The Dada Movement
The Dada movement was an art movement that broke away from the traditional norms of art as well as
the traditional mediums. Mediums like photomontage, photograms(rayographs), and readymade art
pieces were becoming prevalent during this movement. Hannah Höch and Raoul Hausmann were both
prominent artists of the movement that individually had success with their photomontage artworks.
Hannah Hoch s Cut with the Kitchen Knife Dada through the Last Weimar beer Belly Cultural Epoch
of Germany and Raoul Hausmann s ABCD are perfect examples of the purpose of the Dada
Movement. Both Höch s Cut with the Kitchen Knife and Hausmann s ABCD possess several of the
central characteristics, anti war, anti art, and anti bourgeois, that define the Dada movement. ... Show

Hausmann s ABCD is less dense in it s use of cut out pictures and covers a less broad topic. Höch s
piece is a lot more cluttered with images and tries to encompass the whole idea of Dada. her piece is
much more political than Hausmann s piece and has feministic theme through out the entirety of her
artwork s composition. In the center of her collage she has the head of Käthe Kollwitz, radical antiwar
artist, above the dancing ballerina.(2a) Also in the bottom right corner in Dada world Höch has cut out
her head and put in top of a map of Europe where several countries are colored in black, representing
the countries where women still couldn t vote. Hausmann s ABCD has a much more personal theme
that details many of his relationships with fellow artists in Dada as well as his own artworks. Also the
general look of ABCD differs from Höch s piece because it looks more fragmented in how the photos
and items are assembled. None of Hausmann s items seem to belong to a particular space where as
Höch s photos all corroborate with each other in the

Vatican s Involvement In Pope Pius XII
Yes, to an extent, I do believe that the Vatican could have done more especially in terms of Pope Pius
XII s direct involvement . From reading the scholarly work by Conway (1989) and Zuccotti (2005), it
is seen that there has been a lot of criticism as to the Pope s effort to save Jewish people who were
being murdered by the Nazi s prior to and during the holocaust . By looking at Zuccotti s work, it can
be understood that whilst the Church and the Vatican s members did provide shelter to the Jews that
were being attacked, it is seen that there was no instruction from the Pope himself at that time to help
the Jews and thus these members were in essence behaving in a way that they believed would be
approved by the Pope, as part of the

Palace Of Versailles Research Paper
I chose to do a virtual tour of the Palace of Versailles. I am fascinated by the royal family so the Palace
of Versailles is deemed suitable because it is the home of the monarchy of France. I began my virtual
tour of the most famous room known as the Hall of Mirrors. As you walk through the room, you can
see chandeliers after chandeliers lined the center of the ceiling and to the sides. The room is structured
like a barrel vault with round arch windows symmetric to the mirrors reflecting the garden. Golden
sculptures of women are placed in between the mirrors against the marble wall. The vaulted ceilings
are covered with illustrations of the success of France painted by Le Brun. He also decorated the
rooms so his artistic vision can be seen everywhere. My initial reaction of the room was that it is very
elegant and magnificent. I ve never seen anything so spectacular before. Every aspect of the room is a
work of art on its own. The paintings that covered the vaulted ceiling were very ... Show more content

This room is dedicated to the military victories. A wall with King Louis XIV on horseback while
defeating his enemies is one of the focus of the room. Surrounding it were trophies and weapons in
bronze color. Below it was two men chained noting the victory of the king. My interpretation of the
statement that Le Brun was trying to make is that he wanted to show that the king is very successful
during his reign because he defeated his enemies and that he was a very powerful man. The room
focuses on the French victories through illustrations on the ceilings. One painting that caught my eyes
were the one with the army floating on clouds showing their victory against their enemies and the
people were celebrating. I was fascinated by this painting because the people had wings and it looked
so mystical. The art is very similar to some characters of mythology and I really like that. The painting

Doe Season Symbolism
Doe Season is a short story written by David Michael Kaplan. David Michael Kaplan was born in
1946 in New York. He started his writing career in 1985 with his first novel Skating in the Dark, and
wrote Doe Season in 1987. He is identified in the writing community as a magical realist and receives
most of his influence from magical realist elements like interweaving magical elements with detailed,
realistically drawn everyday setting. Kaplan wrote this book as a coming of age story of a girl starting
to become a woman. This is a critical analysis of the short story Doe Season by observing and
identifying different key elements within the story. The main characters in this story are Andy, Andy s
father, and Andy s mother. Andy is a young ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The title Doe Season could be translated to the female time. Doe meaning female and season meaning
time. The female time is symbolic because it refers to Andy and how it is almost the end of her
innocence, or childhood, and the beginning of becoming a women. Another piece of important
symbolism in this story are the woods. To Andy, the woods symbolize safety. Andy knows the woods
and is comfortable in the woods. When Andy is running in the woods from the dead doe she start to
hear the sounds of the ocean, this symbolizes her leaving her innocence, and her comfort and going
towards womanhood, the unknown that is the ocean. The ocean reminds her of her mother when her
top came off in the ocean and she saw her mother s breasts. She knows that one day she will also have
breast like her mothers and will become a women, but this is unknown, scary area for Andy. During
the second night after Andy shot the doe, she has a dream. In her dream there is an instance where
Andy pressed deeper, through flesh and muscle and sinew, until her whole hand and more was inside
the wound and she had found the doe s heart . This symbolizes the guilt that Andy has from shooting
the doe. The doe symbolizes Andy s innocence and by killing the doe she feels that innocence is gone
and that is transitioning into adulthood. She come to this scary realization this near the end of the story
and runs

Watergate Complex After The Watergate
On an ordinary morning of June 17, 1972, five burglars were caught in the Watergate complex after
signs of breaking in were found on the doors. No one at that time knew this subtle crime would lead to
the greatest scandal in the US history and the resignation of the current President, Richard Nixon.
Evidences later showed that the Watergate Incident was only a mere part of the ugly crimes the Nixon
Administration had committed to achieve their ultimate goal of reelection, and Nixon had
intentionally attempted a cover up to save his reputation. The Watergate incident had inflicted a deep
suspicion inside the US citizens toward the government, especially the President, because during his
terms, Nixon had obstructed justice and refused to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Afraiding the report would damage Nixon s credibility, because it revealed that the government was
lying to its people about the US troop populations in Vietnam, the Plumbers broke into the office of
the psychiatrist of Daniel Ellsberg with the attempt of finding embarrassing documents that would
discredit Daniel. They failed, however, and Daniel was exonerated from all of the charges after the
break in was uncovered. The Watergate Burglary was also a mission given to the Plumbers to monitor
the democratic party. However, in the morning of June 17, 1972, the Plumbers were caught inside the
Watergate complex, and their address books showed that they are connected to the White House.
There is no direct evidences that Nixon had ordered the Watergate burglary, but what he had done
subsequently was just as despicable. Nixon had directed a criminal cover up of the Watergate incident
to destroy evidences, interfere investigations, and annihilate scandals that would lead the Watergate
Incident to himself, because it was CRP, his organization, that had funded the burglars the Post
reported in August 1972 that a $25,000 check designated for CRP actually went to pay for the
Watergate burglary (the Post). Two months after the burglary, Nixon declared that his counsel, John
Dean, had conducted a complete investigation of all leads and subsequently concluded that no one in

