It is going to be hard for me to write about my career because at this moment I am in the middle of
switching them. For the past four years I have felt called to be a counselor. I can understand teenagers,

Throughout history, when it comes to a national crisis, many leaders and politicians tend to advance
towards what the people want to hear. In order to gain their audience s support, most political leaders
and public speakers use the practice of demagoguery to have useful influence held towards their
argument. In Patricia Roberts Miller s article Democracy, Demagoguery, and Critical Rhetoric,
analyzes what demagoguery is and how it affects the audience. Speakers or authoritative figures that
engage with demagoguery use strategies such as scapegoating and polarization in order to establish a
separation between in groups and out groups; in groups tend to form hateful discrimination on out

about Racial Discrimination 1). Racial profiling, or discriminating against a whole group of people
based on their race, is an unjust act and a big problem in our society today. Arresting people because
of how they look like, or what they believe in is absurd. According to ACLU, Racial Profiling refers to
the discriminatory practice by law enforcement officials of targeting individuals for suspicion of crime
based on the individual s race, ethnicity, religion or national origin (ACLU 1). Although law
enforcement assumes they are doing their job, they need to remain objective and fair in all situations,
because they are violating rights, lacking protection and risking lives.
Law enforcement violates the rights of people by unfairly stereotyping minority groups. By
stereotyping minorities, law enforcement officers are violating the rights of the citizens being falsely

For one of my cultural visits I went to a Mexican restaurant, El Molcajete, in Geneva, IL. In this
restaurant I observed elements of folk and popular culture which included the music that was playing
there, which was mariachi band music which made the place feel more authentic to Mexico. The
music from the mariachi band was a piece of their folk culture they had, because they used violins,
trumpets, guitarron a spanish guitar used in most Spanish music, and a vihuela a five stringed guitar
with a high pitch. Some of the popular culture that was there was the outfits the servers were wearing
which was a plain old t shirt and some black pants, and it was more popular culture because nowadays
servers wear a shirt and pants that match what the theme or idea of the restaurant is. I categorized the

Fall arrives in the city with cool, crisp winds that brush leaves from the ground into the air in a slow

I recently read Chain Letter by Christopher Pike. The plot is that a group of friends receive a letter
telling each person to do a different dangerous, risky task. If they don t do it, they are threatened with
other terrible options, including death. The person who wrote these letters, signed as Caretaker knows
about a crime they committed, when they were all together that only the group members know about.
Pike makes this story enjoyable by including sequence and structure. The sequence was substantial
because it was present time which was helpful to understand what was going on in the story. It also

accepting their language, they are immediately set up to be an outsider. They are seen as foreigners as
opposed to citizens. People who don t speak English are often assumed not to be Americans. In order
to assist in the conversion of the immigrants to a new society, is necessary to provide them with signs,
documents, ballots that they can understand.
As Dickstein points out, denying them of materials in their language does not help them learn English
any faster. He proposes that America should not be English only but strive to be English Plus. By this
