Lady Brett Ashley in The Sun Also Rises Essay
Lady Brett Ashley was a very important character in the book The Sun Also Rises. She had it all, she
was pretty, and she had four guys ogling over her. Four guys!!!! She was independent, she could do
whatever she wanted. She was definitely not sympathetic however, nore would she be a good role
model for anyone because yes, she does treat her male friends cruelly. Lets start with her relationships
with the guys. She can basically get whatever she wants, they will do anything for her, because they
find her so attractive. Even if they want something in return, she will be happy to give it to them, she
has it all. However that is all she does, she moves from guy to guy like she does not even care. Which
by the way, she does not. Basically, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She was unlike anything they had ever seen or would ever get to see again. She was different, but in a
good way. She was one of them. Mike once compared her to circe, a character in a Greek myth who
lured in men and then she transformed them into animals. Brett just wants sex without love, instead of
the other way around like Jake.
Brett had good and bad qualities. She was not all bad. I personally would not pick her for a role model
but I will admit she had some admirable qualities. For example, the way she changed over the course
of the novel. At first she did not really care about anyone or anything but herself. Then she began to
realize what she did to people and she began to consider the feeling a of others as well as her own. If
her relationship with Pedro had occurred at the beginning of the novel, she probably would have given
no thought to what effects their relationship would have on him. However, by the end of the novel she
had gained the understanding to know that he should do what is right, put away her own feelings, and
leave him for his own good. She could be used as a role model because of her liberty. She is never tied
down, as if she is floating in the breeze, aimlessly wandering from place to place. She does not
conform. She does what she wants when she wants and does not let other people tell her what to do.
She is dependent on no one in the sense that she does not care what others think. However, at the same
time, she is

Herman Melvilles A Utilitarian View Of The Monitor s Fight
Herman Melville s A Utilitarian View of the Monitor s Fight was a part of a collection of poems from
the book titled Battle Pieces and Aspects of the War, published in 1866. It was the first book of poetry
written by Melville. According to authors Geoffrey Sanborn and Samuel Otter, It is a great anti war
poem, one that in its focus upon warfare as the expression of industrial power could be said to lay the
groundwork for an anti war tradition of poetry in English that would reach a kind of pinnacle in
Wilfred Owen s Dulce Et Decorum Est (Sanborn and Otter, 2011). The war had a deep impact on
Melville, who witnessed the efficiently of mechanized warfare. Many of today s practices of the

between military policy and industrial production (Ball, 2002) Thus, it is evident in the present era of

superiority. This has been achieved through advancement in aircraft technology and stealth warfare.
Hence, the United States has approximately 13,000 military aircraft that were built in factories.
Comparatively, China and Russia, the world s next largest aerial powers, only have a total of 2,000 to
3,000 military aircraft each (Bender, 2015) that were produced in factories. Next, another point of
contention is the desensitization of warfare as a result of

Atticus Bravery
Bravery means being loyal to your beliefs, being fearless in the face of danger and valiant at heart.
Our society values the ability to be heroic. Firefighters and policeman are the epitome of bravery, but,
occasionally, an ordinary person dares to be just as courageous. In Harper Lee s To Kill a
Mockingbird, three innocent children face the tribulations of a town engulfed in racism while their
father, Atticus, confronts the issue with a trail that could revolutionize the future for African
Americans. The first gallant act that displays the bravery Atticus possesses would be when he faces a
mass of angry Maycomb citizens. In this scene, Mr. Heck Tate accompanied by other men show up on
Atticus s door step; Heck says he does not expect any trouble by Atticus counters the idea saying Don
t be foolish, Heck, ... This is Maycomb (Lee 194). Atticus was brash when he objected to the idea that
Tom would be safe. Atticus demonstrates his valor, yet again, when he stands up to a mob that has

The consequence of this choice could have been grave. If Atticus missed, he could have murdered a
member of the Radley house. Due to the fact that Atticus is partially blind in one eye, the risks are
amplified further. Furthermore, Atticus could have lost his own life if the dog had managed to bite
him. Conversely, a few individuals believe that the cons did not outweigh the pros, they thought the
dangers involved were too great but Atticus proved his skills when with movements so swift they
seemed simultaneous, Atticus s hand yanked a ball tipped lever as he brought the gun to his shoulder
(Lee 127). The fact that Atticus so confidently controlled the gun after years of never even grasping

of the tariff on the number of imports. c. How did the imposition of the tariff change consumer
surplus? d. How did the imposition of the tariff change producer surplus? e. What is the overall result
of the tariff in terms of welfare? A. The US does not have a comparative advantage in wingdings

Part 2: Allowing free trade between countries can be beneficial, but it also imposes costs. Use the ITT
Tech Virtual Library to research the costs and benefits of allowing free trade. Discuss aspects of free
trade that some may consider unfair. For example: a. Distribution of costs and benefits of free trade. In
other words, does everyone share in the gains and the costs equally? b. Competing with different labor
restrictions (or lack thereof), such as slave or child labor. c. Differences in environmental standards. In
the following basic demand and supply model free trade allows countries to specialize in producing
the goods in which they have the lowest opportunity cost. This lowers the price of the good in other
countries, as those countries can import it from the lower cost countries. Generally, consumers in a
country benefit from the lower prices, but producers lose revenue because they produce less and at a
lower price in equilibrium (and the government gets less tax revenue if there was a tariff in place
before free trade). Overall, the total surplus is greater, but not everyone shares in the benefits and costs
equally. Manual labor (manual labor in American English) or manual work is physical work done by
people, most especially in contrast to that done by machines, and also to that done by working
animals. It

Jury Defense
will become clear in the interview video. It was then time for Jorge s attorneys to go before the jury,
and he stood when the prosecutor took her seat. To begin to believe the defense given by Jorge s
attorney was powerful or persuasive is giving it too much credit. In my opinion the structure and
delivery of all of his points that I will describe only further supported the opposing sides arguments.
He began his statements by saying everything was misconstrued and was simply a misunderstanding
given by the child. He then went on to describe the roommate (taking blame from Jorge) and how it
was their fault for not speaking up about any awkward situations that may have arisen in the past. He
invested time talking about the rules of the house ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The process of the various statements given and the ability to convey such a strong message to the
jury is the job of the attorney. In my open opinion, the evidence and statements given could not be
outweighed by Jorge s attorney in any way. This was aided by the fact that he was not able to support
his arguments and all odds were against him. The courts system of relaying evidence to the jury and
giving the people a right to choose what they honestly believe to be the truth of the situation is what
todays judicial system is based upon. This was enlightening to me to see happen and I am content with
what I have witnessed. Following this case, I was able to find two more that were similar in nature.

Transition In Willy Russell s Educating Rita
Transitioning into the new world may allow the individual to face new experiences that may become
obstacles or barriers they must overcome before being able to transition. During this transition,
individuals may also gain a new sense of self and others. Willy Russell s play, Educating Rita explores
obstacles as Rita transitions from an uneducated class to the educated and how it impacts her life as a
woman as she is forced to be someone she does not want to be (the role of women). Another text that
explores transition is a story by Gill Hickson, Identity in the face of terror from TEDx Talk. The story
involves terrorism attack in a subway which included Gill Hickson who nearly died to a bomber but

difficult to open her professor s door (stage direction), this symbolizes a barrier between Rita s past
life as a married hairdresser and the world of literature Rita dreams to enter. The beginning stages of
Rita s transitioning does not initially go well for her as the middle working class she belongs to ties
her down and the fact that Rita does not have the knowledge to be able to overcome the differences of
her world and the intellectual world. During the initial stages of Rita s transitioning, obstacles stopped
her from moving forward to her goal. Near the end of Russell s play, Rita claims to have transitioned
successfully from the middle class to the educated class. Rita states to Professor Frank, I m not an

Dual Immigrants
It is not recommended that Lars come to the U.S. on his tourist visa. The problem with using coming
on tourist visa and getting married immediately is the legal concept of dual intent. At the time a person
enters the U.S. they cannot have both (1) the intent to return to their home country and (2) at the same
time, intend to remain in the U.S. as the spouse of a U.S. citizen. An entry as a tourist legally requires
that you are entering with the intention of returning to your permanent home abroad, not to enter as a
tourist, get married, and remain here to apply for a green card. If you file within 30 days, there is a
rebuttable presumption that you wanted to stay in the U.S.. If you file more than 30 days but less than

Spanish because they converted the Filipino into Catholicism because if the Spain had not succeeded

most important contribution that the Spanish given to us. The Spanish colonization in the Philippines

The Canadian Community Health Survey
Purpose of the CCHS:
The Canadian Community Health Survey (CCHS) is a federal cross sectional assessment that aims to
obtain health related information at the regional tier. This series of surveys gathers population level
data linked with health status, health care usage, and the root causes affecting overall health.
The CCHS aims to document emerging health trends that can assist in population health research and
additional health surveillance programs. Furthermore, the effective utilization of the CCHS can serve
as a platform to improve the well being of all Canadians and raise awareness about health concerns
and innovative health strategies.
When did it start and why?
The CCHS is a joint effort of Health Canada, the Public Health Agency of Canada, Statistics Canada,
and the Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI). In 1991, the National Task Force on Health
Information highlighted various discrepancies with the collection and management of Canadian health
data. As a result, a Health Information Roadmap was constructed and a framework for the CCHS was
developed. The CCHS initiative began surveying in 2001, and, in 2015, the CCHS implemented a new
collection mandate resulting from a redesign project that included significant content modifications.