Thomas Ellis The Dinner
Each chapter in the book is a different event that Ellis looks at in attempt to prove his thesis. One of
the arguments Ellis uses is from the chapter The Dinner. During Thomas Jefferson s dinner party,
Madison agreed to permit the core provision of Hamilton s fiscal plan to pass; and in return Hamilton
agreed to use his influence to assure...the national capital would be on the Potomac River (Ellis 49).
Hamilton did what had to be done and gave Madison the location of the capital, in return for his plan
being passed. It was not morally correct for Jefferson to broker this compromise. In fact later Jefferson
himself concluded that...the bargain made...with Hamilton was the greatest political mistake of his life
(Ellis 51). This was a strong

The Mayor Of Casterbridge Critical Analysis
Thomas Hardy s The Mayor of Casterbridge establishes the new trends of society, by contrasting
Michael Henchard and Donald Farfrae as polar opposites in his portrayal of the rising new generation.
Using the actions of the main characters Michael Henchard and Donald Farfrae, the novel depicts the
change in society as a new modern industrial culture integrates itself into the traditional agrarian
society. Modern beliefs about marriage and technology rival pre existing tradition that has been rooted
in Casterbridge. The industrial revolution stands as a time marker in history where a growing rift
occurred between traditional and modern lifestyles. The revolution brought more than just industrial
changes, it also brought along a new era of cultural differences that would disturb current society. The
underlying changes come from the social effect of industrialization: the breaking up of the old social
units and social relationships (Hartwell 242), these changes occur in Casterbridge between Michael
Henchard and Donald Farfrae. Although Henchard and Farfrae are both successful farmers and grain
investors, their methods of gaining success differ as Farfrae adapts new technologies while Henchard
holds to old beliefs.
Michael Henchard typically sticks to the most conventional ways of farming and sustaining his
business, his firm hold on the past represents the hold of agrarian culture as it slips away from
evolving society. Casterbridge itself is another symbol of the past as the

The Mystic Tradition Of Zen Buddhism
First of all I will discuss the mystic tradition of Zen Buddhism and its various components. I have
never thoroughly researched Zen Buddhism before engaging in the Spirituality and Research Methods
class that is being taught by Professor Scott at Texas Tech University. Therefore a formal definition of
Zen is a : Japanese sect of Mahayana Buddhism that aims at enlightenment by direct intuition through
meditation (Merriam Webster, Incorporated, 2017). Additionally an article I examined articulated that
Zen is the most recognized form of Buddhism that has been used in the Western world. There are
about 9.6 million Zen Buddhists who live in the country of Japan and this form of mysticism has
spread to other Western countries over ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This form of mysticism remained in a very simplistic form up until the twelve century A.D. In
addition Zen is an ancient form of conduct that has been seamlessly transferred from master to pupil
stemming from the emergence of an individual who was called Siddhartha Gautama. This individual
was also known as Buddha and he lived over two thousand five hundred years ago and permanently
resided in the country of India. Zen has been strongly dictating the main stream culture of Japan for
many generations. The Zen priests partook in an intricate role during the governmental upheaval
which occurred during the sixteenth century in the country of Japan. They engaged in the dual roles of
both representatives and overseers during this particular conjecture of time which resulted in
conserving Japan s cultural identity. There were multiple divisions of Zen that were implemented
during the ninth century in the country of China. The Rinzai school of Zen was brought to Japan by a
Chinese spiritual leader by the name Ensai during 1191. The influential teacher Ensai also reiterated
that Zen is responsible for protecting the provinces of Japan and devoted followers should engage in
benediction and prayer. Rinzai Buddhism emphasizes the use of Koans, paradoxical puzzles or
questions that help the practitioner to overcome the normal boundaries of logic (Religionfacts.com,
2004). Therefore Soto Buddhism is an extra division of

Analysis Of The Grand Vienna Hotel
Director Wes Anderson and writer Stefan Zweig come together to bring this epic adventure to life. The
Grand Budapest Hotel is a narrative driven master piece of cinema set in 1932. Mr. Gustave played by
Ralph Fiennes, is a legendary concierge who befriends a new lobby boy Zero played by Tony
Revolori. Gustave and Zero set out on an adventure together after his love Madame D. is found
murdered. Anderson has come a long way since his short film Bottle Rocket, but the success of that
movie at the Sundance Film Festival set him on a path to greatness. Andersons continued success is
contributed to his cinematography style. Let me say experiencing all of Wes Anderson s body of
works, this is by far my favorite film to date. I was mesmerized by the Grand Budapest Hotel itself, as
one of the prominent center points the hotel shines. Anderson takes his acclaimed cinematography
style and makes the hotel a shining star. Every frame features architecture and color pallet of soft
oranges, pinks, and yellows bringing about a certain look of luxury. One camera trick I found I was
the use of windows, hallways, and doors in every scene, and camera positions taking full advantage of
those spaces and shapes. The story moves from the hotel where Zero is learning his day to day duties
as a lobby boy. The death of Gustave friend is seen in the newspaper, and the adventure begins. The
tight close shots on board the train, while the narrator updates the story, keeps the audience in
suspense. The

Literary Theory By Jonathan Culler Theory And Literary...
Aim The aim of this paper is to check which of the terms Theory or Theories can be used in literary
studies. Objective An attempt has been made in this paper to check which of the above mentioned
terms is more applicable in literary studies using Jonathan Culler s Literary Theory: A Very Short
Introduction (1997). Argument In this paper I argue that the term Theory is applicable more in literary
studies. Introduction The word theory has been derived from, Greek word, theoria , which means
looking, viewing or beholding . The word has been used in English since the late 16th century.
Modern use of the word theory are derived from the original definition, but have taken ... Show more

