Nicolas Pouussin
Nicolas Poussin s landscapes represent his journey as an artist from an historical painter to one that
evokes emotion through his paintings by utilizing his love of all art forms. Poussin s work can never
be taken for surface value there is always a deeper reason to them. Poussin was especially drawn to
scenes of antiquity and biblical scenes which often include some form of architecture or ruins. More
specifically Poussin uses great French painter who was brought into the Roman intellectuals sphere.
Poussin was born in Normandy and lived from 1594 to 1665, but spent most of his life after 1624 in
Rome. Poussin was perhaps one of the most influential French painters whose art was expression of
classicism and ideals. Many French artists considered

A True Hero Essay
A hero could be anybody ranging from a standard everyday person to an amazing human being that
saves lives. The way that a person becomes a hero is no different compared to other people. I think a
hero is an ordinary individual who finds the strength to persevere and endure in spite of overwhelming
obstacles. (Christopher Reeve) This quote shows how an everyday person could be a hero in the
littlest way. Nobody needs to have superpowers to be a hero, doing what is right to make everything
have a better outcome, could make anyone a hero.
A real and true hero would be willing to sacrifice him or herself to help out another person. Whether it
s saving their life or just a little thing like taking a blame for them. For example, while fighting for his
country, he lost an arm and was suddenly afraid (Cassian 64). This evidence shows how a man
sacrificed himself while fighting for others and his country in war. This resulted in him losing
something that belonged to him, making everything in life twice as hard for him now. Also, a true hero
will stand up for what is right and what he or she believes in, instead of following up of what others
think. This could relate to anything if it is standing up for rights, or their beliefs such as religion and
culture. Lastly, a true hero would help someone out without expecting some kind of award or to
become famous. For example, say if someone helps the police with catching a criminal, a true hero
would not question or expect to receive a reward for helping them out. At the end, if anyone acts self
centered or is not willing to make sacrifices to help others, they are not a hero. In contrast, a true hero
would not only care about themselves rather than also caring about others, as in being selfish. A hero
would not put himself first when someone else is in need of help. For example, if a person had a minor
issue compared to someone else and refused to help them out to deal with their own minor problem,
they are self centered. A real hero would also not just ignore someone when they are in need of some
help. They should help them out just because that makes them a good person. To illustrate, if someone
was in a big dilemma and they needed help, person would just ignore them or

The Male s Role In The Aztec Civilization
The Aztec Civilization started out as a nomadic tribe. This means that they moved places a lot. They
were also polytheistic. This means that they believed in many gods, not just one. They also had a very
complicated belief system. Everything was focused on the gods. They believed that if they make
human sacrifices to the sun god, the sun will always rise and the world will stay. If they didn t, the sun
will never rise and the world will end. This belief included taking their human sacrifice away from
their tribe and then stabbing them, taking their heart out of their chest, rising it into the sun and
skinning them. The male and females had different roles. The male s role was to participate in war,

Their family would come and give a speech about the hardships of life. The midwives would be
present during the child s birth. Their role was to supervise and assist the woman s pregnancy,
delivery, and they also perform the ceremonial ritual s associated with the child s birth. They are very
much respected woman. Before the child is born, the midwife offers emotional support to the woman
carrying the baby about how to protect the unborn child. They also protected the unborn child and the
woman in a way. They would have to warn the woman to not look at red objects because it would
cause the child to be born in the wrong position. The women s role in the Aztec civilization was to get
married and become a housewife. They would get married around the age of 15. Sometimes they
would get married as young as 10 or 12. They were entitled and chosen for marriage unless they chose
to devote their lives to temple service. They could be priestess. When the girl is an infant, they can be
dedicated to the priesthood. When the woman is a priestess, they had to sweep the temple and the
court everyday, water the garden, and make food for the idols and priests. They would also have to be
involved in some rituals to the gods in which they would assist the priest in sacrifices in idol worship.
If they didn t want to do that, when they get older, they could either stay or leave the priesthood and
start a family.

The Logistics Of A Supply Chain
The logistics of a supply chain can be very difficult to understand. There are many different parts
involved and if one does not function correctly the others will soon follow. From manufacturing to
transportation there is always something happening within the supply chain. Every section of the
supply chain is scrutinized and checked to see if the process is going as smoothly as possible.
Knowing different styles of research can help in diagnosing problems from within the supply chain.
Two of these methods are quantitative research and qualitative research. Two methods that are used to
research and calculate an issue would be the quantitative method and the qualitative method. Each
method has its own style. Quantitative research deals with numbers, has data that can be measured
such as length, speed, time or cost (Roberts, 2012). Qualitative research deals with descriptions and
data that cannot be measured (Roberts, 2012). These methods will both help to diagnose any issues
that could arise within the supply chain from the manufacturer all the way to the customer s hands.
Having a customer do a survey is a qualitative research object. This can then be formulated with other
customers and figure out if it is necessary to make more product to have on hand or to back off and
stop production on the product. If a researcher is going through online reviews and is counting how
many stars a product received through a website, they would be using quantitative research. This is

Analysis Of The Inconvenient Indian By Thomas King
Thomas King s The Inconvenient Indian tells the story of Indigenous people in Canada and the United
States, it challenges the narrative on how Indigenous history is taught and explains why Indigenous
people continue to feel frustrated. King s seeks to educate the reader as he provides a detailed
accounts of the horrific massacres Indigenous people endured, yet he simultaneously inserts humorous
moments which balances out the depressing content and enhances his story. The books highlights the
neglect and assimilation that Indigenous were subjected to and how their survival was seen as an
inconvenience to western culture. King directs his message at a Euro centric audience to offer an
accurate explanation of Indigenous culture and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Live Indians were seen as problematic because they refused to die out and they were not wanted in
society (61). Canada and the US categorized Indigenous people creating a complex paternalistic
system because Indigenous people were seen as inferior. The American and Canadian governments
sought to control Indigenous people without any regard for their human dignity, nor did they
acknowledge the different tribes, languages or customs and instead set about creating a single entity
that would stand for the whole group (82). Instead of treating each group differently, the one size fits
all approach was taken because it required less work on the governments part and reinforced the
message that Natives were not important enough for individual recognition. King shows the
assimilation and elimination that Indigenous people endured and how the governments decided that
they had to either butcher or civilize the Indians quickly (108). A major assimilation policy were
residential schools which targeted children so their culture would die out by the next generation. King
compares colonialism to malaria stating that it can lie dormant for many years and then flare up again
which is what happened in in the US in 1887 with the General Allotment Act (128). Washington
attempted yet again to increase assimilation, the policy broke up reserves and enforced US citizenship
on Indigenous people. Meanwhile Canada had the White Paper of 1969

