri dishes out in the open, and after some
experimentation, he found one with a ring that was bacteriafree and contained the rare
mold, Penicillium notatum, which... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In November, 1941, Andrew Moyer had succeeded in increasing the yield of
Penicillin produced by ten times. As production was increased, the price dropped
from nearly priceless in 1940, to $20 per dose in July 1943, to $0.55 per dose in
1946 (Bellis). Since the supply was increased, the demand was met and there was
more than what was needed. This in turn, drove the price down, making the
medication available to people with the lowest income. The development of
Penicillin in its later stages released the much needed drug to the masses at an

Polygamy In Family Law Of The Qing Dynasty
Compare the traditional and modern marriage, women have more free to control
their own life now. They would like looking for love for their marriage, not a tool
for carry on the family descent line.
For traditional marriage, for mate selection, parents would like to choice family by
perfect match. Women do not have any choice for love, also women do not have any
opportunity to touch the society when after marriage in a family. The polygamy is a
symbol to restrict women status during Qing Dynasty. In family law of the Qing
Dynasty, polygamy with Chinese characteristics was both legally and morally
encouraged and accepted, amenable to the custom of being noble in male gender and
humble in female gender. Polygamy in the imperial palace set an example in society

Emerging From The Restrictive Culture Of The 1950 S
Essay
Emerging from the restrictive culture of the 1950 s, the counterculture of the 1960s
challenged the prescribed norms, roles and expectations of the previous generations
that outcasted youth found restrictive and alienating. Baby Boomers retained the
abstract goals of mainstream society; they sought individual freedom and
opportunities for self determination. But their vision of the American dream widened
the traditional definitions of freedom to include bodily, psychological, and political
freedoms. 60 s counterculture disagreed with the capitalist, patriarchal, white
supremacist foundation of American life and turned against the traditional ideas of
american identity in rebellion, seeking freedom and coexistence in an increasingly
confined and competitive society.
The generation that originated the counterculture of the 60 s, the Baby Boomers,
grew up in a highly restrictive culture of uniformity and strict, Anglo Christian
morality. 1950 s America was thriving off of a post war economic boom, and
American exceptionalist mentality permeated social narratives, ever juxtaposing the
US against the faceless enemy of communism and fascism.
Still grappling with societal changes of WWII. Work in war industries had offered
higher quality jobs, once inhabited by men, to working women. This created
expectations of continued equal opportunities for women in the workforce. Women
did continue to work when soldiers returned, but in lower wage non union service

Analysis Of The Real Estate Industry In China
Introduction: This study is focusing on real estate sector in China, and especially on
property market. In 2017, property and construction both account for approximately
15% of the whole economy (share to GDP), with property alone directly impacting
around 40 other industries (Chen and Glenn, 2017) with a tendency for the Chinese
government to heavily rely on infrastructure development to sustain growth in the
long term (Letts, 2017). When ancillary industries are taken into account, the real
estate impact on Chinese GDP is estimated to be around 35% (Anderlini, 2015
/ Cao, 2014). Besides, the medium to long term loans and mortgages to households
have been growing by 13 to 15% yearly since 2013 (Chinese household debt to GDP

Similar patterns are found for luxury housing market and second hand house
markets (Savills, 2017). b)Renting: Rental yields (gross annual rental income
expressed as a percentage of today s property purchase price and representing the
return on investment by renting) on almost all sizes of apartments in 13 cities are
below 2% nowadays compared to 10% and 8% in Beijing and Shanghai
respectively in 2005. Usually, leasing property involve paying Individual Income
Tax (IIT), Business Tax (BT), and Real Estate Tax (RET). Besides, other taxes may
also be imposed on rental income by local governments. Consequently, rental
yields are usually considered safe at levels above 5% which is obviously not the
case anymore since 2009 2010. It is hard to escape the fact that prices are climbing
steeply, while rents are not moving much because of recent governmental policies
pushing up the number of properties available for rent. Xiamen, for example, is
today considered as the city with the most risks of a bubble with 100 years return on
investment through rent while it requires 72 year in Beijing (Yangpeng, 2017).
c)Construction and urbanization: From 2003 to 2014, the construction sector created

Situation Analysis
Growing trend in leisure activities
With changing generations come changes in buying behavior and consumer
attitudes. For example, the Baby Boomer generation is work orientated and
focused on their professional life, sometimes letting their families suffer as a
consequence of their dedication. On the other hand, Generation X is more family
oriented and incorporates this in their buying behavior. As described by Lamb,
Hair, and McDaniel in Marketing 9th Edition (2008), Gen Xers are a highly
desired target for travel providers...Gen Xers have no qualms about taking a
midweek trip for fun, (p. 80). Generation X like to take spur of the moment trips and
are not necessarily as worried about the completion of their job tasks, which not only
makes them more attractive to travel providers but also to companies who provide
vacation resorts, or, more specifically, theme parks.
Target Market:
Primary Customers: Kids, teens, families
Initially kids under 12 were the main target market due to the nature of the Disney
product and its appeal to children. It was soon realized that the target market was not
only young children, but often includes the decision makers such as parents and
teachers. These are usually the people who are providing funds for the merchandise
or providing ideas for
Summary Of Paula Dan s Short Story Faces
Fibber Flowers From the beginning of their days, children are endlessly taught that
true beauty lies within, even if the exterior looks rather dull or repulsive. The
skeleton of prejudice is based on not wanting something or someone because of one
s precomposed perception, despite the fact that the receiver of the prejudice s true
identity and character are unknown. Paradoxically, the thin coat of glitter and gold
can easily be used to conceal the coal and soot underneath. In her short story Faces ,
Paula Dan recounts a tale of a Janus faced man. The story, based on a similar incident
that took place in her mid teens, describes how a seemingly pleasant and caring man
only uses his supposed qualities to blind others of his abusive tendencies. Through
the characterization of Mr. Stavros (aforementioned man) instability, the symbolism
of plants and metaphors, Dan vividly illustrates the concealmentof the indisputable
disorder and obscenities within the Stavros household, no matter how many lies the
flowers feed the eyes of outsiders. When Mr. Stavros is first introduced, he is
described as... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The flowers growing around and decorating Mr. Stavros house are particularly
meaningful in the understanding of Mr. Stavros irrefutable urge to hide and avert
eyes. Preceding his quick command to stop looking at him, Mr Stavros informs the
narrator that his wife, who remained unnamed, was bothered by the fact that the
overgrown flowers engulfed the house. Given that the house symbolizes the family s
dynamics and relationship, hiding it behind these beautiful and pretentious flowers
broadens the notion that the family bears darker secrets behind the petty flora. Mr.
Stavros methods of covering his true nature eventually failed him, and the narrator
discovers that she does not want to partake in his
The Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka
Franz Kafka s, The Metamorphosis, is a novella about Gregor Samsa, a man who
devotes everything to fulfilling the needs of his family. Kafka s existentialist
perspective on the meaning of life is illustrated through the use of the protagonist of
Gregor Samsa. Existentialism is a philosophy concerned with finding self and the
meaning of lifethrough free will, choice, and personal responsibility (Existentialism).
Gregor is unable to fulfill the existentialist view of finding meaning in one s life;
he acted only according to what his family wanted. Kafka s belief that there is no
meaning to life and that the individual has to create his own meaning in life is
entirely missed by Gregor. Kafka uses the juxtaposing mindsets of Gregor and his
family members to express the importance of an individual fulfilling his own needs.
The protagonist of Gregor is meant to resemble Franz Kafka. Out of a sense of duty to
his parents, Kafka took jobs that he did not enjoy. His relationship with his father
remained strained throughout his life; his father s impact can be seen in much of
Kafka s writing (Kafka Birthday: A Letter From Franz Kafka To His Father).
Gregor s relationship with his father is similar to Kafka s relationship with his
father. For most of Kafka s life, he did not live to fulfill his own needs; Kafka was
living under his father s expectations. He was under enormous pressure to become a
successful businessman like his father, but Kafka had a profound love for literature