. . (Culler 2) What does theory mean here? First, theory signals speculation . Secondly, My theory is
that . . . also claims to offer an explanation that is not obvious. But generally, according to Culler, to
count as a theory, not only must an explanation not be obvious; it should involve a certain complexity.
A theory must be more than a hypothesis: it can t be obvious. Theory involves some complex relations
of systematic kind among a number of factors; and it cannot be easily confirmed or disproved. If one
bears all these factors in mind, it becomes easier to understand what goes by the name of theory .
Theory as genre Works that are regarded as theory have effects beyond their original field. Theory in a
sense is not a set of methods for literary study but it is an unbounded group of writings about all things
under the sun, from the most technical problems of academic philosophy to various ways which

John Calvin on God s Divine Providence Essay
John Calvin on God s Divine Providence
In John Calvin s Institutes of the Christian Religion he spends a great deal of time expounding his
doctrine of God s Divine providence in all of creation. He explains not only how God continually
governs the laws of nature, but also how God governs man s actions and intentions to bring about His
own Divine Will. Calvin believes that God s providence is so encompassing in creation that even a
man s own actions, in many ways, are decreed by God. Because of this belief there arises the question,
Does Calvin leave room for the free will of man? At the outset I must make clear that Calvin defines
Providence as this: providence means not that by which God idly observes from heaven what ... Show

He believes that God s act of creation did not stop after He created man, but continues all throughout
the past, present and future. Calvin not only believes that God cares for all of man and animals, but
directs the weather and excersises His power over inanimate objects. Calvin even goes so far as to
argue that the movement of the sun, moon, stars, and planets is continued by God s power and not by
some energy that was given to them at the beginning of creation, which carnal sense would tell us
(Calvin 197). He does not believe that God sits back and watches or allows things in nature to happen,
but actually causes them to happen. For example, if there was a drought one summer it was caused by
God, possibly part of His vengeance or wrath. Or, if the crops flourished the next summer it was also
His plan. Likewise, let us say per chance (no pun intended) a man is walking along a mountain pass
and some rocks fall and kill him. For Calvin this was not an accident, but a determination and the Will
of God. Calvin s ideology of God s Providence in nature is summed up in this quote:
And truly God claims, and would have us grant him, omnipotence not the empty, idle, and almost
unconscious sort that the Sophists imagine, but a watchful, effective, active sort, engaged in ceaseless
activity. Not, indeed, an omnipotence that is only a general principle of confused motion, as if he were
to command a river to flow through its once appointed channels, but one that

is my favorite sport, and I think it s better than basketball because, a soccer game does not take longer
compare to a basketball game. I also think soccer is the best because, it has other spots in it that you

players, both sport have two teams, and the team has a captain and in a likely manner both team
players earn good money. Those two sports are great sport, but there has to be one that is better than
the other. I know what it is, it s soccer because soccer is the most popular sport in the world, and
basketball fall in top 10 most popular sport, but it s at 9th place. I also say soccer is better than
basketball because if it wasn t then, it wouldn t have been the most popular sport in the world. Soccer

The Role Of Imperialism In Catalonia

Country s Imperialism:
Catalonia
The country of Catalonia, located in Europe, is a country that every single person would like to visit.
Visitors time at this well constructed, rather small country would be a great experience when coming
to their spiritual, physical, and mental health. However, the country is going to imperialize the country
of Spain because the people of Catalonia are demanding to be just like Spain. The country is going to
travel on small boats until they reach the coast of Barcelona, Spain. The main objects that the country
of Catalonia is after are Spain s land, resources, and their trade connections. Although the country of
Catalonia already has all of those three objects and connections in their country, they just want to

Socially, taking over Spain brought major changes in agriculture growth, population increase, and
trade. In the agriculture industry, the people were able to grow their own crops and learn from the
Spanish plantation workers. With the help of the Spanish farmers, the Catalonian people ate healthier
crops that would eventually let them take in all the natural vitamins and build their bodies stronger.
Catalonians learned from the Spanish knew to work hard and establish determination to be successful.
In addition, Catalonia has gained political power from conquering Spain. For instance, the people
decided that they would rather be ruled by a king and queen. King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella made
the decisions that they wanted to rule the people of Catalonia. With their rule came prosperous laws
and changes that would benefit the people and country as a whole. The Catalonia people were

The Cloning of Humans
You can t will a maxim where there is a diminishment of human dignity. Cloning humans with
identical genetic makeup to act as organ donors for each other is a diminishment of human dignity.
Therefore, cloning of humans is immoral.
Human cloning is a practice which includes taking an egg from a human female, removing the
nucleus, substituting it with the genetic material from the nucleus of another adult cell, and using
electric shock or chemical bath to hoax the egg into thinking it has been fertilized. The egg then starts
to divide, becoming a human embryo. This process marks a step toward turning the creation of human
life into something that can be seen as a kind of manufacturing process where human beings are
created in laboratories on demand, and to certain specifications.
According to the University of Utah Health Sciences cloning animals through somatic cell nuclear
transfer is just ineffective. The success rate ranges from 0.1 percent to 3 percent, which means that for
every 1000 attempts, only one to 30 clones are made. This is a major diminishment of human dignity
if to clone a human could take a 1000 tries. This will make humans worth nothing if we clone so much
and kill so many clones. There are many reasons for these bad results like the enucleated egg and the
transferred nucleus may not be well suited, the planting of the embryo into the surrogate mother could
fail, or the pregnancy itself could fail. The extremely high rate of death and the risk of

The Democratic Party And The Whig Party
During the time periods between the 1830s and 1840s, two political parties: the Democratic party and
the Whig party had faced the challenges among their ideological differences on the role of federal
government in the economy and the westward expansion, but did compromise in certain ways. The
one party system of Monroe s presidency had led to the creation of a two party system under the
presidency terms of Andrew Jackson. The supporters of President Jackson were known as the
Democrats and the supporters of Henry Clay and Daniel Webster, rivals of Jackson, came to be known
as the Whigs. The Democrats were influenced by Thomas Jefferson, whereas the Whigs were
influenced by Alexander Hamilton. The Democrats were in favor of states rights and opposed the
growth of a powerful central government. Democrats also favored in rapid territorial and external
growth. The Whigs were in favor of a stronger federal government that was dominated by Congress.
Whigs also favored gradual territorial expansions and internal improvements. In future reference, the
Democratic and Whig party created the two political parties in which we see today, the Democratic
and Republican Party. To start off, Henry Clay and the Whigs ... developed a platform called the
American System, which advocated increased powers for Congress; strong central control over
foreign affairs and military issues; high tariffs and a national bank to build the economy; and extensive

