The Perception Of Mortality In Albert Camus s The Stranger
Mortality is a concept that can shadow a person s philosophy on life, and heavily influences the
behaviors and motivations of literary characters. Human beings question mortality and what it
means in alignment to the purpose and significance of living. Many of the character in the catalog
of our reading this semester have self made philosophies on mortality that manifest in the thought
processes of characters and direction their stories and lives take. The way that characters
comprehend mortality proves itself to be a major influence on the behaviors and motivations that
are integral to these novels. You see mortality through the lens of chance, existentialism, religion,
violence, even as the catalyst for appreciating life. The interpretations of mortality are often shaped
by the experiences we go through, and this holds true in complicated, simple, and unique texts. In
Albert Camus The Stranger, Meursault believes that life is meaningless in the face of death; it Is
assured that every human will die, so the choices we make in this lifetime have little relevance or
meaning. This theory that one life was as good as another (Camus, 22) governs much of this novel.
The first lines introduce the passing of Meursault s mother, immediately informing the reader of the
apathy he shows where most people would react with grief and reflect on the sadness of the
situation, Meursault reacts indifferently with That doesn t mean anything (Camus, 1). This is not a
direct reflection

What Is Tony s Identity In Swimming Up Mainstream
Jawed Atahi S3544141
Swimming Upstream directed by Russell Mulcahy portrays a story about a young man who loves
to swim and tries to go to Olympic and to be an Australian Champion. The film illustrates Tony s
journey from childhood to an adult. Throughout the film Tony s journey is being focused in
achieving his fathers attention and love. On another level the film depicts a story about a father who
haven t achieved his own dream but to uses his sons to accomplish his dream that he never reached.
Russel shows how an alcoholic father is dominating a family. Russel also shows how the film can
be seen as an exploration of Australian masculinity.
Historical Background
The film shades a bleak picture of the Australian society back in the 1950s. ... Show more content

In the other hand his father uses to his brother John to make him better then Tony and to compete
with him. Harold gave John fake praise that ended him in a downfall. Dora is being seen as a
wife who believes his family comes before her own well being and is always there to support their
children s when they are under torture of their father.
Harold Junior was shown similar like his father. He was seen a macho bullying son. Harold saw
him as personifying what a man seen like. Junior uses his power on Tony and slams the piano lid
on Tony s fingers while he was playing the piano for his mother.
Tony is impoverished due to the severe alcoholism of his father; however, he avoids a seemingly
inevitable crisis, overcoming what he describes as insurmountable odds as he manages to escape.
His own brother, whom Tony identifies as his closest friend, as he trains on the opposing team
ultimately competing against Tony in the event, destroys the notion of mateship . The film leaves
the viewer subtly depressed as they have witnessed Tony s family falling apart.

In order to appease the Lord of Gods Indra (Amitabh Bachchan), custodian of rain, a grand fire
sacrifice is being conducted at the palace under the guidance of the Chief Priest, Paravasu
(Jackie Shroff). As this sacrifice draws to its close, our story begins. Paravasu is the elder son of the
great sage Raibhya (Mohan Agashe). For 7 years he has watched over the holy fire, forsaking his
wife, family and every earthly pleasure. Paravasu s young brother Arvasu (Milind Soman) is in love
with a tribal girl, Nittilai (Sonali Kulkarni). Arvasu prepares to marry outside his Brahmin caste
but for this, according to the tribal custom, he has to present himself before Nittilai s village
elders. Paravasu s cousin and bitter rival Yavakri (Nagarjuna) has just returned triumphant after
10 years of practicing austerities in the jungle, with the gift of universal knowledge from the

Penn State and the Jerry Sandusky child sexual molestation case, has been one of the biggest

Analyzing Marielle Heller s Diary Of A Teenage Girl
I had sex today. Holy shit! So is the sentence that begins Diary of a Teenage Girl, Marielle Heller
s film adaptation of Phoebe Gloekner s eponymous graphic novel. We re introduced to our 15
year old heroine Minnie Goetze(Bel Powley) from the film s first shot, as the camera closes in
her overly contented face, dreamy eyes, hipster esque t shirt (Micky Rat), and then tracks her is
some really soothing slow mo as she walks through a park lined with a group of 70s era free
lovers (yes, there is a topless chick). Less than fifteen minutes later, however, when we find out
how Minnie actually lost her virginity, it comes off as quite a shock, yet it doesn t diminish the
adolescent sweetness that carries this scene.