What Does It Mean To Say That The Rich Get Richer And The...
There, the poor are not oppressed, the rich are not privileged. . . . Their taxes are few because their
government is just; and as there is nothing to render them wretched, there is nothing to engender riots
and tumults. I m asking for the vote of every single African American citizen. You re living in poverty.
Your schools are no good. You have no jobs.
African Americans, now 45 percent poverty in the inner cities. The education is a disaster. Jobs are
essentially nonexistent. In the end, you re measured not by how much you undertake but by what you
finally accomplish. These quotes are all by our current president, Donald Trump. Pain states that the
poor are not oppressed, the rich are not privileged . Trump and Paine have two totally different views
when it comes to money. The sad thing is that what Trump believes most Americans also believe. I
have been on both sides of poor and wealthy. I have seen both sides from both perspectives. Many
wealthy people would say who provides the jobs? and others would reply saying we do! and thinks it
is fine. The only reason why the poor are offered jobs is that the so called wealthy people are too lazy
to do the work. The phrase the rich get richer and the poor get poorer is very accurate in the US today.
I believe that Paine s beliefs in 1791 and views would change if he lived in 2018. I am a firm believer
that people are judged more on money than any other aspects of life. Some of the most successful
people today have

Reflection On The Treatment Of Prisoners
Our society tends to jump to conclusions and make assumptions of prisoners. Despite what they have
committed and how severe it may be they are still human. We look at them as if they are inhumane
because they are in prison. They still deserve some of the rights that they had before being convicted. I
m not saying that I am okay with the crimes they have committed but I am okay with them having a
little more of their basic rights. I think the treatment of prisoners should also be reconsidered. I think
that they deserve more time outside of their cells. Inmates only get a certain amount of time outside
which I think is entirely unfair. I also think that their visitation rights should be reconsidered. As of
right now they are only aloud to talk to their visitors over a telephone. What if they have been in
prison for years? I think they should get to physically visit with their visitors and not just talk over a
phone. Prisoners do have the constitutional right to enjoy contact visits and I think that this should be
reconsidered and changed. Prisoners do not get to choose the work that they are permitted to. I also
think this is unfair and they should be able to pick what they do for work. In doing so, this will solve
some of the problems of prisoners acting out and will result in less cruel punishment of prisoners.
There are things that can be changed that will solve a lot of the issues that guards may have with the
prisoners. Prisoners are not allowed to do many things.

Example Of A Political Cartoon Essay
As November rolls along and the presidential elections begin, political cartoons on the candidates,
Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton, come into play. While there are numerous issues currently being
advertised about in the media, there is only one issue that I feel is most spoken about, that should not
be. That issue is immigration. While Hillary Clinton feels that immigrants should be able to stay in the
U.S., Donald Trump is a massive supporter of sending back any immigrants, especially Mexicans, to
their birthplaces. I believe that Donald Trump is a huge racist and does not care about other people
that are not of his race. Political Cartoons by cartoonist John Darkow and John Cole illustrate how
irrational and racist Donald Trump views on

Technology In War Research Paper
Technology at times have been referred to as inventions which create values for human beings and
help them in living a better lifestyle, but no one would have ever thought technology would have even
played an important role in war. The way wars are conducted have changed leaps and bounds from
early 1800s to modern days. Industrial revolution and technologies have transformed how the warfare
is conducted. Although technology might have helped opponents of the war to showcase their
strengths during warfare and win wars, however certain reforms used in warfare had its effects
(positive or negative) on the civilian citizens too.
Since start of midcentury, industrial revolution had started shaping the warfare. The technological

It was felt that it is important that manufacturing science should consider equipping the soldiers with
guns which could make a bigger impact for the enemies. The armies have come a long way since they
fought with spears, bows and arrows. Undoubtedly, the greatest technological reform came in the field
artillery. (WORLD HISTORY OF WARFARE Archer, Christon I., 1940 ; Ferris, John Robert, 1956 ;
Herwig, Holger H.; Travers, Timothy., c2002. Armed forces are one of biggest resource used in
warfare and weapons are their tools provided, to help maneuver them in the fields. These weapons are
designed to make maximum impact on enemies in terms of harm or kill or making them disabled, so
that infantry soldiers can make inroads to enemy s territory. Technological advancement in weapons is
just not only attributed to change in physical form of weapon, but there is lot of physics, chemistry,
mechanics are involved in development of weapons. Previously, guns had been cast in individual
molds and hence been much too heavy to drag across battlefields. Starting in eighteen century and
until World War 1 various types of artillery guns were developed and used in war, however each one
of these had their limitations. For example, prior to World War 1, Gatling gun was the most popular
automatic rapid fire weapon, however it was quite heavy which limited its use in warfare. Later
British developed Vickers gun, however it required six man team to operate his gun. Subsequently
Americans invented Lewis gun, an automatic machine gun. This gun was gas powered and just
weighted 28lbs. It could fire 500 600 rounds per minute with maximum muzzle velocity of 2,440 feet
per seconds. The machine gun was an effective addition to arsenals during this time of

