Hope In Elie Wiesel s Night
This section of the book proved to be one of the most suspenseful and thrilling parts of Nyiszli s
nightmare. I didn t expect him to survive, but at the same time, how would he write this book? I
worried for the doctor because I knew the outlook of his future would be bleak. He would come home
without his wife or child. Without any money, he would not be able to afford anything back at home.
With his home probably destroyed from the war, he would not have anything to come back to.
Survival was meaningless to him, but he still continued to push through the adversity. All in all, I
enjoyed the ending. I was not expecting him to be so happy at the end. In fact, I thought he would
spend the rest of his days and sadness, but with hope, miracles can happen.
I am actually quite shocked the Dr. Nyiszli survived after the fall of Auschwitz. despite the cold
weather, the unrelenting march, and the little food and sleep, he able to defy all odds and survive.
Unfortunately, his friends would all perish after the madness of the crematoriums and the forced
march. He would survive two concentration camps for months and keep pushing himself until his
freedom. He could have easily given up. He did not have any family or friends. He had witnessed
what no man should have witnessed, and he had no ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even though they were found, it does not mean the months of suffering they faced would end. They
still had memories of the horrors they witnessed in Auschwitz. The majority of the victims were
starving and sick, and their life was already coming to an end. The ones who survived did not have
much to look forward to after their time in the camp. It is a depressing thought that most fully recover
physically and mentally from this. I understand why; there were way too many awful events that
plagued a camp that sole purpose was to kill all the undesirable people. Most were not as lucky as Dr.
Nyiszli, and that is a heavy thought to

Essay on The Cmapion Land Deal
The Cmapion Land Deal
The acquisition of the so called former Champion lands resulted from one of the most complicated
land deals in Vermont history. The Champion Lands in Vermont were part of a larger deal involving
almost 300,000 arces in New York, New Hampshire as well as Vermont. The specifics of how the
property was transferred to the current owners are relevant because in some cases the provisions of the
transfer mandate certain types of management or constrain management in other ways.
On October 8, 1997, Champion International Inc. announced its intention to sell approximately
200,000 acres in the Northern Forest. Champion, and the St. Regis Paper Company before it, had
owned these lands for decades, and during the last ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An important part of this model was to divide the Champion lands into separate but complementary
ownerships on the basis of ecological values and basic management purposes: areas with the greatest
ecological significance would be publicly owned and protected, with timber harvesting precluded on
substantial acreages to allow natural processes like forest succession to occur unimpeded; and the
most productive timber lands, with fewer special ecological values, would be kept in private
ownership with a requirement that they be managed for long term sustainable forestry. Public access
for a variety of historic uses and other activities would be guaranteed on the entirety of the property.
When the possibility of acquiring the Champion lands had first arisen, the Vermont Agency of Natural
Resources requested that TNC lead a process to identify the most ecologically significant portions of
those lands. VANR, TNC, TCF and the other partners in the acquisition used the results of that
analysis to determine which parts of the overall property should be publicly owned either by the State
of Vermont or the federal government, and which should remain under private ownership as a working
forest. Ultimately, the VANR acquired more than 22,000 acres of land south of Route 105 that now
comprise the West Mountain WMA, and the USFWS acquired 26,000 acres encompassing much of
the Nulhegan Basin north of Route 105 as part of the Silvio O. Conte National Fish and Wildlife
Refuge.The

Essay about Dangers of Buying Bottled Water
Water
Consider bottled water, have you ever wondered why you bring yourself to spend two to five dollars
on a simple bottle of water? Water is one our earth s very resources, should it be legal to have to
purchase water at all? Wouldn t you consider water a human right? According to TIME, Nestle makes
$2.2 billion a year off of bottled water. This company and many like it are taking groundwater from
local communities at little to no cost, and selling it at inflated prices as purified water. In the state of
Michigan, citizens are protesting the outflow of water. They are claiming that groundwater levels are
dangerously dropping and becoming unhealthy. When groundwater begins to drop to an unhealthy
level that community must begin ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Peter cook, executive director of NAWC (National Association of Water Companies) says, Water
should be priced at the cost to provide it and subsidized for those who can t afford it . In light of this
statement I wonder if water should be allowed to be used as a money maker in the first place. TIME
states that brands such as Dasani and Aquafina made $1.9 million last year for the two companies. I
find it shocking that there are luxury brands of water such as, Vanleer and Tennessee sold at an
estimated $240.00 a case. Jyoti Thottam, a TIME writer and editor claims, Water can cost as much as
wine Seventy years ago the thought of buying water was absurd. Now, according to the NAWC, in the
US 33.5 million Americans get their drinking water from privately owned utilities that make up about
sixteen percent of the nation s community water system.
It is scary to face the fact that water, a basic human need, is being taken away with little fight. Yet, has
there ever been a right to water? Places like Canada and Tibet are two of the most water rich places on
earth. Leaving places like China, whose rising economic success has lead to polluted rivers and low
supplies of clean water, to begin to build nearly 200 miles of canals to divert water from the
Himalayan plateau to China s parched Yellow River. Dr. Gleick says, They don t want to risk any loss

The, Fun Home, By Alison Bechdel Essay
Intertextuality troubles the definition of autobiography in Alison Bechdel s Fun Home. Fun Home is a
retelling of Alison Bechdel s life through the lens of her relationship with her father. However,
because of what she considers to have been his suicide, Alison is left with an incomplete picture of
who he was in life. By calling Fun Home an autobiography, Bechdel enters an autobiographical pact
with the reader that ensures that what Bechdel is telling us is the truth. However, elements out of her
control leave Bechdel unable to provide certain objective facts necessary to her narrative. As an
attempt to remedy these absences and in turn maintain the validity of her story, Bechdel uses
intertextuality to fill in the gaps of in her retelling. By overlaying masterplots of fictional narratives
over her own, the reader is able to get at an understanding of the kind of person Alison s father was. In
this way Bechdel is able to reveal things about her father that she can t prove to be true, but are
reflective enough of his life to become true. Although only referred to as autobiography in paratext,
Fun Home falls under the umbrella of narrative non fiction because it tells a true story. Abbott
reinforces this in The Cambridge Introduction to Narrative, stating that ...narrative non fiction differs
from narrative fiction in its referential function. We expect it to convey as best it can the truth of actual
events. (146). This expectation means that when a narrative is presented