A Theory Of Careers And Vocational Choice Based Upon...
Holland Codes RIASEC refers to a theory of careers and vocational choice based
upon personality types. Psychologist, John L. Holland, developed the theoretical
framework behind the Holland Codes. Each letter or code stands for a particular
type : Realistic (Doers), Investigative (Thinkers), Artistic (Creators), Social
(Helpers), Enterprising (Persuaders), and Conventional (Organizers). According to
Holland, a three letter code represents a client s overall personality. The test
consists of 48 example tasks that you rate by how much you would enjoy
performing each on a scale of (1) dislike (2) slightly dislike (3) neither like not
dislike (4) slightly enjoy (5) enjoy. The test will take five to ten minutes to
complete. The five personal Style Scales had coefficient alphas that ranged from
.82 to .87 obtained for both the O*NET Interest Profiler and the Interest Finder.
The O*NET Interest Profiler and Interest Finder had very high internal consistency
estimates across all the RIASEC scales. The reliability estimates, ranging from .93
to .96, are very similar across RIASEC scales and interest measures. In Holland s
Theory, consistency refers to the relatedness of types in the obtained code. Pairs of
types next to each other on the Holland Hexagon are more psychologically alike
then pairs father away. If the secondary code is composed of two types next to each
other the code is consistent. This inventory has been professional developed and

How Did The British Invasion Influence People
The British are coming! The British are coming! The Rolling Stones rolled right into
into America during the British invasion with The Beatles and The Who. The Rolling
Stones made it into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and are still touring after about
fifty years from coming to America during the British invasion.
People wonder how the Rolling Stones came to be. The Rolling Stones former
members included Bill Wyman playing the bass, Brian Jones playing guitar as well
as Mick Taylor. The current members of the Rolling Stones are Kieth Richard
playing the guitar, and singing. Mick Jagger, and Ron wood singing also, Charlie
Watts plays the drums. In 1993, after the Steel Wheels/ Urban Jungle tour, Bill
decided it was time for him to retire from the group, he was tired of touring (Loss,
2004). Brian Jones stepped down from his position of the Rolling Stones leader as
Mick Jagger had taken over. Since then, the band got their first U.S. hit in 1964
with a cover for Not Fade Away by Buddy Holly (Norman, 1998). Select critics
followed the British invasion to change the favorite genre of music for American
teens. The British Invasion was a slang term to express the generation of British
bands that were popular in America following The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones in
success. The Beatles and the Rolling Stones were different from other rock ... Show

Malaria In Cuba Essay
Malaria has been a major life threatening disease for thousands of years, and
continues to threaten millions of lives around the world. It infects approximately 219
million people each year, mostly poor women and children. What is striking about
malaria is the fact that it has the worse effect on those with the least ability to fight
the disease. The Republic of Cuba believes that malariaprevention, treatment, and
research efforts must be accelerated to eliminate the burden of this disease across
Africa, Asia, the Americas, and any country or territory at risk of malaria
transmissions.
Due to the fact that there is currently no risk of malaria in the Republic of Cuba,

Christian Ethics Are Too Rigid for Moral Decision Making....
It can be argued, that when referring to the Bible, teachings within it are too rigid for
moral decision making. There are many reasons for this, some which are very
evident, particularly when looking at certain teachings. On the other hand, some
argue that most religious ethics are the right way to approach moral decision making
as these contain the teachings and word of Godso must be correct.
Some of St. Paul s teachings are heavily criticised for being too rigid. For example
if a Christian were to be offered a promotion in a career, but it meant that they were
to take someone else s job and leave them without one, such teachings as, Let your
conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He
Himself has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore these ethics can be seen as too rigid to apply to modern day moral
decisions. In particular many of St. Paul s teachings are arguably sexist. For
instance St. Paul preached that women should not be able to work, and yet today
work between men and women is very equal with certain acts making this possible.
Therefore as previously mentioned, it can be argued that St. Paul s teachings are too
rigid for moral decisions, as they do not take account for the modern day.
Despite this, many argue that some Christian ethics are not too rigid for moral
decision making e.g. situation ethics. It is seen that situation ethics offers moral
maturity and particularly conscience and prayer allows the Christian to have
autonomy. Many Christians today take a liberal approach to moral decision making,
as they are able to adapt the scripture for the particular situation that they are in and
believe that this will achieve the best outcome. However Fundamentalist Christians
will argue that if Christian ethics are too flexible then this could result with no ethics
or guidance in what to do, and Christians will make the wrong moral decisions.
In conclusion, Fundamentalist and Liberal Christians take different approaches to
moral decision making using religious ethics. Fundamentalist Christians will take a
strict legalism approach and abide by rules from God such as the Ten
Commandments, and only act by the

Many major companies are creating their own individual systems to compete for a
share of the market. One example is the Isis system by the major telecommunication
companies (Johnson 2012). Finally, there is a high threat of substitute as consumers
might find it more convenient to simply use cash or swipe their plastic card as
compared to the new mobile payment method (Passy 2012). However, one market
grabbing force is the low bargaining power of suppliers as the merchants supplying
the service would be subjected to lower transaction costs under the PayPal system as
compared to their counterparts (Hamblen 2012). Nevertheless, the bargaining power
of customers in conjunction to new entrants and substitutes remains high, as there are
just too many choices to choose from. Therefore, PayPal and Discover are in an
unfavorable position. Welch s (2012) article talks about how Campbell is innovating

Black Oxen Analysis
1
In Gertrude Atherton s Black Oxen, a man named Clavering falls in love with a
woman who is not what she appears to be. When Clavering first sees Madame
Zattiany, he views her as an object. He refers to her as it rather than she when he
describes her at the beginning of the book. He states that, in spite of its smooth
white skin and rounded contours above an undamaged throat, it was, subtly, not a
young face (Atherton, page 45). Atherton is using Clavering as a vehicle to argue
that men tend to see women as objects. It is easier to defend injustice if one can
dehumanize the opposing side. It seems as if he is taking stock of her features, as
if she were a cow being sold at a market, Clavering is observing her in the hopes of
later devouring her. Clavering sees her and knows she is different because she draws
attention to herself, she doesn t just sit in silence. She simply isn t behaving as
Clavering believes a woman should. There is an uncertainty that comes when
Clavering sees Mary disregarding the manners of the time. Then he observes her in
great detail. His inspection reveals just how superficial Clavering is. He examines
her so thoroughly, as if she was a prized mare at auction: her forehead was perhaps
too high, but it was full, and thick hair was brushed back from a sharp point. Her
eyebrows, thank Heaven, were many shades darker than her hair (Atherton, pages 44
45). It is through these observations that Atherton emphasizes men s obsession with

also found myself at a major standstill, normally in regards to memorizing a script I
found that I try to memorize the smaller chucks first then memorize the longer

that for myself that the opposite would be the crowning victor in this battle. It was
easier for me to memorize the beginning moment of text upon text between Sarah

between Sarah and David, but also between David and Joaquim, as well as anyone

Abstract Today, many organizations struggle with implementing realistic strategies
for growth. More than ever leaders are faced with developing and implementing
strategic plans that promote organizational effectiveness while addressing potential
threats. Through research I have discovered that there are several approaches or
perspectives that leaders can take when developing organizational strategies for
growth. According to Porter, (1996) in regard to strategy organizations Must be

Ultimately, it is organziational theories practiced or studied by leaders that enables
aspired outcomes.
Organizational Theories Organizations have different perceptions of the environment
and how organization environment assists with understanding both theory and
practice. Hatch and Cunliffe s introduction began with explaining some important
terms (theory, concept, and abstract, phenomenon of interest, ontology, and
epistemology) related to organization theory. Hatch and Cunliffe (2006) suggest that
the concepts and theories of a particular perspective offer you distinctive thinking
tools with which to craft ideas about organizations and organizing (p.11).
Organizations have different perceptions of the environment and how organization
environment assists with understanding both theory and practice. Extensive studies
of organizations, with an evaluation of different theoretical perspectives have
contributed to the growing knowledge of organizations. These perspectives have
contributed to our knowledge about organizations. Different perspectives can
individually and collectively help leaders understand and manage organizations in
differently. Managementcan be reserved for internal purposes alone assuming that
classical theories and practices are adequate. But when the external environment is a
factor there isn t an organization that can continue as a closed system. In an