Tariff and Non-Tariff Barriers
International Trade is the branch of economics concerned with the exchange of goods and services
with foreign countries. In the context of globalization, International trade has become an even more
important topic now that so many countries have begun to move from state run to market driven
economies. Tariff and non tariff barriers play a large part in this process.
Tariff Barriers
Tariffs are among the oldest forms of government economic intervention. They are most commonly
used as taxes on imports into a country or region. They are put into practice for two clear economic
purposes. They provide revenue for the government and they improve economic returns to firms and
suppliers to domestic industries that face competition from foreign ... Show more content on

Two common examples are quotas and counter trade, which even though they are considered non
tariff barriers, have the same effect as a tariff, but are only imposed in specific circumstances. Some
non tariff trade barriers are explicitly permitted in very limited circumstances, when they are deemed
necessary to protect health, safety, or sanitation, or to protect natural resources.
Non tariff barriers to trade can be:
* State subsidies, procurement, trading, and ownership.
* National regulations on health, safety, employment.
* Product classification.
* Quotas.
* Foreign Exchange: controls and multiplicity.
* Over elaborate or inadequate infrastructure.
* Buy national policy.
* Intellectual property laws (patents and copyrights).
* Bribery and corruption.
* Unfair customs procedures. (Wikipedia.com, 2005B)
Globalization
A critical shift is occurring in the world economy. The world is moving quickly away from a world in
which national economies are mostly reliant on goods from within their own country; stay isolated
from each other by barriers trade across national borders, and by national differences in government
regulation, culture, and business systems. It is moving toward a world where barriers to trade across
national borders are dropping, perceived distance is shrinking due to advances in transportation and
telecommunications technology, and national economies are

Describe The Relationship Between Putin And Thomas Hobbes
Russia s power has increased a lot over the past few years. Not only has their nation increased power,
so has their leader, Vladimir Putin. Putin has many interesting aspects as a person and in his
governmental styles. He gained these from many different people including Thomas Hobbes, and John
Locke. Vladimir Putin s policies are both supported by John Locke and Thomas Hobbes, but when it
comes to Vladimir Putin as a person only Hobbes is right.
Putin believes that one man can control all and prevent damage from occurring. While working in the
KGB he began discovering the power and strength one man can have. He started to think along the
lines of Thomas Hobbes; believing the ideas that all men are evil and need one ruler to control them.

Although, he may have militaristic views on safety and relations he still tries to make his country a
better place. He focuses on benefiting his country s wealth and the general well being of the citizens of
Russia. Under Vladimir Putin, Russia has managed to significantly reduce the arrears to international
financial institutions ( )Although he may have a intense personality, when it comes to government and
his people he tries to make their life better. Putin maybe want all control but he can t have that if his
own country is thinking of a revolt. To prohibit this He pays off the debts they had with other
countries. Russia has understood what debts can do to your people when they are being prolonged to
pay off. Although Putin may want to be their one supreme leader he can not accomplish that if he has
to worry about possible revolutions. When some people first come to office, they typically try to make
their plans happen. This wasn t the case when Vladimir Putin came to power. When Putin came to be
president he was a faced with a serious issue that was previously left for him, he had to solve the
Ukraine conflict. The power of the Society, or legislative, constituted by them, can never be supposed
to extend farther that the common good. (Locke) This shows that Putin did this to better the good of
his people, while doing so he also made his country even safer than it was originally. Solving the
Ukraine conflict allowed people within and around that area to feel safer. Instead of being neutral in
the situation like other countries, he got involved. Putin may appear fierce but he has a soft spot for
the safety of his own and others.
Vladimir Putin s personality and his policies are all based off Hobbes and Locke. When describing
Putin s personality Hobbes was the better comparison point. But, when it comes to his policies, they
can be both represented by Hobbes and

My Career As A Counselor
It is going to be hard for me to write about my career because at this moment I am in the middle of
switching them. For the past four years I have felt called to be a counselor. I can understand teenagers,
which is what I wanted my counseling group to be, more than anyone. I felt called to counseling
because I wanted to use my past trials and mistakes to help others. I felt like that was the only way I
would be able to serve God. I felt if I did not stay with my career in counseling that I would be
betraying God because I was not directly showing His light to others through my career. I did not
waiver from that field of study because I was scared. I did not open up myself to every option
available. What I did not realize was that there does not have to be a specific way I show exemplify
God in my life. It never occurred to me that every calling and vocation exemplified God because He
was the one that gave me the ideas! After taking the Strengths Assessment and listening to the lectures
on vocation and calling, I better understand how I am supposed to understand my career.
The first message of the vocation lectures that stuck out to me was the idea of the idolatry of choice. I
completely agree that we, as Christians, sometimes get caught up in the process of decision making.
We should allow God to make our final decisions. I also think, though, that God puts in our hearts
desires and dreams that match up with our strengths. He does not want to stumble around

Biography on Sir George Gabriel Stokes
SIR GEORGE GABRIEL STOKES
Sir George Gabriel Stokes, 1st Baronet, was an Irish physicist, mathematician, politician and
theologian. He was born on 13 August 1819, in Ireland, as the youngest son in the eight children of a
very religious Protestant family. His father Gabriel Stokes was the rector of Skreen; and his mother,
Elizabeth Haughton, was the daughter of John Haugton, the rector of Kilrea, County Londonderry He
first educated in Dublin, Ireland, and later he was sent to England where he continued his education.
He spent two years in Bristol College, which played an important role in his later studies at
Cambridge. In 1837 he became a student at Pembroke College, Cambridge and stayed there for the

Newtonian gravitational theory and the new wave theory of light, he was also interested in theological
books. He graduated from there as senior wrangler, which is the best rank for a mathematical
undergraduate at Cambridge (even timely it was called as the greatest intellectual achievement
attainable in Britain ); and also won the Smith s Prize which was an annual award for research

Criticisms Of A Humanistic Psychodynamic Approach
There can be many criticisms for humanistic therapy. This approach can be thought of as too positive
at times, in regards to human behavior. With a humanistic approach individuals are assumed to be
naturally good and will decide to follow the most positive way of doing things, by either making
themselves and the world around them a better place (Mcleod, 2015). Choice and free will at times
can be limited to some people, which then can make the application of this approach difficult.
According to McLeod, Humanistic psychologists argue that objective reality is less important than a
person s subjective perception and understanding of the world . (Mcleod, 2015). This can cause issues
when trying to develop treatment and study it, different factors must be taken into consideration. This
means that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The client centered method is no longer defined in terms of specific techniques or modes of response,
but rather in terms of certain basic attitudes (Gendlin, 1962 as cited in Rogers, 1957, 1959). With the
isolation of schizophrenic patients and also the fact that these patients were assigned psychotherapy
involuntarily , would account for their characteristic refusals, silences, and absence of verbal
exploration, as previously mentioned. (Gendlin, 1962). According to Gendlin, the attitudes of the
therapists had the tendency to greatly increase patients reactions and behaviors, and as such, lead to
modifications in their psychotherapy process. Second, the genuine expressiveness of the of the
therapist is significant as well. It is important for the therapist to express themselves in a way that they
clearly state their feelings at the time, without judgment. It can be said that when therapists take this
approach they have the ability to often solidify and continue relationships by expressing themselves
openly and being genuine. (Gendlin,

The Pride And Joy Of The Family
They ve always called me superstitious, even mad. They ve always called the happening a
coincedence. But I know better and so does Uncle Van, if he is still alive. It occured late at night. Not
a particularly blustery, terrifying, or paralyzing night. On the contrary, it was rather ordinary, with a
light dusting of snow on the pavement. After a round of holiday excursions, an uneventful evening
with just the family (such as it was) was quite welcome, though others might have called it depressing.
We were all gathered around the fire, on the last night of the old year. Julie, the veritable pride and joy
of the family, was there, and so were my father and mother, little Ross, and a small army of aunts,
uncles, and cousins. And then of course, there was Uncle Van. Uncle Van was semi legendary in the
family. Nobody knew much about him. Why he had shown up at all was a mystery in itself. He looked
quite young, but he was old. No one knew how old. His hair was graying only at the edges, and he
step was brisk and lively. His age was only betrayed in his old, old, eyes. Uncle Van possessed a
certain genius for storytelling. I confess that I had spent many of the previous weeks making eyes at
Julie, who had come to stay for the holidays. But for hours, Uncle Van had held us under a spell, and
we sat as wide eyed and open mouthed as any naive
babe and listened to the tales of myth, mystery, and magic that he told us. Even to this day, I

