7. Lesson Objective
God manifests His
mighty power both to
unbelievers and
believers so that they
will confess His
greatness and bow
before Him.
8. 1 Kings 17:1
1 Now Elijah the Tishbite, of Tishbe in Gilead, said
to Ahab, “As the LORD, the God of Israel lives,
before whom I stand, there shall be neither dew
nor rain these years, except by my word.”
9. 1 Kings 17:2-5
2 And the word of the LORD came to him:
3 “Depart from here and turn eastward and hide
yourself by the brook Cherith, which is east of the
Jordan. 4 You shall drink from the brook, and I
have commanded the ravens to feed you there.”
5 So he went and did according to the word of the
LORD. He went and lived by the brook Cherith
that is east of the Jordan.
10. What role does comfort play in your
decisions, especially regarding
obedience to the Lord?
11. 1 Kings 17:6-7
6 And the ravens brought him bread and meat in
the morning, and bread and meat in the evening,
and he drank from the brook. 7 And after a while,
the brook dried up, because there was no rain in
the land.

did not answer him a word.
• Whoever answers by fire is God
• Baal’s turn
• v.26 And they took the bull that was given them, and they
prepared it and called upon the name of Baal from morning until
noon, saying, “O Baal, answer us!” But there was no voice, and
no one answered. And they limped around the altar that they
had made.
15. The Story Continued

offering of the oblation, but there was no voice. No one
answered; no one paid attention.

the people of Israel – and God knew.

your word. Answer me, O LORD, answer me, and that you have
turned their hearts back.”
• God answers with fire and sends rain

23. The One True God: Faithful to Expose Idols
Ezekiel 14:1-5
Then certain of the elders of Israel came to me and sat before me.
And the word of the LORD came to me: “Son of man, these men
have taken idols into their hearts, and set the stumbling block of
their iniquity before their faces. Should I indeed let myself be
consulted by them? Therefore speak to them and say to them,
Thus says the Lord God: Any one of the house of Israel who takes
his idols into his heart and sets the stumbling block of his iniquity
before his face, and yet comes to the prophet, I the LORD will
answer him as he comes with the multitude of his idols, that I may
lay hold of the hearts of the house of Israel, who are all estranged
from me through their idols.
24. What surface idols can you identify
in your life? What are the source
idols at the root? What truth about
God are you suppressing in pursuit