The film placates animated illustrations into the shots, usually when Minnie is coming across a

American Splendor, and to arguably better effect), it s often quite beautiful and poignant to the

Osamu Tresemme Research Paper
Dwight Howard once stated; Today is a new day. Even if you were wrong yesterday, you can get it
right today. In life, one must take a glimpse of the world and do something that causes change. Even
though it may take time for creativity to reach you, you can still influence the world to make an
adjustment. Osamu Tezukawas a mangaartist who lived from 1928 1989. He was born in
Toyonaka, Japan ( Osamu Tezuka, 2010). Osamu Tezuka was known as The Father of Anime
and the
God of Manga. Although he did not invent manga or Japanese comics, he was able to show his
style with the United States, causing manga and anime to become popular. He created over
150,000 pages of manga and over 500 episodes of anime. Osamu s drawing style contributed to
making anime and manga successful all over the world.
Osamu Tezuka was known as the Father of Manga and The God of Anime. Although he did not
invent manga or Japanese comics, he developed a new style for them. He created the manga,
Astro Boy in 1951, which became an animated television series in the early 1960s. Later it
evolved into a western animated film, digital download, and a puppet show. In Japan, Astro Boy is

founder of Studio Ghibli) and Akira Toriyama have cited Tezuka as an inspiration of some of
their works. Even after Osamu s death in 1989, some places in Japan still commemorate him. In
the city of Takarazuka, they opened a museum in his memory in 1994. Stamps were made in honor

Bishop T. D. Jakes And Elevation Church s Steven Furtick
Interview Reflection In class, we viewed a discussion between bishop T.D. Jakes and Elevation
Church s Steven Furtick. Jakes recently released a book by the title of Soar. This book gives
insights into business and success through the lense of a Christian perspective. Many things he
said were great takeaways; but one particular topic I would like to reflect on is the idea of asking
Godfor things. We find ourselves asking God for tables. God doesn t make tables, He makes
trees. Sometimes we want something super specific and nice without doing anything ourselves. It
is hard to draw the line between how much free will we have, because of the fact that God is all
knowing and all powerful. However, we should remember, as Christians, that God

Common Sense And The Crisis Paper By Thomas Paine
In Thomas Paine s pamphlet, Common Sense, he explains that the British government has broken
its contract with the American people by quartering their troops in the Americans homes and by
unjustly raising taxes, therefore requiring that the colonies secede from Britain. On the other hand,
Paine s The Crisis Papers serve to boost the morale of George Washington s Continental Army by
using dramatic and emotive language. Paine s differing tones in Common Sense and The Crisis
Paper is a direct reflection of their respective audiences: the former utilizes both pathos and logos
to influence all Americans, while the latter primarily uses pathos to affect the revolutionary forces.
Common Sense and The Crisis Papers share an overlying theme of monarchy, especially Britain s,
being an unnecessary evil that must be removed from society. In both works, Paine portrays England
s King George III as the reason for all the colonies struggles, falsely claiming that the British had
unrightfully raised taxes and that he had no intention of restoring the relationship between the
colonies and their mother country as there was an ever growing number of British soldiers... Show

In Common Sense, the Revolutionary War had not officially begun, and he attempts to convince the
entire nation that secession from Britain is their only logical option. The title, Common Sense,
displays this especially. It implies that anyone with common sense should grasp the necessity of
America s separation from Britain, as the British had made no effort to reconcile with the colonies.
Pain, in contrast, wrote The Crisis Papers after the war began, so his focus was to convince the
people that the war must continue, regardless of their initial defeats and the difficulties that the war

his best friend Xavier Bird are Cree soldiers fighting as snipers in World World One. Elijah
becomes corrupted by the war, which leads to his own death by the end of the book. The war
transforms Elijah into a person that Xavier no longer recognizes. He becomes insane. His
transformation was due to the abuse of morphine, loss of his identity and his endless fame in the
war. These are just some points that contribute to Elijah s mentality. The transformation of Elijah to

In the beginning, Eliah wanted to fit into the army. His English was very well spoken but he
decided to adapt a British accent among the other soldiers. His second step was when he went
against his traditional Cree way. During the raid, Xavier and Elijah were sent as part of a
raiding party to scout out the large craters in No Man s land. They would lob grenades over the
German trenches, killing the people inside. When they returned from the raid, Corporal
Thompson asked how the last days were and Elijah responded with, It s in my blood, (75). Elijah
was never taught to love the death of others. He embraced the concepts of war and killing himself
and in his process, it had changed him into a person that only cares about his reputation as a
deadly sniper. Therefore, Elijah has gone insane in the war because of his lack of identity. Finally,
the transformation of Elijah to become insane is due to his endless fame in the war. Others in the
unit started to treat Elijah differently (100). Xavier is always with Elijah but he never gets the same
attention that Elijah gets. He remains unknown even though he was the one who taught Elijah how

Identifying Communication Styles As A Training Professional
Identifying Communication Styles
As a training professional, you need to be able to differentiate effective and ineffective
communication styles, and understand that their style of communication may often conflict with
the way messages are interpreted. By understanding different communication styles, we can help
our students begin to understand how to separate the message from the communication style of the
person with whom they are communicating and to appropriately respond to the content of the
message.
Examples would be a supervisor saying to a subordinate in loud and angry tone of voice ...can t
you do anything right? (aggressive style) or a shop clerk rolling her eyes back as she tells the
customer rummaging through her purse take your time, I m not busy at all (passive aggressive style).
Our communication skills are developed based upon our education, attitudes, and preconceived
notions. The good news is that communication styles can be changed with effort and the right
attitude.
No matter your style, effective communication always includes positive feedback. Constructive
comments help those you are speaking with to feel good about themselves, to feel more
comfortable and confident trying new things, to grow, to be heard and to be taken seriously. Critical
and judgmental comments will inhibit growth and learning. For example:

Military Values Essay
As a healthcare professional, I have never had a true battle with values and beliefs until my first
deployment. When I think of values, I think of my strong attitude towards my personal beliefs.
Several years ago, I was deployed as a medic to Bagram Air Base in Afghanistan. This was the
most challenging test I have faced in my entire military career. While deployed; ethics, beliefs,
and values were the big objectives for me. I was faced with caring for patients that I believed
were the enemies of the U.S and not our allies. I spent days and nights piecing together members
of our U.S military forces and to care for those who I thought were enemies not only bothered me,
but put me in a position to where I no longer wanted to participate in healthcare.

