Stand By Me Analysis
Don t judge a book by a cover, or in my case, don t judge a movie by when it was made. When I first
watched the movie Stand by me , I was expecting an old hippie style plot and horrible filming and
acting it was made in 1986 after all. However, I was wrong. Even if there had been bad filming, it still
wouldn t have overshadowed the amazing talent of the young actors and the engaging, coming of age
storyline. The movie starts with an older, wiser version of Gordie Lachance (Richard Dreyfuss)
reminiscing of the good times, in particular the summer of 1959, he had with his childhood friend
Chris Chambers. Sparked by the unforeseen death of Chambers, we are entered into a nostalgic
flashback where the quartet of inseparable friends Gordie (Wil Wheaton), Chris (River Phoenix),
Teddy Duchamp (Corey Feldman) and Vern Tessio (Jerry O Connell) are enjoying their last summer
together before they enter the years of adolescence and middle school. Gordie, Chris and Teddy are
messing around once again in their tree house when ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Friendships grow stronger and unbreakable bonds are formed as the foursome experience life
changing experiences. From fudging on their parents, nearly being hit by a train or swimming in a
leech infested lake, the boys had to survive physical obstacles and also their own mental inner
demons. Gordie is still coming to terms with the loss of his beloved brother, a brother he admired and
who appreciated his growing talent for writing, unlike his parents who believe he was the one who
should have died. Chris comes from a bad family and has lost hope that he ll be able to get out of
Oregon to find a job from the negative perceptions everyone has about him. Teddy is mentally and
physically damaged from a psychotic father who nearly killed him and Vern, is on the chubby side and

Thematic Meaning in City Lights
In order for art to be successful, despite the category of its expression, one thing is necessary; a
connection between the piece and its audience that can transcend time and space. If a song, film,
poem, novel, play or painting possesses the ability to touch audiences of any era or culture, then it is
truly successful. Notable movements of artwork are associated with the time in which they were
produced. For example, rock and roll music is associated with the 1960s and the 1970s; impressionist
painting with the late 1800s; romantic poetry with the late 1700s to early 1800s; film noir with the
1940s to 1950s. Although all of these movements can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Chaplin further illustrates his thematic message through more involved situations than his initial ones
of simple comedic delivery. The millionaire jumps into the water believing that he is committing
suicide, but the noose is on the tramp so the tramp falls in instead. The tramp s encounters with the
flower girl leave her with the wrong impression of him; she believes he is a rich man. During the
boxing match, the tramp believes his coach is the flower girl. The tramp s opponent in the match also
punches the referee in the midst of the chaotic fight, mistaking him for the tramp. The police and
butler wrongly accuse the tramp of burglary, even though the millionaire actually gave the tramp the
money. The increased drama surrounding these situations takes the delivery of the thematic message
that things are not always what they seem to be the next level. The final and most significant delivery
of the meaning of Chaplin s film is given during the last scene. The audience sees that the flower girl
now has her own flower shop, thanks to the kindness of the tramp. She is no longer blind, and now can
truly see the world for what it is, thanks to the operation that the tramp s generosity gave her. When
she sees the tramp getting bullied on the street, she is amused and feels bad for him so she tries to
offer him some change. Although she now has sight, she cannot see him for who he really is; the

Examples Of Chivalry In Today s Society
Chivalry in Today s Society Chivalry: a simple code that in today s society is almost obsolete.
However, society would greatly benefit from chivalrous acts. This nation has forgotten the meaning of
this code that symbolizes honor, bravery, and courtesy. In this constantly changing world, people need
a moral system to live by. If everyone could all agree on a certain way of treating others, the world
would be a better place. Humans lack a common understanding on how to treat others on a daily basis.
People are disrespectful to others without even realizing it, and they behave poorly in all aspects of all
forms of interaction. These same people often do not take the time to listen to others opinions before
making their own and interrupting to share what they think. In fact, only 55 percent of a person s time
each day is solely devoted to listening to others (Lake). But even in a listening situation, not everyone
is getting the message. The ordinary person listens with only 25 percent efficiency (Williams). If
everyone would take more time to listen, and listen with complete attention, perhaps people could
learn to get along better. One other reason that the world has become so disrespectful is because the
people, such as celebrities and public leaders, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Children lie to their parents and their parents lie back to them. In fact, 86 percent of parents lie to their
children regularly (Benjamin). It does not take the kids long to figure out that they are being lied to.
The average child will begin lying at age 2 or 3 (Gaille). This only sets people up to continue lying in
the future. Perhaps that is why so many people lie about who they are to others. For example, 33
percent of people lie on their resumes (Gaille). No wonder they end up working at McDonald s for
$8.25 an hour. A resume is supposed to show who a person truly is so that employers can make a more
informed choice of who to

