Chiquitas Global Turnaround
Executive Summary
This report details several international management problems that Chiquita has been faced with over
the past two decades. Many of these problems are to do with the company s previously poor image
when it came to Corporate and Social responsibility. Over the years Chiquita faced many accusations
about the conditions workers were faced with at many of their facilities in Latin America and have
also had their environmental policies questioned many times in the press. The company has made
great strides in recent years in improving their public image with regards to corporate and social
responsibility. In particular Chiquita s commitment to the Better Bananas Project has helped improve
their public image along with the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, in 1998 Chiquita fell a victim of an undercover investigation into dangerous and illegal
business practices. The Cincinnati Enquirer, a paper based in Kentucky, accused the company guilty of
labour, human rights, environmental and political violations in central America, leaving an unsavoury
impression of our company according to Jeff Zalla, current corporate responsibility officer at Chiquita.
(Luthans, F., amp; P. Doh, J. 2012).
The centre of the debate about the CSR is the nature and extent of corporate obligations that extend
beyond the economic and legal responsibilities of the firm. The idea of social responsibilities supposes
that the corporation has not only economic and legal obligations, but also certain responsibilities to
society which extend beyond these obligations (McGuire, 1963: 144). The issue is therefore critical
for the firm as it is in the business s long term self interest to be socially responsible. If Chiquita wants
to have a healthy climate in which to function in the future, it must take actions now to ensure its long
term viability. Ultimately it will benefit the company by winning the public because the public believe
firms should take on social responsibility.

Sustainability Initiatives A Demonstration Of Corporate...
What are the cost benefits for corporations leading sustainable efforts in their communities and should
corporations be financially responsible for the environmental disturbances that they cause, be it
directly or inadvertently? More specifically are the efforts of Wal Mart to implement sustainability
initiatives a demonstration of corporate social responsibility or just greenwashing? Relevant to these
questions we hypothesis that despite the multitude of efforts that are resulting in some groundbreaking
policies for an Oligopoly such as this, that the fact that they still source, manufacture and distribute
products in a manner that is unsustainable which makes these collective efforts an example of social
greenwashing. Investopedia ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Is this truly a serious initiative for Walmart to use their size for good or is this just greenwashing?
Since their CSR plan announcement Walmart has been making progress towards achieving those goals
but many don t think it s enough or realistically sustainable for the long run. Walmart has received
backlash for their slow adoption of renewable energy, it s cheap products, and it s little progress on
their sustainability index (Gunther, M., 2011). One of Wal mart s initiatives intended to address some
of their inimical externalities is to convert to 100% renewable energy to power their stores. An article
published in 2011 stated that Walmart was powered by only 2% of renewable energy and the ILSR
came out with a report stating less than 2% of renewable energy powers Walmart stores. People were
not impressed with this minimal progress and pointed out that other companies like Starbucks and
Kohls use more renewable energy than Walmart. It was also pointed out that Wal mart is a huge
multinational corporation and that a process like this will take time, especially if they re trying to
avoid raising their costs, which in turn would not benefit the customers. However, in 2013 it was
reported that Wal Mart s 10,800 stores are powered by 21% of renewable energy, which is a decent
amount of growth from

A Perfect Day For Bananafish Short Story
Experience, which destroys innocence, also leads one back to it. James Baldwin. A Perfect Day for
Bananafish by J.D. Salinger, and Home by George Saunders depicts the search the protagonists,
Seymour and Mikey, go through to retrieve their innocence that they once lost while fighting in the
war. Fighting in any war is absolutely terrifying and can leave permanent damage on someone forever
emotionally and mentally, thus leading them to lose their innocence. The effects that the war has left
on them and how it impacts their lives are visible in multiple ways. Both short stories A Perfect Day
for Bananafish and Home demonstrate the criticism against the materialistic world, the barriers to
effective communication and the elusive search for childhood and home. To begin with, A Perfect Day
for Bananafish and Home reveal the judgment against the materialistic society by Seymour s
realization of his wife constantly luxuriating in wealth and how he condemns his respective society,
and by Mikey expressing his anger towards his materialistic society due to the actions of his family,
and the differences in wealth. A Perfect Day for Bananafish features Seymour who has returned home
from World War II to his materialistic and superficial wife, Muriel. He notices how she constantly
paints her nails, wears a white silk dressing gown, and uses exquisite leather luggage. She washed her
comb and brush...She moved the button on her Saks blouse. (J.D. Salinger). Seymour finds

Kid Kustomer Essay
Kid Kustomers
No matter where children are or what they are doing they ll always find some sort of advertisements.
It can be when their casually watching television, reading a magazine or just playing games on their
computer. Advertisements are different forms of communication whose purpose is to make their
product known to the public. Marketers aren t partial to certain people; they target anyone and every
age group, but recently there has been an upsurge of advertisements aimed towards children. In Eric
Schlosser s article, Kid Kustomers, he demonstrates how child advertising has boomed by the tactics
marketers use to get children to want and demand certain companies products. The big boom in child
advertisement occurred in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Schlosser refers to the Joe Camel ad campaign, which used a hip cartoon character to sell cigarettes. A
1991 study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association found that nearly all of
America s six year olds could identify Joe Camel, who was just as familiar to them as Mickey Mouse.
Interestingly enough, another study found that one third of cigarettes illegally sold to minors was in
fact Camels. Not only do advertisers need a way to get kids to want their product, they also need
children to be able to persuade their parents into buying them that product. The concept of children
persuading other people to buy them what they want is known as the surrogate salesmen. James U.
McNeal s, professor of marketing at Texas A M University, classified kids nagging tactics into seven
major categories; pleading, persistent, forceful, demonstrative, sugar coated, threatening, and pity
based appeals. Kids learn what appeal or style works best on their parents and stick to that ploy
whenever they want something. Observing children in their own environment allows marketers to
understand the minds of children. Advertisers conduct surveys, organize focus groups, analyze
children s artwork, study academic literature on child development and even have cultural
anthropologists observe children without them knowing. Marketers do all that research so they can get
a grasp on what children are most