Cleaning Products And Its Effects On Our Environment
There are concerns over the cleaning products we use in our homes, many of these products we use
contain harsh chemicals that can damage, ultimately in addition hurt our environment. Fortunately
there are many companies that are taking note of this, specially taking the concerns from people in
our communities to create products that are more earth friendly . Another topic that should be
included when writing about sustainable cleaning productsis biodegradability in the materials we
use, as well as the packaging. This is important as not only harsh chemicals harm our environment
with their toxic waste, in addition to we also end up producing pollutionas a result of using
packaging that is not biodegradable.
We all use cleaning products in our home, many that contain harsh chemicals that flow into our
oceans. There are several companies that make green products for our home many of which will
claim to be non toxic; some of these companies are, NatureClean, Ecover, Earth Friendly, Method,
Mrs. Meyers, and Seventh Generation. Most of these products are biodegradable, provided with
the fact that they are made with natural ingredients. As well as being recyclable after using the
product, adding also that they are free from chemicals such as chlorine, bleach, as well as ammonia.
These companies are helping make a change not only in our homes also in our environment. In

Among these riders were Nathan Monroe and Benjamin Tidd, who rode their horses northward

the idea of Revere riding his own horse. Fischer tackles two different beliefs that come from
Longfellow s poem Paul Revere s Ride. The first belief is the two lanterns hanging in the steeple
window of the Old North Church, the tallest building in Boston at the time, were a sign for Revere.
According to Fischer, Paul Revere recruited two of his friends, Robert Newman and John Pulling,
to go and hang the lanterns in the Old North Church while Revere headed home to get some of his
supplies. Newman and Pulling lit the two lanterns to warn the Whigs in Charlestown, not Revere,

Although there are times where Mercutio mocks Romeo s love, Mercutio is still incredibly

fellow that is partaking in an unrequited love. Even though Mercutio is not the best at showing
sympathy, like his friend Benvolio, Mercutio still wishes to try and cheer up Romeo. The
friends first idea is to take Romeo to a Capulet party, hoping the energetic atmosphere will
improve his mood. On the way there, Romeo states that he doesn t feel like dancing, which leads
to Mercutio saying, in all seriousness, Nay, gentle Romeo, we must have you dance (1.4 13).
Mercutio really is concerned about Romeo s well being and wants him to dance and enjoy the
party. The discussion continues with Romeo saying his shoes are made of lead due to his
sorrowful love, but Mercutio retorts that, You are a lover; borrow Cupid s wings, And soar with
them above a common bound (1.4 17 18). At this point, Mercutio is looking for anything that can
cheer Romeo up, which can be difficult for Mercutio, seeing that they often have rather different
opinion of love. Much later into this tale, Tybalt, one of the enemy family s members, wishes to

Social Norms In The Adventures Of Peregrine Pickle
In the excerpt from The Adventures of Peregrine Pickle , Smollett does an excellent job conveying
the social norms of 1751. The passage is driven by mockery and disrespect, yet neither man will let
the tension ruin their reputation. While both men show signs of anger and disrespect, neither one
directly insults the other. As Pickle is confronted about the nature of his and Emilia, he becomes
angry. Yet, Gauntlet had no intentions of offending him. As their conversation continues, the
tensions rise and both men start to let their emotions control them. The tone of the passage
changes immediately from curiosity, to anger, as Gauntlet expresses to Pickle I should know the
nature of it , this is where everything starts to build. Gauntlet s tone throughout the passage is
almost one of irritation, he seems as if he is irritated by the way Pickle responded to him. Pickle
immediately comes off snooty and arrogant as if he owes nothing to Gauntlet. The narrator remains
calm and relaxed throughout and does not seem surprised when Gauntlet challenges Pickle to a

Paper One: People of color
Why do people think just by passing laws that the issues are resolved? Lauryn Hill is an African
American legend who was born in South Orange, New Jersey. She is famous for her wonderful
music and her marvelous poems. Ms. Hill is very multi talented, due to her singing, writing, and
guitar skills. Ms. Hill wrote one of her famous poems called Mystery of Iniquity. Her poem
Mystery of Iniquity was about her critique of the criminology of criminal justice system. The
poem Mystery of Iniquity was written May 7, 2008, and made a huge effect of African Americans.
During the 2008 era black people were moving on up toward victory because we had our first
African American president Barack Obama.
A reoccurring theme is the idea of iniquity. Iniquity is defied as a lack of fairness or justice. Rosa

an educated black woman to a white man on a public bus. She was treated with an unfair lack of
justice. People of color have been discriminated all of their lives due to the fact that they are