Women as Authority Figures in One Flew Over The Cuckoo s Nest
We are victims of a matriarchy here my friends... (Harding). A matriarchy is a social order where
women have power. In the novel One Flew over the Cuckoo s Nest the women are portrayed as the
power figures and have the power manipulate, or control the men in the ward, as shown by the
characters of Nurse Ratched, Mrs. Bibbit, and Vera Harding. Nurse Ratched is a former army nurse
who works in the ward, she has manipulates the men in many ways. One way is having the patients
spy on each other making them write things down, they think she would want to hear, or know.
Bromden described Nurse Ratched as having the ability to set the wall clock to whatever speed she

Nurse Ratched chooses to use outside influences to help her control her patients, as is the case with
Billy Bibbit, whose mother is friends with the nurse. Mrs.Bibbit, Billy s mother, and friends with
Nurse Ratched, is another authoritative figure in the novel. Mrs. Bibbit gains her power by preventing
Billy, from becoming an adult. At first Mrs. Bibbit does realize that Billy is an adult and is able to
function in society, When his mother tells him he has plenty of time to accomplish things such as
going to college, and Billy reminds his mother that he is thirty one years old, she replies, Sweetheart,
do I look like the mother of a middle aged man? (Kesey 247). This shows that Billy s mom does not
seem to understand that Billy is an adult that is able to live in the outside world. This Results in him
feeling Insecure and he chooses to remain in the ward. Sure! It s Billy, turned from the screen... If I
had the guts. (168). This takes place after McMurphy realizes that the men are there voluntary, Billy
explains to McMurphy that he could leave at any time if he wanted to but he believes he doesn t have
the guts to go out in society. Unfortunately in the end it is just the fear of his own mother, and Nurse
Ratched s manipulative ways that causes him to take his own life. Another family member who
manipulates her loved one is Vera Harding, whose control over her husband is similar to that of Billy
and his mother. Vera Harding, the wife of Harding,

For the past few years, the use of unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), commonly known as drone, has
grown quickly. Originally, drones were developed for military applications and now it is significantly
important in the technology field and society. There are certain proposals and public interest in using
drones for food and package delivery (Elzweig, 2015). This indicates that drones have diversified
from military use to consumer use, becoming a part of everyday life. However, there are several
concerns associated with implementing delivery drones, this includes organisational structure, safety
and security, privacy and airspace interference (Doa, Gopi, Maione, 2016). This report s objectives
are:
To discuss the use of drones in the future for delivery in New Zealand.
To identify the benefits of using drones.
To address potential concerns associated with using drones.
To discuss how to mitigate these concerns through application of management function, planning.

The Conflict Of The Palestinian Negotiations
The word colonization and encroachment of lands reach a new level when we talk about the Occupied
Palestinian territory. In 1948, with the establishment of the state of Israel more than three quarters of
the Palestinian population were forcibly dispossessed and expelled to become refugees in neighboring
Arab states to make way for the newcomers (Giacaman et al., 2009).
Since then the lives of British Mandate Palestinians kept on becoming worse with ongoing conflicts
and failed attempts of resolutions. The outcomes of the Israeli Palestinian negotiations to peace have
not yet been determined. But what has been seen is that since the eruption of violence in September
2000, Palestinians have suffered from a lack of access to basic services, particularly much needed
medical services and violations of the health related rights, which have also increased considerably
with time (Stefanini Ziv, 2004).
From that time, multiple roadblocks have been established in the West Bank and in the Gaza,
preventing people in these areas from accessing medical care. Physical barriers have been established
around villages, medical personnel have been denied free passage, ambulances were torched with fire,
hospitals have been surrounded by tanks and searched and have been left without medical supplies,
residents have been imprisoned in their homes without basic food items or access to medicines
(Stefanini Ziv, 2004).
This assignment will outline the major health problems in the Occupied