Samsung Phone Assignment
WEEK 4 WRITING ASSIGNMENT
SAMSUNG SMART PHONE
MRKT 310 JAMIE RICE 11/19/2017
Part 1 Consumer Behavior: How People Make Buying Decisions
1. Two of the most important environmental factors I think are relevant to the customers of the
Samsung phone are price and social (Principles of Marketing, 2015). Price is a major factor for
potential consumers. Many people will not purchase a Samsung phone if the price is out of their
budget. There are various models at various pricing available, however, there are also other companies
that offer a phone with just as many features, for a lower price (ex. HTC). Many potential consumers
will not purchase a phone the same day their research begins. There is a lot of comparing and
evaluation that takes place. The price is controlled by the marketer, however the reason buyers make
their decision is not controlled by the marketer (Principles of Marketing, 2015). The social aspect is
also an important factor. Many people use their cell phone as a primary source of communication.
Their choice to purchase the Samsung phone could majorly rely on whether or not many of their
friends have that make/model. There are also many additional features phones have if two or more
people have the same phone (video chatting, similar apps that allow texting to be quicker and more
efficient). If communicating with friends/family is a priority, this could mean a make or break for
purchasing the Samsung phone.

What Are Some Ethical Challenges In Corporate Governance
Corporate Governance Benchmarking
Businesses in today s society must be aggressive and competitive to meet the demands of consumers.
The corporate culture must be one of shared beliefs with expectations and values that influence and
guide the thinking of individuals in a positive and ethical manner. As each organization s success
depends on profitability and productivity, the magnitude of success or failure can be controlled by a
few bad apples within the organization. Organizations capable of misleading, cheating and fraud have
been highly frowned upon through the collapse or disarray of many organizations.
Team A will provide a brief synopsis of specific organizations experiencing unethical challenges and

HP management faced charges of unethical activates such as using unlawful and unethical techniques
to monitor HP reporters and directors leading the HP director Patrician Dunn to admit defeat to the
courts (MARKETLINE, 2006). HP Patricia Dunn responded to the issue by surrendering herself to the
law, but the outcome was a dismissal. HP continues to be successful, but the leaders should define the
roles of management in corporate governance by communicating. MFSI is similar to HP s unethical
practices of running the organization through lack of effective communication. According to Chew
and Gillian (2005), Incentive plans often fail to achieve credibility because they are not explained
adequately. Uncertainty creates doubt, and doubt undermines success (Chap. 20, p. 5). MFSI should
benchmark HP to learn to identify the seriousness of unethical practices, and think twice before
implementing an unlawful method. The CEO of MFSI does not like anyone to control the companies
investing options, and therefore is directing other staff members to conduct unethical activities
associated with the hiring of directors. However, MFSI does fall under the guidelines of the SOX.
According to Chew and Gillian (2005), SOX mandated changes that will affect executive
compensation, shareholder monitoring, and, particularly, board monitoring (Chap. 6, p. 8). The CEO
Hugh McBride should improve focus and arrive at the right measure by strengthening his corporate
plan. HP

The Inferiority Complex Placed Upon The Subaltern
The inferiority complex placed upon the subaltern is adverse, calamitous, and destructive. The
subalterns are and have been alienated, isolated, marginalized, and outed from the hegemonic forces.
They are distinguished as that of a lower class, inferior, and they do not have a voice in the world
because they are outside of the hegemonic class; they are not able to tell their side of history. To be
colonized is to be removed from history, except in the most passive sense. In the world today, the
reason why that we rarely hear from the subalterns is because their voice is viewed as inferior, they
have assimilated into the colonial power s culture, and loss of personal identity. However, from
becoming aware about African intellectuals, such as Frantz Fanon, and historical references to the
conscious development of racial constructs will allow people to view the static images of subalterns in
films in a different light; a light of awareness and outrage. It helps to give the subaltern a chance to tell
his or her side of history and it results in talk about race in the world. In Frantz Fanon s book, Black
Skin, White Mask, it expounds that films, from the subaltern s point of view, help to create is
discourse about race relations in the Unites States and the world alike through allowing the view to
think differently, express sympathy for the subaltern, and give as to why we rarely hear from the
subaltern.
It is rare that we hear from subalterns in the world nowadays; this is

Romanticism And Realism In The Boarded Window By Ambrose...
The beautiful iridescent blue Morpho butterfly has survived in the deep tropical forest due to its
underside resembling the big eyes of a predator. Blue Morphos appear to have a supernatural ability to
portray themselves as something they are not. Their indistinguishable differences trick the senses of
the enemy. Close examination of their large brown scary predator eyes show they are ordinary simple
butterflies. There is also a similar misunderstanding in the short story by Ambrose Bierce. When
looking close the story becomes clear. After considering both the slice of the life of Realism and the
supernatural of Romanticism movement, the short story The Boarded Window by Ambrose Bierce is
an example of Realism because it shows a life of a uneducated ordinary man. Realism comes closer to
understanding the life of an uneducated ordinary man because it shows a slice of what real life was
like on the frontier. Murlock lived in a simple log house made with one door and one window. The
latter, however, was boarded up nobody could remember a time when it was not. Very few people
knew the secret of the window, or the particulars of the burden the man bore. The grandfather had
lived nearby and relayed the story firsthand of the story behind the uneducated ordinary man s life.
Bierce portrays this actual life of this ordinary man that shows life as it is, with Murlock s ups and
downs, that sometimes he had to shut out the things that could harm him. Suddenly the table shook
beneath his arms, and at the same moment he heard, or fancied that he heard, a light soft step another

three days. He laid her onto the table to attempted to prepare her her body for burial. He methodically
dad what he thought was the order of natural laws. He performed the finishing touches adjusting her
hair. Exhausted, he laid his head on the table and drifted. The author presents this authentic real
situation of a unschooled man that had to face typical fearful days out in the wilderness. Although
some people on the other hand see the story as Realism. Romantic and comes closer to understanding

