It was an idea of living legend ELON MUSK back in 2013. Now its more than idea. You read it right! .For more information refer Musk's "Hyperloop Alpha" white paper. It includes the complete blue print.
4. What is Hyperloop?
Fastest mode of transportation
This is an American made transport technology
Fifth mode of Transportation after rail, road, water, and air. These 4 modes of transport tend to
be either relatively slow (e.g., road and water), expensive (e.g., air), or a combination of
relatively slow and expensive (i.e., rail).
Basically it consists of a low pressure tube with capsules(pod) that are transported at both low
and high speeds throughout the length of the tube.
CAPSULE(Pod)
5. WhY Hyperloop?
Faster(760 miles per hour)
Lower cost(economical)
Environment friendly
Immune to weather
Safer
Sustainably self-powering.
Resistant to Earthquakes.
6. Main parts of hyperloop transportation
1. LOW PRESSURE TUBE
• The tube is made of steel.
• The pressure in the tube is 100pa
(equivalent to flying above 150,000
feet altitude).
• Pylons are placed every 30m to
support the tube.
• Solar arrays on top of tube.
2. CAPSULE ( POD )
The capsules are supported via
thrust air bearing that operate using
a compressed air reservoir and
aerodynamic lift.
Sealed capsules can carrying
minimum 28 passengers.
7. 3. AXIAL COMPRESSOR
• Air is compressed with a pressure ratio of
20:1.
• Some air is stored for passenger and air
bearing.
• An onboard water tank is used for cooling of
the air.
4. SUSPENSION
• Thrust air bearings offer stability and
extremely low drag
• Compressor pressurized air and
aerodynamic lift provide better lift to
capsule. (0.5 to 1.3 mm)
• Independent mechanical suspension
are provide for smooth ride for
passengers.
8. 5. PROPULSION
• Accelerate the capsule from 0 to 300 mph
• Maintain the capsule at 300 mph
• To accelerate the capsule from 300 to 760 mph
• To decelerate the capsule back to 300 mph
Basic requirements are
Rotor (mounted to capsule)
Stator (mounted to tube)
Linear Induction Motor are used to accelerate and
decelerate the capsule.
Magnetic field strength inside linear induction motor
Copper coils
Rotor aluminum
(mounted to capsule)
Stator iron(mounted to tube)
Air gap
9. 6. ENERGY STORAGE
The Hyperloop as a whole is projected to consume an
average of 21 MW.
A solar array covering the entire Hyperloop is large
enough to provide an annual average of 76,000 hp (57
MW), significantly more than the Hyperloop requires.
Battery array at each accelerator, allowing the solar
array to provide only the average power needed to run the
system.
10. HOW Hyperloop WORKS?
(The science behind hyperloop)
Key features
• Stator inside the
tube.
• Rotor inside the
Capsule.
• Low pressure tube.
• Compressor fan.
• Air bearings
• Levitation
• Reduces friction
• Steel tube
• Safety
• Reliability
11. COST
From San Francisco to Los Angeles , the investment will cost around 6 billion USD which is
much cheaper than a high speed rail network costing 70 billion USD.
• Tube pressurization.
• Turning will be critical (with large radius).
• Insufficient movable space for passenger.
THEN WHAT ARE THE PROBLEMS!
13. CONCLUSION
REFERENCE
As it has number of advantages it will be very helpful for transport public as well as
goods in a very short period of time (at a top speed of 1220 kmph) and also in
lower cost.
It is a new concept so there is some future work will be required for development
of this project.