Microtransactions On Gaming Marketing Agency
Microtransactions in Gaming
I. INTRODUCTION
What Are Microtransactions?
In the gaming marketing agency over the past few years, many of the video game publishers have
been pushing for higher revenues and returns from their investments in games. This has been proven
to be the norm from smaller, free to play titles, all the way to the largest game developers on the
market. For many developers, this means more advertisement promotion of their games on the internet
and on television or to try and improve their game to add more content for the buyers. As the case is
for many other developers however, their solution in recent years seems to consist of using the tactic
of microtransactions. As one may assume, this has led to many problems in the video game industry.
Microtransactions are defined as, A very small financial transaction conducted online
(Microtransactions, 2016). Since the term microtransaction is a relatively modern term, there is no true
price range that has been established yet to define it by price. Typically, microtransactions are located
inside of in game shops that require either real money, or some kind of in game currency. For smaller
studios that do not have enough money to promote their game to be able to sell it for a fee and still
become popular, microtransactions are one of their main sources of revenue from the game. By
relying on these transactions as the main source of income however, this tempts many studios to
become greedy and exploit the

reasons. Justras worked closely with three music education professors to develop a community music

Coffman s (2008) NHIMA band members practiced 7 hours per week. The SF 36v2 Health Survey
revealed that participants reported NHIMA benefited them by 74% overall well being, 24% physical
well being, 21% cognitive stimulation, and 20% socialization (see Table 2.2). The differences between
Jutras (2011) NHIMA study and Coffman s (2008) NHIMA study are motivation to learn music, and
practicing instruments daily in preparation of rehearsals, which is standard practice for preparation of
community concerts. Perhaps Coffman s (2008) musicians were more serious in developing their
music competency skills and thereby achieved higher levels of brain activity. Whereas, Jutras (2011)
musicians would fit the definition of health care patients or as Gates (1991) described them as
recreationalists or as Stebbins (1992) described individuals as amateurs, volunteers, hobbyists, and
dabblers. As the authors identified, participants lacked the motivation to play their instruments at
home in preparation for band rehearsals, which are preparatory for music concerts. The results in these
studies suggest the activity and continuity theories to explain older adults

A Brief Note On Copyright And Remix Culture
How to Not Follow Copyright Law:
An Exploratory Essay on Copyright and Remix Culture
As time goes by, the rate at which art changes increases at a seemly exponential rate. Our culture has
more ways than ever to publish and distribute the things we make, and with the rise of the internet we
can reach any audience with a Wi Fi connection. This digital hyper connectivity has led many artists to
create new forms of art, some of which have gone on to start trends and cultures. One of these cultures
that has become a significant part of online media is Remix Culture. The idea of taking someone else s
art and making it your own is embraced and cherished by some, and detested by others. As this genre
of media has grown over the years, the line between what is and isn t a remix has drastically blurred.
Some will spend hours upon hours making a song sound completely different from its original
counterpart, while others will simply chop it up and call it their own. Though laws were once effective
when dealing with copyright infringement, the rate art has grown has significantly surpassed the rate
at which these laws have changed. People are beginning to monetize their remixes in various ways,
creating much controversy surrounding who should be getting paid, or if anyone should get paid at all.
As artists, it is important to know what these laws are exactly, so we can either abide by them or find
our own workarounds.
As soon as a work is created in a tangible, fixed form, it is

year from the industrial treatment of agricultural raw materials. Most of these wastes are used as
animal feed or burned as alternative for removal. However, such wastes usually have a composition
rich in sugars, minerals and proteins, and therefore, they should not be considered wastes but raw
materials for other industrial processes(Mussatto et al., 2012) (2). Using of residues from agro
industrial sources in bio processes has aroused the interest of the scientific community lately.
Ecological issues and concerns aimed to reducing pollution have boosted the search for clean
Technologies to be used in the production of commodities of importance to chemical, energy and food
industries. This idea makes use of alternative materials, requires less energy, and minimizes pollutants
in industrial effluents, as well as being more economically useful due to its reduced costs (Martins et
al., 2011) (1). Agro industrial wastes are at most composed of complex polysaccharides that might
serve as nutrients for microbial growth and production of enzymes, several microorganisms are

Gongche Paper
In most cultures, there are many ways to write and express music. Here in America, there are chant
notations, staff notations, solfege, and many more. China has another form of notation called
Gongche. Gongche is written in traditional Chinese characters that represent the note or part of solfege
that should be played. However, recently there are forms of writing music called Jianpu, which are
numbered notations that represent the note that needs to be played. Jianpu is a simplified version of
Gongche, however, instead of using Chinese characters, numbers are used to represent a solfege. In
standard American staff notation, there are different notes that are placed on a series of five lines that
represent different notes. At the beginning of the line, there are symbols that show ... Show more