An adaptation of the crab eating fox is having short and unvaluable fur. Every crab eating fox is born
with this specific type of fur making this adaptation physical. Having short, unvalued fur is beneficial
to the crab eating fox, because hunters are not looking for their fur so they will not become extinct and
lose population. Another adaptation of the crab eating fox is that they hunt by scent, digging, and
catching their prey. This adaptation would be behavioral, because hunting is a learned skill taught
from their parents over a period of time. This technique is helpful to the crab eating fox, because they
have more than one tactic to search and catch their prey. This adaptation also means that the crab
eating fox has more than one prey, because of having many different ways to catch their victim. The
crab eating fox forms stable, monogamous pair bonds meaning both parents assist in guarding and
caring for their pups. This is a behavioral adaptation, learned from experience and observing their
parents. This is beneficial to the cerdocyon thous species, because the pups have a higher chance of
survival and future reproduction meaning the species will not become extinct. The crab eating fox is a
nocturnal animal that hunts for prey during the night. This adaptation is behavioral from observing
other members of the species and being learned from their parents. Being a nocturnal animal is
beneficial to the crab eating fox, because they are able to hunt on diurnal victims as an easy prey. All
crab eating fox have a very specific coloration of fur. Their fur can range from a pale gray to a dark
brown with yellowish brown or black pigmentations. This is a physical adaptation with every crab
eating fox being born with this specific fur. With fur in this coloration it is possible for the crab eating

Juvenile Delinquency in the 1950s
Why did juvenile delinquency occur in the 1950s and what precautions were taken to prevent it?
(Project Summary)
This project will focus on the British criminal justice system in the 1950s regarding juvenile
behaviour. The research will explore the ways used to prevent juvenile crime, the social and
psychological motivation for crime, and the way that the criminal justice system aimed to rehabilitate
those convicted of a juvenile offence. To explore these areas an understanding of delinquency, and its
consequences is needed. According to Wirt and Briggs delinquency involves personal suffering as well
as a loss to society. 1 This suggests that juveniles are not mindfully delinquent as their actions have

Modern Records Centre Practicalities
On Wednesday 6th March I contacted the Modern Records Centre via e mail regarding the documents
I would like to view. I found this relatively straight forward with the pre prepared catalogue for the
making history project and the database section on juvenile delinquents in the 1950s. I asked to see ten
files that I later discovered contained various documents. This made my task a little harder as there
was more material to read. However, in hindsight this helped to gain an overview for the task ahead. I
photographed the documents most relevant to my research for further analysis at home, whilst
considering maintaining a balance of newspaper articles, photographs and texts. Practically this
enabled me to progress with the project without being restricted to the Modern Records Centre. I also
gave great importance to recording the origin of any information, making a note of the reference codes
for consideration later within the project.
I now feel more confident using archives and I would be comfortable pursuing future research with
the involvement of the archive.

The Influence Of Music Education
The Influence of Music Education on Our Modernised Day
Music education is the study associated with the teaching and learning of music. It includes the
appreciation and sensitivity of music which helps in the development of the affective domain. The
involvement of music is a fundamental component to human s behaviour and culture. Today, many
country provide music education from preschool through postsecondary as the result of music
education have brought many benefits in a way such as the children s concentration, their logic and
problem solving skills, their communication, their emotional intelligence and their cultural
understanding. (Hermann Hudde) Music education had been playing an important role in building the
interpersonal and intrapersonal ability of oneself.
According to the research of Eva Brand and Ora Bar Gil, learning music carry side benefits to us, one
of these is the potential to enhanced interpersonal abilities through listening activities. Listening is a
core skill that may increase the interpersonal effectiveness of individuals and communication. It is a

Corporal Punishment Psychology
For centuries the use of corporal punishment has been an accepted form of discipline worldwide and
was seen as an appropriate way of eliciting behavioral compliance that was conceptually distinct from
physical abuse (Durrant Ensom, 2012, p. 1373). The last 20 years, however, there has been a dramatic
shift in this ideal among the international community. The early 1990 s ushered in numerous research
studies that suggested a negative correlation between the use of corporal punishment and emotional,
mental, and developmental issues in children (Durrant Ensom, 2012). Studies have also indicated that
the higher number of instances of violence perpetrated on children in the form of corporal punishment,
the higher the levels of adult violence. They also suggest that the frequent use of corporal punishment,
not only leads to child aggression but also delinquency and criminality. There are also indications that
societies who view corporal punishment is relatively normative, more accepting ... Show more content

The ultra dense remnants of the imploding core which are lefts behinds are known as a neutron star, as

inside a newly formed neutron star is from around 1011 to 1012 kelvin. However, the huge number of

The Effect Of Light And Total Respiration Of The Plant...
Intro:
For all living organisms including plants, respiration is the process of converting chemical energy into
a usable form of energy (Biol 171L Lab 7). Even if an organism does not have an energy source, they
will keep respiring. For autotrophic plants, the process of obtaining energy is called photosynthesis. It
harvests solar energy, carbon dioxide, and water to form a usable form of energy (Tanaka 2009). The
factors that go into this process includes the pigment the plant possesses, and the intensity,
wavelength, and direction of the light. Plants that contain the pigment chlorophyll a are the ones we
see as the leaves of common trees, or grass.
Because chlorophyll a takes in violet blue, and orange red lights to use in photosynthesis, it reflects
green, and that is the color we see. This study investigates the relationship between the wavelength of
light and the total respiration of the plant Elodea. The purpose is to see the effect of the presence or
absence of certain wavelengths can have on the process of photosynthesis. Because Elodea is a plant
that reflects green light, it can be assumed that red lights, the complimentary color to green will be
absorbed the most contributing to the process of photosynthesis and respiration making the most
oxygen.