Good And Evil In Thomas Malory s Le Morte D Arthur
In the excerpts from Thomas Malory s Le Morte d Arthur, King Arthur is a complex
character with both good and poor traits. Arthur maintains his symbolic representation
of good throughout the tale, but Malory crafts Arthur s character in such a way that
his weaknesses, or bad traits, shed a rather mortal light upon his character. These
weaknesses, combined with the greatness of Arthur, are eventually what gives way
to the downfall of Arthur. His bad traits reflect much of what we see in ourselves.
Though Arthur is a noble, great, and powerful character, it does not mean that he
may not be a flawed character as well. Arthur, throughout the tales, often falls
victim to his own mortal whims. He is often shortsighted and reckless in his
decision making. An example of this is in Malory s Arthur and Pellinore story
from Le Morte d Arthur, Tell me, said Merlin, Do you prefer the sword or the
scabbard? The sword, said Arthur. You are a fool, said Merlin. The scabbard is worth
ten of the sword, because while you wear it, regardless of how seriously you are
wounded, you will lose no blood (2). Through this... Show more content on

His courage and skill is exemplified by this quote from Malory s Le Morte d Arthur,
If King Arthur s army were the smaller, their courage was the higher, confident they
were of the righteousness of their cause. Without sting they battled through the
burning ships, the screaming wounded, and the corpses floating on the bloodstained
waters. Once ashore, they put Sir Mordred s entire army to flight (232). The fact that
these men s strength and spirit are powered by the belief in King Arthur as their true
king, even though they are outnumbered and more vulnerable, is a great indication of
Arthur s inspiring strength. Arthur is a true, just, and courageous leader. Not only is
Arthur inspiring, but he is also

The above quote is the response of the Financial Times to the best selling novel,
The Wasp Factory , and in my opinion, truer words were never spoken. I myself had
to force the book out of my hands in the early hours of the morning on several
occasions. This clearly says something about the sheer power of Iain Bank s debut
novel. Whether you love it or hate it, once you have read the first page you are
instantly struck by it s brilliance. Throughout this essay, I intend to explore the mind
and characteristics of the main character, Frank Cauldhame.

He in fact likes his brother, and got on well with him, so you may ask why then did
he feel the need to dispose of his brother. Well, according to Frank, the main reason
that he and his brother always got on so well was because he knew from an early
age that he was not long for this world, so Frank had tried to make his time as
enjoyable as possible. Paul is killed by a German bomb that was uncovered by a
powerful storm the night before Paul met his tragic end. However, right up to the
end, Frank is very kind to Paul. His death is quick and painless. Frank tells Paul
that the bomb is a bell, and if he hits it hard enough, a sound will come out. So,
Frank runs to the top of a nearby dune, Paul hits the bomb, it explodes, and Frank s
murder tally rises to two. Frank s main reason for killing his brother at this time is
that he feels that finding the bomb is not only an opportunity, it is a symbol, a sign
that he must obey.
So now to Franks third and final murder, that of cousin Esmerelda. The reason that
Esmerelda dies could be seen as petty by many people, but to Frank, it is valid.
Frank kills Esmerelda because she is a girl. He feels that, since he has already killed
two boys, he owes it to the world to balance it out a bit, and Esmerelda is the
unfortunate female that has been chosen to be disposed of. The most interesting
detail about the murders that Frank has committed is that he

differential gap between the two sisters who come from two different sides of the
world. A lot of differences between the two sisters and their personal lifestyles comes
from one sister living in America as a Chinese American and the other sisterliving in
China. In the story Brave Orchid who is the sister that is brave, outspoken, and
sometimes cruel sees life as a bundle of opportunities to take with no regret.
However, it is different when her sister Moon Orchid comes into town from China
because she is the complete opposite. Moon Orchid is rather humble, timid, and
quiet while she observes the lifestyle of her sister and nieces and nephews. In the
chapter , at The Western Place , Brave Orchid sends for her sister Moon Orchid to
come to America and to confront her husband who is living another life and is
remarried. However, conflict arises as the two sisters have complete opposite
thoughts and personalities. Brave Orchids whose name completely describes her
urges her sister to visit her husband. However, while Moon Orchid is completely
fine without her husband, she feels pressured by her sister to do what was asked of
her. While Brave Orchid is the complete package of what a chinese woman and her
traditions would represent while living the American lifestyle Moon Orchid is rather
surprised by the actions of her sister and nieces and nephews. For
Difference Between PHP And Ruby On Rails
Ruby on Rails versus PHP
PHP and Ruby on Rails are both awesome web languages. Some developers prefer
PHP to Ruby on Rails while others prefer Ruby on Rails to PHP. There are some
reasons that are accustomed to that.
For starters let s understand what they entail:
What is Ruby on Rails and PHP
For starters Ruby on Rails is a framework that has Ruby as its main language. PHP on
the other hand is a web programming language that works with storage, editing,
transmission and integration of databases.
PHP is a language that works with the back end side of a web page or app. It
mainly uses sets of scripts to link one thing and the other. Ruby on the other hand is
a programming language that provides back end solutions to apps or websites. Ruby

Cons of Ruby on Rails
You will need a lot of time and patience to full learn Ruby and learn all its tricks and
tips
Its processing time tends to be slower as compared to other languages.
Yes, it does have some resources but they aren t enough. Thus in trouble shooting
problems you may find it difficult to get a forum that addresses such an issue.
Its updates and development are slow.
Conclusion
PHP and Ruby on Rails are both awesome in building applications and websites.
However they differ in many ways, if you want to learn fast start with PHP. You
should also remember to do regular practice so as to perfect in it. Ruby on Rails
takes more time as you have to setup a lot of stuff before starting the actual coding.
This can be tiresome and take time. Most web servers and hosting companies also
support PHP, unlike Ruby on Rails that is not that flexible. Versus
Learning Ruby on Rails can be very advantageous for anyone, as you will manage to
be on top of the team. Most people know PHP; imagine being unique with your skills
in Ruby, awesome, right?
However much there are differences between the two, you should try them out. They
will definitely change your whole coding
Comparing Pandora s Box And Loo Wit, The Firekeeper
Two famous myths from the ancient world, Pandora s Box and Loo Wit, The
Firekeeper, describe human suffering in their own way. The theme of Pandora s
Box is acting out of revenge will only lead to suffering. The all mighty god, Zeus,
cultivated a plan out of revenge for what Prometheus had done (shown fire to the
humans), Zeus extended his displeasure... It was a scheme which would [affect]... the
whole race of human beings... (Untermeyer 1). It can be implied that Zeus punished
the human race for an act they didn t commit, leading to the fact that humans were at
risk because of Zeus s unforgiving personality. The theme of Loo Wit, The Firekeeper

Compare And Contrast Football And High School Football
Middle school football vs. High school football
How hard do you think high school football is? I m in eighth grade and i was
invited to play for our high school. I can tell you from personal experience that
high school practices are very rough. Of course I was very honored but, it was also
very different. The coaches are rough on you but it is worth it.
First off, you have more freedom in high school. Now what I mean by that is if the
coach calls a play and the quarterback doesn t like it then he can change the play.
But, if the play that the quarterback called fails then we will probably have to run
next practice. Also you can talk during practice unlike in middle school practice.
Their both football but high school football is
Angiotensin-Converting Enzymes
In the modern medical society, scientists/doctors have adopted the use of medicines
known as Angiotensin converting enzymes or ACE inhibitors which are ideal for
treating kidney, blood vessel and heart problems (Updated by: Michael A. Chen,
2015).This particular medicine works by lowering blood pressure and ultimately
manages any disease to prevent it from getting any worse. Often patients with heart
failures will be prescribed with this medicine. This essay will give a detailed
explanation and description of the benefits, side effects as well as the physiological
mechanism of ACE inhibitors.
Mechanisms of Action
How do these inhibitors work? These agents prevent an enzyme from producing

It has also been shown that the utilisation of ACE inhibitors in patients will lower
the incidence of new type 2 diabetes (Gillespie et al., 2005). Trials with a total of
over 60,000 patients have shown the ACE inhibitors reduced symptoms in the
coronary artery disease as well as type 2 diabetes however further results have shown
it had no effect on patients in terms of reducing cardiovascular, cerebrovascular
problems (Gillespie et al., 2005). Conversely other research trials have shown that the
use of Telmisartan inhibitors was able to moderately reduce the risk of strokes,
myocardial infarction and cardiovascular death (Effects of the angiotensin receptor
blocker Telmisartan on cardiovascular events in high risk patients intolerant to
angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors: a randomised controlled trial, 2008). ACE