In gongche, every character represents a note, which makes up their solfege. To tell how much
strength each note should be played for, there are accents placed on top of the characters, and a tiny
open circle placed under them. The accent on top of the note means that it is weaker than a normal
note, and the open circle means that it is stronger. This is done to assist with the rhythm of the overall
piece. These marks are made for the percussion, instructing them to take the rhythmic lead. In the
simplified, Jianpu notation, the numbers represent the notes position on the solfege. The scales that are
represented here are major and minor. When the dot is placed on top of a number, it means it should
be raised to the higher octave, and underneath means a lower one. In this system, the length of the
note played is shown to the musician by dashes placed underneath the number. This indicates an
equivalent of half and quarter notes. There are also zeroes that can be found on the musical piece, this
means that there is a rest. Similarly to staff notation, the meter is established by the vertical line after a

Canonization
The Catholic Christians belief on Canonization and the Scripture writings have a difference according
to Paul and the letters he wrote. Canonization is a process that is used by the churches to name Saints,
the churches have utilized this since the nineteenth century. This has been done over and over for
several years. It began with the early church, first martyrs then the public claim did the choosing of
these saints; however, this way was thought to be democratic despite the information being distorted
and some of it never even existed. However, some Christians have different views with the attributions

These people were thought to go straight to heaven where they could be with Jesus in the presence of
the Lord, for example these people had the ability to intercede for the living people s sins. They
believed in confessing their sins to other people in the hope of being prayed for and healing. These
people were thought to be powerful and with a direct connection with God. However, the controversy
against this is that there is no scripture in the Bible in support of this point; it is an abomination to pray
to the death. Before God, all believers were equal no one is regarded purer than the other and
worshiping a dead person or praying to them was a cult (George,

Managing an over worked and stressed human resource have become a challenging and ever difficult
task for today s managers. With a view to utilize the available human resource thus minimizing costs
and maximizing profits, today both managers and their subordinates have to coop with work related
stress. This stress if it goes to certain extent without being controlled can affect the person s
family/social life, health, performance etc and changes the employee s whole attitude towards work

Indian Methods of managing Stress
Indian philosophy consisting of Upanishadas, Vedanta, etc, is very helpful in winning stress. Dr. Satish
Chandra Pandey (8m Journal, JIMS April June 1997) has given some valid points on managing stress,
some of which are as follows
1. Develop training programs for executives and other staff members for their total personality
development based on Indian values, so that they can develop their own strategies for coping with
their organizational environment/stressors.
2. Each organization must develop its own management philosophy based on Indian values and
educate its employees about that philosophy to motivate them for achieving excellence in different
areas.
3. Organizations must know that reducing organizational stress is as important as motivating
employees. Both the process is complementary to each other: they are not replacements.

Secret Agent Stereotypes
Definition of CI
CI is the collection of information, internal, external and from competitors, but also from customers,
suppliers, technologies, environments, and potential business to provide early warning and help to
predict the moves of competitors, customers, and governments (Calof and Wright, 2008, p. 723; Gilad,
1996).
Introduction
Competitive Intelligence (CI) comes from shadows of company secret agent (spy) vs. secret agent
stereotypes, but now present day CI experts are legally and ethically collecting, studying, and making
use of information about the abilities, vulnerabilities, and intentions of their competitors, and tracking
developments within the universal competitive environments. CI practices generate value to the
organization. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The massive payoff of practicing competitive Intelligence is that it ll point out weakness which you
have internally due to the strengths of your competitors. The main goal of CI is to provide actionable
intelligence that will provide the organisation with a competitive edge or advantage. Companies that

A New Great Depression Essay
In 2008, the Global Financial Crisis broke out; both the American economy and the economy in the
West suffered a hard blow. However, a big economy system in the East emerged unexpectedly. China
is now able to challenge the America s decades long dominant position in economic area. Started
during the middle of 1990s, China s manufacturing industry developed rapidly that billions of exports
were floating out, and China was given the title of the world s factory (BBC). By the end of 2010,
China with a GDP of $5.8 trillion, surpassed Japan s GDP of $5.48 trillion, became the world s second

Before became as a President, in 1967, Nixon had written in a magazine as a President candidate We
simply cannot afford to leave China outside the family of nations (PBS). The reason Nixon paid so
much attention on China was that he foresaw the US, the USSR, China, Western Europe, and Japan
would become the major world powers. Being the world s most populous country, China s great
potential attracted Nixon to rebuild the connection between the East and the West. The growing
friction between Beijing and Moscow in the beginning of the 1960s urged the USSR withdrew all
their technical supports and industrial projects in China. Nixon saw his chance. He first began to woo
China in February 1969; he sent lots of positive messages towards China through third party countries
such as Pakistan and Romania (PBS). Nixon s hard working paid off by the end of 1970 China
responded. Nixon successfully warmed up the relationship between China and America by sending a
team of Ping Pong players to China to play. This famous political move in US China history is called
Ping Pong diplomacy (PBS). Same year, Nixon sent Kissinger, his National Security Council director,
secretly visited China to arrange a visit for him (PBS). Finally, on Feburary21, 1972, Nixon became
the world s focus: he visited China. However, at that time Chairman Mao was under bad health
condition, the Premier Chou Enlai greeted Nixon at the airport instead. The opening

