The document discusses various communication methods for evaluating advertising ideas, including mind maps, mood boards, style sheets, layout plans, brainstorming, sketches, and formal proposals. It provides examples of each method and evaluates their strengths and weaknesses. The summarizer found brainstorming and layout plans particularly useful for planning advertisements, while noting challenges with some methods like mind maps that are better for taking notes than showing concepts.

The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.
2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
Embracing GenAI - A Strategic ImperativePeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

2. ASA Codes
Number Name Brief Description
1 Compliance No lying nor breaking the law and don’t include
images that may be considered indecent.
2 Recognition of
marketing
communications
The advert needs to look like an actual advert that
includes logos, slogans and images. State the
product to make sure that people know its an
advert.
3 Misleading Adverts You cannot lie about the product nor of its abilities
or functions and price.
4 Harm and Offence The advert cannot set out to intentionally hurt nor
offend anyone, may that be with offensive images
or phrases.
5 Children You cannot promote dangerous behaviour towards
children, also ensuring that you do not pressure the
viewer to buy the product. (e.g being repetitive.)
6 Privacy If you are including a celebrity or a well known
person then you must have written permission
before using them.
13 Food, food supplements
and associated health or
nutritional claims
You cannot promote poor dietary habits and you also
cannot say that the product has health benefits without
proof to back it up.
6. Mind Map
• Strengths of using this method
– Can take note of ideas
• Weaknesses of using this method
– Will not be able to show what you mean, only describe
things such as colours and font types.
• Did you like using this method? Why?
Using this method is different than the other methods
but I would recommend it if you wanted to note ideas
rather than show them through images and colours. I
liked this method only for taking notes of the types of
stuff that I wanted to include.
8. Mood Board – Slogans (ideas)
1. Take a break, have a coke.
2. Tastes like nothing ever before.
3. Reinventing memories.
4. That hit of nostalgia.
5. This Coke’s for you.
6. The all-round pleaser.
7. Have a Coke under an oak.
8. Quench your thirst.
9. Have a coke with your friends.
10. The great friend maker.
11. Share a coke.
12. Coca Cola. Into It.
13. The drink of your childhood.
14. The flood of happiness.
15. Slow down, have a coke.
16. The sudden rush of goose bumps.
17. Heard you got a coke, let me see?
18. The weathers getting warmer, lets have
a coke.
19. Welcome to the better side of life.
20. Think of your thirst.
21. Your thirst is speaking.
22. Flood it like a Cola wave.
9. Mood Board
• Strengths of using this method
– Could show some of the ideas and could pinpoint of general ideas in
mind. Could fit more on but the other pictures would be smaller,
meaning struggles to viewing the smaller ones. Express creativity.
• Weaknesses of using this method
– One weakness of using this method would be that the space for each
picture varies and couldn’t fit in most things like bigger pictures.
• Did you like using this method? Why?
I liked this method because it can show basic ideas and
creativeness and you can see more of where its going ahead. I
would recommend this method for people who just want to put
down images that inspire them and/or make them think of the
idea that they have in mind. For example; Red and Father
Christmas with Coca Cola, or possibly the mascot.
10. Style Sheet - Fonts - rock and cola
- Give me some sugar
- Bykars
- Janda curlygirl
- True lies
- Antishbusy
- Legacy
- Angelina
12. Style Sheet
• Strengths of using this method
– Get to show the style you wanted and the different fonts
and colour styles and express your creativity and your
ideas more concentrated to the looks of the poster.
• Weaknesses of using this method
- A weakness of using the style sheet is that it may not be
possible nor helpful for people that want an actual preview of
the poster itself. Its just a brief planning method that may
work.
• Did you like using this method? Why?
- I enjoyed using this method as it allows the expression
of creativity and for people to see the different ideas and
colours/fonts that would be used.
13. Layout Plan
Background would be a bold
red colour so the white text can be read from
the poster.
The coca cola mascot
(polar bear will most
likely be used around
Christmas)
The logo in a
big size
A memorable slogan
Possibly use a sponsorship of
an event that could be coming
in the future.
For example; The Olympics or
The World Cup.
Using social media to possibly
see the support and the fans of
the product. People may use
these
as a way to express their opinion
on the product.
May include facts and
figures
of the consumption rate. Coca Cola
is consumed
at the rate
of 1.9
billion
drinks
everyday
14. Layout plans – applications used
With some of the lettering and fonts, I
used
The font generator in the picture on
the left.
This showed that I had a way to
create and make
the font my own and allowed me to
fit it to my
posters look. I would then download a
png of the
font with my specified text and added
it to the
layout plan slide. I would recommend
this
generator as it does more things than
just
downloading a font, etcetera.
15. Layout Plan
• Strengths of using this method
– I think this method is useful as it allows a view of what
the poster or advertisement is going to look like.
• Weaknesses of using this method
– none
• Did you like using this method? Why?
I enjoyed using this method because it allows
people to see the possible outcome and they can
plan what they want on the poster and then they
can make it visible with one of these.
16. Brainstorm
• Sound effects such as opening cans/bottles and
drinking, etcetera.
• Create a song that is memorable with simple lyrics
with the products name within the whole song.
• Create a simple parody with the products name
with popular songs (with written consent.)
• Use famous or noticeable voices of the most
popular celebrities. (with written consent.)