Animal Cruelty And Its Effects On Our Lives
Around 2.7 million of our companion animals are euthanized each year. It happens because many
people are giving up their pets and not a lot of people are adopting pets. Due to the economic crisis
few years ago, more owners threw away their pets to the streets, increasing the number of stray
animals. Shelters have no more space for incoming animals, so they forced to euthanize some animals.
The animals who are not euthanized are taken care by the shelters, but comes the next step, adoption.
Since many pets have terrible past lives, they usually show bad behaviours, causing adopters to return
pets. However this problem can be changed with good programs and people. These shelters take
responsibility to protect and improve the lives of abused, abandoned, and homeless dogs and cats.
They will also aim to bring together individuals who are passionate about creating a better future for
our companion animals. This bill will save our companion animals whose lives are in peril by giving
them rescue foster and adoption. There are many types and stages of animal cruelty in our society.
Animal cruelty is when someone does not care about the responsibility to look after an animal. Animal
cruelty can be two things, active and passive abuses. Passive abuse includes the most simple things
like not giving water to the animal, while active abuse is harmful actions, like hurting animals and
worse, killing them. Many animals suffer from the abuse of human irresponsibility. Animals are often

Demagoguery
Throughout history, when it comes to a national crisis, many leaders and politicians tend to advance
towards what the people want to hear. In order to gain their audience s support, most political leaders
and public speakers use the practice of demagoguery to have useful influence held towards their
argument. In Patricia Roberts Miller s article Democracy, Demagoguery, and Critical Rhetoric,
analyzes what demagoguery is and how it affects the audience. Speakers or authoritative figures that
engage with demagoguery use strategies such as scapegoating and polarization in order to establish a
separation between in groups and out groups; in groups tend to form hateful discrimination on out
groups and define them with negative features. An example of demagoguery that Roberts Miller uses
is in Adolf Hitler s speech about how he wanted German people to change their views and beliefs on
the Jewish. Her article however, also consists of several fallacies and may seem somewhat unethical.
Throughout Wayne LaPierre s speech on the Newtown Tragedy in 2012, there is usage of what
Roberts Miller claims to be demagoguery. Wayne LaPierre is the Vice President of the National Rifle
Association (NRA). After the shooting that occurred at Sandy Hook elementary, LaPierre expresses
his sympathy for the families of the loss and he then gathers the attention of parents who may be
uneasy about their children s safety at school. Throughout

Comprehensive School Counseling Program Evaluation Essay
In order to provide a comprehensive school counseling program (CSCP) that meets the unique needs
of Ocean Elementary School, the school counselor must understand the needs of the school.
Therefore, conducting a needs assessment can help a new school counselor to evaluate the CSCP in
order to plan, implement, and improve the effectiveness of the program (Astramovich Coker, 2007).
Additionally, utilizing the accountability bridge counseling program evaluation model, a continuous
evaluation cycle helps to improve services based on stakeholder feedback, the needs of those served,
and outcomes (Astramovich Coker, 2007). Within this model, a needs assessment must be conducted
in order to plan and develop services that address the needs of the students (Astramovich Coker,
2007). Thus, by utilizing assessment questionnaires, the school counselor can gather information from
the diverse population of students, parents, teachers, and administrator to determine how the CSCP
can best support all students needs (American School Counselor Association [ASCA], 2012).
Additionally, the use of other data, such as observations, standardized test scores, absentee rates, and
student referrals can support the feedback received on the questionnaires. Based on the data, the
school counselor can evaluate the school counseling program in order to improve the program in the
domain areas of academic, social/emotional, and career development. Thus, within the accountability

Literary Analysis Of Their Eyes Were Watching God
Literary Analysis Paper #4
Their Eyes Were Watching God
Abid Ahmad
November 15, 2017
Our emotions are the single most human characteristics that we possess, making them nearly
impossible to encapsulate. The oppression that some of us might face may seem so great that a
limitless lexicon still won t suffice in order to convey our feelings. Similarly, the eternal feeling of
love, an intangible force that drives many of us in our actions sometimes will never receive the justice
it deserves through concrete diction. Rather, sometimes the only way to convey such internal feelings
is by externalizing it in our environment. Zora Neil Hurston does this in her novel Their Eyes Were
Watching God. She does this on every level, ranging from very broad and general symbols that can be
tweaked to different situations, to very specific images that convey an in depth and singular message.
This range allows Hurston to work her metaphors through each situation on almost every sentence,
while still flooding the novel with sensory detail. This integration between symbolism and nature is
essential in bringing the book to life. Using ever lasting images of the sun, trees, and animals as
analogies allow the reader to fully visualize the beauty in the ambience of Hurston s novel. These
extended metaphors serve the dual purpose of fascinating imagery, while adding to the diverse and
dynamic tone of the book. Hurston primarily employed her metaphors through timeless and broad
images such as the

The Efficient Market Hypothesis ( Emh )
The Efficient Markets Hypothesis (EMH) The classic statements of the Efficient Markets Hypothesis
(or EMH for short) are to be found in Roberts (1967) and Fama (1970) An efficient market is defined
as a market where there are large numbers of rational, profit maximizes actively competing, with each
trying to predict future market values of individual securities, and where important current
information is almost freely available to all participants. In an efficient market, competition among the
many intelligent participants leads to a situation where, at any point in time, actual prices of individual
securities already reflect the effects of information based both on events that have already occurred
and on events which, as of now, the market expects to take place in the future. In other words, in an
efficient market at any point in time the actual price of a security will be a good estimate of its
intrinsic value. (Fama, 1970) Strong form EMH In its strongest structure, the EMH says a business
sector is effective if all data applicable to the estimation of an offer, whether by and large accessible to
existing or potential speculators, is rapidly and precisely reflected in the business cost. Case in point,
if the current business cost is lower than the quality advocated by some bit of secretly held data, the
holders of that data will misuse the valuing peculiarity by purchasing the shares. They

As A Matter Of Opinion The Second Film Does A Better Job
As a matter of opinion the second film does a better job of delving into the story than the original
movie. While watching the first film there are a lot of things that are done by characters that leave
unanswered questions. The film only tells the overlying story of the chocolate factory and lacks depth
past Wonka s character. The second film digs deep into Wonka s past and explains why he became a
Chocolate maker through his father who was a dentist and despised candy. The added storyline about
Wonka s past creates a more in depth storyline which includes a lot of intertwined stories. The original
just tells the stories as is, but the newer film adds the element of flashbacks and uses them a lot. The
flashbacks help the viewer get caught ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So yes the Oompa Loompas are technically slaves and Willy Wonka is the master who gains his
wealth from their work and keeps them from obtaining knowledge of the outside world by keeping
them inside the locked gates of the factory. Grandpa Joe introduces the audience to the labor issues at
Wonka s factory while Wonka s origin tale of the Oompa Loompas conveys the power dynamic
between Wonka and the Oompa Loompas. Also the Oompa Loompas never tell their own story, only
do the others tell their story. (Corbin) With the Grandpa Joe s story it can be concluded that the poor
economic status in which the Bucket family is in, was caused by Wonka s firing of all of his
employees. In the 1971 film the Oompa Loompas are small, orange skinned, and green haired men.
This is because the film came out shortly after the Civil Rights movement. Dahl himself changed them
so that they would not represent a specific group of people, but instead be cute chocolate making
characters with goofy outfits and green hair. In the 2005 film the te three thousand Oompa Loompas

Thermodynamic Optimization of Flow Over an Isothermal...
Boundary layers are thin regions next to the wall in the flow where viscous forces are important. The
above mentioned wall can be in various geometrical shapes. Blasius [1] studied the simplest boundary
layer over a flat plate. He employed a similarity transformation which reduces the partial differential
boundary layer equations to a nonlinear third order ordinary differential one before solving it
analytically. The boundary layer flow over a moving plate in a viscous fluid has been considered by
Klemp and Acrivos [2], Hussaini et al. [3], Fang and Zhang [4] and recently Ishak et al. [5] and
Cortell[6] which is an extension of the flow over a static plate considered by Blasius. A large amount

Substituting Eqs.(5) and (6) into Eq.(2) we obtained the following ordinary differential equation. f^
(η)+f(η)f (η)=0 (7)
With these boundary conditions:
f(0)=0 ,f^ (0)=λ (8) lim┬(η→∞)⁡
〖f^ (η)〗 = 1
Where λ=u_w/u_∞ is the plate velocity ratio that represents the direction and magnitude of the
moving plate.
The skin friction coefficient C_f can be defined as:
C_f=τ_w/(ρ〖〖 u〗_∞〗^2 ) (9)
Where τ_w is the surface shear stress which is given by: τ_w=├ μ(∂u/∂y)┤| y=0 (10)
Substituting Eqs.(5),(6) into Eqs. (9) and (10) we obtain:
√(2〖Re〗_x ) C_f=f^ (0) (11)
Where 〖Re〗_x is the local Reynolds number.
Looking for Similarity solution for energy equation, Eq.3, we obtained: θ^ (η)+Pr f(η) θ^ (η)=0 (12)
Where θ=(T T_∞)/(T_w T_∞ ) (13)
Is dimensionless temperature and Pr=ν/α .
The boundary conditions are:
At η=0: θ(0)=1 (14) lim┬(η→∞)⁡
θ(η) = θ(∞)=0
The local Nusselt number〖 Nu〗_x, is defined as:
〖Nu〗_x=(x q_w)/(k (T_w T_∞)) (15)
Where q_w is the surface heat flux which is: q_w= k├ ∂T/∂y┤|_(y=0 ) (16)

nowadays and what is even more important, the number of websites in other languages is growing
rapidly. From the beginning of this century the use of English online increased by around 300%, a
lower rate of growth than that of Spanish (700%), Chinese (1,300%), or Russian (1,800%).