Essay on Achilles as the Hero of Homer’s Iliad
Achilles as the Hero of Homer s Iliad
When Homer lived, the stature of a hero was measured by the yardstick of fighting ability. In
Homer s Iliad, the character of Achilles represents the epitome of the Greek heroic code . Only
Achilles fights for pure heroics, while the characters of Diomedes and Hector provide good
contrasts.
Prowess on the battlefield was ranked supreme, high above any considerations of morality (Martin
26). Nestor, for example, tells Agamemnon and Achilles that he has known much better men than
them meaning men who are better at fighting. Achilles refuses Lycaon clemency because Patroclus.
who is dead. was a much better man than he is by far i.e. a much better fighter. Achilles urges

Diomedes suggests to Sthenelus that they should attack Aeneas with the hope of covering
ourselves in glory : they want to eclipse all of their companions in arms.
This desire is more apparent in Achilles than in anyone else. He will not let even Patroclus. his
loved friend. diminish his glory. He warns Patroclus not to be too successful while wearing his
armour. In the York Notes is a useful description of how Achilles motivation for fighting is a
pure and simple embodiment of the heroic code. In all of the other heroes it is complicated or
diminished by their characters in some way: in Agamemnon , for example, it is inseparably
linked to a desire for revenge and to reclaim what is his: in Diomedes it is moderated and
restrained: in Odysseus and Nestor it is amenable to practical and political considerations: in Aias
it is largely unconscious to the extent that it is comic brute force: in Paris it is set aside for a
desire for pleasure: and in Hector it is complicated by the needs of others.
Thus Achilles is the only character with a great love of battle and glory. He is just about the only

How is Beowulf an Epic Hero
Every epic hero possesses certain heroic characteristics. The epic poem Beowulf describes the
most heroic man of the Anglo Saxon times. Beowulf is the hero. He shows that he is a great man
by always putting other things before his own needs. He is important and needed by his people
and is known by many as a strong, courageous and a helpful person. He shows all of the qualities
and traits that a true heropossesses.
Beowulf, like other epic heroes, possesses the following heroic qualities: epic heroes are
superhuman types of beings. They show great bravery, intelligence, strength and resourcefulness.
They have a strong admiration for the values of their society. They are dominant male figures and

This shows Beowulf s strength, courage and fearlessness. Through this it is evident that he possess
courageous traits.
Beowulf s strength is exemplified many times in the story. Beowulf was said to have the
strength of thirty men in his mighty handgrip. He fought in numerous battles and returned
victorious from all but his last. In his argument with Unferth, Beowulf explains the reason he
lost a swimming match with his opponent Brecca. Not only had Beowulf been swimming for
seven nights, he had also stopped to kill nine sea creatures in the depths of the ocean. Beowulf is
also strong enough to kill the monster Grendel with his bare hands by ripping off his arm. When
Beowulf is fighting Grendel s mother, he is able to slay her by slashing the monster s neck with
a giant sword that can only be lifted by a person as strong as Beowulf. When he chops off her
head, he carries it from the ocean with no difficulty, but it takes four men to lift and carry it back
to Heorot. This strength is a key trait of Beowulf s heroism.
Another heroic trait of Beowulf is his ability to put his people s welfare before his own. Beowulf
s uncle is king of the Geats so he is sent to help kill Grendel. His actions toward Grendel show that
he is willing to help others. In an epic it is usually found that the hero often determines the fate of a
nation or group of people. He uses his super human physical strength

How Did Columbus Change America
Christopher Columbus, an experienced seafarer, left landmark achievements in various destinations
he set foot in. He made four trips across the Atlantic Ocean from Spain and he mistakenly thought
there was a quicker route to Asia. It turned out he landed on two unknown continents (Jane, pg.6).
In the event of making journeys, he accidentally came across to natives where he taught the spirit of
exploration injecting a great deal in America s global economy. The journey started at the beginning
of different acts like colonization.
Landing of Columbus in America shaped up the living standards of the natives from the former
states to improved measures powered by the spirit of exploration. Columbus changed the world by
introducing the land hungry Europeans to America who reshaped Mexico, Canada, and many other
Caribbean nations through exploration and use of natural resources (Mckay, pg.471). It improved

Comparing Film Trailers of Mission Impossible Two and Gladiator In the essay I will compare
and analyse the two film trailers I have been studying, Mission Impossible 2 and Gladiator . I
will analyse and compare the different techniques used. These techniques are; Use of characters,
lighting and colour, camera shots and angles, sound and music and editing and framing. In doing
this I will be able to show how effective each trailer is in attracting an audience. Film trailers are
an important form of advertising for a film. They should convey the genre of the film and most
importantly, include enough visual information to allow us to recognise what the film s story line
is. However, a film... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

immediately tell that Tom Cruise is under strict instructions from this man. Now this has all
happened, the audience can recognise what genre of film this is, a typical Mission Impossible
or James Bond film. In the trailer for Gladiator , there are lots of good techniques used. To start
with, there is a close up of Russel Crowe dressed in Roman clothing, then it fades out to a plain
black screen that has, The General written on it. It then super imposes back to a camera shot of
Crowe walking through a line of slaves. It then fades back out to, The Slave . It does this several
times with various messages on the screen. This gives the audience a hint about what might
happen in the film. These few opening sequences show that the film Is set in the ancient Roman
era. This differs from Mission Impossible 2 as that is set nowadays, or at least in modern times.
The trailer then moves into showing action scenes, which make the viewer suddenly more alert and
excited, as the first few scenes are dramatic but rather dull. The action scenes begin, and the