The World Tourism Organization ( Untwo )
The world tourism organisation (UNTWO) states: tourism comprises the activities of persons
travelling to and staying in places outside their usual environment for not more than one consecutive
year for leisure, business and other purposes not related to the exercise of an activity remunerated
from within the place visited. Throughout this essay the concept of tourism will be discussed using a
systems approach as well as using Neil Leiper s basic whole tourism system (Leiper, 2004) theory.
The vulnerability of the open tourism system to periodic disruption will also be looked at through the
example of The September 11th 2001 terrorist attacks on The United States of America. 9/11 as it is
referred to today, was an event that shocked the world. Four airplanes were hijacked by the Islamic
extremist group, al Qaeda, and carried out suicide attacks in the United States. Over 3,000 people
were killed because of these attacks as well as the tourism industry suffering worldwide and the
American employment and economy declining significantly.
The tourism system is complex. Tourism has been analysed using a systems approach since the 1960s
the idea that a single structure is comprised of multiple related and dependent groups. Key to this
approach is the idea of interdependence; because everything is related, a change in one component of
the system will affect other components in the system. Neil Leiper designed a basic whole tourism
system (Leiper, 2004) that showed tourism

The significance of the Common Man in A Man For All Seasons.
==============================================================
I have decided to explore how Bolt uses the Common Man to emphasise the features of the major
characters and to illustrate the main themes of the play. I will also explore the role the common man
plays in the structure of the play and his effect on the audience.
The Common Man is the only character who speaks directly to the audience, which I think is
important as it means they can feel part of the play: there is interaction between the audience and
actors. This communication may increase the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Common Man s comments on the characters may also raise moral issues amongst the audience.
For example, the Common Man remarks on More s wilful indifference to realities. In one sense the
audience may agree with this as they may feel More does not take a very realistic approach to
government. This is illustrated in scene two, when More and Wosley are discussing the divorce, they
may feel that Thomas s ideal to govern the country by prayer is not very practical. Wosley: you d like
that wouldn t you? To govern the country by prayer? More: Yes I should
However, others may disagree with the Common Man and think that More is realistic in judgement.
For example, he ensures his family does not know any information they could be asked about in court,
to make sure they stay out of danger. Therefore the common man is significant in the sense that his
commentary has an effect on the audience: his judgements may cause the audience to ask themselves
if Thomas More deserves the title A Man For All Seasons?
Because this play deals with events that actually occurred (eg: the reformation of the church) and
people who actually lived, the common man plays a significant role in telling us the real events of the
time, which relate to the plot. For example, in Act

Ulcerative colitis is classified as a chronic inflammation that involves only the large intestine. In UC,

in the inner most lining of the colon. Compared to UC, Crohn s disease is characterized by skip

The main concern of physicians is to help patients regulate their symptoms and immune system better,
through diet, medication, and possibly surgery. Although the food a person eats doesn t trigger the
diseases, it can help control aggravation of symptoms. It s important to maintain a healthy and
soothing diet that helps reduce your symptoms, replace lost nutrients, and promote healing. Many
people find that soft, bland foods cause less discomfort than spicy, fatty or high fiber foods.
Medication such as, steroids and antibiotics would be prescribed to treat symptoms of diarrhea,
abdominal pain, and inflammation. As I stated above the first concern of physicians is get their

nicotine patches are still being examined to show any relief of symptoms for people with UC, while

A. Colonialism in North America
England s desire for economic gain and religious freedom sparked the beginning of their interest in
colonialism in America (Gouch, LeGuin, Walton, 1998). While some settlers came to America in
search of gold or other riches, the Puritans that settled the Massachusetts Bay Colony came to escape
religious persecution and have freedom to worship as they desired. In 1630, over a thousand Puritans
arrived, being led by a lawyer named John Winthrop. All English settlers were required to set up

The British, unwilling to give up their rule, even went as far as to demand that Colonist pay for the
protection of the British Army and Navy. The Colonist felt since they had no representation in the
British parliament, they owed nothing. When no agreement could be reached a revolution was
inevitable (Joes, 1996).
Another cause of the American Revolution was the desire of the colonists to have freedom of religion
and the determination of England that the colonist must remain true to the Church of England.
Puritans, a religious group who came to the colonies seeking freedom of religion, wanted to remain a
part of the Church of England, but develop their own style of worship. Another more radical religious
group, Separatists, wanted a complete break from the Church of England. The goal of both of both the
Puritans and the Separatists was to have the freedom to express religious beliefs without fear of
persecution by the church or government. England remained firm that the colonist must follow the
practice of the Church of England with no variation ( Annenberg Learner, 2013).
B2. Indian Independence Movement
The general cause of the Indian Independence Movement was India s desire for independence from
British, French and Portuguese Rule. The aim of the movement was Swaraj, a self governing India

5 x 36 = 180 Jeremy has 5 strips each is 36 in long so 5 x 36 = 180 The next thing we have to do is
find the perimeter of the small triangle that comes out to be 58 in. The rectangles are similar so..
perimeter of big rectangles equals scale factor times perimeter of small rectangle equals scale factor
times 58 it results with 4.5. the perimeter of the big rectangle is 261. so now all we do is use addition
for the perimeters which is what gave you the total length then use subtraction for 180 the answer
comes out to be 139 Based off the picture I can assume that it will expand by the factor of one over
four then it s probably going to become 25 percent larger. Instead of TU crossing the x axis at one it s
going to be at 1.25. As far as the relationship i m not 100% positive if it s going to expand to at least

Colin Powell Pros And Cons
Who is Colin Powell? He is a retired four star General in the United States Army. He was also the 65th
United States Secretary of State (2001 2005), serving under President George W. Bush. Powell was
the first and only African American to serve in that position to date and was an exemplary leader of
many facets. Colin Powell has spent a majority of his life serving our Nation and is a decorated Army
veteran. Powell developed 18 principles in Leadership based off of his experiences and these
principles could be applied to develop better Leaders. I feel that I could relate to several of his
principles but the three that I identify with the most are you don t know what you can get away with
until you try, don t be afraid to challenge the pros, even in their own backyard and lastly to have fun in
your command.
Colin Powell s principle that states you don t know what you can get away with until you try sticks out
to me the most because it s how I ve lived my life thus far. My favorite quote is to ask for forgiveness