You do not want to stay behind your competition, do you?
Even the internet searches in the same language, but from the computers located in different countries,
will bring different results. For example, when you search for exactly the same keywords from the
U.S. and from the neighboring Canada, you will get somewhat different websites order as a result. It
means that your website might be in a very good position on top of many others for the U.S. searchers,
but not in the same high position for the Canadian searchers as some pure Canadian websites on the
topic might very well go ahead of you for them. Google knows a searcher s location by the IP address
and automatically opens the country s version by default. Plus it may be in English or French if we
talk about Canada, and again the search results will be different from each other according to the
language used, and also different from what you probably see on your computer in the U.S.
The same happens with searches by the country specific search engines in foreign languages.

Racial Profiling, An Unjust Act And A Big Problem
According to the 11 Facts about Racial Discrimination, The U.S. Bureau of Justice Statistics
concluded that an African American male born in 2001 has a 32% chance of going to jail in his
lifetime, while a Latino male has a 17% chance, and a white male only has a 6% chance (11 Facts
about Racial Discrimination 1). Racial profiling, or discriminating against a whole group of people
based on their race, is an unjust act and a big problem in our society today. Arresting people because
of how they look like, or what they believe in is absurd. According to ACLU, Racial Profiling refers to
the discriminatory practice by law enforcement officials of targeting individuals for suspicion of crime
based on the individual s race, ethnicity, religion or national origin (ACLU 1). Although law
enforcement assumes they are doing their job, they need to remain objective and fair in all situations,
because they are violating rights, lacking protection and risking lives.
Law enforcement violates the rights of people by unfairly stereotyping minority groups. By
stereotyping minorities, law enforcement officers are violating the rights of the citizens being falsely
accused because of their race. Some law enforcement programs are highly known for violating an
entire group of people s rights (FBI 1). According to the article by Driscoll and Newton, racial
profiling violates individuals civil rights, alienates both individuals, and entire populations, and often

Disadvantages Of Space Heaters
People often turn to portable space heaters for help warming rooms when their primary home heating
system isn t quite up to the task. Others prefer space heaters for the savings they provide by allowing
you to heat only the rooms you use. There are many different types of portable heaters, all of which
use slightly different methods to warm the space. Which one will work best for you depends on the
characteristics of the space you will be heating. You should also take into account how loud the heater
is when running and consider safety issues, especially if you have children or pets.
The overwhelming majority of space heaters available today are electric. This is because most states
have banned unvented combustible space heaters due to carbon monoxide and other gasses. Vented
kerosene and gas heaters are available, but are not portable, as they require the installation of a vent
from the heater to the outside of the home.
Radiant Heaters
Infrared
Radiant heaters work by warming objects directly adjacent to them. They provide heat quickly but do
so in a straight line. Like the sun s rays, infrared heat warms only objects in its direct path and cannot
work around obstacles. As a result, infrared heaters work best in open areas free of obstructions. These
heaters use very little energy but do emit a soft orange glow, which some feel makes them bothersome
in bedrooms. They are also hot to the touch and require caution when used around pets and children.
Infrared heaters do run silently, however. If you are sitting in one spot for a length of time, an infrared
heater aimed in your direction will be a good choice.
Many infrared heaters are now built into wooden cabinets. This makes the heaters more attractive and
cooler to the touch.
Radiators
Radiant heat is also created by portable oil filled radiators. These radiant heaters consist of a series of
tubes filled with oil. This oil is warmed and then the heat radiates off of the unit to the surrounding
area. The oil in these heaters is warmed but never burned as fuel, so there is no need to refill them or
perform other maintenance tasks. Like infrared heaters, oil filled radiators are very energy efficient
and silent but hot to the touch. Unlike an infrared

The Issue Of Juvenile Delinquency
The issue of Juvenile Delinquency has always been of great concern to society and due to the
perceived notion that the nation s future depends on the development of its youth, understanding the
factors that cause them to commit criminal activities will help identify what leads youth to turn
towards crime and the circumstances that influence them commit criminal behaviour (Shoemaker,
2010). Modern culture is constantly bombarded with the belief system of economic wealth and
success, of achieving cultured goals and success in order to attain materialistic wealth, status and the
accumulation of money to live that lifestyle. However not everyone have equal opportunities to obtain
these goals through legitimate means and are either hindered or blocked due to various circumstances
that do not serve them well (Hoffmann, 2011). There are several factors that help understand and link
juvenile delinquency in Urban Areas. Some of these factors include, Social Disorganization,
Unemployment, Poverty
In the research article by Chung, Mulvey Steinberg (2011), two main factors were taken into account
in order to better understand the study. The first study investigated included how poor school
academic outcomes and low levels of achievements or dropouts had an effect among juvenile
offenders. The second study investigated whether neighborhood factors had an influence on poor
academic outcomes resulting in juvenile offenders. The data obtain for the study

The Importance Of Folk And Popular Culture
For one of my cultural visits I went to a Mexican restaurant, El Molcajete, in Geneva, IL. In this
restaurant I observed elements of folk and popular culture which included the music that was playing
there, which was mariachi band music which made the place feel more authentic to Mexico. The
music from the mariachi band was a piece of their folk culture they had, because they used violins,
trumpets, guitarron a spanish guitar used in most Spanish music, and a vihuela a five stringed guitar
with a high pitch. Some of the popular culture that was there was the outfits the servers were wearing
which was a plain old t shirt and some black pants, and it was more popular culture because nowadays
servers wear a shirt and pants that match what the theme or idea of the restaurant is. I categorized the
mariachi band as part of the folk culture because the instruments that they were using were traditional
instruments used in Mexico to produce the Spanish sound. The servers outfits I categorized as popular
culture because of the fact that servers in many restaurants nowadays wear the same clothing that is
casual, making it an element of popular culture. In my opinion I think that the folk elements are seen
around but not practiced in everything that is in the restaurant, due to the exposure to the popular
culture of our world. In the restaurant, some tools or utensils used in the restaurant include a basket
that holds tortillas warm, but does not make them soggy or cold because of a

The Concept Of Leadership And Leadership
Thought Item 2 (Option 1)
In today s society the concept of leadership provides a structure for decisions to be made within teams,
organizations, and businesses. The notion that only leaders should be credited for the success or
failure carried out by their teams has been instilled in our minds since we first understood the concept
of hierarchies. The fact that most business schools even posses a required leadership course proves the
significance of this concept within today s society. While it is astounding how essential the idea of
leadership has become, it is important for us to begin looking at leadership under a new light:
leadership does not exist without followers because the followers themselves are the true leaders. It is

The amount of work that the head of a team puts into a project is quite small compared to the total
amount of work applied by everyone associated with the completion of the task. When defining the
significance of roles within organizations, it is important to factor in the composition of the culture as
a whole. Many people credit the creation of an organization s culture to the head of the organization.
While this single leader may define how they envision the culture to be, the members as a whole truly
develop the culture. This insight allows us to shift our focus from the leader to the followers. As a
society, by accepting the fact that followers are our true leaders, we are bound to endure many positive
and negative consequences resulting from the implementation. Followers will likely feel more
empowered to make more decisions because they will be receiving more recognition for their work.
This increase in empowerment will cause followers to be more productive within their roles, which
will lead to a harder working society as a whole as more and more organizational structures follow
suit. Another positive aspect of following this new approach is that we will steer away from the great
amount of negative consequences created by single leaders due to the current composition of
leadership. For businesses, less money will be allocated towards executives because they will no
longer make as much money solely off of their title within

Analysis Of The Movie Fall Arrives
Fall arrives in the city with cool, crisp winds that brush leaves from the ground into the air in a slow
churning whirlwind causing them to dance about, descending to the moist ground. A yellow cab is
patiently circling the neighborhood in search of fares, which has been a twenty year practice of Max a
stout, older man with a protruding belly that strains the buttons of his faded, much wrinkled shirt. He
slowly drinks a cup of lukewarm coffee singing my mama told me you better shop around... He looks
up at the sky at dark, overcast clouds, Looks like rain today he says. Max knows the streets of his
hometown better than anyone around. He typically works on the east side of the city around the old
Elmhurst Cemetery. Most people don t venture close to the cemetery claiming that they often see a
young woman walking through it. They are convinced she is a ghost looking for revenge, but these
stories never bother Max nor had he ever seen this ghostly young woman.
Drops of rain begin to tap his windshield, but not enough for Max to engage his wipers. He continues
to drive, sip on his coffee, singing until the rain begins to violently pound his cab prompting him to
slam on his brakes. The cab swerves, his coffee spills on his chest and runs down his belly, Crap! Max
exclaims in frustration. With his cab still swerving, he comes close to hitting a young woman crossing
the street near the cemetery just before he stops short of hitting her left leg. He was shocked to see

Chain Letter By Christopher Pike

other terrible options, including death. The person who wrote these letters, signed as Caretaker knows
about a crime they committed, when they were all together that only the group members know about.
Pike makes this story enjoyable by including sequence and structure. The sequence was substantial
because it was present time which was helpful to understand what was going on in the story. It also
has a good amount of flashbacks, but only to parts that are important. A good example is one page 38

Online Dating Analysis
Another aspect that social media drives is that of the human condition; one interesting phenomena that
has developed has been online dating. Although one would hope that people are still meeting and
developing relationships the old fashioned way that being meeting face to face, online dating now
represents (Beck 2013). In fact, in 2013, 23% of all people that meet online will get married (1). The
author establishes that the number is expected to continue to grow as more people spend time online
rather than in a live social setting. It could be argued that in the absence of people meeting in settings
conducive to intermingling, those who were shy or seeking a specific type of person would use a
dating service. To a certain extent, there is direct connectivity to having faith in a third party to match
people. Although afraid to engage the social network as a way of meeting a partner because of the fear
of the unknown, in reality it could be suggested that meeting someone through a dating service also
did not present that much more security (1).