Cooperation Council (GCC) members and their response to the military burden of
Iran. Quantitative methods are used to test the study s hypothesis. The findings
suggest that the large GCC member (Saudi Arabia) is in military burden at a
greater rate than smaller GCC members. In accordance with the logic of collective
action, I tested the hypothesis that small alliance members will be free riders. I
show that the Vector Auto Regression (VAR) model captures the dynamic feature of
GCC s behavior. The findings show non cooperative behavior among GCC members

Because of this, the Arabian Gulf States should work collectively to fill the power
vacuum and increase the level of security in the Arabian Gulf region. This study
would focus on the effects of free riding on security arrangements among the Arabian
Gulf states. Finally, applying the same framework of the NATOon the Gulf
Cooperation Council (GCC) could help the Gulf States play a larger role in their
region.
There is serious concern for the entire world about the Arabian Gulf security. Iran s
expanding ambition rose to new heights when its nuclear ambitions were revealed to
the world. In fact, Iran s nuclear ambition has alerted regional and international
concerns about the future stability and security. This paper is important because it
will contribute to the existing literature of collective action studies in general and the
Arabian Gulf in particular. This study would provide valuable information to many
stakeholders. First, this research will give scientific predictors of future procedures
that should be taken to improve the regional security. It will also shed light on
identifying the type of course of action to help identify the best policies in dealing
with the security dilemma.
This paper consists of two major sections: First, describe some aspects of the
different concepts of security in the Arabian Gulf region, evaluate a collective action

The Importance Of The Fifth Amendment
Land has been an integral part of culture since the beginning of time. From the
Homestead Act to the modern real estate development age we care about where we
live. We showed in the American Revolution that we are willing to fight for the land
we love. However, under the Takings Clause of the 5th Amendment we are prevented
from this specific action, fighting for something we love. The Takings Clause states,
nor shall private propertybe taken for public use, without just compensation. (US
Const. Amend. V, sec. 3) The fifth amendment fails to protect the individual from the
unjust seizure of land from the government, for there is no clause that allows for
protecting one s land if not compelled to sell. Even when given the right, the
government, as seen through past landmark cases, has a very crooked definition of
public use.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In 1776, the Revolutionary War was fought to gives us the rights and the land we

Case Study Of BCCI Fraud
The Bank of Credit and Commerce International (BCCI) fraud was a major
international banking fraud which resulted in the collapse of the bank in 1991. The
estimated amount involving the fraud was around ВЈ800 million at that time. The
bank was operating in 78 countries with around 400 branches and it attracted mainly
Asian communities as their customers. As a result of the collapse of the bank,
hundreds of thousands of people around the world lost their savings. It also included
local councils such as Western Isles, Westminster City and Harlow. The case attracted
the media spotlight and caused great concern in political circles and in the banking
sector.
The banking practices of the bank were shady and in many parts illegal but its
corporate structure and its active efforts shielded it from any lawsuits in the early
days. Even in later days, it was very hard for regulators to bring BCCI to the book.
However, many public outcry and ethical concerns raised by other parts of the
banking industry made regulators in America and Britain take stock of the situation.
Only after this, BCCI soon came under the scrutiny of numerous national and

In recent years, environmental sustainability has risen to become an everyday
concern. The impact of the current drought and extreme weather events such as
Cyclone Larry on Australian fresh produce supplies has brought into focus the effects
that climate change will have on our business. Paying attention to sustainability is
about future proofing our business.
It s about leadership.
We recognise that Woolworths can take a more prominent role in the debates around
sustainability. It is fair to say that Australian and New Zealand retailers have lagged
behind companies in the United Kingdom and Europe. So we are committed not just
to contributing to the debate but to taking specific, measurable actions to improve
our performance. By virtue of our size, scale, and the complexity of our business,
Woolworths is a significant player in the Australian and New Zealand economies.
With that profile comes not only a responsibility to understand and manage our
impacts, but also a tremendous opportunity to achieve lasting and beneficial change
that extends beyond our own operations. We aim to move to a leadership position on
sustainability.
It s about listening.
As our knowledge of the way in which human societies impact on the natural world
develops, society s expectations of corporate conduct have evolved. Quite rightly,
our stakeholders expect us to consider the broader, long term implications of our
operations as a part of our decision making processes.

The Concepts Of Human Psychology
With each choice you take, each judgment you make, there is a conflict in your
psyche; a fight amongst instinct and rationale. Moreover, the instinctive piece of
your brain is significantly more intense than you may might suspect. The vast
majority of us get a kick out of the chance to believe that we are equipped for settling
on sound choices. We may on occasion depend on our gut nature, however in the
event that essential we can approach our forces of motivation to touch base at a
consistent choice. Usually, we surmise that we have purposes behind what we trust,
that is frequently a misstep.
Prof Daniel Kahneman, from Princeton University, began an inquiry in our
comprehension of the human personality. It s a deep quest and ... Show more content

This quick state of mind is staggeringly effective, yet completely covered up. It is
so intense, it is really in charge of the vast majority of the things that you say, do,
think and accept. We are constrained, we are not immaculate, we are nonsensical in
a wide range of ways but then you have no clue this is going on. This framework is
your concealed auto pilot, and it has its very own brain. It is sometimes known as the
outsider inside. More often than not, our quick, instinctive personality is in charge,
proficiently assuming responsibility of the considerable number of thousands of
choices we make every day. The issue comes when we permit our quick, instinctive
framework to settle on choices that we should disregard to our moderate, consistent
framework. This is the place the oversights sneak in.
Our reasoning is loaded with efficient errors referred to clinicians as intellectual
predispositions and they influence all that we do. They make us spend incautiously,
be excessively impacted by what other individuals think. They influence our
convictions, our sentiments, and our choices, and we have no clue it is going on. It
might appear to be difficult to accept, yet that is on the grounds that your intelligent,
moderate personality is an ace at imagining a main story. The majority of the
convictions or suppositions you have originated from a programmed reaction. In any
case, at that point your legitimate personality designs a

slant, an agar deep, an agar plate, a broth tube. Agar in test tubes can be slanted
while it is solidifying to make a larger surface area to inoculate. Agar deeps, which
aren t slanted, are usually used for stabs inoculation by stabbing a needle with a
sample of the microorganism deep into the agar. This can be useful in determining
if the organism will grow or grows best in the presence or absence of oxygen, and
also for seeing if the microorganism is motile. Agar plates allow the bacteria to be
spread out more, so that isolated colonies can be studied. Broths are often used just
to keep a culture growing, or with the addition of particular substances, to reveal
differences in metabolism. 8. What is the purpose of nutrient media? What is the
difference between a simple (or defined) medium and a complex medium? Nutrient
media provide everything the organism needs to grow. Simple media are made by
mixing up specific chemicals like salts, sugars, and amino acids. Because it is clear
exactly what is in the medium, such a medium is often called a defined medium.
The Protest Song By Charles Albert Tindley
The protest song selected for this report was We Shall Overcome (Various Artists,
1945) written by various artists, with lyrics originating from an older activist s
hymn. This report will cover the history, purpose, lasting effects, and the value of
We Shall Overcome and its predecessor I ll Overcome Someday . We Shall Overcome
the protest song has found itself tied to multiple social movements, however, its
origin has its roots planted in the civil rights movement. After researching about this
song I came across the fact that the lyrics and the style of the song originated from I
ll Overcome Some Day , a hymn created by Charles Albert Tindley, An East Coast
Methodist Minister, in 1901. Charles Tindley was the son of an African American
slave father and free mother. It wasn t until the mid 1940s (ten years after Charles
had passed on, leaving behind a lifetime of community work and activism) that we
see the first rendition of the modern We Shall Overcome as a protest song by a
tobacco and food union group. A few short years later in 1947 this song s title was
recognized as We Shall Overcome in an edition of people s songs bulletin , a
publication directed by Pete Seeger, who is very well known for his rendition of this
song and many others. This song is an anthem, a chant if you will. Its purpose is not
to drag attention to a specific event, such as 41 Shots (Springsteen, 2000) where
Bruce Springsteen emotionally portrays the events of a fatal