Chronic Neuropathic Pain After Spinal Cord Injury
Chronic Neuropathic Pain after Spinal Cord Injury: Spinal cord injury (SCI) affects up to 500,000
people every year around the world (Singh et al., 2014) with devastating physical, psychological and
social consequences. SCI not only damages motor systems, it also directly affects sensory systems,
causing chronic, debilitating neuropathic pain. The incidence of neuropathic pain after SCI is
extremely high, with at least half and up to 90% of SCI individuals experiencing neuropathic pain,
described as paroxysmal pain that can be continuous and may be evoked by any sensory stimulus, not
necessarily painful. Current pharmacological interventions offer minimal, transient relief to a minority
(30%) of sufferers of SCI induced neuropathic pain (Cousins, 2012). Current treatment strategies
utilize conventional drugs for chronic pain, which only address pain symptomatically and cannot
provide lasting relief or prevent relapse of symptoms, leading to drug dependency and further
reducing quality of life for SCI patients. Due to the myriad events that take place after SCI,
delineating the causes of neuropathic pain development is difficult. Neuropathic pain in general, and
more so in SCI, has an inherent degeneracy in mechanisms, which is likely why targeted
pharmacological treatment approaches often fail to provide significant relief.
Chronic neuropathic pain after SCI is a central pain syndrome, by definition arising directly due to
damage to or dysfunction of the CNS. While SCIs are

Drugs and Alcohol Essay
Drugs are heavily used throughout the entire world. However, it is important to understand and not
undermine the variability in which drugs are used. It is clear some are for distinct medical treatment
and others are for recreational use. In the United States, marijuana has been and continues to be a very
controversial drug. Some states have allowed marijuana consumption for medicinal purposes, while
others have completely outlawed the drug. Those who are against the legalization and regulation of
marijuana suggest the economical and health risk associated with consumption of the drug are too
high. Although there is risk involved with the legalization of the marijuana, our country has already
been risking too much banning the drug. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
in Marijuana Facts 1). From an outsider s perspective, one has to ask why is there so much tension and
hesitation in legalizing marijuana? If alcohol is the direct cause of many deaths, while marijuana has
not been responsible for any, it only makes sense that our health would not be our greatest concern in
legalizing the drug. Also, it is important to understand marijuana consumption is less susceptible to
overuse than alcohol or other drugs (Marijuana 10:477). Despite this, critics often argue that marijuana
is a gateway to other more potent and harmful drugs. According to Dr. Halbach of the World Health
Organization there is no pharmacological link between cannabis and opiates (Marijuana 10:477). This
demonstrates the physiological unlikelihood of marijuana being a stepping stone to other more potent
drugs containing opiates. Marijuana does have drawbacks and side effects, as any other drug whether
medicinal or recreational. However, putting the drug in perspective helps one to understand the
contradiction in legalizing other drugs while continuing to ignore marijuana even though it can
beneficial in different capacities. One major way the legalization and regulation of marijuana can
benefit society is for medical use or prescription by a doctor. Critics of this may be quick to assert this
is an excuse to entertain personal interest and satisfaction one would achieve from the drug. However,

Black Holes
Black Holes Albert Einstein first predicted black holes in 1916 with his general theory of relativity.
The term black hole was coined in 1967 by American astronomer John Wheeler, and the first one was
discovered in 1971. A black hole is a place in space where gravity pulls so much that even light can
not get out. The gravity is so strong because matter has been squeezed into a tiny space. This can
happen when a star is dying. Because no light can get out, people can t see black holes. They are
invisible. Space telescopes with special tools can help find black holes. The special tools can see how
stars that are very close to black holes act differently than other stars. Scientists think the smallest

It s about four million times the mass of the Sun. It s surrounded by a cluster of young stars, some of
which plunge to within a few billion miles of the black hole. And although it s quiet today, a century
ago it gorged on a clump of matter that passed too close, creating a pyrotechnic display that lit up the
Milky Way s heart. Much of that evidence has been amassed by two teams, one led by Ghez and
another by Reinhard Genzel, director of the Max Planck Institute for Extraterrestrial Physics in
Germany. Using giant telescopes in Hawaii and Chile and cutting edge observational techniques, they
have probed closer to the black hole than ever before. That has allowed them to plot the orbits of giant
stars that pass hair raisingly close to the black hole, providing the best measurement of the black hole
s mass. And it has revealed that some of the stars around the black hole are far younger than expected.
There s been a myriad of surprises, which is the fun of doing research, says Ghez. You go in expecting
to answer one thing and you come out the other end with more questions than you started with. The
central question that Ghez, Genzel, and others hoped to answer was whether a supermassive black
hole inhabits the center of the Milky Way. As early as 1980, radio observations revealed that gas was
swirling around a dark, massive object at the center of the galaxy. That object, which glowed steadily