• Use sponsorships and/or a special events like the
Olympics to gain peoples attention
• Use possible giveaways or competitions in the end
or middle of the radio advert, meaning people will
want to buy and could be possibly a winner.
• Use sound effects that remind people of seasons or
special occasions. For example: Summer with
musical festivals. Winter with Christmas.
• Use themes such as Theatre or Movie trailers for
inspiration such as using the classic action movie
trailer voice for introductions.
17. Brainstorm – Possible sound effects
• Winter
– Sleigh bells (linked to christmas)
– Rain pouring
– Wind
– Leaves rustling
– Fire burning in a fireplace
• Autumn
– Wind
– Leaves rustling
– Crunching leaves, people walking on them
– Fire burning/crackling (linked to Bonfire night)
– Raining
– Spooky noises (linked to Halloween)
• Summer
– Laughing and chattering
– Sea waves
– Festival themed music (faint bass)
– Children playing
– Barbecue sizzling
– Bird tweeting
– Cars driving
– Ice being put into a cup
– Drums beating
– People talking
• Spring
– Birds tweeting
– Wind
18. Brainstorm - idea
- Using a summer-themed or maybe a Christmas-
themed (if its near December) popular song as a
faint background noise, then opening a bottle of
coca cola and drinking from it and making refreshed
noises. After a few seconds of the music playing,
“Coca Cola” will be said then the slogan, “Welcome
to the better side of life…” Could possibly add the
price. For example, “Welcome to the better side of
life for only (suggested price).” Add jingles at both
the start and the end.
19. Brainstorm – Possible music
ideas/sound effects
Sound effects: Summer themed
– Bottle opening sounds- Link
– Refreshing Sounds – Link
– People Talking – Link
– Birds tweeting – Link
– Tidal Wave sounds – Link
– Children Playing – Link
– Barbecue noises – Link
Summer themed/pop songs:
– NCS- Fools Gold (idea one) – Link
– Chase Atlantic - Swim (idea two) – Link
– NCS- Remember (idea three) – Link
– Chase Atlantic – Friends (idea four) – Link
– Chase Atlantic - Tidal Wave (idea five) – Link
– NCS - On & On (idea six) – Link
– George Ezra - Shotgun (idea seven) – Link
– Chase Atlantic - Keep It Up (idea eight) – Link
– Chase Atlantic - Know Me! (idea nine) - Link
20. Brainstorm – Winter music/sound
effects ideas
Sound Effects: Winter themed
– Sleigh Bells – Link
– Father Christmas sounds – Link
– Leaves Rustling – Link
– Snow sounds - Link
Winter themed/Christmas songs;
– All I Want For Christmas Is You - Mariah Carey (idea one) – Link
– Justin Bieber - Mistletoe (idea two) – Link
– Dean Martin - Let It Snow! (idea three) – Link
– Last Christmas - WHAM! (idea four) - Link
21. Brainstorm
• Strengths of using this method
– This method is great for jotting down and producing ideas. It is
also great for brainstorming music and sound effects for the
radio advert that you have in mind. It’s best use is for writing
down a bunch of ideas then using a few or more and producing
them into one big idea.
• Weaknesses of using this method
– Not many but if needing to keep it onto one slide and have a
load of ideas, this would become difficult, leading to small text
that is hard to read.
• Did you like using this method? Why?
I liked this method because it put all my ideas and music interests
within the advertisement easily, and kept it all organized.
22. Informal Pitch
• Strengths of using this method
– Strengths of using this method is that with the
feedback you can improve before putting out and
making the final product.
• Weaknesses of using this method
– -
• Did you like using this method? Why?
I liked using this method because it helps me get
information to improve my idea on.
23. Formal Pitch
• Strengths of using this method
– You can promote and explain if the radio advert is
suitable for people of either gender, age, nationality,
ect. You can also describe your idea in detail.
• Weaknesses of using this method
– If unsure about the ideas, this may lead to high
chances of being declined by services.
• Did you like using this method? Why?
I liked using this method because it allows you to
describe and pitch out your idea in much more
detail.
24. Initial Reaction
My initial reaction is that I’m kind of nervous as I
have no idea how to draw in pixels and also
confused as I have no ideas so I would need to
do research on what I want. I’d have to look into
advergames and do some sketches.
25. Initial Reaction
• Strengths of using this method
– This method is helpful to explain how you’re feeling with
the project and how you think it is going to be like. For
example, are you going to get used to drawing in pixels and
how you feel about it.
• Weaknesses of using this method
– This method has a downside as you cannot product ideas
on it and its only helpful with feelings and reactions on
given tasks.
• Did you like using this method? Why?
I am in the middle with this method as it is good to
explain and write out expressions and feelings towards
tasks and not to produce ideas, which is the main thing.
27. Sketches
• Strengths of using this method
– Can sketch and plot out a possible idea using
pixels and create ideas whilst drawing in pixels
• Weaknesses of using this method
– Can be quite hard drawing in pixels.
• Did you like using this method? Why?
I liked using this method although it was hard
drawing in squares rather than free handing it
normally.
28. Formal Proposal
• Strengths of using this method
– You can promote and explain if the advert-game is
suitable for people of either gender, age, nationality, ect.
You can also describe your idea in detail.
• Weaknesses of using this method
– If unsure about the ideas, this may lead to high chances of
being declined by services.
• Did you like using this method? Why?
I liked using this method because it allows you to describe
and pitch out your idea in much more detail.