There are several organ systems involved with performing or assisting with the action
of typing. The integumentary system acts as a barrier to protect the fingers from
harm or pathogenic agents from the keyboard. Thick skin, such as the skin of palms,
has five skin layers including the stratum basale, stratum spinosum, stratum
granulosum, stratum lucidum, and stratum corneum, in order to protect the fingers
from wear and tear. The integumentary system also provides protection with chemical
barriers such as the acid mantle, which retards bacterial growth; human defensin,
which kills bacteria; and cathelicidins, which prevent infections. Biological barriers
in the epidermis such as Langerhans cells, tissue macrophages that act as antigen
presenting cells, are also present. The integumentary system is also responsible for
cutaneous sensation by sending signals received from Merkel cells in the epidermis
and Meissner s corpuscles in the dermis to the brain via nerves.
The nervous system is in charge of carrying signals from the fingers to the brain,
processing information, and sending signals back from the brain to the fingers. The
nervous system s afferent nerves carry signals from the peripheral nervous system to
the central nervous system, neural integration is carried out by interneurons, and
efferent neurons send signals back from the central nervous system to the peripheral
nervous system. Neurons conduct messages in the form of nerve impulses. They

Dtp Strategy
The current strategies for DPSCS DPP appears could be seen as good match for the
competitive conditions it confronts although there is always room for improvement.
Presently, DPP strategies are based on coordination, cooperation, and safe community.
It is therefore important to point out that strategic planning and its application is the
foundation for the future of organization to tackle competitors. Without strategies,
organization s survival will struggle. Having working strategies is very essential in
organization because it gives intelligibility on where the organization would be in the
nearest future and how is going to get there. This is why having mission, vision,
objectives and values are important for the growth of the organization and for the
purpose of focus for the personnel to have blue print that demonstrate the

utilized by DPSCS DPP. Coordination according to Phillips McConnell (2005) is the
process of integrating activities and balancing tasks so that appropriate actions take
place within the proper physical and temporal relationships. Coordination does not
appear by name in a number of other delineations of the management functions, yet in
all cases it is directly implied in descriptions of the tasks managers perform
strategically. Therefore, well coordinated community supervision would achieve the
vision and the mission of the institution [DPSCS DPP] since coordination among
different partners such as local and federal law enforcement is essential to the
survival of the agency. Hence, DPSCS DPP uses coordination as a strategy for
achieving harmony among personnel efforts toward the accomplishment of agency s

Recycling For A Green Economy
Recycling is a process where waste materials are transformed into new products to
prevent waste of potentially useful materials, reduce the consumption of fresh raw
materials, reduce energy usage, reduce air pollution (from incineration) and water
pollution (from landfilling) by reducing the need for conventional wastedisposal, and
lower greenhouse gas emissions as compared to plastic production.
Steel is the most important material in construction simply because it always
contains recycled content. It is completely recyclable at the end of its product life
and may be recycled an unlimited number of times without loss of quality. Steel is
100% recyclable, which means it can be reprocessed into the same material of the
same quality again and again. Also, it is easily recovered by magnetic separation.
Once steel is produced, its life cycle is potentially endless, making it a permanent
resource for society as long as it is recovered at the end of each product life cycle.
Recycling is especially important in a green economy because it conserves valuable
resources and prevents useful materials going to landfill sites as waste. There are
two main sources of recycled steel, also called steel scrap: excess material from
steel production and downstream manufacturing (pre consumer scrap), and steel at
the end of a product s life (post consumer scrap). All types of steel can be recycled,
including food tins, bottle tops, paint cans, aerosols, scrap metal and even structural
steel
Taking Up A Dark Path
I could count on one hand how many times I drank before college so I wasn t
prepared for what was in front of me. Sitting on my college roommates desk were a
few shot glasses with Burnets. I didn t plan on drinking, but desperate for my
roommate to like me, I accepted a few shots. The alcohol hit me fast and hard and
changed my life forever. Sitting in my desk chair was the girl that would soon be
my best friend for the next year and a half, Savannah. Little did I know, I would go
down a dark path. Every weekend I would party with her. I loved life. My sense of
responsibility and doing what was best for me diminished. I had grown to love the
partying lifestyle and never wanted the party to stop. Around finals everyone was
buying Adderall. I had never done a drug before besides an antibiotic. I took a pill
the day of my Biology exam. I figured Adderall metabolized quickly and left the
body. Dead wrong. I knew nothing about drugs. That night I partied. At first I was
having a blast. I was laughing and dancing my heart out. Three hours later, I lost
all ability to control my legs. I could not feel them nor could I put pressure on
them. The mixture of Adderall and alcohol could have done permanent damage but
at the time I didn t care. I had to be driven home and carried inside. The whole time
I thought the situation was amusing. It was the first time I had ever blacked out.
After Christmas break I was exposed to Marijuana. Since the plant was legal, no

A distal radial fracture is also commonly known as a Colles fracture. This is a
fracture of the distal metaphysis of the radius, which often has dorsal displacement
leading to deformity commonly referred to as a dinner folk deformity. It is caused
due to a fall on the outstretched hand (FOOSH). This type of fracture was first
described by an Irish surgeon, Abraham Colles in 1814 (Radiopaedia, 2014).
Epidemiology
Colles fracture becomes more recurrent with increasing age and occurs more in
women with osteoporosis. This is because osteoporosis is a progressive disease which
in time drastically reduces bone density and micro architectural deterioration of bone
tissue ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The periosteal sleeve is also happens to be much thicker in children than in adults and
acts as a restraint to displacement. The thick periosteal sleeve is important for
pediatric skeletal remodeling.
There is a strong correlation between osteoporosis and a Colles fracture. When a
male patient is diagnosed with a distal radial fracture, it is imperative that correct
tests should be done to eliminate osteoporosis as the patient s risk of a hip fracture
will also increase drastically as demonstrated in many studies (Patient, 2014).
Classification
The radius is a long bone; this means that the bone is longer in length than it is
wide; which aids in mechanical movement of the skeleton. Most skeletal muscle
attaches to bone, therefore when muscles contract and relax, which allows flexion
and extension in the sagital plane. Flexion decreases the angle at the moving joint.
Extension increases the angle at the moving joint. Synovial joints such as the elbow
hinge joint are able to efficiently carry out these motions. The wrist is a classic
example of a condyloid joint, which means it can move on two axes, side to side and
back and forth so on the sagittal and frontal plane.
A Colle s fracture can be extra articular; this is a fracture which does not involve the
joint space therefore it is

Accountability What is accountability? An obligation imposed by law, lawful order,
or regulation of an officer or other person of authority for keeping accurate record
of property, documents, or funds is the best answer I can think of. Now the person
having this obligation may or may not have actual possession of an item they are
accountable for, sensitive item. Accountability is concerned primarily with records,
while responsibility is concerned primarily with custody, care, and safekeeping.
What does accountability mean to the Army? Accountability is a very important part
of an enlisted soldier s job. An enlisted soldier is responsible for a lot of items issued

If one were to obtain the information presented it could be used against friendly

information promote proper operational security and soldier readiness. Not securing
items of sensitive nature acquire the risk of loss by being intercepted by unauthorized
persons. All personnel should maintain accountability of all sensitive material to
allow full utilization by themselves and anyone involved with the mission and still
maintains operational security. Operational security can be compromised through the
loss of sensitive items due to loss of equipment used for operational planning, or
items used for support missions. Depending on the sensitive item that is being

Government. The levels included in the term classified (withheld from general
circulation for reasons of national security) are CONFIDENTIAL (unauthorized

the strength of armed forces or disclosure of technical information about weapons),

security to a more severe degree). With the release of information deemed classified

The Importance Of Enjoying Hi-Res Audio
Hi Res audio is just a fancy way of saying that the music is at a high resolution to
provide the nuances of sound that the artist intended. Enjoying high quality audio is
something that can be done at home and which only requires a minimal adding to of
the components already found in your home theater in order to enjoy a superior
quality soundthat will make new titles, as well as old favorites sound impressive.
So you re sold on the idea, but what has to be set up to make it happen? Here s what
is needed in order to be able to enjoy Hi Res audio.