The Rhetoric of Henry Highland Garnet in his Address to the Slaves of the United States
Henry Highland Garnet exerted powerful rhetorical strategies to the abolition and Civil Rights
Movements during the nineteenth century. His spiritual and loyal appeals complimented rigorous and
sometimes conflicting principles as seen in his An Address to the Slaves of the United States of
America. The captivating rhetoric of Garnet and his ability to form new alternatives and redefine
elements of contention signifies the rhetoric of strife, promoting African American loyalty and
emphasizing the courage of African American males. Garnet was a dynamic elocutionist, enabling him

However, instead of simply stating it, he utilizes an extended metaphor, personification and dark
imagery to capture the evils slavery will extend to all. Appealing to his audiences (fellow abolitionists)
pathos is vital in his cause to call for a revolution to free slaves in order to reveal the imperiousness of
the situation and allow the audience to empathize more so with slaves remaining in the south.
Furthering his purpose, Garnet s ability to construct new alternatives and readdress elements of
conflict is delineated by emphasizing the strength of African American males. He proposes,
Fellowmen! Patient sufferers! Behold your dearest rights crushed to the earth! See your sons
murdered, and your wives (...) let it no longer be a debatable question, whether it is better to choose
liberty or death (Garnet 350). Garnet asks the men if it is worth standing by, watching your family
endure such brutalities or die for their freedom. Offering an alternative and redefining the reason
behind his proposal is vital to the intended purpose of the message the lucidity of the assertion, the
logic of its motives and the effect of its evidence. The clout of logos on an audience is imperative
when trying to get the audience to join a cause. Henry Highland Garnet s Address to the Slaves of the
United States is acknowledged for the impact it has had historically due to the astounding rhetoric
articulated in the piece.

Three Main Ideas From The Communist Manifesto
Foundations of Sociology essay (Soc 10010)
Describe the three main ideas from the Communist Manifesto.
In this essay I will discuss three of the main ideas from Karl Marx s Communist Manifesto . I have
chosen to look at class struggles, the abolishment of private property and the idea that states look after
the dominant classes in societies. I chose these as I found them to be the three main ideas that stood
out to me most after reading the book. I have delved into each one and shown why I think they are the
three main ideas. I found them to be very interesting ideas which Marx has communicated very well.
Class struggles are a key idea in Marx s Communist Manifesto . Marx opens his Manifesto with the

There are never really major reforms to help all, after revolutions. The bourgeoisie, in France, had
been oppressed and after overthrowing the very distinct upper class they now held the power. During
the revolution they campaigned for liberty, equality and fraternity. This did not materialise afterwards
as stated by Marx:
The modern bourgeois society that has sprouted from the ruins of feudal society has not done away
with class antagonisms. It has but established new classes, new conditions of oppression, new forms
of struggle in place of the old ones. Marx (1848, p.74)
Marx proves that even when societies have fought for something like freedom, it does not always last.
The bourgeois brought in capitalism, which brought freedom, but it brought freedom to the bourgeois
and left the other classes behind with very little or nothing. This shows that economics have a massive

Weapons Training Bruce Dawe Analysis
Bruce Dawe, a famous Australian poet born in 1930, in Geelong; writes about his war experience in
the Vietnam War and utilises a variety of imagery and literary techniques to express his anti war
sentiment in both Weapons Training and Homecoming . Weapons Training written in 1970, involves a
dramatic monologue of a drill sergeant; training recruits who are about to be sent to the Vietnam War.
Homecoming written by Dawe two years earlier was written as a requiem for anonymous soldiers,
protesting towards Australia s involvement in the Vietnam War during the 1960s.

Current Art Vs Ancient Art
Introduction
Since time immemorial, art has always been a product of man s emotional and intellectual connection
with the world. The primary aim of art is to create a message that will either trigger an inexplicable
consciousness within the spirits of its audience, or provoke wisdom among the minds of the curious
persons. Owing to its deep rooted role for man, art has long been explored in several manners, with
some scholars pursuing the mere aspects of art, while some take on deep comparative examinations.
However, the act of connecting ancient art to contemporary art is not, as easy as taking into account,
the time both came into existence. More so, how current artists perceive the ancient art, and how it
influences their current works. There is a more precise, more diverse approach in understanding how
ancient art measure up to the contemporary ones. The overall purpose of this research paper is to gain
insight of the perception and attitude towards ancient art among current artists. To understand and
complete this research topic, the paper will offer deep research, which will also include interviewing
current artists with an aim of completing the set objectives. Nonetheless, current artists have the
obligation to appreciate ancient art, so as to develop the act of appreciating art works in the society,
including the works of current artists.

International Politics And Its Impact On The World
The study of International Politics is very important and extremely relevant in today s society,
especially in a world that is so easily impacted by the countries and nations around the United States,
whether it is positive or negative. As a republic, we tend to feel irrelevant in the world despite our
loyalty as a nation. Many people feel that since they are only one person they can do very little to help

government as superior to any other force in action, but that would not be possible without the rise of
the principle of sovereignty, paired with the rise of the evolution of science and decline of religious
dominance in this region. The Treaty of Westphalia, one of the most impactful diplomatic documents,
established the principle of sovereignty while also ending thirty years of war. This was the first time in
history that autonomous, internal political borders were recognized. Countries were now seen as
independent, and mostly equal entities instead of pieces of land conquered by more powerful
countries. While this may seem small, it is the foundation of international relations. Nations could
now retain goods and services that are undeniable to their territory and is merely the start of trading

Fifa Corruption Paper
Corruption Scores a Hat Trick Against FIFA FIFA has been at the center of a great deal of corruption
during the last couple of years. There are endless topics to discuss on the matter of corruption and
FIFA, but I wanted to focus on three of the biggest charges of corruption against FIFA, bribery,
mistreatment of female athletes, and the use of slave labor to build stadiums to host their games. FIFA
has been around for over a century and was a very respectable organization at one time, but that time
is now over. This affects international business because there are currently 209 countries within FIFA.