Classical Elements Of The Military Essay
Classical elements of our military are organizational structure, principles of organizational reward, the
machine metaphor, and the theory of bureaucracy. Many theories of management have military
backgrounds that date back to the beginning of history to Alexander the Great, Julius Caesar, and
Napoleon. All of these leaders became successful through their efficiency to lead, line of command,
unity, and division of work. The United States Military is divided into five branches of service. The
Army is the the oldest branch of the military, and focuses on defending the country and is the main
fighting force of the military. The Air Force works with the Army and is in charge of all of the
satellites and nuclear missiles. The Navy ensures equal freedom in the oceans around the world, and
protects the interests of our nation to be free. Marine Corps are the first ones to battle, and are
responsible for delivering tasks on ground, sea, and in the air. The Coast Guard is responsible for
boating safety and rescue, law enforcement, and controlling illegal immigration (Hewes 2005). These
are the building blocks behind the reason why our military is so successful and powerful. In 1775,
before our nation was established as a Country, colonists were organized into miscellaneous militias
with no distinct structure or organization of a unified hierarchy. George Washington recognized the
missing piece to the puzzle, and how the Continental Army would conquer and win the Revolutionary
War.

The Four Phases Of Photogrammetry
The development of photogrammetry clearly depends on the general development of science and
technology. It is interesting to note that the four major phases of photogrammetry are directly related
to the technological inventions of photography, airplanes, computers and electronics. Figure below
depicts the four generations of photogrammetry. Photogrammetry had its beginning with the invention
of photography by Daguerre and Niepce in 1839.The first generation, from the middle to the end of
last century, was very much a pioneering and experimental phase with remarkable achievements in
terrestrial and balloon photogrammetry. The second generation, usually referred to as analog
photogrammetry, is characterized by the invention of stereo photogrammetry ... Show more content on

It has a simple principle but still has a huge influence on current architectural works. The simple
procedure is that it takes input from photography which is a 2D representation of 3D objects and then

on location of camera, photogrammetry can be of two types:
i. Aerial Photogrammetry
The camera is placed in an aircraft in Aerial Photogrammetry and it is vertically pointed with respect
to ground. Several overlapping photos are taken as aircraft flies of the area which had to be studied.
Remotely taken photos are than processed in stereo plotter which is an instrument that allows seeing
two photos at once to an operator in a stereo view. For creation of Digital Elevation Model (DEM),
these photos are used in automatic processing. Aerial photogrammetry is mainly used to produce large
scale topographical or thematical maps and Digital Terrain Models (DTM), representing the terrain

Dream Should Be Seen As A Prophecy
Dreaming is something that everyone does, even if you don t remember it. Throughout history there
have been many theories about dreams. One of them was that dream should be seen as a message
coming from outside individual, mostly from God like creatures. And another theory is that dream
should be seen as a prophecy, being able to tell us what awaits for us in the future. These theories are
prescientific so today we don t view dreams this way. Freud then came along and proposed that
dreams reflect a conflict between the unconscious desires and the conscious mind. So, dreams are
mostly an expression of unconscious wishes as well as being sleep preserving (Olsen, 2016, p. 159).
Despite all these theories of what dreams are, what is the actual reason we have dreams, why do we
remember some and forget some, and what are lucid dreams?
What Causes Dreaming In the 1970s, a man named John Hobson developed a theory called the
activation synthesis theory. It explain that dreams are fabricated by the cortex as a means of
interpreting chaotic signals from the pond. In other words dreams have no meaning and they are
merely a result of a random chemical messaging in the brain coming from the brainstem. (Olsen,
2016, p. 159). However, a man named Mark Solms later disprove the activation synthesis theory
showing that even in patients who have damaged their brain stems, they still have dreams. So it ruled
out Hobson s hypothesis that dreams originate from the brain stem. Rapid eye

The Effects Of History And Social Structures On Our Lives...
Experiences play a vital role on who we are as a person, more importantly the memories that we ve
had as children stick with us for the rest of our lives. They help structure and model us into a person
that will eventually do extraordinary things that will affect others around us. In first world countries
most experiences as a child are generally the same for everyone because they live in a safe shielded
environment that protects them anything bad that could happen but, children growing up in third
world countries face horrible experiences that can cost them their lives but they believe is the norm.
Through my primary research I have discovered that history and social structures have had a great
impact on my personal life than ever imagined having to growing up in a third world country. After
developing my secondary research, the information I collected is proof of events that have ultimately
lead to factors of my development from an infant to who I am as a person today. Throughout my life
there were different historical events occurring at the time in my home country and my future country
that unfolded to shape and model my life to make me the person that I am today. I am able to identify
specific events that separately correspond to the process of coming to Canada before while residing in
my home country, during the immigration process to come here, and after arriving in Canada. In this

Poor memory, lack of concentration, and inability to focus have become such common complaints,
they re practically considered normal . Despite the fact that we re living in the 21st century, where

This is why the science of nootropics (brain health supplements) is slowly gaining in popularity. Any

Willy s Loneliness and Alienation in Death of a Salesman
Willy Loman s feelings of alienation and loneliness are direct psychological results of his interaction
with society and the conditions that are found within it. Although, he does not necessarily have the
ability or allow himself to have the ability to define his feelings as such, they are still very much a part
of his everyday existence. This is evident in his constant bragging and attempted compensation. He
does not feel that he is truly a part of society. Indeed, he is not. Miller himself seems to be saying that
this is not necessarily a bad thing; this society is not that wonderful. Yet Willy still yearns to be like

Even the things he dreams of having for himself and for his family are shallow. He will never find
relief from his search because even if he reaches his goals of modest financial success he would still
be left wanting.
Willy s life teeters between these petty concrete objects and his grandiose verbal projections. In past,
present, and fantasy, Willy expresses himself through clichés and repetitions in a formulaic chant.
However, he achieves neither popularity nor success as a salesman, and he fails as a gardener,
mechanic, husband, father. (Martin 67)
He cannot even achieve small goals. He has no real feeling of self worth, and this lack of self
confidence is reinforced by society and Biff s discovery of Willy s infidelity.
In speaking about his plays, Miller explained, It is necessary, if one is to reflect reality, not only to
depict why a man does what he does, or why he nearly didn t do it, but why he cannot simply walk
away and say to hell with it (Eight ix). In the case of Death of a Salesman, it is Willy s desperate hope
of success that keeps him from committing suicide for so long. Eventually, however, he gives in to his
feelings of depression and ends his life. It is the only viable solution he sees at this point. In another

Negative Effects Of Bullying
I. Introduction: Mistreatment and intimidation are common occurrences within childhood and
adolescent peer groups. These actions can be detrimental to the social relationships of those involved,
leaving an enduring impact on one s ability to socialize and interact with those around them. Due to
the severity of the potential harm bullying can cause, much research has been conducted on how
bullying can influence the lives and actions of those associated with it. In order to address the issue of
bullying, one must first understand not only the impact it may have, but the factors that influence how
those involved are affected. These factors include the role one plays in the bullying, the method
through which the bullying occurs, and the gender of the victim. This research has demonstrated how
complex the relationship between victims of bullying and their fellow peers can be, as well as how
damaging this phenomena is on those who experience it.
II. First Theme: The negative effects of bullying extent beyond the individual targeted, leaving a
lasting impact on all parties involved.
1. First Point: Though bullying has a significant impact on victim themselves, it also affects the social
relationships of both the aggressor and of any student who witnesses events (Pouwels, 2016; You,
2016).

