An analysis of health management and how my culture intersects health management
was done through the completion of addressing a health topic, creating a best practice
action plan to address the health topic, creating a concept map, interviewing someone
of a different culture as it relates to the health topic and reflecting on my culture and
my health management style. Through this process, I was able to determine how my
culture affects my health decisions, beliefs, and overall management of health.
Health Management
Health can be described as complete physical, mental and social well being and not
merely the absence of disease or infirmity (World Health Organization). Health
management is the maintenance of the individual s health on a small scale, and the
community and population as a whole on a larger scale. Health management is based
on the individual s participation in health practices that include seeking medical
health care, lifestyle choices, an overall belief in one s health status and on the
availability of health care resources.

The health topic to be addressed is exercise. According to the Centers of Disease
Control Prevention, the recommendations for adults as it relates to weekly exercise

A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness is a story of of a middle school boy who is coping
with many problems in his life. I enjoyed and recommend the story, even though it
is sad. The purpose, message, and theme, of courage tie along well together
throughout the book, and will impact who ever reads it. I enjoyed how the story
had both a real element to it and a whimsical element. The purpose of Ness s story
is to inform the reader of what might be going on in someone s life who is losing a
parent. Ness showed me that there s a way to deal with grief and anger, and it is to
face it head on. Even though at parts in the story Conor does not handle his
emotions well, he learns, and faces his truth, that it is hard for him to watch his
mother dying. With all of his hardships he has several excuses to misbehave, but

My Experience At A Children s Camp
The past few days of observation are based upon my final week as a coordinator for
a children s camp. Including my interactions with people as our programs are
winding down and the unexpected realities of what was going on outside of the
camp. In this week I experienced; upward social comparison, availability heuristic,
mortality salience and social cognition.
Upward social comparison I participated in a panel discussing the benefits of
advanced placement classes. In my discussion of my personal experiences, I
talked about comparing myself to my more intelligent classmates. In high school I
felt like I was not as mart as my classmates. I discussed how it made me work
harder, I wanted to be at what I perceived was a higher level. The example in the
book mentioned studies of people using upward social comparison to motivate
themselves to success (pg. 86). As mentioned by the text upwards social
comparison can be a positive tool for motivation. The textbook also spoke about
the dangers of comparing yourself with others if a person does not believe they
can reach what they are aspiring to be. I recognize what the danger in upward
social comparison could be, it would be hard to process failure if you lived your
entire life comparing yourself to others. I do not know if I thought I could reach what
I was comparing myself to, but I believe I benefited from the push. Eventually, I no
longer relied the comparison.

The Trail of Tears was the forced relocation and movement of Native Americans,
including many members of the Cherokee, Muscogee (Creek), Seminole, and
Choctaw nations among others in the United States, from their homelands to Indian
Territory (present day Oklahoma) in the Western United States. The phrase originated
from a description of the removal of the ChoctawNation in 1831.[1] Many Native
Americans suffered from exposure, disease, and starvation while on route to their
destinations, and many died, including 4,000 of the 15,000 relocated Cherokee.[2]
In 1831, the Cherokee, Chickasaw, Choctaw, Muscogee Creek, and Seminole
(sometimes collectively referred to as the Five Civilized Tribes) were living as
autonomous nations in what would be called the American Deep South. The process
of cultural transformation (proposed by George Washington and Henry Knox) was
gaining momentum, especially among the Cherokee and Choctaw.[3] Andrew
Jackson continued the removal of the Native Americans with the passage of the
Indian Removal Act of 1830. In 1831 the Choctaw were the first to be removed, and
they became the model for all other removals. After the Choctaw, the Seminole were
removed in 1832, the Creek in 1834, then the Chickasaw in 1837, and finally the
Cherokee in 1838.[4] After removal, some Native Americans remained in their

emotionally stressed. This shows that stress can make the SCN less responsive to
light. This could explain why some people experiences jetlag and others do not, as
those who do may find flying stressful. However this study lacks validity as rats have
a different physiological makeup to humans, meaning the results found from rats
cannot be generalised to humans and how they behave.