Summary: This book was a very interesting read. The story was written by the former award winning
correspondent for the Wall Street Journal and The Washington Post, Mr. Ronald Kessler in 1989. He
gave us an insight on how KGB, one of the world s most effective information gathering organization
penetrated the United States Embassy in Moscow (Moscow Station). A Marine by the name of Sgt
Clayton Lonetree, is known throughout the Marine Security Guard program, because of his conviction
of espionage against the United States. He was used by the KGB to access the most vulnerable parts of
the U.S. Embassy, and help provide a threat to our national security. The Russian spies used the term

the Russian spies to place bugs in the most sensitive areas to gather classified information. Once his

Sidney Defends The Worth Of Poetry
Sidney defends the worth of poetry by presenting us with a long defense written to William Ponsonby,
a very popular publisher of the Elizabethan era. Sidney breaks his argument down into eight sections,
each one arguing another point as to why poetry is worthy and should not be thought of as sub par
literature. His arguments are thorough, leaving no gaps between thoughts, and very persuasive in both
content and style. I believe his argument is both successful and thorough, covering everything that has
been critiqued about poesy in the ages before this work was written.
Sidney opens with the first section called the Exordium in lines 1 50. It is significant to note that it
was printed several years after his death, communicating the aristocratic air we get from him,
manliness, courtier, advisor, masculine roles that Sidney is hinting at comparing himself to a horse
master. The introduction here of his argument is lighthearted and funny, if I had not been a piece of a
logician before I came to him I think he would have persuaded me to have wished myself a horse (27
30). This show of establishing his own good character through Ethos, pathos the applying to peoples
emotions as well as William Ponsonby s emotions, as this is whom the argument is addressed to.
Sidney s thesis is visible in lines 43 51 where he says that he will bring forth the evidence to prove
that poetry is a worthy literary medium and that without poetry we do not have history or philosophy.

America and the English Language Essay
America and the English Language To what degree do the words you use define the person you are?
This is a central question in the hotly debated issue of making English the official language of the
United States. If English did become the official language, the rights of people who do not speak
English would be violated and the nation would be further segregated. Just as schools were segregated
in our past, this again would show that segregation equals discrimination. People must understand that
every citizen deserves the right to celebrate their diversity. The government need not interfere with the
words that come out of people s mouths. In a country torn by prejudice and segregation, the official
language should serve as a reminder ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But, how can America promise that if its laws are intolerant to the immigrants languages? By not
accepting their language, they are immediately set up to be an outsider. They are seen as foreigners as
opposed to citizens. People who don t speak English are often assumed not to be Americans. In order
to assist in the conversion of the immigrants to a new society, is necessary to provide them with signs,
documents, ballots that they can understand.
As Dickstein points out, denying them of materials in their language does not help them learn English
any faster. He proposes that America should not be English only but strive to be English Plus. By this
he means that we should not prohibit the use of other languages in order to make immigrants speak
English. On the contrary, he suggests that English Plus, like English only, demands that everything
feasible be done to encourage all Americans to achieve a minimum level of competence in English
and to share a vision of what it means to be American. People who do not speak English should be
responsible for learning the language. America should make access to English classes more attainable
and widespread. After all, a person does not just pick up a language because the government requires
it. It takes months or even years of practice and hard work. So in the mean time, it makes no sense to
deny them of articles in their own languages.

Causes And Effects Of The Third Crusade Of The Three Kings
Effects of the Third Crusade

The Third Crusade, also known as the Crusade of the Three Kings, was led by King Richard the
Lionheart of England, Holy Roman Emperor Barbarossa of Germany and King Philip II of France.
The Third Crusade was born out of a catastrophe for Christendom. This crusade was to prevent the
Muslim armies from ruling over Jerusalem and to crush the Kurdish emperor Saladin so that he could
not take any more land from the Crusaders. The Third crusade was to reclaim the Holy Land from the
Muslims. It was also caused because after capturing the Christian held coastal ports and Jerusalem in
1187, Saladin invaded Syria in 1188 and took one Crusader castle after another and captured the city
of Latakia. The Third Crusade were two campaigns which were the Siege of Acre and the Battle of

The Power Of Myth By Joseph Campbell
Culture is something that influences everyone s individual behaviorisms, both consciously and
unconsciously. Everybody has a personal culture, often learned from other groups, which then have
their own distinct characteristics. Joseph Campbell was a celebrated American scholar who studied
mythology, having popularized the idea of the hero s journey. The Power of Myth is a book based on
the six episode documentary Joseph Campbell and the Power of Myth, in which Campbell and
interviewer Bill Moyers examine the human world. Both discuss Campbell s thoughts about
mythology, and ultimately culture. Campbell s The Power of Myth introduces important ideas that don
t completely agree with my own values, but still shares notable similarities with ... Show more content

Moreover, Campbell dedicated his life to studying myth and religion, something that I probably
wouldn t choose to do with my time. Another instance where Campbell shared his dissimilar
observations of myths is his assertion that [i]f you were not alert to the parallel themes, you perhaps
would think they were quite different stories, but they re not. (Campbell 14). Campbell has studied so
many myths that he was able to find the universal lessons that humans have learned. Another
interpretation is that Campbell has made the generalization that all myths are essentially the same. I
believe that while there may be overarching themes found throughout myths, there are still key
differences that make each culture s mythology unique. Trying to group everything into a precise
category or combining all myths into a single monomyth makes any other possibilities obsolete. For
example, both my favorite TV show and book series retell well known fairy tales. Finding new
meanings in a story that is otherwise cliché can be eye opening. I think myths and fairy tales alike
reflect the variances between cultures and times, which fluctuate, but Campbell concluded that all
myths tell the same story. This is yet another disparity between Campbell s views on myth and my
own.
Campbell s personal values didn t seem to emphasize independence and diversity as much as mine.
For instance, Campbell said that marriage is the

Napoleon s Ideals
How have historians tried to evaluate the ultimate goal of Napoleon I, Emperor of the French? With
such a variety of perspectives, there is no single theory that can fully answer the breadth of the
question. Instead, kaleidoscopes of opinions that span centuries from Napoleon s time to
contemporary research give us the best analysis of his ambitions and overall goals. No matter the era,
historian s opinions of Napoleon shift between admiring his achievements, in varying contexts of
military victories, reorganizing governmental systems, or establishing civil codes, to criticizing his
personal lust for power culminating in his assumption of the title of emperor. This essay will discuss
the varying opinions by which historians view Napoleon I, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This argument is not very persuasive because it ignores other aspects of Napoleon s regime, such as
his military efforts.
In addition to Mansel, Frederik C. Schneid writes about Napoleon s ambition in using his power and
genius in creating an empire. Schneid brings forth the militaristic aspect of Napoleon s government
and his abilities as a general. For instance, he elaborates: [Napoleon] pursued an imperium sine fine,
an empire without end, and his inability to formulate a coherent political system to consolidate his
position of European hegemony condemned him to rule over a Europe in constant strife with his
regime. He makes the point that Napoleon s desire for glory and sweeping military victories were the
cause behind his goal of conquering the continent of Europe. Similar to Mansel s argument, Schneid
only considers a singular perspective in his approach, leaving out other crucial variables that effect
Napoleon s motivation to achieve his ultimate

Research Paper On Minerve
Situated on the southern part of the Natural Park of Haute Languedoc, at the foot hills of Montainge
Noire and only 1 hour drive from the Mediterranean sea, the little village of Minerve, population 122,
is in the same time the historic capital of the Minervois region, an outstanding historic AND geologic
site and a member of the Most beautiful villages of France Les Plus Beaux Villages de France
community. Built on a rocky bluff, Minerve, or Menerba in the local Occitan language, overlooks
from an altitude of more than 60 meters (200 feet) the gorges of the Rivers Cesse and Brian. The
Minerve village region le Minervois was inhabited since the prehistoric times. The region, together

It is here that on July 22, 1210, 180 Cathars who did not renounce their faith were burned alive, after
Minerve fell to the crusaders army at the end of a siege that lasted 7 weeks. The siege ended when, in
the middle of the summer with both Rivers Brian and Cesse dry, the crusaders, led by the notorious
Simon de Monfort, destroyed the village s only water source, Saint Rustic well, whose remains can be
still seen today. Minerve, the village hovering above two canyons and surrounded by strong defensive
walls, was a not to be ignored place during medieval or late medieval warfare and so it participated
also in the religious wars of the 16th century when it was a hiding place for Huguenots who were
defeated here by the armies of the Marshall Anne de Montmorency. Besides being a high historic site,
Minerve, or more precisely the natural caves called ponts formed in the Cesse River canyon walls,
where the river actually disappears when in low flow, make an exceptional geological site. Le
Minervois region, a patchwork of vineyards, olive orchards, and cypres and Mediterranean pine trees
groves, has been well known since antiquity it was the Romans the first to grow here vitis vinifera for

Structure and Function of Eukaryotic Cell Organelles
What are eukaryotic and prokaryotic cells?
Organelles in Eukaryotic Cells
The Nucleus.
Nearly all animal cells have a nucleus, with the only exception being the red blood cell. The nucleus
has two major functions, which are housing the DNA and controlling the cell s activities. In the centre
of the nucleus is the nucleolus. This doesn t have a membrane, but holds itself together. In the
nucleolus, ribosomes are created through the mixture of RNA and proteins. These proteins are
originally found in the cytoplasm, outside the nucleus, but they travel through the pores in the nuclear
envelope, through the chromatin and into the nucleolus. The structure of the nucleolus allows easy ...