I Was Snow On The Ground And Snowflakes Covering My Window
Essay 1
There was snow on the ground and snowflakes covering my window. The trees were left bare and
shivering. What was it that had brought me here? For all my life I had lived in California, in the center
of urban life, and now I was living on the east coast, near no major city and inside miles of woods. It
was my parents ambition that brought us to Pennsylvania. They hoped moving would give us a better
life, one where my father would not be away from the family weeks at a time, traveling around the
world for business.
Despite our hopes, my father s work once again became very stressful and my mother faced racism
and prejudice. Workers refused to return her calls because of her accent, while they would promptly
respond when my father, with his American accent called. A cafe in town treated customers unequally
based upon their origin and wealth. And the first question a new person asked us was where we lived;
either we qualified to be friends with them or not.
However, my family s history assured us that we could find happiness in our new home. As a child,
my grandparents sent my mother from Iran to America to give her a better life. Her relatives were also
sent away, causing me to have family all over the globe. I have visited family in Rome, France,
Singapore, and all across the US. Seeing them working as biologists, writers, physicist, and artists has
shown me that anything is possible and that passion in my work would help me through any
hardships. So, I took

Egyptian Devil Disease
Tasmanian Devils are small marsupials that possess rat like features such as sharp teeth, black or
brown fur and are roughly 20 to 31 inches tall. These creatures possess poor temperament, growling,
baring teeth and lunging when provoked or under threat. Because of their aggressive behavior, they
are solitary creatures, only interacting with one another during the mating seasons of March. They
give birth to up to 20 young during this time, however the female as only four teats, meaning only four
of the imps can survive. The general lifespan of a Tasmanian devil is 5 6 years, and within that time
the devils feed on birds, snakes, fish and carrion (quite often road kill on roads). They live in small

Many scientists have expressed their own opinions, but none have been found to be officially accurate
on the matter. Many researchers including A M Pearse, K.Swift, after much research, came to the
conclusion that DFTD spread through Allograft, the means of cancerous cells spread from one animal
to another through physical interactions such as biting, fighting or mating. This process of spreading is
much like that of a transplant, and once the cancer cell has entered the devil s body, it develops the
mechanism to go through and resist the attacks of the immune system. For this particular reason, a
proper vaccine as not been discovered yet and the Tasmania devils have no actual cure to save them
from this widespread disease. The Allograft theory has not been confirmed to be the case yet as it does
not apply to the rules of normal cancerous cells and diseases sparked from those cells. However, once
more information regarding this cancerous disease has been established, scientists can work towards
finding some form of medical treatment for the devils. Having said that, more scientific mechanisms
to save the devils has been proposed, including one of which may be what saves the Tasmanian
Devils. In recent years, an authorized project known as the Maria Island Devil Translocation has taken
place, and already has produced results and statistics that look promising for the Tasmanian Devil s
species. The Maria Island project, which started in 2012, is a rehabilitation program that selects both
wild and captive devils and places them on Maria Island, a small island located off to the east of
Tasmania. Maria Island is a land free of DFTD due to Tasmanian devils not being a

How Did Mark Twain Influence Today
From the 17th Century to the 21st century America went through many changes. First starting out as
small colonies and expanding into the powerhouse of today. Through all the changes from farming to
industrialism, there were many that took the time to write about all the problems and frustrations. This
is now what we call American Literature. Though many authors had their thoughts and ideas of how
literature should be done, the one that is looked at having the most influence still today is Mark Twain.

There were others that Twain wrote with the same style and realism, but the one that is most famous is
The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. This book combined the character from the first book Tom with
Huck and brought in a third whom was a negro named Jim. This was a book that tiptoed on the line to
be about race, when all Huck wanted to do was free Jim. Many of Twains books became best sellers
but in 1935 it was Ernest Hemingway who said All modern American literature comes from one book
called Huckleberry Finn This statement along with the way Twain spoke about issues like slavery,
religion and racism inspired other writers like Hemingway and Bellow to put more of their personal
experiences into their work. That Novel in itself about a boy who helped a Negro was the influence for
many other to begin the way to tell a story from a different perspective. This book is still being read

of irony and satire and really turned the heads of the literary world. The talk about realism and

Critical Evaluation Of Critical Analysis Essay
As described by Crowe and O Malley (2006) Critical reflection is the central element that is required
for critical thinking. This process that combines theory with practice facilitates a reasoning to put into
practices, to meet the consumer s needs of mental health services. Hypothetically critical analysis
enables mental health nurses to challenge their own assumptions, values and beliefs, when sharing
their own knowledge and understandings when interfaced with the cultural norms of their clinical

The aim of this assignment is to critically reflect on a consumer when forming and maintaining a

Holistic And Holistic Nursing Care Essay
Holistic Nursing Care Norma Valdez Rosa South University Online Complementary Alternative
Methods Introduction Holistic nursing is defined as all nursing practice that has healing the whole
person as its goal (Dossey, 2012). Holistic nursing does not replace medicinal practice; rather, it
incorporates the whole patient into the nursing care plan with the outcome being that of a healthier
patient. Holistic Nurse Self Care is the most important core value of the Holistic Nursing Care
standards because of the importance of nurse self care to the delivery of quality patient care. In order
to be able to meet all the needs of the patient, a nurse needs to be prepared in mind, body and spirit.
Holistic Nurse Self Care The Holistic Nursing Care standards are based on five core values: holistic
philosophy and education; holistic ethics, theories and research; holistic nurse self care; holistic
communication, therapeutic environment and cultural competence; and holistic caring process. In my
opinion, Holistic Nurse Self Care ranks as the most important value that should be incorporated into
the Holistic nurse s practice. As a nurse, I feel that nurses have to take care of themselves in order to
be able to take care of their patients and deliver high quality care to them. Self care and self awareness
are important to prevent nurse burnout which can lead to depression, anger, feelings of incompetence,