Samuel Clemens High School was established during the 1890 s, but it wasn t always as nice, big,

Similarities Between Spiritual And Spiritual Fears
Before stepping into the similarities and differences among spiritual and physical fears, it is
important to understand the meaning/concept of these two ideas. With my understanding, spiritual
fears as said in the text, is that which is supernatural, far beyond the constraints of a human body,
either it is beyond ... or without the body (Lovecraft, 232). These are fears which are not tangible,
or that can be visibly seen, rather are uncertainties which the individuals body is attempting to cope
with against their internal problems. Moreover, physical fears are quite straightforward, as what
the name states, these are simple worries which are developed through materialism, and lack of
ignorance, as often times individuals are terrified of certain items, such as people, without truly
being able to understand and know them. These things that create uneasiness in society are visible,
and commonly dreaded by a group of people rather than spiritual fears, which tend to be more
based on one on one (fearvs one person). With that said, let us now understand the similarities and
differences between these two factors.
Differences:
To begin with, the first differenceI would like to mention is that of spiritual factors being
experienced by individuals thought to be crazy and insane, while additionally these fears being
those which are merely experienced on a one on one basis, and most importantly invisible. For
further clarification, there is merely one victim attempting to

community.
Learning is the single most important aspect of any school education. Being able to retain the

Earlier this year, I had initially started to take a certain class that would not benefit me in the

that course and was merely taking it to fit the norms of other students. Soon after, I realized that
taking a different class that actually interested me would be more beneficial, and thus I would

Ivan Denisovich Satire
In the novel One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich by Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn the genre political
satire was used. The genre political satire is an important section of satire that focuses on
achieving entertainment from mocking politics which relate to our society. These types of novels
help readers reflect on their own life style and society, learning how to improve themselves. There
were 3 elements I chose which were used in this novelto display political satire. The three elements
are irony, sarcasm and parody which display this type of genre very well. The novel is about men

They were put in camps and were forced to work for the government who opened the camps.
They thought they would be able to get out once they worked hard, but that never ended up
happening. All they ever got was a big yelling from the higher power as one of the elders had
stated, Step out! shouted the guard. Step out, you in front. To hell with your Step out . The zeks
marched with measured tread, hanging their heads as at a funeral. Now we ve nothing to lose:
we d be the last back anyhow. He wouldn t treat us like human bengs, now let him burst himself
shouting. (Solzhenitsyn 102). This novel showed the humor in how they were given a certain
amount of time to be in camps, but they were never being let out. They were already in the camp
and were given more sentences if they did not cooperate with the higher power. For example one
of the commanders had said, Well, look out, team leader. If you go on talking like that I ll out
you in the lock up with the rest, Snubnose promised Tiurin, but mildly. (Solzhenitsyn 131). It was
disappointing to see how they worked with all their energy, but were never appreciated. This
problem relates to our societies in our world for example third world war countries where people
are being forced to leave their homes and work at camps.
The second element which was used in the novel to display political satire was sarcasm. Sarcasm

##bols And Symbolism In Life Of Pi By Yann Martel
Symbols have been used from the beginning of civilization for communicating basic needs and
used now to provide deep meanings and definitions. Throughout the whole novel, Life of Pi ,
written by Yann Martel, there are many symbols that have been proven to be significant
throughout the novel. Of the many, there are three main symbols that add overall meaning to the
novel: Richard Parker, Algae Island, and the color orange. Firstly, a main symbol in the novel is
Richard Parker, a four hundred fifty pound Bengal Tiger. Richard Parker with the main
protagonist, Piscine Molitor Patel, also known as Pi, come together during a shipwreck and

power, like God. Algae Island symbolizes religion. In the beginning, when Pi was on the lifeboat he

it was an illusion. ... They grew to be a forest... a low lying island. I pushed myself up. I
continued to disbelieve my eyes ... The trees were beautiful. (Martel 140). Pi was hoping to find
land and finally did. He felt safe at the Algae Island. People turn to religion for safety and for a

Children need that acceptance from their parents in order to feel free to explore his or her world
and express himself or herself to you without fear of [their parent s] disapproval (Eugster). Parents
are also supposed to provide their child with security and stability. According to Jayshree Shah,
stability and security are the most critical ingredients a child needs in order to thrive in our
world. Children need to know that their parents have everything under control so that they are
not constantly worrying about those things themselves. There has to be routines and order in a
child s life so that they are not confused and they will have a semblance of what they can expect.
The routines can be as simple as washing your face when you wake up every morning or saying
your prayer every night right before you go to bed. These routines and stability are useful in crazy
situations because even though your child s world may be spinning they know that even when
things go wrong your love and commitment towards [them] will remain (Shah). Another thing that
stability and security helps with is making a child independent. When a child has a daily routine
they know what to follow and once they get used to that routine they will memorize it and start
doing it on their own making them independent and responsible individuals.