The body has two faces, the cis face which fuses with incoming transport vesicles, and the trans face
which excretes the secretory vesicles. The cis face fuses with vesicles coming from the ER effectively
from many directions due to its convex shape, whereas the concave trans face can direct the secretory
vesicles to their destination. When fusing with the cis face, the transport vesicles release their proteins
to be absorbed for modification. Each cisternal layer of the Golgi body holds different enzymes which
each modify the passing proteins in separate ways. Between the layers the proteins are moved through
the gaps by small vesicles. When a protein has been modified correctly, it leaves the Golgi body via
secretory vesicles which then carry the modified proteins to the cell membrane or another organelle.
The proteins that are transported to the cell membrane are either excreted from the cell, or absorbed
into the membrane to aid with its function. Some of the secretory vesicles which hold hydrolytic
enzymes stay within the cytoplasm and function as lysosomes.
Lysosomes.
Lysosomes are specialized vesicles that are created by the Golgi body. Their role is to digest any worn
out, excess or unwanted bodies within the cell. This could include bacteria or viruses as well as
mitochondria which are no longer effective. To do this they contain an

What´s Vertical Integration
When searching for research to analyze and write about, I leaned more towards marketing and sales,
which I want to ultimately work in. When I came across this article Moving close to the customers:
effects of vertical integration in the Swedish commercial printing industry , I was interested in what
vertical integration was and what it meant. I also was caught by the fact this was published using
Swedish commercial printing. In this day and age, our country is becoming more and more globalized,
and relies on other countries services and goods. I always find it interesting what other countries are
doing in terms of business and maybe industries in America can learn from what they have
implemented.
Starting of reading this article, I was completely lost and wanted to quit. Vertical integration seemed
too big of a concept to wrap my head around and the article had so many stats and figures I was going
crazy. After dissecting the article parts by part and figuring out what vertical integration meant, the
research started to make sense. To start off what the research talks about lets define vertical integrated.
According to Adelman, it states that a firm is vertically integrated whenever it transmits from one of
its departments to another good or service which could, without major adaptation, be sold in the
market. . Ultimately a company is vertically integrated when firms integrates activities in the value
chain to produce its own inputs and/or takes care of its own

Impact Of Technology On Academic Performance
CHAPTER ONE THE PROBLEM AND ITS SCOPE Introduction The classroom setting in the old
times consisted of teachers writing down their lessons on the board while the students copy them in
their notebooks. While this method is still practiced today, most schools now use technology in
learning. New methods of teachings are being introduced and applied in various schools in the
country. One of the improvements is the use of Powerpoint presentations for visual aids instead of the
traditional style of writing on the board or using cartolinas and manila papers. Due to this change,
students have also developed the technique of taking pictures or taking notes with the use of their
gadgets. This study aims to find out whether the application of ... Show more content on

should continue on or prevented because of the negative effects it has on the learning process of the
students. The researchers have gathered some beneficiaries of the study such as the: Students. This
study can help them be more self aware on which method of note taking would best benefit them in
their studying rather than what is just more convenient for them. Teachers. They can consider the
findings of this study as a guide on whether to continue allowing their students to use their gadgets in
class for note taking or start encouraging them to go back to writing down notes with a pen. Parents.
They can also be beneficiaries of this study so that they will understand how allowing their children to