The Pros And Cons Of Child Labor
Before the 20th century, child labor was common and expected in poorer households. Child labor
wasn t made illegal in the US until 1938. Following the Fair Labor Standards Act, illegal child labor
includes minors under sixteen, working dangerous jobs, and are only allotted a certain amount of
hours. Children under sixteen can work if it is a family business and not a deemed dangerous job.
Some of the countries currently with the worst amount of child labor are Zimbabwe, Pakistan, and
Somalia. The less developed countries have child labor still either because they need it or can t enforce
it. Working while in school is considered a good way to get into life. But it can also be a hindrance on
school. There end up being two major problems when combining work and school go to school and
don t work very much, or go to work instead of school. Attendance of either activity is affected by the
other. There isn t enough time to fully participate in both. On top of attendance, homework is added
and requires more time, still. To combine all three and save time in the future, school related jobs are
available. Internships and subject specific jobs allow youth to get work experience and further
education. But school related jobs aren t as easy to get as jobs at fast food or retail. Working during
school can be stressful and time consuming for students, causing their schooling to lack, or it can
further it more. Stress is a strong work related factor. Young people already have a lot

The Apology Of Socrates
The Apology of Socrates is a Plato s version of speeches given by Socrates who was accused for two
main reasons: the corruption of the youth and impiety (not believing in gods in whom the city
believes). In the Apology Socrates tries to defend himself and his actions but not to apologize for it.
He insisted that he must be wiser than others because he knows and recognizes that knows nothing.
The Apology by Plato shows that there is a great influence of Socrates in searching for the truth about
humanity and society even when his attempt contradicted with the opinions of the many .

Socrates tells them that he will speak the truth, and pleads the judges to think of the justice of his
cause but not minding the style of his speech. In making his defense, Socrates will reply to two kinds
of accusations. At first, he refers to the older charges and his first accusers, and secondly he replies to
the accusations made by Meletus, Anytus, and Lycon. He was afraid of the older accusers most of all
and the reason behind this dread was that his accusers were many and he couldn t call them all by
name. These accusers falsely claims can be summed up in the following words: Socrates is an evil
doer, and a curious person, who searches into things under the earth and in heaven, and he makes the
worse appear the better cause; and he teaches the aforesaid doctrines to others. He responses to these
falsehoods by arguing that he has nothing to do with the physical sciences nor is he paid for giving
instruction he has nothing to teach. He then goes on to explain how he gained such a bad reputation.
The impetuous Chaerephon had gone to Delphi and asked the oracle if there was any man wiser than
Socrates; and the answer was, that there was no man wiser. After a long consideration Socrates thinks
of a method of trying a question. He goes to one who had the reputation of wisdom and selects a

Humans Were Hunters And Gatherers
Prehistorically, we find that humans were hunters and gatherers. They would hunt animals for the
meat and they would gather fruits and vegetables that were grown naturally for their food. After some
time, people discovered that they could do agriculture instead and doing that greatly increased the
amount of food that people could grow and store. Agriculture changed everything with regards to how
the human society was built. This was because when the people would forage, there was no way for
them to store the food for a long time, as the meat would and the fruits/vegetables would go bad if it
was left out in the open for extended amounts of time. This meant that they had to be hunting and
gathering throughout the year, meaning that most of their lives and time would be spent looking for
food. However, with agriculture, came a boom with regards to food production. People had more food
that they could store and eat anytime. This gave way to people having more time on their hands,
which meant they could pursue other aspects of the society, such as politics and art. In this regard we
find that the foraging societies were much more egalitarian compared to agricultural societies. Many
people have sought to answer the question why such foraging societies tended to be more egalitarian.
It has to be noted that during the twentieth century, anthropologists found and were able to study many
different hunter gatherer societies in the modern world that lived in the more remote parts of

Art Movement After World War I
According to the Visual Art Encyclopedia, Surrealism sprang up in Paris and became rooted in the
avant garde art world. Surrealism was the fashionable art movement after World War I. Surrealism is
and the last major art movement to be associated with the Ecole de Paris. The writer Andre Breton
(1896 1966), nicknamed the Pope of Surrealism , was the movement s founder and chief theorist. He
introduced and defined the new style in his initial 1924 manifesto (Manifeste du Surrealisme) and later
in his painting bulletin (Surrealisme et la Peinture). Breton deplored the radical and destructive
character of Dada, nevertheless he built on many Dada ideas to create a movement with a coherent
though unbending philosophy. He aimed at nothing less than a total conversion of the way people
thought. Surrealism was less overtly political and advocated a more positive philosophy. The main
focus of the surrealism movement was literature but this rapidly broadened to painting, sculpture and
other forms of contemporary visual art. Surrealist strived to bring forward the imagery of the
unconscious mind. Surrealist philosophy believed that nongovernmental and irrational art were
preferable for life and civilization. Surrealism was responsible for a host of incredibly innovative but
strange art. Surrealism was meant to free the unconscious mind from reason. Breton and other
surrealists were strongly influenced by the psychological work of Sigmund Freud The term Pop Art

The Word Nigger
Words Cut Deeper Than a Knife The word nigger is a word of many and various meanings with
plentiful purposes. It is like no other word. People use this word to criticize, harm, exclaim, and even
to sound cool to others. There are so many variations of the word nigger that could seem less harmful
like nigga , nig , etc, that are used to disguise true intentions. To determine the meaning of the word
nigger it is crucial to look deeply at the scenario because it can be used in so many ways for so many
reasons. For instance, overlooking the time period, the geographical location and the acts unfolding
could lead to a misunderstanding of the true meaning of the word nigger . The two biggest things to
consider when determining the true meaning of the word is to recognize who is using the word and
who exactly the word is being targeted towards; but failing to recognize other factors also help when
determining the connotation. Race is a huge part of how this word is defined. Because this word has a
greater effect on black people than white people, it is very common for a black person to be more