This is a great deal of money and is at the center of the links between FIFA and corruption, bribery
and vote rigging.
The FIFA Executive Committee consists of a President, elected by the Congress in the year following
a FIFA World Cup, eight vice presidents, fifteen members, appointed by the confederations and
associations, and one female member elected by the Congress. It meets at least twice a year, with the
mandate for each member lasting four years, and its role includes determining the dates, locations, and
format of tournaments, appointing FIFA delegates to the IFAB, and electing and dismissing the
General Secretary on the proposal of the FIFA President. Sepp Blatter is the current President of FIFA
and has held that post since June 1998. He has stated that he will step down once a new president has
been named, but that has not happened yet.
The total compensation for the management committee in 2014 was $88.6 million. Blatter, the only
full time person on the committee, earns two million Swiss francs, 1.2 million in salary and the rest in

Discrimination In The Tall Woman And Her Short Husband
Discrimination is a lasting theme of the society, no matter in what culture, at what time period and in
what form. Most discrimination comes from the difference in appearance. In other words, on people s
looks. However, though seems unusual, the love between the discriminated also exists. Many stories
from different culture have a theme on the unusual yet simple love. The story The Tall Woman and her
Short Husband talks about a weird couple, a tall woman and a short man, who are not welcomed by
their neighbors. The Cultural Revolution came and the husband was considered anti revolutionary and
was arrested. The tall woman was left alone and got scorned. Shortly after the short husband came out

How Has Basketball Changed
Basketball is an athletic game, generally played on an indoor court in which two battling groups of
five players each proceeding to score by tossing a ball into the goals, at each end of the court, over

Ultimately whoever scores the most points through the objective and rules of the sports will win the

diversion that he composed over 100 years earlier. Basketball has changed over the times since it was
first developed. The basketball changed a few times before they came up with the perfect style ball for
this sport. The rules have changed from the original 13 rules to a whole book of rules. Since 1890 to
the present several rules have been established. For example, if a player who is fouled can t shoot the
free throw, the other team coach selects the free throw shooter from the 4 players on the floor. The
coach of the fouled player used to be able to select any player from his roster to substitute. Another
change in the rules are the formation around the free throw line. The players that are trying to retrieve
possession of the ball after the free throw shot changed the number of players around the lane from 8

A Brief Note On The Egyptian Health System Essay
3.1. Donors (Suppliers)
Blood donation occurs when a person voluntarily has blood drawn and used for transfusion. Donation
could be of whole blood which used rare now or of specific components directly. Blood banks prepare
and participate in blood collection campaigns and the followed procedures. Today in developed
countries, most blood donors are unpaid volunteers who donate blood for community supply.
Meanwhile, in developing countries, with the severe shortage of blood stock, donors are paid money
and received extra advantages such as: paid time off. The Egyptian health system suffer s from a
severe shortage in the blood donation supplies as announced by some Health officials in Alexandria
Blood bank approximately, every three seconds, there is a patient who requires blood, thus there is an
urgent need ranging between 2.5 to 3 million bags annually. Tragically, only 60% of the country s
needs are met, (Shafie, 2013). The following (Table 1) shows the total blood donation during FY 2006

Essay On Whole Genome Sequencing
2.0 Materials and Methods
Whole genome sequencing (WGS) is one of the current methods used to obtain the entire genetic
composition of a particular patient. Once the sequence of DNA has been obtained the information
within the patient s genome is compared to a reference genome so that potentially pathogenic
mutations can be identified. Regions of DNA that are of interest are validated following the procedure
outlined below.
Primer design
Specific DNA loci were obtained from analysts in the form of Excel spreadsheets. These coordinates
were visualized using the genome browser build 19 on the UCSC website. The DNA sequence that
was taken was approximately 900 bp on either end of the region which was to be amplified. The DNA

This extension period was set for 7 minutes. 35 cycles were run when amplifying particular regions of
DNA obtained from probands and their respective families. Note primers were tested with controls
using the hotstart PCR conditions before primers were run with the patient s DNA.
Visualizing PCR product
Agarose gels were run to determine whether amplification of the targeted region of DNA was
successful. 1% gels were made using 50mL of 1X TAE buffer and 0.5g of agarose. 2.5mL of Ecosafe
dye was added to the gel before mixing and then cooling in a gel rig. 1.0mL of loading dye was mixed
with 4.0mL of DNA from PCR tubes. DNA samples were then loaded in their respective wells along
with 5mL of 1kb ladder to approximate band sizes during visualization of the gel. Gels were
visualized using UV light set at a wavelength of 302nm. Each gel was exposed to UV light for 10
seconds before the image was captured with an Azure gel imaging system.
Purification
PCR tubes were ready for purification when a single DNA band was present per lane on the agarose
gel. If multiple bands were obtained in a single lane the PCR process and gel visualization process
was repeated however, the denaturation temperature was run at a higher temperature to prevent non
specific binding of the primers to the DNA template. The purification process used an Invitrogen PCR
clean up kit. 5mL of charge switch beads