Electing A New Chief Essay
Why would you go through the trouble of electing a new chief when you can just stick with me,
Ralph? Why would you risk people having new conflicts that were not existing before? Why would
you (rhetorical question) change the entire system of things when everything is working? I am not
sure why anyone would want to elect a new chief when you have a perfect contender right in front of
you. In the past, I might have gotten a bit carried away with the fact that we were going to be rescued,
but now I have come to reality and have better plans for us. I have both the mental abilities as well as
physical abilities, which make me the best candidate for chief. I am the best candidate for chief

Australian Car Manufacturing Industry Comes to an End
Introduction
It is believed that the Australian car manufacturing industry has come to an end. The following essay
will argue that the government should not provide finances to save the automotive manufacturing
industry. There is a continuous debate between the shareholders of the automotive businesses and the
Australian citizens on what should be done with this issue. In order to determine the strength of the
argument, the following essay will completely analyze relevant information; examine the affects of
moving production to overseas, why production is being moved? Take a look at who is to blame and
what the media says should be done?
The car manufacturing industry is a large enterprise and supplies employment for more than 45,000
people and indirectly employs nearly 200,000 (Cassin, 2013). However it is believed that the
Australian government should not provide funds to the car manufactures, Australia cannot compete
with the larger automotive manufacturing countries. The statistics of 2013 show that, 1.13 million cars
were sold, out of that figure just over 100,000 were purchased locally made. This tells us that less than
10% of Australian s actually bought an Australian manufactured car (Smith, 2014). If we aren t going
to buy them who will?
Affects of moving production?
It is assumed that the Australian car production industry employs more than 200,000 jobs indirectly
(Cassin, 2013). Therefore moving production overseas will cut a massive hole in the employment

Monae s Metropolis Saga
Monae s Metropolis Saga uses the cyborg as a metaphor for the oppressed, using cyborg bodies as a
stand in for black bodies and consequently drawing connections between the state of blackness and the
state of being cyborg. Monae herself speaks of her decision to choose an android because the android
to [her] represents the other in our society. (Kot 1) This is made specific to blackness when, in the
Metropolis Saga, Cindi time travels to the 20th and 21st centuries and is reborn as Janelle Monae,
becoming black rebels throughout history; accordingly, the line between cyborg ontology and black
ontology is blurred as she jumps between the two. Monae, additionally, describes cyborgs as neon

If for Monae, black bodies are cyborg bodies, cyborg bodies have existed throughout history and
cannot be situated solely in the future. Consequently, Metropolis as a city centered around Cindi s
black cyborg body cannot be temporally alienated from history, and must reckon with it. More than
that, though, Metropolis itself is not just a vision of the future but of the past, a transhistorical
metaphor of oppression and liberation. This differs from traditional science fiction cyborg
representations because for Haraway and many others, the cyborg exists within a future world.
However, for Monae, the cyborg has always existed in the form of black bodies, and the science
fiction world serves only to illuminate this. Accordingly, the transhistoricality is the only way that a
cyborg can be raced and allows a raced cyborg to recognize and grapple with the dark history that
birthed it for Cindi, this means time traveling to literally participate in, change, and solve her history.
Perhaps this is best expressed by the name of Monae s upcoming album, presumably containing the
last two suites of the Metropolis Saga, Dirty Computer. The computer is the android; however, the
android retains its dirt, the dirt being the dark and dirty history of racializations and blackness her
cyborg refuses to be pristine and reject that history, instead

Constitutional Death Penalty
A question that has been asked since the foundation of our country was made is, Can the death penalty
be considered Constitutional? Thomas Jefferson was known to have written letters with the same
topic. Now only thirty one states, along with the federal government, still believe that the death
penalty is within the boundaries of the Constitution. Twenty executions of the death penalty occurred
last year, 2016, and approximately 1500 have since the 1970s (Pennekamp). The primary argument
against the death penalty is it can be considered as cruel and unusual punishment. The term, cruel and

The Fifth Amendment states, No person shall...nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due
process of law (The Constitution). While it says no person can be deprived of life it also says, without
due process of law . In order for a criminal to even be considered for receiving a death penalty
sentencing, they must have committed a crime in proportion to the punishment. This means for
someone to even be considered for receiving the death penalty they must have committed murder. The
U.S. Supreme Court has determined that a penalty must be proportional to the crime; otherwise, the
punishment violates the Eighth Amendment s prohibition against cruel and unusual punishments.
(Staff). The Supreme Court will take into account multiple factors of a case, including non
circumstantial evidence (evidence that definitely points to those accused), to decide whether or not a
case is deserving of the death penalty. There are policies in place to protect minors and the mentally
handicapped from receiving the death penalty as a sentencing. And according to Aaron Pennekamp, a
former clerk for the Supreme Court, it is more likely for someone who has committed a felony murder
to receive the death penalty, and it is the most likely for someone who murdered a police officer to.
So, is the death penalty Constitutional? Yes, it is Constitutional as a whole and in the way that it is
conducted. The death penalty is within the guidelines of both the Fifth and Eighth Amendments. As

Five Year Plans reflected Lenin s ideas of giving priority to industries such as hydro electric power,
coal, iron, steel ships, railways, and machinery. However, this first plan failed due to falls in food and

Abstract The aim of this experiment was to evaluate the influence of various chemicals on the
senescence of cut carnations (Dianthus caryophyllus). Treatments involved included a control bleach

A great hero from Europe or a man with only himself and his people in mind? Many people believe
that he was a hero whose discoveries lead to the possibilities we have in America today, while many

in America today. What would someone like me see in Columbus discoveries and enslavements? He
introduced the Europeans to new products and ways of financial expansion. Even though Columbus

The discovery of the Americas also allowed new trading options and financial expansion which
benefited all of Europe.
What great length would one man go to for himself and his people? Although Columbus discoveries
offered more trade and financial gain for Europe and himself, the consequences were more deadly
than the gain could ever be fruitful for the natives. With the grazing animals that the Europeans
brought over to the natives, also came a drop in vegetation which decreased their food supply. With
the exchange of goods between the Europeans and the natives there was also an exchange of diseases.
With the diseases such as smallpox, mumps, measles, and whooping cough, also came another called
death. With these diseases spreading through the native villages, fifty to ninety percent of the native
population died. With the decrease in native population also can a decrease in their resistance and
ability to fight off the Europeans. Columbus began to think of the natives as future slave laborers.
Many unsuccessful attempts were made to enslave the natives but each failed and Columbus gave up
and started looking toward the West Africans. They began kidnapping Africans and bringing them
over by ship to the Americas. Many died during the voyages and the ones that survived became slaves
and worked in the Americas.

