To create sustainable solutions… …and digital society
…in an increasingly urban…
“There has been no better time to use our collective
knowledge and work together to build a better future.”
Åsa Bergman, President & CEO Sweco
Editor's Notes
Development is truly sustainable went the three pillars of sustainability equally addressed.
A Quick look at who we are and what we do. Sweco Stands for Swedish Consultancy.
I will be focusing today on various Sweco projects all over Europe where we have assisted our clients in adopting innovative technical solutions and processes for improving people’s health and wellbeing.
We will start by looking at greening of outdoor spaces and the impact
We will then move indoors – Focusing on industry best practices with regards to Air, Light, Noise and Mind.
A brief look at various frameworks and health and wellbeing certifications.
Urban Insights – A Sweco initiative to knowledge share and collaborate.
The gross has an impact on the subtle like the slow movements of Tai chi and Yoga automatically calm and still the mind and the body, our environments have a profound impact the health and well being of the current and future generations.
Research indicates – A person who undertakes any work near a view window sleeps 46mins more than a person who doesn’t. It has a profound impact on the body’s natural rhythm
Nature has a meditative and calming quality. Greening outside makes the space very welcoming, secure, encourage people to walk undertake activities outside, local communities can benefit from them too !
Planting based on increasing absorption of C02 and biodiversity surely benefits people and planet.
Greening outdoors automatically improves the air quality surrounding the project, which directly impacts the indoor air quality.
Childhood obesity in Europe is on the rise.
Projects that do not have a lot of scope to green the outdoors have started to opt for greening on the terraces, patios and roofs.
One Waterloo a proposed developed adjacent to the iconic waterloo station has opted for a promenade connecting the waterloo station directly to the building.
Another proposed development 105 Victoria Street, they have opted for urban greening on 4 levels which also includes an urban farm where occupants will be able to grow their own produce.
With regards to ventilation systems: Post covid we have seen an increased interest in projects asking for higher ventilation rates via traditional ventilation systems and displacement type ventilation systems. Natural ventilation is also gaining popularity with projects that are in low pollution areas.
Stair location: Before the lifts and escalators.
Stair Design: Pleasing, well lit, safe and fun !
The most northern location globally for an (PHI) extremely efficient building in a very demanding climate."
