use the tools available to us to dig deep and
find the beauty, the life and truth in God's

Can never mean what it didn’t mean to the original

 Who wrote it: ???, lots of first person but…
 Joshua and Jesus are the same in Greek
 Yahweh saves
 When was it written: 1400 and 1370 BC, 3400
years ago. Totally different perspective…
 What point is the author trying to convey?
 To whom was it written: To the Nation of Israel
as a history to make a point of who God was,
who the nation of Israel was, the relationship
between obedience and God’s favor and how the
conquest took place.

Can never mean what it didn’t mean to the original

 What style: Historical narrative, prophetic
history/theology. Lays out the good and the bad
with purpose: Pointing towards Jesus.
 Theological perspective of the faithfulness of
God.
 Transitional Book: Things happen for a specific
purpose at a specific time for a specific purpose.
Genocide is tough to look at…God is sovereign and
providential (Romans 9).
 Why was it written:
 The Exodus is over.
 Cause and effect of obedience and disobedience.