My Views On Sexuality And Its Effect On The Representation...
I feel there are many works of LGBTQ writing out there that, although innovative for their time, could
benefit from being extended with a stronger queer lens. Savin Williams Memories of Same Sex
Attraction was one of these, although I enjoyed the stories and concepts he brought forward. What I
missed, however, was an emphasis on the concept of attraction on multiple levels that extend beyond
sexuality and a stronger discussion of the reoccurring traits seen in gay male youth. I know we ll be
touching on homosexuality and masculinity later in the semester, so I will try to avoid breaking into
that. Instead I will focus my interests in the idea of attractions and what effects this could have on the
representation of masculinity. My goal is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

be understood under the one size fits all structure imposed on it. Yet even with this fantastic analysis
on the pressures of childhood for gay men, I felt there was something even beyond what Savin
Williams talked about something beyond homosexuality.
Homosexuality is a word that immediately invokes ideas of sexual attraction for me, and not just
because it has the word sex written inside of it. It has been defined to me countless times, from queer
studies to the field of psychology, as being the desire for sexual interests or relations with someone of
the same sex. All immediate branching identities of homosexuality, such as gay and lesbian, almost
automatically receive this same sexual definition. The history of the word pressures the sexualized
connotation, having originally been used to identify a mental disorder based solely in the

Main Theme Of Death Of A Salesman
Death of a Salesman was performed by the first time in 1949 and since then it has been considered one
of the most important of American plays. It was awarded in 1949 Pulitzer Prize for Drama and Tony
Award for Best Play. The play is a challenge to the American dream which since the Civil War ( and to
be more precise since 1900) has become the dream of business success. Horatio Alger s characters and
from rags to riches narration of his stories rooted the myth of success in American character and souls
of millions of Americans. Miller wrote his play few years after the end of the Second World War: in
times of rising power of capitalism and consumerism in America. The famous slogan of those times
was saying: freedom to work, freedom do dream, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the characters in the film Roslyn says: Maybe all there really is, is just the next thing. The next
thing that happens. Maybe you re not supposed to remember anybody s promises. I believe that there
is a link between Death of a Salesman and The Misfits. Both works at the end are filled with deep
sadness, loneliness, and grief of people who lost their dreams and realized that the faith is those
dreams and hard work are not enough. Maybe you re not supposed to remember anybody s promises
sounds like Maybe you re not supposed to remember dreams of the past . As children grow up and
crash into the hard wall of reality Miller s characters are grown ups who finally find out the truth.
Death of a Salesman is a play of death of the American dream and faith in from rags to riches
narration: that all are equal and the only thing that matters is hard work. The character of Willy s son,
Biff represents the awareness, the harsh truth that not everyone can (and will succeed) and he
understands his place in society. The key to the play s power and success is that we (as readers and
viewers) can feel what the characters are experiencing because we have all been there in one form or
another. We all have dreams that has been

Standard Oil And The Largest Petroleum Products Company
In 1870 John D. Rockefeller started Standard Oil Co. and it quickly became the largest petroleum
products company in the world. By 1890 Standard controlled 90 percent of refined oil in the United
States and was sued by the state of Ohio for its anticompetitive practices. Standard Oil of Ohio which
was its original name simply broke the company into 41 separate companies, and controlled them
through the new Standard Oil Trust, legally known as Standard Oil Co. of New Jersey. Because there
were no federal laws prohibiting anticompetitive behavior in business Standard Oil was able to avoid
any serious repercussions from the government. Standard Oil achieved market dominance by
undercutting the competition, arranging special deals with railroads, and aggressively buying out its
competition. Between 1902 and 1904 the writer Ida Tarbell, the daughter of a failed oil businessman
whose company went under because of Standard Oils practices, wrote a 19 part investigational report
into the practices of Standard Oil. These articles led to the wide spread public outcry for the
government to do something about Standard Oil and monopolies in all other industries. In 1911
Standard Oil was sued by the United States and the case reached the Supreme Court. Under the
Sherman Act the government alleged Standard Oil was a monopoly and abused its monopolistic power
to restrain trade through predatory pricing and unfair deals with railroad companies. Standard Oil cut
oil prices severely in areas

Dna Evidence And Its Repercussions
We will examine the importance of DNA in the conviction of Tommie Lee Andrews and the
significance of this decision in the United States Judicial System. We will discuss an overview of
some of the essential elements in conducting utilizing this DNA evidence and its repercussions. This
case signified the first time in the United Sates that DNA evidence was actually admissible in court
proceedings during a criminal trial. In 1986, in a neighborhood around the Orlando, Florida area a
series of violent rapes had the city on edge. One of the victim s names was Nancy Hodge, who was
brutally raped at knifepoint by her attacker. She only briefly saw the attacker and was not able to
immediately identify him due to his hands having covered her ... Show more content on

Due to the brief period that Hodge had been allowed to see her attacker, the prosecution felt that
stronger evidence was needed to prove a connection. The brief 6 second glimpse that the victim Nancy
Hodge obtained during her ordeal wasn t considered viable enough for trial purposes (Lewis). This
relatively new forensic investigation technic involving the use of DNA fingerprinting was in its
infancy and was pioneered by a British scientist might hold the answer to convicting the rapist.
Because the mistrial of Andrews caught the prosecution off guard due to not having appropriate
information or statistics of its viability, a new plan was needed. The prosecution felt that a stronger
case against Andrews was needed to proceed in court. The prosecutor contacted a colleague familiar
with principles of the DNA evidence in England for guidance. He then contacted a company in New
York used to develop methods of DNA profiling or fingerprinting for assistance.
Once the results of testing were completed in this case, it positively matched two of the six rapes
being investigated. The problems associated with this technology were that no real national database
that was established or in place for complete comparison, and the since the technology was considered
being fairly new it would require it to go through an

Sweet Pea Research Paper
Sweet Pea Mack
There is a common belief that our animals find us. Looking for our forever dog does not always come
easily or quickly. That match may be increasingly difficult if you are looking for the ideal dog to
become part of a community. One of the most difficult challenges of aging of the loss of a pet. While
it is not uncommon for retirement communities to allow small cats and dogs, the resident needs to be
able to independently care for their pet either by themselves, family, or paid caregivers. As a geriatric
social worker, I am a firm believer in the power of the human animal bond, and totally support seniors
with maintaining a relationship with animals in whatever capacity they are able. Years ago I was
working in a retirement community committed to improving the culture and climate in the nursing
home by implementing the Eden Alternative. This system is designed to create a human habitat
through the inclusion of plants, animal, and volunteers.
Adopting two suitable dogs was my mission. Enter into the picture is Sweet Pea and Mack, rescued