The Gun Show Loophole
Since the Brady Act was introduced in 1998, we know that there have been approximately two
hundred and thirty million background screenings done to date. However, imagine how many more
could have been completed if the right laws were in place for unlicensed dealers. The laws that are in
place today are lacking at best, therefore a major issue with purchasing these firearms happen at gun
shows, which is also known as the gun show loophole. In an article, written by Mark Duggan of the
MIT Press, states that THOUSANDS of gun shows take place in the United States each year. Gun
control advocates argue that the gun show loophole makes it easier for potential criminals to obtain a
gun; the loophole basically allows unlicensed vendors at gun shows to sell firearms without
conducting background checks on purchasers. (Duggan) A twenty one year old cannot even walk into
a bar or a liquor store and purchase alcohol without the proper identification, nevertheless someone
with a known criminal background or a person with a history of mental illness can walk straight into a
gun show and purchase deadly weapons without even flashing an identification card, but per our
government laws, that s completely legal.
Gun lobbyist continue to stand by their gun shows though, they cite a U.S. Bureau of Justice Statistics
survey that found that 0.7% of state prison inmates that have ever owned a gun reported that they
obtained it at a gun show. (Duggan) The lobbyist main argument is that,

There was a need for the people to gather like this because Marcos famous implementation of Martial
Law led to the deaths of several thousands of Filipinos. This regulation suspended several of the rights
of the Filipinos and granted Marcos the free use of military power, which he did, against any who

one may get the opportunity he/she is asking for through the resistance formed against the government
like the People Power Revolution. The Filipinos here managed to non violently get what they were

Filipinos would have gotten hurt and died as a result. Even though civil disobedience is an act of

The Power Of Solar Power
Introduction
The South African power crisis needs little introduction as most of us spend our nights in the shadows
singing Hello Darkness My Old Friend and I ve Got the Power in the hope that at some point the
glorious rays of light will return. This energy crisis sees little end in sight and leaves the people of our
country with a need and responsibility to find alternative sources of energy solar power is one of these
solutions. Solar power is a brilliant idea as it harnesses the power of the sun and converts it into
electricity, however it is very costly and it is inefficient because only 11 15% of the energy harnessed
is converted into electricity. Solar panels are generally fixed at one position, usually at the angle that
one s roof slopes or at some other predetermined fixed position. According to research, by moving the
panel with the sun there will be a marked increase in the efficiency and power output of the solar
panel. It is also claimed that temperature will affect the amount of energy produced. Thus, this project
will aim to find out if there is a significant difference in efficiency as the sun moves around the solar
panel and attempt to obtain the best possible efficiency by moving the panel with the sun throughout
the day. By knowing this, it can be used by South African citizens to increase power, lower costs,
lower the strain on ESKOM s grid and improve their investment in solar panels.

embargo.procon.org) and acts of communist powers. It will only benefit the Government of Cuba and
not be beneficial to the citizens within the Island meaning that the money of financial gain only
supports the Government and overall not the biggest satisfaction of the society in the Cuban Island.
The political viewpoint of the perspective is that the United States having more than 75 countries they
do trade with around the world, Cuba that only has done trade with just about 7 countries such as
companies of Canada, Europe, and Latin America, those countries have not enjoyed economic

Jean Lockhart Theme Of Power
In her novel, E. Lockhart uses the abundance of situational suspense to reveal the theme of power. In
chapter 72, Candence, Mirren, Johnny, and Gat are planning to start the fire. The plan was simple. We
would find the spare jugs of gas, the ones kept in the shed for the motorboats. There were newspapers