Essay on David Fletcher Case
This case explores the problems managers face when assembling a team. David
Fletcher, is an overworked portfolio manager of the Emerging Growth Fund at
Jenkins, Fletcher Partners (JFP), an investment management firm in New York. As an
individual, his superior performance throughout his career has earned him an
outstanding reputation. Starting out as a clerk, he rose through the ranks of Wall
Street to eventually manage the two most aggressive mutual funds at a major
investment firm. Success at this firm only added to his reputation and lead to his
current role at JFP, a smaller firm with an informal culture. At JFP, Fletcher is
challenged with the new responsibility of managing a team, in addition to managing
his portfolio.
Despite ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Though Fletcher has enjoyed long term success as a portfolio manager, he stumbles
as a team manager. One example is in his relationship with Stephanie Whitney.
Though he described is as a mentor protГ©gГ© relationship, he admits to having
little time to train her. While he provided her with general career guidance, he
explains that it was her own resourcefulness and initiative that allowed her to ascend
from an administrative assistant position to the role of analyst. This transition, as
noted by one of her colleagues, was difficult for Whitney and she struggled with
establishing her identity as an aspiring portfolio manager. Because of Fletcher s hands
off approach to managing people, Whitney s growth was stifled under his
management, which was a contributing factor to her eventual resignation.
Hiring Brian Doyle without considering how he would get along with Whitney was
another mistake Fletcher made in assembling his team. A seasoned financial
consultant to high technology firms in Silicon Valley, Doyle had frequent contact
with Fletcher over the years and offered valuable industry knowledge. However, he
did not meet Whitney prior to joining the team and it soon became evident to Fletcher
that tension existed between the two. It isn t surprising that Fletcher failed to
consider their compatibility. Being a task oriented person, he only values a person s
performance; getting

Charley s Analysis
In contrast to the Thunder Bay area in Canada, Duluth obtained rail service a decade
prior to Charley s trek, which initiated a flurry of economic activity. However the
Panic of 1873 and the ensuing economic depression reversed many of the initial
gains. Nevertheless, by the time Charley reached the fledgling city, it stood at the
threshold of another surge in population, industry, and wealth.14 The family s oral
history speculates that Charley followed the St. Croix River south from Duluth to
Chisago County.15 This is highly unlikely, since it required an approximately forty
miledetour into Wisconsin to reach the source of the river. Charley probably used

What Is My Favorite Word Essay
Different
I have a few words that I like and live by , but my favorite word is different . It
takes a lot to be yourself in a world that is constantly changing. I love to see people
who aren t afraid of being themselves! The ones who would rather lead the pack than
follow. I think that God created us equally, but with our own unique touch.
In this world, everyone comes from different cultures and backgrounds. The world
is one big melting pot full of unique individuals. If we all were the same life would
be so boring and serve us no purpose. When you first meet someone, what is the first

In real life, we are in Mass Media and we did not even know it. Everything from you

and has taking part is Net Flix. It has made an impact on the movie business where
television can be used to see movies and mass media. Television still has an impact on
cultural meanings. It shows us the news, ads, and movies that change when the culture

Cultural Products such as toy ads and vacation ads cater to children and adults. Most
people feel the same way I feel about the media on television that shows the
commercials that capture the attention to all. Some of us know the commercials
rather than shows and the news it has taken over the culture. I really think that the
ads are better than some shows and anything else that comes on television. It shapes
the culture for children and adults, because it helps to find out your likes and
dislikes. Advantages and Disadvantages of ads is the desire of these products, that
means the commercial can be an advantage for mass media and the culture that help
shape America. Disadvantages of Ads is when it can harm people, have a recall and
consumers do not know. Therefore ads can affect or effect the cultures in America.
Movies has changed America, live in living color, it has showed and expressed the
changes. The media is really the outlet for new movies as well as NetFlix the new
way of seeing movies instead of the theater. The actresses and actors are usually
mobbed by media wanting to know their real life so he comes Reality Television.
Movies are made for any race and any gender in America. It has impacted people so
much that people have changed their lives. It s normal for people to admire stars in
movies. NetFlix has changed the movies industry by marketing movies on the
internet and in rentals. It has made it easier to see movies and
The Existence Of Life And Energy
Order Disorder
Daniel Singh
Engineering and the Profession
Dr. Leo Oriet
Friday, November 7, 2014
Singh 2 The existence of life and energy has always been questioned. It is not clear
as to how life on earth is sustained by energy and how that energy is produced. The
explanation to all of this lies in the law of conservation of energy and the amazing
work done by many intelligent people. Over many centuries, the development of new
technology has furthered studies in science and advanced the standard of life for
many people. The steam engine is one example of this. The creation of the theory on
energy, the works of many scientists, and the theory of entropyexplain how energy is

Energy is always conserved from one item to another, meaning it cannot be created
or destroyed in any way, shape, or form. This is the law of conservation of energy.
Energy from the big blast has been conserved on the earth in plants, minerals, water,
and more. Energy is extremely important to our everyday lives as it is the basis for
all life interaction. All living organisms need energy to sustain life; this energy can
be found in food and water. Plants will receive energy from the sun and humans and
animals will receive energy by eating these plants
Singh 3 as well as meat from other animals. In engineering, energy is what powers
machinery, automobiles, and equipment. Engineers have developed many successful
operations to harnessing and manipulating energy. Fossil fuels, nuclear, hydro, solar,
and wind power are commonly used processes that extract useable energy from the
earth. These processes utilize refineries for fuel, nuclear reactions between atoms,
hydroelectric power stations, solar panels, and wind turbines to convert energy from
the earth to useable potential energy. This in turn powers the machinery used to
harvest food, build structures, and travel from point A to point B. The concept of
energy was in full effect for millions of years; however, it took many skilled
scientists to actually conceptualize it. Gottfried Leibniz was a
Afferent Impulses
1. Neurons composed of three (3) types :
Sensory neurons also called afferent neurons which carries electrical signals from
receptors to the CNS. Motor neurons or the efferent neuron carries impulses from
CNS to effector organs. Interneurons which carry information between sensory and
motor neurons.
Allowing the impulses to travel faster, Nodes of Ranvier is the gap that impulses
travel. Axon terminals are where the neuron makes contact with dendrites with a
receptor or effector. Impulses are transfer from one cell to other cell is known as
synapse. The electrical current travels along the dendrite and axon to the
neurotransmitter when a neuron detects a stimulus of strength. When the stimulus
reached the axon or dendrite, the point of stimulation becomes positive and negative
on the outside. Action potential activates and the area behind the impulse will back to
its resting state once the impulses move along.
2. Possible causes of memory loss are sleep deprivation, depression and stress,
nutritional deficiency, head injury, stroke, dementia, Alzheimer s disease. Causes for
dementia may include blood vessel disease vascular, Parkinson s disease, Huntington

an elastic product price change causes a big change in quantity demanded. An
example of an elastic product is restaurant meals. This is because there are many
substitutes good; instead of a person going out to eat, can make a meal at home.
Inelasticity is 1. For an inelastic product price change causes a small change in
quantity demanded. An example of an inelastic product is gasoline. Inelastic products
are essential and there are no substitutes. After you finished reading the chapter
carefully and took some notes, you should finish off by copying down the formulas. I
copied down the following formulas: price elasticity of demand formula, which is
percent change in quantity demand divided by percent change in price;

  • 2. How Did Fleming Discovered Penicillin Penicillin is an antibiotic medicine used to treat harmful bacteria and infections inside and outside of your body. Alexander Fleming, a bacteriologist, discovered it in the early 1900s. As stated by Brittany Connors on page 125 of The Discovery of Penicillin: The True Story , Fleming often admitted that he discovered Penicillinby accident, and that all of the work was done by nature. Although the finding of this cure may have been an accident, it s use case has helped save many lives and keep many from sickness. There were numerous events that led to the discovery and development of this treatment such as Fleming s messy laboratory, Florey s realization of the medical potential of Penicillin, and Moyer s success in raising the production yield. Many can argue that having a messy laboratory or office is a bad thing, however, it is believed to be the reason why Fleming discovered Penicillin in the first place. As Jesse Lane stated in Not So Dumb Luck , When bacteriologist Alexander Flemingleft for vacation one day in September of 1928, he left a mess in his laboratory. Fleming left petri dishes out in the open, and after some experimentation, he found one with a ring that was bacteriafree and contained the rare mold, Penicillium notatum, which... As production was increased, the price dropped from nearly priceless in 1940, to $20 per dose in July 1943, to $0.55 per dose in 1946 (Bellis). Since the supply was increased, the demand was met and there was more than what was needed. This in turn, drove the price down, making the medication available to people with the lowest income. The development of Penicillin in its later stages released the much needed drug to the masses at an affordable