Comparing Hamlet And Zeffirelli s Movies
All films about Hamlet have extremely close similarities. However, certain aspects of one movie
enhances the play even more. Though all three films were great, the most exceptional film of the three
is the version by Franco Zeffirelli. The reason why this film is better than the others is because Hamlet
s character is more compelling, Freudian theory makes the play more interesting, and because the
small details in the movie make the play better.
To begin, Hamlet s character in Franco Zeffirelli s film is more interesting than the other three films
watched because Hamlet s character is more insane than the other two. To give an example, in the first
movie, Hamlet s character shows his insanity by contemplating suicide on a cliff. This scene ... Show

With Freudian theory, the play Hamlet is even more interesting. With the Freudian theory lens, when
watching Hamlet, one could see how the Oedipus complex is present. Without learning the lens, the
play Hamlet would be straightforward and the viewers would lack the ability to see the tension
between Hamlet and his mother. Without Freudian theory, Hamlet is like any other typical movie
about revenge, however with the addition of this lens, the audience has a newer perspective on the
film which makes it more interesting. The first film has a little Freudian theory present, but it does not
show what Hamlet truly wants greatly, thereby making the plot of the play boring. The audience
already has an idea about how the movie will end, which is with Claudius dying. In the last film, the
audience can also assume what is going to happen to Claudius because the plot is very
straightforward. The difference in the second movie, however, is that Freudian theory is shown.
Freudian theory adds to the plot and theme of the play and this prevents the watchers from knowing
what the plot is about. Not only does Hamlet want to kill his uncle, he also wants to have sexual
intercourse with his mother. The audience cannot extrapolate this idea from the plot and because of
this it surprises them and enhances the

The Sniper-Personal Narrative
The long June twilight faded into night. Dublin lay developed in darkness, but for the dim light of the
moon that shone through fleecy clouds, casting a pale light as of approaching dawn over the streets
and the dark waters of the Liffey. Around the beleaguered Four Courts the heavy guns roared. Here
and there through the city, machine guns and rifles broke the silence of the night, spasmodically, like
dogs barking on lone farms. Republicans and Free Staters were waging civil war. On one evening, a

a long time. He was used to gunshots at night, but hadn t usually been there to witness a death. This
man was tall, and thin. He had eyes as blue as the sky. He had a wife, and three kids, and his life had

The Shrew Comparison
The Taming of the Shrew is one of many plays William Shakespeare wrote in the 1590 s, and one
reinterpretation, 10 Things I hate about you is a more modern film made in the 1990 s and based on
the play Taming of the Shrew. To make a modern version of a 16th century play one would have to
have a perfect mix of similarities and differences between the two, incorporating elements of both
worlds. The creators of 10 Things I Hate about you did a very good job, using many of the characters
and much of the plot from Taming of the Shrew as well as aspects of teen society that so many people
can relate too in today s world. Both of them are very similar in many ways, but there are some minor

Introduction In general the economy tends to experience different trends. These trends can be grouped
as the business/trade cycle and may contain a boom, recession, depression and recovery. A
business/trade cycle (see figure 1) is the periodic but irregular up and down movements in economic
activity, measured by fluctuations in real Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and other macroeconomic
variables. Samuelson and Nordhaus (1998), defined it as a swing in total national input, income and

The Size Of The House Of Representatives
In 1787, one of the most debated issues was the size of the House of Representatives. During the
Constitutional Convention, the delegates proposed that 40,000 citizens should be represented by one
congressional district. However, George Washington intervened and argued that 40,000 was too high,
and reasoned that 30,000 was more reasonable and allow people to be represented adequately
Washington s proposal was incorporated in Article One, Section Two of the Constitution which states
representatives shall be apportioned among the several States according to their respective numbers,
counting the whole number of persons in each State. While the number of representatives did increase
throughout the history of the United States, the number has been set at 435 members since 1929.
Congress in 1929 passed the Permanent Apportionment Act that set the number of representatives at
435, which was set after a 1910 census. Currently each representative represents 700,000 citizens and
congressional seats are redistricted around the nation based on population changes. But the currently
number of representatives does not adequately represent the present population and a single district
cannot represent a huge number of people. Therefore, the current number of representatives must be
increased. After the Permanent Apportionment Act of 1929, congressional seats are move around the
nation after each decennial census However, each state is entitled to one seat, no matter how large its

Violent Video Games And Violence Essay
Recent outbursts of violent crimes committed by youths has raised concerns as to what caused the
corruption of these minors. Of all adolescents aged 12 17, 97% play video games in some form, and of
these video games, 85% contain violence to some degree. With news covering a slue of monstrous
acts committed by children, many people began to direct the blame on violent video games. These
accusations claimed that the disturbing acts witnessed while playing video games was corrupting
youths can causing them to execute heinous crimes. However, newer, well developed ideas have
began to shift the blame from violent to video games to other extenuating circumstances. Common
misconceptions, analysis of youth crime statistics, and new scientific studies showcase how violent
video games do not cause youths to display violent and aggressive behavior.
First, misconceptions and flawed studies have guided the public into believing that video games are
the root of vicious adolescent crime. Past studies have indicated that in fact a link does exist between
violent video games and violent crime; however, these studies have apparent issues. Many of these
studies, failed to prove a legitimate cause and effect between the two variables. The largest problem is
that these studies base their findings off means of testing aggression in children that do not correspond
with violent in reality. For example, one study evaluated aggression by timing the duration in which
someone would inflict a loud noise at another person. In reality, it is extremely difficult to assess a
person s aggression in a simulated experiment that will produce legitimate results because it is not a
realistic scenario in the real world. Furthermore, the consequences of afflicting someone with a loud
sound are not equivalent to the consequences of committing a mass shooting. Another major
misconception is that school shootings are a direct effect of playing violent video games. The issue
with that philosophy is that it fails to account for other variables that can lead to violent outbursts such
as personality traits, genetics, and home environment. Overall, these misconceptions blame video
games as the sole problem, distorting the view of video games

