Abdul Shakoor had an ischemic stroke on March 29, 2001 which caused paralysis on one side of his body, difficulty communicating and understanding language, impaired vision, cognitive issues with judgment and memory, and difficulty coordinating daily tasks. Recovering from a stroke is difficult and gradual, requiring support from speech and language therapists, physiotherapists, family, and stroke support groups. The Stroke Action Team works with various organizations across London to support stroke survivors and their families by addressing strategic issues around stroke care and recovery.