Emerging From The Restrictive Culture Of The 1950 S Essay Emerging from the restrictive culture of the 1950 s, the counterculture of the 1960s challenged the prescribed norms, roles and expectations of the previous generations that outcasted youth found restrictive and alienating. Baby Boomers retained the abstract goals of mainstream society; they sought individual freedom and opportunities for self determination. But their vision of the American dream widened the traditional definitions of freedom to include bodily, psychological, and political freedoms. 60 s counterculture disagreed with the capitalist, patriarchal, white supremacist foundation of American life and turned against the traditional ideas of american identity in rebellion, seeking freedom and coexistence in an increasingly confined and competitive society. The generation that originated the counterculture of the 60 s, the Baby Boomers, grew up in a highly restrictive culture of uniformity and strict, Anglo Christian morality. 1950 s America was thriving off of a post war economic boom, and American exceptionalist mentality permeated social narratives, ever juxtaposing the US against the faceless enemy of communism and fascism. In 2017, property and construction both account for approximately 15% of the whole economy (share to GDP), with property alone directly impacting around 40 other industries (Chen and Glenn, 2017) with a tendency for the Chinese government to heavily rely on infrastructure development to sustain growth in the long term (Letts, 2017). When ancillary industries are taken into account, the real estate impact on Chinese GDP is estimated to be around 35% (Anderlini, 2015 / Cao, 2014). It is hard to escape the fact that prices are climbing steeply, while rents are not moving much because of recent governmental policies pushing up the number of properties available for rent. Xiamen, for example, is today considered as the city with the most risks of a bubble with 100 years return on investment through rent while it requires 72 year in Beijing (Yangpeng, 2017). c)Construction and urbanization: From 2003 to 2014, the construction sector created 100 billion square feet of floor space, or

  • 7. Summary Of Paula Dan s Short Story Faces Fibber Flowers From the beginning of their days, children are endlessly taught that true beauty lies within, even if the exterior looks rather dull or repulsive. The skeleton of prejudice is based on not wanting something or someone because of one s precomposed perception, despite the fact that the receiver of the prejudice s true identity and character are unknown. Paradoxically, the thin coat of glitter and gold can easily be used to conceal the coal and soot underneath. In her short story Faces , Paula Dan recounts a tale of a Janus faced man. The story, based on a similar incident that took place in her mid teens, describes how a seemingly pleasant and caring man only uses his supposed qualities to blind others of his abusive tendencies. Through the characterization of Mr. Stavros (aforementioned man) instability, the symbolism of plants and metaphors, Dan vividly illustrates the concealmentof the indisputable disorder and obscenities within the Stavros household, no matter how many lies the flowers feed the eyes of outsiders. Preceding his quick command to stop looking at him, Mr Stavros informs the narrator that his wife, who remained unnamed, was bothered by the fact that the overgrown flowers engulfed the house. Given that the house symbolizes the family s dynamics and relationship, hiding it behind these beautiful and pretentious flowers broadens the notion that the family bears darker secrets behind the petty flora. Mr. Stavros methods of covering his true nature eventually failed him, and the narrator discovers that she does not want to partake in his
  • 8. The Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka Franz Kafka s, The Metamorphosis, is a novella about Gregor Samsa, a man who devotes everything to fulfilling the needs of his family. Kafka s existentialist perspective on the meaning of life is illustrated through the use of the protagonist of Gregor Samsa. Existentialism is a philosophy concerned with finding self and the meaning of lifethrough free will, choice, and personal responsibility (Existentialism). Gregor is unable to fulfill the existentialist view of finding meaning in one s life; he acted only according to what his family wanted. Kafka s belief that there is no meaning to life and that the individual has to create his own meaning in life is entirely missed by Gregor. Kafka uses the juxtaposing mindsets of Gregor and his family members to express the importance of an individual fulfilling his own needs. The protagonist of Gregor is meant to resemble Franz Kafka. Out of a sense of duty to his parents, Kafka took jobs that he did not enjoy. His relationship with his father remained strained throughout his life; his father s impact can be seen in much of Kafka s writing (Kafka Birthday: A Letter From Franz Kafka To His Father). Gregor s relationship with his father is similar to Kafka s relationship with his father. For most of Kafka s life, he did not live to fulfill his own needs; Kafka was living under his father s expectations. He was under enormous pressure to become a successful businessman like his father, but Kafka had a profound love for literature

According to Holland, a three letter code represents a client s overall personality. The test consists of 48 example tasks that you rate by how much you would enjoy performing each on a scale of (1) dislike (2) slightly dislike (3) neither like not dislike (4) slightly enjoy (5) enjoy. The test will take five to ten minutes to complete. The five personal Style Scales had coefficient alphas that ranged from .82 to .87 obtained for both the O*NET Interest Profiler and the Interest Finder. There are many reasons for this, some which are very evident, particularly when looking at certain teachings. On the other hand, some argue that most religious ethics are the right way to approach moral decision making as these contain the teachings and word of Godso must be correct. Some of St. Paul s teachings are heavily criticised for being too rigid. In particular many of St. Paul s teachings are arguably sexist. For instance St. Paul preached that women should not be able to work, and yet today work between men and women is very equal with certain acts making this possible. Therefore as previously mentioned, it can be argued that St. Paul s teachings are too rigid for moral decisions, as they do not take account for the modern day. Despite this, many argue that some Christian ethics are not too rigid for moral decision making e.g. situation ethics. It is seen that situation ethics offers moral maturity and particularly conscience and prayer allows the Christian to have autonomy. Many Christians today take a liberal approach to moral decision making, as they are able to adapt the scripture for the particular situation that they are in and believe that this will achieve the best outcome. However Fundamentalist Christians will argue that if Christian ethics are too flexible then this could result with no ethics or guidance in what to do, and Christians will make the wrong moral decisions. • 18. Black Oxen Analysis 1 In Gertrude Atherton s Black Oxen, a man named Clavering falls in love with a woman who is not what she appears to be. When Clavering first sees Madame Zattiany, he views her as an object. He refers to her as it rather than she when he describes her at the beginning of the book. He states that, in spite of its smooth white skin and rounded contours above an undamaged throat, it was, subtly, not a young face (Atherton, page 45). Atherton is using Clavering as a vehicle to argue that men tend to see women as objects. It is easier to defend injustice if one can dehumanize the opposing side. It seems as if he is taking stock of her features, as if she were a cow being sold at a market, Clavering is observing her in the hopes of later devouring her. Clavering sees her and knows she is different because she draws attention to herself, she doesn t just sit in silence. She simply isn t behaving as Clavering believes a woman should. There is an uncertainty that comes when Clavering sees Mary disregarding the manners of the time. Then he observes her in great detail. His inspection reveals just how superficial Clavering is. He examines her so thoroughly, as if she was a prized mare at auction: her forehead was perhaps too high, but it was full, and thick hair was brushed back from a sharp point. Her eyebrows, thank Heaven, were many shades darker than her hair (Atherton, pages 44 45). It is through these observations that Atherton emphasizes men s obsession with the