  • 2. Hope In Elie Wiesel s Night This section of the book proved to be one of the most suspenseful and thrilling parts of Nyiszli s nightmare. I didn t expect him to survive, but at the same time, how would he write this book? I worried for the doctor because I knew the outlook of his future would be bleak. He would come home without his wife or child. Without any money, he would not be able to afford anything back at home. With his home probably destroyed from the war, he would not have anything to come back to. Survival was meaningless to him, but he still continued to push through the adversity. All in all, I enjoyed the ending. I was not expecting him to be so happy at the end. In fact, I thought he would spend the rest of his days and sadness, but with hope, miracles can happen. I am actually quite shocked the Dr. Nyiszli survived after the fall of Auschwitz. despite the cold weather, the unrelenting march, and the little food and sleep, he able to defy all odds and survive. Unfortunately, his friends would all perish after the madness of the crematoriums and the forced march. He would survive two concentration camps for months and keep pushing himself until his freedom. He could have easily given up. He did not have any family or friends. He had witnessed what no man should have witnessed, and he had no ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Even though they were found, it does not mean the months of suffering they faced would end. They still had memories of the horrors they witnessed in Auschwitz. The majority of the victims were starving and sick, and their life was already coming to an end. The ones who survived did not have much to look forward to after their time in the camp. It is a depressing thought that most fully recover physically and mentally from this. I understand why; there were way too many awful events that plagued a camp that sole purpose was to kill all the undesirable people. Most were not as lucky as Dr. Nyiszli, and that is a heavy thought to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Essay on The Cmapion Land Deal The Cmapion Land Deal The acquisition of the so called former Champion lands resulted from one of the most complicated land deals in Vermont history. The Champion Lands in Vermont were part of a larger deal involving almost 300,000 arces in New York, New Hampshire as well as Vermont. The specifics of how the property was transferred to the current owners are relevant because in some cases the provisions of the transfer mandate certain types of management or constrain management in other ways. On October 8, 1997, Champion International Inc. announced its intention to sell approximately 200,000 acres in the Northern Forest. Champion, and the St. Regis Paper Company before it, had owned these lands for decades, and during the last ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An important part of this model was to divide the Champion lands into separate but complementary ownerships on the basis of ecological values and basic management purposes: areas with the greatest ecological significance would be publicly owned and protected, with timber harvesting precluded on substantial acreages to allow natural processes like forest succession to occur unimpeded; and the most productive timber lands, with fewer special ecological values, would be kept in private ownership with a requirement that they be managed for long term sustainable forestry. Public access for a variety of historic uses and other activities would be guaranteed on the entirety of the property. When the possibility of acquiring the Champion lands had first arisen, the Vermont Agency of Natural Resources requested that TNC lead a process to identify the most ecologically significant portions of those lands. VANR, TNC, TCF and the other partners in the acquisition used the results of that analysis to determine which parts of the overall property should be publicly owned either by the State of Vermont or the federal government, and which should remain under private ownership as a working forest. Ultimately, the VANR acquired more than 22,000 acres of land south of Route 105 that now comprise the West Mountain WMA, and the USFWS acquired 26,000 acres encompassing much of the Nulhegan Basin north of Route 105 as part of the Silvio O. • 6. The, Fun Home, By Alison Bechdel Essay Intertextuality troubles the definition of autobiography in Alison Bechdel s Fun Home. Fun Home is a retelling of Alison Bechdel s life through the lens of her relationship with her father. However, because of what she considers to have been his suicide, Alison is left with an incomplete picture of who he was in life. By calling Fun Home an autobiography, Bechdel enters an autobiographical pact with the reader that ensures that what Bechdel is telling us is the truth. However, elements out of her control leave Bechdel unable to provide certain objective facts necessary to her narrative. As an attempt to remedy these absences and in turn maintain the validity of her story, Bechdel uses intertextuality to fill in the gaps of in her retelling. By overlaying masterplots of fictional narratives over her own, the reader is able to get at an understanding of the kind of person Alison s father was. In this way Bechdel is able to reveal things about her father that she can t prove to be true, but are reflective enough of his life to become true. Although only referred to as autobiography in paratext, Fun Home falls under the umbrella of narrative non fiction because it tells a true story. Abbott reinforces this in The Cambridge Introduction to Narrative, stating that ...narrative non fiction differs from narrative fiction in its referential function. We expect it to convey as best it can the truth of actual events. (146). This expectation means that when a narrative is presented ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Two of the most important environmental factors I think are relevant to the customers of the Samsung phone are price and social (Principles of Marketing, 2015). Price is a major factor for potential consumers. Many people will not purchase a Samsung phone if the price is out of their budget. There are various models at various pricing available, however, there are also other companies that offer a phone with just as many features, for a lower price (ex. HTC). Many potential consumers will not purchase a phone the same day their research begins. There is a lot of comparing and evaluation that takes place. The price is controlled by the marketer, however the reason buyers make their decision is not controlled by the marketer (Principles of Marketing, 2015). The social aspect is also an important factor. Many people use their cell phone as a primary source of communication. Their choice to purchase the Samsung phone could majorly rely on whether or not many of their friends have that make/model. There are also many additional features phones have if two or more people have the same phone (video chatting, similar apps that allow texting to be quicker and more efficient). If communicating with friends/family is a priority, this could mean a make or break for purchasing the Samsung phone. 2. Three of the most ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The subalterns are and have been alienated, isolated, marginalized, and outed from the hegemonic forces. They are distinguished as that of a lower class, inferior, and they do not have a voice in the world because they are outside of the hegemonic class; they are not able to tell their side of history. To be colonized is to be removed from history, except in the most passive sense. In the world today, the reason why that we rarely hear from the subalterns is because their voice is viewed as inferior, they have assimilated into the colonial power s culture, and loss of personal identity. However, from becoming aware about African intellectuals, such as Frantz Fanon, and historical references to the conscious development of racial constructs will allow people to view the static images of subalterns in films in a different light; a light of awareness and outrage. It helps to give the subaltern a chance to tell his or her side of history and it results in talk about race in the world. The beautiful iridescent blue Morpho butterfly has survived in the deep tropical forest due to its underside resembling the big eyes of a predator. Blue Morphos appear to have a supernatural ability to portray themselves as something they are not. Their indistinguishable differences trick the senses of the enemy. Close examination of their large brown scary predator eyes show they are ordinary simple butterflies. There is also a similar misunderstanding in the short story by Ambrose Bierce. After considering both the slice of the life of Realism and the supernatural of Romanticism movement, the short story The Boarded Window by Ambrose Bierce is an example of Realism because it shows a life of a uneducated ordinary man. • 19. The Effect Of Light And Total Respiration Of The Plant... Intro: For all living organisms including plants, respiration is the process of converting chemical energy into a usable form of energy (Biol 171L Lab 7). Even if an organism does not have an energy source, they will keep respiring. For autotrophic plants, the process of obtaining energy is called photosynthesis. It harvests solar energy, carbon dioxide, and water to form a usable form of energy (Tanaka 2009). The factors that go into this process includes the pigment the plant possesses, and the intensity, wavelength, and direction of the light. Plants that contain the pigment chlorophyll a are the ones we see as the leaves of common trees, or grass. Because chlorophyll a takes in violet blue, and orange red lights to use in photosynthesis, it reflects green, and