What a copy editor does with a draft of a story going to print:

  • 2. The Dada Movement The Dada movement was an art movement that broke away from the traditional norms of art as well as the traditional mediums. Mediums like photomontage, photograms(rayographs), and readymade art pieces were becoming prevalent during this movement. Hannah Höch and Raoul Hausmann were both prominent artists of the movement that individually had success with their photomontage artworks. Hannah Hoch s Cut with the Kitchen Knife Dada through the Last Weimar beer Belly Cultural Epoch of Germany and Raoul Hausmann s ABCD are perfect examples of the purpose of the Dada Movement. Both Höch s Cut with the Kitchen Knife and Hausmann s ABCD possess several of the central characteristics, anti war, anti art, and anti bourgeois, that define the Dada movement. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hausmann s ABCD is less dense in it s use of cut out pictures and covers a less broad topic. Höch s piece is a lot more cluttered with images and tries to encompass the whole idea of Dada. her piece is much more political than Hausmann s piece and has feministic theme through out the entirety of her artwork s composition. In the center of her collage she has the head of Käthe Kollwitz, radical antiwar artist, above the dancing ballerina.(2a) Also in the bottom right corner in Dada world Höch has cut out her head and put in top of a map of Europe where several countries are colored in black, representing the countries where women still couldn t vote. Hausmann s ABCD has a much more personal theme that details many of his relationships with fellow artists in Dada as well as his own artworks. Also the general look of ABCD differs from Höch s piece because it looks more fragmented in how the photos and items are assembled. None of Hausmann s items seem to belong to a particular space where as Höch s photos all corroborate with each other in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Vatican s Involvement In Pope Pius XII Yes, to an extent, I do believe that the Vatican could have done more especially in terms of Pope Pius XII s direct involvement . From reading the scholarly work by Conway (1989) and Zuccotti (2005), it is seen that there has been a lot of criticism as to the Pope s effort to save Jewish people who were being murdered by the Nazi s prior to and during the holocaust . By looking at Zuccotti s work, it can be understood that whilst the Church and the Vatican s members did provide shelter to the Jews that were being attacked, it is seen that there was no instruction from the Pope himself at that time to help the Jews and thus these members were in essence behaving in a way that they believed would be approved by the Pope, as part of the ... • 4. Palace Of Versailles Research Paper I chose to do a virtual tour of the Palace of Versailles. I am fascinated by the royal family so the Palace of Versailles is deemed suitable because it is the home of the monarchy of France. I began my virtual tour of the most famous room known as the Hall of Mirrors. As you walk through the room, you can see chandeliers after chandeliers lined the center of the ceiling and to the sides. The room is structured like a barrel vault with round arch windows symmetric to the mirrors reflecting the garden. Golden sculptures of women are placed in between the mirrors against the marble wall. The vaulted ceilings are covered with illustrations of the success of France painted by Le Brun. He also decorated the rooms so his artistic vision can be seen everywhere. My initial reaction of the room was that it is very elegant and magnificent. I ve never seen anything so spectacular before. Every aspect of the room is a work of art on its own. The paintings that covered the vaulted ceiling were very ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This room is dedicated to the military victories. A wall with King Louis XIV on horseback while defeating his enemies is one of the focus of the room. Surrounding it were trophies and weapons in bronze color. Below it was two men chained noting the victory of the king. My interpretation of the statement that Le Brun was trying to make is that he wanted to show that the king is very successful during his reign because he defeated his enemies and that he was a very powerful man. The room focuses on the French victories through illustrations on the ceilings. One painting that caught my eyes were the one with the army floating on clouds showing their victory against their enemies and the people were celebrating. I was fascinated by this painting because the people had wings and it looked so mystical. The art is very similar to some characters of mythology and I really like that. The painting was very powerful in conveying the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Doe Season Symbolism Doe Season is a short story written by David Michael Kaplan. David Michael Kaplan was born in 1946 in New York. He started his writing career in 1985 with his first novel Skating in the Dark, and wrote Doe Season in 1987. He is identified in the writing community as a magical realist and receives most of his influence from magical realist elements like interweaving magical elements with detailed, realistically drawn everyday setting. Kaplan wrote this book as a coming of age story of a girl starting to become a woman. This is a critical analysis of the short story Doe Season by observing and identifying different key elements within the story. The main characters in this story are Andy, Andy s father, and Andy s mother. Andy is a young ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The title Doe Season could be translated to the female time. Doe meaning female and season meaning time. The female time is symbolic because it refers to Andy and how it is almost the end of her innocence, or childhood, and the beginning of becoming a women. Another piece of important symbolism in this story are the woods. To Andy, the woods symbolize safety. Andy knows the woods and is comfortable in the woods. When Andy is running in the woods from the dead doe she start to hear the sounds of the ocean, this symbolizes her leaving her innocence, and her comfort and going towards womanhood, the unknown that is the ocean. The ocean reminds her of her mother when her top came off in the ocean and she saw her mother s breasts. She knows that one day she will also have breast like her mothers and will become a women, but this is unknown, scary area for Andy. During the second night after Andy shot the doe, she has a dream. In her dream there is an instance where Andy pressed deeper, through flesh and muscle and sinew, until her whole hand and more was inside the wound and she had found the doe s heart . This symbolizes the guilt that Andy has from shooting the doe. The doe symbolizes Andy s innocence and by killing the doe she feels that innocence is gone and that is transitioning into adulthood. • 6. Watergate Complex After The Watergate On an ordinary morning of June 17, 1972, five burglars were caught in the Watergate complex after signs of breaking in were found on the doors. No one at that time knew this subtle crime would lead to the greatest scandal in the US history and the resignation of the current President, Richard Nixon. Evidences later showed that the Watergate Incident was only a mere part of the ugly crimes the Nixon Administration had committed to achieve their ultimate goal of reelection, and Nixon had intentionally attempted a cover up to save his reputation. The Watergate incident had inflicted a deep suspicion inside the US citizens toward the government, especially the President, because during his terms, Nixon had obstructed justice and refused to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Afraiding the report would damage Nixon s credibility, because it revealed that the government was lying to its people about the US troop populations in Vietnam, the Plumbers broke into the office of the psychiatrist of Daniel Ellsberg with the attempt of finding embarrassing documents that would discredit Daniel. They failed, however, and Daniel was exonerated from all of the charges after the break in was uncovered. The Watergate Burglary was also a mission given to the Plumbers to monitor the democratic party. However, in the morning of June 17, 1972, the Plumbers were caught inside the Watergate complex, and their address books showed that they are connected to the White House. There is no direct