Part A: The Equivalent Fractions and Decimals Lesson Plan is aligned to NCTM s content and process
standards. The content standard that this lesson is addressing is numbers and operations. This entire
lesson is about students using fractions and decimals to solve problems. This lesson also has several
process standards addressed in the lesson plan. One of the process standards used in this lesson is
Connections. Throughout this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Show or the Ad activity has students using word problems that talk about television programs and
commercials. The teacher has made the students connect that math is even in the TV shows that they
watch. The teacher then makes it even more the students own connections by allowing them to be
creative and writing their own word problem about TV and commercials. The teacher also uses these
types of problems on the summative assessment. The teacher uses connections even in the homework
that is assigned to the students. The teacher assigns students to watch their favorite television show,
and as they watch the show to record how many minutes the commercials are. All of this shows the
students understanding of the concept while allowing the students to relate this to something they
enjoy. The one NCTM process standard that I would add to this lesson plan would be the reasoning
and proof standard. This is the only standard that is rarely used in this lesson plan. The Reasoning and
Proof standard emphasizes the logical thinking that helps us decide if and why our answers make
sense (Walle, p. 5). This lesson needs to allow students to justify the reason for their answers. This
lesson only has them justifying their answers on one question, throughout the entire lesson. I would
add more to the questions than just the answers. One part of this lesson I would change to incorporate
the reasoning and proof standard is on the The Show or the

Folk Music Research Paper
Folk Rock music is my favorite genre to listen to, such as the Lumineers, Mumford and Sons, and
Judah and the Lion. Folk Rock music is a blend between folk music that is blended with rock and pop;
it was created in the 1960 s when it started out with two different artists, Bob Dylan the Band, and the
Byrd s. The folk revival of the 1960s is often the starting point of fascination with the style for many
contemporary folk fans. One big effect of the 60s folk revival was that it marked the beginning of
folksingers, on a large scale, writing their own material. Since in folk rock, most are
singer/songwriters, instruments that are typically used are electric guitar, electric bass and drums.
Some bands, such as Judah and the Lion, will also add ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Country music is interesting to me since it is a genre where a bunch of different genres originated
from such as folk rock, the similarity of the style to folk rock and bluegrass, and also that most
country artists write and sing their own pieces. Country music was developed right here in the USA
down in the south in the 1920 s, being that was the first ever recording. It is also one of the firsts of
popular modern American music. In the 1930 s and 1940 s before the television was invented, it was
common that American families would sit around a radio to listen to entertainment, and one of the
most popular programs was a live country show called the Grand Ole Opry . It was based out of
Nashville, which we all know as the home of country music. Back then people would listen to what
was called Western music which would have a bunch of clicks and clacks and sound like a horse like
beat and would have singing cowboys. In the early 1950 s another kind of country music developed
and it was known as bluegrass, and the later in the 1960 s country rock began to appear since the
country genre was being beat out by rock bands (and this is also when my favorite, Folk Rock,
became about.) During this time is also when other genres began to come about such as Folk Rock and
Country Pop. Instruments that are typically used in the country genre are pretty much all string
instruments such as the acoustic guitar, the banjo, the mandolin, and even the

Does Helicopter Parents Negatively Affects One s Life
Parents are the most important and influential people in someone s life, but is there such a thing as too
much? Parents who are overbearing and intrusive are called helicopter parents. Like all parents,
helicopter parents influence how their child acts, lives, and interacts with others. Although it s
important for parents to be there to support their children, being an extreme, over protective parent can
negatively affect a child s physical and mental health. Helicopter; a vehicle of transportation that can
swoop down at a sign of a challenge or danger. A helicopter is great in the sign of danger, to help those
in need, however a helicopter parent damages their child from too much protection and caretaking. It
is called helicopter parenting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sometimes children need that extra protection or support from their parents to feel safe. Everyone is
unique and require different support from their parents; for example I am independent, but my friend
depends on her parents and needs their constant presents. Helicopter parents can save their child from
dangerous situation. For instance their child could meet a new friend, and the parents don t know
anything about this new friend. The child s friend gets into trouble and is a bad kid; having a vigilant
parent could keep the child safe from this not so good friend that is a bad influence. Helicopter
parenting impairs a child s development and future, nevertheless; it can protect him/her from being

NAPAAbandonment
Introduction
This report is addressing the abandonment issue of special order parts at NAPAAuto Parts of Lander,
Wyoming. This report identifies the need to resolve the issue of customers not coming in to pick up
the parts that were ordered for them. My report explains and describes all of the details that came out
of my research. I conducted a survey to determine if this was really a problem that needed to be
resolved. I took a record of how many parts were special ordered and how many of those parts did not
get picked up over a week. Lastly, I interviewed numerous employees including: Mark Lewis
(counterman), Korey Stahl (freight), Randy Hitshew (counterman), and Kolter Rhoads
(inventory/returns) to gain an understanding of the problem ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The problem is occurring because customers end up not needing the parts that they ordered. Another
reason the problem may be occurring is because the customers simply forget that they ordered a part.
The abandonment of special orders have two main effects on the store, including: unhappy employees
and profit loss. When special orders are abandoned, the countermen get lectured about how they need
to pay better attention to what the customer wants. When the countermen get lectured, they feel like
they aren t doing their job correctly; however, they are just obeying the customers wishes. Profit loss
is perhaps one of the biggest detrimental effects that the issue causes. When a customer neglects to
pick up the part they order, it sits on the return shelf until the classification return is process. The store
must pay a 15% restocking fee when the parts are sent back to the distribution center which results in
a massive loss of profit over