that is the color we see. This study investigates the relationship between the wavelength of light and the total respiration of the plant Elodea. The purpose is to see the effect of the presence or absence of certain wavelengths can have on the process of photosynthesis. Because Elodea is a plant that reflects green light, it can be assumed that red lights, the complimentary color to green will be absorbed the most contributing to the process of photosynthesis and respiration making the most oxygen. Methods: In this lab, varying wavelengths were used to test how light affects photosynthesis and respiration as a whole. Many theories of management have military backgrounds that date back to the beginning of history to Alexander the Great, Julius Caesar, and Napoleon. All of these leaders became successful through their efficiency to lead, line of command, unity, and division of work. The United States Military is divided into five branches of service. The Army is the the oldest branch of the military, and focuses on defending the country and is the main fighting force of the military. The Air Force works with the Army and is in charge of all of the satellites and nuclear missiles. Marine Corps are the first ones to battle, and are responsible for delivering tasks on ground, sea, and in the air. The Coast Guard is responsible for boating safety and rescue, law enforcement, and controlling illegal immigration (Hewes 2005). These are the building blocks behind the reason why our military is so successful and powerful. One of them was that dream should be seen as a message coming from outside individual, mostly from God like creatures. And another theory is that dream should be seen as a prophecy, being able to tell us what awaits for us in the future. These theories are prescientific so today we don t view dreams this way. Freud then came along and proposed that dreams reflect a conflict between the unconscious desires and the conscious mind. So, dreams are mostly an expression of unconscious wishes as well as being sleep preserving (Olsen, 2016, p. 159). Despite all these theories of what dreams are, what is the actual reason we have dreams, why do we remember some and forget some, and what are lucid dreams? What Causes Dreaming In the 1970s, a man named John Hobson developed a theory called the activation synthesis theory. It explain that dreams are fabricated by the cortex as a means of interpreting chaotic signals from the pond. In other words dreams have no meaning and they are merely a result of a random chemical messaging in the brain coming from the brainstem. (Olsen, 2016, p. 159). However, a man named Mark Solms later disprove the activation synthesis theory showing that even in patients who have damaged their brain stems, they still have dreams. So it ruled out Hobson s hypothesis that dreams originate from the brain stem. Rapid eye ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 24. The Effects Of History And Social Structures On Our Lives... Experiences play a vital role on who we are as a person, more importantly the memories that we ve had as children stick with us for the rest of our lives. They help structure and model us into a person that will eventually do extraordinary things that will affect others around us. In first world countries most experiences as a child are generally the same for everyone because they live in a safe shielded environment that protects them anything bad that could happen but, children growing up in third world countries face horrible experiences that can cost them their lives but they believe is the norm. Through my primary research I have discovered that history and social structures have had a great impact on my personal life than ever imagined having to growing up in a third world country. After developing my secondary research, the information I collected is proof of events that have ultimately lead to factors of my development from an infant to who I am as a person today. Throughout my life there were different historical events occurring at the time in my home country and my future country that unfolded to shape and model my life to make me the person that I am today. I am able to identify specific events that separately correspond to the process of coming to Canada before while residing in my home country, during the immigration process to come here, and after arriving in Canada. Willy s Loneliness and Alienation in Death of a Salesman Willy Loman s feelings of alienation and loneliness are direct psychological results of his interaction with society and the conditions that are found within it. Although, he does not necessarily have the ability or allow himself to have the ability to define his feelings as such, they are still very much a part of his everyday existence. This is evident in his constant bragging and attempted compensation. He does not feel that he is truly a part of society. Indeed, he is not. In past, present, and fantasy, Willy expresses himself through clichés and repetitions in a formulaic chant. However, he achieves neither popularity nor success as a salesman, and he fails as a gardener, mechanic, husband, father. (Martin 67) He cannot even achieve small goals. He has no real feeling of self worth, and this lack of self confidence is reinforced by society and Biff s discovery of Willy s infidelity. In speaking about his plays, Miller explained, It is necessary, if one is to reflect reality, not only to depict why a man does what he does, or why he nearly didn t do it, but why he cannot simply walk away and say to hell with it (Eight ix). In the case of Death of a Salesman, it is Willy s desperate hope of success that keeps him from committing suicide for so long. Eventually, however, he gives in to his feelings of depression and ends his life. It is the only viable solution he sees at this point. In another writing, Miller said, My impulse is ... These actions can be detrimental to the social relationships of those involved, leaving an enduring impact on one s ability to socialize and interact with those around them. Due to the severity of the potential harm bullying can cause, much research has been conducted on how bullying can influence the lives and actions of those associated with it. In order to address the issue of bullying, one must first understand not only the impact it may have, but the factors that influence how those involved are affected. These factors include the role one plays in the bullying, the method through which the bullying occurs, and the gender of the victim. What was it that had brought me here? For all my life I had lived in California, in the center of urban life, and now I was living on the east coast, near no major city and inside miles of woods. It was my parents ambition that brought us to Pennsylvania. They hoped moving would give us a better life, one where my father would not be away from the family weeks at a time, traveling around the world for business. Despite our hopes, my father s work once again became very stressful and my mother faced racism and prejudice. Workers refused to return her calls because of her accent, while they would promptly respond when my father, with his American accent called. A cafe in town treated customers unequally based upon their origin and wealth. And the first question a new person asked us was where we lived; either we qualified to be friends with them or not. However, my family s history assured us that we could find happiness in our new home. As a child, my grandparents sent my mother from Iran to America to give her a better life. Her relatives were also sent away, causing me to have family all over the globe. I have visited family in Rome, France, Singapore, and all across the US. Holistic nursing does not replace medicinal practice; rather, it incorporates the whole patient into the nursing care plan with the outcome being that of a healthier patient. In an article, written by Mark Duggan of the MIT Press, states that THOUSANDS of gun shows take place in the United States each year. Gun control advocates argue that the gun show loophole makes it easier for potential criminals to obtain a gun; the loophole basically allows unlicensed vendors at gun shows to sell firearms without conducting background checks on purchasers. This energy crisis sees little end in sight and leaves the people of our country with a need and responsibility to find alternative sources of energy solar power is one of these solutions. Solar power is a brilliant idea as it harnesses the power of the sun and converts it into electricity, however it is very costly and it is inefficient because only 11 15% of the energy harnessed is converted into electricity. Solar panels are generally fixed at one position, usually at the angle that one s roof slopes or at some other predetermined fixed position. According to research, by moving the panel with the sun there will be a marked increase in the efficiency and power output of the solar panel. It is also claimed that temperature will affect the amount of energy produced. Thus, this project will aim to find out if there is a significant difference in efficiency as the sun moves around the solar panel and attempt to obtain the best possible efficiency by moving the panel with the sun throughout the day. The Embargo Act Of Cuba Essay G Jasmaree Rodriguez Ms. Wade Economics December 5, 2016 Cuba Position I think that the Embargo act of Cuba should not be uplifted simply because they do not meet the requirements of business in the trade industry. The embargo also known as the blockade signed by President Kennedy Feb. 3, 1962, consist of economic sanctions against Cuba and restrictions on Cuba travel and commerce for all people and business under the U.S jurisdiction (Cuba embargo.procon.org) and acts of communist powers.