Arthur maintains his symbolic representation of good throughout the tale, but Malory crafts Arthur s character in such a way that his weaknesses, or bad traits, shed a rather mortal light upon his character. These weaknesses, combined with the greatness of Arthur, are eventually what gives way to the downfall of Arthur. His bad traits reflect much of what we see in ourselves. Though Arthur is a noble, great, and powerful character, it does not mean that he may not be a flawed character as well. Arthur, throughout the tales, often falls victim to his own mortal whims. He is often shortsighted and reckless in his decision making. An example of this is in Malory s Arthur and Pellinore story from Le Morte d Arthur, Tell me, said Merlin, Do you prefer the sword or the scabbard? The sword, said Arthur. The banking practices of the bank were shady and in many parts illegal but its corporate structure and its active efforts shielded it from any lawsuits in the early days. Even in later days, it was very hard for regulators to bring BCCI to the book. The impact of the current drought and extreme weather events such as Cyclone Larry on Australian fresh produce supplies has brought into focus the effects that climate change will have on our business. Paying attention to sustainability is about future proofing our business. It s about leadership. We recognise that Woolworths can take a more prominent role in the debates around sustainability. It is fair to say that Australian and New Zealand retailers have lagged behind companies in the United Kingdom and Europe. So we are committed not just to contributing to the debate but to taking specific, measurable actions to improve our performance. By virtue of our size, scale, and the complexity of our business, Woolworths is a significant player in the Australian and New Zealand economies. With that profile comes not only a responsibility to understand and manage our impacts, but also a tremendous opportunity to achieve lasting and beneficial change that extends beyond our own operations. We aim to move to a leadership position on sustainability. It s about listening. As our knowledge of the way in which human societies impact on the natural world develops, society s expectations of corporate conduct have evolved. Quite rightly, our stakeholders expect us to consider the broader, long term implications of our operations as a part of our decision making processes. It

Moreover, the instinctive piece of your brain is significantly more intense than you may might suspect. The vast majority of us get a kick out of the chance to believe that we are equipped for settling on sound choices. We may on occasion depend on our gut nature, however in the event that essential we can approach our forces of motivation to touch base at a consistent choice. This framework is your concealed auto pilot, and it has its very own brain. It is sometimes known as the outsider inside. More often than not, our quick, instinctive personality is in charge, proficiently assuming responsibility of the considerable number of thousands of choices we make every day. Agar in test tubes can be slanted while it is solidifying to make a larger surface area to inoculate. Agar deeps, which aren t slanted, are usually used for stabs inoculation by stabbing a needle with a sample of the microorganism deep into the agar. This can be useful in determining if the organism will grow or grows best in the presence or absence of oxygen, and also for seeing if the microorganism is motile. Agar plates allow the bacteria to be spread out more, so that isolated colonies can be studied. Broths are often used just to keep a culture growing, or with the addition of particular substances, to reveal differences in metabolism. 8. What is the purpose of nutrient media? What is the difference between a simple (or defined) medium and a complex medium? Nutrient media provide everything the organism needs to grow. Simple media are made by mixing up specific chemicals like salts, sugars, and amino acids. Because it is clear exactly what is in the medium, such a medium is often called a defined medium.

The Protest Song By Charles Albert Tindley The protest song selected for this report was We Shall Overcome (Various Artists, 1945) written by various artists, with lyrics originating from an older activist s hymn. This report will cover the history, purpose, lasting effects, and the value of We Shall Overcome and its predecessor I ll Overcome Someday . We Shall Overcome the protest song has found itself tied to multiple social movements, however, its origin has its roots planted in the civil rights movement. After researching about this song I came across the fact that the lyrics and the style of the song originated from I ll Overcome Some Day , a hymn created by Charles Albert Tindley, An East Coast Methodist Minister, in 1901. Charles Tindley was the son of an African American slave father and free mother. It wasn t until the mid 1940s (ten years after Charles had passed on, leaving behind a lifetime of community work and activism) that we see the first rendition of the modern We Shall Overcome as a protest song by a tobacco and food union group. A few short years later in 1947 this song s title was recognized as We Shall Overcome in an edition of people s songs bulletin , a publication directed by Pete Seeger, who is very well known for his rendition of this song and many others. This song is an anthem, a chant if you will. Its purpose is not to drag attention to a specific event, such as 41 Shots (Springsteen, 2000) where Bruce Springsteen emotionally portrays the events of a fatal

The integumentary system acts as a barrier to protect the fingers from harm or pathogenic agents from the keyboard. Thick skin, such as the skin of palms, has five skin layers including the stratum basale, stratum spinosum, stratum granulosum, stratum lucidum, and stratum corneum, in order to protect the fingers from wear and tear. The integumentary system also provides protection with chemical barriers such as the acid mantle, which retards bacterial growth; human defensin, which kills bacteria; and cathelicidins, which prevent infections. Biological barriers in the epidermis such as Langerhans cells, tissue macrophages that act as antigen presenting cells, are also present. The integumentary system is also responsible for cutaneous sensation by sending signals received from Merkel cells in the epidermis and Meissner s corpuscles in the dermis to the brain via nerves. The nervous system is in charge of carrying signals from the fingers to the brain, processing information, and sending signals back from the brain to the fingers. The nervous system s afferent nerves carry signals from the peripheral nervous system to the central nervous system, neural integration is carried out by interneurons, and efferent neurons send signals back from the central nervous system to the peripheral nervous system. Presently, DPP strategies are based on coordination, cooperation, and safe community. It is therefore important to point out that strategic planning and its application is the foundation for the future of organization to tackle competitors. Without strategies, organization s survival will struggle. Having working strategies is very essential in organization because it gives intelligibility on where the organization would be in the nearest future and how is going to get there. Coordination according to Phillips McConnell (2005) is the process of integrating activities and balancing tasks so that appropriate actions take place within the proper physical and temporal relationships. Coordination does not appear by name in a number of other delineations of the management functions, yet in all cases it is directly implied in descriptions of the tasks managers perform strategically. Therefore, well coordinated community supervision would achieve the vision and the mission of the institution [DPSCS DPP] since coordination among different partners such as local and federal law enforcement is essential to the survival of the agency. Hence, DPSCS DPP uses coordination as a strategy for achieving harmony among personnel efforts toward the accomplishment of agency s vision (Phillips McConnell,
  • 38. Recycling For A Green Economy Recycling is a process where waste materials are transformed into new products to prevent waste of potentially useful materials, reduce the consumption of fresh raw materials, reduce energy usage, reduce air pollution (from incineration) and water pollution (from landfilling) by reducing the need for conventional wastedisposal, and lower greenhouse gas emissions as compared to plastic production. Steel is the most important material in construction simply because it always contains recycled content. It is completely recyclable at the end of its product life and may be recycled an unlimited number of times without loss of quality. Steel is 100% recyclable, which means it can be reprocessed into the same material of the same quality again and again. Also, it is easily recovered by magnetic separation. Once steel is produced, its life cycle is potentially endless, making it a permanent resource for society as long as it is recovered at the end of each product life cycle. Recycling is especially important in a green economy because it conserves valuable resources and prevents useful materials going to landfill sites as waste. There are two main sources of recycled steel, also called steel scrap: excess material from steel production and downstream manufacturing (pre consumer scrap), and steel at the end of a product s life (post consumer scrap). All types of steel can be recycled, including food tins, bottle tops, paint cans, aerosols, scrap metal and even structural steel

This is a fracture of the distal metaphysis of the radius, which often has dorsal displacement leading to deformity commonly referred to as a dinner folk deformity. It is caused due to a fall on the outstretched hand (FOOSH). This type of fracture was first described by an Irish surgeon, Abraham Colles in 1814 (Radiopaedia, 2014). When a male patient is diagnosed with a distal radial fracture, it is imperative that correct tests should be done to eliminate osteoporosis as the patient s risk of a hip fracture will also increase drastically as demonstrated in many studies (Patient, 2014). Classification The radius is a long bone; this means that the bone is longer in length than it is wide; which aids in mechanical movement of the skeleton. Most skeletal muscle attaches to bone, therefore when muscles contract and relax, which allows flexion and extension in the sagital plane. Flexion decreases the angle at the moving joint. Extension increases the angle at the moving joint. Synovial joints such as the elbow hinge joint are able to efficiently carry out these motions. The wrist is a classic example of a condyloid joint, which means it can move on two axes, side to side and back and forth so on the sagittal and frontal plane. The explanation to all of this lies in the law of conservation of energy and the amazing work done by many intelligent people. Over many centuries, the development of new technology has furthered studies in science and advanced the standard of life for many people. The steam engine is one example of this. Fossil fuels, nuclear, hydro, solar, and wind power are commonly used processes that extract useable energy from the earth. These processes utilize refineries for fuel, nuclear reactions between atoms, hydroelectric power stations, solar panels, and wind turbines to convert energy from the earth to useable potential energy. This in turn powers the machinery used to harvest food, build structures, and travel from point A to point B. The concept of energy was in full effect for millions of years; however, it took many skilled scientists to actually conceptualize it. Gottfried Leibniz was a