  • 2. Lady Brett Ashley in The Sun Also Rises Essay Lady Brett Ashley was a very important character in the book The Sun Also Rises. She had it all, she was pretty, and she had four guys ogling over her. Four guys!!!! She was independent, she could do whatever she wanted. She was definitely not sympathetic however, nore would she be a good role model for anyone because yes, she does treat her male friends cruelly. Lets start with her relationships with the guys. She can basically get whatever she wants, they will do anything for her, because they find her so attractive. Even if they want something in return, she will be happy to give it to them, she has it all. However that is all she does, she moves from guy to guy like she does not even care. Which by the way, she does not. Basically, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She was unlike anything they had ever seen or would ever get to see again. She was different, but in a good way. She was one of them. Mike once compared her to circe, a character in a Greek myth who lured in men and then she transformed them into animals. Brett just wants sex without love, instead of the other way around like Jake. Brett had good and bad qualities. She was not all bad. I personally would not pick her for a role model but I will admit she had some admirable qualities. For example, the way she changed over the course of the novel. At first she did not really care about anyone or anything but herself. Then she began to realize what she did to people and she began to consider the feeling a of others as well as her own. If her relationship with Pedro had occurred at the beginning of the novel, she probably would have given no thought to what effects their relationship would have on him. However, by the end of the novel she had gained the understanding to know that he should do what is right, put away her own feelings, and leave him for his own good. She could be used as a role model because of her liberty. She is never tied down, as if she is floating in the breeze, aimlessly wandering from place to place. She does not conform. She does what she wants when she wants and does not let other people tell her what to do. She is dependent on no one in the sense that she does not care what others think. • 3. Herman Melvilles A Utilitarian View Of The Monitor s Fight Herman Melville s A Utilitarian View of the Monitor s Fight was a part of a collection of poems from the book titled Battle Pieces and Aspects of the War, published in 1866. It was the first book of poetry written by Melville. According to authors Geoffrey Sanborn and Samuel Otter, It is a great anti war poem, one that in its focus upon warfare as the expression of industrial power could be said to lay the groundwork for an anti war tradition of poetry in English that would reach a kind of pinnacle in Wilfred Owen s Dulce Et Decorum Est (Sanborn and Otter, 2011). Hence, the United States has approximately 13,000 military aircraft that were built in factories. Comparatively, China and Russia, the world s next largest aerial powers, only have a total of 2,000 to 3,000 military aircraft each (Bender, 2015) that were produced in factories. Firefighters and policeman are the epitome of bravery, but, occasionally, an ordinary person dares to be just as courageous. In Harper Lee s To Kill a Mockingbird, three innocent children face the tribulations of a town engulfed in racism while their father, Atticus, confronts the issue with a trail that could revolutionize the future for African Americans. The first gallant act that displays the bravery Atticus possesses would be when he faces a mass of angry Maycomb citizens. In this scene, Mr. Heck Tate accompanied by other men show up on Atticus s door step; Heck says he does not expect any trouble by Atticus counters the idea saying Don t be foolish, Heck, ... Conversely, a few individuals believe that the cons did not outweigh the pros, they thought the dangers involved were too great but Atticus proved his skills when with movements so swift they seemed simultaneous, Atticus s hand yanked a ball tipped lever as he brought the gun to his shoulder (Lee 127). In other words, does everyone share in the gains and the costs equally? b. Competing with different labor restrictions (or lack thereof), such as slave or child labor. c. Differences in environmental standards. In the following basic demand and supply model free trade allows countries to specialize in producing the goods in which they have the lowest opportunity cost. This lowers the price of the good in other countries, as those countries can import it from the lower cost countries. Generally, consumers in a country benefit from the lower prices, but producers lose revenue because they produce less and at a lower price in equilibrium (and the government gets less tax revenue if there was a tariff in place before free trade). To begin to believe the defense given by Jorge s attorney was powerful or persuasive is giving it too much credit. In my opinion the structure and delivery of all of his points that I will describe only further supported the opposing sides arguments. He began his statements by saying everything was misconstrued and was simply a misunderstanding given by the child. • 10. The Canadian Community Health Survey Purpose of the CCHS: The Canadian Community Health Survey (CCHS) is a federal cross sectional assessment that aims to obtain health related information at the regional tier. This series of surveys gathers population level data linked with health status, health care usage, and the root causes affecting overall health. The CCHS aims to document emerging health trends that can assist in population health research and additional health surveillance programs. Furthermore, the effective utilization of the CCHS can serve as a platform to improve the well being of all Canadians and raise awareness about health concerns and innovative health strategies. When did it start and why? The CCHS is a joint effort of Health Canada, the Public Health Agency of Canada, Statistics Canada, and the Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI). In 1991, the National Task Force on Health Information highlighted various discrepancies with the collection and management of Canadian health data. As a result, a Health Information Roadmap was constructed and a framework for the CCHS was developed. The CCHS initiative began surveying in 2001, and, in 2015, the CCHS implemented a new collection mandate resulting from a redesign project that included significant content modifications. In the context of globalization, International trade has become an even more important topic now that so many countries have begun to move from state run to market driven economies. Tariff and non tariff barriers play a large part in this process. Tariff Barriers Tariffs are among the oldest forms of government economic intervention. Non tariff barriers to trade can be: * State subsidies, procurement, trading, and ownership. * National regulations on health, safety, employment. * Product classification. * Quotas. * Foreign Exchange: controls and multiplicity. * Over elaborate or inadequate infrastructure. * Buy national policy. * Intellectual property laws (patents and copyrights). * Bribery and corruption. * Unfair customs procedures. Vladimir Putin s policies are both supported by John Locke and Thomas Hobbes, but when it comes to Vladimir Putin as a person only Hobbes is right. For the past four years I have felt called to be a counselor. I can understand teenagers, which is what I wanted my counseling group to be, more than anyone. I felt called to counseling because I wanted to use my past trials and mistakes to help others. I felt like that was the only way I would be able to serve God. I felt if I did not stay with my career in counseling that I would be betraying God because I was not directly showing His light to others through my career. • 17. Criticisms Of A Humanistic Psychodynamic Approach There can be many criticisms for humanistic therapy. This approach can be thought of as too positive at times, in regards to human behavior. With a humanistic approach individuals are assumed to be naturally good and will decide to follow the most positive way of doing things, by either making themselves and the world around them a better place (Mcleod, 2015). Choice and free will at times can be limited to some people, which then can make the application of this approach difficult. But I know better and so does Uncle Van, if he is still alive. It occured late at night. Not a particularly blustery, terrifying, or paralyzing night. On the contrary, it was rather ordinary, with a light dusting of snow on the pavement. After a round of holiday excursions, an uneventful evening with just the family (such as it was) was quite welcome, though others might have called it depressing. We were all gathered around the fire, on the last night of the old year. Julie, the veritable pride and joy of the family, was there, and so were my father and mother, little Ross, and a small army of aunts, uncles, and cousins. And then of course, there was Uncle Van. Uncle Van was semi legendary in the family. Nobody knew much about him. Why he had shown up at all was a mystery in itself. He looked quite young, but he was old. No one knew how old. His hair was graying only at the edges, and he step was brisk and lively. His age was only betrayed in his old, old, eyes. Uncle Van possessed a certain genius for storytelling. Shelters have no more space for incoming animals, so they forced to euthanize some animals. The animals who are not euthanized are taken care by the shelters, but comes the next step, adoption. Since many pets have terrible past lives, they usually show bad behaviours, causing adopters to return pets. However this problem can be changed with good programs and people. These shelters take responsibility to protect and improve the lives of abused, abandoned, and homeless dogs and cats. They will also aim to bring together individuals who are passionate about creating a better future for our companion animals. This bill will save our companion animals whose lives are in peril by giving them rescue foster and adoption. There are many types and stages of animal cruelty in our society. Animal cruelty is when someone does not care about the responsibility to look after an animal. Animal cruelty can be two things, active and passive abuses. Passive abuse includes the most simple things like not giving water to the animal, while active abuse is harmful actions, like hurting animals and worse, killing them. Many animals suffer from the abuse of human irresponsibility. Animals are often ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 21. Democracy, Demagoguery, And Critical Rhetoric Julia Vu Professor Parker RWS 200 21 March 2015 Demagoguery Throughout history, when it comes to a national crisis, many leaders and politicians tend to advance towards what the people want to hear. In order to gain their audience s support, most political leaders and public speakers use the practice of demagoguery to have useful influence held towards their argument. In Patricia Roberts Miller s article Democracy, Demagoguery, and Critical Rhetoric, analyzes what demagoguery is and how it affects the audience. Speakers or authoritative figures that engage with demagoguery use strategies such as scapegoating and polarization in order to establish a separation between in groups and out groups; in groups tend to form hateful discrimination on out groups and define them with negative features. An example of demagoguery that Roberts Miller uses is in Adolf Hitler s speech about how he wanted German people to change their views and beliefs on the Jewish. Her article however, also consists of several fallacies and may seem somewhat unethical. Throughout Wayne LaPierre s speech on the Newtown Tragedy in 2012, there is usage of what Roberts Miller claims to be demagoguery. Wayne LaPierre is the Vice President of the National Rifle Association (NRA). After the shooting that occurred at Sandy Hook elementary, LaPierre expresses his sympathy for the families of the loss and he then gathers the attention of parents who may be uneasy about their children s safety at school. • 22. Comprehensive School Counseling Program Evaluation Essay In order to provide a comprehensive school counseling program (CSCP) that meets the unique needs of Ocean Elementary School, the school counselor must understand the needs of the school. Therefore, conducting a needs assessment can help a new school counselor to evaluate the CSCP in order to plan, implement, and improve the effectiveness of the program (Astramovich Coker, 2007). Additionally, utilizing the accountability bridge counseling program evaluation model, a continuous evaluation cycle helps to improve services based on stakeholder feedback, the needs of those served, and outcomes (Astramovich Coker, 2007). Within this model, a needs assessment must be conducted in order to plan and develop services that address the needs of the students (Astramovich Coker, 2007). Thus, by utilizing assessment questionnaires, the school counselor can gather information from the diverse population of students, parents, teachers, and administrator to determine how the CSCP can best support all students needs (American School Counselor Association [ASCA], 2012). Additionally, the use of other data, such as observations, standardized test scores, absentee rates, and student referrals can support the feedback received on the questionnaires. Based on the data, the school counselor can evaluate the school counseling program in order to improve the program in the domain areas of academic, social/emotional, and career development. • 25. Literary Analysis Of Their Eyes Were Watching God Literary Analysis Paper #4 Their Eyes Were Watching God Abid Ahmad November 15, 2017 Our emotions are the single most human characteristics that we possess, making them nearly impossible to encapsulate. The oppression that some of us might face may seem so great that a limitless lexicon still won t suffice in order to convey our feelings. Similarly, the eternal feeling of love, an intangible force that drives many of us in our actions sometimes will never receive the justice it deserves through concrete diction. Rather, sometimes the only way to convey such internal feelings is by externalizing it in our environment. Zora Neil Hurston does this in her novel Their Eyes Were Watching God. She does this on every level, ranging from very broad and general symbols that can be tweaked to different situations, to very specific images that convey an in depth and singular message. This range allows Hurston to work her metaphors through each situation on almost every sentence, while still flooding the novel with sensory detail. This integration between symbolism and nature is essential in bringing the book to life. Using ever lasting images of the sun, trees, and animals as analogies allow the reader to fully visualize the beauty in the ambience of Hurston s novel. These extended metaphors serve the dual purpose of fascinating imagery, while adding to the diverse and dynamic tone of the book. Hurston primarily employed her metaphors through timeless and broad images such as the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In an efficient market, competition among the many intelligent participants leads to a situation where, at any point in time, actual prices of individual securities already reflect the effects of information based both on events that have already occurred and on events which, as of now, the market expects to take place in the future. In other words, in an efficient market at any point