  • 2. Chiquitas Global Turnaround Executive Summary This report details several international management problems that Chiquita has been faced with over the past two decades. Many of these problems are to do with the company s previously poor image when it came to Corporate and Social responsibility. Over the years Chiquita faced many accusations about the conditions workers were faced with at many of their facilities in Latin America and have also had their environmental policies questioned many times in the press. The company has made great strides in recent years in improving their public image with regards to corporate and social responsibility. In particular Chiquita s commitment to the Better Bananas Project has helped improve their public image along with the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Cincinnati Enquirer, a paper based in Kentucky, accused the company guilty of labour, human rights, environmental and political violations in central America, leaving an unsavoury impression of our company according to Jeff Zalla, current corporate responsibility officer at Chiquita. (Luthans, F., amp; P. Doh, J. 2012). The centre of the debate about the CSR is the nature and extent of corporate obligations that extend beyond the economic and legal responsibilities of the firm. The idea of social responsibilities supposes that the corporation has not only economic and legal obligations, but also certain responsibilities to society which extend beyond these obligations (McGuire, 1963: 144). The issue is therefore critical for the firm as it is in the business s long term self interest to be socially responsible. If Chiquita wants to have a healthy climate in which to function in the future, it must take actions now to ensure its long term viability. Ultimately it will benefit the company by winning the public because the public believe firms should take on social responsibility. Issue #2: Tariff ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Since their CSR plan announcement Walmart has been making progress towards achieving those goals but many don t think it s enough or realistically sustainable for the long run. Walmart has received backlash for their slow adoption of renewable energy, it s cheap products, and it s little progress on their sustainability index (Gunther, M., 2011). One of Wal mart s initiatives intended to address some of their inimical externalities is to convert to 100% renewable energy to power their stores. An article published in 2011 stated that Walmart was powered by only 2% of renewable energy and the ILSR came out with a report stating less than 2% of renewable energy powers Walmart stores. People were not impressed with this minimal progress and pointed out that other companies like Starbucks and Kohls use more renewable energy than Walmart. It was also pointed out that Wal mart is a huge multinational corporation and that a process like this will take time, especially if they re trying to avoid raising their costs, which in turn would not benefit the customers. However, in 2013 it was reported that Wal Mart s 10,800 stores are powered by 21% of renewable energy, which is a decent amount of growth from ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Salinger, and Home by George Saunders depicts the search the protagonists, Seymour and Mikey, go through to retrieve their innocence that they once lost while fighting in the war. Fighting in any war is absolutely terrifying and can leave permanent damage on someone forever emotionally and mentally, thus leading them to lose their innocence. The effects that the war has left on them and how it impacts their lives are visible in multiple ways. Both short stories A Perfect Day for Bananafish and Home demonstrate the criticism against the materialistic world, the barriers to effective communication and the elusive search for childhood and home. To begin with, A Perfect Day for Bananafish and Home reveal the judgment against the materialistic society by Seymour s realization of his wife constantly luxuriating in wealth and how he condemns his respective society, and by Mikey expressing his anger towards his materialistic society due to the actions of his family, and the differences in wealth. A Perfect Day for Bananafish features Seymour who has returned home from World War II to his materialistic and superficial wife, Muriel. • 6. Chronic Neuropathic Pain After Spinal Cord Injury Chronic Neuropathic Pain after Spinal Cord Injury: Spinal cord injury (SCI) affects up to 500,000 people every year around the world (Singh et al., 2014) with devastating physical, psychological and social consequences. SCI not only damages motor systems, it also directly affects sensory systems, causing chronic, debilitating neuropathic pain. The incidence of neuropathic pain after SCI is extremely high, with at least half and up to 90% of SCI individuals experiencing neuropathic pain, described as paroxysmal pain that can be continuous and may be evoked by any sensory stimulus, not necessarily painful. Current pharmacological interventions offer minimal, transient relief to a minority (30%) of sufferers of SCI induced neuropathic pain (Cousins, 2012). Current treatment strategies utilize conventional drugs for chronic pain, which only address pain symptomatically and cannot provide lasting relief or prevent relapse of symptoms, leading to drug dependency and further reducing quality of life for SCI patients. Due to the myriad events that take place after SCI, delineating the causes of neuropathic pain development is difficult. Neuropathic pain in general, and more so in SCI, has an inherent degeneracy in mechanisms, which is likely why targeted pharmacological treatment approaches often fail to provide significant relief. Chronic neuropathic pain after SCI is a central pain syndrome, by definition arising directly due to damage to or dysfunction of the CNS. While SCIs are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is clear some are for distinct medical treatment and others are for recreational use. In the United States, marijuana has been and continues to be a very controversial drug. Some states have allowed marijuana consumption for medicinal purposes, while others have completely outlawed the drug. If alcohol is the direct cause of many deaths, while marijuana has not been responsible for any, it only makes sense that our health would not be our greatest concern in legalizing the drug. Also, it is important to understand marijuana consumption is less susceptible to overuse than alcohol or other drugs (Marijuana 10:477). Despite this, critics often argue that marijuana is a gateway to other more potent and harmful drugs. According to Dr. Halbach of the World Health Organization there is no pharmacological link between cannabis and opiates (Marijuana 10:477). This demonstrates the physiological unlikelihood of marijuana being a stepping stone to other more potent drugs containing opiates. Marijuana does have drawbacks and side effects, as any other drug whether medicinal or recreational. However, putting the drug in perspective helps one to understand the contradiction in legalizing other drugs while continuing to ignore marijuana even though it can beneficial in different capacities. One major way the legalization and regulation of marijuana can benefit society