Dna Repair Mechanisms And Cell Cycle Control
Saccharomyces cerevisiaes, or baker s yeasts, unicellular fungi are useful in understanding
genetics and molecular biology, due to the ability to quickly map a phenotype producing gene to a
region in their genome. Yeast mutants are used a tool for the study of cellular function, DNA
repair mechanisms and cell cycle control. As a model organism, S. cerevisiae is one of the
simplest eukaryote organism, having not only most major signaling pathways conserved, but also
consisting of a genome of approximately 12.1 million base pairs in sixteen chromosomes. S.
cerevisiaes, like other model organisms, have properties that make them suitable for biological
studies: rapid growth, easy mutant isolation, a sequenced genetic system and a versatile DNA
transformation system, as homologous recombination is used almost exclusively as their DNA
repair mechanism. Fully sequenced back in 1996 by Francis Collins, yeast genes are easily
engineered and, through bioinformatics and Next Generation Sequencing, are used to investigate
the possible genefunctions of all the different genes in the yeast genome. This is done by studying
the phenotype of strains with disrupted genes, caused by gene knockout or mutations. Furthermore,
S. cerevisiaes are useful as a genome reference towards the sequencing of higher eukaryotic genes.
These characteristics allow yeasts to be easily exploited for the analysis of gene regulation and the
systemic analyses of structure to function relationships of proteins.

the anti arbitration injunction) if there is a prima facie arbitration agreement or, on the flipside, if it
is plain and obvious that the applicant has an obligation to arbitrate. In France, the court must
decline jurisdiction unless the arbitration agreement is patently void . The baseline remains that the
entire process is an exercise of judgment with regard to all the circumstances of the case, including
cognisance of frivolous and mala fides allegations that seek to undermine the kompetenz kompetenz

The Pros And Cons Of Public Education
From a historical perspective, compulsory public education is a relatively new concept. Prior to
establishing public schools, education was reserved for the privileged elite thought to have an
innate predisposition for learning. (Office of Education, 1965; Hazlet, 2011, Iorio, 2011, p3,
Comer, 1996)
Consensus is difficult to achieve within a large and diverse population. Early colonial America was
comprised of a variety of cultures and religions. Agreement on the importance of a strong moral
education did not equate to agreement on the delivery system. Much of early moral education
occurred in the home with the mother serving as the teacher. (McClellan, 29) Not convinced the
home environment was ideal due to variations in parenting styles, and in an effort to assure uniform
and appropriate moral education, public schools were established (McClellan, 30, Hazlet, 2011 p1).
Agreement about the role and goals of public education was not forthcoming. The main challenge
was to create non denominational moral education allowing Sunday school to fill in the gaps for
specific denominational doctrine (McClellan, 29).
In his 1749 writing Proposals Relating To The Education Of Youth In Pennsylvania , when speaking
of establishing educational institutions for the youth of America, Benjamin Franklin wrote:
For though the American Youth are allow d not to want Capacity; yet the best Capacities require
Cultivation, it being truly with them, as with the best Ground, which unless well

The Obesity Epidemic in America Essays
Obesity among Americans has been a growing issue in the United States predominantly over the
past decade. Many may argue American s are obese because of poor food choices, over eating,
genetic disposition, lack of exercise, or the environment which one lives, while others blame it all
on fast food chains and restaurants. Throughout my research I have come to find a lot of facts and
statistics about fast food consumption causing obesity. Statistics show that without a doubt the
United Statesis the most obese country in the world. Since Americans typically live hectic
lifestyles, fast food is a quick and easy way to grab a meal on the go. However, eating fast food
frequently provides the body with high amounts of calories, sugars,... Show more content on

Obesity is a serious health concern and should not be ignored. According to Sassi Obesity and
the chronic diseases associated with it are killers, with severely obese people dying eight to ten
years earlier than their peers . This means leaving ones family, friends and loved ones up to eight
to 10 years earlier than necessary. In the article Overweight and Obesity: Health Consequences, an
estimated 300,000 deaths per year may be attributes to obesity . With this in mind, when ones life is
busy and hectic that 3 minute drive thru may be quick and convenient for the moment, but think of
the long run and the toll that may play on ones body.
Unfortunately, Americans are consuming more fast food now than ever before. In 1952 there
was exactly one McDonalds in all of America, an entire six pack of Coca Cola had fewer ounces
of soda than one can has today, and less than 10% of the Americans were obese. In the decades
that followed, obesity slowly began to rise; many did not think anything of if it until obesity hit
a shocking 23% in 1994. Helen states, From then on obesity across the United States began to
rise until 2005 when it hit a record of 35% of adults and 15% of children were obese . Today, we
call this massive spike in obesity rate the Obesity Epidemic. Usually when one hears the word
epidemic they think of sickness or illness, well

My Personal Online Portfolio
Presenting on my personal online portfolio was a great experience since not many presentations are
individual based. With many assignments leading up to one major task, students were challenged
throughout the semester to eventually present themselves to a fictitious group of employers.
Throughout this short essay, I will reflect on the creation of the professional online portfolio as well
as experiencing the actual presentation. Creating the POP Not only did I enjoy the creation of the
POP, it helped me think back in my past and explore areas I had forgotten about. It s somewhat
like an interview; you must recollect memories of times you were successful at work and in
academics. With Wix, the website builder, I was able to design the site how I wanted it to look. I
remember creating a Wix website about five years ago and the advancement of the online
software is incredible. Back then, it was very lame and very bland. In utilizing the cloud based
software today, I was given full creativity and could express myself creatively. My favorite part
of my POP are the sections in which you can scroll from slide to slide. Instead of crowding my
website with boxes and forcing the reader s eyes to shoot everywhere, I designed my interests and
academic projects areas into a single box with a sliding queue. Of course, the interests and
academic projects are in different boxes and sections, but they are set up the