Evaluation Of A Research Article From A Professional...
The purpose of this assignment is to critically review a research article extracted from a professional
journal using a critiquing framework. The essay will attempt to analyse and evaluate the validity and
rigour of the research study and will unitise the critiquing framework for quantitative research papers
devised by (Steen and Roberts, 2011, p56 57), while also taking time to reflect upon the research study
s value and influence on practice. The article Women s perception of the term obstetrician (Kenyon,

Schneider, Whitehead, LoBiondo Woo, Haber (2012) propose that is it essential for midwives to
understand research including how it is conducted and what it means for practice, in order to achieve
evidence based practice (EBP). This is echoed in The Code (NMC 2008???) which outlines that
midwives have a duty to women they care for. Midwives need to care for them using the most up to

Publication
A publication can be judged in a number of ways. A rigorous selection procedure for publication of
articles, a low approval rate for manuscripts and how often the journal is cited by published scholars
in other journals; (known as the impact factor). These are all influences that lead to what is seen to be
a more superior journal. Consequently this means greater belief in the data present in the publication.
The Institute for Scientific Information (ISI) uses statistics to calculate a journal s impact factor ,
which as stated is a suggestion of the influence an article exercises on other researchers in a similar
research field (Locke, Silverman, Spirduso, 2010). Other areas that will indicate the trustworthiness of
a publication is the quality of the editorial board. A good board would consist of researchers that
belong to a university and who are experienced in the subject field of the journal (Locke, Silverman,
Spirduso, 2010). Many research journals have a

Criminal Behavior And Its Effects On The Crime
Criminals convicted of sexual offences such as rape and molestation often receive sentences that are
not severe enough to account for their crime. These lax sentences are due to the fact that rape has had
ambiguous definitions in the past portions of the blame are shifted onto the victim or considered out of
the offender s control and the offender s behaviour outside of the crime tend to impact the severity of
their punishment. A contemporary example of this is Brock Turner, convicted sexual offender of
Stanford University. Turner digitally penetrated an intoxicated, unconscious woman behind a
dumpster and served three months in prison. Differential Association states that criminal behaviour is
learned from intimate associates, like Turner s swim team friends. Neutralisation is the process of
learning to rationalise crime by shifting blame and trivialising the crime. Brock Turner s case is
wrought with neutralisation. Turner s feeble sentence isn t an exception to otherwise proportionate
punishments of rapists; it s the rule. His statement, the victim s statement, media coverage and the
public perspective can all be analysed using Neutralisation Theory and Differential Association to get
a better understanding of why rapists are not sufficiently punished.
Neutralisation Theory and Differential Association both stem from the Positivist School of
Criminology meaning that both surmise that punishment should fit the criminal not the crime. This
simply isn t applicable to

Negative Effects of the Lincoln Assassination
Logan Flanagan

Negative Effects of the Lincoln Assassination
Soon after President Abraham Lincoln died on Good Friday, April 15, 1865, the fatal bullet with
which he was murdered was removed. Dr. Curtis, one of the doctors who performed the procedure,
later wrote, There it [the bullet] lay upon the white china, a little black mass no bigger than the end of
my finger dull, motionless and harmless, yet the cause of such mighty changes in the world s history
as we may perhaps never realize (Swanson 135). The doctor was correct in his statement that Lincoln
s death would have substantial and far reaching effects. The assassination of the sixteenth president of
the United States of America had many negative results that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Booth s family, a well known family of actors that was famous before the assassination, lost its
positive reputation forever. Also, people who knew Booth or were associated with him were
persecuted for his wrongdoing. An article from the American Civil War Roundtable of Australia, a
conference in Australia for people interested in the Civil War and its aftermath, says that four
supposed co conspirators Lewis Powell, David Herold, George Atzerodt, and Mary Surratt were
hanged for their part in the assassination plot. Mary Surratt s sentencing was considered very
controversial because some evidence against her was later determined to be erroneous, and her
sentence of death shocked the nation. Three men Sam Arnold, Michael O Laughlin, and Dr. Samuel
Mudd were given life prison sentences, and another man, Edmen Spangler, was imprisoned for six
years (Curry 24). These people were accused of assisting Booth in his assassination plot. While
Powell, Herold, Atzerodt, Arnold, and O Laughlin were actually found guilty in helping Booth in his
plot, and Dr. Mudd had aided Booth s escape, Spangler and Surratt s participation in the assassination
plot or its execution was uncertain; they were tried and punished partially because they were
associated with Booth. As a result of Lincoln s death, Booth s family and acquaintances were blamed,
hated, and persecuted.

The Use of Force
The Use of Force The point of view in the story The Use of Force is in first person narrative. This
conveys inner the inner thoughts of the narrator as the doctor. The doctor is a reliable narrator and an
observer. I feel that his personality is brought out in the doctor. So the doctors thoughts and behaviors
are a reflection of the authors. As for the setting it takes place at a family s home. I think it takes place
somewhere in the early 1900 s. I think it would make a difference to the story if it were set somewhere
else, only because if the sick girl was brought to like a hospital for example, maybe she would have
been diagnosed and helped sooner without all the hassle that occurred at the house. The diction of the

So it didn t effect the point of the story. Something that really puzzled me in the story was when the
first old lady ran after Marian in the hall and sort of grabbed her by her hair and asked her for a penny.
I didn t understand that point and I don t think it made much sense to the story. The conflict in the
story is when Marian actually goes into the old women s room. The conflict isn t very clear, but its
very obvious there is a problem. The first old women is very outgoing, and the second old women, is
angry, and bitter. So there s a bit of clashing going on with them and it shows when they spoke to each
other. The events that led up to the plot are Marian going into the Old women s home, being in the
room and communicating with them til finally she gets so scared she runs out. The theme of this story
is also irony. Everything in the story conveyed the theme irony, only because everything seemed like
the opposite of what it should have been. For instance when Marian goes to the old women s home for
charity. The purpose of charity is to help people who cant help themselves, or to do something nice for
someone. In the story, Marian isn t doing it to be helpful, she is only visiting the old women for extra
points for her campfire girls. Another example of the irony was the old women constantly disagreed or
contradicted each other. One old women was overly optimistic and ignorant of Addies constant
negativity and rudeness towards her. You would expect