evidences that Nixon had ordered the Watergate burglary, but what he had done subsequently was just as despicable. Nixon had directed a criminal cover up of the Watergate incident to destroy evidences, interfere investigations, and annihilate scandals that would lead the Watergate Incident to himself, because it was CRP, his organization, that had funded the burglars the Post reported in August 1972 that a $25,000 check designated for CRP actually went to pay for the Watergate burglary (the Post). Two months after the burglary, Nixon declared that his counsel, John Dean, had conducted a complete investigation of all leads and subsequently concluded that no one in the White House staff ... During Thomas Jefferson s dinner party, Madison agreed to permit the core provision of Hamilton s fiscal plan to pass; and in return Hamilton agreed to use his influence to assure...the national capital would be on the Potomac River (Ellis 49). Hamilton did what had to be done and gave Madison the location of the capital, in return for his plan being passed. It was not morally correct for Jefferson to broker this compromise. • 8. The Mayor Of Casterbridge Critical Analysis Thomas Hardy s The Mayor of Casterbridge establishes the new trends of society, by contrasting Michael Henchard and Donald Farfrae as polar opposites in his portrayal of the rising new generation. Using the actions of the main characters Michael Henchard and Donald Farfrae, the novel depicts the change in society as a new modern industrial culture integrates itself into the traditional agrarian society. Modern beliefs about marriage and technology rival pre existing tradition that has been rooted in Casterbridge. The industrial revolution stands as a time marker in history where a growing rift occurred between traditional and modern lifestyles. The revolution brought more than just industrial changes, it also brought along a new era of cultural differences that would disturb current society. The underlying changes come from the social effect of industrialization: the breaking up of the old social units and social relationships (Hartwell 242), these changes occur in Casterbridge between Michael Henchard and Donald Farfrae. Although Henchard and Farfrae are both successful farmers and grain investors, their methods of gaining success differ as Farfrae adapts new technologies while Henchard holds to old beliefs. Michael Henchard typically sticks to the most conventional ways of farming and sustaining his business, his firm hold on the past represents the hold of agrarian culture as it slips away from evolving society. • 9. The Mystic Tradition Of Zen Buddhism First of all I will discuss the mystic tradition of Zen Buddhism and its various components. I have never thoroughly researched Zen Buddhism before engaging in the Spirituality and Research Methods class that is being taught by Professor Scott at Texas Tech University. Therefore a formal definition of Zen is a : Japanese sect of Mahayana Buddhism that aims at enlightenment by direct intuition through meditation (Merriam Webster, Incorporated, 2017). This form of mysticism remained in a very simplistic form up until the twelve century A.D. In addition Zen is an ancient form of conduct that has been seamlessly transferred from master to pupil stemming from the emergence of an individual who was called Siddhartha Gautama. This individual was also known as Buddha and he lived over two thousand five hundred years ago and permanently resided in the country of India. Zen has been strongly dictating the main stream culture of Japan for many generations. The Zen priests partook in an intricate role during the governmental upheaval which occurred during the sixteenth century in the country of Japan. They engaged in the dual roles of both representatives and overseers during this particular conjecture of time which resulted in conserving Japan s cultural identity. There were multiple divisions of Zen that were implemented during the ninth century in the country of China. The Rinzai school of Zen was brought to Japan by a Chinese spiritual leader by the name Ensai during 1191. The influential teacher Ensai also reiterated that Zen is responsible for protecting the provinces of Japan and devoted followers should engage in benediction and prayer. Rinzai Buddhism emphasizes the use of Koans, paradoxical puzzles or questions that help the practitioner to overcome the normal boundaries of logic (Religionfacts.com, 2004). • 10. Analysis Of The Grand Vienna Hotel Director Wes Anderson and writer Stefan Zweig come together to bring this epic adventure to life. The Grand Budapest Hotel is a narrative driven master piece of cinema set in 1932. Mr. Gustave played by Ralph Fiennes, is a legendary concierge who befriends a new lobby boy Zero played by Tony Revolori. Gustave and Zero set out on an adventure together after his love Madame D. is found murdered. Anderson has come a long way since his short film Bottle Rocket, but the success of that movie at the Sundance Film Festival set him on a path to greatness. Andersons continued success is contributed to his cinematography style. Let me say experiencing all of Wes Anderson s body of works, this is by far my favorite film to date. I was mesmerized by the Grand Budapest Hotel itself, as one of the prominent center points the hotel shines. Anderson takes his acclaimed cinematography style and makes the hotel a shining star. Every frame features architecture and color pallet of soft oranges, pinks, and yellows bringing about a certain look of luxury. One camera trick I found I was the use of windows, hallways, and doors in every scene, and camera positions taking full advantage of those spaces and shapes. The story moves from the hotel where Zero is learning his day to day duties as a lobby boy. The death of Gustave friend is seen in the newspaper, and the adventure begins. The tight close shots on board the train, while the narrator updates the story, keeps the audience in suspense. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Literary Theory By Jonathan Culler Theory And Literary... Aim The aim of this paper is to check which of the terms Theory or Theories can be used in literary studies. Objective An attempt has been made in this paper to check which of the above mentioned terms is more applicable in literary studies using Jonathan Culler s Literary Theory: A Very Short Introduction (1997). Argument In this paper I argue that the term Theory is applicable more in literary studies. Introduction The word theory has been derived from, Greek word, theoria , which means looking, viewing or beholding . The word has been used in English since the late 16th century. Modern use of the word theory are derived from the original definition, but have taken ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... . . (Culler 2) What does theory mean here? First, theory signals speculation . Secondly, My theory is that . . . also claims to offer an explanation that is not obvious. But generally, according to Culler, to count as a theory, not only must an explanation not be obvious; it should involve a certain complexity. A theory must be more than a hypothesis: it can t be obvious. Theory involves some complex relations of systematic kind among a number of factors; and it cannot be easily confirmed or disproved. If one bears all these factors in mind, it becomes easier to understand what goes by the name of theory . Theory as genre Works that are regarded as theory have effects beyond their original field. • 12. John Calvin on God s Divine Providence Essay John Calvin on God s Divine Providence In John Calvin s Institutes of the Christian Religion he spends a great deal of time expounding his doctrine of God s Divine providence in all of creation. He explains not only how God continually governs the laws of nature, but also how God governs man s actions and intentions to bring about His own Divine Will. Calvin believes that God s providence is so encompassing in creation that even a man s own actions, in many ways, are decreed by God. Because of this belief there arises the question, Does Calvin leave room for the free will of man? He believes that God s act of creation did not stop after He created man, but continues all throughout the past, present and future. Calvin not only believes that God cares for all of man and animals, but directs the weather and excersises His power over inanimate objects. Calvin even goes so far as to argue that the movement of the