Emma In Lady Midnight
Emma is the epitome of a brave, strong, warrior like heroine. Her parents were murdered when she
was a child, and since then she has been training to seek revenge on their killer. She is part of an elite
group of people called Shadowhunters. Their job is to fight creatures like demons, vampires, and
faeries by using weapons and sometimes parabatai. A parabatai is a Shadowhunter s partner in battle;
they have a bond stronger than anything else in the world, but they can never fall in love. Emma
Carstairs is a sarcastic character filled with wit and sassy comebacks. She is stubborn and independent
traits not always appreciated by other characters in the novel. Much of the characterization in Lady
Midnight appears through the interactions between characters. Emma s parabatai, Julian, is shown as
kind and compassionate due to the fact that he must take care of his four younger siblings. He is in
love with Emma, but she doesn t realize this. This further characterizes her as someone that s dense

of fairy tale forests, where only monsters lived... Kieran s voice was very different: It sounded like
waves sliding up on the shore. Like warm water under pale light. It was seductive, with an edge of
cold (page 124). In this section of the book, two new characters had just been introduced. The author
chose to use imagery in the forms of not only sight, but also hearing in order to build a more solid
picture of the characters. Both of them are faeries; the first, named Iarlath, looks similar to a plant,
with dark green skin, yellow owl like eyes, and clawed hands. Kieran looks like a human, but has one
black eye and one silver eye. In order to describe both of these characters well, the author chose to use
intense imagery, incorporating smell, hearing, and

Semantic Search Based On Web Search Essay
The upcoming section will address the some of the architectural concepts put forth by the scholars in
semantic search and the prime concern of the paper; how the semantic searching process will help in
augmenting the result of web search. Further, the paper will also put light on a proposal to build a
semantic search based on previous keyword search engine but with the added capability of Natural
Language Processing.
3. SEMANTIC SEARCH TECHNIQUES
This section describes different semantic methodologies being forwarded by the scholars. Currently,
various types of search engines are being deployed to access the information required. Each search
engine has its own features and uses different algorithms to index, rank and present web documents.
Hence the result put forth on information retrieval by the search engines are different from one
another. And there is not a definite and unique single technology or architecture that leads to a logical
and meaningful search engine. In fact there can be various ways to achieve this.
G. Madhu, Dr. A. Govardhan, and Dr. TV Rajinikanth in their survey of intelligent semantic web
search engines have addressed the two types of research problems in creating semantic search engine.
The first problem of matching a query to the concerned documents with related information in an
intelligent and meaningful way can be solved with semantic annotations to produce intelligent and
meaningful information by using query interface mechanism and

Whale Rider Gender Roles
Exposure to cultural practices and clearly defined gender roles profoundly influences one s identity.
The movie Whale Rider directed by Niki Caro represents a Maori culture struggling to adapt to the
modern world changes in relation to gender. The film follows the harrowing story of Pai, a young
female grown up around the Maori culture, she is denied opportunities of traditions and her birth rite
of being leader due to her culture s outdated ideas of the female gender. Koro s strong belief of
keeping a sexist archaic tradition is criticised by Caro as Pai, and the community suffer the
consequences. Pai, the protagonist of the film, struggles against the gender roles defined by her Maori
culture. Koro, her grandfather and chief of the community, firmly believes that a male descendant is
the only hope for the culture s survival; however, despite this Pai reveals herself to be a naturally
capable and competent leader. At the first Maori training session, a tracking shot follows Pai as she
leads the traditional Maori chant, evoking a powerful an image of strength and determination. She
demonstrates respect and understanding of the cultural customs. The boys follow in the background,