International Perceptions Of Management As An American...
International Perceptions of Management Hofstede once said, Management as the word is presently
used is an American invention. In other parts of the world not only the practices but the entire concept
of management may differ (Hofstede, 1993, p. 81). Adding this difference in the perception of
management to the already existing cultural difference creates another layer of complexity as well as
an additional potential for cross cultural friction. While these differences affect things like chain of
command, they also impart differences in what is considered acceptable workplace behavior as
illustrated by Todd s experience in Italy. The Italian experience also highlights how cultural models,
while helpful, do not apply uniformly. Italy is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
India Todd also has experience working with teams from India. People from India have a different
work ethic than do the people from the US they just work harder. They do not generally show up to
work until mid morning, often 9 am or 10 am, but usually work until 7 pm and often later. Adjusting to
their ethic and hours was not difficult, adjusting to their work by task mentality was (Ricketts, 2015).
He goes on further mentioning the task mentality of people from India. When working, they are driven
by completing tasks, not being inquisitive. He gives an example of filing a report with numbers if the
numbers don t seem to make sense a U.S. employee would look into, be curious and want to fix the
problem at hand. On the other side, an Indian employee would just finish the report and not try to
problem solve.
When delving further into his experiences and observations of his Indian co workers, he states that
people from India usually have a very submissive personality so much so that although they may not
understand a task, they will not ask enough questions to further the outcome (Ricketts, 2015). This
could be due to the appreciation for hierarchy in India. According to Hofstede s National Culture
Dimension scores, India scores high on power distance. Power Distance is defined as the extent to
which the less powerful members of institutions and organizations within a country expect and accept
that power is distributed unequally (What about India). Employees

What Are The Red Flags In The Landlady
In the story, The Landlady by Roald Dahl there are numerous red flags where a young man, Billy, has
trouble trusting his instincts. Billy is quite intrigued when he finds a Bed and Breakfast that is
inexpensive. He finds the sweet old lady to be a little off, but ignores it until he realizes what she will
do to him. In this story, Dahl shows that Billy should trust his instincts when something seems off,
otherwise something awful might end up happening to him. The first red flag happens in the beginning
of the story. Although it may not stand out as particularly important or atrocious, when combined with
other minor, almost negligible events that happen it is definitely worth noticing. Dahl writes,
Normally you ring the bell and you have at least a half minutes wait before the door opens. But this
dame was a like a jack in the box. (2) Billy appears to find this a little strange, but this alone, without
her telling him how she was expecting him and other little things she does it doesn t seem that
important. She says little peculiar things to him when he first arrives at the Bed and Breakfast. The
landlady quickly opening the door alone is fine, but when she starts to do the other little things he

was all she had. He was the only one who would let her in. (183) Ezra was in love with Ruth and
despite her lack of character, Cody was responsible for seducing her out of the relationship she had
with Ezra. As a result Ezra was left heartbroken and lonely, taking away the happiness Pearl had for
Ezra and his love for Ruth. Ezra didn t let people in that easily because he was looking for someone
special. Cody s actions drove him even further away from Pearl. Cody s animosity for Ezra is what
drove him and Ruth s marriage, and it was inevitable that their marriage would fall apart. Cody s
recklessness and hatred for Ezra is demonstrated in the beginning of the book when the whole family
took a trip. Beck was trying to teach Cody how to shoot a arrow but Cody was not listening to his
father and kept making mistakes. Pearl told Ezra to try to shoot the arrow on the target and he was
able to get the target. In jealousy and rage Cody grabbed the arrow and shot it and it ended up hitting
Pearl. Cody is driven by his hatred for Pearl s favoritism for Ezra and this causes him

Technology In Canada
According to the Globe and Mail, as of 2013, 23% of Canadian Companies offered employees the
option to telecommute. A Statistics Canada study stated that in 2000, 1,425,700 respondents worked
from home, where as in 2008 the number of people working from home was 1,748,600, a small but
notable upward trend. Though numbers are only increasing slowly, more and more Canadians are
working from home. The trend is particularly impacting university graduates, of who more than 1 in 5
work from home. Factors that have contributed to this trend include an increase in the type and
availability of technology, the desire of today s workers to have a better work life balance, and the
desire of companies to attract employees. In today s work technology is increasing at a rapid pace, and
much of it is more accessible than before. An example that has been changed by both of these factors
is the internet. When first introduced to homes and businesses, use of the internet required it to be
connected to a phone line. In many homes this would have meant that you could use one or the other,
but not both at once. During this era access to the internet was limited to those who could afford to ...