sun, moon, stars, and planets is continued by God s power and not by some energy that was given to them at the beginning of creation, which carnal sense would tell us (Calvin 197). He does not believe that God sits back and watches or allows things in nature to happen, but actually causes them to happen. For example, if there was a drought one summer it was caused by God, possibly part of His vengeance or wrath. Or, if the crops flourished the next summer it was also His plan. Likewise, let us say per chance (no pun intended) a man is walking along a mountain pass and some rocks fall and kill him. For Calvin this was not an accident, but a determination and the Will of God. Calvin s ideology of God s Providence in nature is summed up in this quote: And truly God claims, and would have us grant him, omnipotence not the empty, idle, and almost unconscious sort that the Sophists imagine, but a watchful, effective, active sort, engaged in ceaseless activity. Not, indeed, an omnipotence that is only a general principle of confused motion, as if he were to command a river to flow through its once appointed channels, but one that ... Cloning humans with identical genetic makeup to act as organ donors for each other is a diminishment of human dignity. Therefore, cloning of humans is immoral. Human cloning is a practice which includes taking an egg from a human female, removing the nucleus, substituting it with the genetic material from the nucleus of another adult cell, and using electric shock or chemical bath to hoax the egg into thinking it has been fertilized. The egg then starts to divide, becoming a human embryo. This process marks a step toward turning the creation of human life into something that can be seen as a kind of manufacturing process where human beings are created in laboratories on demand, and to certain specifications. According to the University of Utah Health Sciences cloning animals through somatic cell nuclear transfer is just ineffective. The success rate ranges from 0.1 percent to 3 percent, which means that for every 1000 attempts, only one to 30 clones are made. This is a major diminishment of human dignity if to clone a human could take a 1000 tries. This will make humans worth nothing if we clone so much and kill so many clones. There are many reasons for these bad results like the enucleated egg and the transferred nucleus may not be well suited, the planting of the embryo into the surrogate mother could fail, or the pregnancy itself could fail. Throughout this essay the concept of tourism will be discussed using a systems approach as well as using Neil Leiper s basic whole tourism system (Leiper, 2004) theory. The vulnerability of the open tourism system to periodic disruption will also be looked at through the example of The September 11th 2001 terrorist attacks on The United States of America. 9/11 as it is referred to today, was an event that shocked the world. Four airplanes were hijacked by the Islamic extremist group, al Qaeda, and carried out suicide attacks in the United States. Over 3,000 people were killed because of these attacks as well as the tourism industry suffering worldwide and the American employment and economy declining significantly. The tourism system is complex. Tourism has been analysed using a systems approach since the 1960s the idea that a single structure is comprised of multiple related and dependent groups. Key to this approach is the idea of interdependence; because everything is related, a change in one component of the system will affect other components in the system. I will also explore the role the common man plays in the structure of the play and his effect on the audience. This communication may increase the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Common Man s comments on the characters may also raise moral issues amongst the audience. For example, the Common Man remarks on More s wilful indifference to realities. In one sense the audience may agree with this as they may feel More does not take a very realistic approach to government. This is illustrated in scene two, when More and Wosley are discussing the divorce, they may feel that Thomas s ideal to govern the country by prayer is not very practical. Wosley: you d like that wouldn t you? To govern the country by prayer? More: Yes I should However, others may disagree with the Common Man and think that More is realistic in judgement. For example, he ensures his family does not know any information they could be asked about in court, to make sure they stay out of danger. Therefore the common man is significant in the sense that his commentary has an effect on the audience: his judgements may cause the audience to ask themselves if Thomas More deserves the title A Man For All Seasons? The Colonist felt since they had no representation in the British parliament, they owed nothing. When no agreement could be reached a revolution was inevitable (Joes, 1996). Another cause of the American Revolution was the desire of the colonists to have freedom of religion and the determination of England that the colonist must remain true to the Church of England. Puritans, a religious group who came to the colonies seeking freedom of religion, wanted to remain a part of the Church of England, but develop their own style of worship. Another more radical religious group, Separatists, wanted a complete break from the Church of England. The goal of both of both the Puritans and the Separatists was to have the freedom to express religious beliefs without fear of persecution by the church or government. • 32. Cut Carnations Lab Report Abstract The aim of this experiment was to evaluate the influence of various chemicals on the senescence of cut carnations (Dianthus caryophyllus). Treatments involved included a control bleach (0.01% sodium hypochlorite) solution, a diluted sucrose solution (1% sucrose in 0.01% sodium hypochlorite) and a concentrated sucrose solution (3% sucrose in 0.01% sodium hypochlorite), with 4 trials for each treatment. Results showed the most effective solution for prolonging the life of cut carnations was the 3% sucrose solution, as flowers in this solution spend longer times in stages of senescence while only reaching the withering stage of senescence. It can then be said that higher concentration of sugar solutions promotes cut flower longevity. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Ethylene sensitivity determines flower longevity and its presence accelerates senescence. I would use a solution of boric acid, and a boric acid/sucrose solution (with 0.01% sodium hypochlorite), to see the effects of just boric acid, and the mixed solution to see the effects of an ethylene inhibitor combined with a nutrient/energy source and antimicrobial agent. Other experiments have showed the use of floral preservatives containing sucrose and ethylene inhibitors delay petal senescence, decrease ethylene sensitivity and improve aesthetic characteristics (Ebrahimzadeh et al., ... The discovery of the Americas also allowed new trading options and financial expansion which benefited all of Europe. What great length would one man go to for himself and his people? Although Columbus discoveries offered more trade and financial gain for Europe and himself, the consequences were more deadly than the gain could ever be fruitful for the natives. With the grazing animals that the Europeans brought over to the natives, also came a drop in vegetation which decreased their food supply. With the exchange of goods between the Europeans and the natives there was also an exchange of diseases. With the diseases such as smallpox, mumps, measles, and whooping cough, also came another called death. With these diseases spreading through the native villages, fifty to ninety percent of the native population died. With the decrease in native population also can a decrease in their resistance and ability to fight off the Europeans. Columbus began to think of the natives as future slave laborers. Many unsuccessful attempts were made to enslave the natives but each failed and Columbus gave up and started looking toward the West Africans. They began kidnapping Africans and bringing them over by ship to the Americas. Many died during the voyages and the ones that survived became slaves and worked in the Americas. What could the prospect of becoming rich do to a person not to mention a country? The countries that funded the explorers are just at fault ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