Primary Sources In O Brien s The Things They Carried
According to the Library of Illinois, primary sources of information are those that provide first hand
accounts of the events, practices, or conditions you are researching. There is no portion about
reliability or the significance of truth within the explanation of a primary historical source. O Brien s
recollection of his first hand experience in the Vietnam war is a good primary source because
highlights the collective consciousness of America during the war, the collective memory of the
soldiers who fought, and the emotional things they had to carry with them through the remainder of
their lives.
O Brien fought in the war and named his fictional character after himself. It is the truth of his real life
juxtaposed to the truth in his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In any war story, but especially a true one, it s difficult to separate what happened from what seemed
to happen....The angles of vision are skewed (71). What O Brien thought seemed to have happened
therefore becomes his truth.
All primary sources are subjective; they are based on the source s recollection and how it is
remembered in their own memory. The importance of storytelling is one of the main premises in the
Things They Carried. Telling a story is an illustration of memory, and memory is prejudice. By telling
stories, you objectify your own experience. You separate it from yourself. You pin down certain truths
(158). Each soldier is going to have different memories, but most of their experiences are so similar
they seem to form a universal truth and a collective memory of all their stories.
O Brien s unification of fact and fiction is to illustrate the idea in which the real accuracy of a war
story is less significant than storytelling. The subjective truth about what the war meant and what it
did to change the soldiers is more meaningful than the technical details of the

Walt Disney Company Financial Statement
The Walt Disney Company is located in Burbank, California founded in October of 1923 (Disney,
2016). The company is vastly larger today than it was back then in 1923. Today the company does
business in more than 40 countries and prides its self on the following five major avenues, as the
company likes to put it, of business media networks, parks and resorts, studio entertainment, consumer
products, and interactive media (Disney, 2016).
Impressively the Walt Disney Company s media networks span two divisions, the Disney channel
combined with the ABC Television Group and ESPN Incorporated (Disney, 2016). As well as the Walt
Disney Company s digital broadcasts they also dip into cable, radio, and publishing. The Walt Disney
Company has over eleven different types of parks and resorts with locations all over the world

entertainment which they have been perfecting for over ninety years with such cartoons figures as

Eating Healthy on a Budget

store and buy healthy meals and snacks. Most of us are trying to save money any way we can right
now. As living on a budget becomes more important, it is helpful to look at how to stretch your food

Eat Well, Be Well Eating the required five servings a day of fruits and vegetables and cutting down on
saturated fat and sugar is proven to help your health.
Can you imagine the vicious cycle created for the American poor? One of the endemic plagues of
poverty, poor nutrition, has been further compounded by the fact that the less money you have, the
less able you ll be to buy any truly nutritious foods. Dr. Adam Drewnowski, director of the center for
public health nutrition at the University of Washington, reveals the very real daily challenge those on a
tight budget face: If you have $3 to feed yourself, your choices gravitate toward foods which give you
the most calories per dollar, not only are the empty calories cheaper, but the healthy foods are
becoming more and more expensive. Vegetables and fruits are rapidly becoming luxury goods. (Dr.
Drewnowski).
Older people are most likely to improve their eating habits, but nutrition is important for people of all
ages, says Walter Willet, M.D., chairman of the nutrition department at the Harvard School of Public
Health. We know that when people have health problems or their friends become ill, these are strong
motivators of change, the more serious the health condition, the more serious the change. We d rather
have people make changes early and prevent health problems in the first place. (Willet).