  • 3. A True Hero Essay A hero could be anybody ranging from a standard everyday person to an amazing human being that saves lives. The way that a person becomes a hero is no different compared to other people. I think a hero is an ordinary individual who finds the strength to persevere and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles. (Christopher Reeve) This quote shows how an everyday person could be a hero in the littlest way. Nobody needs to have superpowers to be a hero, doing what is right to make everything have a better outcome, could make anyone a hero. A real and true hero would be willing to sacrifice him or herself to help out another person. Whether it s saving their life or just a little thing like taking a blame for them. For example, while fighting for his country, he lost an arm and was suddenly afraid (Cassian 64). This evidence shows how a man sacrificed himself while fighting for others and his country in war. This resulted in him losing something that belonged to him, making everything in life twice as hard for him now. Also, a true hero will stand up for what is right and what he or she believes in, instead of following up of what others think. This could relate to anything if it is standing up for rights, or their beliefs such as religion and culture. Lastly, a true hero would help someone out without expecting some kind of award or to become famous. For example, say if someone helps the police with catching a criminal, a true hero would not question or expect to receive a reward for helping them out. At the end, if anyone acts self centered or is not willing to make sacrifices to help others, they are not a hero. In contrast, a true hero would not only care about themselves rather than also caring about others, as in being selfish. A hero would not put himself first when someone else is in need of help. For example, if a person had a minor issue compared to someone else and refused to help them out to deal with their own minor problem, they are self centered. A real hero would also not just ignore someone when they are in need of some help. They should help them out just because that makes them a good person. To illustrate, if someone was in a big dilemma and they needed help, person would just ignore them or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. The Logistics Of A Supply Chain The logistics of a supply chain can be very difficult to understand. There are many different parts involved and if one does not function correctly the others will soon follow. From manufacturing to transportation there is always something happening within the supply chain. Every section of the supply chain is scrutinized and checked to see if the process is going as smoothly as possible. Knowing different styles of research can help in diagnosing problems from within the supply chain. Two of these methods are quantitative research and qualitative research. Two methods that are used to research and calculate an issue would be the quantitative method and the qualitative method. Each method has its own style. Quantitative research deals with numbers, has data that can be measured such as length, speed, time or cost (Roberts, 2012). Qualitative research deals with descriptions and data that cannot be measured (Roberts, 2012). These methods will both help to diagnose any issues that could arise within the supply chain from the manufacturer all the way to the customer s hands. Having a customer do a survey is a qualitative research object. This can then be formulated with other customers and figure out if it is necessary to make more product to have on hand or to back off and stop production on the product. If a researcher is going through online reviews and is counting how many stars a product received through a website, they would be using quantitative research. This is ... Analysis Of The Inconvenient Indian By Thomas King Thomas King s The Inconvenient Indian tells the story of Indigenous people in Canada and the United States, it challenges the narrative on how Indigenous history is taught and explains why Indigenous people continue to feel frustrated. King s seeks to educate the reader as he provides a detailed accounts of the horrific massacres Indigenous people endured, yet he simultaneously inserts humorous moments which balances out the depressing content and enhances his story. The books highlights the neglect and assimilation that Indigenous were subjected to and how their survival was seen as an inconvenience to western culture. Live Indians were seen as problematic because they refused to die out and they were not wanted in society (61). Canada and the US categorized Indigenous people creating a complex paternalistic system because Indigenous people were seen as inferior. The American and Canadian governments sought to control Indigenous people without any regard for their human dignity, nor did they acknowledge the different tribes, languages or customs and instead set about creating a single entity that would stand for the whole group (82). Instead of treating each group differently, the one size fits all approach was taken because it required less work on the governments part and reinforced the message that Natives were not important enough for individual recognition. King shows the assimilation and elimination that Indigenous people endured and how the governments decided that they had to either butcher or civilize the Indians quickly (108). A major assimilation policy were residential schools which targeted children so their culture would die out by the next generation. King compares colonialism to malaria stating that it can lie dormant for many years and then flare up again which is what happened in in the US in 1887 with the General Allotment Act (128). Washington attempted yet again to increase assimilation, the policy broke up reserves and enforced US citizenship on Indigenous people. Meanwhile Canada had the White Paper of 1969 ... • 9. What Does It Mean To Say That The Rich Get Richer And The... There, the poor are not oppressed, the rich are not privileged. . . . Their taxes are few because their government is just; and as there is nothing to render them wretched, there is nothing to engender riots and tumults. I m asking for the vote of every single African American citizen. You re living in poverty. Your schools are no good. You have no jobs. African Americans, now 45 percent poverty in the inner cities. The education is a disaster. Jobs are essentially nonexistent. In the end, you re measured not by how much you undertake but by what you finally accomplish. These quotes are all by our current president, Donald Trump. Pain states that the poor are not oppressed, the rich are not privileged . Trump and Paine have two totally different views when it comes to money. The sad thing is that what Trump believes most Americans also believe. I have been on both sides of poor and wealthy. I have seen both sides from both perspectives. Many wealthy people would say who provides the jobs? and others would reply saying we do! and thinks it is fine. The only reason why the poor are offered jobs is that the so called wealthy people are too lazy to do the work. The phrase the rich get richer and the poor get poorer is very accurate in the US today. I believe that Paine s beliefs in 1791 and views would change if he lived in 2018. I am a firm believer that people are judged more on money than any other aspects of life. Some of the most successful people today have ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Reflection On The Treatment Of Prisoners Our society tends to jump to conclusions and make assumptions of prisoners. Despite what they have committed and how severe it may be they are still human. We look at them as if they are inhumane because they are in prison. They still deserve some of the rights that they had before being convicted. I m not saying that I am okay with the crimes they have committed but I am okay with them having a little more of their basic rights. I think the treatment of prisoners should also be reconsidered. I think that they deserve more time outside of their cells. Inmates only get a certain amount of time outside which I think is entirely unfair. I also think that their visitation rights should be reconsidered. As of right now they are only aloud to talk to their visitors over a telephone. What if they have been in prison for years? I think they should get to physically visit with their visitors and not just talk over a phone. Prisoners do have the constitutional right to enjoy contact visits and I think that this should be reconsidered and changed. Prisoners do not get to choose the work that they are permitted to. I also think this is unfair and they should be able to pick what they do for work. In doing so, this will solve some of the problems of prisoners acting out and will result in less cruel punishment of prisoners. There are things that can be changed that will solve a lot of the issues that guards may have with the prisoners. Prisoners are not allowed to do many things. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