in time the actual price of a security will be a good estimate of its intrinsic value. (Fama, 1970) Strong form EMH In its strongest structure, the EMH says a business sector is effective if all data applicable to the estimation of an offer, whether by and large accessible to existing or potential speculators, is rapidly and precisely reflected in the business cost. The above mentioned wall can be in various geometrical shapes. Blasius [1] studied the simplest boundary layer over a flat plate. The boundary layer flow over a moving plate in a viscous fluid has been considered by Klemp and Acrivos [2], Hussaini et al. [3], Fang and Zhang [4] and recently Ishak et al. Others prefer space heaters for the savings they provide by allowing you to heat only the rooms you use. There are many different types of portable heaters, all of which use slightly different methods to warm the space. Which one will work best for you depends on the characteristics of the space you will be heating. You should also take into account how loud the heater is when running and consider safety issues, especially if you have children or pets. The overwhelming majority of space heaters available today are electric. This is because most states have banned unvented combustible space heaters due to carbon monoxide and other gasses. Vented kerosene and gas heaters are available, but are not portable, as they require the installation of a vent from the heater to the outside of the home. Radiant Heaters Infrared Radiant heaters work by warming objects directly adjacent to them. They provide heat quickly but do so in a straight line. Like the sun s rays, infrared heat warms only objects in its direct path and cannot work around obstacles. As a result, infrared heaters work best in open areas free of obstructions. These heaters use very little energy but do emit a soft orange glow, which some feel makes them bothersome in bedrooms. They are also hot to the touch and require caution when used around pets and children. Infrared heaters do run silently, however. If you are sitting in one spot for a length of time, an infrared heater aimed in your direction will be a good choice. Many infrared heaters are now built into wooden cabinets. This makes the heaters more attractive and cooler to the touch. Radiators Radiant heat is also created by portable oil filled radiators. These radiant heaters consist of a series of tubes filled with oil. This oil is warmed and then the heat radiates off of the unit to the surrounding area. The oil in these heaters is warmed but never burned as fuel, so there is no need to refill them or perform other maintenance tasks. In this restaurant I observed elements of folk and popular culture which included the music that was playing there, which was mariachi band music which made the place feel more authentic to Mexico. The music from the mariachi band was a piece of their folk culture they had, because they used violins, trumpets, guitarron a spanish guitar used in most Spanish music, and a vihuela a five stringed guitar with a high pitch. Some of the popular culture that was there was the outfits the servers were wearing which was a plain old t shirt and some black pants, and it was more popular culture because nowadays servers wear a shirt and pants that match what the theme or idea of the restaurant is. The servers outfits I categorized as popular culture because of the fact that servers in many restaurants nowadays wear the same clothing that is casual, making it an element of popular culture. Many people credit the creation of an organization s culture to the head of the organization. Sidney breaks his argument down into eight sections, each one arguing another point as to why poetry is worthy and should not be thought of as sub par literature. His arguments are thorough, leaving no gaps between thoughts, and very persuasive in both content and style. I believe his argument is both successful and thorough, covering everything that has been critiqued about poesy in the ages before this work was written. Sidney opens with the first section called the Exordium in lines 1 50. It is significant to note that it was printed several years after his death, communicating the aristocratic air we get from him, manliness, courtier, advisor, masculine roles that Sidney is hinting at comparing himself to a horse master. Just as schools were segregated in our past, this again would show that segregation equals discrimination. People must understand that every citizen deserves the right to celebrate their diversity. In order to assist in the conversion of the immigrants to a new society, is necessary to provide them with signs, documents, ballots that they can understand. Thus, the main reasons for the Third Crusade was the loss of Jerusalem and the the loss of Crusader castles in Outremer that were the County of Tripoli and the Principality of Antioch The effects of the Third Crusade were the weakening of Monarchies, territorial changes and conflicts in ... • 43. Incineration Essay cineration is the process of the destruction of waste by converting the organic material to carbon dioxide and water vapour by fire leaving only the ash and non combustibles to dispose in the landfill (http://www.saincinerator.com). Ash is the incombustible inorganic residue after the waste has been destructed by means of incineration. Incineration is another method that is used for reduction of waste in the form of burning waste leaving smaller amount of ash. The incinerators can be in the form of oil, gas, coal fire or when burning high BTU waste such as paper, need no auxiliary fuel (http://www.sainincinerator.com). Incineration can also refer as waste treatment technology, which includes the combustion of waste for recovering energy (http://www.wrfound.org). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... MSWI generates residues such as bottom ashes; particulate matter carried over from the furnace and removed from the flue gas without injection of sorbents, and Air Pollution Control (APC) residues. The aim of this study was to assess the characterization of MSWI from facilities with different air pollution control systems. Analysis of traces metals from ash was performed by two different procedures, which differs according to method used. The objective was to obtain by total digestion attack with results obtained by an extractable digestion procedure, emphasizing differences that can arise depending on digestion protocol performed, which often is not well specified in legal or even scientific papers. To analyse total heavy metal (Zn, Pb, As, Cd, Ni, and Cu, approximately 1g per triplicate of each sample was digested using an HNO3 /HF/HCIO4 mixture in teflon flask. In their results high content of CaO has been confirmed by the analysis. In this study two types of incinerator facilities, first generation (mass burn, electrostatic precipitator as air pollution control system) and second generation (RDF, semi dry APC control system have been characterized. • 44. The Power Of Myth By Joseph Campbell Culture is something that influences everyone s individual behaviorisms, both consciously and unconsciously. Everybody has a personal culture, often learned from other groups, which then have their own distinct characteristics. Joseph Campbell was a celebrated American scholar who studied mythology, having popularized the idea of the hero s journey. The Power of Myth is a book based on the six episode documentary Joseph Campbell and the Power of Myth, in which Campbell and interviewer Bill Moyers examine the human world. Both discuss Campbell s thoughts about mythology, and ultimately culture. Moreover, Campbell dedicated his life to studying myth and religion, something that I probably wouldn t choose to do with my time. Another instance where Campbell shared his dissimilar observations of myths is his assertion that [i]f you were not alert to the parallel themes, you perhaps would think they were quite different stories, but they re not. (Campbell 14). Campbell has studied so many myths that he was able to find the universal lessons that humans have learned. Another interpretation is that Campbell has made the generalization that all myths are essentially the same. I believe that while there may be overarching themes found throughout myths, there are still key differences that make each culture s mythology unique. Trying to group everything into a precise category or combining all myths into a single monomyth makes any other possibilities obsolete. For example, both my favorite TV show and book series retell well known fairy tales. Finding new meanings in a story that is otherwise cliché can be eye opening. I think myths and fairy tales alike reflect the variances between cultures and times, which fluctuate, but Campbell concluded that all myths tell the same story. This is yet another disparity between Campbell s views on myth and my own. Campbell s personal values didn t seem to emphasize independence and diversity as much as mine. For instance, Campbell said that marriage is the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. Napoleon s Ideals How have historians tried to evaluate the ultimate goal of Napoleon I, Emperor of the French? With such a variety of perspectives, there is no single theory that can fully answer the breadth of the question. Instead, kaleidoscopes of opinions that span centuries from Napoleon s time to contemporary research give us the best analysis of his ambitions and overall goals. No matter the era, historian s opinions of Napoleon shift between admiring his achievements, in varying contexts of military victories, reorganizing governmental systems, or establishing civil codes, to criticizing his personal lust for power culminating in his assumption of the title of emperor. This argument is not very persuasive because it ignores other aspects of Napoleon s regime, such as his military efforts. In addition to Mansel, Frederik C. Schneid writes about Napoleon s ambition in using his power and genius in creating an empire. Schneid brings forth the militaristic aspect of Napoleon s government and his abilities as a general. For instance, he elaborates: [Napoleon] pursued an imperium sine fine, an empire without end, and his inability to formulate a coherent political system to consolidate his position of European hegemony condemned him to rule over a Europe in constant strife with his regime. He makes the point that Napoleon s desire for glory and sweeping military victories were the cause behind his goal of conquering the continent of Europe. Similar to Mansel s argument, Schneid only considers a singular perspective in his approach, leaving out other crucial variables that effect Napoleon s motivation to achieve his ultimate ... The siege ended when, in the middle of the summer with both Rivers Brian and Cesse dry, the crusaders, led by the notorious Simon de Monfort, destroyed the village s only water source, Saint Rustic well, whose remains can be still seen today. Minerve, the village hovering above two canyons and surrounded by strong defensive walls, was a not to be ignored place during medieval or late medieval warfare and so it participated also in the religious wars of the 16th century when it was a hiding place for Huguenots who were defeated here by the armies of the Marshall Anne de Montmorency. Organelles in Eukaryotic Cells The Nucleus. Nearly all animal cells have a nucleus, with the only exception being the red blood cell. The nucleus has two major functions, which are housing the DNA and controlling the cell s activities. In the centre of the nucleus is the nucleolus. This doesn t have a membrane, but holds itself together. In the nucleolus, ribosomes are created through the mixture of RNA and proteins. These proteins are originally found in the cytoplasm, outside the nucleus, but they travel through the pores in the nuclear envelope, through the chromatin and into the nucleolus. The structure of the nucleolus allows easy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The body has two faces, the cis face which fuses with incoming transport vesicles, and the trans face which excretes the secretory vesicles. The cis face fuses with vesicles coming from the ER effectively from many directions due to its convex shape, whereas the concave trans face can direct the secretory vesicles to their destination. When fusing with the cis face, the transport vesicles release their proteins to be absorbed for modification. Each cisternal layer of the Golgi body holds different enzymes which each modify the passing proteins in separate ways. Between the layers the proteins are moved through the gaps by small vesicles. When a protein has been modified correctly, it leaves the Golgi body via secretory vesicles which then carry the modified proteins to the cell membrane or another organelle. The proteins that are transported to the cell membrane are either excreted from the cell, or absorbed into the membrane to aid with its function. Some of the secretory vesicles which hold hydrolytic enzymes stay within the cytoplasm and function as lysosomes. Lysosomes. Lysosomes are specialized vesicles that are created by the Golgi body. Their role is to digest any worn out, excess or unwanted bodies within the cell. This could include bacteria or viruses as well as mitochondria which are no longer effective. • 48. What´s Vertical Integration When searching for research to analyze and write about, I leaned more towards marketing and sales, which I want to ultimately work in. When I came across this article Moving close to the customers: effects of vertical integration in the Swedish commercial printing industry , I was interested in what vertical integration was and what it meant. I also was caught by the fact this was published using Swedish commercial printing. In this day and age, our country is becoming more and more globalized, and relies on other countries services and goods. I always find it interesting what other countries are doing in terms of business and maybe industries in America can learn from what they have implemented. Starting of reading this article, I was completely lost and wanted to quit. Vertical integration seemed too big of a concept to wrap my head around and the article had so many stats and figures I was going crazy. After dissecting the article parts by part and figuring out what vertical integration meant, the research started to make sense. To start off what the research talks about lets define vertical integrated. According to Adelman, it states that a firm is vertically integrated whenever it transmits from one of its departments to another good or service which could, without major adaptation, be sold in the market. . Ultimately a company is vertically integrated when firms integrates activities in the value chain to produce its own inputs and/or takes care of its own ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 49. Impact Of Technology On Academic Performance CHAPTER ONE THE PROBLEM AND ITS SCOPE Introduction The classroom setting in the old times consisted of teachers writing down their lessons on the board while the students copy them in their notebooks. While this method is still practiced today, most schools now use technology in learning. New methods of teachings are being introduced and applied in various schools in the country. One of the improvements is the use of Powerpoint presentations for visual aids instead of the traditional style of writing on the board or using cartolinas and manila papers. Due to this change, students have also developed the technique of taking pictures or taking notes with the use of their gadgets. This study aims to find out whether the application of ...