  • 2. Stand By Me Analysis Don t judge a book by a cover, or in my case, don t judge a movie by when it was made. When I first watched the movie Stand by me , I was expecting an old hippie style plot and horrible filming and acting it was made in 1986 after all. However, I was wrong. Even if there had been bad filming, it still wouldn t have overshadowed the amazing talent of the young actors and the engaging, coming of age storyline. The movie starts with an older, wiser version of Gordie Lachance (Richard Dreyfuss) reminiscing of the good times, in particular the summer of 1959, he had with his childhood friend Chris Chambers. Sparked by the unforeseen death of Chambers, we are entered into a nostalgic flashback where the quartet of inseparable friends Gordie (Wil Wheaton), Chris (River Phoenix), Teddy Duchamp (Corey Feldman) and Vern Tessio (Jerry O Connell) are enjoying their last summer together before they enter the years of adolescence and middle school. Gordie, Chris and Teddy are messing around once again in their tree house when ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Friendships grow stronger and unbreakable bonds are formed as the foursome experience life changing experiences. From fudging on their parents, nearly being hit by a train or swimming in a leech infested lake, the boys had to survive physical obstacles and also their own mental inner demons. Gordie is still coming to terms with the loss of his beloved brother, a brother he admired and who appreciated his growing talent for writing, unlike his parents who believe he was the one who should have died. Chris comes from a bad family and has lost hope that he ll be able to get out of Oregon to find a job from the negative perceptions everyone has about him. Teddy is mentally and physically damaged from a psychotic father who nearly killed him and Vern, is on the chubby side and is slow both physically and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. City Lights Natalie Dougherty ENGL 102 013 Dr. Leitch Feb. 18, 2009 Thematic Meaning in City Lights In order for art to be successful, despite the category of its expression, one thing is necessary; a connection between the piece and its audience that can transcend time and space. If a song, film, poem, novel, play or painting possesses the ability to touch audiences of any era or culture, then it is truly successful. Notable movements of artwork are associated with the time in which they were produced. For example, rock and roll music is associated with the 1960s and the 1970s; impressionist painting with the late 1800s; romantic poetry with the late 1700s to early 1800s; film noir with the 1940s to 1950s. Although all of these movements can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Chaplin further illustrates his thematic message through more involved situations than his initial ones of simple comedic delivery. The millionaire jumps into the water believing that he is committing suicide, but the noose is on the tramp so the tramp falls in instead. The tramp s encounters with the flower girl leave her with the wrong impression of him; she believes he is a rich man. During the boxing match, the tramp believes his coach is the flower girl. The tramp s opponent in the match also punches the referee in the midst of the chaotic fight, mistaking him for the tramp. The police and butler wrongly accuse the tramp of burglary, even though the millionaire actually gave the tramp the money. The increased drama surrounding these situations takes the delivery of the thematic message that things are not always what they seem to be the next level. The final and most significant delivery of the meaning of Chaplin s film is given during the last scene. The audience sees that the flower girl now has her own flower shop, thanks to the kindness of the tramp. She is no longer blind, and now can truly see the world for what it is, thanks to the operation that the tramp s generosity gave her. When she sees the tramp getting bullied on the street, she is amused and feels bad for him so she tries to offer him some change. Although she now has sight, she cannot see him for who he really is; the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Examples Of Chivalry In Today s Society Chivalry in Today s Society Chivalry: a simple code that in today s society is almost obsolete. However, society would greatly benefit from chivalrous acts. This nation has forgotten the meaning of this code that symbolizes honor, bravery, and courtesy. In this constantly changing world, people need a moral system to live by. If everyone could all agree on a certain way of treating others, the world would be a better place. Humans lack a common understanding on how to treat others on a daily basis. People are disrespectful to others without even realizing it, and they behave poorly in all aspects of all forms of interaction. These same people often do not take the time to listen to others opinions before making their own and interrupting to share what they think. In fact, only 55 percent of a person s time each day is solely devoted to listening to others (Lake). But even in a listening situation, not everyone is getting the message. The ordinary person listens with only 25 percent efficiency (Williams). If everyone would take more time to listen, and listen with complete attention, perhaps people could learn to get along better. One other reason that the world has become so disrespectful is because the people, such as celebrities and public leaders, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Children lie to their parents and their parents lie back to them. In fact, 86 percent of parents lie to their children regularly (Benjamin). It does not take the kids long to figure out that they are being lied to. The average child will begin lying at age 2 or 3 (Gaille). This only sets people up to continue lying in the future. Perhaps that is why so many people lie about who they are to others. For example, 33 percent of people lie on their resumes (Gaille). No wonder they end up working at McDonald s for $8.25 an hour. In the novel One Flew over the Cuckoo s Nest the women are portrayed as the power figures and have the power manipulate, or control the men in the ward, as shown by the characters of Nurse Ratched, Mrs. Bibbit, and Vera Harding. Nurse Ratched is a former army nurse who works in the ward, she has manipulates the men in many ways. (Kesey 247). This shows that Billy s mom does not seem to understand that Billy is an adult that is able to live in the outside world. This Results in him feeling Insecure and he chooses to remain in the ward. Sure! It s Billy, turned from the screen... If I had the guts. (168). • 9. The Conflict Of The Palestinian Negotiations The word colonization and encroachment of lands reach a new level when we talk about the Occupied Palestinian territory. In 1948, with the establishment of the state of Israel more than three quarters of the Palestinian population were forcibly dispossessed and expelled to become refugees in neighboring Arab states to make way for the newcomers (Giacaman et al., 