While there are numerous issues currently being advertised about in the media, there is only one issue that I feel is most spoken about, that should not be. That issue is immigration. While Hillary Clinton feels that immigrants should be able to stay in the U.S., Donald Trump is a massive supporter of sending back any immigrants, especially Mexicans, to their birthplaces. Technology In War Research Paper Technology at times have been referred to as inventions which create values for human beings and help them in living a better lifestyle, but no one would have ever thought technology would have even played an important role in war. The way wars are conducted have changed leaps and bounds from early 1800s to modern days. Industrial revolution and technologies have transformed how the warfare is conducted. Although technology might have helped opponents of the war to showcase their strengths during warfare and win wars, however certain reforms used in warfare had its effects (positive or negative) on the civilian citizens too. The armies have come a long way since they fought with spears, bows and arrows. Undoubtedly, the greatest technological reform came in the field artillery. (WORLD HISTORY OF WARFARE Archer, Christon I., 1940 ; Ferris, John Robert, 1956 ; Herwig, Holger H.; Travers, Timothy., c2002. Armed forces are one of biggest resource used in warfare and weapons are their tools provided, to help maneuver them in the fields. These weapons are designed to make maximum impact on enemies in terms of harm or kill or making them disabled, so that infantry soldiers can make inroads to enemy s territory. Technological advancement in weapons is just not only attributed to change in physical form of weapon, but there is lot of physics, chemistry, mechanics are involved in development of weapons. Previously, guns had been cast in individual molds and hence been much too heavy to drag across battlefields. Starting in eighteen century and until World War 1 various types of artillery guns were developed and used in war, however each one of these had their limitations. For example, prior to World War 1, Gatling gun was the most popular automatic rapid fire weapon, however it was quite heavy which limited its use in warfare. Later British developed Vickers gun, however it required six man team to operate his gun. Subsequently Americans invented Lewis gun, an automatic machine gun. This gun was gas powered and just weighted 28lbs. It could fire 500 600 rounds per minute with maximum muzzle velocity of 2,440 feet per seconds. The Apology Of Socrates The Apology of Socrates is a Plato s version of speeches given by Socrates who was accused for two main reasons: the corruption of the youth and impiety (not believing in gods in whom the city believes). In the Apology Socrates tries to defend himself and his actions but not to apologize for it. He insisted that he must be wiser than others because he knows and recognizes that knows nothing. The Apology by Plato shows that there is a great influence of Socrates in searching for the truth about humanity and society even when his attempt contradicted with the opinions of the many . At first, he refers to the older charges and his first accusers, and secondly he replies to the accusations made by Meletus, Anytus, and Lycon. He was afraid of the older accusers most of all and the reason behind this dread was that his accusers were many and he couldn t call them all by name. These accusers falsely claims can be summed up in the following words: Socrates is an evil doer, and a curious person, who searches into things under the earth and in heaven, and he makes the worse appear the better cause; and he teaches the aforesaid doctrines to others. He responses to these falsehoods by arguing that he has nothing to do with the physical sciences nor is he paid for giving instruction he has nothing to teach. He then goes on to explain how he gained such a bad reputation. The impetuous Chaerephon had gone to Delphi and asked the oracle if there was any man wiser than Socrates; and the answer was, that there was no man wiser. • 17. Humans Were Hunters And Gatherers Prehistorically, we find that humans were hunters and gatherers. They would hunt animals for the meat and they would gather fruits and vegetables that were grown naturally for their food. After some time, people discovered that they could do agriculture instead and doing that greatly increased the amount of food that people could grow and store. Agriculture changed everything with regards to how the human society was built. This was because when the people would forage, there was no way for them to store the food for a long time, as the meat would and the fruits/vegetables would go bad if it was left out in the open for extended amounts of time. This meant that they had to be hunting and gathering throughout the year, meaning that most of their lives and time would be spent looking for food. However, with agriculture, came a boom with regards to food production. People had more food that they could store and eat anytime. This gave way to people having more time on their hands, which meant they could pursue other aspects of the society, such as politics and art. In this regard we find that the foraging societies were much more egalitarian compared to agricultural societies. Many people have sought to answer the question why such foraging societies tended to be more egalitarian. It has to be noted that during the twentieth century, anthropologists found and were able to study many different hunter gatherer societies in the modern world that lived in the more remote parts of ... • 20. Art Movement After World War I According to the Visual Art Encyclopedia, Surrealism sprang up in Paris and became rooted in the avant garde art world. Surrealism was the fashionable art movement after World War I. Surrealism is and the last major art movement to be associated with the Ecole de Paris. The writer Andre Breton (1896 1966), nicknamed the Pope of Surrealism , was the movement s founder and chief theorist. He introduced and defined the new style in his initial 1924 manifesto (Manifeste du Surrealisme) and later in his painting bulletin (Surrealisme et la Peinture). Breton deplored the radical and destructive character of Dada, nevertheless he built on many Dada ideas to create a movement with a coherent though unbending philosophy. He aimed at nothing less than a total conversion of the way people thought. Surrealism was less overtly political and advocated a more positive philosophy. The main focus of the surrealism movement was literature but this rapidly broadened to painting, sculpture and other forms of contemporary visual art. Surrealist strived to bring forward the imagery of the unconscious mind. Surrealist philosophy believed that nongovernmental and irrational art were preferable for life and civilization. Surrealism was responsible for a host of incredibly innovative but strange art. Surrealism was meant to free the unconscious mind from reason. To determine the meaning of the word nigger it is crucial to look deeply at the scenario because it can be used in so many ways for so many reasons. The two biggest things to consider when determining the true meaning of the word is to recognize who is using the word and who exactly the word is being targeted towards; but failing to recognize other factors also help when determining the connotation. Criminal Behavior And Its Effects On The Crime Criminals convicted of sexual offences such as rape and molestation often receive sentences that are not severe enough to account for their crime. These lax sentences are due to the fact that rape has had ambiguous definitions in the past portions of the blame are shifted onto the victim or considered out of the offender s control and the offender s behaviour outside of the crime tend to impact the severity of their punishment. A contemporary example of this is Brock Turner, convicted sexual offender of Stanford University. Differential Association states that criminal behaviour is learned from intimate associates, like Turner s swim team friends. In this story, Dahl shows that Billy should trust his instincts when something seems off, otherwise something awful might end up happening to him. The first red flag happens in the beginning of the story. Although it may not stand out as particularly important or atrocious, when combined with other minor, almost negligible events that happen it is definitely worth noticing. Dahl writes, Normally you ring the bell and you have at least a half minutes wait before the door opens. But this dame was a like a jack in the box.