  • 2. The Perception Of Mortality In Albert Camus s The Stranger Mortality is a concept that can shadow a person s philosophy on life, and heavily influences the behaviors and motivations of literary characters. Human beings question mortality and what it means in alignment to the purpose and significance of living. Many of the character in the catalog of our reading this semester have self made philosophies on mortality that manifest in the thought processes of characters and direction their stories and lives take. The way that characters comprehend mortality proves itself to be a major influence on the behaviors and motivations that are integral to these novels. You see mortality through the lens of chance, existentialism, religion, violence, even as the catalyst for appreciating life. The interpretations of mortality are often shaped by the experiences we go through, and this holds true in complicated, simple, and unique texts. In Albert Camus The Stranger, Meursault believes that life is meaningless in the face of death; it Is assured that every human will die, so the choices we make in this lifetime have little relevance or meaning. This theory that one life was as good as another (Camus, 22) governs much of this novel. The first lines introduce the passing of Meursault s mother, immediately informing the reader of the apathy he shows where most people would react with grief and reflect on the sadness of the situation, Meursault reacts indifferently with That doesn t mean anything (Camus, 1). This is not a direct reflection ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

So is the sentence that begins Diary of a Teenage Girl, Marielle Heller s film adaptation of Phoebe Gloekner s eponymous graphic novel. Common Sense And The Crisis Paper By Thomas Paine In Thomas Paine s pamphlet, Common Sense, he explains that the British government has broken its contract with the American people by quartering their troops in the Americans homes and by unjustly raising taxes, therefore requiring that the colonies secede from Britain. On the other hand, Paine s The Crisis Papers serve to boost the morale of George Washington s Continental Army by using dramatic and emotive language. Paine s differing tones in Common Sense and The Crisis Paper is a direct reflection of their respective audiences: the former utilizes both pathos and logos to influence all Americans, while the latter primarily uses pathos to affect the revolutionary forces. Common Sense and The Crisis Papers share an overlying theme of monarchy, especially Britain s, being an unnecessary evil that must be removed from society. In both works, Paine portrays England s King George III as the reason for all the colonies struggles, falsely claiming that the British had unrightfully raised taxes and that he had no intention of restoring the relationship between the colonies and their mother country as there was an ever growing number of British soldiers... Identifying Communication Styles As A Training Professional Identifying Communication Styles As a training professional, you need to be able to differentiate effective and ineffective communication styles, and understand that their style of communication may often conflict with the way messages are interpreted. By understanding different communication styles, we can help our students begin to understand how to separate the message from the communication style of the person with whom they are communicating and to appropriately respond to the content of the message. Examples would be a supervisor saying to a subordinate in loud and angry tone of voice ...can t you do anything right? (aggressive style) or a shop clerk rolling her eyes back as she tells the customer rummaging through her purse take your time, I m not busy at all (passive aggressive style). Our communication skills are developed based upon our education, attitudes, and preconceived notions. The good news is that communication styles can be changed with effort and the right attitude. No matter your style, effective communication always includes positive feedback. Constructive comments help those you are speaking with to feel good about themselves, to feel more comfortable and confident trying new things, to grow, to be heard and to be taken seriously. Critical and judgmental comments will inhibit growth and learning. For example: Critical/Negative Feedback Your voice is way too low. Nobody will hear a word you have to say! Try it again! In Homer s Iliad, the character of Achilles represents the epitome of the Greek heroic code . Only Achilles fights for pure heroics, while the characters of Diomedes and Hector provide good contrasts. Prowess on the battlefield was ranked supreme, high above any considerations of morality (Martin 26). Nestor, for example, tells Agamemnon and Achilles that he has known much better men than them meaning men who are better at fighting. He warns Patroclus not to be too successful while wearing his armour. In the York Notes is a useful description of how Achilles motivation for fighting is a pure and simple embodiment of the heroic code. In all of the other heroes it is complicated or diminished by their characters in some way: in Agamemnon , for example, it is inseparably linked to a desire for revenge and to reclaim what is his: in Diomedes it is moderated and restrained: in Odysseus and Nestor it is amenable to practical and political considerations: in Aias it is largely unconscious to the extent that it is comic brute force: in Paris it is set aside for a desire for pleasure: and in Hector it is complicated by the needs of others. Thus Achilles is the only character with a great love of battle and glory. He is just about the only great hero who is on the trip for heroics. Moreover, physical fears are quite straightforward, as what the name states, these are simple worries which are developed through materialism, and lack of ignorance, as often times individuals are terrified of certain items, such as people, without truly being able to understand and know them. These things that create uneasiness in society are visible, and commonly dreaded by a group of people rather than spiritual fears, which tend to be more based on one on one (fearvs one person). With that said, let us now understand the similarities and differences between these two factors. Differences: To begin with, the first differenceI would like to mention is that of spiritual factors being experienced by individuals thought to be crazy and insane, while additionally these fears being those which are merely experienced on a one on one basis, and most importantly invisible. For further clarification, there is merely one victim attempting to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