2009). Since then the lives of British Mandate Palestinians kept on becoming worse with ongoing conflicts and failed attempts of resolutions. The outcomes of the Israeli Palestinian negotiations to peace have not yet been determined. But what has been seen is that since the eruption of violence in September 2000, Palestinians have suffered from a lack of access to basic services, particularly much needed medical services and violations of the health related rights, which have also increased considerably with time (Stefanini Ziv, 2004). From that time, multiple roadblocks have been established in the West Bank and in the Gaza, preventing people in these areas from accessing medical care. Physical barriers have been established around villages, medical personnel have been denied free passage, ambulances were torched with fire, hospitals have been surrounded by tanks and searched and have been left without medical supplies, residents have been imprisoned in their homes without basic food items or access to medicines (Stefanini Ziv, 2004). • 10. Microtransactions On Gaming Marketing Agency Microtransactions in Gaming I. INTRODUCTION What Are Microtransactions? In the gaming marketing agency over the past few years, many of the video game publishers have been pushing for higher revenues and returns from their investments in games. This has been proven to be the norm from smaller, free to play titles, all the way to the largest game developers on the market. For many developers, this means more advertisement promotion of their games on the internet and on television or to try and improve their game to add more content for the buyers. As the case is for many other developers however, their solution in recent years seems to consist of using the tactic of microtransactions. As one may assume, this has led to many problems in the video game industry. Microtransactions are defined as, A very small financial transaction conducted online (Microtransactions, 2016). Since the term microtransaction is a relatively modern term, there is no true price range that has been established yet to define it by price. Typically, microtransactions are located inside of in game shops that require either real money, or some kind of in game currency. For smaller studios that do not have enough money to promote their game to be able to sell it for a fee and still become popular, microtransactions are one of their main sources of revenue from the game. The SF 36v2 Health Survey revealed that participants reported NHIMA benefited them by 74% overall well being, 24% physical well being, 21% cognitive stimulation, and 20% socialization (see Table 2.2). The differences between Jutras (2011) NHIMA study and Coffman s (2008) NHIMA study are motivation to learn music, and practicing instruments daily in preparation of rehearsals, which is standard practice for preparation of community concerts. Perhaps Coffman s (2008) musicians were more serious in developing their music competency skills and thereby achieved higher levels of brain activity. Our culture has more ways than ever to publish and distribute the things we make, and with the rise of the internet we can reach any audience with a Wi Fi connection. This digital hyper connectivity has led many artists to create new forms of art, some of which have gone on to start trends and cultures. One of these cultures that has become a significant part of online media is Remix Culture. The idea of taking someone else s art and making it your own is embraced and cherished by some, and detested by others. As this genre of media has grown over the years, the line between what is and isn t a remix has drastically blurred. Some will spend hours upon hours making a song sound completely different from its original counterpart, while others will simply chop it up and call it their own. Though laws were once effective when dealing with copyright infringement, the rate art has grown has significantly surpassed the rate at which these laws have changed. People are beginning to monetize their remixes in various ways, creating much controversy surrounding who should be getting paid, or if anyone should get paid at all. The major components of these remains are cellulose, lignin and pectin. These materials have paid more interest as an alternative feedstock and energy source, since they are abundantly obtainable. Large quantities of wastes are produced every year from the industrial treatment of agricultural raw materials. Most of these wastes are used as animal feed or burned as alternative for removal. However, such wastes usually have a composition rich in sugars, minerals and proteins, and therefore, they should not be considered wastes but raw materials for other industrial processes(Mussatto et al., 2012) (2). Using of residues from agro industrial sources in bio processes has aroused the interest of the scientific community lately. Ecological issues and concerns aimed to reducing pollution have boosted the search for clean Technologies to be used in the production of commodities of importance to chemical, energy and food industries. This idea makes use of alternative materials, requires less energy, and minimizes pollutants in industrial effluents, as well as being more economically useful due to its reduced costs (Martins et al., 2011) (1). China has another form of notation called Gongche. Gongche is written in traditional Chinese characters that represent the note or part of solfege that should be played. However, recently there are forms of writing music called Jianpu, which are numbered notations that represent the note that needs to be played. Jianpu is a simplified version of Gongche, however, instead of using Chinese characters, numbers are used to represent a solfege. In standard American staff notation, there are different notes that are placed on a series of five lines that represent different notes. At the beginning of the line, there are symbols that show ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In gongche, every character represents a note, which makes up their solfege. To tell how much strength each note should be played for, there are accents placed on top of the characters, and a tiny open circle placed under them. The accent on top of the note means that it is weaker than a normal note, and the open circle means that it is stronger. This is done to assist with the rhythm of the overall piece. These marks are made for the percussion, instructing them to take the rhythmic lead. In the simplified, Jianpu notation, the numbers represent the notes position on the solfege. The scales that are represented here are major and minor. When the dot is placed on top of a number, it means it should be raised to the higher octave, and underneath means a lower one. In this system, the length of the note played is shown to the musician by dashes placed underneath the number. This indicates an equivalent of half and quarter notes. There are also zeroes that can be found on the musical piece, this means that there is a rest. Similarly to staff notation, the meter is established by the vertical line after a certain number of ...