is for medical use or prescription by a doctor. Critics of this may be quick to assert this is an excuse to entertain personal interest and satisfaction one would achieve from the drug. However, there are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Black Holes Black Holes Albert Einstein first predicted black holes in 1916 with his general theory of relativity. The term black hole was coined in 1967 by American astronomer John Wheeler, and the first one was discovered in 1971. A black hole is a place in space where gravity pulls so much that even light can not get out. The gravity is so strong because matter has been squeezed into a tiny space. This can happen when a star is dying. Because no light can get out, people can t see black holes. They are invisible. Space telescopes with special tools can help find black holes. The special tools can see how stars that are very close to black holes act differently than other stars. Scientists think the smallest black holes formed when the universe ... And although it s quiet today, a century ago it gorged on a clump of matter that passed too close, creating a pyrotechnic display that lit up the Milky Way s heart. Much of that evidence has been amassed by two teams, one led by Ghez and another by Reinhard Genzel, director of the Max Planck Institute for Extraterrestrial Physics in Germany. Using giant telescopes in Hawaii and Chile and cutting edge observational techniques, they have probed closer to the black hole than ever before. That has allowed them to plot the orbits of giant stars that pass hair raisingly close to the black hole, providing the best measurement of the black hole s mass. And it has revealed that some of the stars around the black hole are far younger than expected. There s been a myriad of surprises, which is the fun of doing research, says Ghez. You go in expecting to answer one thing and you come out the other end with more questions than you started with. The central question that Ghez, Genzel, and others hoped to answer was whether a supermassive black hole inhabits the center of the Milky Way. Though all three films were great, the most exceptional film of the three is the version by Franco Zeffirelli. The reason why this film is better than the others is because Hamlet s character is more compelling, Freudian theory makes the play more interesting, and because the small details in the movie make the play better. Without Freudian theory, Hamlet is like any other typical movie about revenge, however with the addition of this lens, the audience has a newer perspective on the film which makes it more interesting. The first film has a little Freudian theory present, but it does not show what Hamlet truly wants greatly, thereby making the plot of the play boring. The audience already has an idea about how the movie will end, which is with Claudius dying. In the last film, the audience can also assume what is going to happen to Claudius because the plot is very straightforward. The difference in the second movie, however, is that Freudian theory is shown. Freudian theory adds to the plot and theme of the play and this prevents the watchers from knowing what the plot is about. During the Constitutional Convention, the delegates proposed that 40,000 citizens should be represented by one congressional district. However, George Washington intervened and argued that 40,000 was too high, and reasoned that 30,000 was more reasonable and allow people to be represented adequately Washington s proposal was incorporated in Article One, Section Two of the Constitution which states representatives shall be apportioned among the several States according to their respective numbers, counting the whole number of persons in each State. Of all adolescents aged 12 17, 97% play video games in some form, and of these video games, 85% contain violence to some degree. With news covering a slue of monstrous acts committed by children, many people began to direct the blame on violent video games. These accusations claimed that the disturbing acts witnessed while playing video games was corrupting youths can causing them to execute heinous crimes. However, newer, well developed ideas have began to shift the blame from violent to video games to other extenuating circumstances. Common misconceptions, analysis of youth crime statistics, and new scientific studies showcase how violent video games do not cause youths to display violent and aggressive behavior. First, misconceptions and flawed studies have guided the public into believing that video games are the root of vicious adolescent crime. Past studies have indicated that in fact a link does exist between violent video games and violent crime; however, these studies have apparent issues. Many of these studies, failed to prove a legitimate cause and effect between the two variables. The largest problem is that these studies base their findings off means of testing aggression in children that do not correspond with violent in reality. For example, one study evaluated aggression by timing the duration in which someone would inflict a loud noise at another person. In reality, it is extremely difficult to assess a person s aggression in a simulated experiment that will produce legitimate results because it is not a realistic scenario in the real world. Furthermore, the consequences of afflicting someone with a loud sound are not equivalent to the consequences of committing a mass shooting. Another major misconception is that school shootings are a direct effect of playing violent video games. The issue with that philosophy is that it fails to account for other variables that can lead to violent outbursts such as personality traits, genetics, and home environment. Overall, these misconceptions blame video games as the sole problem, distorting the view of video games ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Country music was developed right here in the USA down in the south in the 1920 s, being that was the first ever recording. It is also one of the firsts of popular modern American music. In the 1930 s and 1940 s before the television was invented, it was common that American families would sit around a radio to listen to entertainment, and one of the most popular programs was a live country show called the Grand Ole Opry . It was based out of Nashville, which we all know as the home of country music. In the early 1950 s another kind of country music developed and it was known as bluegrass, and the later in the 1960 s country rock began to appear since the country genre was being beat out by rock bands (and this is also when my favorite, Folk Rock, became about.) When special orders are abandoned, the countermen get lectured about how they need to pay better attention to what the customer wants. When the countermen get lectured, they feel like they aren t doing their job correctly; however, they are just obeying the customers wishes. Profit loss is perhaps one of the biggest detrimental effects that the issue causes. When a customer neglects to pick up the part they order, it sits on the return shelf until the classification return is process. The store must pay a 15% restocking fee when the parts are sent back to the distribution center which results in a massive loss of profit over ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