National Honor Society Personal Statement Essay National Honor Society Personal Statement I have always had an interest in improving the community around us, and would like to be involved in this role by helping out in the community. By joining NHS, I aspire to enhance some of my skills, such as ambition, collaboration, and leadership. I hope to increase my initiative to provide service in the community and to take chances out of my comfort zone. By helping out in the community more with service projects I hope to improve my collaborative, management and people skills. In addition, I hope to improve my leadership skills through public service projects. These projects will not only give me more experience with leadership, but they will also motivate me to help my community and my peers with their endeavors. I believe that joining the National Honor Society at River Hill will teach me essential skills for my future, and improve my community. Learning is the single most important aspect of any school education. Being able to retain the content and apply the information is much more important than simply memorizing facts. Earlier this year, I had initially started to take a certain class that would not benefit me in the future, and instead create an abundance amount of stress for me, as I had no interest in taking that course and was merely taking it to fit the norms of other students. Soon after, I realized that taking a different class that actually interested me would be more beneficial, and thus I would be able to focus on my other courses of high levels. This switch genuinely allows me to develop a much higher level of commitment for my other classes and help me retain the information for future purposes. A leader takes diligent time in considering the ability to adhere to other people s interests and presents their followers with a positive mindset. This summer, I accepted an invitation to participate in the Dale Carnegie Young Adult Leadership Program. • 30. Ivan Denisovich Satire In the novel One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich by Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn the genre political satire was used. The genre political satire is an important section of satire that focuses on achieving entertainment from mocking politics which relate to our society. These types of novels help readers reflect on their own life style and society, learning how to improve themselves. There were 3 elements I chose which were used in this novelto display political satire. The three elements are irony, sarcasm and parody which display this type of genre very well. The zeks marched with measured tread, hanging their heads as at a funeral. Now we ve nothing to lose: we d be the last back anyhow. He wouldn t treat us like human bengs, now let him burst himself shouting. (Solzhenitsyn 102). This novel showed the humor in how they were given a certain amount of time to be in camps, but they were never being let out. They were already in the camp and were given more sentences if they did not cooperate with the higher power. For example one of the commanders had said, Well, look out, team leader. If you go on talking like that I ll out you in the lock up with the rest, Snubnose promised Tiurin, but mildly. (Solzhenitsyn 131). It was disappointing to see how they worked with all their energy, but were never appreciated. This problem relates to our societies in our world for example third world war countries where people are being forced to leave their homes and work at camps. Dna Repair Mechanisms And Cell Cycle Control Saccharomyces cerevisiaes, or baker s yeasts, unicellular fungi are useful in understanding genetics and molecular biology, due to the ability to quickly map a phenotype producing gene to a region in their genome. Yeast mutants are used a tool for the study of cellular function, DNA repair mechanisms and cell cycle control. As a model organism, S. cerevisiae is one of the simplest eukaryote organism, having not only most major signaling pathways conserved, but also consisting of a genome of approximately 12.1 million base pairs in sixteen chromosomes. S. cerevisiaes, like other model organisms, have properties that make them suitable for biological studies: rapid growth, easy mutant isolation, a sequenced genetic system and a versatile DNA transformation system, as homologous recombination is used almost exclusively as their DNA repair mechanism. Fully sequenced back in 1996 by Francis Collins, yeast genes are easily engineered and, through bioinformatics and Next Generation Sequencing, are used to investigate the possible genefunctions of all the different genes in the yeast genome. This is done by studying the phenotype of strains with disrupted genes, caused by gene knockout or mutations. Furthermore, S. cerevisiaes are useful as a genome reference towards the sequencing of higher eukaryotic genes. These characteristics allow yeasts to be easily exploited for the analysis of gene regulation and the systemic analyses of structure to function relationships of proteins. ... Prior to establishing public schools, education was reserved for the privileged elite thought to have an innate predisposition for learning. (Office of Education, 1965; Hazlet, 2011, Iorio, 2011, p3, Comer, 1996) Consensus is difficult to achieve within a large and diverse population. Early colonial America was comprised of a variety of cultures and religions. Agreement on the importance of a strong moral education did not equate to agreement on the delivery system. Much of early moral education occurred in the home with the mother serving as the teacher. (McClellan, 29) Not convinced the home environment was ideal due to variations in parenting styles, and in an effort to assure uniform and appropriate moral education, public schools were established (McClellan, 30, Hazlet, 2011 p1). Agreement about the role and goals of public education was not forthcoming. The main challenge was to create non denominational moral education allowing Sunday school to fill in the gaps for specific denominational doctrine (McClellan, 29). In his 1749 writing Proposals Relating To The Education Of Youth In Pennsylvania , when speaking of establishing educational institutions for the youth of America, Benjamin Franklin wrote: For though the American Youth are allow d not to want Capacity; yet the best Capacities require Cultivation, it being truly with them, as with the best Ground, which unless well ...
